Prater & Hayes

Hi, I just created the an article for two blues artists Prater & Hayes. I'm new to looking at the blues, but I noticed you have been involved with the Blues article for some time. Do you know if there is a further way to classify these musicians, a subgenre of the Blues?Jacqke (talk) 11:22, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

The article looks good to me - thanks! Have you thought of making use of the Allmusic articles here and here? I could also add some details of birthplaces and dates. A favour, or two

Could you cast your editorial eye over my recent edit(s) on dear old Lonnie Donegan. I have added a sortable wikitable (of sorts) for his singles output, which may need a tweak or two.

Secondly, completely unrelated as such, might you have a look in your trusty Billboard R&B book for the multiple hits emanating from Nolan Strong & the Diablos. My guess is that there just one (maybe two), whereas the article tends to towards a Beatle-esque following. The fancrust based adulation seems to extend to Fortune Records and "The Wind" (from which I've trimmed more than a slight breeze) etc. Did the Velvet Angels achieve anything of vague note ?

All when you have "A Little Time", as we seldom opine in the UK City of Culture. Cheers,

As you may (or may not) have noticed, I've reduced my involvement a lot over recent weeks, but I'll get back into the swing of things at some point. I'll take a good look at Lonnie's article in due course (the first record I can remember buying with pocket money was his version of "Tom Dooley"). Regarding Nolan Strong and the Diablos..... they had one record that spent one week on the Billboard R&B chart, and that was "The Way You Dog Me Around", reaching #12 in January 1956. They were certainly locally popular, and perhaps influential more widely... but that's as far as it goes. If you want to start trimming, I may be able to dig out some other sources offline. Yes I noticed your fall in output, but thought it prudent not to pry. I have edited the diabolical Diablos article further. I too am haphazard in editing at the moment and probably will not get back to regular motion, as it were, until October. As I said in my post - only when you have the time and inclination. Grade I listed buildings in Monmouthshire

Morning Ghmyrtle, can I tap into your local knowledge again? I've been bashing my head against a brick wall trying to reconcile the number of Grade I buildings we have on the Wikipedia page, (53) and the number British Listed Buildings Online give, (54). I think the answer is that the Road Bridge over River Wye, here [1] and Chepstow Bridge, Tidenham, here[2], are in fact the two ends of the same bridge. Is this right? I can understand why bridges get listed twice (both ends), particularly if the ends are in different countries, but it can be confusing! All the best. KJP1 (talk) 09:54, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Yes - one end of the bridge is in Gloucestershire and the other end in Monmouthshire, so it should not be counted twice - but perhaps a footnote is needed. I've no objection to an infobox - the page was originally at Bigsweir rather than Bigsweir Bridge, which is why one was not included originally. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:12, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

The Will-O-Bees/Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil

I know very little of the Will-O-Bees aside from this German Wikipedia entry, which you will have seen:

I came across their version of "Shades of Gray" only recently.

"Shades of Gray" is overwhelming associated with the Monkees and, for an album track, charted substantially in the States [there were no US singles released from the LP HEADQUARTERS]:

Unfortunately, I do not have much to add. This source mentions the group performed the theme song for The Ugliest Girl in Town. Fuzz, Acid & Flowers briefly states the same information you have already gathered. You just corrected

a nasty error of mine at Jonathan Richman and now I see that you are interested in R&B so I wonder if you will take a look at something for me. In the Rockin' Robin (song) article it lists the Bobby Day version as being Bubblegum music based on some misguided review of Michael Jackson's version. Since Bubblegum as a genre did not happen until 10 years after Day's recording this is ludicrous, only, there it is, with a source. I've left a note at the talk page, which has been ignored, I left a note at the wikipeida songs project that has gone unanswered but i feel that if I have one qualified editor behind me, or in front of me, I'll take this on. The word "sovereign"

The word "sovereign" has French origins. "Sovereignty" is really just an ideal. No countries that are occupied by foreign powers could be considered sovereign, by any means. I am the state (talk) 17:02, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

Frank "Little Sonny" Scott Jr.

Having had a dig around, I'm afraid Frank "Little Sonny" Scott Jr. is not notable. Given that he died in May 2017, and the only notice of this I can find is on Facebook, then I think we can safely assume he avoids Wiki notability status. Rather like me, except that I'm still alive.

I know you are an infrequent visitor here these days, but I am away too, pretty much permanently, until October. Kindest regards to you - I hope you are well.

Bands and notability

As you know more about band artciles & Wikipedia:Notability (music) than anyone else I know can I ask for some advice? I've been doing some work on Bristol & Somerset cleanup lists and came across New Rhodes, List of record labels from Bristol, The Ratbites from Hell & List of bands from Bristol which all have tags for cleanup - mostly citations or notability. Sea Cruise

My wife and I have just returned home after a weekend away on this Blues Cruise. A really well organised and enjoyable time it was too. The pick of the bunch of the performers for me - if you ignore the old legend Norman Beaker that is - was an Italian couple billed as The Red Wine Serenaders. Amongst others they regaled us with a heady mixture of tunes first recorded by The Harlem Hamfats, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Woody Guthrie etc. They sang a version of "Root hog, or die" and, blow me down, "Mother Fuyer". So they had me hooked ! The bloke played real old finger pickin' country blues and she sang, plus played the washboard and kazoo. I've never heard quite anything like it in the flesh.

Kyla Brox also sang along the way, mainly backed by Beaker's entourage. I know you are not around much on Wiki these days, but I thought you might be interested in my little tale. Cheers,

Carl Sargeant: Cause of death (suicide) should NOT be written as if it had already been established (contempt of court)

In England and Wales, whether a person has died (in a suspicious, unnatural or unexplained death) from suicide or not, is usually only formally and properly established, concluded or determined by someone called a coroner, in something called a Coroner's Inquest ... until the Inquest on the matter of the death of the late Carl Sargeant AM has been concluded, I would suggest that reports of suicide from even from such eminent and respectable journals as the Mirror, the Guardian, the Socialist Worker and the Morning Star should not be misused here in order to "jump the gun" before the coroner (and his jury, if there is to be one) has actually have the chance of finishing doing his (or their) job under the Coroners Act 1988 (1998 c. 13) [3] and the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (2009 c. 25) [4]. "From an unconfirmed suspected suicide", not "from suicide". (Under the Contempt of Court Act 1981 (1981 c. 49) [5], which also covers the work of coroners and Coroners' Courts, the maximum penalty according to Section 14(1)(2) [6] is a fine not exceeding £2,500 or 2 years' imprisonment, or both. Intro consistency

FWIW, I disagree with linking England, Scotland & Wales intros to country. Linking them to Countries of the United Kingdom suffices. Indeed the reference to Bigbury (in Devon) seems to suggest that it is indeed a different person. Thanks, I quite agree that that the source has all the appearance of being well-informed. It seems to have been Nukualofa who re-added her, earlier today. He/she is a very regular contributor and not at all given to vandalism. So it seems to have been an error in good faith, and I'll let sleeping dogs lie unless it gets readded again.
