Some tips for you![edit]

Hi 2679D, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:2679D/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Something to make your life easier![edit]

Hi there 2679D! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! I appreciate you effort, but I believes that the List of Startling by Each Step episodes is not necessary, in my opinion, due to the show isn't as long as most of the American TV series, of most of them having either 52 to 250 episodes. Hi,

I must admit, I was really frustrated when I saw your edits because I felt like you were disrupting the format of the articles. I was the one who started all the Star Awards pages (less the newly-introduced awards), which I have painstakingly sacrificed my private time to make sure that the format are consistent across all pages.

First of all, I just want to say that the profanity wasn't personal and of course it was not directed to you. It didn't mean as a personal attack, but more like an outlet for me to release my frustration. You are offended by it, I do apologise. But I have to reiterate, the profanity wasn't meant to be a personal attack for you.

With regards to why I have reverted your edits, here are my explanations:

1. Italicisation of show titles: I believe the standard across all Wikipedia pages is that we italicise show titles. I see that from the new award pages that you have created, you italicise the English titles but not the Mandarin ones. Isn't the Mandarin version also a show title? Why aren't we italicising it? Let's keep this consistent.

2. Order of nominees: If you have noticed, across all the award pages that I have created, I sort the nominees according to their last names. I believe this is also the standard on other award pages such as the Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. There shouldn't be any other kinds of sorting order because we do not want to give an impression that someone is ranked higher or lower than the other. Can you help verify translations of articles from Chinese[edit]

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Chinese to English Wikipedia?

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Chinese article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Chinese , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Chinese. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Chinese article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)
