This might interest you

I didn't quote you, but as you can see I tried to see if it applied to an image from a state park.[1] Doug Weller talk 14:05, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

My blurb is actually a simplified version, the truth is copyright law is very complex. In order to determine the copyright status of the plaque, we need to know its location and what year it was put up. Since it dates to prior to 1978, it might be PD if it was never copyrighted and/or if its copyright was never renewed. There's a copyright renewal database at Stanford but it takes a certain amount of knowledge and skill to use. I would guess that these plaques were never copyrighted, since they don't display a copyright notice. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:28, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I'm sure you're right. Doug Weller talk 19:21, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

New article containing copy-paste

When you have a moment, could you please have a look at the notice I left a user regarding the creation of Turkic people of Iran (which has been nominated for deletion) and the attribution notes I made for one section of it? I didn’t go through the whole article in the hope that the user will follow my example, so I want to make sure it’s correct. The paragraph in question (and at least one more) also appeared in Earwig’s tool at the Iran Gazette but I suspect they copied from us rather than the converse.—Odysseus1479 22:18, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Odysseus; your sample edit summary is perfect. However I betcha the user will not follow through and provide edit summaries for the other copyings. You may wind up having to do it all yourself. Regarding http://www.irangazette.com/en/12/102-ethnicities-in-iran.html, it's impossible to say, since the Wayback Machine has never archived that page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:41, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. I agree we can’t be sure; my suspicion is based on the fact that “and in the neighboring regions of Turkmenistan up to beyond the Amu Darya River” (a somewhat peculiar phrasing) was added to the Khorasani Turks paragraph, a few weeks after its creation five years ago, by a different editor, while a lack of history at archive.org would suggest the IG page is fairly new—although if they got their 1-M population figure from our infobox it must have been before this past February.
Is there a way to use {{Copied}} that accommodates multiple source articles copied at once, or should there be a separate instance for each? (Obviously separate templates would be needed on each source’s Talk page regardless.)—Odysseus1479 23:10, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Looking at the source code, I would have to say No. Each instance will need a separate template. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:15, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
  • I'll see if I can't tweak that template, as I've encountered this too... one target article with a dozen Copied's on it. CrowCaw 23:17, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the guidance

Appreciate your guidance on editing the Arch Street Presbyterian Church page. I'm new at this, so didn't realize it was problematic to take text from the church history page on its website. ScanIP changes

Dear Diannaa - you have made changes to the ScanIP page that I would like to clarify - you cite a potential conflict of interest and copyright violation on the material uploaded. However, I am an employee working for the company that owns the copyright, and was updating our current list of features for the product - although I understand from your comments that the conflict of interest would need to be stated, the information presented is technical data (an update to software features) and not intended as an opinion or endorsement of our product. Is it better then to update this information through proposed changes? Also, the potential copyright violation you cite appears to contradict the conflict of interest, as the changes were made by the copyright holder. Please also note that this information is available for free on our website http://simpleware.com/files/techdata/techData_ScanIP.pdf and has been reproduced in order to make the Wikipedia page up-to-date. Thank you in advance for your help on this. 09:31, 2 November 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Simpleware wiki (talkcontribs)

You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.

Another problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. I've posted some information on this topic on your user talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:26, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Diannaa - I will take a look and try to make the relevant changes. Please comment if anything is still incomplete or doesn't follow the guidelines.Simpleware wiki (talk) 11:33, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

I have now added the Paid Connected Contributor COI statement to my user page and the Talk page for ScanIP. At present I have no edits to request, but in future will do so through the Request edit feature. Please let me know if there is anything that needs to be changed/edited re: conflict of interest declarations. Thanks.Simpleware wiki (talk) 17:34, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

‎Release history in the Adobe Premiere Pro article

Hi.

Minutes ago, I discovered a section called "‎Release history" in the Adobe Premiere Pro to be brimming with content copied and pasted from their corresponding sources and removed them. But I am not sure which of the past revisions should be marked for suppression. Can you please advise?

Thanks in advance

Best regards,

Content Creation

Hi Diannaa. I have this article: Prof. Dr Johannes Benzing. I seem to have very little content on him, even though he is supposed to be brilliant. He lived in a period of time and a work function of a particular type which was both secret and obscure. I found this: [[2]], by chance, on Glottopedia, which is the encyclopedia for linguists. I've noticed they use the licence the article as follows: Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 . Am I able to use some of the text, without running into any license problemo. Thanks. scope_creep (talk) 21:58, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

There's no problem importing that content as long as you provide proper attribution. You can see an example of how to do it at citation #1 in Interception of Communications Commissioner. However, glottopedia is a wiki, and cannot be construed as being a reliable source. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:03, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

With regards to changes made to 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship

I really just copied the information from the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which uses the exact same competition format and rules structure. It was just copying tie breaker rules, I wasn't writing new bio info or something like that, so I didn't think it violated the rules, but thank you for helping.

Thank you for letting me know about this. I will remove it from that article as well. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:06, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Adam Cooley Uploads

Since you posted the notice here, you may want to take a look at Draft:Adam Cooley, since it seems that the problem persists, and many of the images deleted for copyright issues look like they've simply been reuploaded under slightly different names. TimothyJosephWood 12:45, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

These images are at the Commons, not here. I have nominated them for deletion there, see commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Adam Cooley self portrait 224.jpg. Thank you for reporting — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:58, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Messiah ben Joseph

Hello Diannaa. I don't understand why you deleted my addition on 4Q372 on the basis of copyright. The short text was my own words and the pdf link is in the public domain. Can you please explain? Ronny Cohen (talk) 21:01, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

@Ronny Cohen: Identical wording is used in the paper A Dying and Rising Josephite Messiah in 4Q372 by David C. Mitchell, which was published in the Journal for the Study of the Pseudepigrapha March 2009 vol. 18 no. 3 181–2. There's no indication that paper has been released into the public domain. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:09, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

A request

Hi. I just wanted to ask for your help. There's an article on Wikipedia about a TV series but a user has created a separate article for its upcoming season which honestly isn't that much important to have a separate page and actually consists of only three lines and the information on it is wrong and unsourced. Is it possible for you to delete it? He has also uploaded a photo of an actress which I doubt is free and probably should be deleted as well. Thanks. Keivan.fTalk 23:41, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

I've turned [[Muhteşem Yüzyıl Kösem "Bağdat Fatihi 4. Murat" into a redirect, and nominated the image for F11 speedy deletion. Thanks for reporting, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:07, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Help with deletion log

I had some material deleted from an article due to copyright violations. Sorry for that. I'm having problems getting the deletions to come up on the deletion log. I'm putting in the following information.

  • "deletion log"
  • Performer - Diannaa
  • Target title - Shooting of James Boyd
  • From year - 2016
  • From month - November
  • Tag filter (left blank)
  • Type of deletion - all

When this is entered, I get this result. "13:24, November 3, 2016 Diannaa (talk | contribs) changed visibility of 7 revisions on page Shooting of James Boyd: content hidden (RD1: Copyright violations)"

How can I make the deletions visible so I can make the appropriate revisions?

Thanks for your help. Beanyandcecil (talk) 03:52, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

The source web page was http://www.patriotledger.com/news/20160921/albuquerque-police-make-strides-in-2-years-since-s, and the material you copied was the two paragraphs starting with "In a report this summer, ..." — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:01, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
The "Difference Between Revisions" page said that there were seven revisions that were reverted. Do you have information on the other six? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beanyandcecil (talkcontribs) 22:57, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
The only content that was removed is the stuff I already told you about. The way revision deletion works is that all the intervening diffs have to be hidden in order to completely remove the material from the page history. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:00, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks for your help. Beanyandcecil (talk) 00:04, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Request for page protection of the Sardinians and Corsicans articles

Hi, Diannaa. I am so sorry I have to disturb you once again for the same reason I already requested your assistance a while ago. There are in fact two anonymous IPs engaged in edit war on these two pages (1 and 2). In particular, one of them tries to remove the reliably sourced info the first one has posted on the basis of his/her own personal POV, without the consent of other users. It's always the same guy, even if it has different IPs (I also tried several times to tell him/her it'd be time to create a single account, to no avail). I hereby make a request for the protection of these two pages... For a long time.--Dk1919 (talk) 11:06, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Contesting Deletion of Security_BSides

Good Morning Dianna,

Apologies for the lack of citations and the accidental copyright violations on Security_BSides; I've already contested the page once and provided justification but I will continue to add to the page over the weekend to bring it on par with the Black_Hat_Briefings and DEF CON security conferences which both are slowly getting better with original content. I'm still reading through all the rules and guidelines out there so apologies for the mixup. It is not my intention to abandon these pages but to continue to improve them and provide visibility into the ever growing security field. This is one of the largest community supported conferences that have popped up all over the world. I'll go back and at the very least

  • Add references to each page
  • Rewrite the content that is already there
  • Link each BSides conference to their official page
  • Add a section on significance and impact to the community
  • Add a section on history and culture
  • Link other applicable security related links and tags

Again, please accept my apologies and do not delete the article for another few days until it meets your standards.

Aghassemlouei (talk) 15:30, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

You also need to address the copyright issue, as much of the content is copied from http://www.securitybsides.com/w/page/12194138/BSides, a copyright web page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:36, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Completely understand as all of the content will be rewritten. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aghassemlouei (talkcontribs) 15:40, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution

I did report on copying from the Senescence page Talk:Cellular senescence, but perhaps you would prefer another form of attribution, which would be more "proper". The Cellular senescence page contains a mixture of copied material, plus material added by me, so it would be misleading to say that all of the material was copied. I believe that Cellular senescence deserves a page of its own, and I intend to add "Main article" to the Senescence page section on cellular senescence. --Ben Best:Talk 15:37, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

What you need to do is say in your edit summary that the content was copied, and provide a link back to the source page. Here is a sample edit summary. Posting on the talk page is optional; the edit summary is not. Please see WP:copying within Wikipedia for further information. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:43, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

It's okay to use that article as a source, but don't do any direct copying. Clicking through to the actual paper, you can see it says at the top "Copyright © David Mitchell". In fact, under current copyright law, literary works are subject to copyright whether they are tagged as such or not. Hi Diannaa. Thanks for your help at Father Saturnino Urios University. I have a feeling that this will probably not be the last time you or another admin will have to revdel copyrighted content from that article's history. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:50, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Let's watch-list it — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:52, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
I have the article on my watchlist and noticed the IP's edits, but couldn't figure out for sure if they were a copyvio. So, I asked about them at User talk:C.Fred#Father Saturnino Urios University, but JJMC89 was able to find the exact site where the content came from first. It seems there are a number of editors watching the article based upon how quickly this was dealt with. Maybe that will help discourage future similar edits. For reference, the socking related to this and other similar articles was not just on Wikipedia, but it was also happening at Commons regarding image licensing, etc. Most of the known registered socks have already been indef'd on both sites, which might mean more edits to the article from IPs in the future. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Userrights question

Hi Diannaa. While I've got you on the phone, I am wondering if you would not mind taking a look at Husseinajamii. The editor has added a "pending changes" icon to the top of their userpage, but they do not have that right (yet). They were advised about this here by JudeccaXIII, but the talk page post was deleted and the icon still remains. Any ideas on how to best proceed in a case like this? -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:17, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

I have removed the icon and left the user a note. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:24, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Marchjuly & Diannaa It was annoying enough to have to wait for the user to remove his/her Autopatrolled topicon when I asked to have both topicons back in June 2016 removed. I completely forgot about the Pending changes topicon though, or I think the user just ignored me as he/she did today. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 00:32, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

No doubt! since they created the now-deleted article Hussein Ajami !! But there's been no edits from that account since June, so it's too late for check-user. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:44, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear Diana, I am a worker at the USC Institute of Armenian Studies and I am trying to build our wikipedia page. None of the photos are copyrighted as I have full permission to use them and the photo of the institute was actually taken with my phone and there is no reason to remove them from the site. Also, our mission is very important to describe who we are and what we work towards. We are not a corporate company, we are a non-profit research institution under the branch of the University of Southern California. Zavenz (talk) 07:54, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. Contesting a "speedy deletion" ??

I am trying to create a wiki for the electronic music artists Cubicolor, and so I copied and pasted the Anjuna press release text into a wiki yesterday (my first time) but then it was "speedily deleted" (by you?) -- So I want to ask, is the text of a press release copyrighted, especially when the exact same text appears in various places (YouTube, SoundCloud, etc) or if the text had been attributed to its source, would that have solved the problem?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jams333 (talkcontribs) 10:32, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Under current copyright law, literary works are subject to copyright whether they are tagged as such or not. This includes press releases, stuff on Facebook and LinkedIn, and stuff on YourTube. No registration is required, and no copyright notice is required. So please always assume that all material you find online is copyright. Exceptions include works of the US Government and material specifically released under license. Even then, proper attribution is required. Sardinian people page

Hello again, Diannaa. There is a long-lasting conflict between me and some other users on one side, and a guy operating under several IPs on the other one, as you can see on the proper talk page and the history section. I'm sightly confused: were it something involving only me and him/her (that is, only two parties disagreeing on something), I would have asked for a third opinion without esitation, but other people have intervened over the (long) time we've spent on the "controversial" point, all supporting my view (basically, it's about simply changing part of the introduction with "Sardinians are a native and indigenous ethnic group"). The guy is also an edit-warrior who refuses to listen to other people's opinions, belittling them and the sources to be "nationalist", and it's not the first time that the page has been protected to avoid disruptive editing. This thing is, I don't know what to do anymore. It's not that I've run out of arguments, quite the contrary, but I've got the impression that the anonymous guy won't listen to me anyway, just keeping on with his reverting attitude through several IPs with the intention of wearing the others out in the process. I'm lost. I (that is, we, taking also into consideration the other users) could keep talking over with him / her to no end without ever going anywhere. The edit I'm in favour of ain't nothing "revolutionary", God forbid, it's just meant to be more specific with regard to the ethnic group to which the page, the sources, and the infobox all refer. What could I possibly do, in your honest opinion?--Dk1919 (talk) 11:37, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

What I always do when faced with an intractable content dispute is start an RFC to draw more editors to the page. See Wikipedia:Requests for comment. Follow the instructions carefully so as to ensure random people are invited to the discussion. Make sure your question is neutrally worded and clear. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:17, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, Diannaa. As of now, there is a majority of users having expressed themselves to be in favour of the edit, in spite of the edit warrior. But, were the situation to deteriorate, I'll call in other users abiding by that route you mentioned. In the meantime, if you don't mind, would you keep an eye on that page? Thank you again.--Dk1919 (talk) 13:31, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Query, I can't move pages via menu?

Hi Diannaa,
You reviewed a redirect I created via a page move to D.B.S. Post Graduate College ,Kanpur. This prompted me to look at that pages' original creators' edits, and found a new page Integrative Oncology Center,Noida that I thought should be moved back to its earlier title Integrative Oncology Center.

However I then found that "Move page" was not present on the "Page" (or any other) menu. I was able to move the page by reverting the edit.

Any idea why the 'Move page' function is missing? Regards 220 of Borg 01:49, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Well, almost 12 hours later and the "Move page" function is back! Very odd. 220 of Borg 13:14, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
I don't know why that would have happened. I might be the wrong person to ask regardless, because page move behaves differently for admins. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:42, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
Meh! I only 'stuck' you with the query because (per above) you reviewed a redirect I 'made', that then led to me discovering I couldn't move a page, directly anyway.

Copyright Question

Hello Diannaa could would you be willing to look at Talk:Patrol Music a user expressed a concern that the article was a direct translation of a website that is in another language, and that it could be a copy right issue. Thanks! --Cameron11598 (Talk) 05:24, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

You wrote: "Song lyrics from 1942 are likely still under copyright, so we can't include them here." Please check the article link - the author, Hirsh Glick, died in 1944. This makes the lyrics public domain in countries with 70-year or less rules; according to List of countries' copyright lengths this is the case in Lithuania. Also compare Zog nit keyn mol. Thanks, --QEDquid (talk) 15:55, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Since our servers are located in the United States, we also have to comply with US copyright law, which has a different set of rather complex rules. Please see commons:Commons:Hirtle chart, specifically the section "Works Published Abroad Before 1978". — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:59, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, AFAICS none of the cases under "Works Published Abroad Before 1978" apply - The work was not "published" in the US by the definition linked from the chart, and it is in the public domain in Lithuania. If you disagree, please point out exactly why you believe PD does not apply, not just by linking a table. --QEDquid (talk) 16:09, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
So are you saying that it was published without compliance with US formalities, and in the public domain in its source country as of URAA date? If so, the content can be restored. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:12, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Rebate plane vs Rabbet plane

Dear Diannaa

I attempted to swap the pages for "Rebate plane" and "Rabbet plane". You corrected this because my method would mess up the page history. (Thank you for that correction). Per your suggestion I tried to move the pages, but I don't have the required privilege to move a page to another existing page.

My reason for trying to make "Rabbet plane" the page with the content and have the "Rebate plane" be redirected to it is that "Rabbet plane" is the more correct term. Please go to wiki page "Rabbet" to confirm that a rabbet is a particular groove cut in wood. A rabbet plane is a tool to make such a groove. Manufacturers of planes (i.e. experts) also refer to it as rabbet plane. The term "rebate plane" is also used by people, particular in England, so it should be mentioned as a synonym in the article.

If you agree that the term "rabbet plane" is more appropriate, please swap the pages.

Thanks,

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. Copyright issue

Hello Diannaa. As you're a copyright expert, perhaps you could advise on the course of action at Felsham. An editor has pasted the contents of a copyrighted website onto the article, but says he is the copyright owner (in an edit summary). Number 57 20:48, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

It might have been obvious to you but not to me. Thank you for your time. Benkenobi18 (talk) 22:23, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Sorry for being a jerk. Benkenobi18 (talk) 22:33, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for the apology. The edit was reported by a bot as being a copyright violation, as the bot found identical prose elsewhere online, specifically in the webpage http://www.summit.org/about/faculty-bios/Gnew/. The same material appears at two other locations online (here and here), and appears to be a biolerplate bio that Adams provides when he is hired somewhere for a speaking engagement. In addition to the paragraph I sent you by email, there was the unique phraseology "in the wake of the 911 terror attacks", "In addition to lecturing on the First Amendment, Adams is actively involved in legal challenges to campus censorship", and "Adams, then an atheist and a Democrat, was hired by UNC-Wilmington to teach in the criminal justice program."

How to avoid copyright violations: Content has to be written in your own words and not inclusive of the source material at all. It's been suggested that not so much as three words should be together in the same order as the source. One thing I find that works for me is to read over the source material and then pretend I am verbally describing the topic to a friend in my own words. Stuff should also be presented in a different order where possible. Summarize rather than paraphrase. This will typically result in your version being much shorter than the source document. There's some reading material on this topic at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing and/or have a look at the material at Purdue. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:38, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

How to deal with a vandal IP

Hi Diannaa, do you remember the thing going on in the Sardinians page? Now that it's been protected for a while (it turned out the IP has been doing all this not on the basis of a content debate, but just for the sake of internet flame), the ever-changing-IP anonymous has started to revert other random things as his target, making gratuitous edits like this and this. I think the vandal is operating on purpose to make me break the three revert rule (which I did, unfortunately). I don't know what you Administrators could do when dealing with such things, maybe you could block the IP but he/she's always changing it to escape any sanction. Anyway, it can be expected that the guy operating like this will get back on the Sardinians page to vandalize it, once the protection expires. So, I've been wondering what it takes for a page to be indefinitely semi-protected for autentified users only, since the IP guy has been acting like that for years. Thanks in advance for the reply!--Dk1919 (talk) 13:29, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

The word "vandal" should probably not be used, as the person thinks he is helping, not harming. This appears to me to be a content dispute, not vandalism, but I don't know enough about the subject matter to say for sure. The reason the user's IP keeps changing is because it's a dynamic IP, which may mean he is editing from a cell phone or other mobile device, and his internet service provider is assigning a new IP each time he uses the device. It is unlikely that he is doing it intentionally to avoid scrutiny. It's difficult to communicate with dynamic IPs since by the time you post a talk page message, their service provider has assigned them a new IP. I suggest you post remarks regarding his edits and why you think they're incorrect on the talk page of the article concerned. Indefinite semi-protection is only used when short-term protection has failed. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:48, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
I am not a vandal. I am only trying to keep Wikipedia.en neutral from a user @Dk1919 who is clearly trying edits after edits to impose its point of view. Please @Diannaa could you have a look of his edits agenda? He uses nationalist blogs to source his info and he intentionally translates differently Italian and Sardinian laws to justify its edits. He is a single-purpose user. And about the page Sardinians he used IPs and sockpuppets to trigger an edit war and after pretending to be the moderate user and imposing and editing that, after several attempts during the last years.--93.36.5.39 (talk) 13:57, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
As I said, if you think I've provided "nationalist" sources for the page and even used sockpuppets, I already invited you to report the thing to an Administrator that'll investigate on the matter. I've got nothing to hide, anyway. :) Surely, these are not things proving your point, it seems more like an unpleasant personal dispute than anything else. In the meantime, please create an account of your own. --Dk1919 (talk) 14:05, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I also suggest you create an account, so as to make communication easier. There's other advantages, such as access to a watch-list, the notification service, and the email service. Draft:Charles and Patricia Lester

Hi Diannaa. Could you take a look at Draft:Charles and Patricia Lester when you get a chance? It was tagged for speedy per WP:G11 and WP:G12, but the draft's creator removed the tags. I think that she means well, but she's a new editor and probably just is trying to figure things out. She also appears to have a COI per c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Charles-and-Patricia-w.jpg. Anyway, there may still be copyvio content in some of the previous versions of the article which need to be WP:REVDEL, but not sure if the entire draft needs to be deleted since she seems to be trying to rewrite it in her own words. She also appears to be working on a duplicate draft at User:Vikki Kerry/sandbox when probably only one is needed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:26, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I have done revision deletion on both copies of the draft. The current versions are okay from a copyright point of view. I don't see any harm in a duplicate draft in the sandbox, and it doesn't fit any speedy deletion criterion. Thanks for reporting. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:26, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Diannaa.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Copyright infringement in LOEWE (fashion brand) Wikipedia page

Hi Diannaa,

I'm new to wikipedia (I made an account last week) and I am a temporary worker at the Loewe marketing department. I have been tasked with updating Loewe's wikipedia page to include more up-to-date information, and because my bosses feel that the english Loewe page is too small.

I have re-worded the wikipedia article that I originally had posted (which was simply copy-pasted from Loewe's official website), and believe that the new one is in-keeping with Wikipedia's code of conduct and official guidelines about copyright infringement. I would, however, like to ask you for your help in formatting the article and adding the new information, just to make sure that I don't commit any new copyright infringements and that the information I upload will not be deleted.

I have several questions:

  1. Since photographs that I would like to upload to the page are all offical Loewe photographs, I would like to know how to prove that the pictures have been added with Loewe's consent (it is important since I have been asked to add these pictures specifically)
  2. How do I declare a conflict of interest, and how much will that impact what I can upload onto the wiki? (I'm basically just asking for pointers on how to inform of a conflict of interest, and how to make sure that despite the COI most of the content I upload will be valid).
  3. How can I have my edits read and approved by a wikipedia editor? should I simply post it and wait, or specifically send it to someone?

Thank you for your comments on my talk page, and I look forward to your answer. I'd also like to say I'm sorry for editing a page so much before knowing the proper procedure.

Thank you for your help, and thank you for keeping wikipedia awesome! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amarinaslac (talkcontribs) 17:06, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

  1. It's best to upload the photos to the Commons. Since the photos already appear elsewhere online, you need to get an OTRS ticket in place on each image. There's instructions at Commons:OTRS and some example permission emails at commons:Email templates.
  2. There's instructions as to how to declare a conflict of interest at Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure#How to disclose.
  3. If you have a conflict of interest, you should not be editing the article at all. Instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the talk page using the {{request edit}} template. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:19, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Alzheimer's Association edits

Hi Diannaa.

You sent me a message regarding my updates to the Alzheimer's Association's Wikipedia page. I am trying to merge the AIM information (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alzheimer%27s_Impact_Movement) into that page as well.

Is this something you can assist with? I work for the organization and there was a disputed comment suggesting that AIM page be folded into the Association page, so that is what I am trying to do now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmilieAlz (talkcontribs) 19:52, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Since you are an employee of the organization, you have a conflict of interest, and should not be editing that page at all. I have placed some information about our conflict of interest guideline on your talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:15, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi again Diannaa. I've got another one for you if you don't mind. Not really a new editor, but an SPA with a COI who does not seem to understand copyrights. I tried explaining things at WP:MCQ, but apparently was not able to do so. The Getty image is an obvious copyvio and I'm pretty sure the other upload is too. Same editor also removing maintenance templates without explanation. Any ideas on how to best proceed?-- Marchjuly (talk) 09:29, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

The above image has been deleted by another admin. The second one is from Twitter: https://twitter.com/TarickSalmaci, and is very likely a Getty image as well, as there's very similar stuff (but without the hat) amongst their images. I've deleted it and placed a warning on the user's talk page. The username is a match for the subject of the photo, but these are professionally taken Thanks for reporting, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:36, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear Diana,

I'm the Development Officer at the Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in SOutheast Europe- a non governmental non-profit organization. I'm writing to ask why our page was deleted. I was asked to make some technical changes when I first submitted it-at which point no-one suggested that there was any other reason to reject the page, other than the technical issues. There are no photographs on the page, no copyright infringements or anything else I can see that would lead to it being deleted. I would be grateful if you could please explain this decision and assist me in understanding what I can do to get our page up on Wikipedia. Cdrsee (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:42, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Your draft was located at Draft:Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe and was deleted by a different administrator, User:RHaworth (all I did was delete User:Cdrsee/sandbox/Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe, which was a redirect to the actual draft). It was deleted as being an advertisement. Looking at the deleted draft, I can see a major problem: a lot of it was copied from the organization's website or other copyright documents such as http://cdrsee.org/pdf/CDRSEE_profile_WEB.pdf. For this reason, it's not going to be possible for us to restore the draft. There's already some information on this topic on your talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:22, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Laboratoire d'Laboratoire d'Economie Forestière article

Hello, the article that I created "Laboratoire d'Economie Forestière" has been deleted under terms A7 (No indication of importance) and G12 (Unambiguous copyright infringement). I wanted to context such deletion, but it has been too fast, the article has been already deleted! Any how, I still think that a "This page is a draft, contribute to expand it" notice would have been more appropriate than deletion.

A7 - No indication of importance

The Laboratoire d'Economie Forestière of Nancy is the second in Europe and one of the first in the World in terms of both researchers and publications in the subject of forest economics. It's true, the subject is relatively small, but within the (admittedly) few people into the domain is universally known, and I don't think that a wikipedia should discriminate against "minorities subjects". I did want to put verifiable and exact numbers, but for that I needed to get some documents in the library on Monday. Too late, it did took just a few hours for its deletion! Furthermore, the LAB is a research and educational public institute, and as such it should be exempted from A7 ("with the exception of educational institutions"). Nevertheless, I still want to add numerical information on why it is notable within its topic.

G12 - Unambiguous copyright infringement

While it's true that the source of the text comes from the about us page of the web site of the lab, the text has been formatted to match the wikipedia standard (I got AgroParisTech and INRA istitutions as examples) and the source is in the public domain, so there is no copyright infringements. That's said, again, it was my intention to expand it, but I needed to get some material that I didn't have with me.

So, at the end, can I re-create on Monday the page adding the required information, or would it be cancelled again ? In general, I would suggest to wait a few days for content that is not "unambiguously" spam and that can instead be improved...

Thank you for your interest in creating an article for this organisation for wikipedia. The source web page is marked at the bottom as © INRA 2013. Sorry but we can't host copyright material temporarily while you work on it; everything you add to this wiki needs to comply with copyright law.

The second problem is notability. I am not sure the organisation is notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newpapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles about persons or organisations that are not notable are typically speedily deleted. If you wish to try again, I suggest you do so in draft space. There's instructions how to do this at Wikipedia:Drafts. Please make sure all content you add to the draft is written in your own words and not copied from elsewhere or it will be speedily deleted again. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:39, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Quick question. I just uploaded File:A night without Stars.jpg as a shrunken down pic from a link in the description. Is this fine. Pyrusca (talk) 19:10, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
It's okay, but you're better off using the more specific template {{Non-free use rationale book cover}}. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:54, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Revdel?

Hi Diannaa. Would you mind taking a look at User talk:Cstwct#File:William Tunberg.jpg when you get some time? The file's uploader added some personal contact information about the person in the photograph/copyright holder that may need to be taken out. I'm sure the uploader meant no harm, but even so it might have been a mistake to do so, especially since that's not how OTRS works. Also, I think this editor may have a COI for the Turnberg article she created based upon some of her posts on Wikipedia and Commons. I'm not suggesting the article should deleted for that reason, but only wondering if this should be brought up on her user talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:53, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Results:
  1. I have removed the phone numbers and email address and left an explanation on the user's talk page.
  2. Alfred Shaheen was loaded with copyvio, which I have cleaned. User:Cstwct/sandbox/William Tunberg was free of copy vio, but I found and removed some from William Tunberg (artist).
  3. I removed a non-free image from User:Cstwct/sandbox/William Tunberg and redirected the page to William Tunberg (artist).
  4. Alfred Shaheen and William Tunberg do not seem to be connected in any way. This may be a paid editor. These two articles are pretty much the editor's only contributions so far. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look Diannaa. I only suspect a COI because this author appears to have been in contact with the Tunbergs based upon some posts they've made on Wikipedia and Commons. I posted something about my concerns on their user talk as part of a reply to their question about images, but I don't think I was bitey. Hopefully, it does not come across as such. Also, thank you for the revdel and checking the other article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:09, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of the paid editor aspect. I was having trouble figuring out a wording, so I am glad you took care of that part. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:16, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
It seems she's not a "paid" editor, but the wife of William Tunberg and the daughter of Albert Shaheen based upon what she just posted on her user talk, which adds an interesting twist to things because she has referred to the Tunberg's as third person's in a number of her posts. I think that was more of an ill-advised attempt an trying to be neutral than a purposeful attempt at deception. Do you think Template:COI and Template:Connected contributor are warranted here, or will that just further exacerbate things? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Also not sure what to do about the {{Old AfD}} template erroneously added to Talk:William Tunberg (artist). The close was a NAC close that has been undone per User talk:Comatmebro#Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William Tunberg (artist). -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:26, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I have removed the AFD tag (from the talk page), since the AFD is still ongoing. I've added COI and connected contributor templates to the two articles, as our readers have a right to know that these articles may be slanted. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 05:11, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi Diannaa. I've been trying to explain the COI templates to Cstwct on my user talk and her user talk to help her better understand why they were added. I think she's now aware that she has a COI and understands what that means when it comes to Wikipedia; however, the COI templates are really bothering her. I think that she feels they are damaging the reputations of the subjects of the articles in some way. I can't really tell someone how they should feel, but I'm running out ways to try and explain WP:LUC and WP:NPOV to her. So, I was wondering if there is anything specific she should do (or not do) which would make it possible to expedite the removal of the COI templates. I advised her that she should discuss these things with you, but she seems reluctant to that. Would you mind posting something on her user talk explaining how these templates end up being typically removed? I was thinking of suggesting that she add Template:UserboxCOI to her userpage, and then asking her to make a request at WP:NPOVN or WP:COIN to to try and get some feedback from other completely uninvolved editors. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:13, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
I've gone over both of the articles and removed some promotional stuff and the COI tags, since she says she is not going to edit them any more and they're now in okay shape. The tags still remain on the article talk pages though, and I think we should leave those be. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:52, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Diannaa. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:51, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Diannnaa, I am trying to restore content I provided for the Adobe Premiere Pro page. I rewrote the text to make it in compliance with wikipedia but it was still deleted. I helped write the original text for Adobe and rewrote the new text for wikipedia. There are only so many ways to write "Improved relinking workflows". I am the Director of Engineering for Premiere Pro and our customers have asked for this material to be present on Wikipedia. How do I proceed? Thanks Dave 2A02:8071:19D:4300:E8D4:8432:E987:B694 (talk) 10:54, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works. Regardless of the copyright issue, we're not looking for our software articles to contain exhaustive lists of version release dates and features. If you work for the company, you have a conflict of interest, and should not be editing the article at all. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:47, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Why can't we have a history of version releases? That seems very interesting to someone going to a page about a product?? I wrote all the data clean this time for wikipedia? I didn't write any opinions only facts. Thanks DaveDmcgavra (talk) 21:42, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

As you are already well aware, the main problem with the addition is that identical material already appears online, and the addition is thus a copyright violation. The decision as to whether or not to include a history of version releases is something you will have to discuss on the article talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:55, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

So if I start from scratch and rewrite every line in a different order with different words can it stay? Thanks DaveDmcgavra (talk) 22:39, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Editor continually coping text between articles without attribution

Hi - take a look at User talk:Doug Weller#Could you perhaps have a look at Early Dynastic Period (Mesopotamia)?. Take this edit added Nov 16th. The text comes from History of Sumer[3] and was added 8 years ago. I've warned him, others have, you've warned him several times the last time being a month ago. Indef until we get some sort of commitment to sort out the problems he's created, ie no more edits until those have been sorted? I think more warnings won't help. Doug Weller talk 12:13, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Sorry to say I have to agree that the warnings have been ineffective and it's time for a block. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:50, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I blocked him. Then the same editor who posted to my talk page pointed out that another account had copied over the blocked accounts sandbox and was doing similar editors. First edits for about 9 years! I've now CU blocked both. Doug Weller talk 16:36, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to do that. Handy that you have check-user and could quickly get this sorted. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:07, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Removing Truthful, Cited Quotations from AS article

Why? I don't understand why you removed truthful, accurate, cited quotations from the AS article. These quotes were made by museums and professionals in AS's field. I'm shocked that you would whitewash an article and in the process make the article incomplete. Quite frankly, the article does not now properly reflect who AS was. I think the museums, his peers, writers, magazines, and collectors, who have studied AS, can accurately describe who the man was, and those quotes you removed were from the foregoing. I thought we are supposed cite, cite, cite. You also removed "copyrighted" content that belongs to me. I own the AS website. I wrote the text and own the photos. My name is CS, and yes I'm working through COI with Marchjuly. So now that you know you deleted material that I own, I respectfully request that you restore the damage you've done. Thank you for leaving in the date of his birth and death.Cstwct (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:36, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

@Cstwct: If the material is copyrighted then we cannot use it unless the owner of the copyright donates it. Just because you say you're Camille Shaheen and are the owner doesn't prove anything. The alfredshaheen.com website must display that they are donating the copyrighted text. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information. Ian.thomson (talk) 04:41, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, thank you for telling me. But the damage is already done to the article.Cstwct (talk) 05:02, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Cstwct. First, the quotations. Wikipedia's non-free content policy is quite strict, stricter than other websites, and we do not permit a lot of quotations from non-free sources. Stringing together quotations from our sources is not the way we build our articles. It's okay – in fact it's required – that everything you add to this wiki should be backed up by reliable sources, but the articles themselves need to be written pretty much entirely in your own words.

Second, material copied from http://www.alfredshaheen.com/shaheenhistory.htm. In order to protect the rights of copyright holders, we can't take your word for it that you are the person who owns the copyright to that page. We have in place a system where copyright holders can send proof via email to a group of volunteers that they are the copyright holder, and provide the necessary permission for the content to be copied to this site. There's more information at WP:Donating copyrighted materials and a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Dianaa, thank you. I've put the donated notification on AS.com's front page. It was an easy fix and I'm just wondering why I never saw this requirement before, even though I've been advised it was sent to me 3X. Please let me know where this text is located. Was it in one of the articles sent? I was sent so many. Can you please now restore the AS article to its original state. I think you went overboard taking the quotes out. You took them all out, not just some. Since I can't edit this page directly because of COI, I'm respectfully requesting that you use moderation in removing quotes. You've stricken them all. Please put some back. I'll leave it to you to write the article. Go for it, but please study the AS site before rewriting so you know who he is. The article, as rewritten by your deletions, does not accurately reflect AS, and I've been told that Wikipedia strives for accuracy. Do I have to fill out special forms for the photos, or is the fact that you now know I own them sufficient? Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 15:35, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, these are legal requirements, so everything has to be done a particular way. Saying "alfredshaheen.com is donating text from its website to Wikipedia" is insufficient permission. What you need to do is select a compatible license from the list here and place it on the web page using the wording (for example) "This web page is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 (Unported) (CC-BY-SA) license and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL)." Please think carefully before you do this, because it gives anyone and everyone (not just Wikipedia) permission to use the content for any purpose, including commercial purposes. You will also have to remove the copyright marking "© 1998-2015 Camille Shaheen All Rights Reserved" from the pages, particularly the page from which the prose was copied (http://www.alfredshaheen.com/shaheenhistory.htm).

Photos of artwork are problematic. There's two separate copyrights for three-dimensional artwork: one for the photograph, and one for the artwork itself. Commons:Derivative works has more information on this topic. In a nutshell, even if you own the copyright to the photograph, you can't upload a photo of three-dimensional artwork to the Commons unless you also are the copyright holder of the underlying artwork. The copyright holder for the artwork is the artist, William Tunberg. Mr Tunberg needs to think carefully before he does this. Releasing this artwork under license is probably not a good idea, as he might not like some of the uses to which people put these photos, and the licenses are not revocable. If he wishes to proceed, what he needs to do is select a license and send proof of ownership via email using the instructions at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. For the three-dimensional pieces, we also need the consent of the photographer(s) and a release under a compatible license. These are legal requirements, and there's no shortcuts.

Regarding the quotations, I will not be restoring them. Like I already said, Wikipedia's non-free content policy is quite strict, stricter than other websites, and we do not permit a lot of quotations from non-free sources in our articles. Everything you add to this wiki needs to be written in your own words please. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:23, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, the instruction to put the donation language on the AS website was given to me by editor Ian.Thomson (but not only Ian, another editor as well). This weekend I'll review your instructions and follow them. I'll let you know if I have questions. The article has now been designated a stub page. Let's figure out how to fill it out with historical info and a few photos.

Thank you for giving me the exact language to use on the website. Since using the language will give everyone the right to use anything on the page, what if I prepare a special page just for Wikipedia? I'll only include text and no photos. Up until now I haven't allowed anyone to use the photos without permission, not even the museums, magazines, etc. I can establish a special Wikipedia section on the site that will contain only information that the public can use.

Re the quotes, I'll go in and study that section to understand Wikipedia's policies. There must be some way to incorporate quotations into text, which was wrong.

After I finish with all the above, I'll edit and then let you know so you can go in, check it out, and make any changes you feel are necessary. If you have objections to this, let me know. I'm named as a major contributing editor, and I've read how to handle this. I think I understand the concept now, but not actually how to go about declaring. I've been dialoging with Marchjuly about how to use the COI code on the talk page and delete the COI template on the article's page. Wikipedia's COI page isn't really a step-by-step how to. It's more conceptual in nature, and there isn't a Wikipedia for Dummies on Amazon (yes, I've checked), so I'm at a loss of what to put where and what to say. I just found out today I shouldn't delete anything from the AS talk page so I don't want to take a chance and test something out. Honestly, someone needs to write a Dummies book. Newcomers don't start reading the rules and then edit. They edit, make a mistake, oops, and then read. Unfortunately, some unintentional serious mistakes can be made; things you can't fix. I'm sorry I was angry before -- I was just shocked and overwhelmed by everything. Thanks for your help. Happy Thanksgiving.Cstwct (talk) 01:06, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Diannaa, I just read Marchjuly's message. He told me you took the COI templates off. I'm confirming I will not edit AS or WT. I'll follow your instructions and get you the forms you need for AS , but I won't work on the article. Please let me know if a special Wikipedia page on the website is an OK fix. If so, I'll write it this weekend. Wish there was one central place to see all messages at one time. Wish there was an address book feature. Thank you!Cstwct (talk) 01:18, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Writing a special Wikipedia page on your website and then expecting us to import it into the article is not any different than if you edited the article directly, so no, that doesn't help. If you wish to add additional information, please find independent sources such as newspaper articles and books. Then go to the article talk page and propose an edit using the template {{request edit}}. The way to keep an eye on various pages of interest is to add them to your watchlist. To learn more about how to edit Wikipedia, I suggest working your way through Wikipedia:Tutorial or The Wikipedia Adventure. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 04:21, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
I don't expect you to import the text verbatim into Wikipedia. I thought I made it clear in my description that the page would contain historical info for Wikipedia and the public to use, which information would not have copyright protection. Isn't that Wikipedia's requirement -- that the info be free? The info and photos on my site aren't free, but this page would be free.
Your editing left the AS article a stub page. I understand some, but not all, of what you did. I'm beginning to get the feel of what is/isn't promotional and that neutrality should be strived for. I agree. However, you deleted a lot of information that came from written material produced by museums and experts, who describe what AS did and who he was. If you can't rely on museums and newspapers, then whom? The article can be much better written and quotes can be judiciously used within the context of the information being conveyed. AS is a historical person in Hawaiian history, and I'm considered an expert on AS history. So I'd like to work directly with an editor (maybe in the sandbox -- not exactly sure what that's for yet -- testing?), where we can pull together an informative, neutral, cited article. If this can be done, how do I engage an editor to work with me on this? As of now, the article is in bad shape.
Finally, re putting request edits on the talk page such as please fix this typo, that reference is inaccurate, and this needs to be linked... That's confusing for both the editor and me. I understand about major edits, but the small ones... Isn't this something I can do? Please advise. Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 13:56, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
It's okay for you to fix typos and add citations to these articles.

To repeat, Wikipedia's non-free content policy is quite strict, stricter than other websites, and we do not permit a lot of quotations from non-free sources. Stringing together quotations from our sources is not the way we build our articles. It's okay – in fact it's required – that everything you add to this wiki should be backed up by reliable sources, but the articles themselves need to be written pretty much entirely in your own words. Major changes should be done using the request edit template.

To repeat, Material you write on your own website cannot be considered a reliable source for Wikipedia. You need to find material that's from independent sources such as books, magazines, or independent websites. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:34, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

User: Earl King

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for blocking Earl King (talk · contribs) (aka Earl King Jr. (talk · contribs)). This user is disruptive (subject of many administrative processes), constantly blanking sections, reverting, and edit warring in a small range of topics. He even blanks his own talk pages (I'm wondering if to delete the feedback he receives...). I was curious why the chaos on the affected articles had stopped, and then noticed he had been blocked. Thank you!

Hi Diannaa, when you have a chance could you rev/delete the history of copyright violations here? The persistence of using the article here for promotion may require protection at some point. Thanks in advance, 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

I am the author of the material you deleted. Yes, it is posted on Mr. Earle's company website. Sorry that's a problem, but can you please then help to understand the process whereby we will be able to submit this to the wiki? The entry as it stands is incomplete, false and/or inaccurate.

Question about soliciting your impartial advice

Hi, User:Diannaa, one question, please. Am I permitted to ask an administrator to voice his/her opinion over an edit where I believe it may have infringed upon Wikipedia's stated policy, without such a request being construed as canvassing? After all, is it not the role of Wikipedia's administrators to uphold Wikipedia's policies?Davidbena (talk) 22:51, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

Looks to me like you asked a user to revert an edit on an article, you are not permitted to do that reversion yourself since you already reverted it once. It's not material whether the editor you asked to do the revert is an admin or not. What you did is solicit assistance in an edit war on a page under Arbcom sanctions. That is not okay. If you think the content needs to come out, go to the article talk page and see if you can get consensus for its removal. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:04, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. But am I not permitted to revert the edit once-again after 24-hours have elapsed? Secondly, is there never any room for discussion with an administrator about what seems as violating WP's policy?Davidbena (talk) 23:18, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Your post opened with the sentence "User:Avraham, can I please ask you to revert the recent edit in the article Bayt Nattif?" That's not appropriate. Please don't revert again in 24 hours; there's already opposition to your edit, so reverting again will get you involved in a slow motion edit war. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:24, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Okay. I will not revert the edit, at least not in the immediate 24-hours, and I will hope that a consensus can be reached to change the edit. I appreciate your taking the time to answer me. And, yes, I was a little too blunt in asking an administrator and steward to revert what I saw as an inappropriate edit. I guess I'm in need of learning more tact. Be well.Davidbena (talk) 23:45, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

O'Connor

Hi Diannaa. Hope you're doing well. Could you have a look at O'Connor (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) and Ó Conchubhair Donn (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). I marked both for RD1, but I would like a more eyes on them since a G12 was contested here and here. A history merge might be a good idea too. — JJMC89(T·C) 00:36, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Rev-deletes are done. I agree a hist-merge is in order, and have tagged it for our specialist's attention. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:25, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Swedish economic copyvios

Diannaa!

I see that you just took care of the copyvios on National wealth fund. This was one of a series of copyvios that has been going on on pages related to economist Dag Detter (there's a couple of editing accounts focusing on this material). I've been doing the sloppy/lazy thing of just deleting the copyvios, without arranging to suppress the revisions, something I always forget how to do. If you would like to clean up my sloppiness (sorry!), you can find them in the history at The Public Wealth of Nations and Public commercial assets. --Nat Gertler (talk) 01:04, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

I've done some revision deletion on both of these pages. Thanks for reporting — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:40, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

WT Article Revisions

Hi Diannaa, are you my WT editor? I won't edit directly. I'll keep checking back with you about this, though, since this is such an easy fix, I hate to bother you.

The WT article asks for a better citation for KT as the screenplay writer for Ben Hur. Got to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052618/?ref_=nv_sr_2. It's an IMDB page for the 1950s Ben Hur movie. Search the page for WT and it'll come up. You have to search because there is so much information on the page, it's easy to miss. For WT's Lassie, can't find it online, so please delete.

Since the article is being reviewed now for deletion, I'd like to help out as much as possible to get you what you need asap. Do you need something for the photos?

Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 02:01, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

I am not your "Tunberg editor"; if you want to make changes to the page you need to propose changes on the talk page using the {{request edit}} template. It won't be me who performs the edits; I am too busy with copyright clean-up to do that task, so sorry. IMDb is not considered a reliable source, because it's a wiki, and anyone can edit it. I don't understand your question about photos; I've already explained in detail how to release them under license. What am I missing here? — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 04:29, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
A wiki is an online source for people's input, and can't be used as a reference. Got it. But you can use TCM and LA Times if they're online, which I found for Karl Tunberg. There is a ton of online information about him. I'll put this info on the talk page and ask for an edit. I'd like a typo removed right away though. The typo wasn't in the original version -- it was inserted by you. I can also link the Karl Tunberg and WT Wikipedia articles. Is this something I can do or do I have to use a request edit for that. Do you know the turnaround time for a request edit? Re the photos, I've been immersed in text and instructions, which are coming from all angles. I've been responding as fast as I can to problems. When you ask "what am I missing?" It's the fact that few newcomers can keep up with the massive amount of text and instructions that pour in when they make a mistake. I uploaded the photos as the owner and designated them as free content. Now I need to do something about a license. OK. I'll go back and try to find that information.Cstwct (talk) 13:06, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Here is the information about the photos in the Tunberg article: There's two separate copyrights for three-dimensional artwork: one for the photograph, and one for the artwork itself. For the three-dimensional pieces, we also need the consent of the photographer(s) and a release under a separate compatible license. Regarding the typo, I will fix it if you tell me what it is. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:56, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll fill out the forms this weekend and have them to you by Monday.
The typo is under Career: When the 1994 Northridge earthquake occurred, the Los Angeles Times noted reported "The 300-pound cross,...
Here's a cite for KT & Ben Hur: "Karl Tunberg Oscar Nominee for Ben Hur". April 11, 1992. Los Angeles Times. [6] Can't get much better than an academy award nomination. Karl is in Wikipedia and can be linked on WT's Wikipedia page.
Let's leave WT's father for now. I didn't quickly find online written material except for IMDB.
Re the cite requested for WT's drawing style (Career, 2nd to last paragraph), rather than go through more magazines looking for cites, let's delete the paragraph entirely and incorporate his drawing into the billboard paragraph. The reason WT won the California Arts Commission Award was because of his drawing. His billboard drawing was of a semi-nude woman on a plain white background (yes, you could do it in those days). Here's suggested language to replace the first sentence in the billboard paragraph:
"Because of WT's well regarded signature style of drawing 3/4 life-sized nudes and portraits on stark white backgrounds, in 1977, WT was the recipient of the California Arts Commission Award, "Eyes and Ears Foundation Grant", to design and produce a giant drawing to be exhibited on a 48-by-16-foot (14.6 m × 4.9 m) billboard...."
The above takes care of all citations needed except for WT's father. I'll work on that and put the request on the talk page.
Thanks, Diannaa. Have a happy thanksgiving.Cstwct (talk) 17:42, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Diannaa, I'd really appreciate it if you'd help me finish the WT article. I'd like to remove the Marquetry section. My intention was to discuss ancient vs. contemporary marquetry and the new techniques and finishes used by WT to resolve the problems of using this medium. I no longer want to do this. I'd also like to add a photo of a piece of furniture, since this is what WT is known for. I know you're busy, but I'd like to work with you in finalizing because you're familiar with the history and all the problems encountered with this article. I don't think it'll take that long and I'd be forever grateful. Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 13:28, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
I have fixed the typo and added one of the citations for you. I really don't have time to work on these two articles; I am finding it difficult right now to even keep up with the posts and requests here on my talk page. Sorry, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:29, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Quick question. In one of the posts I remember reading that bots patrol these pages. I'm worried that all of these conversations will be picked up by bots and show up on google when name searches are done. Can you please let me know if this will happen? Are these pages privacy protected? I know other users can see them. That isn't my concern. My concern is whether these conversations will be splashed all over the internet in google and other searches. There are no visible warnings on these pages that this is the case. Please advise. I'm very worried.Cstwct (talk) 17:39, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Wikipedia talk pages and user talk pages are not indexed, which means their contents should not show up on a Google search. See Wikipedia:Controlling search engine indexing for more information. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:57, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
But I've seen them when I google user talk. And you mentioned you deleted personal info because of the bots. Honestly, Diannaa, I'm in tears. I can't deal with the stress of all this. This experience has made me physically and emotionally sick. Now I have bots and google to worry about. I can't take anymore. I truly can't take anymore.Cstwct (talk) 18:35, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
There's Wikipedia mirrors as well as the actual site. Check your Google results to find out exactly who is hosting the content. The personal information I removed via revision deletion was the phone number and email address that you posted on November 14. I have checked and that stuff is not showing up on a Google search. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk)

What copyright vilations are you talking about in Surya Namaskar?

I don't remember adding anything that could possibly be considered a copyright violation, in fact I think I only deleted useless material. I'm also quite suspicious since this is a religiously charged article, I can't be sure of your motives. What copyright violations are you talking about? Tumacama (talk) 20:04, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Apparently it was some material from http://www.ekhartyoga.com/blog/the-origin-of-the-sun-salutation, but I can't talk about it or know what you're referencing too. It would be nice it you could have posted the offending material to my talk page, but since I have no idea what exactly you're talking about and can't add references or edit the material, you are pretty much just shutting me down without explanation. I hope I have the patience to see your answer, because it's pretty tempting to stop contributing altogether with such heavy, high handed tactics. Essentially you are just bullying me. Tumacama (talk) 20:32, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

You've also eliminated all of my other edits. Good Luck to you and you're little hobby here shutting down Wikipedia writers Tumacama (talk) 20:34, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

O'Connor and Ó Conchubhair Donn edit-hidings

  • On 24 November 2016 Diannaa hid 30 edits on page Ó Conchubhair Donn and 43 edits on O'Connor as (RD1: Copyright violations). (I history-merged these 2 articles, and all these edits are now in page O'Connor.) But in Talk:O'Connor is a statement at 21:35, 23 November 2016 (UTC) that text on the website http://clonalis.com/ was copied from the Wikipedia article rather than the other way around. Should I un-hide these edits? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:22, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
No, because the content that was revision deleted was first added to the article at 07:32, December 16, 2014, and the Wayback Machine shows that clonalis.com had it as early as March 21, 2012. Thank you for doing the history merge. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:20, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Had to include the details as the reference is the only source I can find stating their details of posting,;they were at my base in Germany when I was there in the 70s(I was 1/13th Inf). The original article includes nothing post WWII. Just tried to put in the basic facts without plagarising the article. Possible copyvio

Hi Diannaa, Diving_suit#Semi-dry_suits is very similar to a paragraph on the Northern Diver website, but from looking at the history of the Diving suit article, it seems more likely to me that they copied from us without attribution than the other way round, as there are some dubious claims I am trying to source that were in our article from 2004 or earlier. Is there a way of confirming one way or the other? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:05, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

If you could give me a specific url at the www.ndiver.com website that you want me to examine, that would be great. Right now it looks like they copied from us rather than the other way around, but I'd like to be sure. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:47, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, this is a professional mapmaking company who is providing some maps with free licenses suitable for upload to commons. Not surprisingly, we're going through some initial issues as the exact process of arranging for permissions is sorted out but I believe this one is fine.--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:27, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Is this fair use?

Hi, Diannaa! If you have a moment, could you tell me if the use of this file in this page is justifiable as fair use? There doesn't seem to be any OTRS permission for it (that I can find, anyway), and it's been tagged as "wrong licence" since 2014. Thanks, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:06, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

I don't think the image qualifies for fair use in any of the three articles where it's currently present. We have no evidence that the copyright holder released it under the stated license, so it's a F11 candidate. I have gone ahead and nominated as such. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:45, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Diannaa, wanted to be sure before making a fool of myself (again!), sorry for adding to your workload. There seems to be a fairly major COI problem in that area, still researching. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:34, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

non-Wikipedia bots having access to user talk pages; request for privacy

Hi Diannaa. In writing my previous posts, I was not aware that non-Wikipedia bots might be able to access user talk pages and turn the information into searchable internet content. Because of this, for privacy reasons, I've replaced my given name, and my father's and my husband's names, with initials in my posts only on your talk page. You've used my given name, my father's, his website's, and my husband's given names in your posts on numerous occasions. Would you be so kind as to replace these names with initials CS, AS, AS.com and WT, respectively? It's not my intention to blank or lose the history of our conversations, and I don't want to keep important information from other editors or registered users. However, in not knowing that non-Wikipedia bots may have access to our conversations, I was too free with personal information. I would appreciate it if you would help neutralize our conversations. I know how busy you are. If I can help in any way, please let me know. Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 15:13, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

This page is no longer being scraped by bots since I added the __NOINDEX__ magic word yesterday, so this step is not necessary. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:07, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
What a relief. Thank you! What about the other user talk pages? I'm not being paranoid. As you know, this is a very real problem and once the info gets out there, you can't take it back.Cstwct (talk) 18:12, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
There's no reason why you can't look after this yourself. You don't need my permission or my help. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:18, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
OK. I'm afraid to touch anything. I saw you put it right at the top. I'll put the code in the CS and WT user talk pages and ask marchjuly if he wouldn't mind putting the code in his. Thank you again.Cstwct (talk) 18:37, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I must point out that there's really nothing that prevents bots from scraping pages tagged with "noindex". It is advisory only. If someone out on the net can read a page, then a bot can read the page. Even an indexing bot. Jeh (talk) 00:13, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
The noindex tag should not be required regardless, as certain pages are noindexed by the software. Regardless, after I added the noindex tag to this page, Google search results don't seem to be including material from this page any more. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:18, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Yet more advice, please

I'm truly sorry to keep bringing stuff here, but you were involved in this before. Audi Marissa, deleted by MRG as a copyvio (report here) has been re-created. Question: does this look to you like socking? Discussion here, SPI here. The same editor created Aurel Hermansyah, now at AfD; the other main contributor there is an IP who has substantial intersection with the sockmaster, including at this list where most or all of the IP edits since your protection expired could be the same person. I'd take this straight to SPI except that I don't think that'd get anything done about the IPs. Ping JohninDC who also helped with this before. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:23, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

It could be another sock, what with the interest in Indonesian entertainment figures and awards shows. I had to let this case go, as it was sucking up way too much of my time and the socking seems unstoppable. I figured as long as there were no further copyright violations that that was the best we could hope for. I suggest going ahead and taking the case to SPI, as they could do a block on the IP or range of IPs without connecting it to the named account. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:36, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for guidance

Hi, Thank you for guidance, on copy right text violations, will keep full consideration in future edits. Regards.Junosoon (talk) 05:20, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you

I've begun to do what you have said about using an off-line editor to do my editing rather than 'wikispace' to avoid copyright violations. Thank you for helping me understand that this isn't acceptable since I don't want to perform copyright violations. I do have a question: The University of Pittsburgh has given me permission to use the material on their sites describing their collections. I understand a verbal agreement amounts to no agreement at all. How do I document permission from the University to use their material?

Best Regards,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 07:29, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
If the copyright holder wishes to release the material under license, please see the instructions at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:52, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Tunberg photos

Hi Diannaa. I'm starting a new section because there is so much text in the other section, it's hard to follow. I'm focusing on getting you the forms you need for the WT photos.

  1. Re the Zeller photo, we've been advised he had no children. He has a wife, and we're trying to track her down.
  2. I understand the concept of two forms to fill out for photos of original artwork. I read https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Derivative_works, but it's not specific as to what form to fill out by the original artwork creator (I'm assuming the Declaration of consent is for the derivative, since it's a photo). What form needs to be filled out by the creator of the original artwork?
  3. I've read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials. It's confusing. You referred me to Declaration of consent of all enquiries to fill out. I'll use the wizard and choose Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported and GNU Free Documentation License, mainly because I don't know what the other licenses mean, but I think it'll be fine. There is no way to control these photos anyway, as they've been picked up by bots and are all over the internet. Where the form says "CHOOSE ONE: [URLs of the content] OR [attached images/text], [attached images/text]," I'll insert the Wikipedia address. If you'd like me to do something different, let me know.
  4. WT and I are co-owners of the WT photos because we took the photos together. Who is the copyright holder? The person who actually pushes the button?
  5. I'd like to use a couple of additional photos in the gallery section of the article. I don't want to give the photos to Wikipedia unless I'm assured they'll be used. Are photos allowed to be added as a COI editor without an edit request?

To summarize, I'll fill out an enquiry form for each photo and send the forms to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. How do I handle the original artwork? We're working on tracking down Artie's wife. Question re additional photos. Thanks for your help.Cstwct (talk) 18:09, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I don't think I can explain it any better than the information already available on this website and at the Commons to you but I will try. The copyright holder of a photograph is the person who actually took the photo. For each photo, the photographer has to choose a license. For the artwork, the copyright holder of the artwork has to choose a license. Both parties need to fill out the declaration of consent. There's no way to guarantee that images you upload here or to the Commons will actually be used in any articles. The images could be removed from the articles at any time by any editor. We don't always include galleries in our articles. The Commons hosts the images, and a link to the Commons category can be provided at the bottom of the article. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:41, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
This simple explanation did help. Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 22:31, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Diannaa, we submitted the consent forms necessary for all photos except the Zeller photo. We should have an answer to our Zeller inquiry shortly. Thx.Cstwct (talk) 23:02, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)@Cstwct: If you've sent in permissions emails to Commons OTRS, you can replace the c:Template:No permission since with c:Template:OTRS pending. All you need to do is go to each file's page and add {{OTRS pending}} in the |permission= parameter of c:Template:Information. What this does is give 30 days for OTRS to verify the email and make sure the licensing the copyright holder has chosen is acceptable for Commons. Whomever sent in the email should receive a reply from OTRS and this reply will contain an OTRS ticket number. Please make note of this number because it will make it easier for OTRS to find your email if there are any problems. If you have any questions about this, please post something at c:Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. There tends to be a bit of a backlog when it comes to verifying permission emails, so it may take a little time. If 30 days have passed and the licensing for the files still has not been verified, the "OTRS pending" template will automatically revert back to "No permission since". If that happens, please ask for assistance at the OTRS noticeboard. If you plan to upload more files to Commons, please follow the instructions at c:COM:OTRS. If by chance the files are deleted, do not re-upload them; instead, go to the OTRS noticeboard and ask for assistance. Files which are deleted are not gone forever, but rather only hidden from public view. Just let OTRS or the Commons administrator who deleted the files know that you have sent in a permissions email and they will "un-delete" the files for you. You can find out which administrator deleted the file, simply by clicking on the file's link or using c:Special:Log.
Finally, one last thing about image use. I added the "Gallery" to the Turnberg article just to clean up the formatting a bit, but Diannaa is absolutely right about Wikipedia articles and galleries. Galleries tend to lean towards decorative use of images, whereas Wikipedia ideally strives for contextual use of images. The best usage of images is not simply one which shows the image (see WP:NOTGALLERY), but one which contextually ties the image to specific discussion (even better would be sourced discussion of that content) within the article content. It's actually better to place images near where they are being discussed. Articles are not intended to be places for present artist portfolios, so adding too many images might be seen as promotional. Adding/removing images is really no different from adding/removing text in that it's not really considered to be a minor edit. So, I would not advise you do any image editing due to your COI (unless it's just to tweak the formatting, etc.) and use the "request edit" template if you want to add an image to either article. As Diannaa posted, there is no real 100% guarantee when it comes to anything on Wikipedia, even images, so any image added can be removed by another editor. Proper licensing is required, but that in and of itself does not guarantee a particular file should be used. Sometimes, it's better to establish a local consensus on the article's talk page per WP:IUP#Adding images to articles and WP:CAUTIOUS before adding images. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:17, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi Diannaa and Marchjuly. All photos have been deleted. The only one I'll replace is the photo of WT. I wanted to remove the Gallery anyway so this is a blessing in disguise. I was trying to add images in a contextual fashion. I initially tried to place them next to the text. But you're right -- I don't want the article to look like a promotional catalog. I'll go to the OTRS noticeboard and ask to only have WT's photo put back in. I'll also ask for help in placing the OTRS template (I assume it goes on the image page but not sure). When the photos were removed, the title Gallery wasn't removed. I'll go in and delete it because now it constitutes a mistake. Thank you.Cstwct (talk) 01:53, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Correct correction?

Hi, User:Diannaa new to this but wanted to check on response to speedy deletion due to copyright infringement, could you look at Pablo Castro Estevez (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) and remove the speedy deletion tag if corrected as required or should this be requested by someone else?Mongepoche (talk) 21:39, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Sohn Coference Wikipedia

The Sohn Conference Foundation
Hi, I would like to try again to add content to the Sohn Conference Wikipedia. Can I put up content little by little, in my own words, using the many sources I have, and at each stage you can see if I no longer am infringing on copyright rules? I believe that most of the content that was up was not even close to being "copied" and was indeed in my "own words." Perhaps there were some places where I was not careful to change the wording around enough. Please let me try again. I think overall it is a good article, describing the organization from good third party sources. Thanks. Yellowpoemelos (talk) 10:54, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

I would not have hesitated to say Yes if you had not denied that any of your work was copied from other copyright websites. Your edits were picked up as a bot as being a copyright violation, and I confirmed it using our copyvio detection tool. Regardless, I am willing to take a chance and will follow along to check your work. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:46, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
OK Thanks for the second chance. Starting to put up the wiki now. Yellowpoemelos (talk) 09:47, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
I just noticed the changes you made to my edits, and I think they are great. My experience with Wikipedia has frequently been negative, and I never felt like I was collaborating before on articles that I have written, or large edits I have made in the past. I agree with all of your edits, and can see how my language could have sounded promotional or too much like the sources they came from. I have more sources and more to add to this article. I really appreciate your help with this. I should get around to adding more in the next few days. Thanks again. 206.75.231.93 (talk) 14:11, 6 December 2016 (UTC) OOPS, just noticed I forgot to log in, and to make sure your talk page is on my watch list. Sorry about that. Hmmmmm.

If you dump stuff on my talk page. I'd kinda hope you might have added my talk page to your watchlist. Pdfpdf (talk) 11:29, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Large scale copyvios

Hi Dianna. If you have the time, we had large-scale copyvios at Narciso Rodriguez (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). I cleaned up but you can check also. Thank you. Dr. K. 07:11, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

I have checked and it's okay now. Did some revision-deletion as well. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:51, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Also cleaned up Nissan GT-R (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). Dr. K. 07:26, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that Caseycad started the copyvios at the article from 2012. Do these have to be revdeled as well? Dr. K. 16:01, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
They could be done as well, but it would mean hiding a couple thousand diffs, so I decided to do it more conservatively — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:27, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
I see. Thank you again Dianna. Dr. K. 16:29, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
This one I found a little more content to amend, and did revision deletion back to June, which is when the bulk of the copy vio occurred. Thanks for reporting. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:51, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, as always, for your tireless, and hard, work Dianna. Dr. K. 15:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Narcisso redux

Hi Dianna. The SPA has returned and so have the copyvios. New revdels are required and perhaps a block of the SPA. Should I open a thread at ANI, or can you just block the SPA? Thanks as always. Dr. K. 19:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I am adding a final warning to Caseycad below your recent warning. Caseycad has already been warned once for copyvio on November 30. Revision deletions have been done, and I will add the article to my watchlist. I have blocked Narcisorodriguez777 for username violation. If the editor is actually the subject of the article they need to self-identify using the instructions now in place on their talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:25, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Great. Thank you again Dianna. My remaining concerns are, if these accounts donate the materials and then they keep edit-warring them into the article. Obviously, a personal website of the subject of the article is full of advert-like statements which are also unverified by other sources. Second, the Caseycad account keeps removing information from reliable sources while plastering the personal website spam into the article. It seems these accounts seek to place in the article only the information they have in their website at the expense of any other, even if it is backed by RS. Dr. K. 22:21, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Good point. I have added a word about that to my post at Caseycad's talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:25, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Raul Escribano

Hi Diannaa. Would you mind taking a look at Raul Escribano and checking if there are any copyvios when you have a spare moment? Based upon this, it appears the article's creator is a new editor unfamiliar with Wikipedia who might be a soldier and who might have unintentionally too closing paraphrased or simply copy-and-pasted content about Escribano from official US military webpages/documents. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:22, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

It was copied from here, which is okay as long as proper attribution is provided. I've added the attribution and notified the user. Thanks for reporting, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:31, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Diannaa. I've never seen {{public domain}} used before. That's a nice thing to know about. How do you verify whether the origin source material has been released into the public domain for pdf files? Do you just work backwards to the main page and check the licensing there? -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:48, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Marchjuly: the two easiest criteria for public-domain status in the USA include all works of the federal government (including the military, but not individual states or localities) and everything published before 1923 (anywhere in the world). That makes them legit to post here with a PD tag (of which there are many, for various specific purposes), and likewise for US-origin works on Commons (other countries have different rules, most of which are respected there). There are plenty more criteria that may apply, and it can get pretty complicated, but those two usually require the least research to identify. Beware of public-domain declarations online if the reason isn‘t apparent, because there’s a widespread misconception that it means merely publicly displayed or available: “If they didn’t want people to copy it, they wouldn’t have posted it!”—Odysseus1479 23:14, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
Adding: I verify by going to the root page where the PDF is stored (in this case http://www.usfk.mil/) and see whose site it is. Occasionally for US military staff you will find the biography at multiple locations online as well. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk)
Thanks for all the info Odysseus1479 and Diannaa. What about WP:PLAGIARISM in these types of cases? Is it still OK to copy-and-paste verbatim public domain content into articles? -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:25, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but only if properly cited: see WP:FREECOPYING and the linked family of attribution templates. OTOH there may be any number of editorial reasons to avoid it in particular cases; for example where the material has fallen out of copyright because of its age, in many subject areas it’s likely to be obsolete in the face of recent research or changing attitudes. Often the writing style will also be incompatible with the rest of the article and the ‘encylopaedic tone‘ we strive for.—Odysseus1479 02:11, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Back in January, you RevDeled most of this inglorious WP:PEACOCK-a-rama as copyvio from a Daily Mail article. Apparently a different IP re-added most of the content the next day. I just ran across the article via Recent Changes and it appears to be a hodgepodge of copyvio from sources including [7]. I am not sure how best to handle the problem beyond reverting the article to your clean version from January 22 ([8]). I am willing to take the time to tease out the (relatively) original content from the plagiarized content, but given the RevDel that is going to be necessary, I don't want to create administrative work where it can be avoided, and so, before I plow into the fray, I thought I would ask for advice from an ultimate mop-wielder. Many thanks! - Julietdeltalima (talk) 22:01, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

If you have time to go ahead and clean it that would be great. Then I can do the revision deletions after, no trouble at all. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:47, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Diannaa

Thanks for your assistance on Zaha Hadid. Normally I'm loath to write things such as "the greatest" (it's often purely subjective). I knew of Hadid but had no idea of her standing in architecture, and against my normal judgement I added that line when I saw there were four other sources. The Queen of curve line I also assumed was a general term for her as opposed to something The Guardian thought up. I can see why you cleaned up both of these issues as I should attribute such a quote/opinion directly rather than assume its common knowledge. Thanks again Diannaa.— GaryGill (talk) 07:37, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

When The Guardian called her the greatest, they were quoting a press release from her company. If you've got independent sources for the claim, I have no objection to it being added back. Forbes also calls her Queen of the Curve here so this might be more common than it initially appeared to me. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:12, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for taking care of the RevDel there. Given that we have had four reverted IP edits in the last two days, perhaps you'll keep an eye on the page. If we have one more, maybe SP for a week? Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:28, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

My edits disappeared from Buccaneer

Greetings and thanks for your dedication and work. I am very concern, however, as to why you made disappear my edits from the article. I spent several hours working on it and was now moving to add sources and continue the work I began yesterday. However, I just found out that you not only reverted my work but also made it disappear. My edits are 100% clean from plagiarism. I have taught it for 16 years and I have published a few encyclopedia articles on the topic. The links you offered in the edits summary have nothing in common with what I added but simply the topic. Please, take a look at my edits, and review your decision. Thanks. Deleted Fourth Industrial Revolution page

Thanks for your feedback. The Fourth Industrial Revolution entry was my first attempt to create a Wiki page. I thought I referenced/cited accordingly, but apparently not. How can I rework to get it back up? Did the entire page need to be deleted? Some parts came directly from other Wiki pages so thought that was fine, like the history of previous industrial revolutions. Maybe I shouldn't have been so ambitious and just add a smaller section to the already existing Industry 4.0 page (although it's not exactly the same thing as the Fourth Industrial Revolution - thus the reason I felt a new page was necessary). Any tips and how to proceed would be most appreciated. Marknoa (talk) 09:46, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Marknoa

There were two kinds of copyright violations in your work; a lot of it was copied from other websites, which is a violation of the policies of this website and of copyright law. And, when you copy from one Wikipedia page to another, you need to provide attribution. While you are welcome to re-use licensed content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying from other compatibly-licensed web pages, please at minimum mention in an edit summary at the new page where you got the content. A sample edit summary: Copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. There's more information at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. You might consider writing your article in draft space first, but the main issue was the copyright violations: Content you source to external websites needs to be thoroughly re-written, and content you import from other Wikipedia articles needs to be properly attributed. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:53, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Problematic file

Hello, Diannaa. The source of the File:Harmandir Sahib of Amritsar at night.jpg is under a non-commercial/non-derivative license. So, it's wrongly tagged & seems unsuitable for its upload here. BTW, there are plenty of free images of this temple at the Commons. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:52, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @NitinMlk: I tagged the file as F3 since the licence on Flickr is {{cc-by-nc-nd-2.0}}, and it has been deleted. — JJMC89(T·C) 23:38, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Diannaa. I just came across an overtly promotional bio, and wonder which came first, Vito Palumbo or [9]. World Bowls Championship

Hello Diana, What material was copyrighted please? I took the information from an existing page World Bowls Events created by a different user. I wasn't aware that I had added anything. Racingmanager (talk) 10:03, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

The edit was picked up by a bot as being a copyright violation. While the website http://www.ashfieldbowlingclub.com.au/world_champions_93.html does have a copy of the material, I see that you did indeed move the material from the article World Bowls Events. However, apparently you did not know that when moving or copying material from one Wikipedia article to another, you need to provide attribution? This is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Please follow these important steps in the future, especially the edit summary, not only to provide the required attribution, but to help me identify content that has been moved so that false positives are easily identified when checking the bot reports. Sorry about the scary warning. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:36, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Block of user Oldyorke

This block you imposed on user Oldyorke is probably not what we should be doing. I agree 100% that this editor has been cut-and-pasting material that violates WP:COPYVIO rather explicitly. In many cases, I've fixed the problems. In many cases, I've notified the editor or used an edit summary indicating the problem. The fundamental issue here is that the editor doesn't understand the policy and doesn't read / respond to messages. Oldyorke has tried to add the required sources, but just doesn't know *HOW* to do so properly, and we have no mechanism to teach this editor.

It's annoying as hell to clean up the messes that have been created, but these are productive edits. Sure, the block meets policy but the effect is to throw out a well-meaning editor who has made a substantial number of useful edits....

... and who has simply evaded the block -- again without understanding or responding to the block -- by going back into business as the cleverly disguised Oldyorkey. Alansohn (talk) 19:07, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Did you know there's 60 to 100 copyvio reports being filed at https://tools.wmflabs.org/copypatrol/en each day? Checking these reports consumes almost all of my editing time. You are welcome to attempt to mentor some or all of these users but if I try to do that too, there will be nobody to check the bot reports. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's the reality of it. There was no Copyright Violation on Gautama Buddha in Hinduism

Greetings Diannaa ! You removed one edit of mine on Gautama Buddha in Hinduism telling that it is a copyright violation from accesstoinsight.org. I am sorry to say but the same website issues the license and says that the content can be distributed freely. It reads like this at the bottom of the same page:

"©1982 Buddhist Publication Society. You may copy, reformat, reprint, republish, and redistribute this work in any medium whatsoever, provided that: (1) you only make such copies, etc. available free of charge and, in the case of reprinting, only in quantities of no more than 50 copies; (2) you clearly indicate that any derivatives of this work (including translations) are derived from this source document; and (3) you include the full text of this license in any copies or derivatives of this work. Otherwise, all rights reserved. Documents linked from this page may be subject to other restrictions. Transcribed from the print edition in 1995 by Bradford Griffith under the auspices of the DharmaNet Dharma Book Transcription Project, with the kind permission of the Buddhist Publication Society. Last revised for Access to Insight on 30 November 2013."

I further request you to revert yourself. Thanks for understanding. With best regards always, Terabar (talk) 20:22, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Terabar and thanks for your message. Unfortunately this license is not liberal enough for us to be able to accept the material here, because Wikipedia's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License allows unlimited copying and commercial use, both of which are forbidden under the terms of their license. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:31, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Kingston (town), New York

I find your use of the axe on the above-mentioned article somewhat exuberant. I believe some material re St. Ann's would have come from Lafort's 1914 "The Catholic Church in the United States" and Burtsell's entry in the 1907 "The History of Ulster County, NY", both of which are in the public domain. However, I cannot seem to access the deleted material to confirm this. Mannanan51 (talk) 00:57, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

The material is present in its entirety at http://www.saintanns.org/story.html, and is obviously not from 1914 sources, since it covers events throughout the 20th century. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:01, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@Jrichman123: You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.

Another problem is conflict of interest. Editing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:45, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Multiple Sclerosis Association of America page deletion

Hi Diannaa,

I'm messaging about the deletion of a recent page I've created. I'm the PR & Marketing Coordinator at the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America and we were hoping to create a Wikipedia page about our programs and services.

The page I created was given a speedy deletion on the grounds that it was violating copyright infringement laws. However, as a representative of the organization, I do not believe our page was plagiarism. We simply would like similar information on our Wikipedia page as we have on our home website as another resource for people looking for help with multiple sclerosis.

Is there any way that we could reverse this deletion and let the page stand as it was?

I am also providing the contact information for Andrea Griffin, our Vice President of Communications and Marketing in case you have any questions: agriffin@mymsaa.org (800) 532-7667, ext. 123

That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.

The third problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page.

So if you wish to add the copyrighted content to a Wikipedia article, the proper licenses and permissions will have to be in place. Please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how that would be done. Or, you could write a new article that does not closely paraphrase the material available online. And you would have to avoid the conflict of interest guideline while doing so. Even then, chances are that the article would be speedily deleted as not notable enough for an article. Sorry the reply could not be more favourable. Regards, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

LaMia Flight 2933 radio transmission transcipt

Hi Dianna. You must have missed my informal invitation. So I wanted to beg the benefit of your expertise on a copyright question that has arisen over at Talk:LaMia Flight 2933#Transcript of communication. Many thanks for any advice you could give. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:35, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Sorry I did not receive a ping. Will respond there. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:44, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your sensible input, Diannaa. I wonder who does hold the copyright. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:53, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The original material may or may not be copyright as it is not a literary work. Whoever did the translation owns copyright on the translation. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:18, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
If the original material was not copyright (how would one determine this?), then in theory I suppose an audio file, or a link to an audio file, could be added to the article (within the limits of WP:WEIGHT)? Not that useful on English language wiki without a translation, of course. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:27, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
You would determine it by finding out what country they were in and looking it up in their copyright law. I usually start with commons:Commons:Copyright rules by territory which mostly applies to images but sometimes has useful information about prose as well. In this instance the Commons page provides a link to http://www.wipo.int/wipolex/en/text.jsp?file_id=126023 which gives copyright protection to literary, scientific and artistic works. For the translation, you would have to know who did the translation and in what country they reside to determine whether or not it is copyright and for how long. It's all moot if your source material is a YouTube video, because YouTube is not a reliable source. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:34, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. Just for info, as you will see from the article, the aircraft was approaching Medellin in Colombia, whuch is also where the ATC station was. I'm not sure it's possible to deterine in which country the translator resides. But I'm not sure it makes any difference here that "YouTube is not a reliable source." We can all hear he audio as well as anyone else (unless you think YouTube have in some way degraded it?) We can all see the translation from the Spanish (unless you think YouTube have altered it in some way?) Martinevans123 (talk) 13:58, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
I suggest you find secondary sources that discuss the transcript. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:59, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it might be worthwhile leaving a comment to that effect in the Talk page thread. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:02, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The one I found is from CNN, and it says "The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority could not confirm the authenticity of the recording". You will need to dig around some more. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:48, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
That's very intersting. I guess Colombia CAA would say that, wouldn't they? And it's interesting that CNN decided to publish an extract of the transcriot anyway. I wonder if an offical version of the exchange will feature in the final report from the investigators. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Shanoo Sharma

Hi Diannaa. Would you mind checking Shanoo Sharma for copyvios. Lots of content was just added by an IP which has the feel of a copy-and-paste type of edit and actually looks like it comes from this. The edits were made by a new account who probably just does not know about relevant Wikipedia policies. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:39, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Under the rules of the copyvio core template and the listing at WP:CP, the user now has one week to propose a rewrite. A better option would have been to tag as A7 and G12. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:23, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Hmmm...my mistake then. I didn't realize that adding the template meant that the article could not be tagged or nominated for deletion. I also wasn't sure if A7 could be argued for the version prior to the IP's edits based upon WP:CCS since the source cited might be considered to be sigcov and because others besides the IP had been editing the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:43, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
I don't see why we could not tag it for deletion. But we are not supposed to clean the copy vio until the week is up. Removing all that copyvio leaves no content to support notabiliy, hence my suggestion that A7 may apply. What is "sigcov"? — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:47, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The article cited as a source seems to show that Sharma has received some significant coverage in at least one reliable source which might indicate she is notable as a casting director in India. I also saw some other things online like this, this and this which might also indicate notability, at least in the Bollywood film industry. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:03, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
Okey dokey, A7 is out in that case. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:44, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello. Most if not all of the text in these edits was copied verbatim from the first source given in the edits. I have reverted the edits but the copyvio needs to be hidden from view. Cheers, - Tom | Thomas.W talk 16:16, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

Copyright violations abounding

Hi Diannaa, I came across an editor today who changes IPs like t-shirts, and who has been dropping copyright violations across numerous park and coyote/wolf attack articles--you can follow my edit history of the last 12 hours for some examples. I'm guessing you've been aware of this, and notice that you warned one of the incarnations and rev/deleted an edit last month [10]. This is by way of saying that I've left a number of new rev/delete opportunities today, and to ask that you and talk page stalkers keep an eye open for more. Perhaps there's a more systematic way of tracking these that improves on my slow following of breadcrumbs. Thanks, 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 02:30, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

  • And, incidentally, pretty much everything they've added is vulnerable to reversion, since nothing is sourced. I'm finding related accounts going back months.... 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 02:38, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
  • For what it's worth--and I'm setting this all down just to share the observations--the nexus seems to be Taylor Mitchell, which the 2602.304 and 74.248 accounts started editing a year ago. Thanks, 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 02:55, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
What you could do is start collecting IPs and once you have a bunch that are similar, post at WP:ANI to get someone who knows how to do IPv6 range blocks to see what can be done. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:32, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

About Balada A Symphony of Eternity article

Hello Diannaa, this is Duras1989189, in regards to that article I want to let you know that I am the author of the novels and the sources that I quoted are from tv trope pages that I also wrote and from smashwords accounts that I made and also wrote.

So it's a bit jarring to say you deleted the article on copyright grounds when I am pretty sure that as the author of both the books, the sources and the articles I hold all the copyright rights. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duras19891989 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

@Duras19891989: What you need to do if you are the copyright holder and wish to release this material to Wikipedia under license is to follow the instructions at WP:Donating copyrighted materials. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:29, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Dianna, I read the source. I realize that I reverted the removal of the summary. You erroneously hid the four revisions, which omitted the summary. Can you unhide the four and then hide the others or something? --George Ho (talk) 06:04, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Actually, never mind. The source copied this revision and then posted it on 6 January 2011, which is nearly six years ago. George Ho (talk) 06:08, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

In other words, the blog copied from Wikipedia. George Ho (talk) 06:08, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

I cited the blog post as backwards copy of one of the revisions. Can you unhide the revisions to fix the misconception? --George Ho (talk) 06:15, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Copyrighted images

Hi. I recently found these two images of two Turkish actresses which seem to be copyrighted (1 and 2). Both of them seem to be taken during the photo shoots for these ladies' TV series or movies, thus it's very likeky that they're not free for common use. The uploaders also claim that these photos are their own works, and I doubt it to be true. Keivan.fTalk 08:28, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

I've located some potential sources and nominated both of these for deletion on the Commons. Thanks for reporting, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:55, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Henrik Svensmark copyright concern

Some of the material you included in the above article was copied from http://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2016/11/01/science.aaf2649.abstract, a copyright web page. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you think I made a mistake. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your remark. I had independently reworked the text with the Notepad editor before to edit it in Wikipedia and applied quotes to the conclusions, but likely insufficiently for one sentence in the middle of the text. Now I have completely reformulated all the text with my own words. The main contents and the conclusions are now clearly described without anymore copyright concern. Sorry for the inconvenience. @ThorbyTech: Providing a citation is not the same thing as providing attribution. If you copy the material without changing anything, you need to add attribution as well as a citation. The template {{PD-notice}} does this by adding a statement that says "This article incorporates text from this source, which is in the public domain". This lets the reader know that you copied the text rather than wrote it yourself. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:35, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

This one has lotsa plenty of copyvio. I think I got it all now. Copyvio history section was added way back in 2007. I just stumbled across this article and found that user MBMA EBender introduced a significant amount of promotional material back on Halloween. I can't find exactly what it's a copyvio from, though, because the language seems to have been spammed so heavily across the metal-building-system universe (per my Google searching) that I'm not sure who originally wrote it. There are a lot of issues here (including WP:COI/WP:PAID) and I'm not sure how best to proceed. What do you recommend? Thanks as ever! - Julietdeltalima (talk) 18:52, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Diannaa, I know you are excellent at dealing with copyright issues. Could you please look at Toronto Police Service#Court Services, and then at this link. The content was added en bloc with this edit back on August 27, 2009. The Wayback Machine does not have it back quite that far but I think it's safe to assume that it's copy vio. I will take it out now. If you want to write up some replacement prose that would be great. I will think about doing revision deletion later. About a thousand edits would need to be hidden so maybe I will not do it. Thanks for reporting. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:33, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

List of fictional dogs

Hi Diannaa. Thank you for your invaluable work cleaning up copyright problems! A few days ago, you correctly deleted a number of additions to the article List of fictional dogs, since they were copied from http://www.lingerandlook.com/Names/DogsallList.php. The website now placed a notice at the bottom of the website stating The contents of this page are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). This release has also been published on 4 other pages on that website, and I have archived all of them at Talk:List of fictional dogs with the {{Text release}} template (currently collapsed under the heading that reads Text releases → click [show] to view). ticket:2016121710013983 at OTRS is relevant to this.

Since the content is now under a free license, could you please undelete the revisions at List of fictional dogs? Thanks! Mz7 (talk) 21:32, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Re: Copyright

Hi Diannaa – Thank you for sharing your feedback and for trying to improve the Edgewood article. I think I understand what you are saying, but can you explain why the entire section was removed? If you refer back to the last version of the page before I made any edits, the history section borrowed heavily (almost entirely) from the same source I reference. There were no citations or references of any kind. Yet, that version went unchallenged and unchanged for about three (3) months. What makes the paragraph that I added (with citation) more egregious than what had been there before? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuboi (talkcontribs) 15:20, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

@Tuboi: The earlier copyright violation went undetected for a while. That does not mean it's okay to add more. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:17, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
@Diannaa: Thanks. As a new contributor, the fact that the text preceding mine was allowed to remain for so long sent incorrect messages about what standards are acceptable/expected. It seemed that since the "original" was okay, then surely adding to it with a reference would be okay as well. Good to know that is not the case. Thanks again. Copy-edit Help Suggestion

Hi, Diannaa, Can you send me to a tool that can find and mark all of my own copy-paste edits or too close para-phasing of non PD sources of show me how to check multiple source at once. I only got about 20% done checking it one source at a time and then added more stuff that needs to be checked. There is a lot of bad edits over the years before I really knew what I was doing and some more that I knew better but got lazy and forgot to re-word it (perhaps editing all night but do have a memory and typo problem). This is the issue:; located here. Thank you very much in advance. Johnvr4 (talk) 03:29, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in helping with clean-up. The tool that I use is https://tools.wmflabs.org/copyvios/. If you wish to create a list of the articles you have worked on, there's a handy tool at https://tools.wmflabs.org/contributionsurveyor/. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:46, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Diannaa. Is there any way to exclude quotes or WP:PD text sources from detection? And Is there a minimum standard detection that requires super-immediate changes. Johnvr4 (talk) 15:57, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
There's no way that I know of to remove PD sources from the search. Besides, you might consider looking at those articles regardless, to ensure that the template {{PD-notice}} is in place where copying from the source has occurred. Normally when I detect copyvio I clean all of it. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:56, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Enthusiast01/Bullaful

See here and here. Regarding Bullaful (talk · contribs), would you be willing to unblock his Enthusiast01 (talk · contribs) account if he agrees to adhere to WP:Copying within Wikipedia each time? Yes, Enthusiast01 and Bullaful are one and the same. I've edited alongside Enthusiast01 long enough to recognize him no matter the name change, but I wouldn't feel comfortable reporting him in a sock investigation like he's one of the problematic socks I often deal with and sometimes choose to ignore. Enthusiast01 was often a productive editor, and many of our long-term productive editors don't adhere to WP:Copying within Wikipedia. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 17:43, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Enthusiast01 was blocked for copyright violations, copying from external websites like he did at Juvenile detention in the Northern Territory and Northern Territory Electoral Commission and Energy in Victoria, not for internal copying. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:52, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
I was thinking about the "copying within Wikipedia" warnings you gave him, as seen here, here and here, but I see that you warned him for the more serious issues after that. Still, he has the option to appeal his block. The socking makes it worse, but the option is there. I will wait and see if he responds. He likely will not. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 18:27, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Diannaa: I received your message about the Richard Kiser article having some copyright issues? Although I did take some of the verbiage from the original website I did change it enough to undergo a copyright challenge. There was nothing copyright infringing in what was included into the article. I am not a new editor to Wikipedia and have created many articles here on the mainframe. I would ask that you look at this again and please point out to me where this copyright infringement is and why you feel it does this. This would be for my own better understanding. Thank you--Canyouhearmenow 19:54, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

After going back and reviewing what the copyvio detector is picking up, I found that the major things its reporting are the organizations that Kiser won awards from. There is nothing we can do to change those names because they are in fact the organizations and awards he has in fact won. So if that be the case it would be a copyvio anyway one would write it. So I believe we have a false copyvio report here.--Canyouhearmenow 20:35, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
  • (talk page stalker)Hi CYHMN, please see here for the copyvio tool's comparison. where you can see that it is more than organization names that match. Even changing words around some, the bio section still tracks the source page pretty much exactly, so we'd still have issues with close paraphrasing. CrowCaw 21:07, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
I have rewritten the bio section. After checking it with the copyvio tools it now comes up with a passing grade. I didn't even know we had a tool such as this even with all of my years editing. Of course this is only the first time I have experienced a notification such as this. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Is there a way to get someone to review it now and restore the verbiage to the bio section. I have followed the protocol to place it on the layout page and on the articles talk page.--Canyouhearmenow 22:43, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
@Canyouhearmenow: Sorry for the alarming notice. There's still some extremely close paraphrasing, because you are still presenting exactly the same material in exactly the same order. I have done some more edits. Problems: Each of your paragraphs covered the same material as the corresponding paragraph in the source document. It's tricky with a chronology, but possible, to avoid close paraphrasing. For example, the material about Chet Atkins is already mentioned in the Music section, so you can leave that out of the bio section. Leave out some of the other less important details. Your version will almost invariably be shorter than the source text. The awards can go in a separate "Awards" section, and don't list them in exactly the same way or the same order as they are listed at rkisermusic.com. You need a better cite for the Telly Award, because the one you've provided fails verification. Some of the other citations fail verification as well, because they don't mention Kiser (I have marked them). Please have a look at what I did so you can get an idea how to do it better in the future. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:32, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
@Diannaa: Thank you for the rewrite. I am fine with what you did. Whenever I am writing an article I usually place the verbiage on the page and then I go back and start putting the various sections together and taking out repetitive verbiage. I just didn't have enough time to get this one done before it was flagged. I will do that however. I also looked for a better Telly award cite and found the website, however, for some reason they are not going back to 2008 when the award was presented. But I will keep looking and will find one. I appreciate you taking time to work with me on this. I am usually having to figure all of this stuff out for myself. When you restore the article I will start working on the various other issues.--Canyouhearmenow 23:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
The copyvio was detected by our new automated system, https://tools.wmflabs.org/copypatrol/en. In the future please make sure all your material is copyright compliant before you save it to this wiki. Wikipedia page not visible on Google search

Hi there. While I was checking so that my effort for the information I have provided and time I have invested on creating pages doesn't goes in vain, I was not able to find them on Google search. For example I created a page xyz and so while typing xyz on Google search bar, I was not able to find the page xyz I created on Wikipedia. But they are visible on other pages to which they are linked. May I know what could be the reason and how other pages of Wikipedia are visible on Google search and not mine? May I also know what changes do I have to make so that my page can be visible after searching just like other Wikipedia pages.

Regards, SBson1357 SBson1357 (talk) 06:51, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Please see the article Google Search. Google Search crawls the web looking for new things to list in its search results. Sometimes it takes a while for new articles to appear in Google search results. This is something Google is doing at their end. Please see http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Your-Website-Indexed-by-Google for some instructions for attempting to get Google to index new pages. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:08, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Brian Kowitz

Dianna, I am writing to resolve a content dispute. I believe the standard protocol is to "Assume good faith".

Your comments state, "This is the current revision of this page, as edited by Diannaa (talk - contribs) at 16:54, 22 December 2016 (remove copyright content copied from http://thebaseballwarehouse.com/Brian_Kowitz.html). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this version."

However, the content on both the Baseball Warehouse and Wikipedia are from the same author, namely Brian Kowitz. So, how can it be a violation of copyright if the content is 100% factual written by the title of the person? More importantly, this seems like a big waste of time, after I learned all the SYNTAX for Wikipedia and then you came along and deleted everything. Please help me understand HOW to get the biography updated given this new evidence?

GoldenBrendan (talk) 02:13, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

I removed the unblock template since Diannaa doesn't need to be unblocked. Huon (talk) 02:56, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
@GoldenBrendan: There's no evidence that the web page http://www.thebaseballwarehouse.com/brian-kowitz-1.html is released under a compatible license. There's no evidence that Brian Kowitz is the author of the source web page or that he is the person who added it to the Wikipedia article. Regardless of who the author might be, we can't copy copyright material onto this wiki without the express written release of the material under a compatible license. There's more information on this topic at WP:donating copyrighted materials. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 08:34, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Possible copy vio

Hello D and Merry Xmas Eve (my time anyway) When you have a moment could you check on Maia (novel)#Glossary of terms that appear in .22Maia.22. It has been many years since I last read the book but that looks like a direct copy of a glossary that was at either the beginning or the end of it. While you are at it this Beklan Empire probably needs to be checked as well. The editor is obviously a fan of Adams (as am I) so part of me is hoping they are okay but I fear that they may need altering or deleting. I know you are probably busy in real life so I will close by hoping that you and yours have a wonderful time tonight and tomorrow. MarnetteD|Talk 02:08, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

I have removed the list material on Maia (novel). I am unable to prove copyvio but regardless of the copyright issue, such lists are not what we are looking for, per WP:NOT. Beklan Empire looks okay, the prose has been sitting there unaltered since 2008 so even if it was copied from somewhere it will be hard to prove now. The short list of locations is ok to include. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:49, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. I'm the editor who added Maia (novel)#Glossary of terms that appear in .22Maia.22. I just wanted to let you know that the material I added was not lifted from the book. It contains no such glossary. If it is not appropropriate in the article, then I am sorry to have added it.
For clarification, the edit which added the list of characters to the article does appear to be taken from the beginning of the novel. That edit was not made by me. Veritycheck (talk) 16:17, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Liebenberg and Kaplan

Hi Diannaa. Would you mind checking Liebenberg and Kaplan for copyvios? According to Template:Did you know nominations/Liebenberg and Kaplan, there was a 63.9% match with content from this source. I did discuss the copying and pasting of content with the article's creator at User talk:KIRTIS#Copy and pasting, but was assured that it was only her own work from word files. It's quite possible the the original source material was copied into a word file, edited a bit and then copied once again into the article, but cannot be sure of that. Anyway, the editor likely means well, but just is still unaware that Wikipedia does not allow such a thing. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:36, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

The source website is dated Sept 26 and the content was added after that date, so it's a copyright violation, and will have to be cleaned. Terrace Theatre (Minnesota) contains some of the same material and will have to be cleaned as well. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:51, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Policy-compliant image?

Hello Dianna

There was an error when I attempted to add upload explanation to my image revision, so the upload explanation was left out. I would like to let you know that I know the Wikipedia policies governing images by heart. It would help if you actually cited the part of the policy that you think I am violating ... so that I can prove that you are wrong.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 12:39, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria policy 3B: Minimal extent of use. An entire work is not used if a portion will suffice. Low- rather than high-resolution/fidelity/bit rate is used (especially where the original could be used for deliberate copyright infringement). This rule also applies to the copy in the File: namespace. WP:Image resolution guideline: At the low pixel count end of the range, most common pictorial needs can be met with an image containing no more than about 100,000 pixels (0.1 megapixels), obtained by multiplying the horizontal and vertical pixel dimensions of an image. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 16:34, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
As for NFCC§3B, 1920×1080 is high, 800×429 is low.
As for WP:IMAGERES, it is not a policy; it is a guideline, i.e. "it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply". What is more important than having about 100,000 pixels is that the image must show what its FUR claims it is showing.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 05:38, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
These images are being automatically tagged by an admin using AWB, and automatically reduced by a bot, so don't be surprised if you are caught in a slow edit war attempting to keep them over-size. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:12, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
I'll talk to the tagging admin. Images have a purpose and if that purpose is not served, they are useless. I am sure they see reason. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 12:25, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Good Day Diannaa

I believe there had been a serious error in removing my contribution to Hemispherical Combustion Chamber (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Bd64kcmo#Hemispherical_combustion_chamber_copyright_problem) . As a result my contribution was stripped down to the point that it renders nothing about the history of the engine. Yes, the referenced work by Barney Gaylord is copyrighted, but if one looks deeper into his website, it will be seen that Barney elaborates: "Permission is granted to not for profit entities (primarily intended to reference vintage car clubs and vintage automobile hobby enthusiasts) to reproduce any information in this web site, either in electronic form or in printed newsletters, subject to the conditions that credit to the source is noted, and that this information shall not be sold or redistributed for profit."

I have been in communication with Barney and other MGA Twin Cam enthusiasts for permission to use additional images, as well as the ones I previously displayed. I have permission to show all of them, but I need to know what proof Wikipedia needs. For email, Barney can be reached at (Redacted), if you need to directly communicate with him. Meanwhile, I will send whatever is needed here. Please review his web page for copyright exceptions, and let me know. I will refrain from reverts until I hear from you within a reasonable time, say, 7 January?

Thanks and have a blessed day.

How do I initiate a SPI?

Hi Diannaa. A strange character has popped up, and the username rings bells. I suspect a previously banned user. How do I check it out? Regards Irondome (talk) 00:31, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Go to WP:SPI and read the instructions as to what sort of evidence is required. Behavioural evidence such as editing the same articles (with diffs); similarities in speech patterns, particular spelling errors, similar time-of day editing patterns, similarity of username, etc. You must have a clear idea as to who the master is; no fishing expeditions. Then go to the section labelled "How to open an investigation" and carry on from there. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:11, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

john ag davis

Hi, no complaints about checking up for copyrightness on John A. G. Davis, but on a perhaps related note, do you know why all those recent edits aren't available on the history page? I've not been here for a while, so maybe I missed something? thanks. Gzuckier (talk) 04:00, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Gzuckier: please see WP:CRD, item #1, which has been policy since October 2009.—Odysseus1479 04:30, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Diannaa, would you have a moment to comment on whether this is a copyright violation? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:49, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Proper arrangement of table in M. S. Narayana filmography article.

Hi there. I'm facing problems while adding information to the particular article I've mentioned above. I did so because there were a lot more movies that were missing in his filmography so I added. I have added as much as I knew. Can you please arrange them as the table is getting irregular in 2003, 2004, 2006 and now 2015 after I tried to re-arrange it.

/* DYK nomination of Liebenberg and Kaplan */ Issues to be addressed

Thank you for your work on the article. Do you have an opinion on the heading for the last section? I agree with Marchjuly that "Births, Rebirths, Deaths" may be a bit flowery for Wiki, but I haven't been able to come up with a good alternative. Also, I asked Jonathunder for advice on posting a photograph of Liebenberg that I found online through Hennepin County Library digital collections. Are you in a position to advise on that?KIRTIS (talk) 13:27, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

@KIRTIS: As to this photo, is the photographer known? Jonathunder (talk) 15:01, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
@Jonathunder: Thanks for asking, it is part of the Minneapolis Newspaper Photographs Collection. I'm sending you more info. ALSO, thanks for changing that heading. I think "Legacy" is perfect and hopefully not "too PR-ish."KIRTIS (talk) 19:35, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Horatio Nelson List of Freemasons Copyright Problem.

Hello and thanks for your interest in the list. First of all, if you look at the bottom of the page you linked to, http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/biography/nelson_h/nelson_h.html, you will see they, the GL of BC&Y, copied the text from Denslow. Secondly, Lord Nelson's Masonic affiliation is confusing, but he is an important historical figure so I decided to use the full Denslow text which I'm sure as meticulously researched seventy years ago. I've met you half way and put the quoted text in a quote box, which wrecks the visual flow of the list (and some people will object to it), but as I said since it's Lord Nelson I think it's appropriate.

I would also point-out that I have added about 900 names to the list in question spending countless hours doing it. I also defined the List of Freemasons:Manual_of_Style.

Thanks!  Eric Cable  !  Talk  15:05, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

@EricCable: Copying the prose from Denslow is also a copyright violation, as his work was published in 1957, and thus is still under copyright. Now that it is clearly framed as a quotation it's ok to include. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:36, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Also, at 710 kB, the page is getting too big, and needs to be split. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:38, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
That is already being discussed at Talk:List_of_Freemasons_(E–Z). Please let the people who have spent countless hours over a number of years deal with it. Thanks. Eric Cable  !  Talk  01:27, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
My only reason for visiting the page was to clean up the copyvio. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:35, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of International Collection of Microorganisms from Plants (ICMP)

Hello, I noticed that nominated my page International Collection of Microorganisms from Plants (ICMP) for speedy deletion, I understand the reasons for doing so. I have rectified the copyright issue by adding a copyleft statement to the page here: http://www.landcareresearch.co.nz/resources/collections/icmp/history Regarding notability the collection is just as notable as any in this category: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Culture_collections perhaps more so as it is the largest one in the Southern Hemisphere, I will make this clearer in a re-edit of the text. I trust that this will be sufficient to have the page undeleted. Kind regards, Onco p53 (talk) 21:27, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

This has already been done by the deleting admin. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:33, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
