Please be sure you are reporting vandalism

Re your recent post to WP:AIV [1] on IP 84.13.135.249 (talk · contribs): please be sure you are making accurate reports of vandalism. While you say "vandalism after final warning", the IP only has one warning from ten years ago (2006), so that is completely false, or disingenuous at best. The five edits you must be referring to are all additions to music genres. While there are genre warriors out there, and many are disruptive, the edits are not vandalism. Please consult the definition used at Wikipedia (WP:VANDALISM). False or exaggerated reports waste admins' time, and erode their confidence that WP:AIV is a worthwhile board to check when looking for things that need admin attention. Thank you. Willondon (talk) 12:26, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Willondon, that is an IP from banned User:CharlieJS13, I don't need to make warning templates on his page to report him. —IB [ Poke ] 12:47, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
I saw the WP:LTA reference in your report. The IP has only two edits from Dec 2006 (the edits that connected it to account User:CharlieJS13 presumably), then five edits from this month, ten years later. I don't see how you can still connect that IP to the banned account. In any case, even if that means you don't need to post warning templates before reporting, you shouldn't be saying "vandalism after final warning" in your report. A brief glance at the IPs talk/contribs jumps to the conclusion "false or exaggerated report". Administrators volunteer their precious time, and decide for themselves what issues they will pay attention to. So again, it's important to reserve WP:AIV for only blatant cases of vandalism, so that admins don't start to ignore it as a pit of boys crying wolf. I hope you can appreciate my point of view. Genre warriors are frequently disruptive and frustrating. I'm not accusing you of being wrong, just injudicious. Willondon (talk) 13:01, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
P.S. I saw your note at WP:AIV about IP 92.5.76.227. This is further evidence that you are right. But I'm suggesting that your report of WP:LTA might be more appropriate at WP:ANI, and that the description you gave at WP:AIV could be seen as misleading. I do my best to preserve WP:AIV as a place to report clear cut cases of vandalism that require little investigation or judgement on the admin's part. The easier their job is at WP:AIV, the more they'll visit. Willondon (talk) 13:11, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
I understand your concern now and acknowledge it and will keep it in mind. —IB [ Poke ] 13:13, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
No problem. I don't mind you deleting those references, just I think it makes sense to keep the one that showed the debut (in the top 50) position. I only added those references to the article because I saw that the debut position listed was incorrect, and thought I would need some evidence to show that it was.Nqr9 (talk) 23:16, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Rebel Heart Tour

We should work on Rebel Heart Tour article, as it's literally the only one (aside from the Radio 1 controversy) that needs to be done in order to create a Good topic for Rebel Heart P: I also believe an article for the song Rebel Heart is in order, as it was one of the most critically acclaimed songs from the album as well as one of the leaked demos.--Chrishm21 (talk) 19:10, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

I will probably finish off the article today. But Chrishm21 can I request you to not add random images to the article please? The images, although free, I believe should be present there to enhance the section and aid in reader's understanding. —IB [ Poke ] 19:13, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
I understand. I was just trying to help, I won't do it anymore :) just tell me what I can help you with. --Chrishm21 (talk) 19:14, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Being a regular contributor of Spanish wikipedia (I'm latin american myself :) ), since we can't use audio files and such, we tend to overdo it with the pictures on the different sections hehe. Again, I apologize. I also wanted to ask if it was Ok or appropriate if we could do for the tour articles what is done for others such as The Monster Ball Tour and the Femme Fatale Tour, use double image templates and add more than one pic? --Chrishm21 (talk) 19:23, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Let me get started on the article. Hope you won't edit now since we can edit conflict. And its okay I know you try to help and I like it always :) I wasn't being negative on your contributions. —IB [ Poke ] 19:25, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
So it's OK if i do the double image template?? --Chrishm21 (talk) 19:27, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Please not now. —IB [ Poke ] 19:28, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
OK No prob :) --Chrishm21 (talk) 19:31, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Madonna Article

Hi. I am wondering if you have ever been to the United States or know anything about the people and the topics that you edit on Wikipedia? It is a valid question since you seem very active in some areas where you would otherwise be entirely unfamiliar... Please let me know if you were in New York City in the 1970s or 1980s, perhaps? I understand that you may have an obsession with Madonna, so I am trying to ascertain if this emanates from a virtual reality or a genuine familiarity... Also, is your concept of Madonna based on perceptions from India or does it have any connection at all to the U.S., which is her place of origin? Thanks... Stevenmitchell (talk) 04:58, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, please email me since I do not like to discuss it here in an open forum. Thanks for your interest and appreciate the time to write a wonderful message :) —IB [ Poke ] 08:47, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

DYK for Madonna: Tears of a Clown

On 7 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Madonna: Tears of a Clown, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that singer Madonna dressed up as a clown for her one-off acoustic show in Australia? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Madonna: Tears of a Clown. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Madonna sandbox, pics and infobox

Hey! How R u!! It was so awesome to come up with those Tears of a Clown Pictures wasn't it? I also wanted to ask you, I began working on this expansion :D, can I count with your help?? Also, regarding the neverending Madonna infobox picture, the same user that owns the tears of a clown pictures on flickr, uploaded some great pics from the final Australian shows (March 2016) Now we can't use the clown pictures, as Madonna is in disguise on those. But I think one of these 4 could work if cropped correctly. What do you think??

--Chrishm21 (talk) 16:34, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

I think we can use the fourth image, I really like it, you can take that image to the graphics lab and ask them that you wanna use it as infobox image so they would do the necessary corrections. —IB [ Poke ] 08:08, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Madonna

Look!!!!! 1 :D Can we use it??? Or do we have to go do a vote on the talk page?? --Chrishm21 (talk) 18:10, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

In the report at AIV you claimed that Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MariaJaydHicky showed that 73.81.147.39 is a confirmed sock. I do not see anywhere in that SPI that 73.81.147.39 has ever been reported much less confirmed as a sock of MariaJaydHicky. Can you clarify? -- GB fan 16:38, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
@GB fan:, it is behavioral evidence of MariaJayDHicky. The user has long since been a disruptive one, doing mass genre changes, false content addition etc for which he was indeff'd, finally banned. This IP showed the exact same behavior from the socks of MJDH, and when reported, started disrupting it. I admit I called him asshole, cause he/she keeps coming back and disrupting. A number of articles have to be reverted now, but yeah, the IPs blocked. It was kind of WP:DUCK actually and I'm thinking whether to file and keep it as an audit that this was another IP? I know WP:CU won't connect to IP but maybe for behavioral evidence. —IB [ Poke ] 19:36, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying, but your AIV report said that the SPI confirmed the IP was a sock. Please be more careful about how you write it in the future. It makes it hard for admins not familiar with the case to look at it when what you have written is not true as the IP was never confirmed as a sock. -- GB fan 19:50, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

25 (Adele album)

Collins says, "She gave me a piece of music to finish and at first I didn't know if I'd failed the audition..." which strongly implies that he worked or on the album, it is a scrapped track. Besides, the involvement of Collins in the evolution of the album is noteworthy, irrespective of the results. BrunoMacDonald (talk) 14:17, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

@BrunoMacDonald:, you are assuming that it was for 25. The source does not state anywhere explicitly that they were working on music for the new album, who knows what it is for then. Do you see the difference why it was not beneficial? —IB [ Poke ] 14:26, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Adele told Rolling Stone that it was for the album. I'll find the relevant quote, add it, and reinstate the Phil Collins quote. BrunoMacDonald (talk) 15:23, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm fine. Chrishm, I have always found issues with the images that you add to articles. Firstly you have a tendency to add images which only you have uploaded, secondly you don't check if the images are facing away from the article or not which per MOS you should, and lastly, you should check that the images don't overlap into next sections when seen through a widescreen monitor. —IB [ Poke ] 08:08, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

I want to add this image as an extra cover of I Want You (Marvin Gaye song) per WP:IAR. Therefore, I'll put both images up for FFD to decide whichever image should be kept. Fair deal? --George Ho (talk) 04:31, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Can you please not? I get that you are trying to help but please stop with these unnecessary image additions. FFS, no, that unnecessary vinyl image no one identifies the song with and Bluesatellite already explained that when he/she reverted you. —IB [ Poke ] 08:12, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Shall you allow me to nominate solely the French cover art for discussion instead after the other is deleted? --George Ho (talk) 05:12, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Never mind. The uploader says that it's okay to replace the French front cover with the US side label. Do you agree with him? --George Ho (talk) 07:00, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
I don't, because the US side label is not the one people identify the song with. —IB [ Poke ] 07:03, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
I still don't think the French front cover clearly, accurately identifies the song either. But I don't want edit war. If I can't convince either you or Bluesatellite to concur (i.e. diplomacy), I guess I failed to overcome the "ownership" then. George Ho (talk) 07:29, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
Why do you think that an actual artwork does not identify the song more than a scan of a CD? I'm really failing to understand this concept of trying to replace everything with 7" single covers which do not even identify a content/release. NOM, but you sometimes really get riled up in things, which did not needed to be riled. —IB [ Poke ] 10:23, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
Because an extra cover has not been approved, we end up fighting over whichever should be a sole image a lot. I really think a home country image is more preferable. Using an image from overseas would lead a reader to believe that the song was not individually released commercially in a home country... or would believe that the article is amateurishly edited, especially when a caption is not included. I replaced the promo image with the overseas commercial one at Down So Long. Even I replaced the promo or overseas CD cover with the commercial US cassette one in Vision of Love, where we edit warred. No matter, I guess I failed to convince you otherwise. George Ho (talk) 07:07, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
Furthermore, according to sources, supplies of picture sleeves for individual songs/singles in the pre-compact disc days were limited and costly. To my perspective, picture sleeves apply to mainly albums and were produced into millions of units for mainly albums. Singles? I read that picture sleeves were used mainly for "promotional use only", e.g. given to radio stations and club DJs (?). The sleeves for singles were produced mainly in Europe. I read that there was a sleeve shortage in 1973. I think that the US vinyl image should reflect the US release of the song by the US R&B singer. George Ho (talk) 19:10, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Wait, doesn't this contradict what you said at the FFD about the UK image of Lucky Star (Madonna song), or maybe you mistook the image as a side label? George Ho (talk) 10:41, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Madonna (entertainer): WP:OVERLINK

Hi,

While you may be right that nowadays links may be not as important as before, I would argue that at least two of them really belong there: popular music is a main context for her work and recording industry - which may be a bit less important but we have already music critics link, which is very similar. --kocio (talk) 19:51, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Adjustment of caption in Love Don't Live Here Anymore

I don't know whether I should make a big deal out of image captions anymore, especially when you eliminated that part about identifying the edition. I see people changing images or never identifying whichever edition they added. Even I saw people switching from JPEG to PNG, allowing room for image modifications (or remodeling). I added the edition identity to prevent image changes and to encourage praise for authenticity of physical products. However, if the edition identity is not necessary, how else do I prevent further image changes besides watchlisting images and reverting bad changes? --George Ho (talk) 09:30, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Usually image changes on the Madonna articles are done en masse by the sockpuppet of an extremely disruptive user known as ElPilotoDi (talk · contribs) who was banned but still comes back in socks. So you can actually find out there will be mass changes of the images in the articles. —IB [ Poke ] 09:32, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I'm aware of the changes that this person made. I apologize, but I didn't ask you why you think identifying the edition is unnecessary, like "(US CD single pictured)". Care to explain? --George Ho (talk) 09:35, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Because that was the cover art used everywhere I believe, so no need to explicitly mention US/UK/AU/JP. —IB [ Poke ] 10:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Well... I had a reason to identify the edition. There is "CD SINGLE" on the lower-right corner. Also, notice the thing on the right edge of the product? That would be where the CD case is pulled out of the jacket. How do you call it? George Ho (talk) 13:21, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
WP:DROPTHESTICK, have you heard of it? —IB [ Poke ] 08:28, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Since you are impossible, I decided to watchlist the image in case someone tries to upload a revision. George Ho (talk) 02:21, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

CSTF

Can't Stop the Feeling! weekly sales are connected to each other as Billboard reports every week, so is actually not violating WP:SYN. I don't get the problem. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 19:12, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Cornerstonepicker that is exactly where it fails WP:SYN, you are making A+B = C. Consider a case, CSTF sold 321,000 the first week, another 500 within the tracking period, and 220,000 in second week. You would represent the total as 321,000 + 220,000 = 541,000 whereas Nielsen would store the amount as 541,500 copies cumulatively because that's what we should report. —IB [ Poke ] 08:47, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey. There's no technical requirement as far as I know, it's just on the film project they prefer it to be a plainlist. I can leave it if you want. Quentin X (talk) 17:32, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your response, yes I believe we can leave it since its just one entry. For more than one I agree we should definitely use {{plainlist}}. —IB [ Poke ] 17:34, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

User talk:Xboxmanwar

I see you left User talk:Xboxmanwar a few messages (which were promptly deleted) about disruptive editing and edit waring. I actually left a message today at WP:DRN seeking help regarding this editor and their edits at Kodak Black. Very frustrating. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:14, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
