Photo captions

Thank you for the images you have been adding to various articles. In general, there is no need to add the name of a non-notable photographer to the caption of a photo, per WP:CAP. Thanks!

@Magnoila677 which photog are you refering to? I have drafts of a couple that are quite notable and need to be moved to mainspace. FloridaArmy (talk) 18:36, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
You've added "L.R. Burleigh" to several photo captions. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:50, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
See Draft:L.R. Burleigh. He seems quite notable and is covered substantially in reliable independent sources. Certainly the draft entry can be expanded but I see no reason we shouldn't have an entry on him. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:53, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
Great. When the article is live you may wish to add him back to the captions. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:57, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
It can be live as soon as someone moves it to mainspace. I am prohibited from doing so. FloridaArmy (talk) 14:00, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
I personally would not move that article to mainspace in its current form, per WP:GALLERY. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:14, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

<outdent> I'm happy to remove the gallery once it's in mainspace. I'm working through his works from Commons and it's useful to have an organized list because there are many duplicates and different versions. I do think the list is useful for anyone reading his article to see which locations he rendered and to easily access the relevant image, but if there's a policy prohibiting that layout I am more than willing to abide. From the page you linked: "residences and commercial developments may be notable as a result of their historic, social, economic, or architectural importance, but they require significant coverage by reliable, third-party sources to establish notability." This source discusses it in quite a bit of detail. And the school district website linked also has a detailed account of the former school and its history, pedaogy, design features, demolition etc. Of course there are other sources and I'll see if I can add some more but I beleive notability is well established. While the district website might count as local the detail it goes into and the way it discusses building make clear it was notable and significant. You note it's described in the town's article but no redirect exists. Is the article on the town where people should expect to look for information on a historic building? FloridaArmy (talk) 20:55, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
@User:AngusWOOF here's everything that the article about the town says about the building: "The J. W. Chorley Elementary School, designed by American architect Paul Rudolph, was built in the 1960s and demolished in 2013.[11]" FloridaArmy (talk) 20:57, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

John Milton of Florida

I hardly think it is 'conjecture' to mention that he dreaded working with the Republicans.

In his final message to the state legislature, he said that Yankees have developed a character so odious that death would be preferable to reunion with them. Valetude (talk) 23:20, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

As I recall the bit I removed as conjecture was attached to his suicide. He left no note. Some have suggested he was cleaning his gun. Others have suggested an unwillingness to reconcile as you've stated. We just don't know. I looked into it was best I could and while there are rumors and such no one knows. I believe his statement that you not above remains in the article. As far as "Yankee aggression" I stumbled on Sweetwater Creek State Park and there's some interesting history there. Could use expansion. I had never really heard aboit those sort of events. Burning of cities and such yes but women and children taken prisoner and sent by train to be refugees in another state? Whoa. Is there more to the story? And what were they making at the mill? Confederate uniforms? I didn't see it stated. Take care. FloridaArmy (talk) 01:29, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Feel free to expand and tidy up the article in draftspace, but I'm not going going to move to main until after the election. I recently had my own bad experience with a political candidate being deleted. She is running for US Congress and has a virtual guarantee of winning, but the deletionists want to purge any candidates who aren't extremely well-known. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 13:26, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Okay. The sourcing is weak, so I understand. I think IAR and common sense should apply, but the election is soon enough. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:30, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
I though state office holders were deemed inherently notable so I was surpised when Draft:James Gettis was turned down. Is being a State Rep not enough? He was also a Florida Supreme Court justice (when the position rotated) and I thought the coverage and sourcing was pretty solid, but obviously someone else disagreed. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:42, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
I think he is notable, however the reason it got turned down was because it was short and had only 2 sources. Add a few more sources and a bit more content and it is good to go. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 13:44, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Rice Building, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Oakdale, New York into Dowling College. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:03, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. Where did I mess up? FloridaArmy (talk) 18:11, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
I see you made a correction to cited content that I did not add. Here's the article before I touched it. The interurban part is already there. The only thing I think touched in those bits was to take out "city cars" since it seemed to me to be redundant to say that a service that also included interburban services included city services. I hope that makes sense. I haven't looked at the source to see if you are correct or not, but you're objecting to something I didn't have anything to do with. Take care. FloridaArmy (talk) 18:54, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Sure enough the source says "..an arm of the national Stone & Webster utility cartel, which also developed interurban railways between Seattle, Tacoma, and Everett." So as I read it, the content was correct before you changed it.

Speedy deletion nomination of Josephinum (disambiguation)

Hello FloridaArmy,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Josephinum (disambiguation) for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

User:Robert McClenon, thank you for reviewing some of my submission. The entry on Armbruster includes reviews of his books from the Oregonian, Seattle Times, Columbia journal, and several other periodicals. I'm not sure what the issue is honestly. If an author and their work have received substantial coverage in reliable independent sources doesn't that establish notability? He's also noted as an expert on Seattle's railroad history and music history in a couple of other Seattle Times article but I've seen too many so can't access without a subscription at the moment. I also think authors who oublish woth established University presses are assumed to be quite notable. I saw he also gives presentations and has served on panels. FloridaArmy (talk) 19:30, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
User:FloridaArmy - I meant to explain on the draft talk page or in an AFC comment, where it would be seen by all future reviewers of the draft, not to explain it to me on your talk page. User:Legacypac and User:Editorofthewiki I don't understand the logic of excluding this subject. Not only does it have an entire entry on it in the New Georgia Encyclopedia but the group is involved in statewide legislative efforts, has been covered in relation to the creation of several major conservation areas, has had the trips it leads covered, and has been around from 50 some odd years. Maybe y'all can help? FloridaArmy (talk) 04:21, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
I agree and I've accepted it. Please post this info on the talkpage. BTW why do you use AfC? Was that mandated? You do really good work. Legacypac (talk) 04:41, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes, mandated. I was told I created too many articles. I didn't create the Georgia Conservancy draft, I found it languishing in draftspace. Thanks very much for your help. FloridaArmy (talk) 04:43, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
While I think you have moved past creating poorly sourced stubs. Headed to earning autoconfirmed status. There are 60,000 pages in Draft to sort through. I love finding good ones among the junk. Legacypac (talk) 04:46, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
