Hi GiantSnowman. Can you please come to this discussion and clarify if the guideline for the full list of football players with dual nationality also applies for lists for individual countries. Your statement was cited there. Thanks in advance. --Leyo 20:07, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Major changes?

Hi, I've just read your message. Sorry if I don't understand. About unpreferenced player. Can you explain it to me. Thank's Ario ManUtd 21:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)--Ario ManUtd (talk) 14:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, the link you added to the Folkestone Invicta page points to the wrong player. Also, I don't believe this Charlie Mitten is in fact notable - he never played a league match for Gillingham......... ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

His one and only appearance for the Gills was in a Football League Trophy match, he never played in the league..... ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:48, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Amaechi Igwe, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Transwiki to a more inclusive site

Hi Giant Snowman, I see that you've been very active in Wikipedia, especially the football section. As some of your articles are currently under review for deletion on the grounds of non-notability, I wanted to suggest that you consider transferring them to Wikipopuli, a wiki that I set up to host biographical articles without a notability requirement. Indeed, given your level of experience in the wiki world, I'd be grateful for any feedback you care to give on the site. Thanks TheYellowCabin (talk) 15:45, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

SC Cham

Please also read the official transfer list in http://www.football.ch Matthew_hk tc 12:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

OK thanks very much, I've updated the squad and the squad template according to football.ch. GiantSnowman (talk) 13:09, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Sometime football.ch also outdated, and the uncertain transfer (those marked ? in out section) may disappeared. P.S. replay in your talk page for coherent. Matthew_hk tc 13:12, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Football articles

Hi - I see that you have been adding a lot of new articles recently. Could you possibly add them into the list of new articles? Then other users could be aware of your input and review/edit the articles. I will have a go at Harry Daft shortly. Cheers and happy editing. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Bradford City

I totally agree about beefing up the Bradford City page. I've copy and pasted the history section to a user page at User:Peanut4/History in preparation for writing that History of Bradford City A.F.C. as you say. Once I've at least given that a decent start then we can sort the History section on the main page. Feel free to fire away at anything. Peanut4 (talk) 17:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

I've not really started it yet, but might get onto later now you've given me that extra little impetus. But if you find anything to add, please feel more than free to chip in. I'll try get it down swiftly, even if not complete, and transposed to the relevant page. Peanut4 (talk) 18:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi again. I've finally completed History of Bradford City A.F.C. and uploaded it from my userpage. Have a gander and add anything you think needs going in. I'd love to add some new photos in there. I'm going to have to try get my camera out - particularly some new ones of Valley Parade! I've also straightaway nominated it for GA status.
I reckon the history section on the main page needs re-writing and giving full refs. I reckon someone other than myself is best to write it because otherwise it will just be an abridged version of the History page and in the same writing style. Peanut4 (talk) 14:11, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Just an update; History of Bradford City A.F.C. is now a featured article, to go with Valley Parade and the featured list Bradford City A.F.C. seasons. Peanut4 (talk) 13:27, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Axel Orrström

Hi GiantSnowman. Regarding the article on Axel Orrström, do you have any evidence that he's played in a fully pro league? The article was deleted a little while ago after I prodded it. Obviously his appearances for Dumbarton don't count (as they play in a mostly semi-pro league), but I'm not sure about Atlantis, so I thought I'd check with you before prodding again. Jack Reynolds

Reynolds did not play for the Republic of Ireland national football team. He did however play for Ireland national football team (1882-1950) which later became Northern Ireland national football team. Djln--Djln (talk) 22:53, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

  • You are welcome. Irish football history can be confusing Djln
  • I just thought that linking these relevant categories would be far more practical then listing all the players in them. Djln--Djln (talk) 23:17, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Ok, if you want to keep the references but I think keeping the categories linked would be appropriate as they are relevant to the subject. I would recommend you select more notable players then the ones previously listed. Djln--Djln (talk) 23:33, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
    • If you check articles listed in listed in those categories and Dual Irish international footballers, many have references attached with ref to their dual nationality. Billy Walsh (Irish footballer) who represented four different national teams is one that springs to mind. Alan Kernaghan is another. I am not criticising your efforts. The article is sound, but parts of it could do with inproving. Would you object if I linked the categories but also kept the refs Djln--Djln (talk) 23:45, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Released players

I wouldn't remove the players quite yet. I'd wait until after the weekend. We still have one more game on Saturday, and I presume some of those released players will play, because otherwise we won't have enough players. They are still strictly contracted until June. Peanut4 (talk) 18:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

No worries. You may be right that they're already released but those who have been kept still haven't actually signed on. I'm not sure we have enough players left and available not to use some of them though. We shall see, eh? Peanut4 (talk) 21:05, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

New away kit

Hi. I seem to remember you're pretty clued up about how to do the kits. Feel free to get cracking away with it straightaway. We might even use it this weekend, but it will be certainly relevant to be updated after the weekend again. Peanut4 (talk) 18:10, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Looks great. Only other suggestion would be to try put some of the claret & amber flashes down the side but I think the kits are only supposed to be a simplified version to represent the kit, so don't think it's essential, nor do I have a clue how to do it. Peanut4 (talk) 18:45, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Daniel Alves brother

  • Alexandre Alves da Silva started his career at Sao Paulo and possibly born in Paraná
  • Alexandro Alves do Nascimento born in Bahia state,(same as Daniel and at nearby ,unicipality) started his career at Bahia and then Sao Paulo, but differ surname (Alves-Silva vs Alves-Nascimento)
  • Daniel Alves started his career at Bahia

But neither one have a good reliable source to support. Possibly cousin? Matthew_hk tc 13:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Both Daniel Alves and Alexandre Alves da Silva have the same name (Alves-Silva), so they are probably brothers (I know for a fact that Daniel Alves DOES have a brother) and Alexandro Alves do Nascimento COULD be a cousin, but I'm not 100% positive. Regards, GiantSnowman 13:16, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
But the fact is, Alves-Sliva is a common surname. Does Daniel have a notable footballer, everything need source. Matthew_hk tc 13:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

There are five Alexandre Alves da Silva born 1985, 1986, 1978 1981 and 1980. Matthew_hk tc 13:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Very true, everything does need sourcing, so in that case remove ANY speculation about family members from all articles concerned. Regards, GiantSnowman 13:24, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Jem Bayliss - date of birth

Hi, I was just wondering what source you used to obtain Jem Bayliss' date of birth? It says 1 August 1863, but I have two Tony Matthews books that say he was born on 14 January 1863. Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 15:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm guessing it was Englandstats.com. I'll see what other sources are out there and maybe add a footnote about this. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 16:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. Our messages crossed there I think! --Jameboy (talk) 16:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Jonathan McLaughlin

Now then. Just to let you know that if we play Jonathan McLaughlin then an article already exists, but has been deleted, for him. So rather than create it, I'd suggest we ask for him to be undeleted, because there will be some info about his days at Harrogate Railway and Harrogate Town in there. Obviously if some other City fan decides to create him, so be it, but he currently doesn't meet WP:N. Peanut4 (talk) 22:55, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

FM Dugout

I'm aware of the Dugout, but I don't visit it. I might have looked there a couple of times, can't really remember. I participated occasionally in a ChampMan newsgroup a few years ago. Not so keen on FM2008: my time-waster of choice these days is Pro Cycling Manager. Kevin McE (talk) 08:57, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

John Reames

I was going to email you about the John Reames issue, but you don't have "e-mail this user" set up. I have a couple of ideas which might or might not work depending upon the wishes of the relative. One is that a OTRS request might handle it, though I am not 100% sure whether it fits into OTRS scope. Anyhow, mail me for details. Oldelpaso (talk) 17:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I've just been reading up on a few of the relevant policies, and I think a clear explanation on the talk page would suffice with no further action required. Wikipedia:Contact us/Article problem/Factual error (from subject) seems to advise this, and the autobiography guideline states: Similarly, you should feel free to correct mistaken or out-of-date facts about yourself, such as marital status, current employer, place of birth, and so on. (Note it on the talk page.) In this case his date of birth is unlikely to cause controversy, so it would be more pragmatic to just go ahead and change it. This could be coupled with an OTRS request if the relative wishes, but seeing as it was Reames' funeral today it would be more tactful to avoid unnecessary hassle. Oldelpaso (talk) 19:13, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I was just preparing a talk page post, but it looks like you got there first. Your wording looks good to me, though I'd be tempted to tone down "adamant", as it has connotations of stubbornness. Oldelpaso (talk) 19:29, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Racism in association football

Hi GiantSnowman, thanks for the message.

I came up with a suggestion on the talk page there, unfortunately user Mordoor did not even bother himself to comment on my proposal or to produce his/her own one. The edit war is childlish, I admit, but I do not like that kind of attitude, when the problem has not been resolved on the talk and yet he has started to change the article on his own, deleting sourced information. Greetings. Tymek (talk) 12:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Tymek, you've been asked on talk page to present reliable sources for you statemements multiple times. But you've chosen to ignore these requests, and started a torrent of personal attacks and incivility instead. Unfortunarely this discussion does not belong to WP:FOOTBALL any more. It is rather in scope of WP:RS and WP:CIV now. Cheers. M0RD00R (talk) 14:19, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but these sources are reliable to me. And it is not my problem that you don't like them. With the attitude you are presenting (I do not like this phrase, so its source is not reliable), we will never build a balanced encyclopedia. Tymek (talk) 14:25, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Once again I ask you to quit making ad hominem remarks. WP:RS defines what is reliable source and what is not. Not yours or mine opinion. M0RD00R (talk) 14:29, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

redundant cats

Hi. Great job on creating articles on Canadian Soccer players. One thing, however. You include Category:Canadian soccer players and Category:Canadian men's international soccer players in some of the articles that you created. The latter is a subcategory of the former, making the former redundant. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:34, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh, ok. Let me see what that is all about. I'll get back to you. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 00:46, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
I contacted the editor that inserted that into the category, and this was his reply. The policy that s/he points to states that it could belong in two categories. If I were making the articles I wouldn't out them both in, it just doesn't make sense to me. So I guess I'll leave it up to you. If you want to insert both, then insert both, but if it makes sense to you not to, then don't. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:19, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

Category:Croatian-Australian_Socceroos has come up for deletion at CfD. As this category was created as a result of this AfD, which you participated in, I thought you might have an opinion on this debate as well. Steve Gardner

Are you sure Steve Gardner is the same Steve Gardner that played in England for Bradford City? According to the neilbrown site, Gardner played for Burnley, Bury and Glossop during the 1980s. Peanut4 (talk) 22:22, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Secondly the one who played for Gothenburg was a striker according to this link but the one who played for Bradford, Burnley, Bury, etc. was a defender. Peanut4 (talk) 22:24, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Football AfDs

I've been looking through several of the recent football AfDs. I'm probably more inclusive than you, but your contribution is seldom more than Delete per nom, which is an argument to be avoided as per WP:PERNOM. In some cases I can see this, but I've just come across a couple which very clearly are keeps - Richard Sukuta-Pasu and Akanni-Sunday Wasiu. It would appear that you haven't done much research before putting forth your comments, and I'm not sure this helps the project. Nfitz (talk) 18:32, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I know I believe in a lot more inclusivity than other editors here ... but I honesty thought those two articles were both obvious keeps given one has played a season in the fully-professional second tier Polish league ... and the other clearly meets WP:N with absolutely massive media coverage (an example from Bild] this week is [1]. (Bild being the "best-selling newspaper in Europe"). I know your helping the project - I didn't think there was any question of that. I just don't think simply saying "delete per nom." without any due diligence does. And I apologise if you do actually research these ... I'd just assumed they were both pretty obvious. Nfitz (talk) 17:02, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Should add Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Ohnesorge to the list too ... though it is a moving target - the events that unquestionably made him notable seem to have occured after you contributed ... and this is the problem with trying to AfD a lot of player articles at this time of year ... seems to make sense to wait until September to purge them ... Nfitz (talk) 17:18, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Skipton R.F.C.

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Skipton R.F.C., suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. List of players died while playing

I think you will find I did ATTEMPT to discuss it but no one replied that they were against the page move, therefore, i had the right to move it to a more appropriate page name because, like i said on the discussion page, hardly any of the players on the page ACTUALLY died whilst playing, for example, the two young italians, Antonio Puerta, Marc Vivian Foe, and Fehér. Help! Bicycle Kick article...

Well, I complied to all the good suggestions that you gave to me earlier today. Yet, User: Selecciones de la Vida has barged into the article and:

  • Accused me of POV.
  • States that I have made a "famous games section that infringes NPOV."
  • Deleted information regarding the "Famous Players" that made the bicycle kick.
  • States that I am breaking the "reasons for arbitration."

This is not the only time this user has attacked me in such a way. You know that I was not doing these things in order to push my POV. We discussed these changes, and also User: Beve approved of me somehow improving the article. You've seen that I shortened the "Peruvian claim" section as it was intended, and I've even admitted that the new sections needed more information from people that knew more about other important people and events revolving around the bicycle kick. In other words, you know that I have done nothing wrong or with bad intentions. Could you please help me out in this situation?--[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|] (talk) 19:21, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Also, here you can see how User: Selecciones de la Vida has made aggresive changes to my improvements in the article:

Hello, I would like to state that MarshalN20 knows that discussions are currently being done in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football. Consensus is necessary for any perceived improvements, especially when regarding the history of edits within the Bicycle kick article from various editors including both him and myself. I am not the only editor that isn't in favor of the lists he's including which is being expressed on WP:FOOTY. I would also like to include the ongoing discussion on Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts that has not yet been answered or resolved by an admin, cheers Selecciones de la Vida (talk) 21:14, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
I hope you see, GiantSnowman, how this user "Selecciones de la Vida" is constantly trying to get me in trouble and keeps on threatening me with the "Wikiquette alerts." As far as the "list" goes, the other people discussing the matter stated that "thousands" of people would appear on the list. Yet, thus far only 6 are actually confirmed, and the other 10 are unsourced. How does that account for "thousands?"--[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|] (talk) 13:03, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
It's not a threat but a fact, a user reported you for incivility. Selecciones de la Vida (talk) 17:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Who's attacking who? See, you continue with your aggressive accusations.--[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|] (talk) 19:18, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
No, you came here accusing me and I politely defended myself, while bringing up the discussions being done on WP:FOOTY (for consensus and arbitration) and clarifying that you are not as civil as you'd like to appear (Wikiquette alerts). Either way we need to leave differences aside, and acknowledge that in case of any future conflicts, we continue consulting the football project page. Selecciones de la Vida (talk) 05:47, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I came here looking for help from a Wikipedia editor who had been advicing me on the changes I could make on the bicycle kick article. "Politely defending yourself"? That's more of a joke than an actual fact. You brought up the discussion in the FOOTY article in order to try to make it seem as if I was going against some rule. In other words, you want to get me in trouble, not make things peaceful. Oh, and then you go on and insult me with "you are not as civil as you'd like to appear." Seriously, why do you constantly attack me?--[|!*//MarshalN20\\*!|] (talk) 11:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

McCoys

Thank you for bringing this "triplication" to the attention of the "foodies". The three articles will be merged into one. --Zlerman (talk) 18:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Churchill and other Oliseh brothers

Are you sure they are related? I know that Egutu, Azubuike and Sunday are bothers, but I've never read anything about Churchill. Cheers! BanRay 22:41, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the link! BanRay 14:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Al-Saqua

No worries. I saw that someone duplicated the existing article for no apparent reason so I wanted to change one of the two to a redirect. I thought Al-Saka was more commonly used (per ESPNsoccernet), but either is fine with me. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 19:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

"unknown" DOB

Hi! Please don't write "Unknown" in football infoboxes when the birthdate can be found. Leave the field blank instead. "Unknown" means that the birthdate really is not known, mainly in the case of people from ancient or medieval history. Thanks, Punkmorten (talk) 13:01, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Year of birth missing vs Date of birth missing

Hi. Please note that you have to use Category:Year of birth missing instead of Category:Date of birth missing in articles. The same for Date of death and Year of death. Read instructions carefully. Moroever, consider using Category:Year of birth missing (living people) for living individuals. Thanks. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:10, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

PS This is the second time I am writing this note to you.

I don't understand why the players with 0 appearances are included despite the lead saying that the list is for players who had made at least one league appearance. Help! – PeeJay 23:28, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Anton Powolny

Hi, having researched and written the article on Anton Powolny for German Wikipedia, I want to point out some errors in the English article. Powolny did not play for Ober St. Veit from 1921 to 1924, on the contrary he played there until 1921, when he transferred to Wiener Sport-Club. He became Austrian champion with them in 1922 and moved to WAF in early 1924. On his second stint with WSC he did not play there until 1931, but his contract with the club was terminated in early 1930. --Karloff lugosi (en) (talk) 14:56, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
