Peacock as the third single

It's written in the article that Firework is the third single off Teenage Dream. There's a cover that leaked at the internet from the Peacock single. (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mupIVJbjvuU/TGX58StLmLI/AAAAAAAAF-0/l8Lri-8f33Y/s1600/Katy%20Perry%20-%20Peacock%20(FanMade%20Single%20Cover)%20Made%20by%20EriK.png) So I suppose that it will be released instead of Firework.

Evaluation request

It looks like the article has progressed nicely while in incubation. Circumstances have also progressed for it, so we now have reliable sources showing a release date. nth studio album

I see an edit was made today changing it from the third to the second studio album, though it was quickly changed back. It seems fitting to mention a parallel situation here:

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is the fourth album and second internationally released album by singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette…

In Morissette's case, her first two albums were released in Canada only, so it's easy to make a distinction on country of release; however, she's listed as just Alanis on the first two albums.

In Perry's case, the clear distinguishing factor is real v. stage name. If this issue comes up again, is it worth changing the lede to say "third studio album (and second released under her stage name)" or some other similar wording? —C.Fred (talk) 04:22, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

This sounds a bit flowery to me. Why don't you just make things clearer and say that "It is Perry's third studio album and follow up to her breakthrough mainstream album One of the Boys". Katy has spoken about this being her second studio album (the Rolling Stone article), and her first wasn't widely released, wasn't available for long and she wasn't signed to the label for long. Cover with or without text

Currently a small debate about the cover is on-going. Althought Katy Perry did specifically say that she wanted to release the album with the cover but NO text. However EMI music have confirmed both covers with and without text for release... here and here. I suggest that the most sensible thing to do would be to remove the cover until the album is actually released the cover can be replaced once the album is released. Fair play. I've just seen that the cover without text is the one being used on US/UK iTunes for its preorder. So I suspect the one with text would be used internationally. I would have said that the cover with no text was the 'official' cover, as it is the one being used for the iTunes pre-order and US/UK releases, and was revealed first, as the official cover, and is also the cover that Perry herself supports. Promotional Singles

Hey Guys,

Just a thought. As "Not Like The Movies" was released as a promotional single, and charted on 3 major charts (Hot 100, Digital Songs and Canadian Hot 100, and possibly more), It's eligible to have it's own page. If we can find information similar to what was used in the "Ur So Gay" article (and possibly more), it should have it's own article. • I just noticed that the line "I wish you could all be california gurls," was removed from the song. Should it be noted because of the supposed lawsuit? Cover, text vs. no text

Ok lets get this sorted once and for all because there's already been disagreements over it. Album covers are non-free media i.e. they are not available freely to the public. Per non-free content criteria multiple covers cannot be used for the following reasons:

• 3a. Minimal Use, Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information.
• 8. Contextual Significane, Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.

Under these rules both the cover with text, and the cover without text CANNOT both be used in this article. Now from my understanding both versions were released:

• ASDA → Cover with text (standard phsycial), Cover with text (deluxe physical)
• Tesco → Cover without text (standard digital), Cover without text (deluxe digital)
• HMV Cover without text (standard and deluxe physical)

Therefore its evidence that neither cover is really more preferred than the other though you could argue that perhaps the cover without text is used more. However in the interest of explaining the situation properly the cover with text should be used in the article because it is easier to explain that in some regions a version of the album is available where the cover features no text. • Under criterion 8, the version with the text should be included in the article, because omission of it would be detrimental. The cover without text is not an alternate version though. In fact, the only times I have seen the album with text on it is for international releases, and those are very limited themselves. The fact that the UK's (top five biggest music markets in the world) second biggest supermarket is selling the album with the text cover and that much of Europe is speaks volumes. How do you then justify any explaination of what the cover 'with text' looks like? • The covers are identical but for the text. If the non-text one has more physical releases than the text one, I still fail to see a reason to include the non-text one. It's not like somebody is going to get confused that this isn't the same album as the non-text one. Come on. People are a *little* more intelligent than that, on average. • WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#1 apply here, so only one cover is required. It can easily be stated that the other one does have/doesn't have the text if that's really necessary. (Since that statement is in prose, which is free, NFCC#1 applies). But only one cover is clearly indicated. Composition

One of the biggest influences of Teenage Dream and the career of Katy Perry were the band Queen and singer Alanis Morissette. Since the beginning of the recordings "Perry said that its compositions are more mature and honest about the songs of One of the Boys. In an interview with Associated Press, the singer commented that she reserved the details of the album for her and not for interviews, as used to do, saying that her perspectives have changed. She also noted that the musical genre on her second album would be like a fusion of "Lovefool" from The Cardigans with "The Sign of Ace of Base," to make people feel willing to join hands to skate." "When I left on tour, I felt I was missing songs to make people go up and down. I love the feeling when everybody is jumping together," she told HitFiz.com about to the new style that she would produce. The group ABBA and the Madonna's song, Into the Groove ", were also influences on the new album. Perry also commented on the musical style of her album in an interview to Nylon Magazine, stating that music would not be "so annoying" about the past, saying that would be the new Alanis Morissette at Market Music in 2010. During the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2010, Perry had revealed that she had been strongly influenced by the music of the 1990s and Cyndi Lauper, calling their work "guilty pleasure". According to the singer, her new songs "explore their faith, confidence and admiration of the supernatural world" and that "while entertaining, they have content and were not made just for parties."

Album cover art

Does there really need to be that much information is in the infobox? Shouldn't the information be somewhere else and shorted in the infobox? Jayy008 (talk) 21:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

If the cover image hadn't been such a contentious issue, it probably could be pushed down. Because it's been such a source of controversy, it needs to be mentioned up high. I suppose it could go into a comment in the infobox, though, so it would be noticed by anybody attempting to change the image. —C.Fred (talk) 21:34, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

And actually the deluxe edition CD can be bought from ASDA in the UK with text on the cover so its incorrect anyway. However the captions do need to remain. Text on Cover

On the main page underneath the album artwork, it says that the covers with the "Teenage Dream" lettering are not sold in the North America. However, this is not true. I am from Illinois and I went to Target (a department store) the other day and the albums with the lettering were available in full stock. Basically, the versions sold inside the jewel case had the lettering while the ones sold in the paper case with the cotton candy scent were sold without the lettering. I think this description underneath the album artwork should be removed or altered to say something along the lines of "some parts of North America". Jpagan09 (talk) 23:49, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I just noticed this the other day at Target myself. And the caption was correct. The album didn't feature lettering at first. However, we need to find out a way to properly cite and explain this conundrum. --Shadow (talk) 16:45, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Luckily I was in the shops earlier after I came across this issue. I believe the case (mind the pun) is as follows:

• Digitally: the cover with no text was released. (see Amazon MP3 and US 7 Digital.
• Instores:
  • there are 3-panel softpack versions of the album - complete with candy scent (cover with no text) (see HMV UK)
  • or CD jewel case (standard plastic Cd case, cover with text) - (see Target or Walmart)

I figured as such. I just think the article should accurately say that discs in soft panel cases, from Barnes and Noble, and digital copies do not contain the text where jewel cases do.
