What $ sign means in this article?[edit]

In the sentence "Egede established the Bergen Greenland Company[5] (Det Bergen Grønlandske Compagnie) with $9,000 in capital from Bergen merchants, $200 from the Danish king, and a $300 annual grant from the Royal Mission College.[6]" it isn't clear what $ stands for. Giving the amounts it couldn't stand for modern US dollar and giving that this was early in 18th century, clearly it couldn't stand for US dollar of the time of the event.

I read it as "dollar", i. e., thaler, which would be logical.2001:A61:3AEA:A401:2896:17A0:19E7:94D2 (talk) 10:08, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
