Utilise[edit]

Just to let you know that there is nothing wrong with spelling utilise with an s, see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English and I don't believe a consistant variety of English has used in that article. John Hayes 08:56, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha very true ;-). This was about the guidelines, which say not to change which version of english is used unless there is a good reason. There isn't in this case. John Hayes 10:32, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rams coaching staff[edit]

Actually, I'm trying to improve upon it, not change it. Wikipedia is a work in progress, assume good faith that what I'm trying to do is improve the article. Also, please note that you are in violation of WP:3RR by reverting edits over and over again. --Pinkkeith 20:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eagles Coaching Template[edit]

The Eagles list 19 people on their official "Coaches" page. 18 of them are on the wikipedia page, i'm adding the 19th for completeness. Bjewiki 21:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Furthermore, who decides who goes on there? you know i'm an Eagles fan, and for instance Rick Burkholder (their Head Athletic Trainer) has a heck of a lot more name recognition than about 11 of those coaches listed. So *who* defines notable. Bjewiki 21:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GTA 4[edit]

The place that makes it is based in Scotland. They were bought by Rockstar which is based in America. Its still a Scottish created and developed game. Even the PSP games are made here, by Rockstar London.Darkwarriorblake 21:44, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Marlins Closer[edit]

Michael Hill, the assistant GM of the Florida Marlins, said about an hour ago that tomorrow the decision about who would be the closer, Henry Owens (who was the lead candidate before his injury, Kevin Gregg (who was closing out games after Owens was injured), or Armando Benitez (who was the closer for the SF Giants), would probably be made tomorrow. Since the decision about who was the closer was never actually made(Owens and Gregg were put there because they were getting the opportunities), it is best to just leave it blank until then.

This was all made clear by FSN Florida In-Game Reporter Craig Minervini in the Post Game show today.

And how about when you make an edit to something you don't agree with you back it up with some sort of proof instead of an insult. Fell free to visit WP:CIVIL --Rabbethan 03:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Marquay Love[edit]

He's a warm body for training camp. NFL players are not notable until they play in a regular season game, and even then sometimes not. If we have separate Wikipedia pages for every player in training camp, then I would hope you also go back and make pages for every single person who's played in an NFL game. They are far more significant than a camp body.

Vandalism[edit]

Wow, you sure are an ass. It was not written as vandilism it was written as a part of the main article. I was offering up reason for deleting a part of the article and warrant the deletion of the article, and please do not take it upon yourself to delete another's talk comment.

Lol, I did not set out to argue with you either, your point was taken, I have been active on Wikipedia for 2 years now and maybe it did not belong on the talk page, but as you were so proud and self-righteous in your own delusions of granduer maybe you did not realize you were being a complete asshole simple deletion of the comment would have sufficed.

Numbering on NFL infoboxes[edit]

Hey Chrisjnelson, I just wanted to say that I like what you did with the addition of the jersey numbers to the NFL player infoboxes. It's a nice touch! RyguyMN 03:24, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw it on Brett Favre and I like it even though everyone knows his number.++aviper2k7++ 04:43, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Chris, I added a number field to the NFL infobox using the work done for the MLB infobox. If you do decide to use this field, make sure to use "number" and NOT "Number" in your syntax to ensure that it works properly. RyguyMN 05:41, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to add his number to the top of the infobox, it's best to do so at the template level. I like how it looks, though. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 13:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I like the way it looks, but it should be done through the template level (adding a "Number" parameter), instead of concatenating the number onto the players' name. Bjewiki 14:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Jerseys[edit]

You need to just put something in the fair use rationale box, Chris. That thing above is just a bot that puts any images up for deletion that don't have anything in that box. Just copy whatever I have from the Pats uniforms. Pats1 10:56, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jersey Number in Infobox...[edit]

I actually used to like the way you had it, with "<name> - <#>". But, I read over the discussion over the talk page. I think I agree with whoever said that it clutters up the title of the infobox. And is the number even that important? To be honest, I think you could actually make a stronger case that the title should be "<name> - <position>". Bjewiki 01:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree numbers should be part of the article. But inside the infobox just makes more sense to me. Bjewiki 01:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Same here. It's fine to be inside the infobox. But it is very distracting where it is right now. I think it should only be the name in the top box. Please, reconsider and put the number inside the box. Soxrock 17:7, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Number on infobox team bar...[edit]

Was just testing it as you messaged me. Check out Brett Favre's page. Bjewiki 15:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Short edits[edit]

I prefer it for one reason:

Less stress on me personally. I don't have to really worry about a large edit that has potential for being caught in an edit conflict. Plus, I click the "edit" button on top of the section, meaning I don't even get the full page, just the section. Soxrock 23:09 June 18 2007 (UTC)

So, Soxrock, you're saying that you'd rather try to avoid getting in an edit conflict yourself, even though it means forcing other people to get involved in edit conflicts? In my opinion, you're just selfish and self-centered. --Ksy92003 (talk) 00:26, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retired Players[edit]

Why are retired players (Bartrum in Philly and Freeman in GB) being kept on the roster template? I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that? Let me know. Bjewiki 18:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree that the reserve/retired list is what happens to players when they announce retirement. I'm just questioning the need for it on the roster template. It seems like it's getting cluttered with some uncessary inforamtion. For example, Tiki Barber is listed on the Giants roster template, but he's not listed on the Giants roster from either the NFL [1] or Giants' [2] sites. The question then is, since you apparently can't see the r-r list anywhere "official" (that I know of, maybe you know of one), how do you verify who is/is not still on it? This would likely violate WP:VERIFY. My guess would be that when the 53-man roster is finalized before the season starts, the r-r list is cleaned out. But I can't actually find that information anywhere. If that's the case, then i'm questioning if it is really necessary to clutter the template w/ retired players for 2 months? Bjewiki 19:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I said above, I understand that's what happens when a player initially retires. But, how long does a player stay on the r-r list? Bjewiki 09:24, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Metsbot[edit]

Why did this mark a lot of my photos as "passing requirements for deletion"? Does this mean they will be deleted or they will not be?Chris Nelson 18:02, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about the images. :-) They're being deleted on the English Wikipedia because they're now available on Wikimedia Commons. You will not notice any difference, and do not have to do anything. —METS501 (talk) 18:18, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Raiders nickname[edit]

He may have gone golfing with Belichick today, but I don't know if a Bermanism would qualify as a verifiable nickname. :D Pats1 22:56, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nothing in the infobox template indicates criteria for adding nicknames. Chris Berman is not the only one who uses the nickname - a simple Google search will verify this. But even if he was, he's a nationally known broadcaster on the most well-known sports network in America. It's not as if he's some obscure blogger. So basically, unless you can provide some objective criteria for what can or cannot be included in the nickname field, it stays. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 13:23, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Userboxes[edit]

If you go to your contribs, change it over to 500 per page and then just go back and count. Pretty easy -- don't think there's any automatic way to do it though. Pats1 18:57, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mike Maroth has been traded.[edit]

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070622&content_id=2042251&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Now quit reverting. RobDe68 19:48, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Teams generally don't plan to announce non-trades. Since you like to hurl insults, learn to quit being so anal. RobDe68 19:55, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NFLE Allocations?[edit]

Do you want to move the NFLE guys back into the main rosters after the World Bowl today, since they'll back with their respective teams starting with training camp? Since with the new CBA their exemptions expire on the first cutdown (75) anyway, and since we don't keep any roster numbers/limits on this template (which gets me thinking...), I think it would be OK just to re-insert them, without any notation. Pats1 13:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Johnson not on DL[edit]

http://cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070622&content_id=2043138&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl

Do you need me to google anything else for you while I'm at it? As far as Maroth, I don't know what the hell to do with him. He was aquired but hasn't been placed on 25 man roster yet, at least until they finally place Johnson on DL. RobDe68 01:11, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't check, that's the definition of a blind edit. I'm sorry you're all uptight about the term but it's "technically accurate". RobDe68 01:45, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Milton Bradley to San Diego Padres[edit]

Hi Chris ... the reason I went ahead and added Bradley to the Padres extended roster is because the article on mlb.com about the trade says: "To make room for Bradley on the 40-man roster, San Diego designated left-handed pitcher Sean Thompson for assignment." As I'm sure you know, the rosters on mlb.com are almost never up to date with the latest moves. It doesn't really make much difference to me one way or the other, but I thought I'd explain my reasoning. Thanks for your diligence in keeping the roster pages current. --Sanfranman59 22:07, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
