The public are upset about a tax increase, I don't see why it should be categorized as a scandal. Edward (talk) 05:36, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's not really all that important whether or not it is called a scandal. But it has been called the 'Pasty(gate) scandal' by the references (ie. the press). And ours is not to reason why... but to go with what the references tell us. I have added some details about the actual taxation proposal, which is surely more central to the story than the 'out of touch' claims. It could also benefit from some quotes from Greggs etc who have campaigned about the tax, not just the Sun and some facebook group. I also think the title should be Pasty tax with a redirect from Pastygate. I still need to add the recent government climbdown/U-turn on the taxation of hot pasties etc. Sussexonian (talk) 22:56, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this notable enough to be on Wikipedia? I question it. This is one proposed tax increase out of the thousands that happen around the world every year. The references used are just news articles about it. If we had a wikipedia article for every news story about a tax increase that was poorly received in the press, most of Wikipedia would be articles about tax increases. 95.145.41.153 10:16, 19 November 2014‎
