- I don't care about IP evasion right now. Sure you blocked them as a sockpuppet, but you and several others are still edit warring to keep your preferred image. Geoffreyrabbit was only blocked on February 20, far after all of this edit warring. You need to learn to discuss what you all prefer as the lede image, you can't simply keep on reverting and reverting. ɱ (talk) 15:07, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- Really, no. I made three edits, all of which were reverting Geoffreyrabbit. That editor was swapping in objectively terrible images in lots of articles, and refusing to discuss. Everyone was reverting them. I was not restoring images I liked. I was removing images that everyone did not like. Really, look at the history of pages Geoffreyrabbit edited and you will see. - Do you know the phrase "just because everyone's doing it, doesn't make it right"? Edit warring to stop a troublesome editor is still edit warring. I think it would've been better to post on the user's talk page, ping them on the article's talk to join the image discussion, and maybe if neither of those work, go to AN/I or somewhere else so they can be stopped from disruptively editing. ɱ (talk) 20:32, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- Really, this editor was changing lots and lots of images without discussing. Reverting in such cases is not edit warring. I already said we tried countless times to get the user to discuss. They just removed the talk post again and again. Please, please dig into the user's talk page history. Did you do that? And bring them to ANI? I did. Plus, I'm an administrator. I was undoing their damage and trying to get them to talk patiently for weeks, until another admin finally blocked them. Please, please do your research before making accusations. - Just to be clear, when I said above "...Plus, I'm an administrator....", I didn't mean I want the benefit of the doubt or special treatment from you. I meant only that I was handling the Geoffreyrabbit as a case for quite some time. My focus was stopping the disruption, not trying to get a specific roast fish image into an article. At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City. New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events. | |

...on the Irvington story. I frankly didn't see the mention of Myrtle Avenue, or I would have been suspicious. Two specific references to "New York" and it being a "charming historic village on the Hudson" did. The story makes a lot more sense taking place in Irvington, NJ. Thanks again. X-10 Graphite Reactor
The maplink looks terrible. The map is dominated by an oversized fuzzy blue dot, and the surrounds tell you nothing. You could be looking at anywhere. Is it possible to replace the fuzzy blue thing with the small dot like the old map used, and zoom it out so Tennessee is in the frame? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 03:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Hawkeye7: I edited it to address some of your concerns. Maplink was developed to replace the thousands of easily-outdated, inconsistent, hard-to-create, static maps. Previously, the map in this article really only showed about where Oak Ridge is within Tennessee, something most Tennesseeans know, and can be found on Google Maps or the Oak Ridge wiki article easily. This map takes you to the exact building. Also - the maplink developers created that blue dot, which sure looks a little hazy, but the only thing I can do is add an icon to it, see here. I don't think they want less consistent markers, like custom jpg circles. I also zoomed out the map. Let me know what you think of the changes I just made. ɱ (talk) 04:03, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

I have to know, before I respond at the article, if you believe that cast-iron is a poor heat conductor, or if you believe that you are just following a source? - For clarification, I knew prior to the debate that cast iron, steel, aluminum were all less conductive than materials like copper (a common cooking vessel material) and gold (uncommon cooking vessel material). I wasn't sure how cast iron compared to aluminum and steel, but the sources indicate it pretty well. I support including comparisons of cast iron, steel, aluminum, and copper conductivity and heat retention in the article, based on those sources. ɱ (talk) 17:27, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

  The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Saturday November 16, 2019 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely. Asia Art Archive will host a sister event in Hong Kong next week.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. l-r stagger
Please explain what you mean by "l-r stagger preferred"? Preferred by whom? Not by me. In articles for which I feel responsible, pics get to the left only when the person pictures looks to the right, but not even then if there's not enough room to have first a paragraph without image - to have text below a header, not an image - and not to displace the next header. Rarely, that is. Give it a thought, perhaps? - Today, look at Clara Schumann, only one image left because of the above limitations. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:42, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt: I've had this discussion many times. In GA and FA reviews, I've been instructed by veteran reviewers/FA writers to stagger images left and right as it generally makes the page more balanced, and lets more images stay aligned with their corresponding content. MOS:Images is purposefully vague, as I've found from discussing this issue on the talk page. For articles with few images, sure, the de-facto should be only placing images on the right, but it is generally more preferable to stagger left and right, unless there are issues like mos:sandwiching, which some people hate and won't tolerate at any cost. That's an issue that I don't mind, as I would not sacrifice relevant content and images simply over subjective interpretations of ideal article layout. ɱ (talk) 17:28, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
- And again, thank you for your patience with this; I've been working long hours at work, and only now had proper free time to respond. Also, I am not in the 'camp' that has displeasure over sections with images immediately below and left of the text. It's not like readers are incompetent enough to understand that the image and the section both correlate with the heading; this 'issue' is generally just one of WP:JUSTDONTLIKEIT. Screen widths do vary considerably (I alone edit on a widescreen desktop, small laptop, and mid-size phone, meaning formatting should not be stressed so much; it will vary considerably no matter what you do or do not do. ɱ (talk) 17:34, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
