Leaving notes - caution[edit]

I see you leaving notes around the place canvassing for some action and I am a little concerned by your actions. Please note; what I can or cannot see has no relevance to wikipedia - you must provide references for adding the type of material you and the other editors are describing at Belle Taylor's page. Clear and reliable third party references. You cannot add gossip style material. I want you to enjoy your editing at wikipedia but do so with a full understanding of our guidelines etc and that is why I have place a welcome banner with live links on your page. Please spend some time reading through those links.--VirtualSteve need admin support? 22:04, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Precisely. You left a note on my talkpage, directing me to Sunshine's talkpage, where you were agreeing with him adding unsourced information. This is a problem, as it seems to encourage users to add things without citations as long as they "think they're true". In the past, this mentality has resulted in scientific articles being replaced with scripture. It's especially serious when people add unsourced material to articles about living (or recently living) people, as unsubstantiated comments going to character or deeds can be viewed as libel, and wikipedia could be SUED by these people (or their estate). You can read more about this specifically at WP:BLP (which stands for Biography of Living Persons).
Once again, completely separate from whether you think something is true (and honestly, it's not even a consideration), additions to articles MUST BE SOURCED. --King ÖÖmie III 13:40, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, maybe you saw my note above.

Wikipedia is not facebook. This is not a place to meet new people. We're here to create an encyclopedia, and if you don't intend to edit articles, you may be blocked. So far 100% of your edits are in User Talk space and, as you said, you've never actually edited articles.

And on another note, despite your opinion here, this user is in the wrong for adding information about someone without a reliable source. --King ÖÖmie III 13:04, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation[edit]

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there!
