A tag has been placed on Category:Gallos Blancos de Hermosillo footballers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. It is well established that a player should appear in the relevant club category even if they only played youth football for a club. I have restored the categories at Brian Galach. GiantSnowman 17:50, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello JTtheOG,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Katharina Thanderz

I’ve added a BoxRec citation to the lead which verifies her DOB, which title she holds and since when and all the information in the infobox. Does that satisfy the BLP tag you added? I didn’t want to remove it incase it doesn’t. – 2.O.Boxing 23:13, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Squared.Circle.Boxing: BoxRec is a good source to start, but the General notability guidelines for biographies say that a person is assumed notable if they have "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." In addition to BoxRec, I've added some more information here and there along with reliable sources from a few different sites to show that Thanderz does in fact meet the guidelines. Pretty much all you have to do is add a few sources to strengthen the article. Hope this helps. JTtheOG (talk) 07:45, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JTtheOG. I see that you have reviewed some of my new figure skating championshipcompetition-articles. Do you have anymore words about these articles in general on form or layout, since I haven't done that many articles on this languageproject. Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi JTtheOG, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello JTtheOG,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Proposed deletion of Amanda Dewey

Hi JTtheOG! Thank you so much for your review of Amanda Dewey. I reviewed WP:SIGCOV. When I search Google for "Amanda Dewey Berwyn Heights", I get two pieces of press coverage that are entirely about her: here and here. Since WP:SIGCOV has no requirements for a specific number of articles, and since these are not produced directly by the subject, I thought these were sufficient. If you disagree, do you mind telling me some more about your perspective? I'd love to learn more about how you're thinking about this. Thanks, and have a great day! Page review apprecation and request

Hello,

I would like to thank you for reviewing the page I had recently created, 2018 Southeastern Provisions raid. I had noticed that one of my other pages that I had created, 1972 Bean Station, Tennessee bus crash had not been reviewed yet, as I never received a notification about it. Since you had reviewed one of my pages already, I was curious if you could review the crash article. I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, --AppalachianCentrist (talk) 21:35, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AppalachianCentrist: Hey man, it looked like someone's already reviewed right now that I just checked it, unless something's goin on on my side. Lemme know. Also, you only joined earlier this year? Those are really well-written. Kudos and cheers! JTtheOG (talk) 08:42, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JTtheOG:, thanks for the response and appreciation of my work. I guess it is beginner's luck. I've always been fascinated with the history of the metropolitan area that I live in, including my actual hometown and my "hometown." The reason I had messaged you was because when typing the phrase "Bean Station bus crash" on several search engines, the article to the crash did not appear. Whereas with the ICE raid, the article was the first suggestion. I found that confusing and wandered if the review did not give approval of the article.

Thanks, --AppalachianCentrist (talk) 15:27, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AppalachianCentrist: I'm actually not too sure why it wouldn't be showing up. What I know is that new articles are automatically indexed after 90 days, so if anything it should be a result by then. JTtheOG (talk) 03:22, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Juha Suomaa

Hello there. I see you proposed deletion of Juha Suomaa, however I have to tell you that the article meets WP:NHOCKEY as per criteria #2, he played at least 200 games in Mestis, 204 in total, 177 regular season games and 27 playoff games. I had already noted this on the talk page explaining his notability plus I specifically mention this in the article. Tay87 (talk) 22:39, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tay87: My bad, I forgot about Mestis being in the guidelines. Still needs more sources though. Cheers. JTtheOG (talk) 22:41, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JTtheOG: No worries, it happens and it has happened before, hence I mention it in the talk page when such an article can be disputed. I may have been gone for half a year due to depression and coronavirus but my brain still at least functions enough to be aware and alert of who is notable and who isn't. Hello, JTtheOG,

Please can you stop adding players to these categories if their article makes no mention of playing for the youth team? GiantSnowman 11:14, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: They all link to the articles that confirm their goals and appearances in these major continental tournaments, but alright. I've stopped for now til I get sources on em. If these are your articles then maybe you shoulda mentioned it. JTtheOG (talk) 11:35, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
WP:WIKIPEDIAISNOTARELIABLESOURCE, and no such thing as 'my' article per WP:OWN. GiantSnowman 12:19, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We have senior category, under-21/20 category (as the most senior of youth) and then a generic 'youth' for the lower youth levels. GiantSnowman 20:38, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me you were aware of the subcats in Category:Association football players by under-20 national team and Category:Association football players by under-21 national team and haven't been mis-categorising all relevant players as 'youth'? I've cleaned up and re-categorised the ones that appeared on my watchlist... GiantSnowman 20:55, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: No I did, I just didn't know if that was the consensus to use that format so I didn't want to make new under-20 cats. Only for some of the ones where I knew it existed did I add the U20 subcat since it was already made. But how do U23 appearances come into the question? This is one of the reasons it seemed weird to me. JTtheOG (talk) 23:02, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also most of the "youth" categories outside Europe with descriptions specifically mention including under-20, making it more confusing. Argentina, China, Indonesia, Japan, North Korea, Qatar, Panama JTtheOG (talk) 23:15, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's long established we have youth, under20/21, and senior. Those category descriptions are wrong, especially as we have e.g. Category:Argentina under-20 international footballers etc. GiantSnowman 11:06, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've cleaned up those categories, removed erroneous reference to under-20 inclusion, and created any missing unser-20/21 cats accordingly. GiantSnowman 13:38, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@GiantSnowman: Thank you, I've begun to go back and correct my mistakes and add sourcing, as well as recategorize and cleanup some others accordingly since there seem to be more than a few U20s in youth cats. JTtheOG (talk) 07:28, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I saw you prodded this article as failing WP:RLN. The way that guideline is written seems a bit ambiguous to me. # 3 says, "Have appeared in at least one match of a fully professional club rugby league competition", then lists two specific competitions. Is it your read that ONLY those two competitions meet the requirement? The editor who created this article has been creating quite a few stubs from professional RL players who play in that French top tier league. Are they therefore not notable? Onel5969 TT me 00:53, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Onel5969: Hello. First off thanks for all the reviewing you do, you're always right above me in new page reviews. As for RLN, yeah that was my interpretation of it. NFOOTY and NRU have a list of fully-professional leagues for this purpose, and RLN seems to have a much shorter list, which would make sense considering the sport's popularity compared to association football and rugby union. Additionally, the rugby league page itself lists the two competitions in RLN as the "premier club competitions". That doesn't mean that the Elite One Championship is not fully professional, but I think that issue should probably be brought up at a wikiproject talk page or on the WP:NSPORTS talk page to amend the list and make it more specific before these pages keep popping up, similar to discussions had on the WP:FPL talk page. JTtheOG (talk) 01:40, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also on a side note, of course the other route would be assuring they meet WP:GNG, in which case the sports notability guidelines could be worked around. JTtheOG (talk) 01:41, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
JTtheOG, thanks for the reply, as well as all you do at NPP as well. This editor now has about 20 or so stubs out there from the French league, all of which in their current state don't meet GNG. There was a brief discussion back in November on the RL page, but it didn't really address this particular concern. Onel5969 TT me 01:52, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:F4 Argentina Championship seasons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Liz Read! New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello JTtheOG,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Hi there!

I've noticed that you added the speedy deletion tag to all the creations of this guy (@Olequefacil), correctly by the way, but the article above isn't available through WP:GNG? I've seen a lot of coverage over him on the Galician newspapers, but I'm not sure that he is notable enough to stay here even after my additions...

What do you think? Maybe move this to AfD, and let others decide too? Cheers, MYS77 00:49, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MYS77: Hello, thank you for those additions. The article looks great. I'll remove the tag and make the move for more opinions on the matter. Cheers! JTtheOG (talk) 00:55, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
