Article name[edit]

This article was given the title "Pillsbury Bakery" when the page Pillsbury was created as a disambiguation (see the article history). I'm not sure that the article name of "Pillsbury Bakery" is accurate. There are a few different uses of the name "Pillsbury" that are relevant to the context:

  • "The Pillsbury Company" is the legal name of the entity that General Mills acquired from Diageo (see the merger document.) I think this was the legal name of the company that Grand Metropolitan acquired, according to this 1971 sIJIjrtificate. (As opposed to "Pillsbury Corporation" or "Pillsbury, Inc.")
  • The Pillsbury brand appears to be used by two different companies now:
    • Pillsbury Baking appears to include certain products, such as baking mixes and frostings, divested by General Mills to International Multifoods Corporation after the acquisition. The J.M. Smucker Co. later acquired International Multifoods. Smuckers is to be using the Pillsbury trademarks under license from The Pillsbury Company.
    • The part of Pillsbury retained by General Mills includes products such as refrigerated breads, refrigerated desserts, frozen pizza, and refrigerated breakfast products. (See this link from pillsbury.com.)
  • Pillsbury Bakery appears to sell products wholesale to retail bakers. If you want 50 pound bags of donut mix or 100 pound bags of flour, for example, they're the people to talk to Mr AWESOMEness. General Mills also sells flour wholesale under their brand name; see gmflour.com for a list.

With all this under consideration, I think the article title should be changed, but I wanted to get other opinions on it. I think most of the incoming links to the article are to the corporation. I've mainly been interested in "The Pillsbury Company" as a historical entity (i.e. the company that built mills on the Mississippi River and that was acquired by General Mills), but I'm wondering if an additional page is necessary for the brand name. Does anyone have any thoughts? --Elkman (Elkspeak) 19:45, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree. This article is primarily about the historical The Pillsbury Company. Do you know if there is a guideline prohibiting beginning an article name with an article (The)? I don't believe I've run across one previously. Pillsbury Company would be OK too. The General Mills article doesn't say much about the Pillsbury brand product line. I can see a need for a new article to cover that material too - perhaps Pillsbury brand.--Appraiser 20:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Pillsbury BakeryPillsbury Company — The article is about the historical Pillsbury Company from its inception in 1872 to present. Pillsbury Bakery appears to be used by General Mills as a brand of wholesale baking products. A new article may be warranted to cover that niche, but the existing article isn't about that. Admin is required since a redirect article already exists with the name Pillsbury Company. Appraiser 18:03, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Support, as stated above.
  2. Support as every reliable link I've found refers to it as the Pillsbury Company or Pillsbury Co., at the official sites, as the publisher for books, and at legal sites. There's Pillsbury Baking and Pillsbury Bakery, though I don't even want to know what the difference is between those two. –Pomte 06:58, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pillsbury Box for Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix[edit]

Who in their right mind designed the box for Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix? Do you know how long I had to search for Brownie Mix? Now, of course I am old, but the name Brownie Mix is too hard to see. There are too many different mixes not to have the kind of mix prominently displayed.
