Unblocking

You do know you unblocked Grawp earlier Special:Contributions/Come_sit_on_my_face1? MBisanz talk 01:56, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Dammit. There was nothing to indicate that was him at the time I unblocked him. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:00, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

nangparbat sock is back again

I'll look into it. Sounds like some more rangeblocks are in order. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:07, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I nominated the article Crime in the United Arab Emirates for DYK, but did not receive the DYK message. What should I do? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 01:13, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Looks like it's already been used, so I'd say you can just give it to yourself. The template notices are just to let someone know that their suggestion was used; either they figured it was unnecessary in your case, or they just forgot (the more likely of the two). Congrats, in any event! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:19, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Nangparbat

Hello Hersfold,

Just wanted to bring to your attention that Nangparbat is back again using various IPs as how he did before. This time however s/he's much more aggresive and it's difficult for us to constantly undo his changes. It's again the same thing, claiming articles are "pro-Indian bias" and "anti-Pakistani". I initially wanted to avoid seeking administrator intervention by talking to him, but this seemed in vain as he was still continuing his damaging edits rather than discussing them with me. To prove my point that he's being disprutive rather than constructive, here are some of the activities he indulges in.

  • Removal of cited content
    • as he did here. You can check the source and verify if what he's telling is true.
  • Making bold and nasty remarks
  • Page blanking
  • Makes edits in bad taste without using proper grammar
    • Look at this for instance. I'm sure you understand clearly what he's trying to imply.

To repeat myself, reverting again and again is a burden to Wikipedians such as myself and others. The user is not willing to communicate constructively to iron his dissatisfaction out. He just wants things done his way. I don't know how to classify his actiona other than vandalism. Hence, I see no other way than to enforce a range block as done before. The range block before created relative peace for two-odd weeks. Now it has started all over again. I'm not an advocate of this measure, but I see no other alternative. We have tried protecting pages in the past but this user tends to move on to other pages within the same scope. Day by day more damage is being done.

Some of the Ips involved (in this round, excluding the case in the beginning of August) are as listed below:

I'll keep updating

With this, I humbly seek your assistance in cracking down on this menace. Please keep me posted on the progress. I have placed this page in my watchlist. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and have a great day.  S3000  ☎ 10:16, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

are you prepared to talk yes or no if vandals like kashmir cloud are let of the hook just because hes indian and hersfold has a thing for india i will continue to revert kashmircloud totally biased edits you can rangeblock all you want unless kashmir cloud is on the loose i will carry on reverting his pro india edits (your probably going to revert this edit maybe you should talk with me instead look what happened in iraq you didnt talk just went to war now the world hates america and americans) 86.162.67.217 (talk) 11:19, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Please go ahead and add any more active IPs to User:Hersfold/Vandal watch#Nangparbat, taking care to keep them in sorted order to make rangeblocks easier to determine and marking the new ones with (active). I'm going to go to ANI about this - I'm not certain about a rangeblock a second time around, as this is a very commonly used network in the UK, and he is bouncing around a bit as you can see. Hopefully we'll get an end to this soon, although any measure we do is likely to be temporary, as it was last time. Hersfold (t/a/c) 13:41, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll keep the User:Hersfold/Vandal watch#Nangparbat updated. Yes, it's fine if it's just temporary. We certainly can't clampdown a range of IPs indefinately. In fact the last time you rangeblocked, it was effective in the sense that the disruptive editing stopped. Only now (I guess the block recently expired) has it started again. Please keep me posted. Thanks again.  S3000  ☎ 17:38, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
The problem here is that we're dealing with a huge network. Most of these IP addresses should be stable, but Nangparbat has apparently found out how to force his IP to change sooner than it should. As a result, any IP address we block is going to be someone else within a few minutes, and any range we block is going to be filled with innocent users within a day or two. I know last time it seemed to work well enough, but we probably blocked off hundreds of other people who didn't bother to protest the block.
What we can do is contact the ISP through an abuse report and make them aware of the situation. With any luck, they'll be able to do something on their end to stop this. Until then, we're more or less limited to blocking each IP for a short time as they come up. It's annoying and not as effective, I know, but we also have to consider what we're doing to other users looking to join. Sorry. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:39, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I understand. It's pointless blocking hundreds of innocent users due to the misconduct by one rotten apple. In the mean time, please go ahead and make an abuse report as this user doesn't seem like he's gonna stop his nonsense anytime soon. We shall keep our fingers crossed that the report may help straighten this issue. In the mean time I'll keep watch of his edits and zap them at point. If it persists for long, I will contact you seeking assistance to semi-protect certain articles which are hot on his inventory. Please keep me updated. Thanks.  S3000  ☎ 17:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's also a possibility. Again, semi-protection can't be permanent in this case, especially on talk pages, but it should help deter him if he gets particularly troublesome. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Report has been filed at Wikipedia:Abuse reports/81.15x.x.x and 86.1x.x.x ranges. Hopefully it will get dealt with soon, although it technically doesn't meet their criteria. I'm hoping whoever looks at this will understand that 92 IP addresses are a bit excessive for one person to be using. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I had a conversation with this guy (please see my talk page) and I addressed his issues. He claims that he will not continue his disruptive edits, in fact he said he will not edit anymore! I'm not too sure how sincere he is, only time will tell. Hence, do you think we should proceed with this (taking into account the past damage he's done) or keep it on hold for the time being? Thanks.  S3000  ☎ 19:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
<- Keep an eye on him for a while, I guess, and if he doesn't cause any more trouble I'll just delete the abuse report. We can always get it restored if it's needed again. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Sure. Those "hot articles" are on my watchlist and I'll get back to you should there be further trouble. Please keep User:Hersfold/Vandal watch#Nangparbat open (or saved in archive) as has may show up again in future. Thanks for your assistance. Have a good day.  S3000  ☎ 08:37, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

My unblock notice

I saw you were confused by the unblock template on my user talk page. The reason it didn't make sense was because it was placed by User:56.0.143.23 who was vandalizing apparently confused as to its purpose. --Philosopher Let us reason together. 23:16, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Status help

Clearly I am missing something in the directions you've given for installing your status template. If you get a chance could you help a new user out and give me the remedial directions? (I'm sure it's something silly I'm missing!) Thanks! clarityat3am (talk) 03:56, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

It looks like everything should be working out - make sure you're using the Monobook skin in your preferences (that's the default one, so you'll know if you've changed it), and that you've bypassed your cache recently to force your browser to use the new script. It looks like it's working for me (I just set you to "offline"), and I don't see anything that would be causing problems on your end. Let me know if you keep having trouble with it. Motto of the day

Hey there, long time no see. I believe the last time I met you was when I was looking for an adopter, and therefore I asked you. Well, I'm past I've graduated my adoption, about two months ago, and its nice to see you again. :-) Anyway, I received your message (and noticed you were adding this to many user's talk pages, so I decided to comment here rather than my talk page, since I highly doubt you would be watching over 200 user pages), and would be happy to help with Motto of the Day. I have been watching the page for about 5 months, but never really commented recently, so I could of course start again. Though, I've never seen the process of closing nominations, and would like to get involved in this area. I'm sure my experience with closing WP:AfDs would help me decide consensus while closing nominations. Now, since I've basically been inactive for a while here, may I have links to the pages involved in MOTD? Thanks! -- RyRy (talk) 03:15, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

It's rather similar to AfDs, except you are basically counting votes since it's all "I like it" kinda stuff, and consensus recently has been two people, one of whom was me. As I said in the message, there's details on the nominations page, but it's not too big a deal. Anyway, it's all at WP:MOTD. Thanks for helping out. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:48, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for the info! -- RyRy (talk) 03:53, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry to hear about the state of the project. I will gladly get involved with the nominations. I should be able to start today. Thanks for notifying me, Jordan Contribs 06:54, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I completely agree with you and understand your position - I led the MOTD revival project a long while ago, which brought it to the attention of many. It was completely dead when I found it, I revived it, redid the main pages, sorted the template out (when we only had one) and got more people involved. Since then it has stagnated again, partly because I lost some interest and partly because a lot of mottoes were repeats or people were running out of things to say. I'll see what I can do about suggestions and voting on current ones, and also about bringing the MOTD project to the attention of the wider Wiki. —Vanderdeckenξφ 14:27, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

re: motto of the day

Thanks for inquring about the motto of the day. I did notice that sometimes mottos would repeat every week or so. I think what your doing is a good cause, and could help Wikipedia immensely.

I do have a suggestion about a motto. I want to post this on the nominations page, since I don't have the full idea. Maybe somthing like, "Use the force, Luke", from Star Wars. The force being maybe blocking against vandals or using Twinkle. I don't know who Luke would be though.

Again, this is just a suggestion I'm just throwing out there. Please reply and give me your honest opinion. Thanks, and happy editing! --♥Soccer5525♥Talk To Me! 20:39, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

You could try something like "Use the Force, Luke", or something similar. If you suggest it and mention you're not sure how to finish it up, people will probably suggest some other links to use. Thanks for the help! Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the Day

Hey Hersfold, can you explain the process on how to close MOTD nominations? I'd like to offer help in closing them, but I'd like tips on how to. iMatthew (talk) 19:47, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

There are detailed instructions at the nominations page, but basically you're counting votes. It's supposed to be based on consensus, but since most of the comments are "I like it" it boils down to "Are there enough people supporting this?". If so, just add :Approved ~~~~ at the end of the discussion and move it to the bottom of the nominations page (the Decisions section). Someone will come along later and schedule it. If there's not enough support to accept it, you can either it or mark it with Thrown out. Relists go back to the top of "In Review" and rejects go to the decisions section. It's all pretty simple, as closings go. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:38, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

HI HELP

please save POK article from deletion

Pakistan occupied Kashmir article has been posted for deletion..i have made the following appeal there:

  • do not delete : PLEASE allow editing to take place in this article so that it gets balanced; disabling editing and then crying unbalanced is hypocrisy!!!..As we all know we didn't delete european union article just because there was an "england" article or "france" article or "germany" article (which are part of EU nevertheless) ... Similarly we did not destroy soviet union article just because it is divided into 15 parts..Further it is very very clear that POK is not the same as "azad k ONLY" or "northern areas ONLY" as pok also includes trans karakoram tract, gilgit and baltistan (from 1947 till now)...pok term is used by most if not all non pakistan media.so ip and soman contention invalid.. i think it is not "fork" since contents are not identical, verifiable, has reliable sources and differs from the other articles like "trans-Karakoram tract" or "Northern Areas" (at the maximum, there is a passing reference in the summary(if this is considered fork) style with redirect links to sub regions). So, i am opposing this high handed move based on ignorance..rather i suggest that those who suggest it as non neutral contribute towards making this neutral, if it is not already neutral..pahari sahib's contention of inflammatory not substantiated both in talk page of pok or otherwise..so DO NOT DELETEKashmircloud (talk) 11:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

if you can improve this article or if you believe that the article can be improved by removing the edit ban(say, exampple: semiprotect) and if you also concur that pok not equal to ajk, please help in saving this article from deleters with nationalistic (pakistani)/ religious(islamist?) motives for POK article removal(example: User:paharisahib is pakistani)..please save the POKarticle... erasing votes for Pakistan occupied Kashmir

Hi, on this page you reached the conclusion that the three accounts appertain to one user and blocked two of them, which is obviously in concordance with Wikipedia policies. Notwithstanding, you have erased all three votes for the preservation of the article - why had not you spared the vote of the originate person (I know, he is guilty for puppeting, but I am asking you, because he is an editor willing to vote, he is undoubtedly not entitled for three votes, but why not for one?) ? Bogorm (talk) 16:55, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

A couple reasons - firstly, I'm not entirely convinced he wasn't a sockpuppet himself. Next, his comment was almost directly copied from another !vote, and so wouldn't have counted for much in the closing anyway. Thirdly, we generally don't count the opinions of blocked users, regardless of the reason they were blocked, as we're generally looking for opinions of editors in good standing (which does not exclude IP editors, since they switch around). Finally, I've just about had it with the disruption on that AfD and related articles, and I want to make it clear it's not going to be tolerated any further. How I got dragged into this mess I'm still not sure, but I'm tired of it and want it to stop. If striking votes is a way to get that point across, they're going to get struck. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:31, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
You may also wanna strike Nangparbat's IP vote. I saw it striked earlier but now it appears not to be. Perhaps he's undone it. Too lazy to check the history as it's moving too fast.  S3000  ☎ 17:35, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
I'll check later on, there's no huge rush. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:36, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
No problems. I suggest semi-protecting the article to stop the mess -once and for all.  S3000  ☎ 17:37, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi

You might be interested in the discussion here. Exploding Boy (talk) 18:23, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not seeing why. Have I been involved with either of these editors before, or are you just looking for some help sorting things out? Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:00, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I just went through the history and thought you'd commented on the situation previously. Perhaps I got my wires crossed. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:04, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
No problem - after checking further, I do remember seeing the original discussion on the signature, but I didn't comment or anything. Looks like you're handing it quite well, so I'll not comment to avoid edit conflicting anyone. Do let me know if you need a hand, though. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:06, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Comparison of school districts in New Jersey

I truly question whether this sort of list article has a place in Wikipedia. It seems to be more or less listcruft to me. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 04:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I hadn't expected him to create a whole new page, but now that he has, I'm going to let him finish and then the content can probably be merged into List of school districts in New Jersey. What he's doing can be useful, and should help the main list out. Having things move or get deleted now is just going to make things a bit difficult. He's a new user, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt and see how things turn out. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:23, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
A merger would be appropriate in principle, or even replacing the existing list article with this, but that's going to be one hefty article. Good luck. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 04:26, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

HI (sorry 'bout the spammy note),

- DYK updates have been a bit slow and there's a bit of a shortage of admins actively involved. We are asking folks who listed themselves on Wikipedia:Did you know/Admins to update details on this page - User:Olaf Davis/DYKadmins, so we can grade everyone's involvement (and who, knows, someone may want to get involved more :) ).Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 04:24, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, I've added myself to the list. I'll try to pop in occasionally to see if it needs updating. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:26, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the Day further help

Hi Hersfold, I was just wondering if we're allowed to move In Review quotes to the decisions section? If it's got obvious support (such as It's the little things you do now, that make the difference later.) and mark it approved pending date selection it would just save you a job! Thanks, &#0149;xytram&#0149;tkcsgy 15:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Of course! Any nomination more than 14 days old or one that's obviously snowballing can be closed by any editor. You can go ahead and schedule any motto you approve on the next available day, or list it at the approved list for scheduling later on. Thanks for the help! Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:00, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Whilst I have writers block in terms of articles I'm really up for helping out with the motd and have a suggestion. At the moment the approved section is empty yet the 'decisions' in nominations is just tagged on the bottom. Would it be worth changing 'approved' to 'decisions' and transcluding that onto the nominations page?
Anyone casual user looking at approved won't see anything! Just an idea... :) &#0149;xytram&#0149;tkcsgy 10:50, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
I have been thinking of doing away with the approved page entirely; right now it doesn't seem to serve much purpose, especially since it involves just as much effort to list a motto there as it does to actually schedule it. I'll suggest it on the talk page and see what people think. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi hf. Hope all is well. I've been playing around in my sandbox and come up with somethings that may be useful to MOTD. I used the WP:AFC templates for assistance on this. See User:Xytram/motd &#0149;xytram&#0149;tkcsgy 12:27, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Those look pretty good - we'd probably need to get some input on those before implementing them, however. Nice work! Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

you might want to reconsider

...the 24-hr block, as 66.243.209.102 (talk · contribs) appears to be another one of Grawp's pathetic cries for attention. Might we extend this loser to indef, per this edit? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:10, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

It wouldn't do the slightest bit of good, even if we did block IP's indefinitely. He hops IP addresses so fast it's hard for us to keep up with him at some times. Within a couple hours, someone else will be on that IP address wondering why they can't edit. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:13, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
How the hell does this ass-clown do that? Actually, never mind - no sense telling peeping vandals how to do that. Let me know via email, if you know. How to put the kibosh on grawp, short of hiring a merc to do something hideous to the stalking vandal? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:15, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I can tell you here anyway, since I don't really know or care to for just that reason. But yes, an ass-clown he is, and since we're making next to no headway with whoever gives him internet access, we've got no immediate way of getting him to stop. However, there are some new tools on the way that should get the software to stop him before he can do any nastiness. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:20, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
You mean, you cannot, right? :) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 05:23, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

kasamh se plot

hi The kasamh se article is locked from editing. please unlock it, as i am trying to edit it. I am a good faith editor.

Honeygirl111 (talk) 23:10, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

What exactly are you trying to do? The article has been protected because several anonymous editors keep re-adding the gigantic plot section I removed according to policy. The talk page would seem to indicate you're going to do the same. Articles can have a plot section, but it shouldn't be more than two or three paragraphs long, since Wikipedia isn't TV Guide or anything even remotely similar. If you can break the plot section down to something of that length, I'll be happy to help you add it in, but I'll not permit the re-adding of the huge one that was in that article a couple days ago. Does that work for you? Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:24, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. It is Honeygirl11 again. Earlier I was trying to add in the whole plot, but I see now that I cannot. I want to just sum up the main parts of Kasamh Se. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Honeygirl111 (talkcontribs)

Ok, then, I've unprotected the page. Please keep it short, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for coming to talk to me about it. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Kshatriya page

Hi, The Kshatriya page is semi-protected. I have tried to contact the admin several times, but there has been no response to open the semi-protection. Can you please open the page for edits?

Thanks Hersfold! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.230.38.115 (talkcontribs)

I've unprotected the page mainly because no expiry date was set and it's been about a week now. However, please keep an eye on the edit warring, and if you get reverted, stop editing and discuss things on the talk page, and wait to edit the article until there's a consensus. If problems continue, the page may be reprotected. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:14, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

86 IP nuisance

can you semiprotect Pakist. admin. kashmir page to avoid vandalism by an anonymous 86 ip vandal..this dynamic ip vandal was previously banned as user: Nangparbat [9]..i am posting this message here because you WERE monitoring that guy..Kashmircloud (talk) 21:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

"Monitoring," as in I'm blocking any incarnation of him as they get reported to me. I'm not actively watching any of the articles he frequents, as I really have no interest in those subjects, mainly due to the gobs of drama they produce. I'm not going to semi protect the article, however I have blocked all the IP addresses involved in recent edits for a week. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:01, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Apology

Please accept my sincere apology for edit warring on Extinct Kannada literature. As you can see on my user page, user:Fowler&fowler, it is not even remotely something I work on. However, I had been involved in a long RfC on Talk:Kannada literature page and we had all decided that we would not edit either Kannada literature or its related pages Extinct Kannada literature and Halmidi inscription, but rather let the arbitrator user:Abecedare come up with a choice of wording for the disputed paragraphs. (See for example user:Dineshkannambadi's edit here.) So I was surprised to discover a few days ago that both user:Dineshkannambadi and user:Sarvagnya started editing all three pages without and discussion on the talk pages. Regardless, I agree that I should not have been edit-warring. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:52, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

It's fine. Thank you for acknowledging what you did and being willing to improve upon it - most edit warring blocks turn into shouting contests between the blockee and administrators which get nowhere except for raising everyone's tempers. I do admit I was surprised to see you unblocked so early, but after reading your unblock message, I agree with it. Thanks again, and happy editing in the future. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:20, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually sir, this user who appears so well mannered on your talk page has a history of edit warring with the Karnataka work group in general. He mentions a RFC but does not bother to add what happened in the RFC. He had to bow out of the Rfc he started, with an apology to me, for trying to pin an allegation of "false citation" on to me. A communication he had had with another user, user:Aadal, and which was brought to light in the nick of time by another user showed that Fowler may have started the RFC with the intent of preventing the Kannada literature from going back to FAC (which had at that time failed its first nomination by me, the original author of the article). All this detail is in the RFC, somewhere in the bottom. When Fowler bowed out of the RFc, he had promised the mediator, Abecedare, that he would not come back to any article related to Kannada language, but as expected, he did. His intent towards Karnataka and Kannada language related articles goes even further back, when he had to exit another FAC of mine, with an "abstain" vote, after it became apparent that his original "objections" in the article FAC were not in the right spirit. This user needs to be watched carefully, and I hope you do that.thanks,Dineshkannambadi (talk) 01:21, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't especially care. If you have a problem with Fowler, my talk page is not the place to discuss it. I am not a part of dispute resolution, so I suggest you head back to that page and pick up where you left off if you still have issues with him. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:27, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
You are right.thanks, Dineshkannambadi (talk) 01:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, his IP range is widely shared by most of the United Kingdom, and as you've seen he hops around rather a lot. A rangeblock wouldn't do much good and would block many innocent users. I'll block all the recently active IP addresses, but I'm afraid that's all I can do aside from semi-protect your user talk page if you'd like. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:37, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
thanks for your prompt response..regarding undoing your edit, WHY WOULD I DO THAT!! i am bugged by anonymous vandals..he will return in some other form soon..i am pleased by your willingness to protect my talk page..so please do semi-protect my user talk page for atleast 1 month!!!..thanks in advance..Cityvalyu (talk)

Just blocked him. Apparently he intends to file a report about my "abuse", and had the courtesy to inform me on my talk page. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:00, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
semiprotect- blocking is inefficient since he hops: now he has shifted to the 86.ip series..but his narrow range of edits focussed on pakistan kashmir and anti india slant means he is the same old guy in a new avatar..see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.153.129.194
semiprotect those articles for atleast one week besides protecting the talk pages of me / anyone who reverts his vandalism (example: user:nichalp (if he prefers so))..Cityvalyu (talk) 20:02, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Nichalp can do that himself if he wants, he's also an admin. I will be semi-protecting the articles he's being extremely disruptive on, however. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
thanks ..again amazed by your promptness..Cityvalyu (talk) 20:05, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

<reindent>Semi-protection is needed for those pages to prevent any further conflict. I wont protect my talk page, would prefer to talk to the IP if he chooses to discuss. I guess he is misguided and unaware of NPOV policies and the great PoK deletion dance last week. =Nichalp «Talk»= 20:11, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome to try, but attempts have been made to talk with him before. Unfortunately, his IP hopping makes it very difficult to hold a discussion in one place. I'm filing a report on ANI requesting review of my actions - I've semi-protected three articles so far and will be keeping an eye on RC for any more abuse. I've taken a look at the IP addresses you're using, and they shouldn't be switching anywhere near as often as they are. You're doing something to force them to switch, and in any event, asking you to stop once should have been enough. You are not welcome on this talk page. The only reason I am not blocking you again is so that Nichalp can have a chance to talk with you. Post on his talk page. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:31, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Dammage

Hi your obviously a very good wikipedia moderator but i just wondered why my page dammage got deleted when it was about my friends band?

thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by lfcaron8 (talkcontribs)

It was deleted because your friend's band isn't what we consider to be notable. In order for an article to be written about someone, we require that there be at least two reliable, third-party sources to verify any information added, and/or they meet one of the criteria listed at WP:MUSIC (and whatever fact allows them to meet that is similarly backed up with a source). Another way to look at it is, would you be likely to find your friend's band in the Encyclopedia Brittanica? If the answer is no, they probably don't belong here either. Take a look though the pages I linked here, and they should answer most of your questions. If you still have some, though, please feel free to let me know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:16, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Hiya mate. I didn't intend to tag for speedy deletion. I didn't realise twinkle doesnt give you the are you sure option when you select an option for speedy. I soon noticed that the article probably should have been PROD'd instead. Do you agree? Seddσn talk Editor Review 21:18, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Eh - it was pretty darn close to an A1. If anyone objects to it, I'll treat it as a PROD and restore it - same deal if the author recreates it. But yeah, do be careful with Twinkle, because it assumes you click the correct option the first time. I screwed up more than one nomination before I was allowed to just delete them. Thanks for letting me know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:22, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

i have a doubt ..please check

Please have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/86.156.214.251 this is very similar to banned nangparbat.

He either constantly tampers with Kashmir related articles or he seems to incite other users (example:PAHARISAHIB) to repeat their make unilateral unbalanced edits (making them puppets to his opinion)..Both are not respecting consensus "status quo" and constantly try to reinsert their (unbalanced) point of view..i am unable to stop them..so, i am requesting you to please check both of them..Kashmircloud (talk) 23:04, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

They are not unbalanced (how about a diff?). I am no-ones puppet, what are you trying to imply? I know that the 117 ips are yours (e.g. 117.193.129.137 and 117.193.32.151) Pahari Sahib 23:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
If you both wouldn't mind, I am trying to separate myself from this now, as I think I've gone a little overboard in a few cases, and I am getting tired of having my talk page being turned into a shouting contest between people. If you have evidence to support your claims of sockpuppetry, please try to discuss with the other user or file a report at WP:SSP. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

That's sort of what this is, a project to take our existing policies and hack them down, counting on the experience of editors to know what is important enough to keep, what can be reworded, and what is redundant and can be removed. If that's not quite what you're aiming for, then I'm not certain what you're getting at. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:16, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Unblock Request

Sorry to trouble you, but can you just clarify the outcome of my unblock request as the DENY outcome doesn't seem to correlate with your message, although I may be misinterpreting it? I appreciate that I'm not in effect asking for the IP block to be lifted, so the outcome I guess should be deny, as long as logged in users can continue to contribute. I'm operating from a different location at this time so I can't say whether it works or not. Thanks Thedarxide (talk) 17:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

No problem - the reason I "declined" it was because it seemed the block wasn't affecting you any more. Since autoblocks are placed by the software to prevent blocked users from circumventing their blocks, I'd rather not remove it unless it's necessary. As far as I know, you're the only one who has expressed difficulty editing due to that autoblock. If you go back to your earlier location and the autoblock is affecting you again, we can remove it at that time. Theoretically the thing should expire in 24 hours anyway, provided that user doesn't keep logging in, so it will probably lift itself eventually. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:28, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Protecting CSD templates

I noticed you've gone and protected a whole bunch of CSD templates. While I agree that they likely don't need to be randomly edited, previous attempts have been removed citing "previous consensus". So, I'm just letting you what's happened previously in this. Cheers. lifebaka++ 19:14, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

I know. I discussed it on IRC before doing it (since MZMcBride has previously been the one pointing out the old consensus), and was shown to some WT:CSD archive. I really don't see how that discussion made any sense, though, and it wasn't really clear that any consensus had been made there. I'm going to just be bold and protect them all, and hope that we can get a change in "consensus" if anyone doesn't like it. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:17, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
P.S. - This is not a "per IRC" action; most everyone I spoke to had no particularly strong opinions on this. It's all my own doing. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:17, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd like to register my disagreement with preemptive protection in general and these actions in particular. Little edits always need to be made now and then. Haukur (talk) 21:03, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
I know - I made one such little edit just today: [13]. However, I feel that most editors don't have much need to edit these, and the sparse history indicates that not even administrators have much need to edit these on a regular basis. Other deletion templates, including prod, dated prod, and afd, are all fully protected and have been for some years. It makes little sense to hold speedy deletion templates to a different standard, when often they can be just as controversial.
That's just why I did it - if you'd like, I'm open to discussing this on a more open forum such as WP:AN. But I'd rather not undo it unless there is a clearly established consensus to do so. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:12, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
You protected a lot of templates that have never been vandalized. And I don't think the risk from vandalism is really particularly high even if some were to occur - those templates are mostly found on pages that are very poor and about to be deleted. Subtle vandalism of the afd or prod templates would be potentially hard to clean up since these templates are substed. That's not the case with the speedy templates. I just don't think it's obvious that they should be "held to the same standard", to borrow your wording. Haukur (talk) 22:23, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
I'll open a post on AN about this then; I think there is a case for full protection, and I think we'd be remiss not to at least have move protection up, especially with certain page-move vandals running around. I'll let you know when it's posted. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:29, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. Haukur (talk) 22:51, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

I was going to let this go but I feel the last two comments at AN maybe tilted the discussion in favor of undoing the protection. What do you think? Haukur (talk) 19:31, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

On the town reference in MOTTO

Actually i am, glad you rejected my motto for Wikipedia, Wikipedia...

Earlier in the year, the motto noms and days were getting pretty close together like they do and i did something i probably shouldn't, but what's done is done, in that i added the motto which had a low consensus, but altered the links after. Now i'm feeling guilty if that goes up again. Simply south (talk) 20:01, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank You!

Hello Hersfold, this is Survir. I really appreciate that you took out your time to take a look at the bad content of an Indian television serial page Kasamh Se. Thank you for your help. Now I totally agree with you that the plot section should not be that large. Believe me I tried to fix the plots of many of the television series, but I guess some people have too much time to just write everything they see in each of the episodes. That is why I believe that we should leave the original plot or tie into the original plot as the story progresses. Oh well, I did try to fix the content to save some space in the page of Kasamh Se, but I feel bad when I come back the next day and it is destroyed. Anyway, thank you for your help. Your new wiki friend Survir (talk) 20:57, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

The plot can certainly be updated as needed - this is a wiki, after all - but it should stay within the length of a paragraph or two according to WP:PLOT, focusing on the main premise of the series and not on minute details. In reality, I don't care too much what is in the plot summary, I just don't want to see it explode into a raging monster like it was previously. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:32, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

thank you very much. see you next time. MakesintoJp (talk) 04:47, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

It just needs to be cleaned up a bit and copyedited, is all. The length looks fine, and I can't really speak to the content any, not having ever seen this. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Just a small clarification to the timeline.

  • The subpage was made at 02:58, September 20, 2008 (UTC) by MBisanz. Half of the subpage was moved back here by User:Rx StrangeLove at 13:35, 20 September 2008 (UTC) -12 1/2 hours later. The other half was moved back at 16:01, September 20, 2008 (UTC) by JayHank - 2 1/2 hours after RxS.

I was just trying to keep the conversation in one place, and only followed RxS because he posted a rationale for his move, but I couldn't find one from MBisanz, though I assume it was just general concern about length and volume of posts. --JayHenry (talk) 18:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Ohh, ok. Thanks for that, please feel free to correct me on ANI. Yes, the main reason for the move to the subpage was the length - it was getting next to impossible to post anywhere on ANI for the edit conflicts. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:09, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Men's Fiction, aka Lad Lit

Hi Hersfold,

Wondering why you deleted the Men's Fiction page, otherwise known as Lad Lit. Any reason? It was short but a good start. I'm keen on restoring it. Any reason why I shouldn't?

Eugenepr (talk) 22:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC) Thanks, -eugenepr

I'm not entirely sure what page you're referring to, as I don't recall deleting such a page and your only contribution to the site has been to my talk page. There is a Lad lit which was deleted through a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lad lit, so I'd suggest you read that. I wasn't involved with that in any way, however. Socks

I'm trying to get more familiar with socking (and am developing a headache as I attempt to learn what gets reported where and when). I noticed you blocked Ear Witt as one of the many socks of Tile join. I spotted him apparently using the accounts Er Witt[14] and Err Witt [15]. Neither account is blocked as of the time of this message - telling you is obviously one way to make sure an admin sees them, but otherwise where would have been the correct place to report a non-blocked account of a prolific banned sockpuppeteer? ANI? Guidance for the future appreciated - thanks in advance. Karenjc 09:08, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Blatant sockpuppets like these can generally be reported at WP:AIV for immediate blocking. This is limited to obvious similarities in name like with Tile join/Eir Witt here, or two accounts doing the exact same thing one after the other that have done nothing else. If it's not blatantly obvious, but you suspect there may be a relation between two accounts, you should file a report at WP:SSP for further investigation. In certain very specific cases, a request for checkuser can be filed, however this is generally done as a last resort only and they require some strong evidence that the CU tool is in fact needed. ANI generally should not be used for sockpuppet cases, as that tends to up the drama level significantly as the accused sockpuppeter finds out and goes ballistic in front if everyone. Filing through one of the pages I've listed provides us with an easy page to reference to when making the block. I have blocked the two accounts you just named, by the way. Popular Sovereignty

Hi The article on Popular Sovereignty looks like it has been vandalized. Being new to wikihow, I am not sure on how to handle this. Would you mind explaining to me?

Honeygirl111 (talk) 15:36, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

It looks like it's been fixed already. In the future, you can revert such edits yourself - that link explains several ways how to do so. You can also use some other tools, such as navigational popups, Twinkle (or TW), VandalProof (or VP), and Huggle (or HG), among others. Each of those pages explains how to get these tools and how to use them. Hope this helps. Hersfold (t/a/c) 19:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't see any other bad things the user has done, but it is possible that the user did vandalize more around wikipedia. Sorry I could not help you with this. I am new to wikipedia and am learning my way around.

Hey

I know that you think my the fandango page is just a bunch of garbage, but at least let me finish it. And if you have any advice on how to make it look better, cause there is a basis for this story. The legends of the Michigan Dogman and Wisconsin Werewolves give credit to this legend. The Ottawa people of Michigan and the other tribes that share the lands of Wisconsin and Michigan, like the Winnebago (the Ho Chunk people who told us this legend are a section of this tribe), Sauk, Fox, Black Hawk, and so on. This is an actual legend. The Natives told the settlers of a Spirit that wandered the woods and made people vanish. So if you're gonna delete it, fine. Go ahead and delete it. But at least let me finish my little project. thanks CampMythmaker (talk) 06:46, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

At this point it's not up to me if it gets deleted or not - it's determined by community consensus. If you can substantially improve the article according to our guidelines (which include, but are not limited to, notability, original research, reliable sources, and verifiability) then you may be able to convince the community to keep the article. Right now, however, it violates several policies, specifically the ones I named, and should be deleted. If you have any more questions, please let me know. The discussion will end on September 28th, at which time another administrator (not myself or anyone who has commented in the discussion already) will close it and determine what the consensus was. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people who died before the age of 30 (2nd nomination)

It appears obvious now that the page List of people who died before the age of 30 is headed to deletion. I support its deletion myself. But this has given me an idea. Do you think it would make sense to have a set of categories called "Age x deaths," all in a parent category called "Deaths by age?" That seems like a better idea. This way, there would be no worry where to draw the line as to what age is "significant" as an age of death, and all ages people live to can possibly be included. There would be no need for one person to create all these categories in one day - they could be built gradually over time. We already have categories like 1949 deaths. Why can't we do the same with age? Sebwite (talk) 22:31, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

That's possible, I think, and we should be able to set up infoboxes to handle it automatically with age. Good idea! Hersfold (t/a/c) 23:26, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Just letting you know, I have started creating a series of categories Category:Deaths at age x, which can be found in Category:Deaths by age. These categories are far from complete and are still being built. Along with the category, I started a policy page titled Wikipedia:Death by age. You may be interested in giving your input on the new categories at Wikipedia talk:Death by age. Sebwite (talk) 20:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Frogger's sub-pages

I'm sure you remember this user, the one that was making grawp-like edits. Anyway, since I couldn't figure out what to classify it under CSD, I created an MfD here. Also, watch out for test11, it has a major drain on your computer if you scroll any farther down. Besides all that, I'm telling you of this hoping you will either tell me I did the right thing, or delete the pages, as I don't really think a discussion on them is necessary, and the user previously asked them to be deleted.— dαlus Contribs /Improve 05:22, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

I think he did actually request deletion of them, so they all qualify for speedy deletion under CSD U1. I'll close the MfD and work on nuking all of them. Hersfold (t/a/c) 16:18, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Bosses in The Legend of Zelda series

Could you please copy the latest version of the page to my userspace?

Also, could you clarify something for me? I was under the impression that AfD debates were supposed to be closed according to the rationale that had been demonstrated and had the best reasoning, not under the reasoning that was simply parroted over and over, and demonstrably false. Is this incorrect, and AfD discussions are back to being VfD's?

Please understand, I am not in disagreement with the deletion - while there was some real-world context there, it was dwarfed by the rest of the article. I am, however, in disagreement with the consistent and fallacious application of the "gameguide" moniker, which me, Artichoker, and the other regular editors have spent the last two or so years studiously keeping out of the article. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 13:52, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

I'll restore the last few version of the article (not the whole thing, as I'd kill the Wiki) and move it to a subpage, probably User:KrytenKoro/Zelda. Please be aware that per WP:USER, you are expected to actively work on this article while it is in your userspace or it may be deleted under WP:CSD#G4.
Closing AfD's is a tricky business. In general, consensus goes the same way as the majority, as was the case here. Simply counting votes, there were almost twice as many opinions to delete as there were to do anything else. Of course, we try not to do that if at all possible, so we do read through the arguments. Invalid or nonsensical arguments are often thrown out or considered less important than other things (for example, the comment by the IP address "Keep article as encyclopedic, but delete this discussion as AfDcruft" I completely ignored as nonsensical and ill-informed). In cases where an invalid argument is parroted repeatedly, consensus will then sometimes be determined opposite the apparent majority, and we'll also consider doing a sockpuppet investigation later on. In cases such as this when it's a valid argument being repeated (such as "gamecruft", WP:NOT, lack of WP:RS, lack of encyclopedic content, etc.) we still give those arguments the weight they deserve. A well-written argument that is more than simply "per nom/User X" shows that users did take the time to actually look at the article and come up with their own conclusion. I also try to read the sub-discussions that take place to see if the arguments presented by both sides hold up under debate. Except in very obviously snowballing discussions, I'll also take a look at the article to see if any of the arguments have merit. When I looked, it definitely seemed to me that the "game guide" or "game cruft" label was appropriate. There was a one-paragraph section on critical reception of the bosses, and the remaining 95% of the article was completely dedicated to fictional content, referenced to unreliable guides and non-third-party sources. I realize your argument is that there was nothing in the article about how to beat the bosses, which is good, however having an overly detailed storyline or plot "summary" is also explicitly mentioned as inappropriate for Wikipedia in WP:PLOT.
So in short, yes, we do accept arguments that are repeated again and again so long as they remain valid and appear to be well-researched. In this discussion, the better arguments seemed to be in favor of deleting the article, citing several different policies and guidelines. I'm more than welcome to answer any more questions you may have, but I hope this has explained most of your concerns. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Like I said, I agree that the article was in massive trouble, and needed to be deleted until it can be more properly rewritten. What I was trying to get across throughout the discussion, though, was that the article had absolutely no gameguide in it, and the flippant "Oh, it's referring to something in a video game, let's just slap the gameguide tag on it and delete it" attitude that pervade VG AfD discussions was not appropriate. I've seen it throughout the AfD's on the VG articles I work on, and in 90% of cases, it is not at all applicable, and just indicative of laziness on the part of the commenter. That is exactly what I was trying to communicate, and instead this was constantly perverted to mean "Oh, you're saying there's no problem with the article", which was not at all what I had said, ever. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 19:05, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Australian Institute of Project Management

Hello Hersfold!

I guess you get through a lot of these things on a daily basis - understanding that the wiki is mindful of ensuring both verifiable and notable content is displayed, would it be possible to undelete this page to allow me to include some material that would satisfy A7; given i'd been only working on the page for less than 20 minutes and i'm a wiki newcomer, that didn't give me much of a chance for more information.

On that i'm fairly sure the Institute is worth some factual note in the wiki, especially given the wide range of other pages from similar organisations with many self referenced citations for their existence [PMI, IPMA, for example].

I note 'bit of an ad' is a fair call for a range of these organisational A7 type pages - is there an example of an A7 satisfactory page you could point out for reference?

Your advice or consideration would be much appreciated.Aipm (talk) 04:49, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I'd rather not point you to another article for reference, as that tends to be somewhat misleading in many cases. I can direct you to the relevant policies that you would need to help write the article, including WP:CORP (the notability guideline for businesses), WP:RS (the guideline on reliable sources, which you need), WP:NPOV (our policy on neutrality), WP:COI (our guideline on editing with a conflict of interest). I included that last link as I notice from your username that it seems you have some sort of affiliation with this group. Since we do try to keep things as neutral as possible, I do ask that you please leave the writing of this article to someone else. Even if you don't intend to do so, it's very likely that you could introduce some sort of bias to the article because of your involvement with them. It's also possible your efforts may be seen as promotional, something which is not permitted on Wikipedia.
I know this is a lot to throw at you all at once, however if you have any questions, feel free to post at the new contributor's help page, or you can add the template helpme to your talk page along with your question. In the meantime, I will restore the last few revisions of the article to User:Aipm/Article for you to work on. However, I do again ask that you consider your conflict of interest and see about getting someone to assist you with this project. Welcome to Wikipedia. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, Hersfold for the advice and the action. I appreciate very much the restoration of the file into a local area. I believe I have a significant level of reading, and a bit of writing to do. You are correct that I have a COI and am in a very difficult position when it comes to promotional material as I am the Librarian for the Institute. There's a very difficult line to tread regarding bias, implicit or explicit. i'd rather conduct things, like including information about the institute in the wikipedia, in a transparent fashion. Thank you for the welcome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aipm (talkcontribs)

Deletion of Jail Weddings

Hello! I know the reason for the Jail Weddings page I recently created was that the significance or importance was not mentioned; I tried to recreate some parts to clearly indicate what I, and many others, find incredibly important and significant in this band. They have been written up and praised in all of L.A.'s papers -- LA Weekly, LA Times, LA Record, etc. Their live shows consistently draw a large audience. They are creating music that few others are attempting to make -- a modern and talented take on the girl groups (and their corresponding studio musicians) of the '60s. On the page, I referenced quite a number of relevant and well-known bands with whom Jail Weddings has shared the stage. I also included links to quite a few of the online reviews the band has received. This is certainly not an amateur-level band! If there are any other pieces of information that would render this page acceptable, please let me know! Thanks for your time. Cheagle28 (talk) 05:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I deleted the page both times because it didn't seem to meet, or come close to meeting, WP:MUSIC, our notability guideline for bands. All content in Wikipedia must meet a notability guideline in order to justify their inclusion. In this way, we're not flooded with articles about random people, their pets, etc. The article also was written in a somewhat promotional tone, something else we do not permit on Wikipedia. We try to encourage all of our articles to keep a neutral point of view so that the information we have can be shared as fairly and as clearly as possible.
I'm still not entirely convinced this meets notability guidelines, as very few if any of your sources appear to be reliable - most of them are blog posts, interviews, or event calendars, none of which can be used to establish notability. You need multiple sources that have non-trivial (more than a passing mention) unsolicited (not a press release or interview) from a third-party source (something that is not related to the band or Wikipedia).
If you'd like, I can restore the last version of the article and send it to articles for deletion for a full-length discussion involving multiple users over a period of about five days, but I'm fairly certain it will be deleted there as well. If you want me to do that, let me know, but first please review the policies and guidelines I've linked to above and try to review what you wrote from someone who knows nothing about the band. If you have any more questions, drop me a line. Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:39, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I've closely read the guidelines for Wikipedia articles, and I'm certain the press I referenced does meet those criteria. I included none of the personal blogs I've read about the band, only those published by well-known newspapers, like the LA Weekly and the OC Weekly. None of the references are mere event calendar listings; they are all show preview articles that the music writers of those magazines chose to present. I'm certain that no press was solicited by the band; all interviews, reviews, and previews were, in fact, requested and/or initiated by music writers/editors in the Los Angeles area who heard about the band and their live performances.

Furthermore, the Wikipedia articles referenced that discuss the band members' previous or other projects all cover bands that do not approach the significance and importance of this band. I discovered, through Google's "cached" feature (love that thing!) the first attempt at a Wikipedia article on Jail Weddings, and the reasons for its deletion; although I was in no way party to that submission, it did inspire me to author my own contribution that would be completely information-based, with references to important bands, press, and recording studios and record labels that have sought out relationships with Jail Weddings.

For these reasons, I would like this article to be included in the full-length discussion you mentioned. Again, thank you for your time!69.230.61.12 (talk) 18:35, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Adoption Center

Hey, would it be OK if I used your lessons in my adoption program? I would really appreciate it. You will be credited accordingly, thanks —— RyanLupin(talk) 12:12, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Of course; you're not the first to ask. :-) Feel free, just be aware that some of them are written from my point of view, so might need a little bit of copyediting to fit into your program well. If you see any mistakes or anything, let me know! Hersfold (t/a/c) 15:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Tom Sayle

Hello, sir. Regarding this edit you made to my talk page, I would like you to check my new request with more information. This is an IP editing, but trust me it is me. Thomas Michael William Patrick Sales 17:47, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Then post a new unblock request. Read the header at the top of this page; I will not review unblock requests from people who are deliberately evading their block. Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:54, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Don't protect, a block would probably suffice.--Tznkai (talk) 02:52, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm on IRC, you know. ;-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:52, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Emm Random Signature

I noticed your signature and was wondering how you get it like that. I've looke at the signature pages but they've practically know info about how to change font and colour. OgiBeaR (talk) 20:10, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

It's a combination of a few <em> tags and a bunch of s. Remember, in order to set a custom appearance like this, you'll have to check the "Raw Signature" box in your preferences to make the code display correctly. You're welcome to take a look at the code, just as long as you don't copy this exactly (my signature is rather distinctive and I'd prefer it stay that way); here it is:

<em style="font-family:Bradley Hand ITC;color:blue">Hers</em><em style="font-family:Bradley Hand ITC;color:gold">fold</em> (t/a/c)

Let me know if you have any questions. Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:47, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Emm my only question is if there's a page with a list of fonts and colours? if there isn't i'll just try out my favourite ones OgiBeaR (talk) 15:49, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
The fonts are the same of those on your computer - just fire up Microsoft Word or whatever for a list and how they display. If the font you choose isn't on someone's computer, their browser will find a similar replacement. Do try to choose one that's mostly legible, though. As for colors, you can use basic names like blue, red, etc., or you can use a hexadecimal code like #FFFFFF (which is white, don't use that). This page has a decent listing of the more common codes and their names. Hersfold (t/a/c) 17:20, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks your userpage thing that says whether you online or not is kool. But if you wana keep that 1 trademark it's fine lol. Its really koolOgiBeaR (talk) 17:23, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Coat of Arms Image Removal

Hi there. You were kind enough to respond to a help me on my talk page regarding coat of arms image removal. You quoted WP:NFCC but I think this is a shorter, better explanation. FYI I guess :-D Cheers. ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 04:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

True, I suppose it is. The full policy is something everyone should know, though, as it is probably one of the most important things on the project, as it's pretty much the one thing you can't apply WP:IAR to. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:01, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

If you think it's a speedy, I trust your judgment. I didn't actually realise it was an admin who had tagged it when I declined it last night. I think the awards are enough to avoid a speedy but I haven't been able to source anything beyond press releases and as a uni newspaper it's probably not notable enough to pass AfD. If I couldn't find anything by the end of today I was going to PROD. YOur call if you want to re delete. TravellingCari 18:40, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

If you're trying to work on it, then I'll leave it there. I just happened to come across an autoblock for the author and saw the deletion warning on his talk page. PROD is probably best for this, if it has won some form of possibly notable award. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:42, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm going to see if anything can be done, it may be beyond help. If I don't figure it out before I leave the office, I'll PROD. TravellingCari 19:12, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

PRODed. Have a good evening TravellingCari 21:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
