UConn–UMass football rivalry → Connecticut–UMass football rivalry – College football rivalry articles should follow the naming convention found at Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Master team table. "Connecticut" is the name preferred by the University rather than "UConn". I understand that this breaks symmetry in this title, but see South Florida–UCF rivalry for a very similar case. Comment At this point, the University of Connecticut prefers "UConn" but we have not updated the WP:CommonName to match. I don't have a strong opinion at this point, but as a follower of the teams, I know the University is pushing media to adopt UConn, with limited success. Comment. As noted by Billcasey, we should frankly shift all of the Connecticut program articles to UConn per WP:CommonName, but unless and until such a global shift is approved, we ought to remain consistent in our usage. Comment I believe that in general it should stay as Connecticut. Most media refer to them as both UConn and Connecticut interchangeably. The branding has switched back and forth over the years for decades and the school is still officially the University of Connecticut. We don't call Missouri Mizzou just because of branding. This article is a unique case because the rivalry was called the U-game for a while, which only makes sense if you call them by their nicknames. I don't feel strongly about the title of this article, but for general use I do feel strongly that it should stay as Connecticut. Mjs32193 (talk) 21:19, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly Oppose I don't know where this idea came from, but as an alumni I can't think of *anyone* that calls it "Connecticut", including the University itself... like here [1] or here [2] or here in the media ... [3] or many other examples. I also note that there is no citation here or on Connecticut Huskies football to back up this assertion. Can someone cite where this alleged claim of preference is stated? There would need to be some discussions for this to figure out the logistics if this is the course taken. First of all, UConn is a relatively recent branding when considering the history of the school. Unlike UMass, the school is still officially the University of Connecticut. This would differ from how most other schools that are branded differently from their offical name are handled on sports pages. See Mizzou, UofL, USF, URI, UNH etc. Then comes the question of which years to change. Historically (and still to this day by some in the media, especially WBB coverage) they were called the Connecticut Huskies. They have switched back and forth on branding of uniforms numerous times over the decades (and branding has not always been consistent across sports in a given year). My best suggestion, if we were to move the program pages, would be to begin with the 2013–14 academic year. The rebranding that really focused on UConn began in the spring of 2013, and media began mostly picking it up that year.
