Response to invite

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO from PORTUGAL here,

Regarding your invitation, i have to say i am deeply moved (well, maybe not deeply :)), but sufficiently so, not used to getting that kind of feedback. A while ago, i was telling another user how i recently reported a disruptive editor (whom also operates SOLELY on football) to WP/ANI and got absolutely no response, sometimes i did get it was not the expected. Regarding that "contributor", who is tottally disrputive, you might want to check "a copy" of the report, which contains lots of stuff about this guy: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive504#PEP10_aka_PARARUBBAS_.28anonymous_disruptive_editing.29)

Man, i lost my train of thought...Feeling moved but, for the time being, i dont see any advantages in registering, feeling that my contributions are as much valuable that way. That does not mean i do not enjoy TEAMWORK because i do. Feel free to message me anytime you need LINKS, REFS or just overall improvements on "the beautiful game"'s articles and i will be most happy to oblige. Since i don't change IP to evade blocks or anything like that (still don't know how vandals manage that, speaking of which, that's the only thing at WIKIPEDIA that sets me off, vandals), i will be easily "traceable", so reach 4 me when you need help!!

For now, i say goodbye, wishing you and yours a pleasant 2009, appreciate you liked my edits, hope to keep making consistent contributions and wish you the same, hope my speech was not TOOO LONG (although i fear it was :))...From PORTUGAL, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 01:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry i forgot it the first time, take care,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 17:41, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Hi again mate. Regarding my rants about that guy which was (is) a disruptive editor, here's a tip (and i am doing this without knowing if you are an admin or just an editor like myself, it's just that this vandal operates SOLELY on FOOTBALL, and since you are a member of WP/FOOTY, you might want to keep track on it...

As follows: PEP10 aka PARARUBBAS has new account, now as PASD08 ("contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Pasd08) example here (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=F%C3%A1bio_Coentr%C3%A3o&diff=262329686&oldid=262233611). He keeps removing LINKS and REFERENCES.

Will immediately report this to WP/ANI, although i know what their reaction will be. My conscience tells me to do so.

Take care, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 21:53, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

List of Hamilton players

My main edits concern Clyde, but I have been editing all Scottish football articles in general over the past few months. I'd be happy to try and add to the page shortly. I take it it is just league appearances and goals that go in the stats columns? Ck12 (talk) 16:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Hamilton Accies

Similarly to what Sean said, my main concern is with Morton, but if I have time I'll stick in a few names.

Although, if you just work your way alphabetically through the list of Neil Brown that you've stuck in as a reference then you'll get it done much quicker!

Change of hearts

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

On second thoughts, i accept your invitation and am glad to join the project. Everytime i log in and edit under this account rather than anonymously (which sometimes may also occur), be sure to count on me for everything you and the STARTING XI (eleven being in this case many many thousands i hope) need.

Could you be so kind to tell me what needs to be done after i log in? What steps do i need to follow?

New signing

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

I just signed with the side and am ready for some hard, crunching, anything goes, football editing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Participants).

Problem is i am going to need help (an assist for an open teammate) regarding my user page, only thing i have available now is my talk, i believe. Will you help me with "the tactics"?

Many thanks in advance, a nice weekend,

GOAL!!!

Hey there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

many thanks for that marvellous assist, all i really need to do is "tap the ball in".

POV vs. INFO

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

Interesting topic i bring to you: I noticed you removed some info i inserted (anonymous account) in Antonio Karmona's article. I see it is not the first time someone reverts these actions, which can be, i often read it in summaries, interpreted as POV. Well, i can assure you that it is not, all my insertions are for the sake of the article and, ultimately, the site itself. In this case, i remember quite well that was how KARMONA "approached" his games (not a skilled player, but he gave everything he got).

I also left it written in the edit summary: If you, for instance say, Nicky Butt is a great tackler and defensive player, would that be POV? I admit fully that it would be if one said "Butt is the greatest tackler in the world, much better than Roy Keane and every1 else", i am clealy in a doubt. What is the pattern? Since i am fairly unaware as to what most of the guidelines at Wikipedia are, could you enlighten me? If you tell me that kind of insertions will ALWAYS be deemed as POV and are not acceptable, obviously i will stop inputting them, don't wish to be "booked" and/or "sent off".

By the way, tell me what you think of these two articles, one i started from scratch, with this account (Javier Calleja), the other was done "almost from the start", under the anonymous IP (Julio Alberto). Hoping to hear from you, have a nice week (oh, and sorry for having reverted your KARMONA's edits before sending you this message, it should have been the opposite),

VASCO AMARAL, PORTUGAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 17:53, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Year of birth missing vs Date of birth missing

Hi. Concerning this edit, please note that you have to use Category:Year of birth missing instead of Category:Date of birth missing in articles. The same for Date of death and Year of death. Read instructions carefully. Moroever, consider using Category:Year of birth missing (living people) for living individuals. Thanks. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:26, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

PS This is the third time I am writing this note to you.

Tips about (a) vandal(s)

Hi there SNOWMAN, hope all's fine by you,

i noticed you posted a report on WPFOOTY about an ongoing edit war (and man i do agree with you, it's as ridiculous as it gets). Upon discovering it, something familiar striked me and i inserted an update.

Then, upon browsing carefully, i found out there was a proper space to report edit wars, and did exactly so (see here, contains also the original WPFOOTY report http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Edit_warring#Disruptive_editor.2FEdit_warring). Both my original report and the consequent "relocation" to Edit Warring received, as i already feared, ZERO response. The first report i did to WPFOOTY, also about a vandal in the beautiful game, received NO reply.

I registered mainly to avoid being treated with such contempt, and find out that the patterns do not change, sometimes i feel I AM the vandal :(. Could you tell me your views on that? I really would appreciate an asnwer.

Kind regards, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 14:29, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism (made-up player)

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

I bring to you a guy who needs to be immediately sent off...Well, maybe we'll show a yellow card to the user, but his creation needs to receive marching orders as soon as possible!

Take a look at this invented player, Cristiano Sonko, in FC Porto (it does not appear in the team's article, but it did display in the SQUAD TEMPLATE until a while ago; i was able to find the template and revert it, still don't know how to remove the article). If you look closely, the made-up player's fullname, CRISTIANO SONKO DOS SANTOS AVERIO is a (vandalic!!) pun on Manchester United's CRISTIANO RONALDO DOS SANTOS AVEIRO (replacing RONALDO with SONKO and misspelling AVEIRO). I checked several sites and there is no SONKO playing either for PORTO or PAÇOS DE FERREIRA (youth or senior) as the storyline and infobox state, it's just NOT TRUE.

Also, for further proof this is idiotic vandalism, take a look at this article creator's talkpage (a fellow by the name ZANRAMON ELITE): (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Zanramon_elite). Please have a look at it man, and remove it (or ask someone to do so, i do not know how to proceed).

Cheers from Portugal, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 05:23, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Request

Hi there SNOWMAN, hope all's fine by you,

Just found out this now, thus my request: there is one article about Rabiola, and another on Tiago André Coelho Lopes, but both are the same person/player. Could you be so kind to do a "merge"? I don't know how. I would appreciate if that merge used the storyline from the latter, it's more complete.

Thanks in advance, kind regards,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 19:01, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Disruptive editor

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

I bring to you a highly disruptive editor, anonymous IP 92.4.253.48 ("contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/92.4.253.48). I checked, out of sheer hazard Bruno Alves' article and, there it was: POV/WEASEL, but the most important, this person inserts info that is not true, at all. For instance, it says there that he bought the club Varzim Sport Club alongside his brother and bought João Vieira Pinto (38 years old) out of retirement. By the way, if you check ALVES brother's article, Geraldo Alves, you will see that my anonymous IP removed a lot of info, which was full of the three things i duly acuse him of (POV/WEASEL/LIES), you will see it says ("said") in "PERSONAL LIFE" that he is married to actress Lúcia Moniz and they have two sons, one named BRUNO to honour his brother. What a load of rubbish!! I checked several sites on this singer/actress, and it is not true.

Also, and in another striking pattern of this person's obsession, he also inserted that former players João Pinto (already mentioned in this message, above) and Ricardo Sá Pinto (both retired) now play for Varzim (also mentioned above)...LIE!!! I mentioned pattern because the ALVES brothers were born in that city (Póvoa de Varzim) and began playing football at that club. He also operates with many, many IP, and also gave me a hard time with Arnaldo Edi Lopes da Silva and Juanfran (both AEK players, as GERALDO ALVES, more patterns).

I hope something can be done, cheers and keep up the good work,

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O'Brian White

How can you vote delete on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/O'Brian White after the same argument was lost on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sam Cronin for a less well known player, with less achievements? He might fail WP:ATHLETE (though even that's debatable, given he achieved the highest possible level in amateur football by winning the Hermann Trophy) - however he clearly meets WP:GNG. Nfitz (talk) 02:29, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Snowman. Sorry if this comes across as pedantic but — Just seeing from your votes at the AFD, may I suggest that you try to do a quick google search to establish notability before voting? This way, you'll have a more informed opinion as to whether the topic is suitable for Wikipedia or not. In this case, material that establishes White's notability was very easy to find. Cheers. (NEW)Football vandal

Hi there GIANT, VASCO here,

Being this a football "user" and you a member of "the force": Check out this new contributor, JESSEMON111 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jessemon111), he logged in today. Incredibly, while most vandals seem to almost exclusively edit anonymously, this idiot (don't fret, i know where i'm heading) went through the trouble of registering to write foul language, lies, the whole ordeal.

Here's an example (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Salvador_Ballesta&diff=prev&oldid=269917615), hope he can be put offside.

Felix Ettien

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here,

Regarding this Ivorian footballer's article, i have some inputs i want to discuss with you:

I guess we all want the best for this article and all at the site (not just the football items) but: the "struggle" continues, i insert info about player characteristics, it is removed as POV and, while removing so, the player position, in INTRO, disappeared. I reinstated the position, not the "POV".

Regarding the player's move to OFI Crete, i saw it in this Portuguese site (http://www.zerozerofootball.com/player/ettien/current/profile/0/default/8317/?search=1&search_string=ettien&menu=esc) and, since the player was also inserted at the club's wiki-article, i assumed it to be true, which may not be the case. Another issue solved, i will also not reinstate again. However, the last paragraph, about trials with COTTBUS and WISLA, is also not ref'd and was allowed to "stay".

In infobox, the NATIONALFOOTBALLTEAMS site i provided had comprehensive LEVANTE stats, i added those, hence the box changes (it's league only), i also de-linked the youth club i think you provided because it has no wiki-article, my apologies for that one. I saw you reverted again the LFP.es link with Spanish stats, it's not a big deal since the link is dead, i will also not reinstate that one man.

To wrap it up, why do refs come in a language other than English at en.wiki? I thought, honestly, that the language template indicating it was a "foreign" article sufficed; since you keep reverting, i assume you are right and will also stop adding English version, but would like to know the patterns applied here. Also, i honestly thought the country was IVORY COAST, why did it revert to the French "root"?

Keep up the good work, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 16:04, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Just noticed this now: There was a sentence about him having an 11-year stay at Levante which was doubled, i removed one entry. Far, far, more important, i checked the BBC ref, and there is nothing about teammate (and compatriot) KEITA flopping at Levante, but that also remained...

Cheers, VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 16:11, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Sorry man, forgot this is my original text,

About fullname: although the article name states FELIX DJA ETTIEN, i guess we can consider that his fullname, for sporting name, FELIX ETTIEN suffices perfectly, hence box changes. That's it, hope you can understand my views as i do yours.

Keep it up, VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 16:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Looks pretty good man, nice teamwork, sorry 4 any incovenience.

Regards, VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 17:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

LOL!

Hi there man, VASCO here,

In this article, given that i edited anonymously (i don't know if i already told you but, even tough i am registered, i still edit from time to time anon - have nothing to hide, and my IP is standard, in case of wrong doing i am easily traceable ;)), how did you know it was me? Was it the IP, my writings, or some kind of WIKI-psychics? :) :) Nice work...

Speaking of the subject: i still think the INTRO and the last club (with LOAN sign) should suffice for indicating alma mater club but, since i respect your work, have not (and will not) reverted it again, but want to express my views in editing.

Take care, have a nice weekend,

VASCO from PORTUGAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 15:45, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Sad, so sad...

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

Could you please take a look at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Infobox_vandal) and tell me what i did wrong? Wow, it's been a bad day for me, sent 5 or 6 messages, including a "piece vote" to the vandal, received one. The report was especially painful, since i see almost everybody "gets served" in the next half hour after posting and, to me, this is not the first time this has happened. Could it be i am a wikidiva and don't know it? :)

Always for the sake of WIKIPEDIA FC, have a nice week,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 20:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

  • No worries mate, that person has finally "emerged", responding to his first message ever, and i was the lucky one. He was very polite and compelling, showing the will to work as a team (although i still don't know how to explain the endless IP usage). Let's see...Other subject is the lack of feedback (about 90% of my reports) i keep getting from the various sources. Oh well, can't win 'em all!!

Cheers, keep safe, VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 00:40, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Canadian soccer players with multiple nationalities

True, but given that AfD isn't a vote, I usually consider "per nom" posts to be relatively weak arguments, as it could just be drive-by voting. I'll keep an eye on it and close it if another editor agrees to deletion before 5 days are up. Regards, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:36, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Not at all—I don't take it as criticism. I wish more users were willing to politely discuss matters rather than simply reverting... :)Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:44, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Anon football vandal

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, help, i'm offside!!

Following the suggestion of two users, i reported this case; first to WPFOOTY, where i was "re-directed", then at RPP. At the latter, the feedback was as usual, none. Could you have a look at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_page_protection#Anon_vandal) and suggest something or even take the matter into your consideration? It's getting quite out of hand...

Ty very much in advance, regards

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 23:11, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

  • This is really odd, mate...Please Snowy, like you did in the case above, could you also (please read the case carefully, and only if you think it deserves your input) drop a line to aid here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_page_protection#Anon_vandalism)? This is where the "This is really odd.." comes in. Again, no novelty, i don't receive, in three hours, a single word of feedback. I mean, even if the case did not merit action, i could have been told so.

Ty very much in advance, as always, Vasco - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 03:41, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Sorry to have bothered you, case closed - or better, case not closed per se, external links keep getting reverted by different anon IPs, without one word, i closed it on my own (not going to start an edit war over this). Nice weekend, Vasco - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 15:12, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Miroslav Klose

Hello, I noticed you have been here for quite some time and I was wondering if you could help me clerify one thing. In the Miroslav Klose article it states "Klose himself said in a recent interview to Przegląd Sportowy that it would be best for him not to be called German or Polish, but European". When I changed "German" to "European" my edits were instantly reverted without any real explination. Many German posters insist on listing him simply as a "German footballer" despite Klose's own words claiming he does not want to be classified this way. I understand he plays in Germany but he was born in Poland, his mother was Polish and his father (German descent) was born in Poland, speaks Polish and played professional football in Poland. Also, Miroslav speaks Polish at home, has a Polish wife, and played professional football in Poland early in his career. I would like to honor Kloses' own decleration of his nationality. If listing him as "European" is a problem, then I would at least like to see it as "Polish-German" or "German-Polish" because lisitng him as only "German" does not properly reflect his full background. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Beckenbauer1974 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 09:50, 20 March 2009 (UTC).

Wrong name

Hi there SNOW, VASCO here,

I just found out an error in a footballer article: Celta de Vigo defender Edu Moya's last name is Cantillo, not Castillo. Several webs, including the club's, attest to that. I only drop this line to you because it is a football matter and i don't know how to alter article names. Also, i did not say anything to WPFOOTY because they keep letting (some of) my requests utterly unanswered; i thought that the answers to queries might not be totally what one was expecting, but i always thought everybody was treated equally...i thought wrong.

Regarding this article, it would be even best to change the piece's name to just EDU MOYA, given that is last name is quite unuseful to the matter at hands. The most important, however, is to correct the last surname.

I have tipped! Have a good week, from Portugal - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 02:54, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

A doubt

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here again,

regarding this report (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Anon_vandal), which led to User:Lectonar protecting all four articles, i have bad news: The anon has registered, under the account Georgios21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Georgios21, i am not 100% sure it his him, but 99,99999999%, as this person continues to operate almost solely on AEK Athens FC soccer players).

Bearing in mind the four articles which i presented as evidence, at least in this, Arnaldo Edi Lopes da Silva, he proceeded to enter again, remove true info in infobox, also messing with his height and age, which can be confirmed at ZEROZERO.PT link provided (by me) - see this (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Arnaldo_Edi_Lopes_da_Silva&action=history). What can be done?

Have a great week, Vasco Amaral - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 18:20, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

SNOWY, can you please please tell me where exactly to report at WP/AIV (i mean in which field?) I fear to report because, as i mentioned earlier, i am very sad to see some of my files being ignored and/or scolded. Attentively, from Portugal, Vasco - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 23:01, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Two requests

Hi there (team)mate, VASCO here,

First things first: that GEORGIOS21 chap was blocked at lightning speed, even i was dumbfounded by that outcome; solved.

Now my friend, two requests: Could you merge Aitor Larrazabal into Aitor Larrazábal? I created, minutes ago, the page for this historical chap at Athletic Bilbao; at the very end of my "conception", i noticed his surname lacked an accent, so copy/pasted and created another page (unnecessary); Related, i have been trying to get around with the site, so tried the option "move" which i thought was perfect, until i filled all the fields and had my actions deemed invalid. Could you help me here please?

Second: i would really like to know if what i have doing (reporting vandals - football vandals) - at WPFOOTY is aproppriate. I do not wish to make anyone waste their time, including myself, so if the only fields which fit the standard are WP/AIV or akin, i would really like to know, so i report duly, timely, etc, etc.

TY very much in advance, VASCO, Portugal - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 23:10, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

However, I can try and then you could add the interview to the references and build up an article without mailing to him another 6 times. What do you think? Would it be useful? --necronudist (talk) 13:34, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of lists of local derbies

I have removed the Proposed deletion from the five pages as I believe that being unreferenced is not a valid reason for deletion. Much of the content is not covered by the List of Major football rivalries (which seems to less descriminate than the proposed articles, having no inclusion criteria at all, not even presumed geographic location), that a sourced list on this subject with clear incusion criteria would be consistent with WP:LIST, that proding a number of non-British lists and leaving Local derbies in the United Kingdom looks like anglo-centrism and that the deletion of a number of established articles such as these should be taken to AfD at a minimum. If you still feel the articles should be deleted feel free to take them to AfD to get community consensus on the issue. Regards King of the North East 01:47, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Infobox "strangeness"

Hi there SNOWMAN, VASCO here, hope all's fine by you,

I have to really ask this question, maybe you can "enlight" me: do you have any idea as to why the infobox loans show like this (→ West Ham (loan)), instead of like this (→West Ham (loan))? Really, i think that the second makes more sense than the first - why separate the items?

Is there a pattern in inserting that stuff? Thank you very much in advance, have a nice weekend,

Proposed deletion of Ross Caven

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Ross Caven, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Caven never played in a fully professional league and is therefore not notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Adminship

I guess the main thing to consider is to be prepared for a regular bombardment of messages along the lines of "OMG U R so gay for deleting my article!!!!!" - I get that a lot, along with vandalism of my userpage. Adminship would certainly bring you into conflict with people much more often than regular editing does - when I had my RfA up I specifically noted that I used to work in Customer Service and felt this gave me the ability to deal with people in a level-headed fashion even when they're being obnoxious, which several people commented was a positive thing. Many admins like to concentrate on a specific responsibility (I do a lot of speedy deletions, for example) - were you thinking of keeping an eye on anything in particular? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:35, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Foley Okenla

Hi, wondered if he might be better placed at his full name Folorunso Okenla, with the redirect from Foley? In Nigeria he played under his full name, likewise when reported in the NY Times as signing for Montreal Impact, and in their club stats. Only in England was he abbreviated to Foley. Also, I'm not sure that Neil Brown's right about him joining Birmingham from Burnley: I have two book sources which say we got him from Exeter where he was on a non-contract basis. One says he was kicking round the country for months having trials at a variety of clubs, of which Burnley was the one immediately before Exeter. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:02, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Depends how you interpret the results. Searching for "Foley Okenla" (in quotes) says there are "about 1120" results, but if you look through them, there are 19, of which most are English and half are forum posts. Searching for "Folorunso Okenla" in quotes says there are "about 95", and there are 33, most of which are not forum posts. And searching Google News (all dates option), there are no results for "Foley Okenla" and 5 for "Folorunso Okenla". cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:38, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
As I said above, I know he was called Foley for his few months in England, so that's what sources dealing with his English career are bound to call him, though I'd be very wary of getting my ideas on players' common names from Birmingham City-related messageboards :-) But most of his career wasn't spent in England. I'm not going to push the point any further, anyway. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:18, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm suggesting this for deletion since a first edition cover is also used in the article: I presume that wasn't the case when it was uploaded.

This is part of a long scan for bad cover images. (That said, this one is merely redundant, others are genuinely bad, like a modern Penguin Classics on an early-1800s novel. Though we're getting better with that.) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid not. The USL's normally very reliable stats archive is unfortunately incomplete for Wilmington's 2003 season - http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/2003/22403.html - and I don't know of another source where I would find the data. I have to admit I initially based the article purely on what Mark told me - I met him when he played in the USL PDL for Ventura County Fusion - and he said he had played in at least a couple of league games for Wilmington. Hmmm. I'm not sure what to do... --JonBroxton (talk) 16:55, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

League of Ireland PRODs

GiantSnowman, thank you for the message. I noticed that the PRODs were removed and the remover said he thought there was a prior consensus that LOI players could pass WP:ATHLETE from some old AfDs. I took him at his word, but if you think playing in the LOI is not sufficient to pass WP:ATHLETE, maybe we should send them to AfD. At least the articles have one reference and they did appear in some matches, so I'm not terribly bothered if they are kept. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 16:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Terry Lees

Hi, coupla things re your "clean up" of Terry Lees. First, the dashes in the years column are there because we're not supposed to leave that column blank in the new infobox, on accessibility grounds: see Template talk:Infobox Football biography#Conversion to .7B.7Binfobox.7D.7D, right down the bottom where I queried this. Second, do you know for a fact that Lees finished at Newport in 1982 rather than 1981? if so, please could you add a source for that, because there isn't one at the moment, hence the x's. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

That only says he played for Newport County in the 81/82 season, not that he stayed there until 1982. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Monis Pantalonis & Zé Carioca

Come on, you can only be joking with me... I was going to ignore you but, a person that did all the articles that you have, and is interested about some lost club in the times of our grand-nannies, can only have my respect and support. There is another thing that is not fair: I´ve asked you first if you were mad with me about something. Did you find any players in the rsssf site? Or I made you chek the entire list, you didn´t find any player, and that´s wy you´re mad? What happend? Yes, I was mad with you, I lost time searching the net, trying to find info to help you, then, ask you about if you did find anything interesting, and I receve ignoration and a back attack to one of my (I only have two) pages! Yes, it does feel bad! And if you did it becouse of Christian´s (Necronudist) comentaire, you can forget it, we have a long history of debate. The list exists for some time, wy did you implicate now with the list? FkpCascais (talk) 23:17, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

But you still don´t get it...I´m not mad becouse of the list. I allways knew that the lower league list is a candidate for deletion. There are great lower leagues wich don´t have their lists, like Serie B (it did existed but becouse of lack of sources was deleted, remember?), the Spanish Segunda Division or the English 2nd level that is fantastic. The serbian is pretty poor compared...or better said, it´s not even comparable. But you really can´t say that is ENTIRELLY uninteresting. Many good players from the region begin their careers there, and, even I didn´t knew, you´ve made me count them, it does really have 72 capped internationals... There are poorer lists... I was mad becouse of the moment. You are not new here, you obviously look who takes care about a certain page before naming it for deletion. So, don´t tell me that is not personal. Anyway, you didn´t responded to even one of my questions... FkpCascais (talk) 23:57, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
The ones I´ve made you: Did you find any more players for the club? Others related with the article, and wy you impliceted now with the list, and not before, or after letting me finish it, I hope soon? FkpCascais (talk) 00:11, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I´m very calm...I didn´t expected the list to be even half of the time here. But you really chose to play Monis Pantalonis & Zé Carioca with me. Don´t forget that I´m a genious about laws and interpretation (nobody is never going to know here what I really do), so you can´t really change your arguments now to: maybe, perhaps, only propose. What you wrote back there was very clear. And another thing: maybe the names that are on the list doesn´t mean much or anything to you, but many people do know them, and, same way, many of the articles about U.S. & Canadian soccer that you wrote doesn´t even say zero to me, and to many of my fellow european editors... So, I´ll respect, of course, whatever decision comes, and also, I DO KNOW, that all the great colaborations did came after fierced debates, so I wish you all the best, and I really hope that the list is not going to be deleted becouse of YOUR proposal (if you really want to see the list death,be a little bit patiente, and surelly somebody else will propoe it´s deletion, so I wan´t hate you, after all it was hard work to gather all that info). Cheers! P.S.: I really didn´t find anything about Hungaria, there is nothing about it in the net, and the literature that I have is not really about that period. And also, sorry I´ve made you chek the list, and there wasn´t any other player from the club. I was wrong, but I could sware I touth there was. Anyway, you did come up brilliantly with the issue regarding the importance of hungarians in Italy. Congratulations. Now I´m going out, couse sammer started here in Lisbon, and all the babbes are out there! FkpCascais (talk) 00:59, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Richard Huxford

He's definitely not playing, and the team website [1] doesn't list him as a formal member of staff, but there are news reports of him being there at some point in time; if he's there, my feeling is that it would be in an informal/advisory capacity, most likely because their head coach Martin Rennie is also Scottish. Sorry I can't be any more helpful than that! --JonBroxton (talk) 16:10, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Although, having said that, this link says that Huxford is Rennie's assistant, and is "his first season with the Railhawks". Maybe the staff list on the site simply hasn't been updated yet. --JonBroxton (talk) 16:13, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello,

I was wondering if you think any college player can ever be notable? To me it seems rather ridiculous that the very best college players in any given sport aren't, in reality, considerably more notable than someone who meets the bare minimum of "1 minute in one professional game."

The women in this AfD all all among the very best college players, and I have taken the time to show they have all been covered in depth by reliable sources. Thus, I respectfully request you reconsider your !vote - that is, unless you feel no current college player could possible be notable for their athletic accomplishments.

Thank you, --ThaddeusB (talk) 14:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I appreciate the reply, but I don't really understand how you can say "some college athletes are notable" and yet blanketly say none of these are. Did you check the sources I provided? All are clearly at the very top of the college game and have been covered by multiple RS. One was even named the national "player of the year." --ThaddeusB (talk) 14:26, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Aron Gunnarsson

Hi there. This is in regards to the footballing position of Aron Gunnarsson. I realise you have got a source for your information but I am 100% certain that this source is factually incorrect. I do not edit on wiki a lot but I do the odd football page and I always make sure that the Coventry City page is up to date and correct as well as some of the players. Aron Gunnarsson main position (or his only real position) is central midfield. I go to every Coventry home game and nearly all of the away games and in the whole 38 game season Aron Gunnarsson did not play right midfield once. He played right back two times but this was only because we did not have a fit right back at the start of the season - Aron Gunnarsson does not see right back as his position and he hates playing there. In every other game he played in centre midfield because this is his only true position and where he plays best (where he is awesome!). I appreciate you got the info from a source but it is incorrect. I would be really glad if you could change his page so that it suits us both and it displays the correct info. Sorry for any inconvenience. Also, Aron's new number is 17 - it has changed, it's just that the official site hasn't been updated yet.OfficialCCFC (talk) 19:42, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

A (reasonable?) doubt

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's fine by you,

I first had to contact some user with a good grasp of WP and football alike, to see if we are dealing with a BLP case, before i (eventually) ask for page protection:

In Rui Patrício, this happened: this goalkeeper, in Sporting Clube de Portugal's match against FC Twente in the UEFA Champions League 2009-10, as his club was losing 0-1 in the second leg (0-0 in the first hand at home), rushed to the penalty box for a corner, jumped to the ball and "provoked" an own goal, but did not score it.

I altered storyline, added a REF to prove it, but at least two anon IP (don't know if it was the same person) set his club stats to 47 matches-1 goal. It's grossly incorrect, because: he DID NOT score the goal and, even if he did, infobox stats are only for league. What are your views?

Ty very much in advance, if you're on a holiday happy rest,

Hi Giant,

Unfortunately upon closer inspection the Gazza bit turned out not to be as useful as I'd remembered. It's in an appendix which takes the form of a Q&A with him, and the bit I was half-remembering simply says: Q. In your experience, have you ever come across a gay footballer, or one presumed to be gay? A. No. Q. Would you say footballers are prejudiced against homosexuals? A. No. Still, if you wanted to use it, the ref is {{cite book|first=Paul|last=Gascoigne|coauthors=Davies, Hunter|title=Gazza: My Story|publisher=Headline Book Publishing|year=2005|isbn=0-7472-6818-5|page=519}}

You proposed this article for deletion, citing the fact that it's a non-notable football match. I objected to this, primarily because the match is notable, proven by the fact that it was voted in at 72nd in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Sporting Moments of all time. It is one of the only football matches in that list which doesn't have it's own article. England beating Germany 5-1 has an article, and Hereford beating Newcastle in the FA Cup in 1972 was voted behind this game in 97th place and has it's own article. The game may have been from a lower division, but is still an incredibly famous sporting moment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steveww (talkcontribs) 11:50, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's swell with you (in holidays if possible),

A short (and i hope intense and fruitful :) ) debate. I saw that you made some "moves" at Mohamed Diamé, in one of them claiming move to Wigan Athletic was only speculation. No mate, from what i read it is 100% accurate, at least was, because some heart problems were found with the player and the move was halted for further examination.

Are the foreign REFS diminishing the article's credibility? They could be, i don't know, due to the language barrier, but i think they are pretty much official (from Diario Marca, the newspaper in Spain with the biggest "print"); as we speak, i managed to at least replace one foreign REF with a BBC one (see here http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/manchester/hi/default.stm), i hope that "betters" the piece. All in all, i reinstated some "former goods", but DIAMÉ stays put at Rayo Vallecano for the moment, as you pointed out. Regarding the aforementioned heart issues, i added new REF, don't worry, but it was also in Spanish, only thing i could scrape.

Sorry for any inconvenience, mate, keep up the good work,

Selección

To say that CF Rapa Nui is also called Selección Rapa Nui is roughly equivalent to saying that England are sometimes called "The England team" or Everton put out an "Everton XI". Kevin McE (talk) 11:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

On the page that you've just cited on my talk they are only referred to once, and then as CF Rapa Nui. The match report you cite in the article gives selección de twice; note lower case s and the preposition, which essentially makes it "a team from Rapa Nui" rather than "Team Rapa Nui". Kevin McE (talk) 11:25, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I think you misunderstood me: the team is only referred to once, by the name CF Rapa Nui: Selección Rapa Nui does not appear on the ANFP page that you cite on my talk page. Kevin McE (talk) 11:32, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

The article is incorrect to state that Jack Haines played at Cheltenham Town. I am in the process of informing the relevant sources that that information regarding Haines at Cheltenham Town is incorrect he never played for the club never appeared at any level for them. I have undertaken over 7 years of research on the club and have line squad line ups dating back to the early 1920's and he is not listed in any even club officials can find no evidence of him being at the club. I am unable to put this information on Wiki due to it's inclusion in a future book to be written by myself and do not wish too put my own research out into public until after its publication. It is possible that Haines played in local Cheltenham football and because of this is creditted to have gone to Liverpool FC from the club.Wrombo —Preceding undated comment added 13:17, 1 September 2009 (UTC).

Thats my point he has never been at the club EVER either in a playing or non playing capacity my research includes those that never played and again no Jack Haines so unless he went by a different name I can say 99.9% certain he was NEVER at the club Wrombo —Preceding undated comment added 13:30, 1 September 2009 (UTC).

Template "revolution"

Hey mate, VASCO here, hope all's fine with you,

What gives man, help needed!

List

This list of yours, how are we defining "former" players? Blokes who've retired from all football; or does it extend to those who are still playing but aren't likely to ever play in the leagues again? And if retired, how long do they need to be retired for it to be convincing? For instance, Michael Johnson retired at the end of last season to become youth team manager of Notts County, but it wouldn't surprise me if they've got him registered as a player in case Sol Campbell struggles with motivation in the lower divisions :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:01, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Fair enough. Did you know that individual player pages on Neil Brown's site aren't necessarily equal to the sum of their parts? e.g. Noel Blake has 130 apps for Exeter up to 1998 according to his individual page, but 147 apps up to 2001 (which agrees with Soccerbase) on Exeter's page. There are others... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:17, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
And the next stupid question... If a player spends full seasons in mid-career playing outside the leagues, either abroad or in the Conference or whatever, presumably those seasons shouldn't be counted in the column? as they wouldn't be if they preceded or followed his league career. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:30, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Kakuta will be playing for the France U19s for the 2009–2010 season, in which after that, he will be ineligible to represent them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joao10Siamun (talkcontribs) 21:59, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Proposition X

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's fine with you,

I want to make this proposition, in order to solve this ongoing war that has gained rather silly outlines (no offense meant to you mate, i have the utmost respect for your manners, approach and edits). I will say some stuff which is in no way new, but i will add "around" that concept; Take the example of Paco Clos; again - i bet it's the same user (he has already had three accounts banned, now i am most definitely sure he has a fourth) - he reverts everytime someone dares to remove the FC, and he also has a neverending supply of anonymous IPs, so i guess it's a lost battle there (and i don't see any patterns there for a feud mate, with all the kindness in the world, because i have seen tons of other articles from players connected to FC Barcelona with the FC intact (even some "famous", as Carles Puyol - at least last week)).

What i add to the discussion is that i don't know why that is done with Barcelona and then the "REAL" in many club names is allowed to stay, when no club (except Real Madrid) is known with that "royal surname"; it's always Betis, not Real Betis, etc, etc. So, i guess there is a bit of incoherence there, on someone's part.

My proposition (although i believe the FC BARCELONA "master" will have none of it :) ) is the following; compress the infobox, then leave the full wikilink in storyline. What are your views? From the feud i observed in CLOS' article, i believe there are some guidelines, but i haven't seen any yet. Your last response to me in a previous "chat" was not all that clear also.

All in all, nice talking to you (as always), kind regards,

General footy comments

Hi mate, I have started to create stub articles for the missing Football League Cup seasons (starting with the 1960s tournaments). Can you take a look at these and, if you have time, start adding some more results, in line with the 2009-10 article style. It would be good if you could also check out the English football season templates that I have been working on e.g. Template:2004-05 in English football. Some clearing-ups

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's super with you,

Regarding my latest summary in Brian Sarmiento, i hope i didn't come across as abusive or the sorts, sorry if i did, man. I elaborate: in most of the countries of the major football leagues, loans tend to be for the season's duration, although i know there is another approach in the Premier League, with loans for as few as three months. That is why i write the two years (in this case 2009-2010) in 99,99999% of the cases.

Of course with no reasonable doubt ;) i respect your edits tremendously, so i will leave this date be in Sarmiento's piece, don't fret! On a related note, saw your "exchange" with Fache and it really amused me mate, but i must say you got yourself a tough competitor in me, i must have edited footballers from Burkina Faso to Yugoslavia as well....

Sorry any incovenience, kind Portuguese regards,

Reliable sources,

You've lost me. I'm not talking about the article with contributions from Glass, I'm on about other articles on that blog. They have the same information as other reliable sources, ergo it is reliable!

You have shown no proof that they contain the same information, and neither has that blog, therefore it is unreliable. Further, it has been deemed unreliable on the reliable sources noticeboard. It is not to be used.— dαlus Contribs 23:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I fail to see your point. Those are just two articles I haven't gotten to out of the 191 articles that remain that use an unreliable source as a source. Further, if you dispute the fact that it was deemed unreliable, take it up on the reliable sources noticeboard, the place where it was deemed unreliable.— dαlus Contribs 08:21, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I never said it was semi-reliable. I said it isn't, and I also said it was deemed unreliable at the reliable sources noticeboard. The fact of the matter is, anyone can say this article is composed of material from source X, however no link is given to source X, therefore, it is not verifiable, and cannot be trusted. I could say on my website that I get all my statistics from some respected source, but that doesn't make me reliable, as I have nothing backing it up. You have failed, time and time again, to prove how it is reliable. Simply stating it uses material from a reportedly reliable source doesn't cut it. It has to link to the source material.— dαlus Contribs 08:28, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Maybe because you've supplied no proof that it matches information. Just because it's listed as a source on an article isn't evidence of anything.— dαlus Contribs 08:32, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Yes I can, because it does not meet our WP:RS policy. It is a blog by either one or many unnamed people, which doesn't have outside peer-review, or any evidence of fact-checking.— dαlus Contribs 08:40, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
WP:RS is quite clear. Do I need to repeat it here, or am I to assume you've read it?— dαlus Contribs 08:48, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Closing AfDs,

When a nomination is withdrawn, and there is a keep vote, it is not closed as keep, it is closed as withdrawn. I have changed the AfD and article talk page to accurately reflect this, it is only keep if there is abounding consensus between editors. A single editor, or a few editors is not consensus.— dαlus Contribs 09:20, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Well that was the first I've ever done! heh, just hope I done it all okay. :) Govvy (talk) 11:51, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

No, they're not notable at all. They are a USASA club from Utah, and fairely successful in their region, but have not made any impact on a national level. Their only real contribution has been to send Justin Braun to Chivas USA. As far as I am aware they have never entered the US Open Cup (qualification for which would make them notable), so until that happens I would suggest taking them to AfD. --JonBroxton (talk) 01:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello GiantSnowman. I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you removed the prod from this article, but I'm not sure I agree with the reason. As far as I can tell, Cicoria joined Luzern after they were relegated from the Super League following the 2002/03 season. Perhaps he played in the Spring 2003 season (which was a mini-league composed of the bottom 4 from the fall 2002 top league and the top 4 from the second league)? I can't find any evidence of this (unforunately, the site www.eurosoccer.ch used to have match reports for these matches, but it seems the site is down. It's also possible that Cicoria played for Luzern in a Cup match against another pro club, but I can't find evidence of that either. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 16:31, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. I've checked various sites, and I can't find anything that shows Cicoria played for Luzern while they were in the Super League (i.e., before the 03/04 season). He appeared as a substitute in a few matches during their run to the 04/05 Cup final, but the only Super League clubs Luzern played were Aarau in the 1/2-final and FCZ in the final. I found a match report for the final, and Cicoria didn't play, but I can't find a match report for the 1/2-final. I know Luzern also played Grasshoppers in the 1/16-final of the 03/04 Cup, but I can't find a match report for that either. I won't take the article to AfD, because there is a decent chance he played in one of those cup matches. Best regards. Jogurney (talk) 20:32, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Football vandal

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

A serious situation has arisen!! I found out about this vandal, User:Marvingroves, while browsing some footballers, and addressed this situation to you and a couple other more members of "The Force", to see what we can do. I took some time to browse through his edits (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Marvingroves) and, after seeing he edits solely on soccer, i knew whom i had to address. I am not going to report it to WP:AIV to obtain the same old answers: "User must have been warned several times", "User must be active this moment", etc. Furthermore, after nearly three weeks of vandalizing, he has not received yet one warning - another thing AIV strongly puts its finger on for accurate reports.

And what does this "user" do, you ask? I'll tell you, with three good examples: in José Manuel Pinto and Albert Jorquera, he stated that both players were Spanish internationals, when they are NOT!! In Santiago Ezquerro, he felt generous, and inserted +100 (!!!) goals for the player at Athletic Bilbao. I do not need to see more edits of him to know it is a vandal (vandalism is not only rubbish words, death threats and akin, this is also i believe).

Any suggestions mate? Ty very much in advance. From Portugal,

Error

Hi there SNOWY, how's it going, VASCO here,

I'd like to ask you a big favour, if you please (!): someone, unduly, moved the page of Luis Prieto Zalbidegoitia (footballer) to Luis Prieto (movie director), now i cannot seem to undo it - why would people move this page when there are 2 LUIS PRIETO?

I would like for you to do too things, my "beef" being with the second: 1st - reinstate the footballer's page (this is piece of cake i imagine); 2nd - reinstate it with its storyline (if it can be retrieved!).

Ty very much in advance, have a brilliant weekend,

  • Would you mind if i said you ARE MY HERO? OK, maybe it's a little far-fetched, but at least my hero at this time of night at this particular point of interest... :)

Thanks a million, keep it up,

Jim / Harry Waites

Hello Giantsnowman. The editor of the voetbalstats.nl website agrees with me. He changed the first name of Waites on his site Cattivi (talk) 10:11, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Harry Waites was apparantly a former rugby player. (or coach, I don't know anything about this sport maybe you know someone who knows more about the subject)He spent much of World War one in a Prisoner of War camp in Groningen. His unit crossed the border near Antwerp to avoid being taken prisoner by the Germans. All soldiers who did this ,German, Belgian or English were interned, because the Netherlands were neutral during the war. These camps were 'open' prisons, the soldiers could go into town. Voetbalmatches were played between Dutch and English teams. Sheffield Wednesday and Chesterfield goalkeeper Arnold Birch was in the same camp. Waites was already employed by Be Quick during the war as a coach and masseur. He was very highly regarded as a masseur (not so much as a coach) After the war he returned to Groningen Be Quick became champion of the Netherlands in 1920. In 1921 he went to Leeuwarden to train Frisia. He also had a sportswear / sport equipment / tobacco shop in Leeuwarden. In 1924-25 Feyenoord. In 1925 he returned to England (Yorkshire?) Finding a date of birth can't be difficult, I don't expect many people with the name Waites living in Leeuwarden or Groningen in those years, but I would have to go there and I have no short term plans to do so. You can use this as reference :

Hey, yeah, www.southportfcstats.co.uk - a very comprehensive website, with stats of every player to have played for Southport in the last 30+ years. I think soccerbase is basing it on his appearances in the 06/07 season, when Southport were in the Conference National, not counting his following Conference North appearances, following their relegation. Attention

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

Upon discovering the vandalism of User:Marvingroves which i have already pointed out to you (you don't add 100 goals in a player's page unintentionally!), i have been tipped by User:Picolotto that MARVIN opened another account, called User:Racheedmani (contributions, or is it "contributions" here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Racheedmani). PICOLOTTO may be a bit of a nuisance with his FC Barcelona "FC/no FC" stuff, but he is no vandal and i think he's onto something here...

Like you suggested, i warned him once with the appropriate template (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Marvingroves), then again after PICOLOTTO's message. To the first, more than a week ago, i received no feedback whatsoever.

All in all, do you think it's enough for a AIV report? It would be of interest i reckon, especially in the part where a checkuser is "put into action". What are your views?

Have a great week,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 01:27, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Soccerbase is wrong. It got him confused with Paul Edwards. Danny has yet to make an appearance.--EchetusXe 07:07, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Youssouf Hersi

Hello, noticed you gave User:Oqaz a vandalism warning for changing an appearance figure on the above. Not long before, I'd reverted a change to Mehdi Nafti's stats, and asked that user what source they were using. Haven't had an answer yet, but I'm guessing the Guardian stats centre, which backs up both their change to Nafti (they're wrong, because it omits two games where he was a very late sub) and their change to Hersi, see [6]. I'll add a bit to my first note, suggesting perhaps they shouldn't do mass changes where their change contradicts a source in the article :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:13, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Atif Bashir

I think you will find it's not me. All i do is revert the stupid edits you make, such as saying Zesh Rahman plays for Man City. How stupid is that? Druryfire (talk)

I don't think so pal, because i don't edit player personnel, all i did was revert your edits, one was quite clearly wrong, so i assume the other was aswell. Druryfire (talk) 12:02, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
No, one again i didn't edit something, i reverted an edit that was wrong, your edit for Zesh Rahman quite clearly was to show he played for MANCHESTER CITY, how could you get that wrong??? Again, i don't edit players details because i don't know players details. But you must admit, i've seen some of your edits on other pages that are simply mistakes, so you have to be more careful otherwise everyone will revert your material because it is inacurate, as the Zesh instance proved. Druryfire (talk) 12:11, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Your starting to bore me now young man, i have never edited this guys name, becuas ei have never heard of this guy, so why would i change it? I didn't, i reverted the edit that you made for Zesh which was clearly wrong and this must have included this guy as well because it's strange how one guy makes an edit and changes peoples names aswell. It's not an uncommon thing to happen in such small footballing nations as Pakistan, as many people make pointless edits. Another thing, since your on names, why don't you use his correct name? QURESHI ATIF BASHIR? Druryfire (talk) 12:28, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Can you just drop it now? I haven't the time to mes around with you, but when i get the chance, i will be glad to point out your mistakes that i have cleared up for you. Why not use QURESHI ATIF BASHIR and link it to ATIF BASHIR? Druryfire (talk) 12:40, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Fernando Silva (footballer born 1977)

Your Coreva-Bot added an unreferenced tag to the above referenced article...GiantSnowman 19:47, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Technically taken the article includes an external links section which is, par the WP:MOS and Wikipedia:External_links#References_and_citation, not meant to include references used in the development of the article. Because of this Coreva does not take these external link sections into account when placing that template; Instead it checks for <ref> tags and References headers. If it finds either it will not tag the article.
By the way, now that you mentioned that external link, did you know it does not work properly? It seems to use the article titel as the ID, causing the link to become http://www.national-football-teams.com/v2/player.php?id=fernando_silva_(footballer_born_1977) instead of http://www.national-football-teams.com/v2/player.php?id=160. i tried to fix it myself, but it doesn't seem to work. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:25, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, fair enough then, seeing as it is test bot I just thought I'd let you know in case it affected your plans. As for the external links, I have fixed the NFT template. Cheers, GiantSnowman 21:30, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Indeed, good you mentioned it, thanks! Geez, if i forget that at every bug report im pretty sure people eventually wont bother dropping me a note anymore. One of the problems with Coreva is that it checks for a rather large amount of issues to tag for, which at times creates some complex situations. If i did ignore on external links headers this could provide false negatives on quite some article's. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:40, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

What on earth?

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

As you my good friend very well know, stats are LEAGUE only, infobox says it very clearly, although in small print. Well, apparently not for everyone: at Lê Công Vinh, i corrected his stats from 2gm-1gl to 1gm-0gl, as he netted in the cup, which i promptly added in storyline.

A Vietnamese editor (well i assume so, due to his account name and the fact the footballer is also from that nation) reverted it back to "2 (1)", and i sent him a message stating that "LEAGUE ONLY" stuff; his reply? almost historical, have a look, especially at the last line (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:NothingButAGoodNothing#NgUy3nKiDz). I know maybe the language here was a barrier but i was i think very clear in my message, saying that cup goals should not be added. I am not going to start an edit war over this or any article so, i'll leave that (false) info be.

If you get to any other "consensus", whistle me, mate, i'd appreciate it!

Have a nice sunday, VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 21:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

  • No man, about the "consensus", i meant if you got to talk with him and if he responded, because i am through talking with this chap ("a goal is a goal, you can't change that"), of course i know already pretty well it's league only, just that i'm not going to change it to the CORRECT form only to find it 2/3 days later re-reverted...

Cheers, have a splendid week,

Re: Deletion of Scott Steele

It was my very first article one of my first articles (back in August 2006), and in retrospect he probably isn't notable enough. One of the references used when I first created the article has gone, there is little news coverage of him, and by all accounts the article meets the criteria for deletion. I have added one news article from a Surrey news website (http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/sport/s/81963_soccer_woking_finish_on_low) which briefly mentions him. The date of birth was not added by me (though the age was added by me shortly after I created the article, it was taken from a page on bisleyfc.com which still exists but is not dated (other than a photograph dated August 2006), and the two conflicting precise dates of September 19, 1971 and September 9, 1971 were added by some one (same user posted both dates), though they are unreferenced and there is no way of knowing which is accurate. Another undated source lists his age as 37 - [7].
In short, I have no objection to deletion.--Jatkins (talk - contribs) 20:54, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Almighty kickup?

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here, hope all's fine with you,

Another strange thing happened to me: i went to move a player's page at Elche CF (it simply read USERO, it's like having an article named just ZIDANE or ROONEY or ARSHAVIN, i think all the players in the world deserve the same respect - unless it is a nickname (PELÉ, BEBETO, etc) - and have both names inserted in article's denomination).

So i did, moving the page to SANTIAGO USERO; after i did it i realized his given name is FERNANDO, got it all wrong man!! Tried to move it to FERNANDO USERO, but was not allowed to; strangely enough, there is no other article named that way, could you help me please?

5 consecutive warnings

As you see from my last edit at the AN/I, upon reflection I agree with your comment that I should not have left multiple warnings. I didn't realize it at the time (thinking that as there were different edits, each warranted a warning). But I realize now that that's not how we operate. In the future I understand that even if I come across edits that are clearly vandalism, and no matter how many such edits are made, editors should only get one warning. I'll do better in the future. Look at the zh.wiki article - it has 16 sources, of which 2 are in English. This article was created in response to a translation request, which has yet to be filled. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:37, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Changes (hopefully for the better)

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

After seeing your "situation" with User:Picolotto about Nélson Saavedra (this user talks to me in Portuguese and that is it in terms of communication, and he does not think one second about reverting stuff 100, 500 times if need be, a tough situation for the rest of us), i went in a made some inputs as well.

Turns out i think if the INTRO is well detailed (as did i), the word "DEFENDER" suffices perfectly for info purposes. I also added a reference. Hope you like it!!

Cheers, take care,

VASCO, Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:58, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Losing my confidence in this user i've discussed above, the level of wiki-arrogance is a bit mind-blowing. His last step, seemingly a good one: compressing box (also my kind of approach, compression in box, full names in storyline), with one exception: FC BARCELONA (A or B teams) can not be touched, he will revert it 5000000 times if need be, no conversation whatsoever (did that to me in Fernando Navarro as well, without a word in my talkpage, and i've sent him two messages regarding the subject, with the polite question "Why is FC BARCELONA the only club that cannot be compressed?").

Clearly don't know what to do, have a great week, regards,

VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 04:09, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

  • He has finally responded, no worries now; also, i really did not want to report him, we have come to establish a fair relationship and i did not want to "ruin" that (or even without the quotation marks, man!). More, he's not a vandal per se (like so many i/you have met...), just a really difficult editor to work with, a fact greatly enhanced by his very little grasp of the English language.

Ty as always for your kind/to-the-point reply, take care,

I see I added a notification to your notification. Re: Wikipedia: Articles for deletion/Alumni F.C.

Hi there, I put the AFD there when the PROD was still active was because I wanted to see what everyone else thought, since I always do AFD's. Besides an article with a PROD might be a notable article without notice after the 7 days, then gets deleted, then some people wouldn't be to happy. So to answer the question, I do it just to see what others think.--Pookeo9 Talk If you need anything 20:50, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Requests

Hi there editor of all editors, VASCO here,

I would like to put forth two things to you my friend: first, regarding this discussion (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Lionel_Messi#Winger_vs._striker.3F_No.2C_winger_AND_striker.21), User:Picolotto says that another user (not him) as also meddled with Lionel Messi's position, changing from STRIKER to FORWARD. What can be done?

Speaking of FC Barcelona and wiki-laws (which can be changed, as anything in this life but death!), i would like to see if you could bring this discussion to WPFOOTY, as i think i have very little credit in the forums (and also, several individual editors have let me without ZERO response after six or more messages), as you seem to be the exact opposite (and with great merit might i add!)....Stop the rambling VASCO!! :) :)

The discussion is this: is there a way if the compression of club names could only be such in infoboxes, and that names in storyline should appear in full? I think it would be neater in display. If you state it as being impossible, i think i will stop re-adding the FC's then...Strange for instance at Sergio Busquets when they compress FC Basel leaving just BASEL, seems so incomplete. Relatedly, also in association football, i think all competitions should be formatted, in HONOURS, to SPANISH/PORTUGUESE/FRENCH/GERMAN cup/league/league cup, avoiding the (in my view) eccentric approaches of SUPERLIGA, TURKCELL SUPER LIG, LIGA ADELANTE. With this i do not mean all articles should be renamed, no siree, just that the links should be "hidden" in already referred to HONOURS. And, of course, this excludes the English competitions, as this is EN.WIKI and we have to be compliant with the majority (those would remain FA CUP, COMMUNITY SHIELD, PREMIER LEAGUE).

Would (as always) love to see your inputs to this, kind regards from your WIKI-friend,

VASCO, Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 02:14, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

"Barcelonism"

Hi there GIANT ONE, VASCO here,

Still the old issue, brought forth by Picolotto, and i feel he may have a point: he said to me yesterday that some users have been inserting Barcelona B in some cases, and Barcelona Atlètic in others. This may appear logic, as the club changed denomination in 2008, after the arrival of Luis Enrique as coach, but it is highly incoherent, for display purposes, i think BARCELONA B suffices perfectly (also keep in mind Picolotto says he has finally accepted and will no longer write the "FC" in box).

Send me your good views on the subject if you please, so i can pass them on to the other user, let's see what can be made of this...

Cheers, take care,

VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 02:29, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks man, hope your weekend was great! I see your point, it's just i thought that, for compression purposes, just BARCELONA B, CELTA B (team was known as CELTA TURISTA then changed to CELTA B in the 90's i think), OSASUNA B (was known previously as OSASUNA PROMESAS), etc sufficed, then we could if needed state full name in storyline.

Happy return to "Earth", VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:24, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Also, i guess i am going to need your invaluable help mate: i want to create the article Luis Cembranos, but it keeps redirecting to FC Barcelona (my only guess is that this player is mentioned in the club's article, but really i dunno why...); i could choose an alternate title like LUIS CEMBRANOS MARTINEZ, but i feel those two names are more than enough. Could you help me please?

Regards again, VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:21, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Thought of this as i woke up today: so, in players like Pedro Rodríguez, who played with the reserves before and after the name change, we should have "?–2008/2008–2009/2008– / clubs = Barcelona B/Barcelona Atlètic/Barcelona"? If so, that's a bit strange, methinks...

Regards, handshakes and all that, VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:39, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately none of my books on the Gills make mention of it, so I'm afraid I can't confirm. Sorry about that...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:18, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Pityful!!!

Hi there SNOWY, VASCO here,

even though your action took place more than two weeks ago, only saw it today: thank you very much for reverting vandalism in my user page. This "person" (quotation marks intentional!!) vandalized some pages, i reported him and/or protected some pages, and what did i get in return? The "person", with a neverending supply of anon IP, other than vandalizing pages still, now does it too in my user and talk pages, pitfyul!!!

Thanks a million (and prepare maybe to have your stuff and edits vandalized as well, the "person" does not like one bit to have his "cuntributions" (sorry for the language, but i'm seething!) reverted) again, have a great week,

Association football in London

Hi Rob, just a quick message to say many thanks for your improvements to this article; an odd choice for a fellow Canuck to be an expert in though! Cheers, GiantSnowman 18:01, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
