Steelers Uniform

Hello, I see that you have been making uniform templates for football teams such as the browns, chargers, and Cowboys. You make good jersey templates, so I was wondering if you could make one for the Steelers. The current jersey template for the Steelers is really bad, and simple. @Corkythehornetfan: Here's how I've created these National Football League (NFL) team uniforms: First, I've downloaded all 32 NFL team logo slicks from NFLCommunications.com. Second, I then use the "take a snapshot" feature in Adobe Reader to copy and paste the uniform from the logo slick. Third, I paste the uniform templates into a blank Microsoft Paint page and add designations for the uniforms. It's as simple as that. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 01:18, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll start with that once I get my computer back next week. lol. the only time there would be a copyright problem is if the logo on the helmet is non-free (ex. Seattle Seahawks). If that is the case, then you can upload the uniform to Wikipedia here... the only issue with that is that it can only be used in the main article and no season articles. Thanks again! @ANTbook365: I know, but I had to take them down, because each image failed to meet the non-free criteria at Wikimedia Commons (which is where I had uploaded them through). I don't own any of the NFL team uniforms I had uploaded through Wikimedia Commons, and because they failed to meet the non-free criteria there, I had to take them down and have them deleted. Hopefully, another editor will re-upload them through Wikipedia using the {{Non-free sports uniform}} template. I suggest sending Corkythehornetfan a message. Just upload them to Wikipedia using the File Upload Wizard and tag them with the {{Non-free sports uniform}} license. Wikimedia Commons is for Public Domain files only. Wikipedia is for Non-free files. The uniforms can be uploaded on this site, just not Commons. I have no interest in uploading them myself, so I am leaving them up to you guys. Atlanta Hawks/Buffalo Bisons

I am reinserting the content you removed regarding the establishment of the Atlanta Hawks as the Buffalo Bisons in 1946. In your edit summary, you call for "official proof," seemingly some official acknowledgement by the Hawks organization of being in Buffalo. In other words, you are calling for a non-independent primary source. Wikipedia prefers reliable independent, secondary sources (see WP:SOURCE) to primary sources. Just because the Hawks organization does not acknowledge their establishment in Buffalo does negate the fact that the club was, in fact, established in Buffalo. According to Wikipedia standards, this fact is verifiable, based upon the preponderance of reliable independent, secondary sources, some of which date back to the 1940s. Although, if you do want a more "official" source, see this entry on Pop Gates at the Naismith Hall of fame website, which explicitly references the Buffalo and Tri-Cities franchise together. schetm (talk) 16:18, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

It appears to be one of those finer details in the history that is so brief, the team and league either overlooked it or just ignore it for simplicity. As I mentioned on Talk:Atlanta Hawks#Buffalo Bisons, the 1946–47 Season standings at basketball-reference.com has a footnote for the Blackhawks that says "Started the season as the Buffalo Bisons before moving to Moline, IL." The Hawks only played in Buffalo for 13 games before moving, so I can see why the team and the league don't include that. The franchise history page from the Atlanta Hawks, while fairly extensive, isn't all that detailed about the origins of the team. It just says "The Tri-Cities Blackhawks joined the National Basketball League in the 1946-47 season..." --JonRidinger (talk) 23:50, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

GT Templates

I noticed you have been changing the colors on the GT templates. However, the GT templates are currently not consistent with regards to the color scheme. Several templates have the new color scheme and others still have the old color scheme. My main concern has always been keeping the color scheme consistent for all GT templates. If you are going to change the color scheme on GT templates please change the color scheme on all GT Templates. Otherwise the changes that you recently made will be reverted to maintain consistency. @PalmerTheGolfer: My source is from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). It's found here. I know the numbers from NARA are off. What I did was I just added the numbers in the results by state sections for all candidates linearly. Send me another message if you have any other complaints or ideas. At the risk of repeating myself, all I was trying to do was linearly add up the numbers from the Secretary of State sources for all candidates, so that it would make sense. NCAA in the module

I'm gonna strongly disagree with this edit. Do you have access into the website? This is why I didn't include it when I added conferences, plus there isn't a brand guide made public. The only reason I added the conferences I did was because they have a brand guide. Different files on the NCAA website show different colors, although it should be Pantone 300. I'm not comfortable enough to to place this here yet as we've clearly debated this several times by continuously changing the colors... Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 01:00, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: Yes, I have applied for and gained access to the NCAA Digital Library website. Should you also apply for and gain access to that website, the file you would probably be looking for is titled "2016-2017_Champ_StyleGuide.pdf". That file spells out the Pantone colors, which are Pantone 300, 295C, and 428C. I cross-referenced the colors for Pantone 300C, which turn out to be  #005EB8  (the source is found here). Piping

Believe it or not, in instances like Alexander Memorial Coliseum, you don't need to go through and pipe the current name in the wikilink. I ran into this issue a little while ago and basically, it prevents editors from having to go back every time a facility changes names, plus there's nothing in the MOS that forbids redirects. So, whatever the name is at the time an event took place (or in this case, when the team used the facility), that's the link we should use, even if it's not the current name. See WP:NOTBROKEN. Iowa State

They have an updated brand guide for athletics, which was already in the module. Your reference is from 2007, as dated on the source. The browser date means nothing. I think you need to be a lot more careful and put some thought into your edits. Some of them have not made sense. Some thrm fail WP:CONTRAST (Virginia), and some of them are going to an outdated source/colors (Iowa State). Hell, I think it's pretty damn clear based of the website itself that they've gone darker. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but the reference I provided at least has a .iastate.edu domain, even if it is outdated. I also tried looking at Iowa State's Trademark Office website to find athletic branding. I didn't find anything there, but it does say the school colors are "Cardinal Red and Cyclone Gold". By typing Iowa State Cyclones art sheet on google search. Why doesn't it "look official"? CSTV.com (owned by Learfield Sports) was a common domain name for Division I schools; grfx.cstv.com is a popular sub page for graphics (hence grfx) for a schoool if they partner with the company Leirfield Sports. A few years back, a majority of the schools domain name was [currentdomainname].cstv.com (example: dupanthers.cstv.com now its dupanthers.com). Some still use that website for their graphics... this will show some schools that use it for their media guides. Just because it doesn't have the school's domain name doesn't mean it "isn't official ". They have flipped the colors now; "Cardinal Red" in yours is now the alternate color, and "Cyclone Gold" remains the same. The Big 12's guide was also made three years ago when they rebranded, way before the link I've provided was made. Just look at www.cyclones.com... The website uses a darker red, for the teams use a darker red for their uniforms, and the list can go on. The Whitecaps colours are primarily white. Making them primarily blue is not appropriate. If you want to fix something, make main sections of Template:Vancouver Whitecaps FC match the other two, not the other way around. The secondary blue is appropriate. The dark blue background is not. (edit conflict) The changes look good. Thanks. I'm presently wearing the jersey and it's quite white. The primary colour after that is sea blue and then "deep sea" blue and then "Whitecaps Blue". the "rain" jersey is the one they wear for most matches, including away matches. They do wear the others, but white is the primary one. Search Google images and Google news.

I'm well aware of their colors, but as I've mentioned before, in general, we need to go by their media guides, not NCAA.com. The media guides are a more reliable source as the school chooses their color names; the NCAA doesn't. Thus, NCAA.com may be wrong as they don't update the Ncaa.com/schools website very often. One example is my school, Emporia State. We haven't used "Old Gold" since 2011. A new president started in January 2012 and did not like "Old Gold" so we changed it to "Gold". It was a branding issue, and we've stuck with "Gold" ever since. NCAA is wrong and hasn't updated their page. This is why we use the school website and media guides before NCAA.com. My point is that all of these media guide references from Ole Miss state that the official colors for the school are Cardinal Red and Navy Blue (in that order). I had already reverted my reverts of yours before you posted this. I will only agree to use them in the Red/Blue order IF the background stays Navy Blue. They are more known for the Navy Blue as their background color than Cardinal. My cousin who goes to school their even said Navy Blue is the primary (and more common) background color. How did you get the colors listed in this edit? The source you've provided only lists the Pantone numbers which is the same as the University Brand Guide. Sometimes, the colors look different due to the different programs used on websites. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but saying it's "per abc.com" and they don't list a hex code is sort of questionable. Even the Pantone.com websites don't match your changes, nor does my DigitalColor Meter (which will vary for the Meter due to different programs). It is close to the CMYK codes provided in the brand guide for the University, but they still don't match. I wonder if we should contact the athletics department? Under the COLOR PALETTE heading (sic), right-click on the color (under PRIMARY COLORS) and select 'Inspect Element' (Microsoft Edge) or 'Inspect Element (Q)' (Firefox) to find out the hex code. Being an "official" source means it's a primary source. Wikipedia policy discourage their use in favour of reliable, secondary sources. The "official" source adds nothing that the other sources already state, Plus, your stance that a specific source must not be removed, despite this, seems to be a violation of the notion that you do not "own" articles. According to Boise State's Logo Art Sheet and Boise State's Brand Standards, the Pantone colors for the institution and its athletic department are the same: PMS 286 for blue ( #0039A6 ) and PMS 172 for orange ( #F9461C ). However, this URL spells out the digital HEX color codes, so that's what I decided to use to represent Boise State at Module:College color/data. @Corkythehornetfan: I know that the CMYK color values are what is listed in that PDF; however, I strongly recommend looking at Boise State's Logo Art Sheet a little closer. There are 2 pages in that reference (one each for athletics and academics). If you do, you'll notice that the Pantone colors for both athletics and academics are the exact same. I still disagree with that. It is not a good representation of Boise State's colors. Let's wait until we can get a response from them this week. We don't need to be using other schools' colors unless it is confirmed by Boise State themselves. The CMYK nor the RGB codes match Pantone's codes. @NeilN and Bagumba: First, I sincerely apologize for my incivility. It was wrong of me to use profane language toward another editor (in this case, ViperSnake151). I have apologized to them for that. I was clearly experiencing a temper meltdown. I should not have resorted to personal attacks; instead, what I should have done is taken my grievances to the Vegas Golden Knights talk page. I also should have attempted to initiate a civil discussion there with the help of other editors not involved in the dispute in hopes of reaching consensus regarding my proposed added sources. I should not have attempted to unilaterally re-insert the URL sources I wanted included in the main Vegas Golden Knights article. I personally failed to read the community guidelines, and I'm sorry. That is a failing of mine. I promise to do better. Second, the reason why I had been placing "do not remove" comments in articles is because I simply wanted to ensure that the sources I added would remain in the articles I had edited. I failed to read the Manual of Style. I understand now why other editors thought I was trying to claim ownership of every article I did that for. It was wrong of me to do that. I understand better that "work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used and redistributed–by anyone." There is no justification for me trying to place "do not remove" comments in the articles I had edited, and I will learn from that by not doing it again in the future. Images on Commons

Charles, I am going to ask you to go through your uploads on Commons and make some changes. You are not the author of the images, nor are you the owner. I first noticed this when you uploaded File:Utah Jazz wordmark logo.png, which is a raster duplication of File:Utah Jazz logo (2016).svg and a non-free image that should not appear on Commons. I've tagged it for deletion. I noticed you've also uploaded various uniforms, as well. NFL uniforms that you've uploaded should be uploaded to Wikipedia as a {{Non-free sports uniform}} because you did not create them yourself and you retrieved them from NFLCommunications.com. The only changes you may have made is the color (which still does not make you the author or owner). Thus, a majority of the logos on the helmets and uniforms themselves are non-free which automatically bans it from Commons unless there is permission given by the organization(s) that is sent to the OTRS team. I can't speak much on the NBA uniforms since I'm not sure if they were retrieved from somewhere else, but if did you retrieved them from a website like the NFL uniforms, they need to be uploaded to Wikipedia as well under {{Non-free sports uniform}}... especially if they have a non-free logo. If you don't want to go through them, I will. Uploading non-free images and copyrighted works to Commons can get you blocked. If you don't want to go through the short list, I will... Could you please delete whatever doesn't comply from Commons, and then go through the NFL team uniforms and re-upload them via {{Non-free sports uniform}}? I really don't know or have the time to go through it myself. I really don't know what is acceptable and what complies with the non-free criteria. I don't want to get blocked over this, so I guess go ahead. Do what you must. I can tell you that the NBA team uniforms came from images I downloaded from Chris Creamer's SportsLogos.net. I then combined the uniforms into one composite image using Microsoft Paint. I don't know if it constitutes a violation of the non-free criteria, but if the NBA team uniform files do violate the non-free criteria, then I guess go ahead and delete them also. The NBA uniforms will need to be uploaded to Wikipedia since you retrieved them from another website. Since they are going to be uploaded to Wikipedia under a non-free license, they can only be used in the primary articles (i.e. File:Composite Indianapolis Colts uniforms.png would only be allowed in the Indianapolis Colts article). As for deleting, you can request a deletion by author (original uploader) by using this template: Template:SDG7. Only administrators are allowed to delete the files. As for non-free images vs. commons images, it is pretty simple. Commons only allows works released in the Public Domain – Photographs taken by the Federal Government, images (sometimes logos) granted permission by the copyright owner that sent a request into the OTRS team, and works that are too simple to be copyrighted (wordmarks). Non-free images are the opposite and a good example is the NCAA athletic teams logos. Example: File:KSUWildcats logo.svg can only be used in the Kansas State Wildcats article, so we use the school's wordmark instead because it is below the threshold of originality and in the Public Domain. I based them off this URL from Stats.NBA.com, which is fairly reliable (right-click on the logo colors and select 'Inspect Element (Q)' on each color to find out the exact HTML color code). Of course, we won't know for sure until the Pistons' Reproduction Guideline Sheet is updated, which probably won't happen until sometime between either the conclusion of the NBA Finals or the start of the NBA Draft. Cavs and minor edits

Two quick things: 1) the NBA licensing guide currently used in the Cleveland Cavaliers article actually identifies the Cavs' gold color as "Cavaliers yellow" instead of gold. It's from August 2016, so we can assume it's the most recent and most accurate. As a Cavs fan who lives in Northeast Ohio, though, I can tell you it's most often referred to by the team and media as the "wine and gold". I'd leave it where it is since the colors will get an update anyway once the season ends, which looks to be very soon :(.

2) Also, a minor edit is something like adding wikilinks to a word or phrase, correcting a typo, adding punctuation, etc. Whenever you change the content of the article (like changing a source or words), though, even in a small way, that shouldn't be tagged as a minor edit. From the help page: "A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous versions. Examples include typographical corrections, formatting and presentational changes, and rearrangements of text without modification of its content. Make sure you're on the right website – Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University System are two different entities. Maryland colors

OK, I was just trying to edit in good faith. Thanks for the explanation. So I looked at that URL reference for Maryland being used at Module:College color/data and I right-clicked on the red text and selected 'Inspect Element (Q)' in Firefox. The HTML color code being used for that that was displayed was  #CF102D  for Red. I then did the same thing for the yellow text titled Terrapin Athletics (the HTML color code displayed was  #FFCD23  for Gold). Care to look into this? I just want accurate HTML color codes to be displayed at Module:College color/data. I don't want to engage in an edit-war with you over this. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:06, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

I only listed the colors inkscape provided me, which were close to the pantone.com color finder. I've tried contacting the athletics dept on several occasions and have gotten no response. You're tool has been pretty accurate, so I'm fine with the changing the codes to those provided above. The name of the reference is the title of the webpage so that is why it is titled that way. @WikiOriginal-9: Yeah, I would, but I looked into that. One of the guidelines for Wikipedia granting me template editor rights is that I can't have had a recent editing block for six (6) months. My last editing block was a little more than one (1) month ago. I'll have to wait until at least October or November 2017 to apply again, provided I don't get blocked for edit-warring again, which I'm going to do everything in my power and ability to avoid. One of my editing goals on Wikipedia is to avoid being blocked for edit-warring and for being uncivil, which is what I got blocked for the last time. Oregon Ducks

What's your opinion on changing the Oregon Ducks colors to #004f39 ( #004f39 ) and #fbe021 ( #fbe021 ) as shown on the inspect element tool? My reason for disagreeing with what they sent via email is that it is pretty evident that based off of their websites, pdfs, etc., they don't use #00934B ( #00934B ). Thoughts? If you're still seeing the old code, you may need to purge your web browser by adding ?action=purge at the end of the url in the article. Charles, I know I've asked you once, so I'm going to ask you again: If you color formatting in the module for a team, you need to change all of them for the athletcs. Don't just update the main template(s). They won't be synced that way and screws everything up. If you don't want to update them all, then don't update the module. It's plain and simple. @Sabbatino: I found out the HTML color codes for the Vancouver Canucks at the team's website. I right-clicked and selected 'Inspect' in Google Chrome on the text "Follow the Canucks" to find out what the HTML color code was for green. It's  #008852 . For the blue color code, I right-clicked on the logo at the top of the page and selected 'Open image in new tab'. That led me to this URL. I then right-clicked on the text in the logo and selected 'Inspect' in Chrome to find out what the HTML color code was for blue. It's  #001F5B .
