Ug99[edit]

I definetly dont know enough to write about this subjekt - but i think there needs to be a larger section about ug99 that are in epedemic now(2009) in some parts of asia, the middle east and africa and potentially will spread to europa and in worst case affect most weat-production overall. I have heard rumors that ug99 is for most weatgenums what Dutch elm disease is for elm.

I think it would be nice with a ug99-resistent weat-species list - but i just think ug99 ought to be mentioned even though there prob isnt a big actual hazard. - luise:) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.167.173.177 (talk) 21:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To not merge List of wheat diseases into Wheat diseases Klbrain (talk) 20:48, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On 8 February 2012, editor Snek01 suggested that the List of wheat diseases article be merged into this article. Right now the /* Examples of wheat diseases */ section is what is duplicated. While for each disease the information listed is about the same, the List of wheat diseases article contains more diseases, and lists them in tabular format. However, absent from the List of wheat diseases article are the two parasitic nematode diseases. With the exception of the citation for Black point that I added yesterday, neither article has any of the diseases referenced to a reliable source, such as Bockus, William W.; et al. (2010). Compendium of wheat diseases and pests (third ed.). St. Paul, Minnesota: APS Press. ISBN 978-0-89054-385-6. {{cite book}}: Explicit use of et al. in: |author= (help) or its much larger earlier edition Wiese, Maurice Victor (1987). Compendium of Wheat Diseases (second ed.). St. Paul, Minnesota: APS Press. ISBN 978-0-89054-076-3.. Without the examples section, this article would be quite short, but with the full list, it would be quite long. Since I think, and hope, that this article can be fruitfully expanded. I would oppose immediate merger. Meanwhile, I will merge the examples section into the List of wheat diseases article, and reorganize this article a bit. I suspect that organizing the diseases in the "Principal diseases" section by vulnerabilities may prove productive, otherwise the organization in Bockus (2010) isn't too bad. --Bejnar (talk) 21:23, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose the merge proposal (in agreement with Bejnar), on the grounds that there is scope for expanding the list and main article independently in this large field. Klbrain (talk) 20:48, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
