A crazy idea[edit]

There are many thousands of restaurants in London, changing all the time. What possible purpose can this list serve? I am going to propose it for deletion. Martin Hogbin (talk) 17:29, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we know list cannot be completed ever. But as we said earlier, such lists need not to be complete. The article is quite fine about listed restaurants in London. The promotion is only in the case when it is clear blatant and falls under WP:PROMOTION. But unfortunately, article doesn't fall under this policy in its current form. Please note that my heading, 'a crazy idea' refers only to the concept of a List of restaurants in London. The AfD has been closed as 'keep' so that is what what must do, but the idea of trying to have a list of restaurants in London that in any way that serves an encyclopedic purpose without becoming a commercial battleground or the start of a battle between major world capitals is, in my opinion, 'crazy'. Let us please leave it at that. Some may not like my opinion but I see no reason that it should not be expressed here. In years to come maybe I will be proved correct. A functional list article[edit]

The list was derived from Category:Restaurants in London, and qualifies for an article per WP:NOTDUP. It also qualifies for an article per WP:LISTPURP. NorthAmerica1000 03:34, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notability statement at the top of the article.[edit]

Although I entirely agree that the list must be limited to a well-defined subset of restaurants, putting instructions to this effect at the top of the article is not acceptable; the instructions should be at the top of the talk page. Unfortunately, that means that many editors will ignore them and the list will require continual monitoring to maintain the criteria for inclusion.

The requirement to have a WP article is a simple and easily verified one and is used in List of vegans for example but it will undoubtedly cause increased pressure for those in the business to create a WP article on their preferred establishment. Notability for a restaurant is somewhat arbitrary and dependent on your point of view and eating habits so I expect to see continuing disagreement about what goes in and what does not. Good luck! I've removed the sentence. NorthAmerica1000 11:20, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As expected[edit]

This list is a farce. Some of the entries are not restaurants at all. Some are chains and not a single restaurant. One is a chain of bakers. One has no WP listing. One entry refers to a non-existent restaurant. That is after a very quick look through. Anyone with any commercial sense is going to want their establishment listed here, by fair means or foul. It's just fine[edit]

If a notable restaurant is located in London, being a chain is not a reason to omit it. Grodzinski Bakery is categorized within the Grodzinski Bakery article under Category:Restaurants in London. The unlinked Brasserie Vacherin entry is reliably sourced. Defunct restaurants (out of business) can be included as long as they're notable. Thus far, your prediction of restaurateurs vying to be listed here has not come into fruition. There's still no problem here. NorthAmerica1000 12:44, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So what exactly are the criteria for inclusion? Is it just that there must be a reliable source saying that it is a restaurant in London? Martin Hogbin (talk)

Notability[edit]

There is an old discussion here, but can I check the inclusion criteria please? How is notability determined? Is it only (and all) London restaurants that have a Wikipedia page? Or something else? Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 21:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
