Category:Types of restaurants

I'm wondering about this rev and this rev. You might know more about categorization best practices than I do. However, I would have thought it better to keep separate articles about particular restaurants (Category:Restaurants by type) from articles about types of restaurants (Category:Types of restaurants). Hi Daask: I'm not sure what you're trying to explain, but I realized that the two categories had exactly the same information in each; some articles even had both categories. Hi, MJ! I know you are a longtime editor here, and maybe you already know that the Donald Trump article is under WP:Discretionary sanctions. I see that you have already been given the standard notice about DS. I wanted to caution you, because you were violating those sanctions when you restored your edit to the lede after someone had challenged it. If new material like yours is challenged, it must not be restored to the article until consensus to include it has been reached on the talk page. Furthermore, at that article in particular, any additions or changes to the lede are supposed to be discussed first. Just so you are aware, "Local consensus" isn't a thing. You can't revert a change for that reason. Category:Geobox usage tracking for settlement type & Template:Geobox/type/settlement&redirect=no both indicate that this template is deprecated. That makes no sense, but this isn't something to be mad about. The template has needed those parameters for years; that's why I chose to use the geobox in the first place. MTA MNRR

Just so you know, the Empire Corridor is a designation given by the Federal Railroad Administration. Being a part of the same corridor, it is served by the MTA and Amtrak combined. It has long been established (and recently enforced) that the |line= parameter is for physical track, the |service= parameter is for the service lines used in revenue service: i.e. Adirondack, Empire Service, Ethan Allen Express, Hudson Line, Maple Leaf, Lake Shore Limited. Kinda like how this 96th Street station is served by the 1, 2, and 3 trains, but it's on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of physical track. Cards84664 (talk) 17:43, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

@Cards84664: Make a parameter called "corridor" then. Because the parameter says "line", and thus it makes perfect sense that it's served by the Hudson Line. That's what the parameter is there for, to link the line that the station is servicing. The detail of Empire Corridor is less relevant, and should be either under a corridor parameter, or displayed in the line parameter, under Hudson Line. TLDR- your rationale is logical, but it is not serving the parameter's purpose, nor serving the readers in what is most relevant here. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 19:14, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

I implore you, can we work together this time? I really don't care who was "to blame" for the last time around. Call it 50/50. I don't care... I just don't want to go down that road again. Was way too frustrating. If you want to join in the river process, we can always use another set of eyes and I'd love your insight. (The following is a compliment). You are one of those editors who can be super picky about things. Sometimes that can be annoying as hell. Other times, like now, it is super helpful because you pick up on things that others completely overlook. I think having your eyes on this project would be super helpful!

There are a number of discussions going on at Template talk:Infobox river. I for one would welcome your insight. If possible, please avoid reverting unless it is absolutely necessary. For example, with Hudson River. It looks like I dropped a discharge rate in the conversion? In the future, if you don't mind just dropping me a comment saying "hey when you converted <some page> you deleted <some value>. I'm pretty responsive on here. So if it is a small issue of a value or two being removed, drop me a line and give me a chance to fix it before you revert it, if that is ok with you? Obviously if I completely wreck the page (which has happened) that is totally different. Just trying to find a middle ground. Also trying to avoid the scenario where I convert a page, you revert it because I deleted 2 values. I convert it again fixing 1 of them but missing the 2nd, you revert it again because I'm still missing a value and boom we are in an edit war... If it is just a few values, let me know and I'll get right on them! :-)

You will see on the talk page that a couple of users have raised concerns. So far we've been having a really constructive conversation and I would welcome your thoughts and insight on the process. Finally, for what it is worth, I'm sorry for how much you and I butted heads in the past. Call it different personalities, call it whatever you want... Hey Ɱ, thanks for your edits to the Grand Central Terminal article. Just one question, though: what do you mean by this edit summary for converting all the references to list-defined format? Are you planning to expand the article?

If so, I could help. I was planning to rewrite the article early next year, similar to the style of Pennsylvania Station (1910–1963). There's a lot of sources about Grand Central that need to be added, as it needs quite a few improvements. We are talking about living and serving military staff here. WP:BLP applies in full force and leaving up claims which might prove libellous is not acceptable. We should remove all perjorative terms such as "strike" ASAP and, if need be, have an AfC discussion about that and reinstate them afterwards. You claim in [your subsequent edit comment] that "There is no policy to not offend war soldiers if RSs are in dispute... Few barely even served and that's not at all the point or focus here. WP:BLP is clear that "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion" (bold as policy). As far as I can tell, it is your edit comment which is "irrelevant completely". Your assertion is incorrect. The matter of sourcing is currently the subject of this RfC proposal. See also this discussion on the reliability of the sources cited. BLP is a full-blown policy which overrides the usual rules and emphasises in bold that the material should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion, we do NOT wait for consensus as you suggest. You also invoke WP:BRD. Please note that you have now reverted Oshwah's and my edits twice. Or sanctions may be taken against you. The argument that the strike happened is not poorly sourced; there's no arguing about that. There are dozens and dozens of traditionally reputable sources; the most reputable, like NYT, BBC, Smithsonian... Why the spacing

Please see WP:ACCESSIBILITY - easier to read and edit for everyone. It's to be expected that editors (like myself) and readers all do not have perfect vision. Additionally, I've been working on clearing out the backlog at Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting, and over 90% of the cite errors that get listed in that category are at articles that use a list-defined reference format. In articles that have a substantial amount of references, like Grand Central Terminal has, it appears to be the standard practice to have them spaced like that to make it easier to read and edit for everyone. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized).
