Could the version in the sandbox be copied over to live.

I'm just adding back in the {{{parea}}} parameter back which was missed out when the template was converted to WPBannerMeta. This will also help to populate the Category:African protected areas articles by quality categories. Thanks. -- WOSlinker (talk) 22:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{edit protected}} Please undo this last edit from John Carter as unnecessary. It is not included in the correct hook (i.e. "tfnested" is for nested names and links only, not assessment) and duplicates information already in the code under the taskforces hook, thanks Borgarde (talk) 07:24, 27 October 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Updates[edit]

{{edit protected}}

  1. Please update |TF_9_MAIN_CAT = WikiProject African protected areas articles to |TF_9_MAIN_CAT = African protected areas task force articles and delete Category:WikiProject African protected areas articles, in favor of Category:African protected areas task force articles used by the project and its parent WP:PAREAS.
  2. please add the shortcut to the importance parameter, for example: |tf 9 importance={{{Protected areas-importance|{{{parea-importance}}}}}} to match the class parameter shortcut of parea. --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:20, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for the confusion, because there is more than one TF9, the right one did not get corrected in the above edit. I have since created a sandbox version, which can be copied over to the real template. In addition, there was another correction needed regarding the syntax for "Comoros". Book class[edit]

{{editprotected}} I've set up the subpage to support the book-class. However there hasn't been a discussion about this, so I won't make the edited protected request yet. This would greatly help Wikiproject-Wikipedia books whenever there are discussions about Africa-related books. Anyone for/against this? WikiProject Somalia[edit]

The template {{WikiProject Somalia}} simply redirects to this one, in which case the parameter "Somalia=yes" is not included (and thus the page is not flagged for WikiProject Somalia). I tried to update the Somalia template, so that it would transclude as follows:

  • {{WikiProject Africa|BANNER_NAME=Template:WikiProject Somalia|category=no|class=|importance=|Somalia=yes|Somalia-importance=}}

However, this places the talk page in a category for malformed WikiProject templates (or some such). Omitting "category=no" gives an error on the template page itself.

This doesn't work either:

  • #redirect[[Template:WikiProject Africa|Somalia=yes]]

Can someone help me out? Should I just rebuild the template using {{WPBannerMeta}} using the relevant parameters from {{WikiProject Africa}}? Effectively, the {{WikiProject Somalia}} template needs to work like this:

  • {{WikiProject Africa|Somalia=yes}}

Thank you, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:43, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The main problem with the first one was that you passed |category=no - this will always cause the page to go into Category:WikiProject banners with formatting errors. Setting |category=no should only be done if a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Another problem is that |BANNER_NAME=Template:WikiProject Somalia simply won't be recognised; and |class=|importance=|Somalia-importance= are all ineffectual because they have no value. |Somalia=yes is good though.
The second one wouldn't work because redirects cannot give, or be given, parameters.
You've got the basic idea with the last one; but doing this won't feed through all the other parameters such as |class= and |importance=. This should do it:
  • {{WikiProject Africa |small={{{small|}}} |category={{{category|}}} |listas={{{listas|}}} |auto={{{auto|}}} |class={{{class|}}} |importance={{{importance|}}} |attention={{{attention|}}} |needs-infobox={{{needs-infobox|}}} |Somalia=yes |Somalia-importance={{{importance|}}} }}
--Redrose64 (talk) 19:47, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I hadn't seen this before I asked again (n/m; actually you replied a little afterwards). I tried using this but it still places the template in Category:WikiProject banners with formatting errors, with a message at the top that says "The WikiProject banner below should be moved to this template's talk page." Other than that, I checked a few of the talk pages that still use this, and the template itself seems to work. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:18, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm. I didn't expect that. It may well require building up independently of {{WikiProject Africa}}, i.e. using {{WPBannerMeta}}. Advantages: you won't get the error messages on Template:WikiProject Somalia; disadvantages: it won't inherit any future changes that may be made to {{WikiProject Africa}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:26, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another possibility is to simply nominate the WP:SOMALIA template for deletion; there are 2 or 3 dozen talk pages that still use the template and these could be migrated to the WP:AFRICA template. In any case, for now I have left it as-is; maybe someone at the WPBannerMeta talk page will have another idea. Thanks again, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:10, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think this might work, see: diff. Got the idea from WPUSA, they're combining a lot of the templates for the different US state projects. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:42, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Added one more fix, see: Template:WikiProject Somalia. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:50, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
These edits have removed some of the parameters (|auto= |attention= |needs-infobox=). WikiProject Somalia now recognises only the following: |small= |category= |listas= |class= |importance= |Somalia-importance= --Redrose64 (talk) 17:04, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I realized that too, but I've removed all the backlinks now from the WPSomalia template, so I'm going to mark it for deletion, since it's been migrated over to this template. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:29, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request:Western Sahara[edit]

Hi,
Can you please replace the flag used for Western Sahara by this, per WP:NPOV and Wikipedia:Western Sahara Infobox/Vote.

The territory is disputed, displaying that flag to refer to the territory is clearly partisan. Consensus already reached, for the change of the flag at the page linked above.

Libyan flag[edit]

The WikiProject Libya flag should be changed to the NTC flag (File:Flag of Libya (1951).svg), as the UNGA has voted in favour of it. This change has already been enacted on the project page and its dependent templates. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 18:14, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 16 November 2012[edit]

You don't need to copy the changes into the "Begin request" bit above - errors might be made in transcription either to there, or to the live template. Easiest to ask that the template code be copied from the sandbox.
Not done for now: I would copy straight from sandbox to live - I made that edit this morning so that both the comparison and the copying would be easier (notice the "edit the page · sandbox" links in the box above), but I've been looking at it since then; and I'm not sure that the sandbox version is quite correct. You've added the {{WPBannerMeta/hooks/peerreview}} to the tail of a bunch of {{WPBannerMeta/hooks/tfnested}}, which are hung on |HOOK_NESTED= - but the doc for {{WPBannerMeta/hooks/peerreview}} implies that it should be hung on |HOOK_NOTE=. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:04, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed (?), created Peer Review Hook_Note and removed it from the list of Hook_Nested. See sandbox. This is based on the example at Template:WikiProject Western Asia, but they had other properties in the Hook Note, and Africa template has no other hook note items, so single hook note for this. Test case, Talk:Company rule in Rhodesia, appears to function the same. (P.S. removed the change to the begin request above to avoid any confusion or errors). Thanks again for the help, I know my complete brain spasms on the technical stuff must not be the most fun contribution, but it is greatly appreciated. AbstractIllusions (talk) 01:07, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By putting the {{WPBannerMeta/hooks/peerreview}} on the |HOOK_NOTE=, the peer review info correctly appears in the collapsible "More information" section, rather than on the end of the taskforces (as it does here). This seems good to go, so Done. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:00, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request: Remove whitespaces[edit]

There are some whitespaces/blanks on this template. See the my edit on sandbox version of template: diff. --Zyma (talk) 15:21, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit protected}} template. Your changes appear to be a lot more than simply altering whitespace. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:21, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What?! Those whitespaces are just useless blank spaces in the articles. Are you not familiar with them or with that script? Just review the article before and after my change. There is no need a consensus for a minor edit like that. --Zyma (talk) 17:30, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You presumably didn't use the link which I gave, which compares the current sandbox with the current live template. Since that is different from the diff link that you gave, it gives the impression that you want other changes made besides the ones described above. If all you want doing is a few trailing spaces removed, then the answer is again no - the removal of those spaces will not change either the appearance or functionality of the template, and so is change for the sake of change. What it will do is cause 86,363 pages to be placed in the job queue for reparsing, which is a waste of resources. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:49, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with you. I just want to remove whitespaces. Not other changes to this template. Another template editor should review my request. My diff shows what I want and what is my request. It's clear. --Zyma (talk) 16:45, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Second Request: edited to match as a minor edit[edit]

Now compare:

Not done: Sorry, but I have to agree with Redrose64. There's no reason to flood the job queue with over 80,000 pages just to remove a few spaces. Perhaps this can be done along with another, more substantial edit in the future. LittleMountain5 19:22, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Change WikiProject Swaziland to Wikipedia:WikiProject Eswatini per consensus to move the main article to Eswatini. Hddty. (talk) 01:34, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:18, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose @Hddty.: There was a WP:RM discussion at Talk:Eswatini which agreed to rename the head article. However, I see no discussion on renaming the WikiProject. That seems to have been a WP:BOLD move by you. Please hold off further moves until there is a consensus to rename the WikiProject. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:43, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@BrownHairedGirl: Consensus isn't needed if the move is not controversial. That WikiProject have "fewer that 30 watchers" and no one replying to a discussion in the talk page. Hddty. (talk) 03:22, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • The project and categories have now been moved but this template continues to populate redirects. Can someone in the know update the template? Timrollpickering 10:50, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
     Done, I believe. I read through the various RfC and CfD discussions, and this change no longer appears to be controversial. Please ping me from here if further edits are needed, or if there are unexpected side effects. With so many template modifications, pages moves, and category moves, there is probably more cleanup that needs to happen. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:30, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks. Is it possible to include options on the template to catch anything using Swaziland and populate the Eswatini categories? Timrollpickering 21:04, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Those pages will appear in Category:Africa articles with invalid parameters (0). Each page will need to have "Swaziland" changed to "Eswatini" manually. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:05, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

More categories to move?[edit]

The CfD discussion has concluded, and many categories have been renamed, but it appears (unless I'm missing it) that the subcategories of Category:WikiProject Eswatini articles were missed. They probably need to have corresponding Eswatini categories created, or whatever the correct process is. You can see red links to Eswatini categories at the bottom of this page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:36, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template not working for Ghana[edit]

Use of the template {{|WikiProject Africa|Ghana=yes}} does not produce the expected result:

WikiProject iconAfrica: Ghana Template‑class
WikiProject iconThis template is within the scope of WikiProject Africa, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of Africa on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
TemplateThis template does not require a rating on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.
Taskforce icon
This template is supported by WikiProject Ghana.

You can also note the name "Ghana" is missing from the list in the banner at the top of this page. A quick review of the code seems to indicate the problem was that Ghana was added using the invalid value tf=11. It appears a subtemplate is called several times with up to 10 tf parameters. This may require renumbering the entire template, however since I'm not familiar with the internal workings of the template, I'll leave it up to someone more well versed than I to fully assess and propose a working solution. I thought I should bring this to your attention. Sincerely, LibraryGeek (talk) 18:10, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

 Fixed, more or less. I have moved Ghana from the 11th position in its group to another group. It shows out of alphabetical order in the list, but if people really want alphabetical order, the template should be rebuilt with no more than five or six items per nested template to allow for future additions. They're not making any fewer countries in Africa, after all.
Note also that Template:WikiProject Ghana exists. I don't know how that template relates to this one, if at all. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:10, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The bug fix is appreciated. I agree that the template may need a major restructuring for long-term maintainability. There doesn't seem to be a consistent idea of how these particular continental/regional templates should work in the greater scheme of things, let alone a coordinated effort to restructure them Wikipedia-wide, which is why I'm asking questions and trying to see who else may be interested in moving to this kind of template, if not with this particular code.
