Hello, Ɱ

If you wish to prevent the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

But, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the raised issues. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

Hello, Ɱ. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of incorporated places in New York's Hudson Valley".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Dublin Link was not cancelled. Its opening ceremonies were. If articles affected by cancellations were included, every school article would be included. If the opening ceremony itself is notable, make an article for it to be included in the category, otherwise please don't add it to that category. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:43, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

You didn't bother to read the category nor my comment. No communication - bad form. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:45, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
The opening of the bridge is a crucial event to the bridge article, the bridge as a whole was delayed from the public. This isn't just like some school closure that would end up a minor part of its history. Categories do not have to be relevant to 100 percent of the article; they can be relevant to former uses as well as portions of articles. Even if the article title doesn't make full sense immediately, when you read the article, it makes sense. ɱ (talk) 22:47, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict) If someone reverts me without giving an edit summary or talk page notice (yet), I revert again. ɱ (talk) 22:50, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
See WP:OWN. The opening of the bridge is not notable; an article about it would be deleted or merged. Now you have made that this bridge is cancelled. That's fake. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:58, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Ohio History Connection

Bear with me, if you will, as I add a History section moving some of the previous contents that were in the lead paragraph to the body of the article. I'm going to revert your previous edits for now, but after another 20-30 minutes, if you disagree with the presentation, let's discuss in further detail on the article's talk page. I assure you, these will be much needed improvements to the article. --GoneIn60 (talk) 05:00, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Oh, I already self-reverted. Thanks for putting in effort with this here; this is one of many Columbus topics I've been thinking of really working on, but would likely not be anytime soon. ɱ (talk) 05:02, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for adding maps/infoboxes to many of the Columbus parks articles I created around the time of the WikiConference. Only if you're curious, you can view my photos from this trip at commons:User:Another Believer/Columbus, Ohio. There are still some unidentified subjects and possibly images to add to articles like Alexander Park (Columbus, Ohio), but I'm less familiar with the exact boundaries of parks and where I was when I was stumbling around town taking pics. Anyways, just sharing in case this is helpful. Happy editing, and stay safe, ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:57, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

No problem, it's been needing them! I'll take a look at your photos soon, but yeah, the boundaries between, say, North Bank Park to Alexander Park to Battelle Riverfront Park to the Scioto Mile Promenade and down to Bicentennial Park are extremely murky. IMO they should just name it all "Eastside/Downtown Riverfront Park" and call it a day... I still haven't found any map that clearly demarcates their boundaries, along with that of Genoa Park. Google Maps is no help either. ɱ (talk) 18:03, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

L. Timothy Ryan

Hi. I have looked at the citations provided in the article - each of them. I don't see where any of the articles, including those presented that are archived, that provide his exact birth date. the Post Gazette article mentioned his age, which we can use to extract a circa born date. A quick Google search and I can only find unreliable sources that source back to Wikipedia. I like to adhere to our BLP policies, so I was just curious if you could tell me what citation states his exact birth date? It's very likely I missed it, it happens! With your help, I can add an appropriate inline citation where his exact birth is mentioned in the article. I appreciate it, as I'm just trying to be conscious, and sensitive, to WP:BLPPRIMARY etc. Thank you so much. Missvain (talk) 05:54, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Post offices

Please revert this edit. All post office worldwide are within the remit of the philately project. That project is not just confined to stamps but all other aspects of the postal service, its infrastructure, laws, buildings, etc. I've discussed this previously re US POs. The British and Australian wikiprojects, amongst others, don't have any issue with this and understand the broader topic. ww2censor (talk) 11:19, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Those Pittsburgh maps

Hi. Thanks again for agreeing to that change. If you're curious (no action requested, just commenting), some of my response was just reacting against anything new, and if that IP address user hadn't started me looking I doubt I wouldn't have done anything. And your original maps really are very good in expanded form. But. What caught my eye was I didn't think they looked good in the small form that I see them in most of the time. The portrait-shape looks awkward for maps, and it clipped off the left and right edges of the city in the lower map. The top of the name "Pittsburgh" is clipped in both maps, and there's semi-visible text under the "Wikimedia" line at the bottom of the graphs, and with a map that small the plus and minus buttons cover up significant detail. After a while you probably ignore all that, but that's the first impression. Regards, Dan Bloch (talk) 04:25, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

@Danbloch: Alright, I appreciate that. As for the original formatting, sure, the city borders were a cut off a tiny bit, but it displayed better than when I tried it more zoomed out (unfortunately I can't do a zoom of like "9.5" or I would). The city name "Pittsburgh" did not appear clipped off as I've been viewing it, what are you using to view the page? As well, I don't see plus and minus buttons... And sure, the "Wikimedia/OpenStreetMap" bar will always block some neighborhood name or something, but it's not within the city boundaries, not something that's important here. ɱ (talk) 04:38, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
It's all an unholy mess, depending on browser versions and other factors I can't figure out. I wasn't expecting this. The +/- buttons and truncated captions are an artifact of looking at this in a Wikipedia edit screen. The reason I was looking at it in a Wikipedia edit screen is that if I look at an old revision of Pittsburgh, one of the two maps is grayed out. Additionally, and this is the really weird thing, all along I was seeing the maps stacked instead of side by side, but I gather this wasn't your intention and it turns out this only happens in Chrome, not in Firefox, and also only happens in my Chrome profile, not in a guest profile. So a lot of my objections were about browser artifacts. At this point I just don't care any more. If you want to change it back feel free. Dan Bloch (talk) 05:33, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, and yeah. The edit windows display things differently, it's a known bug that hopefully will get fixed. Let me tinker with it more and see what you think. ɱ (talk) 15:04, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Looks good in Firefox and in guest profile in Chrome. Maps are still stacked vertically in my profile in Chrome, but that's a Chrome problem. If I'm bored maybe I'll submit a bug to them. Thanks, Dan Bloch (talk) 16:19, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
Curious. Wish there was a better way than the stack template... ɱ (talk) 16:27, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Columbus Union Station

I'm thrilled to see that you're bringing your considerable talents to bear on Columbus Union Station. It's been on my to-do list for a while (I photographed the arch myself on one of my annual Saturday-in-fall trips to Columbus), but I doubt I'll have much to add after you're done. I haven't been able to find a free photo - or any photo, really - of the station building itself, but I did just find shots of a very out-of-place Turboliner at the platforms and the 1977-79 station. The story of the arch move is quite fantastic; there are some [non-free] photos here and here. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 05:54, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted my edits on this article, I don't see why you did as I backed my edits with reliable sources. Really, I see no reason for why you have any right to revert these edits. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 17:20, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

As you can see here, the National Portrait Gallery produces opposite paintings to that of the White House itself. It is not a "personal idea" and frankly I'm offended you referred to my edits as such when you reverted them. I wish you had come to discuss this with me ahead of time instead of doing this. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 17:28, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hi, yes, I reverted some of your edits. I kept some, but your alteration of "On Monday February 12, 2018, the official presidential likenesses of Barack Obama" to "On February 12, 2018, unofficial portraits of Barack Obama" was not sourced, and ran contrary to the reference, The New York Times, a highly reputable source. As well, for the Trump portrait, Newsweek cited the work as the official portrait. Can you find sources that say otherwise? ɱ (talk) 17:29, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict) In reply to your next comment, your source does not directly confirm or deny the official status of the Obama or Trump portraits. Frankly I'm offended you didn't take the time to read the article talk page; there's been discussion of it there, you should join the discussion before editing in your preferred version. I wish you had come to discuss this there ahead of time instead of doing this. ɱ (talk) 17:33, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Calling them "official" is fluff to begin with. As you should know by browsing the discussion you'd know the National Portrait Gallery and the White House Historical Association are two separate entities. Calling either "official" is factually inaccurate on our part as we should abide by the source when we know it itself is not factually accurate. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 17:36, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
This is a more significant discussion to be had, on the article talk page. I don't think the New York Times is incorrect or adding fluff in calling the portraits official. ɱ (talk) 17:39, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
I'd say they are, and to back up my prior claim here is a source for it "In more recent history, the money has come from private donations, usually raised by the National Portrait Gallery. (The White House Historical Association has also raised private funds for portraits, but that’s a separate operation.)" But yes, I'll be moving discussion to the talk page and I'll have another proposition if you're interested in hearing. MyPreferredUsernameWasTaken (talk) 17:40, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip on upper/lower case on institutions. I was just attempting for consistency across the article and was unaware of the MOS section on that - so I learned something. I hope the returning of business to Ohio gets you back to work soon. We're struggling here as well. Cleveland Todd (talk) 16:10, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

No problem, and thanks. ɱ (talk) 16:24, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Columbus flag image?

Hello! Thank you for your edits to the Flag of Columbus, Ohio article. As you are a citizen of the city, I was wondering if it would be possible for you to take a better image of the flag flying outside the city hall for the article, as the image currently used isn't the greatest (partially obstructed by a tree, very busy). With COVID-19, now most likely is not the greatest time for this- I was just wondering if you could take one in the future.

Thanks! Jordano53 (talk) 03:30, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Yeah I might already have one, let me look! Thanks for creating the article, most appreciated. ɱ (talk) 03:35, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
@Jordano53: I took a clearer one quickly with my phone, though it doesn't have City Hall in the background. Hard to get a good angle, but I'm going to try again sometime soon with my real camera. In the meantime, is this photo any better? ɱ (talk) 23:05, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
I would say its a significant improvement, if you're able to get a better angle, please let me know, but I think I am going to implement this picture. Jordano53 (talk) 23:09, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Ohio Wikimedians User Group: May 2020 newsletter

General Updates

I hope this message finds you well and in good health during these trying times. Below is a list of some online activities that you may be interested in participating in.

  • The Wiki Global Check In has started! This initiative is gathering check-ins from Wikimedians all around the world, and asks for a photo that captures something related to life in your context or part of the world during the pandemic.
  • WALRUS (Wikimedians Active in Local Regions of the United States) is now hosting virtual meetings twice a month on Monday evenings. This is a place to discuss anything Wikimedia, as well as a place for Wikimedians to come together and mutually support each other. The next virtual meeting should be on Memorial Day, May 25th. You can sign up for the Wikimediaus-l mailing list to stay up to date on all WALRUS happenings and to receive meeting invites.
  • Wikipedians have been busy documenting the pandemic. In Ohio, we have articles on the pandemic in Ohio and in Columbus (the latter of which was written by our newest Ohio Wikimedians member, !). If interested, you're encouraged to help update and expand these articles, or even consider creating articles documenting the pandemic in other Ohio metro areas.
View of Florence from San Miniato by Thomas Cole, an American painter who once settled in Steubenville, Ohio, and won third-place in a competition to design the Ohio Statehouse. This painting is in the Cleveland Museum of Art's collection.
  • If you miss visiting your local museums, don't forget that the Cleveland Museum of Art's entire collection is available online and in the public domain (when permissible). Our WikiProject Cleveland Museum of Art is currently tracking 44 English Wikipedia articles and 40,322 images, which are now acquiring over 2,000,000 views a month. If you're interested in contributing, there is still plenty of work to be done to expand and create new articles!

Movement Strategy

  • The finalized Movement Strategy Recommendations have been published! This is a clarified and refined version of the recommendations that were released in January.
  • The Wikimedia Summit 2020 that was to occur in April was canceled, and Wikimedia Deutschland will not be hosting a virtual replacement. In its stead, Ryan Merkley, members of the movement strategy core team, and external consultants are exploring options to move the contents of the conference into a series of virtual events.
Have something for the next newsletter? Add it to our June 2020 draft.

On behalf of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group,

COVID-19 in Columbus

Thanks for all your work on COVID-19 pandemic in Columbus, Ohio! This article was the kick I needed to start a similar article about the San Francisco Bay Area. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 17:15, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Neat, glad it helped. I wish I get more time to make it as good as this one! ɱ (talk) 18:16, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
May 20, 7pm: ONLINE WikiWednesday Salon NYC

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-8pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop. We look forward to seeing local Wikimedians, but would also like to invite folks from the greater New York metropolitan area (and beyond!) who might not typically be able to join us in person!

This month, we'll focus on WikiProject New York City and our favorite local articles, as well as Wiki Loves Pride past and future.

Is there a project you'd like to share? A question you'd like answered? A Wiki* skill you'd like to learn? Let us know by adding it to the agenda.

7:00pm - 8:00 pm online via Zoom (optional breakout rooms from 8:00-8:30)

We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues!

(You can subscribe/unsubscribe from future notifications for NYC-area events by adding or removing your name from this list.)

I know how to use talk pages now

I know how to use talk pages on Wikipedia now. I'm sorry if I didn't talk back at first and I just want to be unblocked. TylerKutschbach

@TylerKutschbach: It's alright! Glad you are now. Now, as for the Columbus article, I changed that template to allow for 1812 population data, from when the city was first settled. This is important context, and should stay. ɱ (talk) 04:49, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Your contribution to the Portraits of presidents of the United States talk page

Hello, I've noticed you've chimed in at the talk page regarding my recent RfC proposal. I'd like to know further of the apparent opposition to my proposal, as I can't find it and you haven't further elaborated following your referencing of it.
