I spent 1.5 hours working on my Step-Mother's page and it was wiped out with your editing. I would have caught the 34 when I reviewed it. It took me months to bring myself to work on this... please... let me finish with out editing me out again. Thank you! TJayJ — Preceding unsigned comment added by TJayJ (talkcontribs) 05:23, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello @TJayJ: and welcome to Wikipedia. Since you have a clear WP:COI please a) declare it on your userpage and b) make Wikipedia:Edit Requests on the WP:talk page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:40, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Regarding Liam Gallagher edit

Hickory, I am curious as to why you had my edit removed from Liam Gallagher's wiki as he clearly has stated this memorable occasion many times as documented via his music and the "Supersonic" documentary.

Thanks, Ichbin — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ichbin28 (talkcontribs) 03:18, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

@Ichbin28: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. In order to add content to Wikipedia it must be verifiable and taken from a relibable source. You added this content in front of this source which did not back up the quote. If you want to re-add it please cite it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:29, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Aja West Wikipedia page

I am the parent of Aja West and attempting to help this artist update his page which is very out of date as to his albums and other reference material. He is dealing with a chronic illness right now and it's difficult for him to do this. Please advise who is able to make updates and how I can get the authority to help him with the update. Lcheev (talk) 21:36, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

@Lcheev: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. First of all, neither Aja West nor yourself should be updating this page so you can take the pressure off. Please read over the links I posted on your talk page about handling your conflict of interest. The first step would be disclosing it on your user page and on the articles WP:talk page. Follow the steps I posted on your talk page and you can ask more questions here, at the WP:HELPDESK or the WP:TEAHOUSE where more editors can assist you. Hi, I tried to add information to the "nanette" page. IDK how to enact this change w/o your permission. Clearly you need to sign off on my contribution. Here's the source: www.nanettehilton.com

Thanks.

  • People who don't have a Wikipedia article don't get listed on such pages. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 00:51, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't need to sign off on anything but you do need to only add people who have Wikipedia pages to the disambiguous Nanette page. Please read the information I provided on your talk page. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:52, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

How do I create a separate page to validate my original edit to the "Nanette" page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:1A80:586:988:D7BC:D935:190B (talk) 01:28, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

If you believe this person passes our notability requirements then you can create a draft by following WP:YFA. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:36, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Aleshia Brevard's page.

Hello, I was editing Aleshia's page. She and I had deep relationship over the last 14 years of her life, and she often referred to me as 'her daughter'. I designed and built her website, wrote the intro to her second memoir, along with designing its cover and taking the photo of her on the back cover (which was in my apartment). There are many pictures of Aleshia and me on the internet (Aleshia Brevard, Gina Grahame)

I was updating certain dates, expanding on her work and her later life.

I'm new to Wikipedia (still trying to get an account), and apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you,

Gina — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:4100:9E10:FC72:6744:5812:A955 (talk) 00:08, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello Gina and welcome to Wikipedia. We instruct those who have a conflict of interest, as you admit here, to not directly edit the article. Instead make WP:Edit requests on the WP:talk page. The content you added was absolutely not appropriate for Wikipedia. While it may be accurate, it was unsourced and writing like this: "Aleshia was an avid gardener, with the greenest of thumbs. Aleshia grew flowers and vegetables of all kinds, and delighted in sharing them with those closest to her" is considered puff and not neutral. If you were to make edit requests then please write in a neutral tone and use reliable sources. I will add more information on your talk page.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 00:11, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I do not understand how first hand accounting is considered a conflict of interest and somehow less worthy than hearsay. Aside from the purely factual (where she went to school, where she taught, why she retired, the depth of her relationship with Charlotte and Kathy, information about who and when she married, the extent of her creative achievements and Later Life activities), I also removed mention of her breast implants from the Education section, and removed 'stripper' from the article as her act was actually burlesque. Too much has been wrongly written about Aleshia from people who either didn't know her or had their words taken out of context - including the obituary in SFGate. If accuracy is the end result, I would be happy to collaborate with you or anyone else. Thank you.

It isn't your first hand knowledge that causes a COI (although it is part of it). It is that you have a personal connection with the article subject that can cause you to write in a not neutral manner. As with the example before, writing about her gardening is fine if it can be sourced but using words like "with the greenest of thumbs" is more for a puff piece than a Wikipedia article. However, there is a problem with using first hand knowledge which is that it isn't verifiable. Everything on Wikipedia needs to be able to be verified by other people to make sure it is accurate. This is why first hand knowledge or original research is not allowed on Wikipedia. It not only helps readers and researchers but the article subject as well. If first hand knowledge or hearsay was allowed that could cause lots of problems as no one will know which is true. You are more than welcome to make edit requests on the talk page but just know it likely won't be added unless it has a relibale source, like a third party newspaper with no connection to the subject. Thank you though for removing unsourced and inaccurate content. I suggest you read other articles first and see how they are formatted and written before making suggestions. This is recomended to everyone even if they do not have a conflict of interest because writing in an encyclopedic tone takes practice. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:46, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Nina Mercedes COI

Nina Mercedes has left that life behind her she is a mother of 4 boys. We are trying to remove content that is disparaging and destructive to her present and future endeavors I appreciate any insight that you can please give me on this thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theleadeditor101 (talkcontribs) 04:09, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

@Theleadeditor101: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. You have a direct conflict of interest with this subject so you should not edit their page directly (yes, I can see you deleted the word "we"). Wikipedia is not censored and sourced, neutrally worded material is kept in articles. Her being a porn star was a major part of her life, this is not going to be removed simply because the subject doesn't like it. Please understand the article subject does not own the article. You should make WP:edit requests on the wp:talk page and declare your conflict of interest on your user page. I suggest also reading Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help after reading our conflict of interest policy page. If you continue to remove content from her page, which is becoming disruptive by the way, you may be blocked. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:16, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

my edit on Semuc Champey page

Hello there. I am replying to your message

I did the edit on Semuc Champey page on the basis of my experience as I just went there. The information I wrote about the morphology were written in the park from the park people which is the most reliable source and the transportation is what I know from my experience. Is it enough? Also I wanted to link to my article where I explain all of it (https://www.boundlessroads.com/how-to-visit-semuc-champey/) . Is it good enough as a source? thanks a lot for your help. I am new to this. I would like to do it properly. cheers

Isabella (BoundlessRoads) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boundlessroads (talkcontribs) 15:32, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

@Boundlessroads: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. On Wikipedia we have guidelines for what is considered reliable. Unfortunately, park people are not considered reliable because there is no way for other people to fact check them and verify the information. This would be considered original research. Everything on Wikipedia needs to be able to be verifiable. Unfortunately, your personal blog is not considered reliable because there is no oversight. See WP:RSSELF for more information on that. If you can find a third party newspaper or website that backs up your claims, which shouldn't be that hard, then feel free to re-add it. I am also going to drop a welcome message on your page with more information on how to navigate Wikipedia. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello OK I understand, however, I still believe the park managers are the most reliable sources than any others, especially a newspaper or random websites. How do you know that any other website is more reliable than my blog, since I have personally and empirically checked the information myself with the original source? I am not trying to be difficult. I am just trying to understand the logic. thanks for clarifying cheers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boundlessroads (talkcontribs) 00:08, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

@Boundlessroads: Hello again. I have absolutely no problem clarifying what I meant. Once again, this information needs to be verifiable so someone like me (who is in Toronto) can check to make sure the information is correct. I cannot talk to these park managers but I can likely access newspapers and websites that fact check this information. This is not to say you are not reliable but only you, or one or two other people, see the information before it gets posted (again see WP:RSSELF). You are not bound by the same requirements as say a global newspaper is, whose articles go through many fact checks and seasoned editors before it gets printed. This is all laid out in our relibale source and verifiability policy. If you don't feel I am explaining it well enough feel free to ask at the WP:TEAHOUSE where many different editors can explain this maybe in more detail than I am. Lakki Block Edit to KPOGCL page

Dear HickoryOughtShirt,

Hope you will be fine and doing well.

You have removed my edit of Lakki block to kpogcl page commenting that it is copy write. I may remind you that it is renowned Daily newspaper in Pakistan as "Dawn News". I have also mention the news link.

Kindly redo the deleted edit. I will be thankful.

Pizza

You left a comment saying you reverted the note that the Pizza is no longer served at the Ohio location. Note that I am from Ohio. Please click on the link in the article that takes you to Pomeroy Ohio's page. You will note there is already a comment left there with the information you want. Additionally, you may want to consider checking the Daily Mail article that was being cited as the reference for the Pomeroy location still selling the pizza. The Daily Mail are referring to McDonald's announcement that the pizza was finally going to be completely discontinued. If you check with McDonald's they can confirm for you that this food item is now completely discontinued. 2602:306:311F:13B0:60D9:DB5E:FD2F:9F7F (talk) 17:32, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. If you read WP:BURDEN, the burden is on you to provide a source for the content you add. Feel free to re-add your information to the article with a reliable source.HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:34, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't know how. If you care enough to interrupt me and undo the change I would think you would care enough not to tell me off. Trust us when we tell you we don't serve pizza at our location anymore. 2602:306:311F:13B0:60D9:DB5E:FD2F:9F7F (talk) 17:57, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
I cannot just trust your word per our original research and verifiability policy. However, I did leave links on your talk page on how to cite on Wikipedia. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:59, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
I don't have a talk page. You obviously don't want to admit that The Daily Mail isn't a reliable reference. They're constantly being mocked in our media here as not valid, and their reference contradicts the statements they're making in their article. I mentioned that above, though you clearly didn't read what I put. Instead of going and finding something to refer you to, why don't I just contest the cited source? Check the pizza page in a few minutes. 2602:306:311F:13B0:60D9:DB5E:FD2F:9F7F (talk) 18:01, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
You do have a talk page, that is how I left you a message in the first place. You are right, Daily Mail is not a reliable reference which is why I say you need to cite a reliable source. Since you seem to have a hard time locating my note, please read Help:Referencing for beginners. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:04, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Stop edit warring the pizza talk page. I am trying to leave comments and keep getting told you're adding comments that conflict. 2602:306:311F:13B0:60D9:DB5E:FD2F:9F7F (talk) 18:12, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
I am not edit warring, I simply replied to your message. Edit conflict happen a lot on Wikipedia. Please assume good faith. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:12, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page gnome) 2602:306:311F:13B0:60D9:DB5E:FD2F:9F7F: Please see H:EC for more information on edit conflicts, which is a technical limitation of Wikipedia. And WP:EW which is indeed very different. I hope this helps, —PaleoNeonate – 02:18, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Qalandar

Wanting to add a Qalandar, keeps on getting changed. Any help Mansooryo (talk) 04:18, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@Mansooryo: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Please stop spamming pages with external links and non-notable people. In order for anyone to be added, they must pass our WP:notability criteria and have a Wikipedia page. If you believe this person fits Wikipedias criteria, you can start a draft through WP:YFA. Link

I keep trying to add the required link to King.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Guilty-Jonathan-King-ebook/dp/B07GDS575P

That source does not mention what you are trying to add. Please show me on that link where it says "Urged by the establishment to "shut up", as described in the book, he has failed to do so and continues to attack the False Allegations Industry, as he describes it, whilst also fighting to get his convictions from 2001, which he regards as wrongful, overturned." Am I missing it? You need a better source. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:10, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Ah it says it in the book. 31.54.201.145 (talk) 05:11, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Then you need to follow Template:Cite book and find a source to back up that the book went "straight to the top of the Amazon Pop Culture chart." The source should follow our reliable source policy. Hope this helps HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:13, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. And should I try to link direct to the reviews on that page? 31.54.201.145 (talk) 05:14, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
Reviews are user generated so they are not considered reliable. I can see on your link that the book is listed at #26 but that isn't a good source because it will change over time. Next week maybe it's #54, see what I mean? You need a newspaper or a reliable website that will keep this information. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:16, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
OK thanks a lot for this.31.54.201.145 (talk) 05:20, 27 September 2018 (UTC)
According to King's website [1] "they don't expect to sell more than 600 in total" It was apparently at number one in the Pop Culture charts at one stage.[2]--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:27, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

The forum will not work (it is user generated) but I think Twitter is okay. It isn't the best source but useable. In order to cite it, use Template:Cite tweet. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:33, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

2 hour rule

Hi,

It seems that many people have been discussing something called the "2 hour rule".

Section 5a of US Senate rule 26 contains the information on the 2 hour rule that was used to abruptly end the US Senate Judiciary Committee meeting today, just after they voted to approve the candidate for the US Supreme Court to be voted on by the full US Senate.

Kind regards, 86.170.231.114 (talk) 21:26, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I am assuming this has to do with Standing Rules of the United States Senate, Rule XXVI? If you are ConfirmedFacts please stay logged in by the way. That explains why it was bolded but it still violated WP:NOTREPOSITORY. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:29, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
