Hey, E. Your buddy the IP user is working his way through the 2011/2012 Pro Bowl selections, adding "er" to all of the Pro Bowl infobox honors. I know it's a small thing, but since you seem to be on board with the "Pro Bowl" vs. "professional bowler" distinction, could you have a little conversation with him? I'm now absolutely convinced that this is the same guy who, under several different IP addresses, has been fixated on the Pro Bowl and All-Pro infobox honors for over two years. His Wiki-OCD could be useful to WP:NFL, if we could get him on board with consensus formatting. He sure seems to have a lot of time on his hands----maybe we could channel his efforts. "Template:Infobox NFL player" issue

E, for some unknown reason, the gray screen bars behind the "Personal Information," "Career History," and "Career NFL Statistics" sections of the infobox are not displaying properly. Apparently, this is only a problem for non-active players; the infoboxes of active players are properly displaying team colors on these section header bars. I can't find any recent edit history to the template to explain this display problem. I'm hoping you can resolve/explain the issue, given your template coding expertise. Look I did not know that you would see it like that. It's not like I knew about it. I'm trying to help not trying to destroy anything but I figure or thought would be appropriate to put Pro Bowler instead of Pro Bowl but if that's the way you see it I guess I have to agree with you and your decision. A few changes

To all users who think I'm trouble,

I have been thinking carefully and have come to a final conclusion as to why some other users seem to absolutely hate me and everything I do. These are a list of things I will try to do when I edit Wikipedia. From now on I will:

Not trust Wikipedia when I use it for my own purposes.

Continue editing it for as long as I shall live!

Ignore rude messages to me and report them.

Ignore users that call me names.

Continue fighting vandalism.

Accept all help whether I need it or not.

Ask for help from users that are helpful and polite.

Give help to users who ask for it.

Spend more time on editing Wikipedia instead of trying to persuade others that I don't mean to be mean.

Not give thank you messages to users who do not recieve them well.

Never edit another user's user page.

Continue being polite and competent.

Anne Triola image

Hi Eagles247, You have helped me out so many times, and I am grateful for this. However, I need your help one more time.

My favorite actress' picture is under attack. Her name is Anne Triola. The photo is a birthday present given to me by my Mother, but we bought the picture off ebay. I have noticed that several old publicity photos make it onto Wikipedia to promote movie stars from the past like Cary Grant, Vivien Leigh, Jane Darwell, etc. There are tons of examples - and yet they want to target my photo of Anne Triola to eliminate her from Wikipedia. Her photo is from 1945 and taken by RKO Studios Inc. However, Old Hollywood pictures that were produced between 1923-1967 are supposed to be good for use on Wikipedia. Notice Cary Grant's, Vivien Leigh's and many, many others! Please help me! Thanks, Eagles247. Hi Rod. From what I can gather, you tagged the image with {{PD-US-no notice}}, which is the incorrect license since a copyright notice is clearly on the file. Note that it says on the license "This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1923 and 1977 inclusive, without a copyright notice." The articles you reference which have similar images are not copyrighted right now, as either there was no copyright notice or the copyright expired. Furthermore, this does not appear to be a simple headshot like the other images, as Ms. Triola as well as John Wayne are featured. The images was nominated for a further review, so if other users agree with you regarding the image's copyright, it will probably stay. If not, however, don't feel dejected as images, copyrights, and licensing have probably the most complicated policies on Wikipedia. Eagles 24/7 (C) 22:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Unless its author has been dead for the required period, it is copyrighted in the countries or areas that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works, such as Canada (50 pma), Mainland China (50 pma, not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 pma), Mexico (100 pma), Switzerland (70 pma), and other countries with individual treaties".

Unfortunately, unless you know for sure that the copyright was not renewed, you cannot license the image under that tag. Back again. Eagles247, I see that the original RKO Studios was founded in 1929 and became defunct in 1959. This Anne Triola/John Wayne publicity still is by RKO Studios Inc. and was photograped in 1945. Vivien Leigh's photo is by MGM. Well Eagles247, I am planning ahead now to step two. In case they choose to delete Anne Triola's photo, that will be fine. Again, speaking about that photo I was in reference to about her being pictured in Hollandia. It's on a website, and its photographer, Jack Heyn, died 45 years ago. It seems that picture could be cropped and used. My sister-in-law, Virginia, thought it'd be ideal to give Anne Triola an image. MSU Interview

Dear Eagles247,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. I am attempting to call up RKO Studios Inc. to see about getting permission with the copyright in order to save the Anne Triola-John Wayne image. They told me this morning that I have to speak with a person named Dave. I am calling their office in New York. I guess I need have them email me their decision to show proof of the transaction. After that, I might need your help with the type of tagging that is required. We will see. OK, I called David at RKO Studios Inc. in New York. Things went fine. He gave me his email address, and I sent him a copy of the photograph and additional information. It sounds like they are going to help me. I will just sit and wait. I should get an email from them on the matter. Eagles247, I will tell you how things go from there. Philadelphia did very well this season taking 3-6 and 4-8 and turning that into a 8-8 season. I was so hopeful that they would turn it around. Next year, they'll be back to normal. They need to have a good start though. I still want them to draft Kellen Moore to give Michael Vick the best backup he could possibly have. No, I wouldn't say they did "well" this season. If the Jets had beat the Giants in week 16, the Eagles would have been the Super Bowl champs instead of the Giants. Next year will be better, but that's always the motto for ever team that doesn't win the Super Bowl. I've removed the personal information you said above for your own sake. It's never a good idea to give out your planned location like that on the Internet. The only problem with Moore is that he's too short. He measured in at 5'11⅝" at the Senior Bowl, and teams are wary of drafting quarterbacks under 6' due to the difficulty of seeing over the offensive linemen. There are two starting QBs in the NFL right now that are exactly 6' (Vick and Drew Brees), but Moore is not considered by analysts to be as big of a playmaker as they are. Those are untranscluded RfAs. SoxBot included all untranscluded and active RfAs in the tally. We get rid of untranscluded RfAs by new users who have absolutely no chance of succeeding and point them in the right direction. • After these parameters should follow |college, any draft parameters, and the debut/final year/team parameters. This will be done automatically when we rename Infobox NFL retired with Infobox NFL player

Infobox NFL player, etc.

E, as you've probably noticed, I've been working my way back through the consensus All-American biographies since we recently added All-American navboxes for every year from 1889 through 2011. I've been updating the infoboxes, conforming the infobox honors to the example formatting shown on the "Infobox NFL player" page, moving birthplaces from the lede to main body text, deleting trivia from the lede, rewriting the article text to include links to both the player's university and specific college football team, and adding basic reference footnotes as appropriate. I have several observations to share:

1. Many of the player infoboxes, perhaps 20 to 30% of the older player bios, use "Infobox gridiron football player," not "Infobox NFL player" or "Infobox NFL retired. The majority of the pages for American college players that use the gridiron infobox were not CFL players, and its use seems to become more common the further back in time I go. This appears to have been a choice by the original creators of these pages. Another odd trend is the use of the CFL player infobox for American players who spent the majority of their pro careers in the NFL, and then the last season or two in the CFL (sometimes not even on an active CFL roster).

2. A sizable minority of infoboxes that were previously converted from "Infobox NFL retired" to "Infobox NFL player" were converted imperfectly. Many of the infoboxes do not properly display the career stats—while they are nominally "Infobox NFL player" templates, they are still using the old "Infobox NFL retired" field codes for stats (e.g. "stat1value," not the current "statvalue1").

3. There is a lot of garbage out there that has been added to the older, less patrolled player biography pages. We desperately need a system to monitor the older player pages for vandalism, non-conforming formatting, BLP issues, etc. My personal watchlist includes about 650 former Florida Gators athletes, including about 250 former Gator football players. I guesstimate that the weekly vandalism rate across all sports runs about 2 to 3%. That sounds like a small number at first blush, but it clearly adds up over the course of a year or more. I have also observed from personal experience that vandals usually give up and move on when they realize that their hijinks have been quickly reverted; once heavily vandalized pages become quiet when the vandals don't get to enjoy their work. I am also convinced that many would-be "vandals" are simply testing the Wikipedia "system" to see how quickly factually incorrect statements are noticed and corrected. I have found several instances where such "vandalism" has existed for three or four years without anyone reverting it.

4. There is also an amazing amount of cruft that has been added to these articles, including the proliferation of navboxes for non-notable team awards. There appear to be a number of WP editors who do not actually edit articles, but live to create navboxes for minor team awards (e.g. L.A. Rams rookie of the year, etc.). Recently, WP:CFB has begun to take baby steps to nominate some of these non-notable team and conference awards for TfD. WP:NFL is going to need to address this issue in the near future, too, or the navboxes for notable championships, awards and honors are going to be uselessly buried in cruft on many player pages.

5. As we discussed a couple of weeks ago, we still have a need for a new variant infobox for notable college football players who never played professional football and did not become coaches. There are a significant number of All-Americans, Heisman winners, and otherwise notable college players who did not become pros or coaches. I have not forgotten our discussion, and I have been keeping notes on potential infobox variations to be addressed as I have worked my way through the biographies of the consensus All-Americans. As of now, I am leaning toward a modified version of the "Infobox NFL player" template with some inappropriate fields stripped out (e.g. draft information, debut and final teams, etc.), and others potentially added or modified. Neither the NFL player or current college football player templates adequately address the needs of these notable former college athletes.

Official seating capacity changes by IP user 12.139.96.248

E247, I've got a classic IP user problem. IP user User talk:12.139.96.248 is making wholesale changes to the official seating capacities of college basketball arenas and football stadiums. He is doing so despite attempts to engage him through edit summaries and user talk page discussion. Despite his IP status, this not a new editor. He has made hundreds of these edits under various IP addresses over the last year or more. His usual pattern is to make dozens of changes to team, facility and conference articles, with no edit summaries, and often citing web sources that do not specifically support the proposition for which he is citing them. I have reverted him twice on the Southeastern Conference and O'Connell Center articles, and even provided properly sourced footnotes that he deleted. I am done for now so I don't violate 3RR. Regarding the O'Connell Center, I have used my 3rd RR piecemeal so that each piece of added information that was unsupported by a source was removed individually. My larger point, and my reason for darkening your talk page, is this same IP has an extensive history of sweeping edits to facility articles (and related team and conference articles), unsupported by reliable sources, in whole or in part. This not the first time that I have witnessed one of this user's sprees; it seems to happen every several months. In this particular case, the IP is citing a document that does not say what he wants it to say; the words "official capacity" do not appear. Part of the issue with the O'Connell Center's capacity is that it is a multi-purpose facility and has different capacities depending on what kind of event that it is hosting. According to the UF Associate Athletic Director for Communications ("SID"), as of today, the available-for-sale 2011-12 seating capacity for basketball games is actually 11,373. He could not tell me what the 11,548 number represented. The official capacity remains 12,000 for multiple other events. As sure as we are having this conversation, the IP will revert these changes. He is making similar unsourced or improperly sourced edits to other stadium and arena articles, and related team and conference pages in violation of WP:V and WP:RS. This includes unsourced additions of architects, engineers, contractors and construction costs. This is not a newbie, but a longtime IP who has been around long enough to know how to manipulate the system, who refuses to engage in discussion, ignores other sources, and reverts corrections. Unfortunately, users are not required to discuss edits with other users, but it is surely helpful. Administrator intervention is only necessary if the IP breaks 3RR or continuously adds information without a proper source. Hey Eagles247, I'm confused by the NFL schedule that was released, I don't believe that it is correct. I thought the rule was that your team faces an intra-conference opponents (2 at home/2 away) that every 3 year when your team faces those teams again that they switch between home and away. I also thought that when your team faces inter-conference opponents that (2 at home/2 away) that every 4 years when those teams go at it again that they switch between home and away aswell. Anne Triola photograph update

Hi Eagles 24/7, From the looks of it, it appears that we may have to delete the photograph of Anne Triola and John Wayne by the simple fact that Ms. Heath with the clip and stills licensing department no longer possess that photo as it is not in their archive, yet they have complete copyrights to the picture. However, she showed me a great photograph to replace the Triola/John Wayne photo with. She actually showed me three pictures in an email. The one that works would be a picture of her in the film "Sleep, My Love" which was an old black-and-white film from 1948. It's a great picture. However, the process is very expensive, so I will have to tell them to hold off.

I had a job interview yesterday for a fulltime special ed teacher position at a middle school. A friend interviewed me, but he told me that it would be one to two weeks before I would hear back. I need that job before I take a project like this where the price of the copyright licensing will easily run past $200.00. I'm just hurting financially at this time.

On the other hand, I did get in touch with Mr. Dunn who is connected with Jack Heyn. It's that very plain picture of Anne Triola in the South Pacific at Hollandia, Dutch New Guinea. It should be a lot cheaper. May be the best option for the time being. Thing is, I want to use that photo by Ms. Heath and Warner Bros. It would summarize her efforts with Hollywood. If I get this done and out of the way, then I can spend more time editing my college football subjects just as you do. I have a lot of pride in my Aaron Murray Wikipedia biography. Anyway, I got to emailing Peter Dunn from his www.ozatwar.com website. He was great. He and Jack Heyn are the copyright holders of the material on www.ozatwar.com. They have given me copyright permission to use their black and white photos of Anne Triola at Hollandia, Dutch New Guinea. I can work one of her photographs into her World War II section of her Wikipedia. What is the tag you use to show you've got copyright permission? I will try to work in a photograph of her's this way. I see with Vivien Leigh's Wikipedia biography, there are several photos used mixed inside her paragraphs of written content. My sister-in-law was showing me how to use this method of grabbing photos off the web as the only way I am familiar with is to upload the image. I am filling out a lot of teacher applications to give myself a shot a new teacher job. Adding Images

Hi Eagles 24/7. I am still at a loss with trying to determine how to fit another photo box (Image_is_needed_female.svg) into the article since the initial space for this to go within the Wiki box is obviously occupied. Do you just make a second photo option right beneath the first photo? If so, I will want to relocate it within the article afterwards. Just trying to sift through this. Wikipedia advises for the use of the copyright tag CC-BY-SA 3.0 as it is the simplest, because Wikipedia's text already uses that license. I still see PD-author|name as an option too. I got an email back from Mr. Jack Heyn. He said "I'm afraid this is all Greek to me." This is in reference to the permissions-commons template that I had copied and pasted. But Eagles 24/7, maybe I don't know all of the details as well. At the bottom of the form, it list the sender. It ask for the sender's name and details. Is that me? Am I the sender? Conversation with the kind photographer

Hi Eagles 24/7; I was able to discuss the permissions form with Mr. Heyn, but we kept running into obstacles. The wordpad document wouldn't open up for him. He couldn't get anywhere with the template saved inside an email. Now he wants me to go with snail mail. I need to become familiar with snail mail I guess. I did try one last time simply typing the permissions form inside an email word by word. He may prefer snail mail. This is a lot for me to learn. I'll have to read up on that if that is the case. Can I just get this straight in my head? Androzaniamy was blocked (harshly in my opinion - a point I and others expressed on her page) and comes off her block and leaves a {{whale}} on the blocking admin's page. An admin who specifically has a button to "trout" him on his page. She specifically states that she is "Making light of a bleak situation" and that she doesn't intend offence.

I've seen a hell of a lot worse from blocked users. I'm sure you have too. Blocking is a snub and when on the receiving end it's very difficult to accept. So when you used rollback on her edit in a space other than your own - you were effectively calling it vandalism - an intentional act of harming the encyclopedia (or am I missing something?) Combine that with coming to my page and labelling her as a problematic user and I'm astounded that you would assume bad faith so completely.

Now, I've got a lot of respect for you and I'm hoping this was just a blip at the end of your patience at the end of a long day. I've worked with editors like her before, and whilst many do end up being blocked, others go on to edit productively (until they burn out and disappear), so can I ask that you try to be a little more accepting in future? Let's start with the block, since you brought it up. Of the users to comment on her talk page after the block, I determine that five users agreed with, or at least did not contest, the block (discounting the blocking admin, the admin who declined her unblock request, and me). Three users openly disagreed with the block, including you and Dream Focus, who has ulterior motives for defending the user. Because of the block, Androzaniamy has now (hopefully) learned not refactor comments and the block has done its job. If not for it, Androzaniamy, despite the multiple warnings and ANI discussions regarding this behavior, would have continued to do so. (It is interesting to note that if your above message were on her talk page before the block, your use of "hell" would undoubtedly be censored.)

Do you find it appropriate to "whale" an admin who blocked you? I understand the "whale" and "trout" templates are intended for silly usage, but I find that to be one of the dumbest things one can possibly do right off a block, which is essentially antagonism. This is the second time Androzanaimy has "trouted" a user, with the first coming after that user boldly removed the {{adopting}} template from her userpage. I, too, have seen worse from users whose blocks have expired. However, this is exactly the kind of behavior (and lack of common sense) that led me to open two ANI discussions about this user.

This "whaling" is similar to another incident in this user's editing history. Last month, Androzaniamy left this barnstar on Calabe1992's talk page. For background, Androzaniamy has argued with Calabe1992 regarding policy in the past. The barnstar was clearly given in bad faith, as evidenced by the "(NOT!)" at the conclusion of the message. When confronted about why Androzaniamy did so, she claimed she had no idea what Calabe1992 was talking about, and that it was a genuine barnstar. This "whale," although including the "Making light of a bleak situation" heading, was, IMO, not intended to be given as such. Right, well, the block had a few issues with it. It was excessive at 2 days for a first block. She removed a word she was offended by on her own talk, as best she could. She would have done better to ask Pam to refactor or to remove the entire comment or even just not make a mess, but it's not like this was a big deal - she wasn't changing the meaning of the comment or hiding what she did (she signed the mess she left). I do however agree with you that hopefully she'll have learnt her lesson, as she shouldn't be refactoring comments with the judgement she's shown so far.

I most certainly don't find it appropriate to whale an admin who blocked me. I've never left a whale, trout or minnow, because I think it's disrespectful and as you say "silly". However, as admins, we're expected to have "thick skin" and I read the whale as "I don't think this block was fair and I'd like to express that in a light hearted way". It wasn't insulting, T. Canens accepts trouts, so again, mountain out of a molehill here.

The barnstar I am concerned about, that is clearly bad faith and not very impressive at all. I'll give her a little while longer for the block dust to settle and might poke her again about the adoption, see if I can explain why that's just not on. Having said that, if you've opened two ANIs about a single user, neither of which actually ended in sanctions, could you perhaps consider that you've reached a point that you cannot be fully objective about her, and it might be best if you focussed your attentions elsewhere? I had hoped that the multiple warnings and ANI discussions would have been enough to deter her from further refactoring comments, but it evidently wasn't enough. The block was effective. I really opened one ANI discussion, as the first one generated little response from other users. As for staying out of Androzaniamy's editing, there are several editors who have tried to get through to her on her talk page and who are completely frustrated by her behavior, so I'm not going to further pile on there. I have been considering requesting for admin, but I have to admit I need more experience and I was wondering is there training I can participate in? If not, What can I do raise my experience? The best advice I can give you right now is to keep editing. Don't worry about adminship right now, just focus on improving the encyclopedia and learning policies along the way. While I accept that you may be acting to protect users from 'spam' by new users, please remember that many wikipedia editors are capable of reverting messages from new users themselves, should they so wish, and that since the messages appear harmless, maybe some editors may be happy to have them on their page.
