North Korea

Keep in mind that while Hanja may not be used widely in North Korea, this article isn't written for North Koreans who largely don't have internet access anyway. There are indeed a lot of problems with the article but concentrating on the CDP is extremely misleading. Most of the CDP is actually not part of the planned community. Proposed deletion

Interesting series of edits I've had on the way to you; reaching you specifically via the redirect page YouTube Poops. There's this remnant from 2004 still casting -- well, it was the one that felt maybe really dirty. Here was a step in my exploration, the wide net. Here was the starting point, masterfully found with "WikiBlame"+-; heard of it?; and a curious step on the way. Anyway, with that intro and your "clean slate" Talk page (some ref to archive but no signposts to such for sure) and signs-of-pride-and-accomplishment User page (and your name vaguely familiar though I can't recall the path crossing if there was one), I'll now take my chances and refer you to Talk:Youtube Poops (looks like the talk page didn't get the capital "T" treatment somehow); hat's in hand. Cheers.

ps My micro-crusade is wrapped up, now, for now. More to be done on it I know (beyond "my" four). Fitting somehow it feels to finish them up by chance here, "my most distinguished ... contact" perhaps I'd call you, in the series. Any advice, feedback or comment certainly welcome. You replied to my comments but immediately removed/archived them. So I will respond to your comments directed to me. You said, "I did not add the death, it was already there. I just simply edited the information that was already on the article. I'd advise you not to go around making these false accusations".[3] I'm sorry, but there was absolutely nothing false in what I stated. While there was one editor shortly before you who made a single edit which added birth and death dates in the infobox,[4] you are the one who added the "Later life and death" section (with zero sources) with the text, "Emerson died on January 7, 2011, at the age of 82, in Camden, Arkansas."[5] I didn't say you were the only editor to add erroneous info; I simply advised you that you must have solid proof before you add content, especially something as contentious a death or birth date in a BLP. Had you looked at the source provided by the prior editor, you should have immediately realized that it was completely unreliable because it provided no information whatsoever to prove that it was about General Emerson. So your edits - unintentionally, I'm sure - perpetuated a huge error in the article: mistaken identity resulting in content about the death of a highly-decorated three-star general who is very much alive. You claimed I made "false accusations", but there was nothing in my comments that were false. ("Wrong Emerson! General Emerson is alive. You made this edit and several others. Please never add death or birth info into an article, especially a BLP, unless you have rock solid evidence from reliable sources to show it's the correct person. Your errors have been corrected and the matter is being discussed at the BLP/Noticeboard and on the article's talk page.") Which part(s) of that are false? I know you meant well and were trying to improve the article. On behalf of a number of other editors who have been working to resolve this matter, I am simply asking you to be careful in the future. If you see content from another editor that isn't reliably sourced - especially content as contentious as someone's death - please do not add on to it. Instead, do the opposite: remove it. Whoa, whoa, whoa, why the hostility? I simply replied to your message, and stated that you could revert my edit if you so desired. If I knew ahead of time that it was going to be such a bother for you, I would've went ahead and done it myself, no questions asked. As for my "screw up", as you say, I'll admit, that was an honest mistake on my part. That was my bad; I am not infallible. I honestly thought that the "is_UK=" template parameter on the articles in question referred to the origin of the vehicle/weapon. I was merely trying to help improve the article, and not trying to be disruptive or unconstructive, much less push one variety of English over the other, as you have so implied earlier. Also, there is no need for the threats of warnings. If I have made a mistake, simply point it out to me, preferably via my talk page, and I will try my best in the future to avoid them. I really don't see with what relevance my edit count has to do with anything here (maybe it's just my terrible, rubbish sense of humor). However, I do tend to have a quite nasty habit of re-editing my work a lot; I guess I'm just absent-minded, or just terribly sleep-deprived. Maybe even a combination of the two. Addition of country after city-state/province

Hello Illegitimate Barrister - I noticed that we had a little back and forth on Andrew Wiggins over the addition of "Canada" to "Toronto, Ontario" in the infobox of his article. I since have noticed that you have been adding "U.S." to several basketball figures' infoboxes (e.g. - Kim English). I apologize for not noting a reason for my Wiggins revert. I do want to point out that USPLACE does not require the addition of "US," ""United States," or "USA" to city/state and that convention on basketball infoboxes is not to add it. With Canadian articles, Manual of Style/Canada-related articles has similar language surrounding city/province. On the US front, this convention has been pretty well established. Recent edits to Brian Lamb

Hi Illegitimate Barrister, I see you recently made some changes to the Brian Lamb article, which I've worked on in the past (and so have watchlisted). All looks good except for one thing, and I'd like to know if you'll reconsider one change. First though, let me say that in addition to being a fan of C-SPAN, I'm also a consultant to the network. Because of this COI I won't be making direct changes to the article, though I often discuss updates and suggested revisions on Talk pages, as I'd like to do here.

Specifically, I noticed that you took the top-level C-SPAN section and made it a subsection of a larger Career section (itself renamed from Early career). While I see how this makes sense from an organizational standpoint, I strongly believe that given the length of Brian Lamb's career at C-SPAN and his role in the establishment of the network, the information on C-SPAN makes the best sense as its own section, as it was before. Greetings! Yes, I marked it as PD-TEXTLOGO rather than PD-TEXT because of the grass. Grass being generic shape, and the font being, well, text. I don't believe that a generic image of some simplistic-looking grass would qualify for copyright protection so I marked it as PD. "Client state of the U.S." claim on South Vietnam

Hi Illegitimate Barrister, could you please intervene on the South Vietnam article and page-protect the article? The user HCPUNXKID changed the status of SVN in the article's infobox from "Sovereign republic" to "Client state of the United States". HCPUNXKID's edit is considered controversial and is disputed even in academic circles, and it is clearly POV. Wow, you archive quickly, I didn't even get a chance to respond! Third party sources and compendia-type websites such as IMDB and Yahoo! Movies do not meet the reliable sourcing criteria for personal info in BLPs. IMDB especially is known to contain incorrect and unreliable biographical data and this is why there is long-time consensus against its use as an inline citation in BLPs (see for example here, here, and here). Transfer of U.S. Coast Guard to the Department of Homeland Security

Your recent edit of United States Coast Guard assumes that the change in control of the Coast Guard occurred at the formation of the Department of Homeland Security. The actual transfer of control of the Coast Guard from the Department of Transportation to the Department of Homeland Security happened on 1 March 2003. I know because I was called to active duty 2 days before the actual transfer to help with the security of the Strategic Port of Embarkation at the Port of Beaumont Texas before the invasion of Iraq. BG Frost

Hello. It looks like I need some help with my first (and currently only) Wikipedia article. I created the article for BG Frost. Obviously, I am a newcomer to Wikipedia and need some help with the standards and conventions relating to articles . . . especially VANITY articles like this one. So far, I simply followed the style and content of other living U.S. Army Generals Wikipedia articles. I'll be glad to find and obtain references/verifications if possible. If not, I will remove any offending passages. I'm just not sure which parts need citations/verifications. Again, I can only go by what I see on many other U.S. Army General's Wikipedia entries. Also, some of your changes make sense. There a few I don't understand. Example: the "big star" (my way) versus the "epaulette" (your way) image in the Infobox. All of the other General's pages use the star. That's would be my preference here. Feel free to contact me and give me a hand getting this article right and compliant with Wikipedia standards. Article on Hal Moore Comment

What are your thoughts on collaborating on the article Hal Moore? I have been working on it off and on for the last couple of weeks and I am quite frankly stuck in a few places. Your edits seem to help jog some thoughts of how to proceed. I would like to get this article done because General Moore's son Greg has been prodding me along to get the article's contents right (there were several factual errors that needed corrected and referenced) and up to Wikipedia standards. My initial goal was B-class. My time is somewhat limited at this time of the year but I told him that I could probably get it done sometime during February. Care to help? Let me know. Well, first off, I'm trying to get a consistent look to the Notes section by getting all the website references used in some kind of order. I started and got some of them done and then got bogged down. As you can see, many of the citations I use are from books and they are pretty consistent, but the web citations from other editors are done about five different ways depending on who tacked the information onto the article. If it is to be a B-class article that needs to be corrected. Thanks for the offer, your edits are looking real good from my viewpoint. I will be away from keyboard for at least a couple of hours. Infobox flags

Why did you revert the IP's edits? What definition of vandalism do they fall under? (and yes, I blocked them, but not because they were vandalizing). -- John Reaves 18:57, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

They were disruptive (some even broke the 3:RR, I think), and they went against the style guide. He quotes WP:INFOBOXFLAG as his reasoning for his edits, however that rule makes a clear exception for government officials (Flag icons may be relevant in some subject areas, where the subject actually represents that country, government, or nationality – such as military units, government officials, or national sports teams), just like the articles he was editing. He seems to be on some sort of personal vendetta, determined to make sure his edits are not reverted, regardless of validity. He has insulted others who disagree with him (myself, other users, and even administrators!) in the past, tell them to "fuck off" and calling them "cunts" (excuse my French). Not only that, the Military History Wikiportal has a clear consensus for allowing flagicons in military-related articles. Remember, this isn't the first time he's done this. He's been here on several different I.P. addresses, dynamic I.P.s and proxies, ("50.159.28.153", "24.44.203.79", "67.43.136.166", "50.121.48.234") in the past, doing the exact same thing (blatantly remove content, insult and deride those who disagree). He made it clear in a very rude talkpage message here that his edits were done for personal reasons, not to better the article. An exciting month of wiki events!

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

There are other meetups in the works, so be sure to check our meetup page with the latest. I hope to see you at some of these events!

USCGC Aspen

Your edits of the article USCGC Aspen (WLB-208) are very much appreciated, especially the picture and patch as I always have trouble getting those right. I have concern about the last edit made [6] here. I generally use a short form of citation that does not link to the website used directly but I always include the link in the "Reference cited" section below the "Citations". If you will click on the third reference listed you will see that your link actually duplicates mine. I feel that it cleans up the list of citations and makes a cleaner looking section. Would you mind if I changed it to the way I had it? My plan is to go through the whole Juniper-class of articles and get them up to at least B-class. Many of the articles are just copies of the Coast Guard website. I could use your help in copyedit as my style is somewhat stilted at times and certainly with the pictures and unit patches. That would be very much appreciated. Your idea of "mergin'" the history section with "The Original Aspen" section was something I had not thought of and I like it. Thank you... Well, the class of ship articles I am currently working on is the Juniper-class of Coast Guard seagoing buoy tenders. Here's the ship class template:

There are sixteen ships in the class and I would like to get them all squared away and looking pretty much the same. I thought that I would get the Aspen article completed to both of our likings and use it as a guide to apply to the rest of the class. I picked Aspen because no article existed on it and I wouldn't be stepping on anyone's toes until I had something that I could use to improve the other articles in the class. You could help best by using the Aspen infobox as a pattern and complete or improve the infoboxes on the other articles in the class. Theis would include pictures and unit patches where available. After I finish the copy on Aspen I would like for you to check my copy for grammar and other little landmines that I tend to leave at times. When we finish with Aspen, my plan would be to move on to Kukui or Walnut as those have no current articles. Moving along, I would then next tackle those articles with just a single paragraph and complete them. Lastly, I would probably rewrite much of the Juniper and Fir articles to make them read better. Some of the articles are riddled with military jargon and while that isn't all bad, it needs some explanation for the general class of reader. I would like all the articles to have much the same citation style if possible. Since this is a relatively new class of ship, there is not likely to be much history available on any of them, but I would like to get as much of it included as possible as long as it can be reliably cited. Charlie-1-7, this is India-Bravo Charlie-Oscar. I've done some minor work so far on the article. I have managed to find a picture of the ship's crest, however, for the life of me, I cannot find a photograph of the ship itself. There are none on the USCG website (which would be public domain) or any photographs elsewhere on the internet that are licensed under the Creative Commons criteria. Couple of things...

• I notice on the lead section of the Willow article the link that says "For other ships of the same name, see USCGC Willow." This links to a "set index" page that list all the possibilities for USCGC Willow. I think that we could do that on all the articles that we have created and edited. Good idea or not? Your thoughts?

• It has always been my intention to enter the articles on this class of ships in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Contest. Recognizing that you have made significant improvements in my edits, I want your thoughts on my using the articles that we have worked on together for the contest entries. If you wish we can put some of the entries in the pot with your name. If you don't care, I will enter them under my nom de plume. What say you? If you don't want them entered at all, I'm good with that also. I don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning anyway, but I usually enter my monthly output just to stay in the game. Personally, I think we do a pretty fair job of knocking articles out, and I can't believe how fast you can edit some articles. I just don't want to burn you out on Coast Guard stuff. List of maritime disasters

In the list of maritime disasters article, I noticed you changed some of the {{flag}} templates from USA to United States. The reason I changed them to USA was so that they would group together when the table was sorted - for example, if you wanted to find the worst maritime disaster in the US. I don't care if it's "US", "USA", or "United States", and all 3 arguments work with the template - but I would like to keep them all the same within the entire article. That's the term Wikipedia prefers, as outlined in WP:NOTUSA ("Do not use U.S.A. or USA, except in a quotation or as part of a proper name"). It also says that if a country is mentioned with the names of other countries, then full names should be used rather than an abbreviation ("France and the United States, not France and the U.S."). Wikipedia prefers to have the full name of countries written out rather than abbreviated, as it views that as being too informal for an encyclopedia. USS Bear

Your edits of Ellsworth P. Bertholf are much appreciated. However during the time that the Bear was operated by the Revenue Cutter Service, she was known as USRC Bear rather than USS Bear. Bear was probably one of the most famous cutters in RCS/USCG history yet the article is named USS Bear. She spent 41 years as a RCS/USCG cutter and only 5 years as a commissioned Navy ship, but when I tried to change the name of the article early in my Wikipedia career I caught sooooooo much flak that I left it alone. Frank Newcomb

Good afternoon, I.B....I'm working on a stub article about a Revenue Cutter Service officer by the name of Frank Newcomb. The article lacks a picture of him and I have found public domain pictures of on the Coast Guard Historian's website, but they are buried in PDF files which I can't seem to do much with. The is also a real nice painting in the public domain on page 5 of the PDF file that might be a nice addition to the article as well as the one on USRC Hudson. Could you find the time to work on this for me? I'm still editing the Newcomb article, but after I'm done you can put your eye on that also; that is if you have the time and interest. The Great American Wiknic and other events in July

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. Seal of the District of Columbia

Hi Illegitimate Barrister- Again you have replaced a perfectly viable original illustration with a PNG file that has a very harsh crop and actually cuts out part of the original art work. I made the background transparent as there is no useful information there. It's just taking up space and size. I cropped the image while keeping the subject matter intact. Addition of border on infobox image

What purpose is there to adding a border to an image in an infobox? As best as I can tell, it makes no difference whatsoever.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 20:49, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Military rank

"Wikipedia and the DoD use different style guides" then Wikipedia needs to do what is correct instead of doing it the wrong way it is supposed to read Major General not Major general lower case is wrong whoever on Wikipedia came up with this doesn't know anything about the military it is a insult to those that have attained there rank for it not to be correct. It's not just Wikipedia's style guide, it's called the English language. Lowercase letters are only incorrect as far as the DoD's style guide is concerned, which DOES NOT apply to Wikipedia's articles. As far as the English language is concerned, the rank is only capitalized when it comes right before somebody's name. "He was a lieutenant colonel" vis-a-vis "Lieutenant Colonel Joe Sixpack, USMC". Also, the ranks ARE lowercase in U.S. federal law. See here. If you want to take this matter up, go to the Military history and the Wikipedia Manual of Style talk pages and start a discussion there. They can explain why it is the way it is way better than I can. However, for the time being, there are rules here on Wikipedia that must be followed and may not be whimsically flaunted at will just because one editor doesn't like it. These rules have been put into place by the consensus of the Wikipedian community, many of whom are military experts. Also, when reverting an edit, please give a reason why it was reverted. A lot of people don't like getting their work reverted without being told why, and it is considered vandalism under Wikipedia's guidelines. I understand you're only trying to help, but these are the rules and that's the way it is. My militaria

IB, thank you for your edits to my "ribbon rack" on my user page. There are a couple of revisions, however. The Army Presidential Unit Citation was actually the Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, even though I served in the Army. Our military intelligence unit worked very closely with the 460th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing [8] to get aerial imagery taken by them processed, interpreted, and distributed to Army and Marine Corps units in the field; and when they were awarded the AFPUC, so were we. On our MIBARS Association page [9] towards the bottom of the page where the old unit personnel photos are I am #7 in the first photo. I am not in the second unit photo, because I was taking the photograph (standing in the back of a deuce and a half). In the last picture on the page is a photo-mosaic shot of our operations area right next door to Bien Hoa Air Base. I took the series of shots that were put into the mosaic. I worked in the low flat building in the center of the photograph as a senior photographic laboratory specialist for two years. Yes, I extended my normal one year tour by an additional year...

The other change is the pistol qualification ribbon. Try as I might, I could not qualify with the M9 Beretta pistol that the Coast Guard used while I was active. In the Army, I qualified many times with the M1911 Colt, but that doesn't carry over to my Coast Guard record. I did manage to qualify through the Coast Guard with the M16 rifle, and that is the ribbon that should be displayed. For your information, while I was in the Army I also qualified on the M1 rifle, M14 rifle, M16 rifle, M1 carbine, M2 "grease gun" and the M60 machine gun, but again those things don't carry over to the Coast Guard awards records.

Additionally, there should be an "O" device on both the Coast Guard Unit Commendation and the Meritorious Team Commendation ribbons. if you want to put these on there that would be great.

I have researched my records, and in my Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal I have six (Six!) awards of the medal, so I think I need a silver star for that one. (The medal itself and five additional awards.) (I was a good conduct sailor!)

I noticed you changed the spelling of Al-Qaeda in Iraq to "al-Qaeda in Iraq". Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

Museum hacks and museum edits

Upcoming events:

• February 6–8: The third annual ArtBytes Hackathon at the Walters Art Museum! This year Wikimedia DC is partnering with the Walters for a hack-a-thon at the intersection of art and technology, and I would like to see Wikimedia well represented.
• February 11: The monthly WikiSalon, same place as usual. RSVP on Meetup or just show up!
• February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Wikipedia. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

I confess that I "watch" your page so that I know what kind of projects you are working on at the moment. Wikimedia DC celebrates Black History Month, and more!

Hello again!

Not even a week ago I sent out a message talking about upcoming events in DC. Guess what? There are more events coming up in February.

First, as a reminder, there is a WikiSalon on February 11 (RSVP here or just show up) and Wiki Loves Small Museums at the Small Museum Association Conference on February 15 (more information here).

Now, I am very pleased to announce:

• Tuesday, February 17 from 10 AM to 3 PM there will be #WikiTurgy at the University of Maryland. Join fellow theatre enthusiasts for a “mass act of public dramaturgy!”
• Thursday, February 19 from 10 AM to 4 PM we are hosting the Howard University Black History Edit-a-Thon. We are working in partnership with the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center to improve Wikipedia’s coverage of African-American and African diasporic history.
• Tuesday, February 24 from 6 PM to 8 PM we have the Black History Month “First Edit” at NPR. Help improve Wikipedia and help others make their first edit to Wikipedia!
• Finally, our monthly dinner meetup is on Saturday, February 28.

There is going to be a lot going on, and I hope you can come to some of the events!

Chief

Not on Wikipedia, they aren't. Military ranks on Wikipedia (and in the English language at large) are only capitalized when they are placed immediately before the name of the rank-holder. So, it would be "John Doe was a seaman apprentice" and "Seaman Apprentice John Doe, USN". Look at the Wikipedia Manual of Style for further info, which clearly states this, plain as day. For your convenience, I have linked it here. In addition, it is not a proper noun, as many navies in other countries have the exact same title. For it to be a proper noun, it would have to be explicitly unique to the USN. Indeed, even the USCG has them. Also, it's not a rank, it's a rate. Commissioned officers have ranks, enlisted personnel have rates. At least in the U.S. sea services, they do. Also, sign your talk pages posts and add a header for new talk page messages. If you don't know how to sign a talk page post, it's four tildes at the end of a message (Like this: ~~~~). On North American English keyboards, the tilde key can be found near the top left-hand portion of the keyboard, just below the "Esc" key. Also, in the future, place new talk page messages at the bottom of a page. Since you haven't done these things, I have gone ahead and done them for you. Still up in the air

Thank you for your vote of confidence recently regarding my contributions on Civil War related material. On another matter, I am getting sustained pushback to sourced information I would like to add to the encyclopedia at United States intro sentence. References to “50 states and DC” which omit the territories are almanacs in Spring 2013 discussion and databases in Fall 2014 discussion. I ask for sources to justify the leap from "unincorporated territories" for internal tax regime in primary documents to territories as "not a part of the United States in any sense", --- but none are forthcoming. I am accused of wp:cherry picking and wp:original research, debate tricks and twisting references, disruption and sea-lioning by experienced, major contributing wikipedia editors.

Most recently Seqqis tried to add territories and was dismissed without rationale by Golbez as there is currently a mediation in process. That process may fail as the 2013 Dispute Resolution process did. A valued historian wikipedian, Rjensen, has counseled "leave it to the lawyers" or something like that. Greetings, sir. Your correspondence of the 23rd was received by me with great favor on the morning of the 24th. If I am reading this correctly, the current dispute is over whether or not U.S. territories are "part of" the United States? If so, I have founded an official document from the U.S. State Department that says they are not. However, this document is in regards to U.S. territories in the 19th century, and not the present day, so I don't know if it applies here. I found another document that labels them as "posessions" of the United States. Personally, I think the entire fiasco is mere semantics, but I may be wrong here. I would word the sentence as "The U.S. consists of 50 states and D.C., and has several territories" or something to that effect, if that may please both sides. In the Senate Committee of Finance hearings [10], the current “territories” and historical “possessions” terms are used interchangeably — appropriately since the term “unincorporated” in Supreme Court holding in 1901 applies to the discriminatory tax regime on sugar at the time; it is still good law, and accounted for in the Haider-Markel source p.649 [11] cited below, noting "They are officially a part of U.S. territory.”

In the 7 FAM 1121, the State Department describes the historical evolution of the territory status, beginning from possessions with citizenship withheld by the courts, to the two commonwealths of Puerto Rico and Northern Mariana Islands with citizenship of the soil, p. 3: "areas under U.S. sovereignty that are not states … [though] self-governing.” For the others, its case by case. Since 1952, p.16: “Guam is listed as part of the geographical definition of the "United States" in Section 101 (a)(38) INA.”, as is Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam [12]. • Presidential Proclamation in 1999, “in accordance with international law, …proclaim[ed] the extension of the contiguous zone of the United States of America, including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the United States Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands…”, p.163 [13]

• The U.S. Homeland Security's Customs and Border Patrol declares in 2015, "U.S. Citizens … who travel directly between parts of the United States, which includes Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), without touching at a foreign port or place, are not required to present a valid U.S. Passport or U.S. Green Card” [14].

• Scholar Ellis Katz notes that "The American federation is composed of fifty states, a federal district (Washington, D.C.), fourteen territories" (five major territories, and nine small islands) and numerous federally recognized Indian tribes. p.296 [15] in Akhtar Majeed, Ronald L. Watts, Douglas Brown eds., “Distribution of powers and responsibilities in federal countries” (2006) McGill-Queen’s University Press.

• Scholar Jon M. Van Dyke at University of Hawaii, includes the five major territories as “a part of the United States”, [16] "The evolving legal relationships between the United States and its affiliated U.S.-flag islands" in the Hawaii Law Review Fall, 1992.

• Scholar Donald P. Haider-Markel at University of Kansas notes the five major territory ambiguous status, "They are officially a part of U.S. territory,” … despite remaining 'unincorporated territories’. p.649 [17]. in “Political Encyclopedia of U.S. states and regions” (2008) Congressional Quarterly Press.

I can find no scholar who looks at the primary sourced "unincorporated territories" for an internal discriminatory tax regime and then concludes they are "not a part of the United States" for every sense in the modern era. In fact, the opposite seems to be true in the case of Puerto Rico. A federal district court has ruled unchallenged for seven years that Congress evolved a political incorporation by statute of Puerto Rico "in fact" p. 26 [18], and scholars Lawson and Sloan in the Boston Law Review note Puerto Rico is the paradigm of an "incorporated" territory as modern jurisprudence understands that term of art p. 1175 [19].

2. Article United States introductory sentence.

3. Content. The U.S. is a federal republic consisting of 50 states, a federal district, and five major territories. -- as sourced with scholarly reliable sources above. Two scholarly sources omitting territories also omit DC, which is not acceptable among the editor consensus. Since 1988 the constitutional privileges and immunities clause has applied to the territories p.28 [20], and like DC the five major territories have a delegate Member of Congress for participation in the national councils of the federal republic in the American tradition for territories p.297 [21].

4. Counter argument.

• Executive sources refer to the territories as “unincorporated”. --- “Unincorporated” refers in 1901 to internal tax regime withholding citizenship. In 1922 it refers to fundamental constitutional protections. Discriminatory tax regime is still governing law, but additional constitutional protections are extended by Congress and Courts in the modern era; a federal district court unchallenged in seven years observes Congress has “incorporated” Puerto Rico by statute “in fact”; scholars Lawson and Sloane conclude it is “incorporated” as modern jurisprudence understands that term of art. The citizenship withheld from "savages" by the Supreme Court in the Insular Cases have been mutually made citizens by modern referendums in Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. American Samoa are U.S. nationals with "permanent allegiance" to the United States.

• Of the five major territories, the United Nations classifies Guam, American Samoa and U.S. Virgin Islands as “non-self-governing”. — The U.N. does not secede sub-units of federal republics. Alaska and Hawaii were on the list mid-20th century, but they remained a part of the U.S. -- French Polynesia and New Caledonia are French on the U.N. list, described in the Wikipedia article France as comprising the French Republic with membership in the National Assembly. All five major U.S. territories have the same delegate Members of Congress as DC, which is conceded as a part of the United States federal republic.

• The Supreme Court declared territories “unincorporated”, the the Supreme Court Insular Cases must be over turned or the Congress must explicitly “incorporate” territories before they can be seen as “a part of” the United States. -- That is a wp:or editor interpretation of "unincorporated" from the primary sources. The U.S. government asserts and scholars conclude that the five major U.S. territories are “a part of the United States”, and are “included” in the United States.

What is the purpose of adding "|border" to profile images?

What is the purpose of adding the "|border" to the images on articles? It causes an error on mouseover and won't display the profile image. I have reverted this change now 3 times on the Barack Obama article, asking for an explanation on the Talk page. And you keep adding it without giving an explanation. If it is not necessary (I see no benefit on display using any device I use to browse Wikipedia), then it should not be added. Thanks. Dave Dial (talk) 02:25, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Listen, you have been told repeatedly that adding that causes a problem. Just on the Obama page where I have had to remove it 3 times, added each time by you. It's not a threat, I am informing you that if you do not stop, this will escalate. The type of behaviour you are displaying is unacceptable. Please stop causing errors all over Wikipedia with your unnecessary edits

Why are you still adding the "|border" unnecessarily to images, even though you know it causes an error? Why do we have to make this an official policy to NOT do, when you are obviously an editor trying to improve the project? I can bring this to ANI or some other board to force you to stop, but that shouldn't be necessary. So I am asking you one last time, please stop adding the border to images. Texas Constable

Please excuse my ignorance of how to get in touch. Please research the Texas Constable more. There are statements in the page that are untrue. The Texas Constitution requires the constable to attend JP Court, they are not legally able to employ a bailiff unless they are in Bexar County. Also please research the beginning of the Texas Constable as they are 3 months older than the Texas Rangers. This is what I have been taught and trained. I just wanted to give you a heads up that there has been extensive argumentation about this subject recently and there is an active discussion about it on the talk page HERE. The status field on the Former Country Infobox is for the current status of former nations, as can be seen when looking at other such examples in the related [Former Countries in North America category. Washington & Lincoln Series Boxes

Hi. I like the concept of using an older Presidential seal on these series boxes. However, I'm going to revert these for the time being, as I am presently working on a high-resolution colorized version of the 1850 seal design, so that the series box looks proper. The current file is all white with pencil, so it looks drab and low-resolution at a size of 40px. Once I finish the colorized version, based off the present seal, I'll reintroduce. While I agree it is preferable to have the seal of proximate vintage, I think it is better to have a colorized and attractive such seal as opposed to the white + pencil one, which is of lesser value in present form. Scotland flags

Hi. I see you've added a new, "1542" flag variant to Template:Country data Scotland, and you've already replaced the default variant with that one in some articles (such as 1998 FIFA World Cup). First, could you please confirm that all articles dealing with events up to 2003 should now be displaying the "1542" variant, and all articles dealing with later events should be displaying the default variant? Second, what was the precise date in 2003 when the flag change took place? This is of interest for articles such as UEFA Euro 2004 qualifying Group 5, which covers events throughout the year 2003. Coast Guard Squadron One

IB: What is the reasoning behind changing the term "Republic of Vietnam" to "South Vietnamese"? I recently changed the term to "Republic of Vietnam" throughout the article to make everything uniform. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, IB! Thanks for your edits on my material throughout the past year. I probably need someone following me around cleaning up my edits more than I would like to admit. lol! I don't know how much time I can spend on Wikipedia this coming year as I am beginning a off-the-frame overhaul of my 1946 Willys CJ-2A Jeep early this spring. This is going to take most of my time for at least two or three months. I have owned it since 1969 and I have ignored its condition for far too long. Since Template:Denominations of the United States was mainly created to be part of Template:Denominations of Christianity, MOS:NOTUSA seems to indicate that "US" should be used to match use of "UK" in Template:Denominations of the United Kingdom. Per WP:BRD, if you disagree, please discuss to gain WP:CON before reverting. Chiropractic page

Chiropractors literally DO serve as PCP's and often better than their GP MD counterparts. Just created this account and my sole purpose is to have the chiropractic page corrected. You can do so willingly or it can be a struggle but it will be changed as the information is misleading and disrespectful to doctors of chiropractic as well as every single viewer of Wikipedia who isnt receiving accurate info, and instead is just hearing one mans lopsided version of the truth. February events and meetups in DC

Greetings from Wikimedia DC!

February is shaping up to be a record-breaking month for us, with nine scheduled edit-a-thons and several other events:

• On Friday, February 12, NPR will host a Black History Month First Edit event.
• On Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14, we're working with the Wiki Education Foundation to hold a series of four edit-a-thons at the AAAS 2016 Annual Meeting.
• On Tuesday, February 16, we're holding the Smithsonian American Art Museum and American University WikiWorkshop with Professor Andrew Lih's class.
• On Saturday, February 20, the Smithsonian American Art Museum will host the African American Artists Edit-a-Thon.
• On Friday, February 26, Howard University will host its second annual Black History Month Edit-a-Thon.
• On Saturday, February 27, we have three different events. In the morning, we're holding an Accessibility Edit-a-Thon at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. In the afternoon, we'll host our second February WikiSalon at Cove Dupont Circle, followed by our monthly dinner meetup at Vapiano.

We hope to see you at one—or all—of these events!

I'm not sure if you can facilitate, but I might also suggest keeping an eye on YahwehSaves, continuing to use 75.79.31.20 as a sockpuppet. I'm active-duty military, so I can't dedicate the time necessary to back-track/research all the uncited/unreferenced/original content edits made (Chesty Puller, George Armstrong Custer, Fergie Jenkins, "A" Device), some resulting in edit wars. Looking for something to do in DC in March? We have a series of great events planned for the month:

• On Wednesday, March 9, we'll host our first March WikiSalon at Cove Dupont Circle.
• On Friday, March 11, the National Archives will host the Women in the Civil War Edit-a-Thon.
• On Saturday, March 19, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian will host the Color History with the Smithsonian! event, and we'll hold our second Accessibility Edit-a-Thon at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.
• On Sunday, March 20, the American Chemical Society will host the Computers in Chemistry Edit-a-Thon.

Murder of Kyle Dinkheller

Hi. I noticed you have recently been editing the Murder of Kyle Dinkheller and Murder of Darrell Lunsford pages. It was actually me who originally created the Darrell Lunsford page and added it to wikipedia - my first ever article. The reason I'm messaging you is to point out a simple search issue. If you search on the wikipedia page for simply Kyle Dinkheller, the redirect link that comes up is this: Kyle dinkheller, with the "d" being in lower case instead of upper. You can see the redirect page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kyle_dinkheller&redirect=no. Is it not more appropriate to delete this redirect page and simply just have this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kyle_Dinkheller&redirect=no as the redirect page with the "d" being in upper case? You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you inappropriately alter an image. I have asked you many times to stop causing these errors by inserting "|border" into the infoboxes in articles. The next stop is ANI. This is ridiculous that you insist on this unneeded stupid border on images even though it causes errors.
