Jus soli

Hello. From some of your latest removals of citizenship information in infoboxes, it seems you are assuming Jus soli is an unrestricted right everywhere in the world, as it is the case in very rare countries such as the United States: it is not thus. In particular everywhere in Europe (for instance in France of United Kingdom), there is no such unrestricted right.--Sapphorain (talk) 20:20, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, Sapphorain. Whether jus soli, jus sanguinis or something else, country of birth and nationality typically coincide. If this were not the case, I would not remove "nationality" from the infobox. The policy is MOS:INFONAT, "Most biography infoboxes have nationality and citizenship. Generally, use of either should be avoided when the country to which the subject belongs can be inferred from the country of birth, as specified with |birthplace=." Edwardx (talk) 21:00, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. It specifies that "use of either (nationality or citizenship) should be avoided when the country to which the subject belongs can be inferred from the country of birth". But, except for a very few countries in the world (which the readers of Wikipedia don't necessarily know), this inference cannot be made without other very specific information depending on each particular country. So in most cases the removal of a very small but possibly useful citizenship information seems counterproductive to me. Of course there is no need to specify that a politician born in some country is a citizen of this country, but in almost all other cases no obvious conclusion can be made. --Sapphorain (talk) 21:44, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Only when country of birth and nationality are NOT the same, should we use the nationality field. For example, Emma Watson and Keanu Reeves. We also need to bear in mind MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, "When considering any aspect of infobox design, keep in mind the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article (an article should remain complete with its summary infobox ignored, with exceptions noted below). The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance." All biographies should and (almost all do) state nationality in the opening sentence. Edwardx (talk) 22:15, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Wiki Article: Charles Lu

Hi Edwardx! Thank you for reviewing the article that I have submitted not too long. I noticed the notability tag keep on being added to the page on Charles Lu. I have edited this article several times to keep it informative and based it on questions that were being asked of the public figure on Google itself. I have based the structure of this article after another Canadian designer, Sid Neigum, to make sure it was in line with the standards of acceptability of Wikipedia. If you check, you will see it is very similar and the credibility and notability of sources are the same. All the sources are credible and of reliable sources ranging from print to the same nature articles used for the the other fashion designers of Next in Fashion. Each line of writing corresponds directly to a fact checked within the article itself. Here are the other designer from this show (these are veteran designers) who are also notable fashion designers in their own perspective fields outside of reality television. From the show Ashton Michael and Minju Kim. This article I have been writing is also being updated too as the designer recently had a fashion show which was covered by sources like Fashion (magazine) Canada. He is a prominent Canadian Fashion designer and figure in his field outside of reality television.

For me, it is not a conflict of interest as I am following the guidelines set before me. Please let me know what else can be done as I am unsure as to why this notability tag keeps being added to the article. Thank you! Mrblackandwhitepanda (talk) 09:25, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, Mrblackandwhitepanda. Since you started editing in November 2021, all of your contributions have been in relation to Charles Lu. Have you read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest? If that looks overwhelming, try Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. Edwardx (talk) 09:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi Edwardx, I am allowed to write an article if I choose to as it relates to an article that is of interest. I see no issue. This issue is about notability. this article falls in line with other guidelines. This is also my first article, so I am testing the waters of response with other Editors, like yourself. Mrblackandwhitepanda (talk) 09:54, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Mrblackandwhitepanda. No one is suggesting that you are not allowed to write any article you might wish. As you are avoiding responding to my COI concerns, one might reasonably infer that you do indeed have an undeclared conflict of interest with regard to Charles Lu. Edwardx (talk) 10:44, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi Edwardx, thanks for your reply. I do not have any relation nor conflict of interest to Charles Lu. I am writing this article based in prior researched articles of other Canadian designers and saw a space for this based of searches. I am trying to get into the wiki space to write more about other designers and contribute however I am still new to this and have been nursing this singular article before attempting to improve or write new ones. I am not regularly on here so I only get notified about the one article I have worked on and submitted so it looks that way. It’s not a hobby but something I have interest in. For notability, all the article I have sourced go beyond just mention and are dedicated articles. Each fact has been checked. I hope this makes sense on your end. Thanks 2001:1970:5016:D100:6412:D6C0:5B81:5213 (talk) 10:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Vikram Gandhi

Hi @Edwardx, the Vikram Gandhi I created are not the same as the Vikram Gandhi whose page has since then been deleted. I looked at the Afd history on Vikram Gandhi and they only share the same name. This Vikram Gandhi is a director and journalist. The Virkam Gandhi whose page was deleted is an investor.  : Thank you, CatchedY (talk) 23:08, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

On closer inspection CatchedY you are quite right. Sorry about that. I know how to withdraw an AfD nom, but not sure how to proceed with a speedy. However, any admin who looks at this will have access to the previous version and should realise they are different people, and that this "new" one is notable enough to survive an AfD. Edwardx (talk) 23:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! Sorry for the confusion. I should have specified this when I created the article in the first place. CatchedY (talk) 23:16, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
No problem. I should have studied the new one more carefully. Alas, there is a lot of promotional rubbish coming out of India, so that can cloud one's judgment. Edwardx (talk) 23:26, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

OVERLINKING

Hi, thanks for your work; please do not link ordinary words (nor dates, years, well-known country-names). Tony (talk) 00:50, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

  • Tony1, I think you meant to leave this message for Bonergropy. If you look at the diff, the summary for my earlier edit was "Unlinking common words and/or phrases (and repeated linking of uncommon ones) - see WP:OVERLINK". Your message did amuse me, overlinking being one of my pet peeves. With so much to fix and never enough time, such misattributions are bound to happen. Edwardx (talk) 11:42, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
    • Thanks, Edward. Are you using OhConfucius's script? It's pretty good. Tony (talk) 22:37, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Unexplained deletion of sources for Dietrich Mateschitz

A couple of short lived accounts kept removing citation for the article subjects Croatian heritage and instead putting in a single Slovenian source claiming Slovene ancestry. I see you tried to restore the multiple sources stating the Croatian ancestry but again it was vandalized. OyMosby (talk) 01:03, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

A Redlink for you!

Not sure if it's your kind of thing...but I just added a viable redlink to Lynn Breeze. Cielquiparle (talk) 05:32, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, Cielquiparle. As you might have noticed, I have been doing illustrators of late. Mostly new articles, plus an AfD or two (Lynn Breeze). New ones so far are Robert Micklewright, Gilbert Bundy, Cleonike Damianakes and Heather Standring. Plus a few more on authors and a NYC hotel where Bunday died. Mostly thanks to a copy of Martin Salisbury's The Illustrated Dust Jacket 1920-1970 from my local library. I already have at least six more bios lined up to create! I see that Alan Cracknell died this year. There are obits in the Hampshire Chronicle and takraw-association.org, and there is something of his in the V&A collection, so it ought to be just about possible to scrape together a page. We shall see... Edwardx (talk) 09:54, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
I'm liking Damianakes! (Bundy advert omg.) Just ~600 characters more for Damianakes within the next 2 days and we could DYK (or is it more Featured Pictures material)...? Another idea: Would you be willing to contact Lynn Breeze for a Commons- or WP-safe illustration (baby or not)? In any case, I could try to find ~240 characters more to say about her within the next few days. #TipsyBaby Cielquiparle (talk) 10:31, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Cielquiparle. Damianakes is definitely DYK material. Salisbury's book says that Hemingway did not like her cover art, "large misplaced breasts etc", so will add that as it could be a good hook. Have to finish Robert Micklewright as the deadline for that one is today; long enough but struggling for a decent hook. Today is the deadline too for Gilbert Bundy. Have to add the story of the wartime trauma that led to his eventual suicide. As for Lynn Breeze, not sure if I can find the time to contact her! Edwardx (talk) 12:07, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
I think Damianakes needs a Gallery, since there are at least 3 more noteworthy book covers for inclusion on that page? (Not my strong suit, galleries.) Have run across more mentions of her as Cleo Wilkins...think we have only scratched the surface in terms of sources. Cielquiparle (talk) 14:36, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you again, Cielquiparle. Today is the DYK closing day. It would benefit from more images, but some of them might be non-free. Edwardx (talk) 12:23, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Oh. Yes. So close to the cusp... I looked for a headshot of her in the NYPL Digital Collections but all you get are stage sets designed by the other Cleon (Throckmorton). It's possible that one of the California photo libraries have something...but then again maybe not. Cielquiparle (talk) 12:58, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Think I am done for the day... Cielquiparle (talk) 21:05, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you kindly for all your hard work. The article has been nominated for DYK by the deadline, so any further expansion can continue at a much more leisurely pace. Edwardx (talk) 21:11, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for submitting. If it turns out the world isn't ready for that hook... I blame you. Cielquiparle (talk) 21:18, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Marc Lasry

Hi. I can see that some of my edit suggestions were reverted on Marc's page. It would be good to discuss one of those changes with you please: The Weinstein Company board. The original wording in the Philanthropy section is misleading as it suggests Marc was involved in sexual assault. We request our revised version is reinstated please, even if this is moved to the Philanthropy section.

Some of the other changes made continue just to clean up the page, without changing the meaning. This included ensuring Marc's sister is clearly referenced for gender parity and some minor grammatical issues.

Thanks. MichaelPWhite (talk) 09:11, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi. We're still seeking to make factual updates to Marc's page to fix various issues. For example, in Marc's description it describes him being "born to a family of Jews" which we consider antisemitic and not relevant to his profile. We're only trying to factually update the page in light of no proactive support from the wider Wikipedia community. It would be great to engage with you on this please.
