It's back

I'm sorry about using the block cause I didn't know administrators do it. But I can tell you that the person that I tried to block is back as 199.96.246.132. BTW that person has been sending me abuse and attacking me. S_hannon434 4:38, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello I can't see that this person has been attacking you?--5 albert square (talk) 22:11, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Hide revision history candidate?

Hi 5 Albert Square

To seek an external opinion, should this edit of the article BBC he hidden from the revision history as it is basically all profanity and accusations of bias towards the BBC? I personally think it should, but I'm still fairly new to this sort of thing even though I've been editing a while.

Cheers, Rafmarham (talk) 20:06, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello
Please read WP:CRD. I do not think that under that it would qualify for revdel.--5 albert square (talk) 22:16, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

User talk:Wigglewoggle and User:IAidanBarry

User talk:Wigglewoggle and User:IAidanBarry

Hello there. I wanted to raise your attention to the above editors. Wigglewoggle is constantly disrupting and IAidanBarry seems to be just as bad. The second user has blatantly refused to listen to any of the advice given on a number of occasions. One time, if you at their talk edit history, they blanked my advice. Despite trying to ask them to stop disruptive articles, they joined forces (assuming they are not one now that IAidanBarry is blanking my messages on WiggleWoggle's talk page) to leave me two gloating messages. Which were kind of humorous considering they cannot grasp the fact they were reverted for violating WP:OR rather than merely being correct. Anyway blatant ignorance, edit warring, adding original research, no use of editing summaries, gloating messages, refusal to cooperate, ingoring guidelines regarding fair use rationales, etc. I thought it was time to alert an admin to this scenario.Rain the 1 21:34, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Hello

Here is an SPI report that proved the latest sock. They keep recreating Beth and Rob from Coronation Street. We have decided to improve Beth ourselves but Rob - nope. So can you deal with the sock puppet with the appropriate outcome for creating mmultiple accounts and being a troublemaker. Liamb productions

They've been in touch with me through email, so I'll respond to them that way. Daniel Case (talk) 14:53, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Was it really necessarily to resort to a block in this instance? I know it is just an {{Uw-softerblock}}, but this is an new editor who is being exceptionally constructive at the moment. A simple pointer to WP:CHU/S with an added explanations as to why the username should be changed would be just as effective and much less bitey. I would strongly suggest unblocking the editor and just pointing them over to CHU. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 07:27, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi,I felt in this instance it was. They are editing on behalf of a company which is definitely against Wikipedia policy . If they wish they can request to be unblocked for 24 hours to change it 5 albert square (talk) 07:55, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
The paid editing policy has a specific exception for GLAM related activities - and I would point out that the Frick Collection is a notable art museum. I would also mention that the editor is working on article's detailing specific artists, which seem to include no reference at all to Frick itself. Seeing there is no real conflict of interest or promotion the editor effectively behaves no different from an Wikipedian in Residence.
I don't disagree that the username itself should be changed, but i would - again - state I strongly disagree with the way we are approaching this issue. A straight block is in my eyes unnecessarily hostile behaviour towards an editor whose intentions seem to be in-line with Wikipedia's goals and purposes. I would again suggest unblocking the editor and pointing them to CHU instead. If you need someone to keep an eye on whether or not this actually happens i will happily volunteer for doing so. Hence, ill gladly take care of both the unblock and writing a pointer to CHU if that is an issue. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 08:27, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi Albert, i raised the above on ANI. As mentioned over there I would like to sort this one out before the blocked editor returns, yet i don't want to unblock while we don't agree on this. I think you logged out for the day, so i decided to raise it over there for speeds sake. (Blame my impatience ). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 10:08, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi yes I logged out for work. I have unblocked the user to allow them the chance to change their username 5 albert square (talk) 23:24, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll keep eye to make sure the username issue is revolved. (And apologies for the rush on this one, i really wanted to prevent the editor from being greeted by a block template) Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 15:21, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Autoblock

Hey, I noticed that you've recently made some username blocks with autoblock enabled. Typically, autoblock should be disabled when blocking for username, since they are encouraged to create a new account with an appropriate username and would be unable to do so if their IP address was blocked. Just a heads up. -- King of ♠ 09:09, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

ah sorry been a genuine error 5 albert square (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Margot Robbie

Hello. Would you consider unprotecting "Margot Robbie" please? The article received a spate of vandalism in April 2012, after which you semi-protected. It also received vandalism in 2011. Thanks. Axl ¤ [Talk] 20:48, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello it's not something I'd consider at the moment. I checked the article before I protected it and from what I can remember the vandalism was pretty persistent and over the course of months. From what I can remember a number of editors did it plus IPs across the board. I appreciate it's not been vandalised since 2012 however that's because it's been protected :-) 5 albert square (talk) 21:38, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Okay. (With an article that has been protected for a long time, it is difficult to know whether the absence of vandalism is due to the protection.) Thank you anyway. :-) Axl ¤ [Talk] 09:43, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
I've just had a re-think of this. What I'm going to do is put it on pending changes protection for a month or two. That way it should give an indication if the vandalism is likely to return 5 albert square (talk) 23:42, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Axl ¤ [Talk] 00:05, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Margot Robbie

Just a quick note to ask that you double check the sources that are being removed from the page. I've added them back, as two had archive links and one did contain the info, but the editor must have missed it during their search. Thanks. :) - JuneGloom Talk 00:15, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Love how you managed to transclude my talk page to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism and therefore tag it for speedy deletion! I forgot I had that on my talk page - it was to prevert a certain sockpuppet from copypasting my page to theirs lol ;-) –anemoneprojectors– 18:02, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

LOL I don't even know how I did that as I just linked to your page! Sorry!! 5 albert square (talk) 18:06, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
You put {{ instaed of [[ so it was transcluded like a template. Then it got tagged for speedy deletion because if my talkpage is posted anywhere other than on my talk page, it assumes the page it's on is a sockpuppet of Trueman31 and asks for them to be blocked... So it said "User:Administrator intervention against vandalism is a sockpuppet of User:Trueman31", but with all my discussions following it! lol –anemoneprojectors– 18:16, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

@Kirin13: Thanks I have now blocked them. If you come across any more please report it to SPI and maybe request CheckUser too 5 albert square (talk) 21:12, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
I don't really understand how all those procedures work. Only time I tried a SPI, I was told that since no one was blocked, it's not socking. Since none of the three were blocked when I came across them, same deal. Thanks for taking care of this. Kirin13 (talk) 22:07, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

Bianca Butcher

Hi there, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the wrong place if I am I apologise. I was just wondering why you removed my edit from Bianca Butchers page, I had put her former surname as being Branning because it was before Jackson, Bianca, Robbie and Sonia were all Brannings before Carol got with Alan just wondering why you removed it? Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Braveheart5050 (talkcontribs) 18:51, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi Braveheart5050. Bianca has never been credited with the name Branning, neither have Robbie, Sonia nor Carol so the name Branning shouldn't be used for them. There was no "before Carol got with Alan" because they were together in their first episode. Thanks :-) –anemoneprojectors– 18:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Oh so what your saying is that Bianca didn't have a surname before her mum met her stepdad ah right I understand now thanks your being ever so helpful😊💕 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Braveheart5050 (talkcontribs) 19:03, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I didn't remove your edit to Bianca. However what AnemoneProjectors says is correct. The character has never been credited as Branning. The article should only reflect what the character has been credited as. Not what has happened prior to them appearing on screen 5 albert square (talk) 19:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I am trying to be pleasant, you could return the favour by not being sarcastic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Braveheart5050 (talkcontribs) 20:52, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Bascoot

(pinging @Edgar181 and Jim1138) Hi. When I reported User:Bascoot to UAA (User:Jim1138 subsequently reported them to AIV), my concern was the wording of the edit summaries on [1] and [2]. If the account is actually "the Egyptian government", it would seem to be a WP:ISU violation. It seems more likely that it's an impersonation problem, though. Don't we need to do something other than warn them here, like verify that it's a single person and, if they are going to claim to represent the Egyptian government, prove it? As far as the edits themselves, he's fairly well-covered in news sources, all calling him Egyptian, so I imagine we'd need to see something like a birth certificate or official statement published to contradict them, right? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 21:28, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

I've alerted user:Daniel Case to this discussion. He knows a bit more about the username policy than me 5 albert square (talk) 22:01, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
Funny, I just came back from seeing the film he's in. But anyway ... There might be other problems with this but I do not yet see how it's a username problem unless it's some acronym not easily understood in English (there would be about four different ways to spell that in Arabic, each of them possibly having a different meaning and root, so I'm not going to try guessing). Daniel Case (talk) 05:22, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
@Daniel Case: Right – it's not a problem with the username itself, but what they wrote and what that implies about the user. It's either a WP:ISU violation or an impersonation problem, depending on whether it's actually coming from the Egyptian government. Where do we go with it? Nowhere doesn't seem like the right solution, does it? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 06:25, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
It's clearly a matter for the conflict of interest noticeboard, IMO. Daniel Case (talk) 07:21, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Please note that i am not the admin or creator of the article but i have restructured the article according to the wikipedia guidelines. So keeping it short and simple, i am looking for your suggestions on making it a high quality (GA worthy) article. I have gone through various peer reviews and modelled the article acc. to the suggestions. Now,i just need your help.Thanking you. Wikiboy2364 (talk) 00:11, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi I'm not sure simply because I have no knowledge of the article. Have you tried reading WP:GA? 5 albert square (talk) 00:38, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
yes, i've read it. Is there something important point that i must've left out? Wikiboy2364 (talk) 05:08, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
No I just don't know enough about these types of articles. If I were you I'd put it forward as a GA. If there is any work to be done whoever reviews it will advise you 5 albert square (talk) 08:13, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Editor adding false info to British game/talent show articles

Hi, what is appropriate actions with an editor who is only adding false info to articles? Specifically, I'm talking about Teamvalley. (Btw: these are some of the same articles that FG789 targeted, though I'm uncertain if it's the same user or not.) Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 04:34, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello if you think it's a sock of User:FG789 then you would be best to report it to WP:SPI and request CheckUser to see if there are any sleepers. You should also file a report at WP:AIV 5 albert square (talk) 08:14, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
You can find an open SPI for him here 5 albert square (talk) 08:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
I don't have any proof to connect to FG789 and since user only got one warning, I didn't think it could be taken to AIV yet ... Kirin13 (talk) 15:24, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
@Kirin13: You can ask SPI to check if you're unsure. I've added Teamvalley as there was a message on FG789's talk page saying that they will edit Wikipedia. Then shortly after Teamvalley started to edit. Not the X Factor pages at first but to me that is suspicious.
@HJ Mitchell: are you able to assist with this please? 5 albert square (talk) 22:12, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I can add him to the SPI ... just not sure how. Do I start a separate date/investigation, do I add to 27 July investigation in main part, or do I add this username in "Comments by other users"? Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 23:17, 28 July 2014 (UTC) Okay, you already did. Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 23:19, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
I don't watch enough telly to judge whether the info is false, and they haven't edited since their splurge ~36 hours ago. That's as much as I can offer atm—I'm organising a major conference, which is just over a week away, so I'm insanely busy (to the extent that most of the little editing I've done recently has been from trains on the way to and from London!). Btw, come to my conference! :P HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:58, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
@Kirin13: Teamvalley has been found by checkuser to be unrelated.
@HJ Mitchell: I'd love to but Sony Xperia won't allow me the time off. Good luck with it though! 5 albert square (talk) 21:29, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. Kirin13 (talk) 21:52, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Quick note re:Braveheart5050

There was also Marcuswilliam63 that turned up in a check. I've blocked and tagged everything.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:23, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I did raise an SPI but for reference only just in case more accounts are created from now on 5 albert square (talk) 18:44, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for noting the open SPI. I've commented there and closed it. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:56, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

Ben Fitzgerald

You might want to take another look at the editor who changed his name again. User:MorM123 seems to be awfully similar to User:Mmor123. ;) - JuneGloom Talk 00:46, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

I forgot about him! Thanks :-) 5 albert square (talk) 01:04, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Blockings

I notice you blocked David cameron in a thong. I'm not complaining - I was thinking of doing the same for the name. My interest is that User:NJA's only edits since Christmas have been welcoming that user, and blocking User:Vidaboa73 as a vandal (for adding a Facebook link that still stands). I'm not sure I smell a rat or something fishy. There's definitely something odd. I've pinged NJA on Vidaboa73's page. Peridon (talk) 10:38, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello I am not sure what you are meaning. I blocked the David Cameron account for being an obvious sock of User:Trueman31. I can't see anything to relate the other accounts nor can I see anything suspicious at a quick glance 5 albert square (talk) 11:47, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
It's the welcoming of a new account with a dubious name (subsequently blocked as a sock), and the blocking as a vandal of someone just trying to add a Facebook link (which hasn't been reverted as it should have been if it was vandalism) - these being the only edits after an absence of over seven months. It just seems odd to me. I didn't recognise NJA's name, so I looked him up. Peridon (talk) 12:12, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Nothing fishy here, I decided to give Mr Cameron's thong the benefit of the doubt and give a vandal welcome though the other user's edits seemed like a newly created vandal only account. I'm at work, but if I was wrong on the blocked user and they're likely a legitimate new user then I apologise and of course have no issue with the block being revoked. I'll head to that user's page now to consider. NJA (t/c) 13:15, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I was starting to worry there... Peridon (talk) 13:21, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

NICK-NAMES AND REAL FIRST NAMES 80.5.73.125 (talk) 16:27, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Look 5 Albert Square, I'm sorry I edited, but it was just because I wanna know if former actress Pippa Black's real first name was Philippa, so please let me know if that's true and please could you thank me in a different way by saying 'Cheers!'. And my apologies once again for editing.

John Cooper

Hi John
I don't know. I did a general Google search for Philippa Black and found nothing relating to Pippa Black. If you think otherwise then please provide a realiable source to support the name change. Thanks. 5 albert square (talk) 16:31, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Henry Miller portraits by Hades

Hi! Why did you delete link? Tell me the reason pleas, if you don't mind. I think, the author of portraits is famous and these portraits are excellent! I'm sure they are masterpices of drawing. And worthy of attention to Wikipedia readers. Please reply me, I'm eager to know your opinion. Sasha-Shen16:21, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi it's like I said on ClueBot's talk page it looks be a promotional website. Please read WP:ELNO 5 albert square (talk) 14:46, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi, it looks like a site of an excellent artist-painter who has created EXCELLENT SINCERE portraits of her favorite writer. Do you see any difference between a sincere artistic interest to a great writer and a simple promotion of a stupid and shallow illustrator? Or for you these both things are the same? I like Henry Miller so much, I saw a lot of his portraits. These three portraits are THE BEST because they are made by the great artist and not by a shallow illustrator who produse a thousand of portraits of all famous people. I think I am right.
Sasha-Shen19:21, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi I don't know anything about art I have simply reverted it on what I saw and understood of the website. I'm sorry you don't like it. Can I ask just out of interest are you Hades? 5 albert square (talk) 16:06, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi No, I'm not a woman. I would be a real tragedy honestly to be a woman) It's a pity you know nothing about art, a good art is a rare thing. So you understand nothing in the art and you try to judge at the same time, it sounds a bit ridiculous.Upd Ah, sorry, I see, you are a woman, I said something wrong about you, women...Sorry.Sasha-Shen20:51, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Going through your contributions, I must say your anti-vandalism efforts are prolific! Just like mine! ...me bragging aside, they say that a good deed deserves another, so here's the "Another" part! I've received and given many of these barnstars out, so I'm going to give you one! The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar -- an honorable barnstar given to vandal fighters in recognition of their protective duties in protecting the encyclopedia. Think about the National Guard or something -- those guys must be pretty proud to be defending their country. Think of being a vandal fighter as the same thing. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 21:54, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
