Lord Gaben Edit

Respectfully, I’m writing in hopes that you’ll please reconsider reverting my contribution post. It is common knowledge for PC gamers/enthusiasts that Gabe Newell is AKA Lord Gaben. A simple Google search will reflect this. Lord Gaben is a term of endearment. I’ve been using Steam,a gaming service which he founded/developed under his parent company Valve, for 17+ years. Thank you. Grumblecopter (talk) 02:37, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Experienced user with multiple issues

Hi discospinster,

Just thought I'd bring this to you as it appears beyond my experience level and you've popped up in my watchlist enough that you were the first person I thought of to turn to.

User Neonknights, not pinged so they're not dragged to this page. Almost all their edits are made without using the edit summary. The only edit summary I can find is the one that caught my eye on 'recent changes' for being slightly inappropriate (to List of films featuring miniature people). Seems like a case of 'warn for not using edit summary', except they've already been warned in February for that exact reason. I don't know what to ask exactly, but if you could take a look and if it needs attention, great, if not then I guess that's on me for wasting your time.

Many thanks, JC aka JtheKid15 (Communications) 17:21, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

NHA1 and NHA2 Theorems on Trivial Knots

These results appear in book The Dimensions of Truth, A Modest Reconciliation of Science and Religion by N H Andreas The two theorems are developed in the context of a proof that human free will is limited to choices from a pragmatically infinite number of allowed choices. Since human lifetime is limited if the number of choices is sufficiently large all the available choices can not be exercised in a finite amount of time. Thus the illusion of free will is created. So even the most complicated knot that can be created by what appears to be free will and including the so-called prime knots as special examples obey the Theorems:

NHA1 PXP+RXR=4(1+2+3.......+P)+1 NHA2 RS=4(1+2+3.....+P)

P= Number of intersections R= Number of simply connected regions present S= Number of point to point segments

"Unnecessary" edits on Cocteau Twins, etc

Hello, I've noticed a few of my recent edits have been reverted by yourself as "unnecessary" and, while I understand this may not seem like a big deal in the grand scheme of things, as said person being edited in said pages (literally trying to just update my own information) I am simply attempting to avoid discomfort and dysphoria to see things listed as they currently are. I realise that in relation to the page contents themselves these updates may seem unnecessary or trivial, but these little changes have been very beneficial for me on a personal level (with family life being so public), if that makes any sense. I would be grateful if they could be left as they are, please. Thank you for your time.LoreleiSekhmet (talk) 14:04, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Unfortunately we do not have a reliable source stating that the person in question uses they/them pronouns. This would be required under WP:BLP. We can't take your word for it because we don't know who you are. ... discospinster talk 14:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
That is a fair and valid assessment, I can state for the record that the person in question is me but you are within your right be sceptical without proof. Apologies, I was unaware about the specific rulings with regards to WP:BLP (I am new to this and wiki formatting), although I can state that "they/them" pronouns are visibly listed on social media accounts (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Soundcloud), if that counts as enough of a source? I have not linked to them directly as I read that it is frowned upon to do so under WP:EL but if it's necessary I can provide them.LoreleiSekhmet (talk) 17:57, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

CSO Ada Ankara deletion.

Hi Discospinster ! Thank you for your warning bout redirection of CSO Concert Hall ‎ page to CSO Ada Ankara page. Actually what i did was not copy-pasting the content under CSO Concert Hall under the new title. First, i created much longer article and used much more sources at CSO Ankara Ada page; and when i realized that CSO Concert Hall is also about the same building i wanted to combine those two articles under CSO Ada Ankara which is the official name of the venue. Now, i see that CSO Ada Ankara was deleted. Does that mean, all sources and information deleted? Is it possible to get that page back, at least to my sandbox? Teyora - Development first look!

Hi! I'm Ed6767, the original creator of RedWarn, now one of the most popular tools on the English Wikipedia that's been used by over 1,000 Wikimedians to make over 300,000 edits since mid-2020 that's been praised for its user friendliness and ease of use, but criticised for its limited functionality. I'm leaving this message as I think it may be of interest here - I left the RedWarn project in November to develop Teyora, my successor to RedWarn (alongside Chlod's UltraViolet). It's a new in development web app that uses some of the latest web technologies to create a highly extendable all in one editing tool with a focus on administration, counter vandalism and general patrolling - not to mention, it'll work on every Wikimedia project without any prior configuration and can be used by any user with at least auto-confirmed rights*. Now, I'm ready to give the Wikimedia community a first look at what I've been doing over the past six months and what to expect going forward.

You can check out the 20 minute first look at the in development version on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzlpnzXdLP4.

There's lots more to expect too! Why not read the full details page at meta:Teyora and leave any feedback, comments or wishes at meta:Talk:Teyora (please leave any correspondence there to keep discussion centralised). If you're interested, you can leave your signature

*with basic features, advanced features require configuration. To prevent abuse, auto-confirmed users will be in a restricted mode until approved by an admin or via rollback rights.

"Campaign" edits

I have noticed you repeatedly removing my edits to Kevin Priola's wikipedia page. The reason you cite is that the information I add is campaign-y. Kevin Priola is not campaigning for any position. Furthermore, every reference that I use can be traced to the Colorado General Assembly website, and Kevin Priola's own website. My edits were entirely factual and should replace the previous edit which, instead of stating factually what he has done, makes assertions about his political positions. Every edit I have made is a neutral record of his self-pro-ported missions, his legislation, and his awards. These are not biased; they are simply true. Meanwhile, the current edit uses hot topics to generalize his supposed political opinions, citing biased newspaper articles instead of actual legislation. I would urge you to reconsider based on the guidelines wikipedia claims to uphold. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PRIOLAEDIT (talkcontribs) 17:58, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

"A proud proponent of bipartisanship, Priola maintains his loyalty to his district's constituents."
"A proponent of small business, Priola champions the successes of family owned industry, and therein remains an active member of the Adams County community."
"In the transportation sector, Senator Priola works to decongest Colorado highways whilst supporting infrastructural projects to develop the state's economy."
"Senator Priola spoke to the people of Colorado in a speech stating, "I see a day in the future when utilities sell most of their electrons and recover most of their costs in the middle of the night and in the middle of winter.""
"Kevin Priola's wife, Michelle Priola has worked in Colorado public schools for 24 years, inspiring a family-based passion for educational support that is reflected in the Senator's legislation."
He may not be currently campaigning, but your additions were more like PR than factual assertions. Meanwhile you removed all of the 33 third-party references that reported things that he actually did and said. ... discospinster talk 22:17, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Assault weapons/rifles

Assault weapons (including firearms), as a group of physical objects, do not exist. Only people can perform the act of assault. Because assault has no physical form, there is only one application of the term “assault weapon” that is legally correct. Example- a person criminally attacks another person with a baseball bat. At a court trial the baseball bat would be used as evidence and properly referred to as “the assault weapon”. This does not make every baseball bat in the world an assault weapon. In order to actually define the attributes that such a group of objects would need to be called assault weapons, we must use the definition of each individual word and then combine those attributes within an object. Assault- a criminal attack upon another person whereas the victim did not consent. Weapon- any physical object that can be used by a person to harm another person. One- an assault weapon is one that can only be used for the express purpose of assault. Not defence, not carving turkey, not hitting home runs. No such object exists. Two- an assault weapon may have the ability to assault without any human control or programming. No such thing exists. Three- it would have the ability to compel a sane, peaceful, non-criminal person to commit the act of assault. No object has such powers. There is only one thing on earth that assaults, and that is people. Objects have no choice in their use, as the use of an object is chosen by the person using it. 2604:3D09:E27F:D9D0:0:0:0:E2FC (talk) 02:20, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

It's what the weapons are commonly known as. If you have reliable sources that describe why "assault weapon" is a misnomer, feel free to add it to the article. ... discospinster talk 15:24, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

Soekaesih

Thank you for keeping an eye on the article Soekaesih that I originally wrote and which an anonymous user made edits to. I wonder if it is a family member who was trying to correct some of the dates of birth and death and remove potentially "negative" info about her son. However, without any citations I'm not sure what we can do with that info. And the info about her son being a communist and political prisoner was sourced in the citation after all. --Dan Carkner (talk) 21:23, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Is it not in the public good to understand that all the emails were real, and the real issue that people took was that they were leaked in the first place? I think it's important that people realize that these weren't falsified emails...

It is not necessary to state that in the article. ... discospinster talk 02:41, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Right, but by not, somewhere in the article, making it clear that these emails were in fact real, you're creating doubt. Also, thats how the media presented it. They never outright said they were false, but it was heavily implied that the crime was exposing corruption, not the corruption itself, and that it may have been false. How about a less intrusvie edit? Can we add the adjective "legitmate" somewhere? Are we trying to make this accurate, or politically one sided? The FACT is that they were legitmate, I'd be interested to know how you think adding that word, in any way, lessens, detracts, or hurts, the article? If anything, not directly calling them factual, hurts the whole thing, as it IS an important part of the story, and seems to imply bias by leaving it out. 100.10.76.159 (talk) 02:47, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

The article is written under the presumption that the e-mails exist. It doesn't say "alleged e-mails", so there is no reason a reader should doubt that they exist. ... discospinster talk 02:52, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Your clear bias is showing my dude. I'm sure you don't think so. It's fine , because, it's all love, this is what you do, and you're probably right from an editing POV. I'll stop editing, i'm not trying to be a ballbuster here. 100.10.76.159 (talk) 02:58, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

This kind of information will not serve anyone except creating a spooky and scaring environment. This reporting is very one sided and not a fair representation of such a professional and safe work place. We need to preserve a non-prejudice atmosphere for the tenants conducting their business in this neutral setting. With all fairness we should also report hundreds of happy events that take place in the FBC each year to enhance people lives that call this center as their 2nd home.

By the way, Raritan Center has a dedicated police headquarters present all the time and it is one of the safest industrial parks in North East verifiable by a NJ State Police inquiry.

Even if it is safe now, the Wikipedia article can still include things that happened in the past, as long as it's relevant and cited by a reliable source. There is nothing in the article that suggests that it is currently unsafe. ... discospinster talk 14:26, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Battle of James Island Changes

Hello, Sorry for not explaining thoroughly. I was rewriting this as a article I think would be helpful to this page. If I can explain to you right now and if you can put it back up later. So I had an assignment for school to create a stub search and build project. I decided to do it and rewrite it based on a book which was written by a soldier who fought in the war. I decided to post it here as I know this is 100% correct and it could be useful to others. Please let me know if that is a good explaination.

@JerrySun333333: You are welcome to add to the article, but it's not proper to completely write over what is already there, because it erases the work of the previous editors. Also, there is a Manual of Style that articles should follow, and yours did not. Thirdly, you added a biography of an author which is not relevant to the article, plus it's a copy-paste of what is on this page, causing issues with copyright. You might want to look at Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia to get an idea of what is expected. Basically, what might be appropriate for a school assignment is not necessarily the same as how it would be in an encyclopedia. ... discospinster talk 13:25, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

HTS

This is my repost since I was "attacking", I fixed the language to make it less painful to read I guess?

Hey, I saw that you keep on removing the portion on HTS for being "promotional." Now is it really? And it is pretty notable to keep on. No point on being picky of one page when there are far more notable school pages like Stuyvesants... "3.67% of Stuyvesant students went on to attend Harvard, Yale, and Princeton universities, ranking it as the 9th top public high school in the United States and 120th among all schools, public or private." Or Upper Canada College... Nothing is promotional about that. As well as Trinity School in NYC, or St. George's School (Vancouver), or Hotchkiss School or the hundreds of other pages. I can help you if you are adamant on removing any of this "promotional content." It is notable to have the amount of matriculants going from a CANADIAN high school, and is worth stating. These are not random universities, but a select group of top schools that is worth mentioning. I don't understand how it isn't something I can't talk about. I read the rules and corrected myself from *accepted to matriculated—it seems to fall under all rules and is still true (feel free to call up the school if you don't believe me). Again, I made changes from Hotchkiss's page and UCC's page to MAKE sure I stayed within the rules. If you target this page for whatever reason then at least keep the rules consistent with the other school pages as well. Thanks. Flaminfarthippo (talk) 02:05, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

The addition of that information in those articles is promotional as well, so I will remove it. High schools send students to universities, it's run of the mill information. Bragging about sending students to "Ivy League" schools is nothing but marketing. ... discospinster talk 14:17, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

BFDI (Franchise)

Interesting. I didn't think it was a franchise. This was a case of gaming of titles. The prediction was made in the AFD that variant forms of the name would be used to recreate it, and that is what happened. If there are any more attempted end runs around the protection, we may have to consider title blacklisting (which can be overridden), but we aren't there yet. Wrong transliteration of Russian titles ( Problemy Ekonomiki by Strumilin)

I corrected some misspelled titles. The way they were transliterated is wrong, there are many mistakes. For example, Проблемы экономики труда cannot be transliterated as Problemikiy Ekonomikiy Truda. Ы is transliterated as y, and not as ikiy (икий). I have no idea where you got such poorly transliterated titles from. When I share a link to the article, I, as a Russian native speaker, must explain to its readers, that the titles were spelled wrong. This undermines the credibility of the article and serves as evidence of the amateur level of its authors. 89.179.30.2 (talk) 08:04, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
