FYI...NTimes

Hi Amakuru....I read this today and you may have seen it already but I thought you might be interested. Whispyhistory (talk) 09:10, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@Whispyhistory: thanks for the message and I hope you're well. I hadn't seen that article yet, and that's quite interesting - I wonder if anything will come of it. While in principle it would be lovely to have more editors working in the Rwanda space, particularly those from the country itself, I do feel a little trepidation about drives like this and what effect they might have on WP:NPOV in our articles. Many aspects of Rwandan history are incredibly controversial and difficult to navigate, and there's a tendency for some editors within the country itself to be overly supportive of the present regime while vigorously opposing inclusion of dissenting views from Human Rights Watch and others. So yes of course, as the article says, "it is important for Rwandans to tell their own story" but we need to take care that it is done in a way that's consistent with WP:V and WP:BALANCE. Cheers!  — Amakuru (talk) 19:54, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

1987 Cup Final FAC

Hello mate, I know we've chatted a bit about the current series of events, but I've decided to jack in FAC for the moment. It's obvious to anyone that my contributions in both nomination and review capacity are not welcome by one or two of the establishment and it's making me very unwell. I don't want to leave you in the lurch and I'm happy to work on stuff in the background if I can, but I can't participate at FAC for the time being. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 23:53, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: thanks for the note, and I'm sorry to see you go - it's been lot of fun collaborating on this and the 2018 L2 final and obviously our readers are benefitting from that too. I understand your decision though, I've felt frustrated with things here myself at times, and your mental wellbeing has to come first. Hopefully they'll allow me to continue with 1987 on my own for now, I think it will get there in the end... and do let me know if and when you make a return to that space so we can find another project to work on. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 09:08, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

A cupcake for you!

Thank you for supporting DYK :) Jirangmoon (talk) 09:53, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
@Jirangmoon: many thanks for the delicious cupcake, that is much appreciated. I do what I can at DYK, promoting and looking over the queues, but kudos has to go to many editors who devote much more of their time than I do to that project! All the best and happy editing  — Amakuru (talk) 19:56, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Quick Check

Hi Amakuru. Quick check -- I tried looking for COVID-19 pandemic* here. But, it does not appear in the drop down. Is that because of the replication delays etc? Or do you think it might have to do with the special character "*". Thoughts? Ktin (talk) 19:38, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

@Ktin: I think it's just because the page was only created today. To verify this I've just added another new page User:Amakuru/FooBar, and it behaves in the same way. Conversely, the redirect * algebra, which contains an asterisk, is recognised by the page: [1] So I think we should be fine. It will appear tomorrow or the day after. Cheers.  — Amakuru (talk) 19:44, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Amakuru, Cool. Thanks a ton Amakuru. Ktin (talk) 19:49, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK climate change articles

Thanks for notifying me but I cannot claim credit for Climate change in Kenya, as the one I have submitted for DYK is Climate change in Brazil.Chidgk1 (talk) 12:07, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

@Chidgk1: thanks for the message. Looking through the history it seems that the decision to credit you for the Kenyan one was made here by Eddie891, along with various other editors who've contributed to the page. I'm not sure the rationale for which editors were chosen, maybe Eddie can elaborate, but it looks like you did make various minor edits to the page back in December. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:22, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
Chipmunkdavis asked me to add the credits on the DYK talk page. I couldn’t—and still can’t— think of a reason not to. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 12:30, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
here is the diff— sorry I can’t get the perma-link, editing from mobile. Eddie891 Talk Work 12:31, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
@Eddie891: yeah, that makes sense. It's only fair that people who've made significant contributions get credited with the DYK. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:32, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

In friendship

Jerome Kohl was on the Main page today, thank you for prep promotion. - He is remembered in friendship. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:54, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: ah, that's fantastic. I should have spotted that he was one of our own when I was promoting the set to the queue. RIP to him and I'm glad we've been able to honour him this way. Maybe now a push up towards GA and FA, then he can get pride of place at the top of the main page for an entire day! Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 14:01, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
We had to work hard to even make the notability hurdle ;) - his wife might enjoy, though. - As I said (on my talk): hundreds of articles await deprecated parenthetical referencing to be transformed to sfn, - I did it for all works mentioned in the Stockhausen lead, which took all morning, because a bot couldn't do it, too complicated exceptions. Actually, to make one of the works GA and FA might be the even better tribute! He never cared about such trivia. - Easier: create new articles on performers, and mention the works, which I have done already at times. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:13, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK for 1987 FA Cup Final

On 30 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1987 FA Cup Final, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Coventry City's winning goal in the 1987 FA Cup Final was an own goal scored in extra time off Gary Mabbutt's knee? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1987 FA Cup Final. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 1987 FA Cup Final), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

— Maile (talk) 00:02, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: thanks for nominating this, I thought we'd missed the boat on this one, didn't notice that you'd done it! Good old Gary Mabbutt and his knee, everyone in Cov loves that.  — Amakuru (talk) 00:15, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Can you remove the file c:File:Протесты на Тверской улице.jpg from this page? This file need to be deleted. I can explain the details, if it necessary. --Brateevsky (talk to me) 12:06, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

@Brateevsky: OK, I've done that. I have no idea if the file should be deleted or not, but it's clearly no longer being used on the main page, so the protection wasn't necessary at this stage. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:12, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

TFA

While I understand removing a TFA with problems, and like birds, aren't two birds in two days a bit too much of a good thing? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:04, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: urggh I guess so, I didn't notice that unfortunately. I wanted to do one without any prejudice, which is why I picked one from exactly a year ago rather than any others from the past year that I could have picked . I'm tempted not to swap it again just to avoid too much drama, but you could raise your comment at WP:ERRORS and see if others agree if you feel strongly about it. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:09, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
... only I don't feel strongly about it ;) - fine with me, more birds, more songs, more peace anytime - I wish we had more FAs on peace treaties, instead of all these battles, seriously. I had one that at least mentioned peace (in German), Mit Fried und Freud ich fahr dahin, BWV 125, but only good on a 2 February, and appeared too recently to be repeated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:26, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: yes, I agree with you there are a lot of battles there. We're really at the mercy of what our editors decide to work on though, when it comes to TFA, and for whatever reason WP:MILHIST seems to have attracted an unusually focused and dedicated group of writers happy to churn out the wars, battles and skirmishes day-in-day-out. I'm trying to think what sort of "peace" themed articles might be good candidates. Some of them, like Arusha Accords (Rwanda) seem nice on the face of it, but actually it turns out the violence that came after the peace was even worse than what preceded the treaty so it ends up seeming rather depressing. Something like white poppy might work. And, as you say, there's plenty on the music side... Dona nobis pacem (Vaughan Williams) for example. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:37, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
in the end, Wikipedia:Main Page history/2021 February 4b is just perfect, matching the bird in the TFA with TFP of a pigeon (peace bird, no?) and the quirky hook about a pardoned pigeon ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:43, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

On a related subject ... but first, a big freaking disclaimer: it wasn't my job to weigh in on the suitability of TFA article selections or the people selecting them even before January, and ... there's no authority without responsibility, and I have no official TFA responsibilities at the moment, so no authority at all. Having said that: you and I have worked together a long time, and I just want you to know that I have no reservations or objections at all to the suggestion put forward today about you becoming a TFA coord. I have just a little more to say, but I'm waiting on a reply before I say it. - Dank (push to talk) 18:04, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

I think the raison d'etre of TFA needs to be defined before you jump into this Amakuru. If a reader fell upon WP:FA where they're told "Featured articles are considered to be some of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer..." and then saw what was TFA today (and to an extent, yesterday, pre-switch), I think they (i.e. the millions of people landing on the homepage) would be confused (or disappointed/dissuaded etc). The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 18:08, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Dank: thanks for the message and it's heartening to know that regulars such as yourself and Ealdgyth are would not oppose me for the role. In a related note another respected admin suggested me as a possible Arbcom person a couple of years ago and, although that's something I'm unlikely to go near for a long time, it's comforting to hear from my peers that they think my work might possible justify such positions. Anyway, although I do think the work at TFA would be rewarding and enjoyable, I'm unfortunately most likely not to apply at this point. I would be interested to hear what the actual time commitment is, though because I don't really have a feel for that at the moment... Also, as TRM says, I'd like to see the issues under discussion for TFA clarified. Speaking personally I'd be less keen to be involved if it consists of knowingly putting subpar articles up on the primary slot of the main page. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 10:55, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for considering it. I see Wehwalt has just posted at WT:TFA offering to talk about his suggestions for scheduling March, and of course the February schedule is up at WP:TFAA. It would be easier to deal with conflicts if people would talk about specific problems in specific articles. - Dank (push to talk) 13:46, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
It would be clearer if we all understood what the purpose of TFA really was. Why is that such a difficult question to answer? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 13:58, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I feel your pain, TRM ... I personally feel that you don't get enough credit for all you do. But on this subject ... I was an active TFA coord for six years, and maybe I could have helped with all this during that time (maybe not), but it didn't come up, and now I'm not an active coord. I don't want to shirk my responsibilities here, but at some point I have to decide whether I'm in or out, and at the moment, I'm out, so I'll leave it to others to work it out. - Dank (push to talk) 14:21, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Alright, but you're entitled to an opinion on the subject, so I'd be interested to hear what you think the purpose of TFA is (or even objectively what you looked for when co-ordinating it)... The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:32, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I'll think about it. - Dank (push to talk) 15:07, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Ok, I didn't think it was a difficult question. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 17:09, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I think that if people feel there's a genuine need to use the main page as a source for article improvement, then it would be better to do something like an extra section with a list of stubs in it, preferably on important topics, inviting people to get to work on them. Using an FA for that purpose doesn't seem sensible, as they're usually either (a) in good shape already, or (b) were once in good shape but now have fairly deep-seated structural or sourcing problems, none of which are easy pickings for someone looking to make an instant impact. I started tinkering with Cheadle Hulme yesterday, but realised it would be far more than a day's work to get it to a decent standard, so I stopped trying. Plus, I would imagine the majority of main page viewers are there to read the encyclopedia, not to edit it, and to keep their faith in us it's important to keep showcasing the best we have to offer in that slot.  — Amakuru (talk) 21:41, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Cricket FAs

Just thoroughly enjoying Sydney Riot of 1879 which is OTD in a couple of days but realised that this would never get to FA these days with the lop-sided application of MOSLINK. Imagine having to explain "throwing", "hat-trick", "Test", "overs", "stumps", "not out", "run out".... within each and every cricket article. Just imagine it!! And then when someone has crowbarred in a bunch of grim "summaries" of each of these terms, it becomes completely unreadable to precisely the predicted audience. Well done FAC. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 09:43, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Another glorious piece of cricket FA work at Van Diemen's Land v Port Phillip, 1851 going onto the main page at OTD in a couple of days. Just imagine what an insult it is to our readers, assuming they'll understand the indignity of being "caught at slip" or that there were "no boundaries to the pitch, so runs could be scored only by running between wickets, and not by hitting a boundary". The HUMANITY!! DELIST THIS MONSTROSITY! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 15:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man: - this is one of my favourites: Evans fell meekly, prodding a ball straight to Hassett at silly mid-on, prompting O'Reilly to deem Loxton "lucky to be on deck when the English tail were falling over themselves in their nervous speed to commit hara-kiri". Try making sense of that!  — Amakuru (talk) 15:45, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Well, being a previously but officially qualified cricket scorer, and a "learned member" of one of the oldest educational establishments in the world, I just look at that and say "nom nom nom". Alternatively we can offer up explanations and footnotes and so forth, thus completely destroying it. I know which camp I'm in. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Feb 7 Margate

Please see the note at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article#February 2021 Pending TFAs from "very old" or "old" Unreviewed FAs; Margate F.C. doesn't appear to have been updated since 2016, and it runs on the mainpage in just a few more hours. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:46, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

@SandyGeorgia: thanks for the heads up, I'll try to give some of those a look over tomorrow hopefully.  — Amakuru (talk) 21:44, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

A non-wiki related query for you... is this something that is actually going to happen? It's seems like a huge deal but I'm just learning about it. I have so many questions... why would the other countries agree to combine with Burundi and (???) South Sudan? Seems like a recipe for disaster; nothing against Burundi or South Sudan, but the political instability and poverty sounds like it would drag all of the other countries down with it–especially considering the other ones we're talking about are (afaik) in the upper tiers of wealth and stability in the context of Africa. Would all of the leaders keep their posts and rule collectively, or would they adopt a main leader in addition to or instead of? I'm just baffled, do you know anything about this? Aza24 (talk) 02:26, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@Aza24: thanks for the message, and that's a very interesting question. I don't have any special insight into what's going on with this, but from the evidence I've seen I'd say it's unlikely to materialise any time soon. They've been talking about taking the first step, establishing a common currency, for some years now - with a target date of 2024 - but I can't see even that happening right now. Many of the region's leaders are "strong men" with vested interests who wouldn't want to cede powers to anyone else. And even if there was a will on the part of politicians, your point above is correct - it's unlikely the people in the more stable prosperous nations such as Kenya and Tanzania would want to join forces with areas that have been warzones so recently. I have many friends from Kenya, and if you ask them what the East African Community is, they generally say "Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania" - many don't even really know that the extra countries are now on board. And their national identity is always to Kenya. On the Rwandan side, they are beset by periodic feuds with the governments of other EAC members, particularly Uganda and Burundi, closing the borders and suchlike. That's not the sort of premise on which a political union is likely to ever form! So in my opinion most likely this project is something they just pay lip service to, with no real intention to actually implement it... Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 10:23, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
The idea of a full federation is dead on arrival, but Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda have developed a joint tourist visa, so it's not all bad news. CMD (talk) 15:57, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@Chipmunkdavis: that's very true, although a few years back I attempted to procure one of those visas on arrival at Nairobi airport - because I was planning to visit Rwanda as well - and the guy just looked at me blankly, like he hadn't even heard of it! Perhaps it has become more streamlined since then though. Ironic if it's still valid for both Uganda and Rwanda, given that the Uganda-Rwanda border has been closed for almost two years now.  — Amakuru (talk) 17:08, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
All very interesting, thanks. I suspected as much, though it would be rather exciting were it to take place, even if its actual benefits would be a bit up in the air. I wasn't aware that Rwanda currently has conflicts with neighbors other than the DRC, I'll have to look into that! I understand your friends though, I myself would have assumed South Sudan is part of Northern Africa; I guess it's odd since it's emergence didn't change anything geographically, but the political change was enough for its supposed reclassification. Says something about our regional designations I suppose. Since we share an interest in African politics (though your knowledge is certainly more than mine, I'm rather new to the subject) I must tell you that I've found my self perplexed over Djibouti's mere existence... I mean, such a tiny country whose main ethnic groups are Somali or Afar—the vast majority of whom live in Ethiopia, albeit as a small minority—but no "Djiboutian"! Only in Africa... Queue 1

Please could you check Queue 1 as I both built it and moved it into the queue, a thing I should not have done. I also moved Queue 2, but that is OK, having been built by someone else. However, I built Prep 3 and Prep 4, so these will also need moving to the queue in due course by another admin. Yoninah is sorely missed, and I may concentrate on prep set building in her absence. We'll see if anyone else gets involved. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:06, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Cwmhiraeth: OK sure, I'll give queue 1 a look over. I'll also try to do 3 or 4 if I can find the time, depending which other admins step in. Agree with you re Yoninah, you realise how much valuable work someone was really putting in when they're gone. It seems that it's putting a lot of burden on the remaining prep builders, so I'll aim to be promoting a few more of the queues if you want to concentrate more fully on the prep building. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 09:18, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: I've finished checking queue 1. I pulled the picture hook The Thankful Poor, as it seems to be quite lacking in citations, and have replaced it with a hook from the approved nominations list, Template:Did you know nominations/A Ride for Liberty – The Fugitive Slaves. Please could you give that one a quick glance when you get a chance, just so that we have the necessary number or pairs of eyes on it! There are a couple of other minor issues that I've raised with individual editors on the talk pages, but hopefully those will be resolved before tomorrow to avoid me pulling those ones. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 10:57, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:15, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Unapproving approved noms

Hello Amakuru, I can't help but notice I created some extra work for you by unapproving the Thomas Ashburton Picken and Robert C. Pringle (indirectly) hooks. Should similar situations always result in the nominations being manually shifted back to the primary DYK nom page, even for minor issues? If so, should I do that as the unapprover? Thanks, CMD (talk) 15:01, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

@Chipmunkdavis: no worries re the extra work, and *as far as I know* that should be the procedure - the nom sits on the DYKNA page if and only if its most recent comment is an "approval" stamp. If someone raises a query or something after that, it should go back to the regular DYKN page. This helps prep builders know the status of everything as they go through it. Having said that though, I am not principally a prep builder - I only look at the DYKNA list when I need to do last-minute switches in the queues, as happened this time. So if you want a definite confirmation of the procedure then maybe check at WT:DYK or with one of the full-time prep builders. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 17:06, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Favour

Hello dude, hope all is well. Writing for a favour, long term project etc. As you probably know I have an unnatural interest in the glorious 'Tabs ongoing domination of a certain canoe race. After this year's amazing victory for us, I'll be nominating it as a "good topic", but to do that I need to overhaul the main article to something which could be a GA. Right now it's a mess. And it could use (a) some eyes from outside the wood/trees that I'm in and (b) some non-Cantab eyes, both in order to drag it into reality. The topic is a little wild, check out the draft here: User:The Rambling Man/The Boat Race. Anyway, it's no major rush. It would be tops if I could get it to a good topic candidate after this year's race, but whatev's. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 23:53, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: thanks for the note, and I'll definitely help out with reviewing or writing some stuff for that as you require. I guess the challenge is how to structure the history section so that it's not just a series of talking points from individual years, but more like the overall narrative. Someone criticised by History of Coventry City F.C. page along those lines, saying that in particular recent years were more just season summaries. I'm not particularly a boatie person myself - turning up on the river at 6am in freezing cold conditions before having to troop to lectures at 9am wasn't really my thing - but I understand the basics of the sport, and I did also count the late Olympic medallist Acer Nethercott among my personal friends!  — Amakuru (talk) 14:52, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Inquiry regarding possible conspiracy theory surrounding Assassination of Juvénal Habyarimana

Hello Amakuru. I wrote the article on Imran Kombe, a Tanzanian general who served as Director of the Tanzania Intelligence and Security Service from 1983 to 1995. In some reports I'm finding it stated that he tipped off President Moi of Kenya about a possible assassination plan against Juvénal Habyarimana on April 6 1994 at the East African regional summit occurring in Dar es Salaam. The claim seems to emanate from Wayne Madsen's book, Genocide and Covert Operations in Africa, 1993-1999 (see here). Madsen is a conspiracy theorist, so I am loathe to consider his assertions of any value. But seeing as you know something about the Rwandan Civil War, can you tell me if the claim holds any water? -Indy beetle (talk) 04:50, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

@Indy beetle: thanks for the note, and I can't say I've ever heard of this theory before. Who are the alleged culprits for this plot then? Is it the United States? The only two theories for Habyarimana's death that I've seen in sources, are those detailed in Paul Kagame and elsewhere - that (a) the Hutu extremists were responsible, as indeed they had said many times prior to the killing, or (b) that it was the RPF who assassinated him. In neither case have I ever heard that Moi or Mobutu were involved, and I think even Cyprien Ntaryamira was not intended as a target, it was just bad luck that he shared Habyarimana's plane. Gerald Caplan makes no mention of this in his recent paper on the genocide: [2]. So I'd say most likely this is a WP:FRINGE theory that doesn't merit inclusion in our pages, but do let me know if you discover anything else about it. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:25, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Picture of the day

Because there is rather a large backlog of featured pictures of banknotes (many of them US) and coins, I have been scheduling them in alternate months. January was Danzig banknotes, February was a coin month and March will be a banknote month. I've chosen Template:POTD/2021-03-12, which is a set of US fractional currency with five issues and a total of twenty images. There is little to distinguish the different issues, so I'm just checking with you that twenty images on the same day is OK. I wasn't proposing to write about each image individually, but was intending to provide the facility to view a random image and click through to any of the others at choice. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:55, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Cwmhiraeth and thanks for the note. I think it's fine to set these up as a set - I recall facing similar issues when I was doing POTD, that there are so many large sets of things like coins, notes and stamps; it would become rather dull if we had to schedule them all individually! It looks like a "fractional currency" set has run before actually, at Template:POTD/2019-10-10. If you need a template for how to set up the "random access" collection then check that one out. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:03, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Could you take a look at the DYK for Molly please. At the moment its just hanging. I'm happy to go without an image if required but it does need to be resolved. (Sorry I forgot where we were having this discussion) Victuallers (talk) 17:01, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day!

@CAPTAIN RAJU: many thanks for the greeting, much appreciated. It's 15 years now I guess, where does the time go!  — Amakuru (talk) 14:39, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

I strenuously object in the strongest terms....

... to your recent Kigali success. I mean, I'm reading a sentence full of links like "Kigali is in a granitic and metasedimentary region, with lateritic soils on the hills and alluvial soils in the valleys." and thinking, HOW DID THIS GET PAST THE LATEST MOS THINKING?????? I guess it depends "who" is doing the FAC...! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:26, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: ha ha, what were the reviewers thinking?!  — Amakuru (talk) 14:30, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Perhaps they all used their common sense? Who knows. You can get on to that pesky 87 cup final nomination now, but I'm looking forward to the torpedo review(s) incoming, perhaps I should remove my name from the co-nom... The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:33, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man:Who knows, mate... Perhaps we can move on from that fiasco and get back to the usual status quo where specialist language doesn't have to be spelled out in full. Here's hoping. I'll look at the 1987 stuff as soon as I get the chance (alongside that pesky Kagame FAR too), although hopefully it won't be promoted in the next two days as there are cup points for the next round at stake! Need something to take the mind off the disappointing goings on in the cricket today.  — Amakuru (talk) 14:36, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
I don't think so, sadly, it's broken for certain types of article nowadays. It's happening again at another FAC as we speak... Cricket? Meh. Ipswich won a game last night, who cares about the team that were out are in and the team that were in are all out etc etc etc....! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:39, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
I heard they were caught at silly mid off...  — Amakuru (talk) 14:46, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Damn, that Kigali FAC has netted me 600 Wikicup points. I should have held it back for much later in the competition rather than the round where seemingly everyone with 5+ points goes through. I guess it's the sort of article that every language would have... I'm a first-time noob.  — Amakuru (talk) 18:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Promotion of Kigali

Congratulations, Amakuru! The article you nominated, Kigali, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:06, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for suggestions to The Thankful Poor

Thank you for your call for ILCs in The Thankful Poor's DYK nomination. If it were not for your last-minute review, I likely would never have bothered referencing/expanding the article to the Good Article status it reached today. GeneralPoxter (talk) 02:24, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

@GeneralPoxter: ah, that's excellent then and congratulations on the GA. 🎉🎊 I usually feel bad about having to pull people's hooks at the last minute, so it makes me glad if it was actually useful in this case! Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 08:10, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Can you help solve a mystery?

Hi Amakuru. First thanks for your work for the wiki and DYK - your talk page looks impressive. I was looking at my own page and wondering why I had'nt seen any DYK templates for recent nominations I've made. I went to investigate and found that Molly Clutton-Brock had been promoted on the 24th Feb. So I'd expect a notice on my talk page, but no big deal cos I know the bots can be mutinous at times. However I then went to look at how many times the article had been viewed and its very very low. I would have expected to see a one day spike of clicks for its DYK appearance.... but no. I noticed that you had done the main page promotion and wondered if you might care to offer a theory as to why it failed to appear? Cheers Victuallers (talk) 10:58, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

@Victuallers: thanks for the message and your kind words. Re the DYK templates, there are a number of stages in the process; these are: nomination (by you), approval (the most recent of which was by No Swan So Fine in this case), promotion to a prep area (which I did on the 24th), then promotion to a queue by an admin (this was done by Gatoclass on the 27 February) and then eventually the actual appearance on the main page. The DYK appearance notification on your user talk page is performed by a bot and appears at the time when it appears on the main page. The Molly Clutton-Brock hook is currently in Queue 2, and is scheduled to appear on 3 March at 12:00 UTC, so you should hopefully get your talk page notice then! Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:07, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh thanks that solves it - I was just being impatient. Thank you. Molly isn't dead after all. Victuallers (talk) 11:38, 1 March 2021 (UTC) PS When I first got involved in DYK one person used to just review the hooks put them in a pile and then post them en masse to the main page Victuallers (talk) 11:41, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 March newsletter

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Scotland ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
  • Rwanda Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
  • Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
  • Botswana The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
  • Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
  • Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
  • United States Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
  • England Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 (talk) and Cwmhiraeth (talk). Aston

I just saw you !voted to oppose the RM at Aston. With all due respect, you had the opportunity to participate when the request was open. It feels like you blocked the technical move because it didn't go the way you wanted to vote. I think you should have abstained from !voting after contesting the technical move request. Vpab15 (talk) 23:12, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

@Vpab15: I left a note on your talk page requesting for you to reopen the RM because I disagreed with the move. And you kindly went ahead and agreed to reopen that. I then repeated my comment to you in the reopened RM. I'm not sure what you're concerned about here? It was always my intention to object to the move, because I believe it to be incorrect. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 23:16, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
It just felt you were trying to overturn the close because that's not the outcome you would have liked. The point at which you are supposed to give your opinion is while the RM is open. When I closed it, there were five editors supporting the move and only two opposing. A technical move request is just a formality, unless there is some blatant violation of policy or it clearly goes against the consensus in the discussion, neither of which was the case. March flowers

Today: Carmen for TFA (on my request), with Bizet's music "expressing the emotions and suffering of his characters" as Brian worded it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:34, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: thanks for the note, and excellent to see the great Carmen at TFA, and another fitting tribute to the great Brian. Thanks for the lovely March flowers too. We have some daffodils coming through here, but unfortunately I haven't yet photographed them and it's now cold and dark and horrible outside... so here's a nice view on a walk I did a few days ago at One Tree Hill in the sunshine!  — Amakuru (talk) 17:42, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
today (IWD): MMMM with a reference to Carmen again ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:30, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
... and today Bach's cantata composed for today, - perhaps listen. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:36, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: ah thanks, I will definitely have a listen to that later. Spring is starting to make itself felt just a little bit here... some sunny days, but a fair bit of rain as well. The trees are blossoming which is very nice!  — Amakuru (talk) 17:28, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
music blossoming and Yoninah's obituary with the beginning of Passover --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:43, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: ooh, I had totally missed the sad news of Yoninah's death. Like yourself I feared something bad might have happened when she stopped editing in January, but I hoped for the best that she would be back among us. It would be interesting to learn more about her real-life work and activities, but I can obviously understand why that information was swiftly removed. She will be greatly missed on the project. On a more positive note, we have some glorious spring sunshine here today so I will try to enjoy that as much as possible today! Wishing you well.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:16, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, the obituary is not hard to find, just ask google for the first terms on her user page. It is one of the most moving testimonials I've ever read, and why we have to suppress such a thing I'll not understand. You can also check out what I wrote on her user talk, - look for angels. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:35, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Problematic edits

Hi Amakura, can you take a glance at the edits of Traineek? It seems to be a series of poorly sourced, extreme POV pushing edits... [3] [4] [5] Aza24 (talk) 03:41, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

I will note that they have all been reverted; I'm only bringing this to your attention in case there is a block needed or something—I would be surprised if this editors ceases changes along the same lines. Aza24 (talk) 03:47, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
@Aza24: thanks for the note. They seem to have stopped disruptive editing for now, but let me know if you want me to look at anything going forward. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 09:21, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Amakuru; it appears the editor has just now reverted back to their edits on the Great Wall of China page, despite already being reverted by five people (and warned on both their and the article talk page). I've just reverted them back and tried to explain the edit summary, though I'm not sure if this will work. Aza24 (talk) 19:49, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
And they've reverted again... Aza24 (talk) 04:04, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Nomination of Denham Golf Club for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Denham Golf Club is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Denham Golf Club until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 23:14, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Notice

The article Eccleston Park has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article is unsourced, and is functionally just a neighbourhood of the larger Eccleston area. Looking for any notability and I cannot find anything significant that would require it to have its own stub article in order to expand this.

Any content if it isn't mentioned at Eccleston already could be easily merged, although I don't think there is.

Article was initially created as a redirect to the Eccleston Park Train Station. Alternative is that this is just re-directed to Eccleston main article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Request for hook swap in Queue 6

Please see the conversation at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Request expedited review in order to feature an opera on its 50th anniversary on the main page. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.4meter4 (talk) 14:36, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

@4meter4:  Done no problem, I have promoted it to queue 6 just now. I have made a slight wording tweak, from "critical flop" to "poorly received by critics", which is what the article says, I hope that's OK - it seemed somewhat more encyclopedic in tone! A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
I was just going to French wiki to read the article on Kigali and was very pleasantly surprised to see a featured article on here for an African capital city. A hearty congratulations from the artist formerly known as Dr. B! Thankyou! Keep up the great work!! † Encyclopædius 11:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

I would add that when I think of "pillar" articles to get up to good status on here, capital cities and regions of developing world counties are as core as you can get. In fact I was considering running a contest aimed at getting core articles on capital cities and regions etc up to GA status.† Encyclopædius 11:52, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

@Encyclopædius: many thanks for the Barnstar, that's much appreciated. And I fully agree with you about core topics - much as it's fun to write things like 2017 EFL Trophy Final, when I think about my "legacy" on Wikipedia, it'll be the topics like Rwanda and Kigali which will be of most benefit to readers. A new competition focused on core topics would be great - there used to be something like that at WP:Core contest, but I think it's lapsed of late. I was also pleasantly surprised when the Kigali FAC netted me a full 600 points in the first round of the WP:WIKICUP this year, although I kind of also think I wasted that a bit as it seems it doesn't really get competitive until later in the year. I really need to find a new core topic to focus on now... Maybe Bujumbura, as a sort of sister city to Kigali and with a not dissimilar history. Kenya has been vaguely on my radar as something I might tackle, but that would not be a trivial undertaking!  — Amakuru (talk) 12:16, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Ooo yes, Bujumbura would be perfect. Go for it! † Encyclopædius 12:23, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Relisting of WeatherTech SportsCar Championship move discussion

Hi. May I ask why this was relisted? I felt a consensus had been reached. GhostOfDanGurney (talk) 15:04, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

@GhostOfDanGurney: apologies, I had thought there was still some outstanding dispute there. But in fact I don't support the consensus reached myself - we should be removing the sponsor name as part of this RM. So I have withdrawn the relist, but I have also opposed the proposed change and suggested a different one. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 17:52, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Welsh Senedd 2021 Election concern

Not sure if you can help, but a user by the name of Inset Days has been posting pro-Abolish The Welsh Assembly content and been removing UKIP columns from the wikipedia page. He seems to be a main contributer on the Abolish the Welsh Assembly wikipedia page and recently we had a dispute over content that I attempted to add. He has obvious leanings, but seems to be taking direct action against UKIP content now (claiming that one candidate means that the whole column should be removed.) Any chance of a review? I saw you last locked the page due to an editing war and was hopeful you could do something. Many thanks. (talk) 19:00, 13 march 2021 (UTC)

Hi MrGentlemens. The reason I moved (and did not remove) the UKIP constituency candidate was because I feel that it would be unnecessary to have a whole column for a party's candidates when they only have a single candidate in one constituency. It would be much better to just put this candidate in the 'others and independents' column, while making clear they're a UKIP candidate, especially as the constituency candidate table is already big enough already. That doesn't mean you can't add a new column later if/when they announce more candidates, its just that it would be best at the moment to not make the table unnecessarily big and cumbersome by adding an almost entirely blank new column. Also, I am not a main contributor on the Abolish the Welsh Assembly page, I only started editing there a few days ago. I'm also not particularly a supporter of the party, I just felt that updated information should be added about them in the upcoming election. Inset Days (talk) 19:21, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Kigali scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Kigali article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 18, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 18, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 14:34, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@The Rambling Man: he he, are you officially back from your FAC exile now then? Yes, I'll be happy to go up as co-nom on that. I'm starting to have half an eye on where I can get WikiCup points now, as unlike yourself it may not be easy to breeze through rounds 3 and 4! But if we keep them ticking along it's all good anyway. I guess it's on to the 1987 Charity Shield game after that, going by your "Coventry Appreciation Society" list on your talk page. Plus there's the final game of the 1976-77 season, which I enquired about here - a 2-2 draw which knocked Sunderland out of the top flight. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 14:17, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm happy to work on anything. WikiCup is interesting and fun but I'm just doing what I can and what I like to make the areas of Wikipedia that interest me better. The FAC "all-star brigade" may think they know me better than I do, but they're wrong. Did you have any other offline sources for Sutton v Cov before I nom? The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:47, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@The Rambling Man: Yes, very true. I'll have a check a bit later on re the sources - I think there was something in the Jim Brown book about Cov going on a bit of a good run immediately after the match and even being considered a "dark horse for the championship" at one point before slumping horribly. I'll add that to the aftermath if so, plus anything else I find. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 14:53, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok, cool. I'll just get it started and in the glacial way FACs go these days, you'll have plenty of time to make minor adjustments when you can. Charity Shield you say? 1987 you say?? Dem's da moovez. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 14:59, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Prep clear

Hi Amakuru: When you promoted DYK Prep 1 to Queue 1, it doesn't appear to have properly cleared out Prep 1; there's a duplicate copy of all the hooks still sitting in Prep 1. Shall I clear them out by hand, or do you admins have some speedier way to do it? MeegsC (talk) 11:46, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Actually, Prep 7 didn't clear either; it's duplicated in the queue. MeegsC (talk) 11:56, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
@MeegsC: thanks for the heads up, I've gone ahead and cleared the preps now, as well as updating the Template:Did you know/Queue/NextPrep so that the queues appear in the correct order. There isn't any special admin process for it, but it was supposed to be my job to do it, I just forgot on this occasion! Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:25, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt: thanks once again for the ping, and congratulations on your second TFA for this year's Easter. As we remember those who've been involved with fantastic articles such as that linked, who are no longer with us. Regards  — Amakuru (talk) 16:36, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
On this day in 1742, He was despised was performed for the first time, and when I wrote it in 2012, I didn't only think of Jesus. Andreas Scholl sang that for us, - you are invited to a Baroque stroll. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:24, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Today: an article about music significant in my life, Bach's motet Jesu, mein Freude, with a long way from the start in 2006 to the Main page today ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:48, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Today: thank you for Kigali, "about the capital city of Rwanda, Kigali, my home for a few years in the mid-2000s. Founded by the German explorer and governor, Richard Kandt, it became capital on Rwandan independence in 1962. It has grown rapidly since the 1990-94 civil war and genocide and is now home to lots of shiny new buildings, making it fairly unrecognisable even compared to when I lived there!"! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:27, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: many thanks for your kind note. I had actually forgotten that today is the day! Always a good feeling to see my work on the front page.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:01, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
I know the feeling. Yesterday, I went with the news, guess what, almost 13k views for Psalm 104. Too bad most of them saw a not very advanced stage of it, because I was outside (beautiful!), and when I returned had to first fight a deletion suggestion for it's composer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:09, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Sutton United 2–1 Coventry City (1989)

On 5 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sutton United 2–1 Coventry City (1989), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a team including bricklayers, assistant bank managers and insurance clerks defeated Coventry City in the third round of the FA Cup in 1989? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sutton United 2–1 Coventry City (1989). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sutton United 2–1 Coventry City (1989)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sussex Drive

I'm just seeing when you're going to post your query about the Sussex Drive hook. I hope that I'm not coming across as rude - I just want to see about getting whatever issue it is resolved as soon as possible. SL93 (talk) 01:22, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

@SL93: apologies, I never got around to doing this. I have now raised the query at WT:DYK. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 12:20, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for reopening the discussion. I appreciate how helpful you have been in the DYK process. SL93 (talk) 23:46, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
@SL93: you're welcome, and thanks for the note of appreciation. I guess I'm one of the people landed with the last minute quibbles and probably annoying everyone by querying Hooks. Although compared to yourself, I think I have something of a minor role here... The amount of work you've been putting into the DYK project since the sad loss of Yoninah is amazing. We're definitely lucky to have you.  — Amakuru (talk) 23:59, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. SL93 (talk) 00:02, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Rose's Guinness World Record

Hello.

There seems to have been a bit of a very heavy-handed misunderstanding at the centre of this.

How You Like That had topped the World Charts, but the Global 200 didn't officially exist at the time, as How You Like That came out in July while the Global 200 came out in September. This was widely reported as being Blackpink's only global number 1 in their history, however, as we now use the Global 200 as the official chart, there is that confusion.

Lovesick Girls, of note, didn't top the Global 200 - it only topped the Global Excluding US 200, so it is a bit confusing why Guinness decided that that was good enough.

My edits, nonetheless, were trying to provide greater accuracy in the Rose (singer) article. I am perfectly happy with that extra detail not being included, especially as, as seems to be the case, there is some uncertainty as to whether Guinness were referring to How You Like That or Lovesick Girls.

The point I was making, though, was that Paper9oll had, for the 15th time with me, reverted something that was actually accurate, whilst falsely accusing me of disruptive editing. There was nothing remotely disruptive with what I wrote, and falsely accusing me of disruptive editing (now enforced with a permanent ban on editing the article) is extraordinary.

I think that a more appropriate response from Paper9oll, rather than an immediate reversion, would have been to discuss it. Of note, he broke WP:3RR four times with reverting my edits, each and every one of which was later included.

My comments in the talk page were aimed at getting a consensus.

As it seems that the consensus now is to include Lovesick Girls instead of How You Like that, I am happy to go with that.

My aim was greater accuracy in the article.

Of note - I wasn't insisting it was included. I only added it once, and then clarified it. It is Paper9oll who was insisting that I wasn't allowed to write anything.

I wrote a message on Paper9oll's talk page to ask him to stop harassing me. His response was that he was allowed to stalk me, and allowed to harass me, and he then went to AN/I to make a complaint of "false accusations".

All I asked was for him to stop reverting me without checking his facts.

I know that he prides himself on being a Recent Changes Patroller and he has admitted to having a Watch alert on my page (and presumably several others), but, as I have a history of 0 non-constructive edits, I don't think it is remotely warranted, and I have checked his edits and he gets it wrong a lot with a lot of editors, who he regularly warns for no good reason.

My suggestion is for him to calm down.

Of note, I don't think that the article ban against me editing Rose (singer) is remotely warranted. I made about 40 article edits on that article, every one of which is still in the article, and they were most certainly constructive. I don't think we can say the same thing for Paper9oll.

I request for the article ban against me to be revoked, and I reiterate my request for Paper9oll to kindly stop stalking and harassing me. Skb7 (talk) 10:28, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

@Skb7: thanks for your message, and if you say your edit was made in good faith then I won't dispute that. But once it was reverted and it was pointed out clearly that the source doesn't support what you said, there was no reason to reinstate the change. And still less reason to then go posting everywhere that Paper9oll was stalking you, even though it's clear you both write in the same topic areas. Re "uncertainty as to whether Guinness were referring to How You Like That or Lovesick Girls" that just isn't the case. The source says, in black and white, that the record in question pertains to Lovesick Girls. So even if you believe you have better information, the key point is WP:Verifiability not truth, and WP:No original research. So Paper9oll's revert was completely correct, and my advice to you at WP:AN/I stands. Back away from this, move on, edit something else, and stop posting about Rosé and Paper9oll. Otherwise you're risking harsher sanctions. As for the block from the page, it's ultimately up to Black Kite as the blocking admin whether they want to unblock you. But personally I wouldn't recommend it at this point, until you can demonstrate that you've moved on from this. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 10:46, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

In other words, abusive people like Paper9oll can do whatever they like, stalking is perfectly fine, harassment and false claims and lies and abuse are all wonderful and lovely, but daring to suggest that it should stop is BAD! This is disgusting.Skb7 (talk) 01:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
