The notification you left on my talk page

You have recently made edits related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. This is a standard message to inform you that articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics. Cullen328 (talk) 16:26, 20 March

I have made no such edits on their actual pages so i have no idea what you are writing me this for. I questioned on the talk page if events that really happened in life should be included on the subjects personal life topic.

David Grohl has admitted to his multiple cases of infidility. The people that make those statements have it on their page but this info is lacking on the other party involved. In the case of dave grohl there is a pattern of infidelity and as much as i like him i think this should be added to his page. The comments are on Post's page. The comments are on mary j blige's page. But nowhere to be found on either grohls or K-Ci pages.

You dont have to search very hard to find dave admitting this and the info is out in the public domain. It may be contentious but that is not my concern since these events did happen and are well documented. It does not really concern me if you or dave, for that matter, does not like the truth being told.

The talk pages not really public facing pages so could hardly be considered making edits on their pages. Have a nice day EnveeNV (talk) 18:33, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

EnveeNV, please be aware that the WP:BLP policy applies to every single page on Wikipedia, not just articles, and that it is enforced vigorously. You accused Dave Grohl of being a "serial philanderer" but you have yet to furnish a reliable source that uses anything close to that kind of terminolgy. You compared him to Harvey Weinstein using the misspelling "Weinberg". Weinstein has been convicted of and imprisoned for five felony sex crimes, while Grohl has never been arrested, as far as I know, for anything, let alone a sex crime. The comparison is ludicrous. So, all of your comments were serious policy violations. It seems that you did not get the message, so I will be even more clear: If you violate BLP policy again, you will be blocked. Cullen328 (talk) 19:00, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
LMFAO. Fine, the policy applies to all pages. No problem. He has cheated on his partners multiple times. You people are not interested in the truth and just want to sugarcoat people. I am done editing and i am done donating funds.

EnveeNV, the Wikimedia Foundation has annual revenues of $155 million and net assets of $240 million. We do not need donations from people who are involved with Wikipedia in order to compare people like Dave Grohl to people like Harvey Weinstein, in violation of policy. I hope you find another hobby. Yuck

It appears that there are two blocked humans, one of whom made four insulting posts to your talk page, one of which has been hidden. The other one has a block log going back more than a decade. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:57, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Robert McClenon. Yes, I know. An LTA is now obsessed with me because of an assessment that I made at the Neutralhomer unblock request. A checkuser has confirmed that Neutralhomer is completely uninvolved with this. In that sense, this harassment campaign has aspects of a joe job. The claim is that I accused Neutralhomer of committing a crime when all I did was summarize their block log. When attention was focused on the 2009 incident (one of 20+), I provided direct quotes from the blocking administrator and from Neutralhomer. This disturbed random sad sack on the internet is fixated on me for now, but will probably move on to harassing other people pretty soon. If not, I will request semi-protection of my talk page. I do not want to do that unless necessary, because I like interacting with new editors who are here for the right reasons. Cullen328 (talk) 01:17, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Evading Deer (17:26, 23 March 2023)

Hello Cullen,

I'm new to Wikipedia editing, and recently added an External Link to these two pages:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kripalvananda https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kripalu_Center

Link text: "Comprehensive Documentation of Swami Kripalvananda's Life"

Link URL: https://swamikripalvananda.org/

I've added the above link at the bottom of the External Links list.

My question is, for the first page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kripalvananda, the first two external links listed are both non-secure, and are lower quality sites than the one I added. Is it possible for me to have my link moved to the top of the list, or is that bad Wikipedia etiquette? I'm concerned that users will click the first two External links, see they're poor quality, and not bother to click the one I posted.

Thank you. --Evading Deer (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Evading Deer. Personally, I would have no problem with you placing the best external link at the top of the section. If the other external links are really low quality, then you could propose at Talk: Kripalvananda that they be removed. Cullen328 (talk) 18:46, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

I reverted these edits on the talk page of a user you blocked, since they contained personal attacks. Just bringing to your attention in case any additional action is needed. Thanks. -- GoneIn60 (talk) 16:21, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello, GoneIn60. I think that particular troll has moved on weeks ago. Cullen328 (talk) 16:25, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Hey, Cullen (or any TPS)! Found you on the list of participants at WikiProject Judaism. Do you have any idea what the correct link would be for this? I'm not sure it's 1970s Soviet Union aliyah, as Gershkovich's parents didn't go to Israel and people who went to the US instead are referred to as 'dropouts' in that article, but there doesn't seem to be an article for Dropout (aliyah); maybe there should be or it's under another name and hasn't been linked from aliyah? I could link to the section that mentions dropouts: 1970s_Soviet_Union_aliyah#Absorption_of_new_immigrants_in_Israel but it still seems a little confusing? Valereee (talk) 11:37, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Valereee. Another possibility is Russian Americans#Soviet era (1922–1991). That article could be reorganized a bit to create a separate section about the emigration of Russian Jews to the US in the 1970s and 1980s. The content is already there. It is kind of surprising that we don't have a freestanding article. Recentism, I suppose. Cullen328 (talk) 18:56, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
I was thinking the same thing, surprised we don't have an article. I'm sure someone must have written about it. Thanks! Valereee (talk) 19:07, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Creating Article From Scratch - 2023 Cricket World Cup Final

Hello Cullen, how are you? I hope you're doing well. I was looking to create this article, 2023 Cricket World Cup Final as a brand new proper article from scratch so that I can be credited as the original author and creator of this article. It is not a true article as it never had any content in it and was created by someone many years ago only as a redirect to the main article 2023 Cricket World Cup. Now since the schedule and many other details have been confirmed by the International Cricket Council, hence I would be very thankful if you could delete this redirect 2023 Cricket World Cup Final so that I can create a new article on it. Thanks. TheGeneralUser (talk) 14:57, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, TheGeneralUser. Your draft is not ready for main space so there is no need to delete the redirect at this time. A desire to be be "credited as the original author" is not a good reason. I see that several other editors have given you similar advice. Cullen328 (talk) 15:14, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. TheGeneralUser (talk) 15:16, 12 April 2023 (UTC)

Bernard Looney changes

Hi Cullen328, a few weeks ago you had said you'd be willing to take a look at a request I made of the Bernard Looney article regarding some questionably neutral content. I just wanted to see if that offer still stood? Please let me know, and thanks for the time. Arturo at BP (talk) 16:43, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Arturo at BP. I am sorry that I have taken such a long time to respond to your request. I have looked at this matter repeatedly in recent weeks, trying to motivate myself to implement the changes that you seek. In the end, I cannot bring myself to make edits that any way downplay or whitewash the ridiculousness and absurdity of a fabulously wealthy corporate executive putting himself forward as an official representative of the people of a poverty stricken country ruled by a repressive regime that denies basic human rights to its citizens. This is, of course, all to enrich BP stockholders with negligible regard for the poorest of the poor and the human-caused climate crisis. I simply cannot go there. Cullen328 (talk) 03:50, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
@Cullen328: thank you for your response. I certainly was not trying to whitewash anything; rather, I was hoping to bring those sections into better compliance with neutral point of view guidelines and use the ideas in the criticism essay to do so, especially since this is a biography of a living person. I'm always open to alternatives and I don't think what I have proposed is the only way these additions could be addressed. I understand not wanting to delve into this, though, and I thank you for your time and consideration. Arturo at BP (talk) 18:02, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Blocking IPv6

Hi, Cullen. I don't think we're supposed to block IPs indefinitely, as you did with 2402:3a80:10df:2e62:f791:a07c:7761:7ed2 on 331dot's page. Also, I reckon you might like to block the /64 range, 2402:3a80:10df:2e62::/64, instead of just the one IP? Note, I've blocked the other /64, 2402:3A80:10D0:20F3::/64, obviously the same person, and also harassing Beeblebrox, for two weeks. There may be a bigger range that we could block, I'm not good with those. What about you, Beebs? Bishonen | tålk 08:01, 15 April 2023 (UTC).

Hello, Bishonen. That was apparently a late night (my time) misclick. I intended a term of one month but it looks like I accidentally selected indefinite. I often wish that I could indefinitely block the person behind IP disruption but I also accept that people far smarter than me have concluded that it is not possible. As for "bigger range that we could block", I am barely smart enough to cheerfully acknowledge that this possibility exists, but nowhere near competent enough technically to implement such a block. I made it clear when I went through RfA that I am not highly accomplished with technical details like range blocks, although I highly respect the adminstrators who have those skills. My strengths, such as they are, are in "softer" (non-technical) areas of adminstrative work. Cullen328 (talk) 08:34, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
My own strength is in creating sockpuppets,[1] though I didn't mention that at my RfA — I don't understand IPv6 beyond the /64s. Materialscientist, might you like to take a look at these ranges? Bishonen | tålk 09:24, 15 April 2023 (UTC).
Update: 2402:3a80:10c4:1e20::/64 has continued harassing 331dot and Beeblebrox. Blocked for 72 hours by ScottishFinnishRadish. Radish, could you take a look at the whole range this character obviously has access to, per my first post above? Is there anything more to be done than blocking the /64s as they turn up? Bishonen | tålk 10:35, 15 April 2023 (UTC).
In actually loading my boat up right now for a day of fishing, so I don't have time to look into the range right now. I'll take a peek when I get home this afternoon. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:59, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
I've also never learned how to do range blocks. I almost never even see these posts, someone has always removed them before I get there and they never say anything of substance anyway so I've basically been ignoring it. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:22, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
Looks like HJ Mitchell took care of it with a partial block on 2402:3A80:0:0:0:0:0:0/32. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:59, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
Oh, good. Thanks, Harry and Radish. Bishonen | tålk 22:47, 15 April 2023 (UTC).
Anything for you and Beebs, Bish. For what it's worth if you're curious Jim, if you have one of these new fangled IPv6s, you can go to its contributions and just type "/64" after the IP. Press search and it will show you the edits for that sub range. You can normally treat that the same as an individual IP. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 06:44, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

This thread is proof that all I need to do is to frankly admit my ignorance and many of the best administrators will come here to comment. Thank you, Bishonen and your socks, ScottishFinnishRadish, Beeblebrox, HJ Mitchell. Cullen328 (talk) 06:57, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Question on Memrise edits

Hi, and thanks for all your work and contributions!

I am a founder of Memrise (language learning app), and for a long time it has pained me that the wikipedia page is woefully inaccurate - eg it has a fanciful number for our revenues that I have no idea where it came from, lists the wrong languages that we offer, wrong number of users, wrong feature set... etc.

I made a few changes myself and then someone on my team was updating further changes. Our approach was to make sure we reference any change so that everyone can see the source information. We are also trying to write it not as a promotion - I just want the info to be accurate.

I see you reverted some changes as they were by a non-disclosed paid person. You're right - they were, but our intent was not malicious! I hope that was obvious by the fact that I made the initial changes from my own account with my name clearly visible :)

How do we declare that we are doing this ourselves in the interests of accuracy? I'm totally happy to have the information checked and made totally un-salesy. I just want it to be true. Sorry for causing trouble by doing it the wrong way, any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks

Ben Benwhately (talk) 07:55, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Benwhately. Looking at your edit history, I see that you have been engaging in undisclosed paid editing with a conflict of interest for 12 years. Many administrators would block you on the spot, but I am going to give you one last chance to comply with the Paid contribution disclosure. This is mandatory and non-negotiable. Please do so in your next edit.
You have asked for advice and so I will let you know that Wikipedia administrators and experienced volunteer editors intensely dislike undeclared paid editors and will do everything possible to remove their content from the encyclopedia. As I said when I blocked User:Growth Team, Advertising, promotion, public relations and marketing are not permitted. This is not boilerplate. We take it seriously.
A Wikipedia article about a company should summarize what reliable sources entirely independent of the company say about the company. A Wikipedia article whose first reference is "Ben Whately - Founder's Story" from your website is an article with major problems, and those problems were created by you and your employees. Consider the list of languages. If the Wall Street Journal or The Guardian was writing an article about your company, would they list every single language you offer? Of course not. They would say x number of languages. That sort of list belongs in your brochures, on your website or on your social media sites. It does not belong in a neutral encyclopedia article about your company.
As for "malicious", I am experienced enough to know the difference between malicious and inappropriately promotional. As of today, I have blocked 8,179 Wikipedia accounts. Only a minority were malicious. A large majority were promotional. Both types get blocked.
The Wikipedia article Memrise does not belong to you, your company or to the hapless employees you assign to edit it. That article belongs to the Wikipedia community. Read about Ownership.
Volunteer editors and administrators expect paid editors to know what the heck they are doing, but are frequently disappointed. You wouldn't assign a mail room clerk to repair a serious electrical or plumbing problem, would you?
The proper way for a declared paid editor to change an article is to make a well-referenced, neutral, formal Edit request on the article talk page, which is Talk:Memrise in this case. Cullen328 (talk) 09:10, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for this and apologies again for failing to do the right thing previously. I totally understand your annoyance, and can only offer my abject apology. I didn't spend enough time understanding how to do this properly and I should have. Sorry.
I totally agree and understand that this article doesn't belong to us. We are not intending to use it as a sales brochure - we just want to correct errors that are there.
On the specific point of the list of languages, I've got no personal wish for a list of languages to be there at all; but if it is there then for the sake of Wikipedia's accuracy it should be correct, rather than incorrect, and I have the specific information to fix the error. That was my intention.
I will now use the Talk:Memrise to make all further suggestions.
Could you possibly unblock the blocked user so they can also make the suggestions through Talk: Memrise? IT was entirely my fault that they took the action they did, and they will not do it again.
Thanks for your understanding, your help, and for the huge amount you've done for Wikipedia. Benwhately (talk) 10:30, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
Benwhately, I am not going to unblock Growth Team because team accounts are not permitted. A Wikipedia account is for only one person. If there is just one person with accesss to that account, then that person needs to request an unblock to change their username, addressing the issues that led to the block. Cullen328 (talk) 16:40, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
Benwhately, I notice that you have not yet complied with WP:PAID. Did you read where I said that is mandatory and non-negotiable? Cullen328 (talk) 17:00, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
I did read it, but I thought these disclosures were to be made with any future edits. I hadn't seen that I need to create a user page and put a declaration on there. I have now done that. Thanks for your help. Benwhately (talk) 20:40, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Assassination of John F. Kennedy edit undo

I did not put a claim that Lee Harvey Oswald was innocent. I am aware that not everyone agrees if Lee Harvey Oswald was the shooter. The change I made only adds that Lee Harvey Oswald was shot before he could stand trial. And it removes the statement that he was definitely the shooter. So are you saying he was not shot before he could stand trial? Are you saying Lee Harvey Oswald was tried in a court of law? I just don't understand why you find my change to be a lie. Hello, The Capitalist forever. No, you do not need the visual editor to add photos. I have never used the visual editor except for testing, and I have added hundreds of photos to the encyclopedia. I work with the Wikicode. The file information page for a image on Wikimedia Commons gives you an option you can click to generate a snippet of Wikicode. You just copy and paste that code into the article, publish the changes, and the image appears. Cullen328 (talk) 19:11, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Davidbena

Just a note here because I am permabanned, for I think obnoxious prolixity, from any AE related page and cannot comment there. First I'd like to thank you for supporting a reconsideration of David's request.

As one of the infamous 'gang of four', besides Nableezy, Zero and Huldra, I too stand by David's request, fully aware that, because I think of an ingrained cognitive blind spot arising from his deep religious sense of Israel/Palestine as Eretz Israel, David will, if allowed back, still tend to make slipups, but neither deliberately nor provocatively. The sympathy for David, apart from his amenity generally, comes from a recognition that he is really both erudite and tenaciously committed to the encyclopedic aims of wikipedia. Many of us appear to agree that much of the heat of this I/P area is dispersed if editors underwrite a commitment to high quality sourcing, and there is no doubt that David accepts this.

He does need mentoring, but that is a difficult business, overseeing a productive editor. It's not in our rulebook but were someway to be found to suggest (Nableezy suggests a rule that he desist and revert immediately if anyone challenges his inadvertent boundary violations, for example) that editors there from whatever side do not jump the gun at any possible infraction to report him, but talk it over with David and his mentor, I'm sure the inevitable lapses can be remedied collegially, to wikipedia's advantage. His superb knowledge deserves encouragement and cultivation around here, where politics tends to obscure what is the essential core of our project, informed factual coverage. Hello, El C. Please feel free to rewrite the content in an encyclopedic fashion, adding a reference to a reliable source. In my opinion, Radar Online is a clickbait gossip site that is part of the sleazy and recently rebranded American Media, Inc. family of supermarket tabloids and the like, and is not a reliable source, especially for BLP content. Cullen328 (talk) 03:22, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
Hey. Oh, I just saw your edit and thought you might find that to be of interest, that's it's a legit story. But if not, no sweat. Yeah, I'm not familiar with that specific publication, which I chose somewhat at random (their https://radaronline.com/s/about-us/ did look okay'ish, but on closer look, indeed, not). But I did see that story also mentioned @https://www.mediaite.com/politics/abusive-ego-centric-maniac-conservatives-condemn-steven-crowder-over-shocking-video/ and @https://www.dailydot.com/debug/steven-hilary-crowder-video-abuse. This story broke out a few hours ago (I saw someone on Twitch mention it in passing), so NOTNEWS notwithstanding, I thought that rather than seeing it protected @WP:RFPP/I#Steven_Crowder, someone like yourself might be interested in adding it, instead. Either way, thanks for your time. El_C 04:32, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

I hate to be judgmental, El C, but I can't help but notice that Mediaite was described by the New York Times as a blog that chronicles the gossipy media world in 2010. Maybe their journalistic integrity has soared since then without me noticing. I know that many Wikipedians think that I am an old fogey, but I think that better sources than that are required for contentious material in a BLP, even when I dislike the person in question. Cullen328 (talk) 05:42, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) I agree on this -- it's a crappy source consisting only of a long rant-y Twitter thread (it's not even an interview). If someone thinks it's BLP-worthy, that should be decided at BLPN and RSN. Softlavender (talk) 06:20, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Mediaite sucks, too? Okay, I learned something new, again. Also The Daily Dot also The Daily Beast also the much-beloved Daily Mail... so many daily! But I don't disagree, this story certainly seems to have been dominated by yellow—journalism and WP:RSP—at the outset, which is never good for contentious BLP. Anyway, it is now also mentioned @Forbes as well (see their "Update" at the bottom), with likely other reputable publications following suit soon. El_C 06:29, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
Softlavender, actually, the primary source seems to be https://yashar.substack.com/p/exclusive-video-reveals-steven-crowder rather than Elonbird (I think). Not sure if that matters, though. El_C 06:35, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
No the Mediaite material that Cullen was referring to [2] and that I removed [3] is solely derived from Ben Shapiro's long Twitter rant, not from any statement he made to the press. Read the Mediate article and do control+F for shapiro -- it's all merely tweets. Softlavender (talk) 07:10, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
My gosh, El C, don't you know what a monumental scam the so-called "Forbes Contributors" are? Please read WP:FORBESCON if you did not already know about this. Please do not bring trash sources forward. We need actually reliable sources. Cullen328 (talk) 06:41, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
No, I was not aware. These are not sources I ordinarily cite, or read. And it's not an area I contribute to, either. Which is why I brought it to you, the only person I recognized who recently edited that bio. I saw Forbes in green @RSP, but I guess it's limited to its paperback only. Anyway, I've no stake in this story, I just thought the protection could be avoided. Sorry for the trouble. I'll leave you be now. El_C 06:49, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Esculenta's block

Hi! It seems that after this thread there isn't much wider community appetite to do anything about it. This seems to leave you as the only person who can reasonably do something here. With the benefit of hindsight, I imagine you'll likely evaluate the situation differently? – Uanfala (talk) 09:29, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Uanfala. I want to hear from Esculenta. Any administrator can unblock, but most likely, another administrator would also want to hear from Esculenta. Cullen328 (talk) 16:18, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
The main problem I'm seeing here is not with Esculenta's actions, so I don't think it's their job to remedy that. I was hoping you'd be able to see that. – Uanfala (talk) 16:29, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
If a blocked editor wants to be unblocked, they can simply say so, and discuss the matter, Uanfala. Cullen328 (talk) 16:35, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
So, hindsight hasn't changed your view? As I wrote in the earlier thread, I don't think unblock requests are the way to deal with problematic blocks. I'm taking that for community review at Wikipedia:Administrative action review#Cullen328's block of Esculenta. – Uanfala (talk) 22:15, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Creating articles

Hi, I'd like to know how you get articles to create and improve. Is there a list or something (I find requested articles not that helpful) where there's articles needed or something like that? And where do you your reliable sources? Thanks! Vamsi20 (ask me questions) (see what I've edited) 12:48, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Vamsi, for creating articles, my method is this: notice something in the news, wonder if it has an article. If it doesn't, look for three sources that provide significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject and not just from the local area/industry-niche publications. If I find them, start a draft using those sources. Once I've proven to myself that the subject is indeed notable, move to article space and continue to expand.
For improving articles, my method is this: Read an article in my area of interest. Notice if it needs improvement -- copyediting, sources, cleanup, reorganization, expansion, removal of trivia. Do those things. For stuff I can't or don't have time to fix, tag. Valereee (talk) 13:23, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
I think some Wikiprojects keep lists of potential articles. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:00, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
I fill red links. Usually when I create a new article, it comes with three new red links. My greatest success this year was finding that the wife of (by now) FA Otto Klemperer (not by me) had no article: Johanna Geisler. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
I read interesting papers through the Wikipedia Library and add relevant info to articles on adjacent topics. That way I start out with everything sourced already and the difficult part is just working it into existing prose. Folly Mox (talk) 23:15, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Sudden Page Move

Hello, I noticed a sudden page move by User:Themodifie7 of Allahabad Kumbh Mela to Prayag Kumbh Mela and cannot get a response from the user. Could you help settle this issue? Thanks for the help, HeartCat1💬📝 05:00, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, HeartCat1. I have no expertise in this topic area. Do your best to discuss this dispute with the other editor, and there are various forms of dispute resolution available to you if that does not work. Cullen328 (talk) 05:17, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

OK Boomer

(carrying on here instead of User talk Harrias) First of all, me too. Second of all, that account was created one month after the block in question. Makes me wonder. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:39, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Deepfriedokra. Harrias has started an SPI, but I have my doubts. The blocked editor was spouting LaRouche movement talking points, which are anti-British. The OK Boomer account seems to be resolutely pro-British. Cullen328 (talk) 19:51, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
I just blocked ApatheticName for 72 hours for disruption. Even if they aren't a sock of Boundarylayer, they are behaving very strangely.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:29, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Can you revoke TPA for Bigboobafiicionado98? Their recent comments on their talk page clearly show that they are not here to build an encyclopedia and likely won't be for a long time. Contacting you as you were the blocking admin. -- Shadow of the Starlit Sky 13:02, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Block template discrepancy

Hi Cullen; one of the accounts you blocked is on my watchlist and I saw that you blocked them with the spamublock template with account creation blocked, but the block message you gave them was for a softblock inviting them to create a new account. -- Ponyobons mots 17:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

John Johnson reporter

Dear Jim, I hope you and your family are well. Happy Mother’s Day to your wife! We just looked at John’s page and noticed some changes. The mention that John’s painting was shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has been deleted. Can it please be added back in? I was removed as John’s wife. As references, both the NY Times profile and the Newsday article state we’re married (in 2004). Is it possible to add that the Attica documentary was nominated for an Oscar? Thank you once again for your time and commitment to making Wikipedia even better. Ann Yih Johnson Johnson73 (talk) 23:12, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Mark Essex

There is nothing non-neutral about the fact (even more so in the 60s and 70s) Essex was a member of the Black Panthers. If you read all the references and literature, it is proven. Be happy to add further references if you'd like more citations. Thx. Kieronoldham (talk) 21:41, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Yes, Kieronoldham, what is required is a reliable source that says he was a member of the BPP, rather than a contact or a reader of their literature. I am the primary author of List of members of the Black Panther Party and I know what type of sourcing is required to verify such a claim. Cullen328 (talk) 21:47, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
It is mentioned in several sources (linked and others I have), Cullen328. I don't know whether the fact you are "the primary author of List of members of the Black Panther Party" questions neutrality here (not that I'm fussed personally), but, I'll be happy to add other references. Spent a lot of time researching this article a year or more ago. Give me time to look deeper.--Kieronoldham (talk) 21:52, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
Give me a solid reference, Kieronoldham. You mentioned Swahili slogans. The BPP did not use Swahili slogans, which were associated with the US Organization, avowed enemies of the BPP. Cullen328 (talk) 21:56, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
"Dozens of Swahili words dotted the walls and ceiling, along with lists of exotic beasts from African folklore." Pages 110-111 of Mass Murderers ISBN 0-7835-0004-1. African studies he'd been taking assiduously (we can assume) by August of 1972.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:09, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
Image 2 of 30 here depicts some of the slogans. I think this would be beneficial to add to the article.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:13, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
If anything, Kieronoldham, his use of Swahili slogans is evidence against his claimed membership in the BPP. I have studied the BPP for decades. They did not use Swahili slogans, which they associated with the ideology of cultural nationalism, which they opposed forcefully. Cullen328 (talk) 22:16, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

So that may explain why ample BPP literature was found at his apartment? ("Reading material".) It is not "evidence" against anything. The guy was seeking self-identity and pride in his culture/heritage. The Cawthorne book states Frank introduced him to the Black Panthers, with whom he was active.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:27, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Having ample BPP literature at his apartment is NOT evidence that he was a MEMBER of the BPP, Kieronoldham. Cullen328 (talk) 22:30, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
I was inferring to your "evidence" statement. I suppose it is indicative of his being amenable to their ideology. Anyhow, it is in Cawthorne's book, as well as others such as The House of Blue Lights (p. 177), or Countering Terrorism (p.45). Do you want to reinsert the links or shall I? Be happy to use the word "affiliated" if you wish-certainly with regards to New York-or to add to a note that "according to some" sources, Essex was a member of the BPP.--Kieronoldham (talk) 22:40, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
Please don't misinterpret my replies as abrasive - if these sources are incorrect, then they are still, numerous, reputable sources.--Kieronoldham (talk) 00:23, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Left a further reply upon my page. Necessary details are there. Kudos and regards.-Kieronoldham (talk) 03:55, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Maybe it's time to close it?

Hello, can you finally close this topic? It has long acquired the character of a vicious circle, where someone brings charges against me, I try to defend myself, in response, new accusations are made against me, and so on in a circle without any result. In one case, the person even bluntly admitted that he was intentionally hostile to me and stopped only after I pointed out to him that his actions only fueled the argument even more and potentially provoked me to new answers. I was already warned about the outcome of the section at the very beginning and wrote in the afternoon that in order to avoid further senseless conflict, I will not do anything if people do not agree with my arguments, so as far as I understand, this can be safely closed a long time ago in order to avoid further flooding and accusations. Solaire the knight (talk) 12:48, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Solaire the knight, I an involved in that discussion, and it would be inappropriate for me to close it. That should be done by an uninvolved administrator. Cullen328 (talk) 17:31, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
I understand where you are coming from, but the administrator who opened it also answered me this, although I directly made it clear that I do not consider myself in conflict with him and would not mind if he summed it up. Well, since we've agreed that I won't reply to that thread anymore, it looks like it's just going to be left unowned for now. Solaire the knight (talk) 17:39, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

John Johnson reporter

Hi dear Jim, John and I see you’re editing his page and want to thank you very much! He says hello! Could you please make my name Ann Yih Johnson instead of Ann Yih? Also, John would like to know if you can revert his page to the version you wrote last year, which included his MA from City College of New York, an honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Aquinas College, and his paintings shown at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Walter Wickiser Gallery in Chelsea We appreciate it! Ann & John Johnson73 (talk) 00:02, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Johnson73. Hello, Ann & John. I added Ann back to the spouse field of the infobox. Common practice is to list the spouse by their name before the marriage (maiden name), but I am looking into this. The gallery showings are back in the article, but I need references to reliable sources for that. The article is getting heightened scrutiny because of John being discussed in the Trump/E. Jean Carroll lawsuit coverage. Editors are removing unsourced content. I will take a look at the degrees next. Cullen328 (talk) 00:14, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
In other words, Johnson73, I need to add references to reliable sources for the degrees, the Oscar nomination, and the gallery showings. Any unreferenced content is at risk of being removed. Cullen328 (talk) 00:29, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi Jim,
The MA from City College of NY is cited in the press release from 3/16/15.
The Oscar nomination for Attica is referenced in these articles:
https://variety.com/video/Attica-traci-curry-Stanley-nelson and also
https://www.Oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/2022
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Walter Wickiser gallery painting exhibitions are cited in the NY Daily News article from 5/10/12.
Working on the St. Thomas Aquinas reference.
Thank you!!!
Ann & John Johnson73 (talk) 01:18, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
The content on the John Johnson Archives at his alma mater, City College of NY, was also deleted. The John Johnson Archives is a valuable resource for scholars, students and historians.
The reference is:
“Emmy Award Winner John Johnson, ’61, ’63MA, Gifts Papers to CCNY” from https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/news/john-johnson-gift-to-ccny
This reference can also be used for his MA source.
Thank you for working so hard on a Saturday evening! Johnson73 (talk) 01:34, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
Good morning dear Jim! We hope Debra had a wonderful Mother's Day!
Regarding John's article, his M.A.from City College of New York, honorary doctorate from St. Thomas Aquinas College and John Johnson Archives at CCNY (a valuable source for students, scholars and historians) were deleted.
Reference for M.A. and John Johnson Archives: “Emmy Award Winner John Johnson, ’61, ’63MA, Gifts Papers to CCNY” from https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/news/john-johnson-gift-to-ccny
I contacted St. Thomas Aquinas College. Annie Lombardi, the Marketing/Communications Director, sent me a PDF of the 5/19/91 commencement ceremony when the honorary doctorate was conferred. Is there a way for me to attach it or send screenshots?
An editor recently revised John's exhibitions to say: "According to Johnson, he has shown at..."
The current third Reference in the article sources John's exhibitions at Walter Wickiser Gallery in NYC:

We thank you once again.

Is it possible

Hello, @Cullen328:, I have written my article on the Dewar's Candy Shop (link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Dewar%27s_Candy_Shop ) and I have submitted it for review. Gråbang Gråa Sång told me it is good enough to be moved into article space. (I don't know what your opinion is on my article, but feel free to tell me.) The instructions on WP:MOVE are quite confusing, especially since it assumes you have a laptop (which I don't). What I would like to know is it possible to move it to article space when I have already submitted it and the review is waiting. If so, could you please do that for me. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! Additional Note: Gråbang Gråa Sång told me that it is allowed to move an article to article space right after you make it. The Capitalist forever (talk) 21:39, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

The Capitalist forever, since I suggested some references for that draft, I think that it would be best if I left the review to another editor. Cullen328 (talk) 21:42, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

@Cullen328: That's ok, I was just curious since I already submitted it to the Afc review, if it is still possible to manually move it to article space as described in WP:MOVE. The Capitalist forever (talk) 21:46, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

The Capitalist forever, it is possible but it is widely considered to be bad form to do that after you have clicked the "submit" button. Cullen328 (talk) 21:48, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

@Cullen328:Alright then, I'll just wait for it to be reviewed. Thanks for your time and advice! The Capitalist forever (talk) 21:50, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

A kitten for you!

Your commitment to impartiality is amazing, such as the contributor with an obvious conflict of interest on the article "Gavriel D. Rosenfeld". I applaud you for your efforts.

Thanks, GunnarBonk, but that was about six months ago. What brought it to your attention now? Just curious. Cullen328 (talk) 08:46, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
I was looking at the article recently and I saw the action you'd taken, and I thought it worthy of thanks, even though it was a while back. GunnarBonk (talk) 19:46, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
