Icelanders??[edit]

Why are Icelandic Canadians included in this article? There is already an Icelandic Canadian article and the peoples and their history are very distinct; "Norwegian Canadians are people of Norwegian and Icelandic descent" is clearly erroneous, I'll clean all that out later....but who put that in??.Skookum1 (talk) 15:26, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed all reference to Icelanders and Icelandic communities; those communities which are Icelandic are now on the Icelandic Canadian article....some in the people list may still not belong here.Skookum1 (talk) 15:47, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Norway House[edit]

I comment out Norway House as, to my knowledge, it's not a Norwegian Canadian settlement and Norwegians do not "predominate" there (it's largely a Cree community...). The name derives from Norwegian labourers, possibly ex-convicts, who built it for the HBC in 1814 (or 1817, depending on the source). Norsk-Canadiere eller "Kanadisk nordmennene" - ??[edit]

I'm not a native speaker of Norwegian, but I'm pretty sure the Sons of Norway uses "nordmennene" in reference to its members; respectively Kanadisk nordmennene and Amerikansk(j)e nordmennene for Canada and the US. Norsk-Canadiere is a direct translation of "Norwegian Canadian" but I'm not certain that's the phrase that would be used in Norwegian, particularly in the dialect of Norwegian that evolved in North America....(an article about which would be nice to have; the cites are out there somewhere).Skookum1 (talk) 20:10, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BC[edit]

Not that anyone's replied to me about other matters here but the "Organized immigration" section is lacking content about unorganized immigration and as with the Norwegians#Canada section there nothing at all is said about early Norwegians in BC and how they got there etc....I don't have time to expand this, or the other section, but just noting that as per usual Canadian history/demographics articles need to be revised because of BC's different history; the presence of Norwegian fishermen and whalers in Labrador and Newfoundland is also an immigration story there; likewise the resettlement of many Norwegians from Halifax after that city's role as a wartime home for hte Royal Norwegian Navy.Skookum1 (talk) 05:16, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Doubt about Melyssa Ford[edit]

I saw that Melissa is one of the examples of norwegian canadians. Please, it´s not racism and any discrimation, but i have a doubt about her. ¿Do you count these people by the surname or having some norwegian ancestry? So, I recommend you that don't put Melissa like a norwegian, because the norwegians are white and it may create many doubts in many readers. People of Norwegian ancestry in Canada are often of multiracial origin, particularly native but also Chinese and black. Early Norwegians did not have the same biases as other colonists, for one thing. And in modern Norway, many native-born Norwegian citizens are Arab or Persian or other non-white peoples, and/or of mixed ancestry.Skookum1 (talk) 08:37, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In her Wikipedia profile, it says Melyssa Ford is of African Barbadian descent on her father's side, and of Ukrainian and Scottish descent on her mother's side. However, I did find a IMDb trivia page that claims she is of Norwegian and Russian descent on her mother's side.
