Translate parts of the Russian version of this article to the English article[edit]

I noticed that the Russian article for Terraria is referred to as a "Good Article" over their. This made me ask if it might be a good idea to translate parts of Russian article to the English article or if it is not a good idea as I am not sure if has different things that would not work for the English article? AerospaceCoot35 (talk) 05:33, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Standards differ between projects. It's unlikely that translation will bring much useful content over, as the real effort would be doing a proper translation. Well written Russian does not necessarily translate to well written English. I'd say the weakest part of the article right now is Reception, but even if there's something to translate from Ruwiki, our sourcing standards differ and you would need to make sure all the reviews and sources in use are Reliable for Enwiki. -- ferret (talk) 17:28, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I wanted to make sure. AerospaceCoot35 (talk) 18:37, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mention of Modding?[edit]

Would it be worthwhile to create a section talking about the game’s prolific modding scene, mentioning the tModLoader API and even the notable Calamity mod? SharepenedSpoons (talk) 16:22, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If there are sources to back that up. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 16:58, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the cancelled sequels section, the paragraph about Terraria 2 should be removed because that game has not been cancelled. The game is stated to still be in development on the official Terraria Wiki. CoolJhon (talk) 21:09, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Official Wiki or not, it is an unreliable WP:USERG site. We have reliable sources that the developer says it is cancelled. -- ferret (talk) 22:07, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have checked the links on the Official Terraria Wiki, and they are all from things developers have said, or articles about what developers have said. I also cannot find a single case of a developer stating that the game has been cancelled. CoolJhon (talk) 22:54, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You really can't? Not even this or this? -- ferret (talk) 23:17, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Terraria Otherworld is not the same thing as Terraria 2. CoolJhon (talk) 23:27, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I just realized that I ment to say the sentence about terraria 2, not the paragraph. Sorry for the typo. Terraria 2 has not been cancelled, and that sentence should be removed from the section about cancelled games. CoolJhon (talk) 23:30, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence about Terraria 2 in the cancelled sequels section should be removed, because Terraria 2 is still in development and has not been cancelled. The rest of the section should be left the same because Terraria: Otherworld has been cancelled. CoolJhon (talk) 19:28, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: See above. You still need to provide reliable sources for these being two different games. You can continue to respond above (or here) but please do not start another edit request for this issue. Grayfell (talk) 19:41, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grayfell Based on reading reliable sources I do agree they are separate games. The issue is that there appears to have never been any official announcement for Terraria 2, just random teases and mentions. I've found sources as recent as 2022-2023 saying "nothing new is known, nothing imminent", but not for "cancelled". -- ferret (talk) 19:54, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Terraria Otherworld was announced to be cancelled in this post by a developer in 2018.
Terraria 2 has still been mentioned to be in development multiple times after 2018 including in this post. CoolJhon (talk) 19:57, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first link is messed up, I ment to use this one CoolJhon (talk) 20:05, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you find a source that meets the requirements in WP:RS? Wikipedia doesn't use forum posts as sources. MrOllie (talk) 20:07, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Terraria: Otherworld was cancelled in 2018, here is my source. Terraria 2 has not officially been cancelled by a developer since then. CoolJhon (talk) 20:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You need a source for both statements. MrOllie (talk) 20:41, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no source stating that Terraria 2 has been cancelled, which is why the sentence about it in the cancelled sequels section should be removed. CoolJhon (talk) 20:44, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There has been official Terraria 2 concept art that was made in 2022, 4 years after Terraria: Otherworld was cancelled. CoolJhon (talk) 20:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the article to more clearly explain that these are two separate games. The IGN source seems sufficient for this. It would be nice to have a source specifically mentioning that Otherworld is separate from Terraria 2, but I don't think this is contested point, and the timeline is clear enough that this doesn't seem like WP:SYNTH to me.
