Request for admin

Hello, I'm trying to submit a request for myself to become an admin, but I'm not sure how to do it. I've clicked on the RFA pages, but can't figure out where to put the request in. Can you help please.

Thanks L1amw90 (talk) 11:47, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Just FYI I have given this user much information about this, but they seem to be disregarding it or does not understand it. 331dot (talk) 12:22, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
@L1amw90: sorry but to put it bluntly, if you don’t know how to apply for admin powers, you’re not ready to be one.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 12:59, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Question from Burqcoix1

Hello cyberpower. I am a new user and actually looking for a way to create a public page for real self in real life. I’m not sure where to look for help in order to do this. I do not have one written about me yet. Burqcoix1 (talk) 00:58, 1 June 2019 (UTC) 😁 Burqcoix1 (talk) 00:59, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Burqcoix1: You don't, please see WP:AUTO. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 06:54, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
@Burqcoix1: Welcome to English Wikipedia and to the collaborative work of making it better! Adding to the excellent answer from Redrose64, you should know that "real life webpages" is something different from Wikipedia (an encyclopedia). Creating webpages can be done in many ways and there are plenty of tutorials on the web, e.g. one such example I picked more or less at random. If you actually meant a user page, perhaps inspired by User:Cyberpower678 or User:Redrose64, your user page User:Burqcoix1 is indeed a public page where you may write about yourself. Just click that link and edit it, or start at User:Burqcoix1/sandbox to make it more experimental. These user pages are not part of the encyclopedia, but since they are public and hosted on the same site, there are still some restrictions on what is allowed - see Wikipedia:User pages. IABot FAQ

Cyberpower678/FaQs has an FAQ for IABot. It is linked from en:IABot talk. Template:Sourcecheck seems to have been discontinued. It may have less impact, if the notifications aren't posted on talk pages any more, but you should consider updating (i.e. removing) the instructions about the "checked" flag. You may also benefit from moving the FAQ to IABot user space to separate it from your own user.

The original reason for me writing is that I come from svWp and the bot is (still) adding talk posts there. In the signature it directly links en:IABot talk. I was wondering how to use the checked flag, but I now understand that there is probably no such thing on the svWp bot either. The talk post also links to IABot FAQ on metawiki. It seems to cover most of what you have on Cyberpower678/FaQs. Could you replace the FAQ link from en:IABot talk with link to the FAQ on metawiki? It would clarify the conflicting information from my svWp point of view and hopefully also work for enWp. I don't know the full complexity of this, but thought you could take a look when time permits. Thanks! JAGulin (talk) 13:18, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi. I'm still hoping to resolve the issue that I was telling you about in this discussion. I understand if you aren't able to help, but if that's the case, can you let me know if there's someone else who might know how to address this? I'm not sure who else I can ask. Thanks. --Jpcase (talk) 21:45, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Hey there. Does it make sense to set a default-collapsed state for the sections posted by this bot? Many unpopular articles (such as this) often has large sections of spam-looking posts by this bot. Just my thoughts. P31?P40? (talk) 13:03, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Listeria pages

Happening again. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:31, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Pigsonthewing, I think it would be better to throw a nobots template up and deny InternetArchiveBot. It respects nobots. Can ListeriaBot simply prepend nobots to its pages?—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:09, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
You suggested that the last time we discussed this, then agreed when I pointed out that nobots may prevent ListeriaBot from editing pages. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:12, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
It’s not compliant with the deny or allow directive? I was thinking along the lines of {{bots|allow=ListeriaBot}} or {{bots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} or the same idea with the nobots template.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 13:30, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.

Best—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 20:27, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@Cyberpower678: we translated the above text and the text in the Meta's FAQ's page. Now, before I give the whole thing to you, I need some help regarding the questions.

  • Where is your dead link template(s)?
    • Can you give me an example within the EnWiki about this? Unfortunately our community isn't very adept at the whole citation process and we're just starting with it.
  • Do you have any archive template(s)? Please list them.
    • The same with this question. We may have them (I'm sure we do have one for the first question - although I'm not sure if it does have a correct code) but I want to be sure first we're talking about the same templates.
  • Do you want talk page messages?
    • What kind of messages? Probably, the short answer will be "Yes." We want to increase awareness about the importance of the citation process among users but if the messages are too technical, it may be better to opt out of it and let the admins teach the users.
  • What is the community's preferred date format, and all other acceptable formats in order of preference?
    • I believe day, date, month (name), year will be good. Unfortunately we don't have a list of preferred formats as were just starting with the whole technical process regarding citations. It would be good to tell me where or how exactly will the date format be used so I can give you a more correct answer.
  • Where are your Cite templates?
    • Another case where I'd like an example from the EnWiki. If I'm correct with this one, we do have some citation templates but they are scattered and not on a single category. I may have to import some from the EnWiki to create a starting base and do a categorization of them before I give them to you. But an example would be good.

Another question I have for you: Can we modify anything on the bot after I give the answers and translated text to you? As I mentioned earlier, the community is on a transformation phase regarding the citations and while we use the IAbot and understand things better about this subject, we may want to change some things concerning the templates or translate some things in a different way to make them appear more Albanian-friendly. Can we do that? - Klein Muçi (talk) 06:49, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

@Klein Muçi: Hi, I'm not involved in the IABot, but may have some answers to help you progress. First of all, check back on User:InternetArchiveBot to ensure that you do not have too high expectations on what IABot does. The fundamental citation work still needs to be done manually. Secondly, for brevity it may be clever to put a page with the translations in your sandbox and just link it from here. In the end I believe there will be a bot config page for continuous tweaking, including updated translations.
Hope my interference didn't cause additional confusion now. Good luck! JAGulin (talk) 21:16, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
@Jagulin:, thank you a lot for your answers! :) You were very clear except for the archive templates thing. I'm not sure what the bot needs the archive templates for. I mean, if it needs to avoid them or need them in order to work. We may have only one and if it needs them in order to work, we may have to raise the number of them. - Klein Muçi (talk) 04:58, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
@Klein Muçi: If you click the template links above, there is an explanation for each of them. It indicates how they are to be used, but I can't say exactly how IABot interacts with them. If you don't have too much legacy to align with, I believe the cite template is enough, since it holds both original and (replacement) archive URL, but Template:Webarchive may guide the bot if there is already an archive link added. Template:Archive signals that the page is no longer active and should be preserved in "old state", but for articles this is probably not relevant so I would not focus on it.
When you have looked at the example templates I suggested and posted answers to the questions User:Cyberpower678 had, I would recommend you to ping Cyber again to get the official feedback you need. Probably better to start the process as is and learn more, than to create more templates now.
P.S. I converted a reference link you added on Xhevahir Spahiu into a cite web and added dead link flag. I also found a replacement URL, but let's see if IABot adds an archive to fix the dead link. JAGulin (talk) 08:15, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

WebCite to Wayback Machine replacement

As you may know, WebCite is down for over a week by now. At ruWiki we are investigating possible moves if the situation persists as there are over 160 000 WebCite links in source templates. Would it be proper to assume that a simple removal of the links will cause their eventual replacement with WayBack Machine copies (if any) by IABot? --Neolexx (talk) 17:29, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

@GreenC: You might care also. --Izno (talk) 20:40, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

There is an open RfC for enwiki. User:Neolexx, removing the links would not cause their replacement until the links are updated in the IABot database. I could do it but the IABot API is not working (phab). IMO best to hold off deleting anything for the moment. -- GreenC 20:54, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

I'm going to just nuke the entries internally, that contain web citation in the archive fields. Codewise I will push an update in the next beta officially classifying web citation as invalid and replacing them with archive.org, if possible.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 23:51, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
When this next beta will be released? MBH (talk) 10:46, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
WebCite has (or had) some archives only available there. In the possibility they come back online, we would still want those archives vs. creating a dead link. Or find a way to transfer those WARCS somewhere. Given the possibility suggest not removing WebCite if there is no other provider available. At least for a while. -- GreenC 13:01, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

IABot stuck on job 3865

Can you kill job 3865? It's gotten stuck. https://tools.wmflabs.org/iabot/index.php?page=viewjob&id=3865. TIA! Remagoxer (talk) 13:38, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Okay, 3865 was killed but the bot just isn’t doing anything. Remagoxer (talk) 18:16, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

There's an issue with the workers that require manual coaxing to move them forward for some reason. Still investigating.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:50, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Apparent barf when run on article with AfD header

Examples include Phorum and Mullvad. I was able to run it on Mullvad by temporary removal of the AfD header. The failure results of a dump to the page that appears to be a combination of the article page source and what appears like bits of code. Example [1] and one or two either sides. The failed runs dont apply an edit. Version: IABot Management Interface (v2.0beta15; checkIfDead v1.8) Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 20:58, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

I'd noticed I have a similar issue on New Ross which does not contain an AfD template ... sorry cannot be more helpful. (actually the census footnote in the url contains ... deadurl=bot: unknown which looks a little strange. Sorry can't be more help.Djm-leighpark (talk) 12:08, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

Created phab T226333. -- GreenC 14:15, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

@Djm-leighpark: - it would be best to follow up on Phab as that is where 100s of trouble tickets are tracked over many months, talk pages don't really work well for this kind of thing. It is where most Wikipedia development work happens. See further comments there. -- GreenC 14:18, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot screwed up some ELs

Hi Cyberpower678, most of the changes in this edit ([2]) were expanding archive.is links to archive.today links. They were all fine (Thanks!) except for that the wrong date format was used and that some stray spaces were inserted before the closing brackets (already discussed). However, further down in that article under "External links" there is an arrangements of links allowing interested users to browse various archived websites of this historically relevant company, that's why links matching specifically given start and end dates were provided. Archived links before and after these dates are invalid, usurped by other companies or otherwise not relevant in the context of this article, that's why these ranges were given. For unknown reasons, IABot modified some of these links, changing dates, and it removed others and made a mess out of the descriptive text between them. I have restored the previous arrangement ([3]), but since the old links were (and are) working fine exactly as desired I'm not sure what IABot was trying to achieve here in the first place. Greetings, --Matthiaspaul (talk) 20:59, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Cyberpower will know but it looks like it might be new code to fix duplicate URLs? In my experience duplicates existed with {{webarchive}} duplicates I don't recall seeing bare/square link duplicates before though. -- GreenC 14:24, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

cyberbot I - Admin stats

As far as I can determine, the bot has not updated Admin stats since June 3. Should we be inquiring elsewhere about this bot? Or are you still restarting it?— Maile (talk) 00:32, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

It seems to only blank user's subpages for adminstats when they are no longer an administrator or account creator. For example Ansh666 and Od Mishehu were done after the 3rd of June. Probably means an issue then with detecting particular statistic(s) and this problem does not seem to stop all users who use the template to be checked for the necessary rights. Maybe there was a change to the API which has affected this around the 3rd of June? Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 14:40, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
Hmmm. I don't necessarily understand what that means. But looking through the bot history on June 3, the admin template names that appear before and after mine, also have not been updated since June 3. Looks like maybe all the admin template names updated on that run, have not updated since. All I can say, is that I'm still an admin. — Maile (talk) 18:49, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
Maile66 Basically, the bot is still removing adminstats information from users who have their administrator (or account creator) rights removed. However, the bot is not carrying out any other tasks. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 19:39, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot at the Spanish Wikipedia

Hello Cyberpower678,

Is possible to change your configured signature at the Spanish Wikipedia to be linked to the User (and also Talk page) at the Spanish Wikipedia? Thanks. --Amitie 10g (talk) 00:07, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

IABot not at all working

Don't get it? Enter Kalyana Parisu in the page title to analyze field, tick Add archives to all non-dead references (Optional) and click analyze. But it won't add any archives. Instead, you get a long page full of HTML codes. Why? What went wrong? --Kailash29792 (talk) 05:22, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Having trouble with the archives

Lately I have been having trouble with broken archive.org links. Looking at a typical page Bombing of Rome in World War II, it seemed at first when I clicked on links that they were all broken. I looked at a link:

https://web.archive.org/web/20140202213215/http://rcslibri.corriere.it/bombardatelitalia/bombardate1943.pdf

It did not work. I got an empty page. On querying the API myself, I got:

http://web.archive.org/web/20140202213215/http://rcslibri.corriere.it/bombardatelitalia/bombardate1943.pdf

It appears that the https version does not work. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:22, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

They both work for me. Still not working? -- GreenC 14:21, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

No. Only the http version works. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:31, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
Cleared the cache and it is working again now. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 12:36, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

ActiveStats on Wikidata

Hey. Since June 3 the ActiveStats on Wikidata is erroneous. This is probably related with the introduction of the new actor reference table (phab:T167246). I would appreciate it very much if you could fix the script. Thanks. --Pasleim (talk) 12:24, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

IABot broken link

Hi Cyberpower, I noticed that in this edit from last October, IABot incorrectly added an archive link to this page (an error page) when it could have linked to this page instead. The bot might also have incorrectly marked the then-current page as not dead. In case this isn't still an issue with the bot, would you mind looking into this? Thanks, Jc86035 (talk) 10:44, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Please use https://tools.wmflabs.org/iabot to correct URL data issues.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:51, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
I'm trying to use the interface. I am unable to set the URL as dead, because the domain or URL has been incorrectly whitelisted (the link currently returns a 404, and so does the archive link originally added to the Microsoft Notepad article). I haven't made any changes for now. Jc86035 (talk) 07:23, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jc86035: Log into the interface. "Modify URL Data" from the menu. Enter URL https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/59578 then change archive URL to https://web.archive.org/web/20150317213210/http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/59578 -- that would be what you want I think. --GreenC 13:26, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

@GreenC: "URL data error: The archive snapshot you are trying to add doesn't match the original URL." (The working link was archived as HTTP instead of HTTPS.) I am also not sure what to do with "Last seen access time" (currently 2018-10-12). "Live status" is still wrong and there is no option to change it. Jc86035 (talk) 08:47, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@Jc86035: Check option box "override validation checks" - I tried it and it went through. -- GreenC 15:55, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

Rename clerking bot

Hi Cyberpower678. Can you take a look at Special:Diff/903494517? It looks like those accounts exist but the bot is saying they don't. Thanks, 28bytes (talk) 01:43, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

A Small Malfunction

@Cyberpower678: Hello, there! I am a regular user in Bengali Wikipedia and also a reviewer of pending changes. When I was reviewing the changes made by the bot in the BN wiki page রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, the bot detected a citation as a dead-URL while I visited the website and it seemed okay to me. For this reason, I request you to check if there's actually any malfunction in this bot or not. Thank you! -- Bang Bang50 (talk) 15:56, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

It's no malfunction. False positives can happen due to a number of reasons.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:31, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Cyberbot I issues with archiving RFPP

Hello Cyberpower678,

Seems that Cyberbot I has been having some issues recently with archiving entries of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection too early. I assume that Cyberbot I archives discussions/section with any transcluded form of {{RFPP}} after a certain amount of time since the last edit in that section? If that is the case, that is a bit problematic in discussions where the only transclusion(s) of {{RFPP}} are {{RFPP|q}}, {{RFPP|ques}}, {{RFPP|n}}, and/or {{RFPP|note}}. With these values for parameter 1, the requests have not actually been responded to in a manner where they have been approved or denied. To correct this issue in one such archiving, I had to perform this edit to correct Cyberbot I after it performed this edit. Steel1943 (talk) 21:59, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

No Cyberbot distinguishes each response. It might be a config issue, regarding discussion timeouts.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:26, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
@Steel1943: See User:Cyberbot I/RFPP.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:33, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Readability of User:cyberbot II signature

Hello, Cyberpower678. Signature of User:cyberbot II is a bit hard to read, especially when it overlaps nearby text. Examples: one and two. Please adjust it to be more readable per WP:SIGAPP. —andrybak (talk) 11:13, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Andrybak, looks fine to me. Cyberbot has been using this signature for almost 5 years now.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:29, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Cyberpower678, I assumed that it looks fine to you, otherwise you wouldn't have used it for your bot. I'm just reporting that's it hard to read for me. —andrybak (talk) 16:33, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Cyberbot is getting a code overhaul. Once that happens, it's signature will be updated to a more clean look.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:34, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

There was an archive URL associated with the original which, per the template's behavior, implies that the URL is dead. All IABot did was make it explicit.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:32, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

IABot stuck again...

Another Daniel C. Boyer sock IP has appeared

Hi Cyberpower. I've noticed another IP that looks a lot like Daniel C. Boyer. This one is 65.88.88.69 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) who has repeated Boyer's edits at Perspiration and Marmalade with near-identical edit summaries. I've added this to the SPI case, but thought I'd mention it here too. Thanks, Railfan23 (talk) 19:06, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I hope this involves being able to fix the add-archives-to-all-non-dead-references-not-working glitch. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:05, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
Kailash29792, remind me about this glitch? I know there's an issue where the bot times out and loads a blank page.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:08, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
...and a page full of HTML coding. But it's not often; it's always. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:10, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I think I had previously reported this blaming the presence of a AfD header as the reason. ... in practice I am now reasonably sure the issue is when I click the optionaladd archives (cant remember the exact title) checkbox and have stopped using that option (Which means I have to do a lot more manual archiving). Only saying this to try to be a little more helpful.Djm-leighpark (talk) 03:41, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

False positive for InternetArchiveBot

Hi, I tried using the reporting tool, but for some reason it doesn't accept the URL that I tried to feed it. The bot has multiple times tagged https://cassi.cas.org/search.jsp as dead, but the link is live and as far as I can see never even was down when it got tagged. An example of this is here. Thanks. --Randykitty (talk) 10:46, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

I need more details. What do you mean it didn't accept it?—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 15:32, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Well, it said something like "that URL is not in the database" and then I could not click the "submir" button, only "return". --Randykitty (talk) 16:24, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

Chips for you

Deadlinks of IABot

Hello. Why does your bot mark links as dead while the links is active? See [6], [7]. --SkоrP24 17:13, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Skorp24, it's converting WebCite links to something more reliable, but the fact that it's marking them as dead is definitely concerning. This most definitely a bug.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 17:18, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
If I delete all inclusions "deadlink=yes" from the articles, will the bot have marked dead links correctly in them? --SkоrP24 18:40, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
@Skorp24 ... I admit to page stalking here but dead-link=yes can be set manually (I sometimes do it) to cover the situation where the page link is valid but a particular old version is known. While IABot can use access-dates or other clever things to help but ultlimately a mk. 1 human should be left to override when necessary.Djm-leighpark (talk) 18:52, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
