"in olden times"? makes sense, doesn't it. I don't know where it is attested though. dab () 13:11, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I studied Sanskrit for the last two years (translating from San to Eng, not Hindi) and we translated the phrase Kadacit, which I have now added as 'Once upon a time'. DaGizza Chat (c) 21:24, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deeptrivia - I've rmvd the Spanish map according to your suggestion. I was also uneasy if I had done everything right regarding its copyright status. If there is a problem with that image, I don't want this article involved.

Please have a look at the intro passage: I've had to re-tool and re-tool the intro ever since the review began. I need your direct opinion on whether its good - please feel free to make your own edits, since the advice of others is good but doesn't pinpoint how they would have it done.

Thanks for all your help so far! I hope this article will reach above the FA-bar by this weekend. Rama's Arrow 17:55, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I know I should be more patient. I only felt that things would reach a head by the beginning of next week. My hesitation is that if we keep the review for too long, we might get over-analytical. Most of the changes made are upon the advice of guys in peer review. Most changes are to the intro sections and with the maps, and many sections are untouched. I think this article has improved, thanks to guys like you, by over 50-60%. A week ago there were no maps or images, and the intro was 2 lines!

I'm just excited coz if this baby wins FA status, it will be a big victory for Indian Wikipedians, and a special, if small tribute to Sardar Patel. Its a big deal that we've put together an article about the most sensitive events regarding our country's formation.

I'm not gonna do anything before its FA-ready, and when I have your vote of confidence. Rama's Arrow 16:03, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images from Flickr[edit]

Hi DT, some nice images, Thanks. However, consider that by default the images are goverened by Yahoo TOS and are copyrighted by Flickr. Am not very sure if they fall under CC (as you have mentioned at commons). The only (slight) possibility aprears to be of {Non-free fair use in|} for a given article, that too subject to the respective admin's clearance at commons. Hope you have acquired the required permissions from the authors. --Rgds. ΜιĿːtalk 09:51, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Some of the images on Flickr are marked with CC. Am sure you have used only those. Please ignore the above message in that case (a slight oversite on my part, I guess). --ΜιĿːtalk 09:56, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Barnstar and PII[edit]

Hey no problemo holmes, you deserved the special medal.

On the sections of "Integrating the Union", I'm changing the focus more on issues of integration (i.e. cultural clash, separatism, underdevelopment) rather than just listing the changes of state names and boundaries. I think that purpose should be inculcated into the intro which discusses the later sections. Rama's Arrow 17:07, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

time zone of states[edit]

Indians know that the time zone for all states is the same. But what about ppl from other countries looking for information - they will have to cross ref with India and then 'deduce' the fact that India has only one ST, even though countries of comparable size have been known to have 2.

Its time[edit]

Hi Deeptrivia - its time for the FA nomination of Political integration of India. I have three important requests to make - (1) Can you please check the images on copyright. Many of them are PD-generic, which is outdated. Will this be a problem in FAs? (2) Will 42kb be ok? Malwa and Kerala are 38kb, so I don't think there should be a problem. (3) Can you please undertake a final reading of the article?

I want to put up this article for the vote by Tuesday, Jan 24. Please let me know what you think. Thanks! Rama's Arrow 05:31, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

in the "Conflicting Agendas" section, I added the perspective of a prominent Pakistani historian to counter Rajmohan Gandhi. I think that will help enormously in staving off conflict. I will make one final round of edits in the morning, and set up the vote. I know that as self-nominator, I'm not supposed to vote. I'm also worried that Sundar and Miljoshi are on breaks. Its not wise to solicite, but I'm gonna have to "inform" others of the vote.

Listen, thanks a million for your help. Even if this article fails FA vote, its been a great pleasure to work with you. I've learnt a lot. Ramji ki Jai! Rama's Arrow 06:12, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Malwapoppy.jpg[edit]

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Malwapoppy.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Matt 13:05, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Important question: I scanned and uploaded images from a Lothal book I have (had to alter some properities as well). Does this make me the creator of the images? If not, can I license them under PD-Govt.ofIndia? They are presently PD-generic. Rama's Arrow 21:44, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I joined the Wikiproject. You can count on me to produce a some more FA candidacies on history articles. I basically identify a few problems - writing history articles takes a copious effort (extensive referencing)- which makes it possibly unattractive a task. And South Asians (myself included) are very immature at times with the kind of edits and conflicts they make. I attribute it to the fact that a new generation of Indians, Pakistanis, etc...are trying to discover their identity and place in the world - they need their history to inspire their identity.
Anywayz, history was always natural to me, and I don't carry any pyscho-nationality burdens. Let's make Lothal the Wikiproject's first FA. Jai Sri Rama! Rama's Arrow 05:23, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lothal images[edit]

Hi - I'm having trouble deciding on the appropriate tag. Wikipedia is objecting to the tag you suggested, and PD-India doesn't work either. Is it correct for me to claim PD-self, given that I scanned and altered properties of the images? Rama's Arrow 17:22, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the reasoning for removing the double aa's but why the final a? Is it pronounced for something like this because it is Sanskrit derived, or were the final a's just not droppped in the language until after this time? - Taxman Talk 17:47, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Freedom in Iran box[edit]

Are you talking about: {{User Free Iran}}

How can this be offensive?!

- Ok I changed it, do you think its better now?

- Well I dont know if people would be offended or not, but I thought it may give some people the impression that Iran already has freedom!

I dont think it matters whether or not it is offensive (it isnt to me), but I think you can be sure that it will be deleted sooner or later by some admin, because User:Jimbo Wales (WP founder) has decided that political boxes be removed from WP unfortunately, and some Iranian article admins (such as User:wikiacc) are already putting the decision into effect.--Zereshk 03:37, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rumi[edit]

ooh. thats a hard question. and the reason is that, in the case of Rumi, many translators, such as Coleman Barks adhere to the concept school of translation: They dont exactly translate verse for verse, word for word, and ignore the rhyming, but instead try to extract the meaning and essence of the poem. more like a paraphrase.

I have no idea what the original was. or where. Rumi has thousands and thousands of couplets and ghazals.

I suggest you try tracing who translated the line into English. (from which translation it came from). Then we can identify which one of Rumi's works it came from (e.g. Fih-i ma fihe, Mathnavi Manavi, Divan-i Shams,...). And from there, it shouldnt take too long to find the original.

Sorry. That's the best I can do. :) --Zereshk 05:40, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Querry for adding a new page[edit]

Hi, For the last few days, I am in the process of editing my alma-matar(IIT Kharagpur)'s wikipedia entry. What I want to do is create a new wikipedia page for the slangs used in IIT Kharagpur, which is a complete dictionary. As I have created the dictionary myself from scratch, there shouldn't be a copyright issue. All I wanted to know is that does wikipedia allows such dictionaries to be put up on wikipedia, or should I just put an external link for it? Thanks, Ambuj.saxena 05:33, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The response should be: Don't do it. WP:NFT. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:32, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
