You're right, I had mistaken. It is not clear whether the novel was completed. However, on second thought, I have doubts about the propriety of putting "ongoing" to the infobox. It is sure that the story "Watashi no Ouji-sama" was completed, and the author said that there was no plan for publishing next volume in volume six. Is it better to put "ongoing" to the infobox? Haruhi Suzumiya Translations

I can appreciate the fact that I did attempt to post links on the various pages of the light novel articles that would not be considered legal. However, I think it is in the interest of giving readers access to the materials that some translation be available. No licensed English translation of the novels do exist at the present, which could even then raise the question of why the articles exist in the first place. On point 2: At WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided on point 12, it states: Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors. I do not believe the wiki you linked to satisfied this, so I removed it. As for #3, at WP:EMBED, it states that prose should always be used opposed to just listing things, and the fact that all that was listed were dates and ISBN numbers makes them less useful than, let's say, a list of useful links. And then if this article were to ever go to WP:GA, all lists would have to be converted into prose or removed (excluding references and external links of course).--十八 04:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Very few series have articles that just list the manga volumes, and if you did, you'd have to populate it with a lot more information, such as volume summaries, chapter names, and not to mention references. As for the wiki, it may be useful, but in terms of adding additional information that could not be listed in the article, I think it fails. It is after all a Japanese fansite on an English wikipedia. If it was linked on the Japanese wiki page, then it's probably more use to them than it could be to us.

But back to the manga. Yes, the source material should always be the top priority in an article on a fictional piece, but in terms of raw information and availability, the anime proves to be easier to gain and take information out of, especially for a manga that's never been translated into English. I don't see why listing when the nine volumes came out in Japan as a relavant piece of information to the article as a whole, since it as you said, just a list of boring numbers without any extra information, and not even referenced to boot. And I'm talking about good articles and featured articles here; you will be hard pressed to find a GA or FA with a list of ISBNs and when the manga were published, thus they should not be added for being extra information that could deter any article to promoting to GA or FA.--十八 05:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to chop all that back out, but that source was just not reliable. Most of the statements you added were pretty far off the mark. Blogs are generally not considered a good reference, unless they have the credentials required, and being a massive Yuri fan doesn't really qualify her. Glad that poorly researched mess didn't end up in the Manga guide it was written for, since she clearly doesn't have any first hand familiarity with the topic. Pre-Meiji Period: Use of Japanese era name in identifying disastrous events

Would you consider making a contribution to an exchange of views at either of the following:

As you may know, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disaster management came up with entirely reasonable guidelines for naming articles about earthquakes, fires, typhoons, etc. However, the <<year>><<place> <<event>> format leaves no opportunity for conventional nengō which have been used in Japan since the eighth century (701-1945) -- as in "the Great Fire of Meireki" (1657) or for "the Hōei eruption of Mount Fuji" (1707).

In a purely intellectual sense, I do look forward to discovering how this exchange of views will develop; but I also have an ulterior motive. I hope to learn something about how better to argue in favor of a non-standard exception to conventional, consensus-driven, and ordinarily helpful wiki-standards such as this one. In my view, there does need to be some modest variation in the conventional paradigms for historical terms which have evolved in non-Western cultures -- no less in Wikipedia than elsewhere. I'm persuaded that, at least in the context of Japanese history before the reign of Emperor Meiji (1868-1912), some non-standard variations seem essential; but I'm not sure how best to present my reasoning to those who don't already agree with me. I know these first steps are inevitably awkward; but there you have it.

The newly-created 1703 Genroku earthquake article pushed just the right buttons for me. Obviously, these are questions that I'd been pondering for some time; and this became a convenient opportunity to move forward in a process of building a new kind of evolving consensus. --Ooperhoofd (talk) 18:58, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Universal notability

"For our purposes, information about the article's subject cannot be non-notable at the English Wikipedia but notable at another language's Wikipedia" I think this discussion is getting away from the main point of that thread, so moving it here. I just can't comprehend this statement at all. The exact opposite - that every language would inherently have topics of no interest to people who don't speak that language - would seem to be true. What you appear to be missing is that the English Wikipedia contains many articles about topics familiar to few native speakers/readers of English (which doesn't render them non-notable). If, for example, someone were to seek the deletion of Belarusian Republican Youth Union on the basis that the subject is notable only among residents of Belarus (most of whom are not native speakers/readers of English), he/she would fail. The subject is notable on the planet Earth (and therefore warrants an article here). And that happens to be a featured article, incidentally. —David Levy 07:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

That is a big point to miss. This all makes a lot more sense now. Thanks! That justification is one we often use on this project, since we do a lot of articles on books, authors, and shows that have not been released outside of Japan. We definitely wouldn't want to do anything to undermine that general principal.

I do wonder if you're not carrying it to a bit of an extreme, though. While allowing that any subject that is notable and one language must be notable in another, I think there is room for a variation in degree of coverage. A popular novel series that is only in Japanese might well be justified in having a page for each novel in the series and several of the main characters (assuming the usual requirements, sources, etc) but the coverage on the English wikipedia is more likely to be a single page on the series as a whole. The phenomenon that you describe is a product of systemic bias, not a decision to limit the amount of coverage dedicated to non-English subjects. In other words, we might have only a single article (or even no article at all) about a popular non-English novel series simply because no one has written more than that here. If one or more editors wanted to (and could meet the usual requirements), that would be fine. The language barrier, unfortunately, renders this less likely to occur. —David Levy 13:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Really? But I'm sure that User:ChuChu has continuously cited Dengeki Bunko as a shōnen label. That aside, I own a single Dengeki Bunko light novel (Kashimashi), and there is some furigana in the text; not for every single kanji, but enough to make it seem like it's targeted towards a younger male demographic rather than the 18-35 seinen demographic which should already know all the kanji anyway. Oh, though I do have the first novel of Spice and Wolf scanned on my computer which includes the same density of furigana as in the Kashimashi light novel.--十八 10:53, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: You removed my links

I noticed you removed all the links to "Spectrum Nexus" on the reception pages I added. I saw your comment about them being a "fan site" and that reviews were biased... well aren't all the reviews that I posted under reception biased? That's why I included many different reviews (from ANN, Anime on DVD, Anime TALK, and Spectrum Nexus). You mentioned that I posted a "negative" review... well sometimes not everyone finds things to be perfect. The page you wrote that on was Death Note; I've personally watched Death Note and I think Spectrum Nexus' review of it was pretty accurate... the series dragged on for 37 episodes. Other people reviewed it and liked it, but is it so wrong that another site out there doesn't agree? Isn't that the whole point of reviews? So people can read various opinions out there? It's the reason there's sites like RottenTomatoes and MetaCritic.

I've been reading Spectrum Nexus' reviews for a long time now, and they are by far the most in-depth anime reviews I've read on the Internet. Did you bother to read any of the reviews you deleted? They are very long and thorough and that's why I put them, but you've deleted my contributions. As for that site using alias', I've sent them an email saying they should put their real names, so we'll see if they make that change.

What is wrong with me posting good quality reviews under the reception sections? That Spectrum Nexus website has been online for years... at least 8 years old if not older. Their reviews, though some might be average/negative, are all justified within 2000 words or so. I'm very puzzled why you're posting from a different account than the one you made the edits on - that can give people the wrong idea. Or wait, you posted this with your actual account and signed it with someone else? Just use four tildies, and sign it with your own account, please! I don't make the policies; fan sites without strict editorial control are not reliable sources; anyone can post anything. But that isn't why I removed all the links to the page; if you click the history tab, you can see the edit comments for those other pages, and if you look at the discussion I liked to on the talk page of your other account, you'll see why - namely, that page links to illegal translations and other copyright violations. Wikipedia bans users for linking to that sort of thing, so I would not advise putting any of that back. Additionally, while a table with scores is better than no reception, it would be better if you took the time to except a few useful quotes, as they give a more accurate picture of the reviewer's opinion. Rather than deleting the section, perhaps you should do like the guidelines recommend and integrate the trivia into the main article? It's so easy to delete, everyone does it, but usually the ones who do forget the guidelines recommend putting the info into the rest of an article rather than a seperate section. Re: Merger and ASCII Media Works

Now that the merger has gone through, I've been updating most of the pages immediately involved with the company; namely, anything in the template {{ASCII Media Works}}. However, I am unsure how to go on with the series articles with material published by MediaWorks. I've figured that series that have already ended their publication under MediaWorks, such as Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, should be kept the same, but I am not entirely sure what to do with ongoing series which will be now published by ASCII Media Works, such as Kino's Journey. For one, do we list both companies in the infobox? Do we mention in the prose that the first 11 books were published under MediaWorks and subsequent novels were published under ASCII Media Works? Dengeki Bunko is a publishing label, not a publisher. The publisher in the case of this label is MediaWorks. What I did was to add a publishing label field on the novel infobox (as requested on its talk page), in order to make the distinction between label and publisher clear. Thanks for leaving a comment on the Planetes talk page regarding your reverting of my edit. I was going to leave a message here asking why you changed my contribution, but I am glad that I didn't. Also, I was wondering if you could direct me to any more hard science fiction anime. I watched Planetes because I grew bored of (among other things) mechas with teenage pilots and have fallen in love with its hard SF illustrations and intriguing plot. Planetes is pretty dang unique in that regard. (I actually couldn't stand the anime, which took the organic, natural romance in the manga and changed it into a cliche anime they love each other but they don't know it romantic comedy.)

I would probably start with Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost Hound, and Crest of the Stars; none of them are quite what you're looking for, but they're all a bit more mature than the usual run of things. Kaiba just started, and is amazing. Moonlight Mile is probably closer to what you're looking for, but I ended up disappointed in it. Doceirias (talk) 19:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I have Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost Hound in my queue. I know that the Ghost in the Shell series (both runs) was almost hard science fiction, but my interest is more in space development than crime fighting (although I love Tachikomas). I really think Planetes is the only hard science fiction anime with space development, which is saddening. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. Jump Square

Okay, I've gone a little nuts and hacked the heck out of the Jump Square article to try to beat it more inline with a proper magazine article. I cut out a lot of stuff, cleaned up more, rearranged etc. Since you're familiar with the earlier version, I wanted to see what you thought so far? Is it an improvement? Are you horrified? I tried to base it on the work I did with Shojo Beat, which I based around the format and structure of featured magazine articles. Quite a bit of it still needs sourcing, and the sources that are there also need checked. It seems Jump Guru doesn't quite understand how referencing works, and he frequently just added a link to the official site's main page as a ref, or to a page that didn't really support anything. :( -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:26, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Since you are the one who originally translated the title, I figured it's best to consult you. Since the original OVA was basically named after The Day the Earth Stood Still, do you think The Day the Earth Caught Fire would be a better or worse translation for the manga title? Popular in usage: irrelevant, like any other alternate name. Difference between official and alternative names is worth noting in the lead, but not worth having a section for. This one is a really common argument, which is why people might come across as dismissive of it, or not bothering to refute it; the guidelines address it directly.

It's not about me being easily insulted. It's about your behavior, in particular, as being overly aggressive for a Wikipedia editor. Not that this has *any* bearing on Wikipedia whatsoever, I recently got my hands on Parasyte volume 1 (the Del Rey edition, of course ;) ), and was glancing at the copyright page for obscure reasons (^_^) when I noticed on the line "Translator/adapter:", Translator is misspelled as Translatorl. Guardian series

I removed the WP:ANIME banner because the anime adaptation is not covered in Guardian series; which means the article doesn't really fall within the Project's scope. His Dark Materials, for example, is not tagged as a WP:FILM article just because the first book was adapted into a movie. And neither is Northern Lights, for that matter.

But since the article on Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit does cover the anime adaptation, that is where the banner belongs.--Nohansen (talk) 03:39, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

We regularly cover the source novels as well as the anime; I can see the Novels banner in addition to, but we're the most likely group to work on the page. Ranma ½ Japanese volumes

Hey Doceirias, I was wondering if you might either have access to the original Japanese Ranma ½ volumes, or know someone else who does. I've been wanting to work on a chapter list for the series for some time now, but in translation, Viz compressed the series from its original 38-volume length to 36 volumes, and didn't release the series with the original number of volumes even in a second edition. Eirias is from The Dark is Rising series; used it as my first email way back when, on the theory that emails with numbers were lame and this was obscure. But it was already taken when I moved to free emails, so I added doc, which is my actual nickname. I'd probably use Zerozaki Ishiki for anything like that now. It varies; Del Rey had me do a volume a month until it was done, and the releases were originally bimonthly. Then they changed to every six months for some reason, and slowly got faster. Viz seems to be spacing things out more, but I'm still translating volume seven of Record of a Fallen Vampire now; the actual releases are only on volume four. I think. I have to aim the language at the rating they're requesting, but that usually follows from the work. I initially argued for stronger language in Parasyte, but look at the finished work, I think they were right, and it works better without it. I get away with stuff occasionally, and have been surprised by language restrictions that seemed unusually harsh, but generally things match up with what you'd expect. I object to your proposed deletion of my page

Hello, I was pretty shocked to find someone had tagged my wiki page for the Karui Shosetsu Magazine for proposed deletion. Your reasons for deleting my page, in my opinion, are completely wrong. You listed that my wiki page was spam. I could not disagree more. The Karui Shosetsu Magazine is a legitamate magazine, the first ever english light novel magazine, publishing OEL light novels, and being published by the leading english light novel website. Our magazine was reported by Anime News Network and has been discussed all around the world on blogs, forums, and websites. Almost 1,000 people have downloaded the first issue and polls on the official website reveal a strong percentage will be downloading the magazine for the second issue. Even a japanese blog supported us for what we were doing! Wikipedia lists other magazines, even very obscure ones. This wikipedia entry does the same as other light novel magazine wiki entrys does. It gives the facts on a online magazine that is being published so that when someone wants to know what it is, they can read about it on wikipedia. I am not trying to advertise, I am simply having a place on wikipedia where people can get the facts on the magazine. Now, if you have something within the wiki page that you think needs to be changed in order for it to be acceptable, tell me. I'd like to understand what you mean by self-published and a link to the wiki definition of it.

It is not too early to have a page exist. There are some manga that begin serializing, and with only a couple chapters (or just one) published in a magazine, they already have a small (but still existing) wiki entry.

You're right, you don't allow any COMPANIES to make a page. However, LightNovel.org is not a company, we are NOT commercial, and thus I see that this argument fails at an attempt to disqualify the wiki page's existance.

I also fail to understand why it matters that "I" made the page. Proper Genre charcterising to fit in with some movement of garage, when most of them fit with Pop, Rock, music and is widely known and reportable as such, and genre wise, is not alternative. If it makes you feel any better, i'll add some sources clarfyed that this is a ROck, Pop band, and as such, has resulted in some negative mainstream presses, by alternative critic types. They were called whatever they were called in the novels. Remureisu/Yuurei. (幽霊 with furigana that say レムレース). Remureisu->Lumeres is accurate, but I never turned on the subtitles to see what FUNimation's translators came up with. Doceirias (talk) 01:56, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Nope. Author doesn't ring a bell either. It was a different world back then. The afterward to the edition of Wild 7 I picked up claims the author was writing and drawing two weekly series, two monthly series, and a short story every month, which explains why shit gets sloppy sometimes. Super Comics

Super Comics is a very small, independent comics company. You should work for them now if you just love to draw and/or write but if you want to get paid more work later. Super Comics has some popular titles in their own right such as Hell High (a former title), Hell Elementary (current title), and also X-Marx. What does this have to do with the titles we are speaking about in this article it's because some of these works are inspired by Soul Eater.
