Revisions for each major release

I'd like to see some information what revisions / updates exist for each of the iMovie versions.

  • My iLife '06 came with iMovie HD 6.0.3. I _think_ this is the latest revision, but I'm not sure. Should I look for an update?
  • My iLife '09 came with iMovie 8.0.4, the latest release atow is 8.0.6. What new features were introduced? What bugs were fixed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.40.132.74 (talk) 12:01, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Removal of "unprecedented" line

I removed the sentence "A PC publication reviewing software for the Macintosh was unprecedented." If true (which is highly doubtful), this statement needs some sort of reference. It implies that there is a perfect separation between Mac and "PC" magazines, which is not the case now, and was certainly not the case before the 90's (e.g. Byte). I left for someone else to decide whether the preceding sentence belongs (about the praise for iMovie being "so widespread"). It's almost as hyperbolic and seems to lack NPOV.emw 15:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

NPOV

  • Isn't this just an ad for Apple? There's certainly no NPOV here.
    • I wouldn't say that. Perhaps a section should be added on its shortcomings, but it seems pretty good overall to me Alex 06:10, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
      • IT's not a software review, so pro's and con's aren't appropriate. The article should merely describe the software from NPOV.emw 15:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Uncited Paragraph

I have removed this paragraph from the article, orginally added here.

iMovie 1.0 marked an important change in Apple software that remains in effect to this day. iMovie 1.0 included credits of its creators, as did most of Apple's software up to that time, but head hunters calling into Apple requesting to speak with these employees sparked Steve Jobs to eliminate all credits from Apple software products; a practice he carried over from his days at Atari.
This is uncited, and a (quick) search of Google didn't turn up any info on this -- the Mac rumor mill being what it is, I'd expect this to be easy to find if true. Also, the idea that Steve Jobs worked at Atari at any point is doubtful. I'm going to leave this here, though, to be restored to the article if someone can cite it. -- jhf 09:24, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

The "Special File" sentance

This sentance:

  • For example, the special file from Kodak V705 does not work.

Extracting Audio

I've just removed the statement that iMovie '08 doesn't allow you to extract audio from a clip. (from the sentence "Features lost include: the ability to manually adjust audio levels during a scene, the ability to extract audio from a clip.") While they've removed the menu command for extracting audio in iMovie 08, thus making the feature more difficult to find, you *can* extract audio, just by Command-Shift-dragging the clip from the clips window to the project, as described here: http://imovie08.blogspot.com/2007/08/how-to-extract-audio-from-clip.html. Might still be worth mentioning that it's been made more difficult, and that users are struggling to find the features, as is also indicated in the same article, though? gothick (talk) 12:27, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

iMovie '10

The page says that iMovie '10 (and iLife '10) will be released in March 2010. Is that information accurate? I disagree. On the contrary: this Wikipedia page is far, far more impartial than the obvious other source of info on the product, the Apple store. As an example of the impartiality in this article simply not on the store site, consider the several sentences on criticisms of the product, especially the 08 version.

That said, I will agree that this kind of 'impartiality' still falls short of true impartiality. But that is not because of any alleged commonality with advertising/marketing material: rather, it is because too many Wikipedia authors share the average journalist's fallacious notion of what impartiality really is. True impartiality is NOT achieved by simply listing/quoting opposing points of view. It is achieved instead by BEING truly impartial, without an attachment, emotional or pecuniary, to either side, being interested ONLY in the truth. 69.170.63.138 (talk) 00:57, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Um...

At the bottom of the 'list of iMovies and their releases', it said iMovie and it said 'Release Date: December 2011' I don't believe 2011 just ended I believe it just started. Did he/she mean December, 2010? --Gar-Art Studios (talk) 22:35, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Contested deletion

This page should not be speedy deleted because:

I came here by chance looking for general information on apple's move editing software, which i got and am satisfied with (i will be upgrading my own out of date video editing software). The idea that this article is little more than an advertisement is preposterous, but in the spirit of the above proposal, why not delete all articles around the Nintendo Wii games console? or Facebook? or Samsung's Galaxy Tab slate computer?

The fact is you cannot provide information about any service or product without running into uninformed accusations of advertising. ...why? well because True advertising is always unprompted and initially unwanted. I CAME TO THIS PAGE OF MY OWN WILL, LOOKING FOR INFORMATION. These simple plain facts destroy any advertising argument, and causes me to wonder how many other informative pages have been deleted by random people on the net, who may or may not have personal agendas surrounding successful businesses such as Apple.

In the interest of freedom of information, such a complete deletion of an article is little more than OUTRIGHT CENSORSHIP i think. If there is valid issue with the article, for what ever reason, wiki's editors should agree upon an appropriate rewrite.

Put simply:

INFORMATION SHOULD NEVER EVER BE ERASED (unless proven to be false)

Proprietary?

Out of curiosity, why does it say that iMovie is a "proprietary video editing software application"? Isn't commercial software usually proprietary? In the articles for Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, it says nothing about them being proprietary, so that term seems somewhat superfluous to me. --Ruebezahl (talk) 07:29, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

iMovie HD 6

I've tagged 3 sentences at the end of the iMovie HD 6 section for possibly containing original research. The portion in question is "iMovie HD 6 is still the preferred version for working with the DV over Firewire codec. Newer versions of iMovie lose resolution in rendering this older codec. It also makes the best looking Standard Definition DVD's." The issues with this are:

  1. "...is still the preferred version. By who?
  2. "Newer versions of iMovie lose resolution in rendering this older codec". Technical data like that should have a source.
  3. "It also makes the best looking Standard Definition DVD's". This sounds distinctly non-objective. How is "best-looking" determined? Is this compared to other versions of iMovie, or to all other video editors ever made? Is this in general, or only in regards to DVDs derived from DV sources?

Semi-protected edit request on 3 January 2014

iMovie has been updated to Version 10.0.1 and is not called iMovie 11 anymore. The changes from the earlier version 9.0.9 are quite significant and should be pointed out. For example, the file structure in the Projects section is gone. The clips in the Library are not sorted by year anymore. Tidbits

Hmmm, I don't know if the following would improve this wikipedia entry or not, but it is or may be an interesting historical tidbit. Somebody may be able to confirm and augment this page with information that a very early release of iMovie has a sample clip of a person walking around the outside of a house, and that as the camera and microphone get around to a side window the sounds of people having sex inside can be heard. I don't know if it was on the original DVD or an update. I noticed it on my 1999 iMac. If... rljhaines (talk) 23:15, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
