NSL finals bracket[edit]

Hi JMan, I'm not sure if it is due to my delay in replying to you, but I notice the page linked already has a finals bracket template in use - has someone else fixed it in the meantime or does it need changes? -- Chuq (talk) 05:43, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mapping[edit]

Hi, sorry for the holiday delays. =) I'm not hugely familiar with what goes into the creation of new maps and the map markup in general, but I recommend you to dive into Blank maps and see what map bases are curretly available. Then perhaps read up on mapping and contact WikiProject Maps and possibly WikiProject Geographical coordinates for help - I'm sure they can help with the nitty-gritty markup details. Good luck! --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 17:17, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers heaps, dude. I put up a request on their page and hopefully it can get figured out from there. Thanks a bunch for the point in the right direction! J man708 (talk) 16:13, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2014–15 A-League table[edit]

Yep, my apologies. Thanks for reminding me about this, I'll keep an eye on this in the future. Arbero (talk) 20:07, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, I see what you mean. ;) By the way, have you gotten used to the new league table yet? I read about your discussion with QED on the talk page, and you were a bit unhappy about me changing the league table. Arbero (talk) 20:17, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the hold-up J man, I was outside Wikipedia. Yep, I see what you mean. Do you think a further discussion is required regarding the colours? Arbero (talk) 21:49, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, we can say both. Yeah, I get that the blue colour would probably make sense if there ever is an AFC Cup competition since it's used for the Europa League. (Forgive me, but I got a bit lost whilst reading your previous response, so I'm a bit unsure if I got it correct). As for the colouring table system you suggested, I experienced with the colours that you posted with the 2014–15 A-League table, and this is the result I got:
Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts Qualification
1 Perth Glory 13 10 2 1 24 13 +11 32 Qualification to 2016 AFC Champions League group stage
2 Wellington Phoenix[a] 14 9 1 4 28 14 +14 28 Qualification to 2015 A-League Finals series
3 Melbourne Victory 13 7 4 2 26 14 +12 25 Qualification to 2016 AFC Champions League qualifying play-off
4 Adelaide United 13 7 2 4 20 13 +7 23 Qualification to 2015 A-League Finals series
5 Sydney FC 14 4 7 3 15 15 0 19
6 Melbourne City 13 4 4 5 20 24 −4 16
7 Brisbane Roar 13 3 3 7 14 19 −5 12
8 Central Coast Mariners 14 2 6 6 12 21 −9 12
9 Newcastle Jets 14 1 5 8 12 28 −16 8
10 Western Sydney Wanderers 11 0 4 7 6 16 −10 4
Updated to match(es) played on 4 January 2015. Source: A-League
Rules for classification: 1) points; 2) goal difference; 3) number of goals scored.
Notes:
  1. ^ Wellington Phoenix cannot qualify for the 2016 AFC Champions League as they are not recognised as an AFC club.

Is this what you meant, mate or did I misinterpret it wrong as well? As for the questions, I tried to answer them as good as possible, but I'm a bit tired right now unfortunately, so my energy isn't exactly up to standard right now, if you know what I mean, hehe. Arbero (talk) 22:55, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not too bad at all, in fact I concur, that actually looks pretty clean to me. As for the swearing, not to be picky, but I think you'll find I'm from Sweden, and you just typed it in Danish, the correct term you are looking for is "För helvete". But nice try anyway, mate, you were on the right lead there. ;) Arbero (talk) 23:54, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I say why not, give it a try. And yes, you got that swearing word right this time ;) Anyway, I'm off to bed now (it's 01:23 here in Sweden), so I have to go now. We can chat tomorrow. Bye for now! Arbero (talk) 00:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, mate. If you need any more assistance in the future, give me a ping. As for "Jävla", I made an error when I said it was correct; it actually means "damned", so if it was "damn" you wanted to say, the word "jävlar" would have been more appropriate. ;) Arbero (talk) 11:22, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again J man, it's me again. I just want to say that I used the 2014–15 A-League table regarding the discussion we had three days ago on WikiProject Football as an example of how the colours would look like. I hope I have added something to the discussion and I will try to do my best to find more arguments if possible. Feel free to comment on the WikiProject Football section or reply directly on my talk page if you want to. Arbero (talk) 02:06, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

J man, regarding the ongoing discussion about the colour table, I would like to apologise if you did not find my arguments to be strong enough; I think I threw the towel in too early. (I rarely take part in discussions, as I'm more of an editor than a commentator). I could have been on your side by saying that I preferred the yellow colour to the blue/purple colours, but CRwiki made some good points regarding the consensus, so I didn't have much of a choice unfortunately but to agree with him. I just hope this doesn't effect our relationship, hopefully we can still maintain a good communication between the two of us. Arbero (talk) 01:46, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You make a valid point. I have read discussions on various articles talkpages throughout my time here on Wikipedia where users, sometimes experienced can't seem to get along with each other quite well enough. Anyway, good luck with the discussion. Arbero (talk) 16:44, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

TheSelectFew[edit]

Hey man your set up for the FFA Cup qualifying rounds is perfect. I, as well as some forumers, will help you keep it up to date. I also enjoy the cricket and will try help you keep old NSL articles up to scratch as well as local clubs. :) i have far too much time too haha — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 03:10, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alright bro I have no idea what I'm doing haha. I'll sus out more sources for you man. Its pretty awesome the work you have been doing. Ive added links between surburban towns to local clubs etc. Also ive added some of my local clubs info. Absolutely amazing the work youve done. What would you add next? Ill help if possible. I have uni resources. Also i was thinking sussing out how they qualified for the australian cup because it would be interesting to see how similar it is to the FFA Cup. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 02:01, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate. Just added the NPL finals into the qualifying rounds section as it was part of the qualifying rounds. If you feel any changes need to be made hit me up or feels free to yolo change it yourself. Happy Asian Cup Eve. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 16:16, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nah i really rate what you have done. It makes it look far more organised. I think youve done great. All there is to do now is wait for fixtures to be released. Btw in victoria the state leagues go down to state 5. Up to you if you wanna chuck in regional leaguea. I can provide links.— Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:02, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Type into wiki state 5. Its there.

Im on my mobile and cant find an updated link because i dont think the ffv have updated a teams list.

Haha theres a reason i dont update. Check my past posts, they are minor at best. :(

No worries man. See, im good for something... Just not formatting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:57, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man will you be adding qualifying rounds?

Yeah thought so. I was checking if that was the case. If you have links for it on Fox Pulse i can update for you if you are unable to.

Thats what shitted me last year. Some federations had results within minutes of a final score and others took almost a week, especially in the early rounds. This year i will make phone calls if i have to just tell me what you need. I reckon this will be the case with the nothern territory. Whens the first games due?

Geez that came around quick. Yeah i love your set up the only issue i saw with it was the qualifying parts but you have a plan and i dont doubt you. Like i said previously i will assist with data gathering.

Ragarding the spat between the two sa systems what is the go with that and will it be resolved?

Hell yeah!! Few spelling and grammatical errors in the article but meh. Great news.

So im guessing your SA. Oh well we cant all be perfect ;) but itd be great to see the cup expanded to all teams in SA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 00:06, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

First things first im not a fan of the A-league page set up. Probably should change that back imo.

As for the FFA Cup, I think it was because of the issues with that have been mentioned is the reason there is only one spot awarded. Its like blackmail. Lol. I shared the FFA Cup draw to the 442 forums.

Also, Adelaide City didn't beat the asian champions they beat the club bottom of the ladder without a win to their name ;)

On another note, the Sydney Morning Herald have said that our qualifying rounds for the World Cup will be held in australia with adelaide and perth highlighted as two key cities. Keen.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:57, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adelaide oval would be fantastic. As a melbournian its boring watching the national team play at the same venues.

You tagged me in that post about how the league stats were on a seperate page. It should be on the same page tbh.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:57, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If its local then definitely but last year id have to travel across the city and thats too much of pain to do for a team you dont really care about.

Btw i was looking at the most viewed shows and in australia and i dont think its right. For example im pretty sure the asian cup final had a higher rating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 11:15, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So keen for this. Thanks for the update. Im going to update our youth teams pages when i get home. Im currently at Sorrento:) how are you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 12:27, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just tolet you know. Im banned till wednesday on 442. Fucking JoFFA the fat virgin.

Full just went on about seb ryall being a u no wot. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 06:01, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Haha theres a dedicated section! I love Wikipedia. How did adelaide let that game slip!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 12:09, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I reckon the quality of the league has gone down a lot. The recycling of shit players hasnt helped. A significant portion of 442 members believe it will be between United and MV. Dont know how people can forget Perth.

Will their be any WCQ matches in your neck of the woods?

As of today i have been liberated from my unjust ban. I dont go on the internet for anything apart from watching and talking football. Its quite sad. Im really pissed off at how poorly Central Coast Mariners performed last night. Was embarrassing.

I really hope Adelaide, Perth and Townsville share the qualifiers. I find it boring watching them among the same backdrop. Change it up imo.

As for the finals. I want New Zealand clubs out of the competition for a number of reasons. I reckon they are stopping us from any meaningful growth and there is no reason expanding into a foreign country just for expansions sake. Just my opinion though. Many agree and many disagree it seems. Lol — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:19, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Holy shit. Been awhile between drinks then haha.

Im getting told off by everyone lately. :(

hey mang. Been banned from 442 again.

Just a query, are you getting results from the official cup page? I find they are very slow. Also one of the users snipped my edit. Was about to update scores to discover someone got inb4me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 22:20, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

i literally get banned for anything. The mods are plagiarizing bellenss who started the forum because they were kicked off TWG forum.

Nine News Darwin 8 hrs · FFA CUP: The Darwin leg of the FFA CUP has been drawn, Casuarina FC will play Shamrock Rovers and Darwin Olympic will play Uni Azzuri in Round 1. All other sides have the bye until Round 2.

Just announced. 1000kms is nuts. Thatd be awesome though. And they win. Hope they get a home game if they win. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 22:35, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSelectFew: Dude, you should give up on that and join the A-League subreddit. Hahaha. Also, I think that Wednesday has about 4 or 5 itself. It's good that we're already starting to get into the pointy end of it now. Less than 100 teams remain! - J man708 (talk) 12:19, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate I forgot my email and password for my other account. I haven't been editing for two reasons. 1, I usually make my contribution through 442 still and 2, I can't format for s#%t. But as you can tell I have kept a very close eye on this page (2016 FFA Cup prelims). I was also going to mention you haven't completed the 2015 FFV season page. A lot of unfinished competitions and similarly you have left leagues out for the 2016 season.

State 5 results are here: http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?assoc=8746&pID=1

Also re FFA Cup preliminary rounds maybe you could throw up a map of all the competing clubs. Just an idea. I have seen a few copies of a map floating around. TheSelectFewMelb (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:56, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding wiki links that don't exist[edit]

Firstly, thanks for all your edits. They're most appreciated.

Regarding 2015 FFA Cup preliminary rounds I'm just wondering if it's necessary to update wikilinks so that they point to a Wikipedia:Red link? I think it's best to leave 4th / 5th Division clubs as non-links as they are unlikely to be created or maintained... what do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Datasmack (talkcontribs) 22:34, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

your pointless trivia section[edit]

LOL thats funny. Have heard of Nasazzi's Baton before, but never one in reverse. Problem is you dont know you're holding the chalice at the time. Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:01, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well my little tidbit is that I was the ball boy for the first round titanic clash between Kingsley (my local team) and Rockingham. Just got so sick of seeing the guys lose 20-30 seconds each time the ball went out on the far side of the pitch, i thought i'd do something about it. Got a big thank you from the referee and assistant, and a reprimand from some local numpty official who though i was doing it to advantage Rockingham !!! The article Mounties Wanderers FC has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG, nothing notable

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Problems with Template:2013 Major League Soccer season table[edit]

Continuity for one. No previous or subsequent season follows your changes. Not understanding the purpose of the templates is another. Edit warring is the least of your worries. Cheers. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:19, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Victoria round 2[edit]

Im about to post 95% of Victoria round 2, in 5 minutes. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:33, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, bugger, bugger, ALL of my tie number are now out because of the 2 SEQ games . . . i hate this article soo much at the moment. posting 95% in 10 minutes. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:36, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: 10-4! Thanks dude. Just a heads up, a fair few teams from the lower Vic leagues pulled out and joined a rival, non-FFA body. (Kinda like the SA issue we spoke of). Anyway, most of the teams in National Divs 6, 7 and 8 are not actually correct. It's on my "TO DO" list to fix that and the 2015 FFV page.
EDIT - My bad!!! Fuck the numbers. Just concentrate on the important stuff! :P - J man708 (talk) 14:38, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
i am initially putting in their Tier number from last year, realizing with promotions and demotions, i'll get some of them wrong. And as we know, there are no official National levels anyway south of the NPL. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:41, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with that last sentence. I mean, the Men's 2 in NSW is pretty 3rd division-esque. Did you see that Bankstown City signed both Dean Heffernan and Michael Beauchamp? :P
That's off topic! I reckon they should be counted as third division clubs. Why shouldn't they? I feel like this is like suggesting that the Conference in England is a third division, behind the EPL and the Football League. I dunno, I feel as though it makes the FFA Cup look unprofessional if half the teams included didn't have division numbers next to them. The same with crowd figures for the FFA Cup games. Those were so hard to come across, but thankfully it looks better with them all. Now, if only we could get all the attendance figures for the NPL Finals Series... - J man708 (talk) 14:57, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
am doing Vic round 3 now over the next hour or so. Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:42, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Qualifiers vs. Match Winners[edit]

I went to Undo/Revert the Undo of yours that I did, but you beat me to it !!! I think there should be a consistent format, where it should be Match Winners if you KNOW in advance (like NSW where they do the whole draw in one go), or just say Qualifier (WITHOUT A NUMBER), in those cases where there will later be a draw for that round (which is most Federations). what do you think ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 08:25, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And Bingo was his name-o!
@Matilda Maniac:, I agree that it looks inconsistant, but it's all just temporary fillers, anywho. Check out NSW's Fifth Round. I fucked those up majorly, but it might actually work out okay, provided the ACT has more than 16 teams enter (which they should just). The rest of the rounds before and after that don't match it, but I couldn't be assed editing them to a 1-40 system, which is why they start at 9 and go to 48. Another little inconsistancy, but I couldn't care less. It's all gonna be paved over with, with the proper names soon. The Tasmanian one had annoyed me as it had the placeholder positions, which made it out that the two previous round qualifiers came from match 3 and like 14 from the previous round. It just got to my OCD. :P - J man708 (talk) 08:32, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think I might make some of these changes, but not until after the ACT and NT draws. All of the teams will be known at that point, wont they?, or are there still more things happening in queensland that havent been announced ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 08:52, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Xcept I will make them Ties and not Matches, to refer to the column we have called ties (it has to be useful for some purpose). Matilda Maniac (talk) 08:54, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Hahaha. I knew that was there for a reason! Keep in mind, that the early round ties change a shitload as match details and draws come in! - J man708 (talk) 08:59, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that's why the 2014 format was less of a cluster-fcuk than this years !!!! I get it why you went this way; I like the round six and seven sections it makes sense at the 'pointy end', but it is really confusing in the middle bits as different federations are in different rounds at the same time.
I'm now happy to update the Tie numbers (and match winner numbers eg TAS 1 and 2) before the ACT and NT draws, as it doesnt really take that long in my text editor. The NT draw in on Tuesday, do we know when ACT are going to announce something ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:44, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: I daresay that they'll follow suit shortly. No official word, but I can't help but group them and the ACT together, as they have similar numbers. How on Earth did you find out about the NT?! Their website is never updated! TheSelectFew and I reckoned that we'd almost have to make some phone calls to Darwin, just to get some of the results. :P I agree that the top of the page does look clustered, but it's still nothing compared to this! I've always felt okay about the FFA Cup page, as a lot more people work on the FA Cup page and they seem content with the way theirs is. Can you imagine making a First Round fixture page for this comp here? :P - J man708 (talk) 00:16, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The NT : and also @TheSelectFew: . . . .the answer is Twitter !!. Football Fed NT Twitter I think lots of clubs at the moment - for example Gridiron West here in Perth, sadly do not have the volunteers to maintain their website, but rely on Facebook (and sometime Twitter) to communicate with the world Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:24, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Eeep. They said "NorZone" FFA Cup. Meaning that the comp is likely only to contain about 8 clubs... NT 2014 Season Index. I was hoping we'd get along the lines of 16... - J man708 (talk) 00:31, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not Eeep yet. There should be some FICA (Alice) entrants, maybe a team from Katherine or Tennant Creek, and also there are other Darwin/top end teams that are not in the NorZone Premier Division. I am assuming it will be regionally based and regions come together at semi-final stage, like NNSW, but hopefully without their screwball format logic. Cant wait for Alice springs teams like NicklePimps and Cunning Stunts to join in !!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:57, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: They sound more like indoor soccer team names. Hahaha. I was hoping more like teams such as Booraloola Cyclones - Cyclones Cup Final - J man708 (talk) 01:27, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Guys is there an increase in numbers of clubs participating this season? Looking over the numbers there wont be much of an increase, certainly not double of last season. J man708Matilda Maniac — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 07:23, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSelectFew: This is what we know so far, mofo. Not quite enough yet, but we still have a few more states (ACT, QLD, NT) to 100% confirm it all. My guess is that we'll just surpass last season's by a "select few". Har-har-har. - J man708 (talk) 07:40, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
haha ffs. My name is a reference to when incidents happen at a sporting event and they refer to them as a select few.
Im curious to see you put up the round 1 for Queensland. On the Cup website it doesnt mention those 4 Playing. I will never doubt you bae but do you have a link?
Ps good win. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 14:11, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It was a shit win! Hahaha. Here's the QLD Rd 1 - Sunshine Coast link @TheSelectFew:
PS - You should ALWAYS doubt me. :D
PPS - Did you see the 17-1 scoreline? - J man708 (talk) 15:17, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
do you have a reference for the ONLY 4 teams from Alice springs? is it the wonderful NT news again ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:41, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: You know, you COULD just trust me. :P Football Fed NT FB post. I also rang them up this morning before they put it online to get the numbers and shit. I'd call this one safely confirmed now. - J man708 (talk) 09:44, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
but it says just a few rows up You should ALWAYS doubt me.
@Matilda Maniac: Not that you should trust me, just that you could. Hahaha. But yeah, now we're just waiting on the ACT and a few sub-QLD matches. :D - J man708 (talk) 11:39, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

League table conflict[edit]

Hi, I promised you a message and I will talk to you here first and get your opinion before we throw more dirt on eachother at the football project.

There are currently two areas we are not agreeing on

  1. Yellow or blue color
  2. Information in qualification row.

The first issue has been discussed for a long long time with 2 in favour of change, 1 neutral and 2 oppose and all arguments are well known.

The second issue has not been discussed that much, but I am sure you can understand that is feels weird for me to show info for one team and not the other if both qualify for same competitions. In earlier discussion we have always made something like "Qualification to Club World Cup and CL Group stage" (to not make it to long, but CL can also be champions league) with wikilinks to the correct places and a note with explanation. For the second team "Qualification to Champions League Group stage". As I said notes can/should be used as explanation but the info should still be in that column. Otherwise readers may think only teams 3-6 go to some sort of final series.

I would like to discuss some sort of agreememt here as we both cant get what we want. I am actually willing to drop my vote at the yellow color issue for new created tables (but I wont change current tables, they are way to many) and let you go on with yellow color IF you agree that it could be useful to show what the teams qualify for in qualification column and have the note as explanation and not to have competitions only there. We can still have the team qualifying for two competitions in a separate color if you like but both competitions should be there.

At least we should discuss both issues more if we cant agree, but I am willing to compromise here. As a note I dont think the current "grey" you added for club world cup is "good enough" it is almost white, but perhaps we can find a better color.

What do you say? QED237 (talk) 17:07, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Qed237: Sorry, it's 3:45am here, so my reasoning skills are weird and sleep focused. Are you suggesting to show all the tournaments the team qualifies for in the side column? I get the idea behind that, I've always thought that it would be better to show the highest possible tournament only, but if you're suggesting that showing multiple tournaments is the way to go, then I'm good to go with that. I'm just curious as to what we would do if a club qualified for more than two tournaments? It might be a little chaotic if we showed more than two. As for the colours, I think @Arbero: has shown that he's willing to help out with colouring the necessary tables. I think creating a checklist akin to the one that was created for the new style of tables would be a good way for us to make sure we've hit every nail on the head. That list worked well. Once we can take care of last season/this season, we can work forward on that one. I wholeheartedly agree that the grey colour is shit, I was just chucking it on and then was going to show a few of the pages that had been edited on the Football Talk Page. I initially tried to add that purple colour, but it got all fucked up with the Intertoto Cup utilising the same colours, which just caused chaos. One of the reasons I've been strongly on the case for yellow is for the future. The A-League is set to expand, and there's been talks around of an all-inclusive Europa League style secondary club tournament for South East Asia, in which case blue would be used there. I just think that flip flopping for each Australian league page would've looked terrible. What colour do you think would go well there? Unfortunately red, blue, green and yellow have been taken... Sorry if that's not what you were talking about, but again, it's almost 4am. Hahaha. - J man708 (talk) 17:20, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This happens to be one of the user talk pages I have watchlisted, so I can't help but notice this discussion. I think QED's compromise is very reasonable. I have been a bit less active lately, so I haven't tracked the CWC colours; Color lists red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and violet as colours. I think only orange is not used currently (although brown could be an alternative). As to a club qualifying to three tournaments, do you have an example of that ever happening? Previous precedent is that unlikely scenarios can be handled on a case-by-case basis (e.g. relegation and continental tournament qualification at once). CRwikiCA talk 20:52, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The CWC colour could look good as a bronze colour, depending on the shade so too could orange. The club being in three tournaments is more hypothetical, but I'm sure if that happened it would have to be something like the AFC Champions League, Gulf Cup and Relegated? I guess we could cross that bridge when/if it happens. I've re-read @Qed237:'s comments and I think I got it last night. You are suggesting mentioning both the CWC and Champions League, or the Champions League and the A-League finals series in the same box. I could work with that.
Would you agree that it's best to lead off with the CWC, then in order listing them as CL, then International/Regional/Continental Cups, and then National Finals/Playoffs? (I think that covers most of them) - J man708 (talk) 01:23, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think you have understood to my proposal. I will clarify anyway:
  1. We use the color proposal at WT:FOOTY with yellow for domestic post season and have green for CL/proomtion and blue as secondary continental tournament.
  2. We find a new color for Club World Cup (CWC), orange? gold? purple?
  3. We display all tournaments in the qualification column and not hide them in notes, for example like in this diff in A-league table. When there are many competitions the wording can easily be shortened like "Qualification to CWC, Champions League and Final Series" we can omit rounds then (maybe spell out CWC).
Can everyone accept this, and should I take it to FOOTY? QED237 (talk) 16:04, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And of course, biggest tournament first (according to colors also when someone is both green and yellow we show green as most important first), thats why I wrote in order CWC, CL, Final series. QED237 (talk) 16:09, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This seems okay to me, with the proposed changes, the table would now become (using a placeholder FEDCBA colour for CWC):

Type Green Blue Yellow Red Black Colour TBD
National club
Top flight
Champions League/Copa Libertadores
Top in country green1, lighter green for earlier rounds
Second continental tournament
Top in country blue1, lighter blue for earlier rounds
Tertiary continental tournament
National play-offs/post-league play for title or continental cup entries
Relegation and relegation play-offs
Lighter colours depending on rounds
Teams does not play a full season and/or their results are expunged or void Global tournament
Club World Cup
National club
Lower divisions
Direct promotion
Tier 1 play-offs between leagues/groups at same level when no promotion exists
Cup win qualification for continental tournament
Domestic cup qualification
Promotion play-offs
Tier 2 play-offs between leagues/groups at same level when no promotion exists
Relegation and relegation play-offs
Lighter colours depending on rounds
Teams does not play a full season and/or their results are expunged or void Testing #CC9966
International club Direct to next round Secondary result (play-off or lower tournament) Tertiary result (play-off or lower tournament) Relegation (if applicable) Teams does not play a full season and/or their results are expunged or void Testing #DDAA77
National teams Direct to next round Secondary result (e.g. play-off) Tertiary result Relegation (if applicable) Teams does not play a full season and/or their results are expunged or void

I fully agree with QED's summary. I would pick a proper colour for the CWC and then take it to WT:FOOTY. CRwikiCA talk 16:57, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@CRwikiCA and Qed237: Alright, I reckon that's as close to an agreement that we all seem content with. BTW - That Copper colour you used as a filler isn't that bad. :P
Do you guys reckon it would be better to use the semi-full names? Ie - Club World Cup (not FIFA Club World Cup or just CWC), same with Champions League (as opposed to CAF Champions League or just CL)? Any ideas what colour would look best to signify that the Club World Cup is more prestigious? Gold may look close to yellow, I think a bronze colour may work? - J man708 (talk) 17:21, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We can leave for sure anything out that is not ambiguous, so FIFA can be dropped. I don't think many people would know what CWC would mean, I would say use "Qualification to Club World Cup and Champions League" (with appropriate wikilinks). A proper bronze colour would work, the medal table bronze is "#CC9966", which might be slightly too dark; "#DDAA77" might be more suitable. CRwikiCA talk 18:06, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We have in older discussions (somewhere) decided not to display year and association (against my will, but I comply with that consensus). That means "2015 FIFA Club World Cup" would be "Club World Cup" and 2014-15 AFC Champions League" should be "Champions League" (with wikilink to correct season torunament like [[2014–15 UEFA Champions League#Group stage|Champions League Group stage]]), in other words not AFC. As User:CRwikiCA says CWC might be hard for readers to understand, I only used it as example when there was 3 tournaments and sentence may get long. About the color I really like the copper/bronze color in table above, have not looked at the other suggestions though. QED237 (talk) 18:38, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@CRwikiCA and Qed237: I've chucked the two colours just randomly into the table, with wording that is in blue and black, so you can see how it looks. Which do you guys reckon we should propose of the three? - J man708 (talk) 10:50, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Without having seen them in article, my favourite is the top one. QED237 (talk) 11:46, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with the top one as well. CRwikiCA talk 15:11, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@CRwikiCA and Qed237: Cool. Works well enough for me. What's the next step? (Unfortunately I'm gonna be a touch inactive over the next few weeks for this) - J man708 (talk) 15:37, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think Qed237 should present the compromise in the thread. Ping the other commenters, unless there would be serious objections at WT:FOOTY over the weekend, I think we can roll it out early next week. CRwikiCA talk 16:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@CRwikiCA: Sounds good. If I'm not around at the time to vote, feel free to link this as a vote from me to do this (kinda voting by proxy). - J man708 (talk) 16:46, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like the best idea. Should I mention everything with color, wording, and the copper for CWC or do we have to open a new discussion for the wording? QED237 (talk) 17:06, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Either or. Perhaps just pinging them may do the trick? In saying that, it's only been mainly us and @Arbero: who have been vocal on the topic. - J man708 (talk) 17:09, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I will make it later tonight, have to make dinner know and family evening (friday today!) so dont have the time now. Happy weekend everyone! QED237 (talk) 17:12, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Thanks! Enjoy! - J man708 (talk) 17:14, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

thx[edit]

and thanks for my Barnstar ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: NP. I was waiting for the birthday to hit. I think I'll try and fix the Tuncurry Forster thing now. :P - J man708 (talk) 13:22, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Olwyn[edit]

having been waiting for months for the first FFA Cup games in Perth, we have a double header on saturday evening / saturday night, but we also have Cyclone Olwyn bearing down on the coast [1] and the remnant Low is going to bucket down on Perth all Saturday - i might have to change plans and go to the Perth Glory Wellington Phoenix game - at least I'd be (mostly) dry in the big stand - not much shelter at Dalmatinac Park.

@Matilda Maniac: I tell you what, watching a match like the FFA Cup games during a Cyclone would be kinda hilarious. Not so much the flying Bunning's chairs, but moreso the ballboys chasing the ball for the next month across the Nullarbor to retrieve it! - J man708 (talk) 15:52, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT - While you're here, check this out and tell me what you think? I showed it to @TheSelectFew: and he seemed pretty keen for me to make it live. I'm thinking of making a few back to like 2008 or so and setting them all live in one swoop. Thoughts, mofo? - J man708 (talk) 15:54, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I dont think it is the right format, as EVERYTHING was completely state based until the linking to a national NPL structure came along. I much prefer your 2014 FFSA season format, although youve seen that I modified it a bit for the WA version to include reference to Cool Ridge Cup. I think a season overview article by State is better, as you can have different competitions within it that still fall under the Federation's umbrella - e.g. A FEW of the lower divisions, maybe link to a cup article , and eventually, the tables for the Women's Premier Division (womens soccer becoming more and more high profile, so that it should be acceptable for notability tests). Since some of the State-based Season articles already exist, beefing them up woulds seem to me to be of more relevance. I'm going to do the WA Seasons back to 2000-ish anyway. Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:08, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you guys think we should have a squiz at what England do for there's and use that as a base mode? And I forget how to sign comments:/ TheSelectFew (talk) 02:28, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSelectFew: You did fine! I originally tried to set up from the Football League pages as much as possible when I did the first FFSA season page ages and ages back. I get where you're coming from Tildawg about only containing several lower leagues, but the decision comes at what point do we deem one division unworthy and another one worthy. Not only that, but being a page devoted to the individual member federation, we can probably justify having their lower leagues mentioned on the page, as long as it's just a table and a finals series, surely. As for the State League Cups, I personally feel as though they'd be better at the bottom of the article, as having them under the first division feels as though it's implying that only top flight state teams can compete. If it's at the bottom of the page, then it probably will look a lot better, coming in after all the league tables. - J man708 (talk) 03:50, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
1. I might be one of the goddam ballboys
2. drainage. . . . games may not even happen
3. gotta park the car somewhere - falling trees / powerlines / bunnings chairs . . . I dont think so.
Anyway, he will just be a storm as he heads south
@Matilda Maniac: Ah, screw actually being a ballboy! I mean, it's a noble art! Someone has to do it, but if you're gonna get soaked, that kinda sucks. See if you can get a free drink out of it. Hahaha. That reminds me that one of my cricket club's A-Grade players managed to hit his own car with a six. I daresay that made more damage than a flimsy Bunning's chair! I myself am toying with the idea of seeing MetroStars vs Mount Gambier International. MetroStars have started slowly, but it could possibly end out as a cricket scoreline. Is it bad that I like watching those matches, too? - J man708 (talk) 16:04, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You follow MetroStars through thick and thin. Enjoy Thick whilst you can !! --Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:08, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: And yet, I had a trial with Adelaide Raiders, back in my teenage years, when I was a good 20kg lighter and more nimble. How times change? To be fair, it's already looking a teeny bit concerning. The coach went after last season's NPL Finals miracle (let's face facts, winning away in WA, Vic and NSW is the hardest way to do it). This season, they're already a little off the pace! Not a huge concern in a 26 match season, but it would be causing a few worried thoughts around T.K. Shutter Reserve, I'm sure.
PS - I hope they get to host a televised FFA Cup match there and not at Marden (which admittedly is about 5 mins away by car). It's quite a cozy little complex at TK. - J man708 (talk) 16:14, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perth Glory are currently painful to follow. Saturday in the rain will be a 0-0 draw as Wellington will park the bus, and in 1-2 weeks Perth will all of a sudden be sitting in 5th place. . . . I was really hoping we'd be able somehow to qualify for Champions League - the one year we qualified they cut the number of spots from 2.5 to 2, and then raised it back to 2 the following year. Thats why I's rather see an FFA Cup match with some goals (and penalty shootouts if necesssary are fun too). Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:18, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS : in fact it looks like they can drop to 4th as early as THIS SUNDAY !! --Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:19, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, what's happened to the Glory? As much as they can't play against Adelaide United ;), they seem to had been doing exceptionally well until the Asian Cup. Now, they can only draw matches. That logjam at the top of the table is gonna be really interesting! As long as Melbourne Victory don't win, I'll be okay! In saying that, I think they'd have to be favourites. Glory can be 4th by Sunday... Damn... That's weird to think of. Sydney FC are such a dark horse this season... As for the Champions League thing, they would've taken on the team that Brisbane took on from Thailand in the Playoff. That would've been in Perth, too. I daresay that Perth would've made the Group Stage, wherein the Thai team made the Knockout Stages. Once again, I think that the Glory would've gotten that far too. Realistically, they could've made the Semis from that. But thanks to the demise of the two QLD teams, the AFC decided to help us out and take a spot! Thanks guys! *Rolls eyes*
The 'Nux actually remind me a lot of Fremantle Dockers. They're another team that will often fuck up the chances of a team going for the minor premiership. Unlikely to win the Final, but always a tough team to come up against, especially at home. - J man708 (talk) 16:27, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Revert ?[edit]

I think your last edit to 2015 FFA Cup preliminary rounds should be undone, for the reasons I've put up on the talk page about MetroStars. But I'd rather see if there's comments about this (including but perhaps not only from you) rather than rushing in and undoing your good work !!! cheers --Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:07, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

JMan's powers spoiled my afternoon  ??[edit]

with your premature posting of the defeat of ECU Joondalup by Stirling, which really must have been the reserves or U18's score. Was about to head off to Macedonia Park, but changed my mind (on the basis that the game must have been played early) . . . went to see Joondalup United (a typically british "pub-side") get beaten 0-2 by Ashfield instead ; and was ball boy on the far side as usual !! Luckily the rain held off. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:33, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Shit! Hella sorry dude, I dun goofed! I indeed put down the score of a youth fixture, which is also named the FFA Cup. My bad! At least you saw some football! I missed seeing MetroStars win 13-0 on the weekend... :( - J man708 (talk) 09:35, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Over here now called State League Reserves Cup or State League U18s Cup. Usually the reserves kickoff around 1230, if the seniors are on at 3PM. But no extra time in these cups - straight to penalties where necessary !!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:49, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you reckon that's the correct way to go, though? Extra time should always be used! Did you manage to catch any of the South Hobart live stream? - J man708 (talk) 09:55, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, didnt see South Hobart - prefer to see matches live if i can. Only one of my 6 'local' teams - Joondalup City - is still in the Cup, so i'll go and support them next time (unless they're drawn AWAY against your favourite South West Phoenix - I'm not that fanatical a supporter to drive 2 hours to see them! Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:48, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
DAMN ! Joondalup City drawn AWAY against Mandurah City FC . . . . still too far for me to travel - I'm not that fanatical a supporter to drive even 1.2 hours to see them! Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:35, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: The stream and match were actually both really good. I think they might have it up on thr FFT YouTube page, aswell...
From the looks of things, all eight Round 4 SA fixtures are taking place within a 30 min drive from Adelaide CBD. The unfortunate thing about it is that I selfishly would love fixtures to be spread across a weekend, allowing me to see more than just one match... I dunno if I asked this, but did you go along to either of the Stirling Lions/Bayswater City FFA Cup matches last season? - J man708 (talk) 10:26, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
i saw Stirling Lions beat ECU Joondalup in the semi, then saw Baysie beat Stirling in the Cup Final. Also saw both the round of 32 games, when they were beaten by Brisbane Roar/Melbourne Victory respectively - didnt go to any others as i was away in Eritrea for a lot of the rest, but back to see Perth Glory lose in Hindmarsh in the FFA Cup final, down at my local pub. I saw at least one game from each round of the qualifiers, except had to only see the reserves play where it conflicted with my daughter's netball. This year, FW are looking at the semis (Round 7) being on different days, which will maximise crowds, and also looking at using the WACA for the round of 32 games. I'm now booked to go to West Africa mid-June, which sucks, as its the middle of the rainy season (humiditiy's shit, roads are shit, mossies are shit, islamist extremists are shit, but at least Ebola no longer an issue ) Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:50, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Jesus, you're well traveled, huh? I was just about to comment about Ebola just as I read that last part. I'm picturing the roads to look like the Top Gear episode when they tried to find the source of the River Nile in places like Rwanda and the Congo... At least tell me that you're not going to Nigeria on account of an email sent by the prince or something? :P Hahaha. One of my guilty pleasures is reading the contents of the scam-baiting website 419 Eater. It's hilarious!
Utilising the WACA could be interesting. I know when Adelaide United played Malaga at Adelaide Oval, that it pulled a shitload of people, but the consensus seemed to be that the view was kinda poor. As much as Adelaide is only home to 1.3mil, I think that we desperately need a proper football stadium that isn't an oval. It would also help our cause for a rugby team... It's crazy that you're heading off in mid-June and that is only 2 months away. What the actual hell?... Where has this year gone?! - J man708 (talk) 14:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Substitution[edit]

from Capital Football . . . FFA CUP: BULLS STAMPEDE OVER KNIGHTS CUP AMBITIONS : "Finally, the match did witness what must have been of the most unusual substitutions in Westfield FFA Cup history, Bulls’ English defender Lewis Grieve having to leave the action with twenty minutes to play to pick up his girlfriend, arriving from the UK, from the airport!" ROFL Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:54, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: - That takes the cake, right there. Hahaha. I'm sure she could've waited. I mean, if it was that desperate, why play? I've waited at an airport before. If it was anything like what I experienced, he spend an hour talking to an old bloke who was also waiting for the same flight to come in. :P - J man708 (talk) 15:20, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

edits of finals series on clubs pages[edit]

Hey mate,

regarding your recent edits of the finals series on clubs seasons pages (Ade Utd and BRoar), did you notice that you changed the structure of the footballbox, as not the rest of the page?

--SuperJew (talk) 14:11, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@SuperJew: Howdy. I just copied them straight from the A-League page. Feel free to redo them if they're wrong. I rarely, if ever edit season articles anyway. - J man708 (talk) 14:22, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's the cheap, quick way to edit, and as here it leads to mistakes. Well then, please leave me the season articles for the finals. I will be around until the day after the Grand Final and will be able to edit them. Cheers --SuperJew (talk) 14:42, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

removal of CSL[edit]

I noticed you've removed the CSL from articles such as 2013 FFSA season. Rationale ? Notability ? I was also considering/thinking of trimming back the number of divisions that you added last December in 2014 Football West season by omitting the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th divions of the sunday amateurs on notability ground. Matilda Maniac (talk) 11:38, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it as it is a Collegiate affiliate league and nothing to do with the FFSA. It was a mistake to include them to be honest. They've had two clubs nominate to enter the FFA Cup. They deserve to be there about as much as the Mount Gambier league. The main reason I included those Sunday Leagues is that they indirectly all promote nowadays to the NPL. From memory, nothing stops a Sunday league club from rising through the ranks to the NPL, which is why I figured that league within itself is moreso suitable to have listed. I'm sure I read it on some Football WA form somewhere. :P - J man708 (talk) 11:49, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In reality it is highly unlikely that the winner of the Sunday amateur league can move up to Division 2 of the Saturday leagues, due to lack of meeting FW requirements for facilities, players work commitments and availability for saturday, desire to be in a division other than a strictly amateur one etc., and the reverse of these for consideration of the potential relegation from State League 2 back to the Sunday leagues. The fact that it is possible in itself is not grounds for notability of the entire sunday league structure.. Then there are 12 Metropolitan League divisions underneath the Sunday leagues, which have the potential to be able to be promoted to the sunday leagues, so therefore they indirectly all promote nowadays to the NPL. But below the Sunday Premier division, there is little notability of the lower divisions amongst the Perth football community here, let alone at the level I think is required for Wikipedia. I suggest that if a particular team rises up and becomes notable - like perhaps Joondalup United FC who were effective a pub team 3 years ago - then on an individual team basis they may achieve notability worthy of inclusion. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:20, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Then just delete it, if it absolutely has to go. I do feel if you're gonna keep the Sunday Premier League, that it makes sense to show what leagues directly and indirectly promote into it. I saw the Sunday league as being different from the CSL, as the CSL is purely a league for old scholar's style clubs, whereas the Sunday League is open to entry from any football club that passes the requirements that have been set. To me, it's kinda apples and oranges.

Note[edit]

Hi there JMAN, from Portugal,

per this discussion (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#.22Betis.22_or_.22Real_Betis.22.3F), no need to make fun of me, I was just trying to help and never implied "you do as I say, period", sorry if that was what came across. Per the Spanish naming conventions of football clubs, the clubs is called Betis AND Real Betis, 50%-50%, so I usually add "Betis" in box per compression purposes and "Real Betis" in storyline, in the first instance the name appears.

Don't you think that in storylines (both of the club or an individual player), if we write just "Betis/Zaragoza/Murcia" people will know what club(s) we are referring to? Also, I am not that of a newbie, I have been here for nine years, but asked that my account be vanished due to a run-in with a troll.

Attentively, happy editing --84.90.219.128 (talk) 19:11, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ah, I see where you are coming from ("end of story"), but when I wrote that bit I meant it as "end of (written) storyline in any given article", not "end of story and do as I say". Thanks for your quick and kind reply --84.90.219.128 (talk) 10:10, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ad City vs Croydon Kings[edit]

You going to the game on Sunday? I'm on a road trip from Sydney to Perth and likely to get to Adelaide on Sunday, so i'll try to be there !!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:37, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh seriously? I'll try and get there if you do then! Keep me posted, if you can! Also, it's not at Hindmarsh, but West Beach (which is next to the Adelaide Airport), as they're relaying the turf there, I think. I've never actually seen a match there live, so it should be interesting. I'm surprised that they didn't choose Marden, which is where the FFA Cup games took place (as Hindmarsh had its seats replaced). Either way, Hindmarsh is never ready, it seems. Hahaha. - J man708 (talk) 10:28, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Soccer in Australia[edit]

Hi, I notice you have been doing a fair bit of work for Australian soccer. And it seems you are also interested in the old Fury. (I have made a few pages for them earlier this year too). Anyway, I digress. I was actually hoping I could get some input from you regarding a thread I created: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Australia task force#Seasons in Australian Soccer. Main issue is that we have some NPL tournaments and ACL tournaments on the same article page even though they are approximately an entire year apart. I think there should be some consistency. Please let me know your thoughts on the issue. Also, please feel free to invite anyone else that you know currently working on Australian soccer to become involved too —Eccy89 (talk) 09:32, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cooma[edit]

I got carried away with changing Cooma to Cooma Tigers which is correct for 2015, but less correct for 2014. therefore decided to leave 2014 and prior just as Cooma.

The team that currently plays in the NPL is Tigers FC, which is actually now a partnership between two clubs, Cooma FC and Brindabella Blues. See here. It is separate to and not fully integrated with either of the two clubs. So its probably technically wrong to refer to them as either just Cooma or as Cooma Tigers - however the senior team is based out of Cooma. They are now referred to in the press as Cooma Tigers see Canberra Times, and foxsportspulse as well. Ive also changed the template for 2015 that is used for them to make that name Cooma Tigers for 2015. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:55, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All G. Although, it mightn't hurt to call them Cooma Tigers, as we've done with the Hobart Zebras, who go by the name Tilford often and are also called the Hobart Jeep Zebras for sponsorship reasons more than just Zebras. I'll leave it in your hands, but we're set for a few changes with team names. I know that Beachside in Tasmania are going to create a partnership with another club (can't for the life of me remember at the moment... Alcohol does that. :P ), but they're set to have a name change come into the fray at the end of the season/start of next. - J man708 (talk) 15:10, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey mate, been loving the work you've been doing for NPLSA and prior to that. Any chance you can flesh out some of the older articles (e.g. 2008 FFSA Super League with a results template? cheers, Eccy89 (talk) 12:06, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hahaha, Greenland eh? How intriguing. Np on the results table man. Thought you would have been is all. Being the South Australian data-loving character you are. I didnt really think that you would have wanted the results for those cross-state articles. I personally find the tables a great add as it shows all the results without having a massive data dump in listing every single match for the season. (And in the case of the lower leagues we are attempting to fix, can rarely find all the info to use a 'footballbox collapsible template' effectively). —Eccy89 (talk) 13:17, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hey man, just another quick one. Do you know if the consensus is to just keep 2015 National Premier Leagues a bare-bones minimum (table + finals bracket) and have one state federation page (for all 'major' leagues) e.g. 2015 FFSA season where you can expand the top tier with extra info including promotion/relegation, leading goalscorers, awards etc. And is the consensus also that it should be done on this page only and not have a separate page for the top tier that includes all these extra bits (e.g. a "2015 NPL South Australia" or a "2015 NPL NSW" page)?? thanks, Eccy89 (talk) 13:33, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't the Scottish link be more comparable to our national page? and I've often chuckled at the WikiProject Football's season template page, it clearly says that the A-League seasons should have the word "season" at the end of it, however we have clearly ignored it... (not to mention the headings are completely different). thanks for the help, goodnight. —Eccy89 (talk) 13:51, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cumberland[edit]

why is Cumberland in the promotion/relegation playoffs when they came 3rd ? needs a few words of explanation ? and then updating the table too. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:38, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hakoah Sydney City East[edit]

I provided two extra references about Hakoah Sydney City East promotion after your first revert in this article, and you reverted again in the table but didnt remove the text or infobox. Why was this necessary ? I have added two further references to the Promotion and relegation system in NSW, and also specific to Hakoah Sydney City East promotion to NPL1. There are now 5 references to the system (which by the way you highlighted to me yourself about Marconi relegation) and to Hakoah's promotion, so there should be no need to revert this for a third time. Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:40, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, dude. I was 100% sure that promotion from NPL 2-NPL 1 in the NSW comp was based on the finals series, as it is in other states. I wish that there were a blanket rule for it, honestly. The sooner the post-season finals series is scrapped in favour of a slightly longer season, the better. Again though, sorry about that. I was clearly wrong. - J man708 (talk)

Wikipedia is not a live score service[edit]

as you are well aware !! Matilda Maniac (talk) 11:22, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, but as has been mentioned before on the Project Football pages, there is a difference between including a score which can change and an individual's time of their goal, as this is static, once the time has been defined. I know, Project Football confuses me at times, aswell. :P - J man708 (talk) 11:26, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then just dont post live scores, using justification of some weird and 'confusing' item mentioned on the Project Football pages. Wikipedia is not a live score service. Matilda Maniac (talk) 11:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But it wasn't the score, just the scorers. I'm not trying to justify it, as I read that it was the correct course of action on Project Football. Nonetheless, I will refrain from doing so from now on. - J man708 (talk) 11:38, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I do not understand your last edit on 2016 FFA Cup preliminary rounds for Queensland Round 2. AET but doesnt have a winner. It looks like again you are using Wikipedia as a live score service. This doesnt appear to be the correct course of action according to Project Football. If so, can you please desist from attempting to use Wikipedia as a live score service, and post results after full-time and final result is known? Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:11, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Are you talking about adding the † to the table where the game had been confirmed by SoccerAust to have reached extra time? From the point I added it, it was static, as full time had ended quite some time earlier and the game was running through extra time. Again, there's a difference between making mention of something that cannot change like the game reaching extra time, a player being red carded, etc, and something that can such as a clean sheet, the overall scorers list and the score. BTW - I had the intention of adding the extra time/penalties result, but ended out falling asleep before it were announced. - J man708 (talk) 19:58, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
that argument about stasis appears to me to be quite banal - why not just post after the game has finished? or if you have to go to sleep, go to sleep, and someone esle will update the result. Is there an urgency to 'post first', or even try to justify posting mid-match information about a red card or extra-time using some 'rule' about being static vs. not-static? Wikipedia is not a live score service. But I think you interpret that differently to me. Matilda Maniac (talk) 20:36, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I didn't know I was going to fall asleep! I'm blaming the low blood-pressure pills for that one! There's no urgency, I was just getting it ready as extra time had been going on for half an hour already, anyway. - J man708 (talk) 20:54, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
and i currently have high blood pressure, so next time i get to Adelaide (or you get to Perth), the two us can equilibrate ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 21:29, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Mate, I had no idea I was in such a shit shape until I went into hospital and they figured out that I had Atrial flutter, which brought on a Pulmonary edema, which inturn was surprisingly painless, although they did have to stop my heart a couple of times in order to get see if I could be fixed! Going back on Friday to literally get defibbed while unconscious, to see if the drugs have worked... Shit's pretty messed up, Tildawg! As for the SA and ACT dates, I've not heard a thing from the FFSA. Last years' first round draw was conducted at halftime of a match, so it might still be a while off still. Although, I think the SA qualifiers will start in Round 2 instead of Round 3 this time. I'm expecting a little more than 32 teams. As for the ACT (and Tasmania for that matter), I'm actually a little surprised at the lack of information thus far. I think the dates have been filled in by someone from the 442 forums. I don't doubt the correctness of it, but I think they've made some phone calls or something similar to confirm it. In saying that, I thought I saw the dates of each round on the original nomination form from the FFSA, at least, which now has a link that no longer works.

Template:2015–16 A-League table[edit]

Hey mate. just a quick one with the table. What's the deal with our Champions League allocation? I thought we were still 2+1. I've posted on the talk page Template talk:2015–16 A-League table. I doubt our ranking is now sixth... —Eccy89 (talk) 13:16, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, not that it is really important at the moment, but someone fluffed the results matrix. Somehow Wellington and the Wanderers get to play themselves in the "third round" :-) too late at night for me to find the error, but I thought you would appreciate the attention to detail! —Eccy89 (talk) 13:22, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh LOL! Just realised that the second spot is for grand final winners, derrr! Like I said, it was getting late, haha.... —Eccy89 (talk) 22:50, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

rollback[edit]

Hi J man708. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Katietalk 07:23, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Understandable, but honestly, it is rather minute. I make a ton of minor edits such as grammar, so clicking the "minor edit" button is second nature. Also, I've noticed a lot of your recent user talk edits contain guidelines. Perhaps you'd find more success in mentioning why something exists, rather than just being a bureaucrat and linking guidelines. Name problem[edit]

The consensus for this was that football would be changed to soccer for articles related to soccer in Australia. I don't really see what the problem is, you even use the term "Australian Soccer" on your userpage. Also, I wasn't changing the terms because of personal grips, I was doing it because of the consensus.

NPL-WA potential relegation[edit]

The format was not speculative, and your comment about speculate over potential relegation, especially with both previous NPL seasons not containing any form of relegation is not correct. 2014 there was no relegation/promotion system. 2015 and 2016 (and beyond), there is a Promotion/Relegation system in place. The lowest team in the NPLWA is relegated, and the highest team in the All flags State League is promoted, PROVIDED THAT the club being promoted meets all of the NPLWA criteria (which includes issues about grounds, junior teams, governance etc.).

The 2015 situation was farcical . . . . football west came out with a list mid-season ([2]) stating which of the State League teams were eligible for promotion under all of these critieria - there were only 3. Mandurah City missed out as they didn't field an U-14 side. Instead they fielded 2 x U13 sides and missed out on a technicality. Mandurah City won the league and protests had already started to happen but to no avail. There are also certain circumstances where if the team that comes first doesn't meet the criteria, then if the second place team comes within 6 points of the first team and meets all of the criteria, then they can be promoted. Second was Ashfield 3 points adrift, but they didn't meet the criteria either. Of the 9 teams that failed, 6 of them missed out because of paperwork with their juniors, and this means that likely for 2016, all of them will get their shit together and be eligible. Of the others, one doesn't have the right grounds, one demoted, and i don't know about the teams that are being promoted to State League 1 for next year.

But at least we're not an administrative basket case like South Australia !!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:02, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not doubting that was the case in 2015, but is stating that "potential relegation" is the way to go? I've NEVER once seen that mentioned on ANY football table. The teams finishing last are either relegated or not relegated, provided they pass the requirements. This isn't something specific about WA. I know that SA had this "potential relegation" system in 2015. Hell, any team not playing with a fenced off ground is ineligible. This isn't something special and specific confined to the NPL WA. It's a rule for all the leagues that use promotion and relegation. Why only mention this on the WA page and not any of the others in world football? I swear sometimes you just do whatever is necessary to make the WA page as different as possible to the other state league pages. It's why I've basically given up on WA. I just think that no matter what changes I make to the WA pages, you'll change to how you want it anyway, even if it doesn't match any of the other state's articles.
Simply put, if you don't pass the criteria, you don't get promoted. Nobody bothers showing this on any tables because it's not needed. At the end of the season, if the team isn't relegated, you just take the relegation note off. You don't add one on to show "potential" relegation for the whole season, otherwise we'd have other notes stating "potentially in the NPL next season, provided they don't go bankrupt or fuck something else up chronically". If you want to show that promotion relies upon their passing of the governing body's criteria, show it as a footnote, which is where all other similar notes are shown. Again, I don't see why Western Australia has to be different? - J man708 (talk) 14:15, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, if that is the case, then it should just relegate one, without the "potential" tag. Please feel free to change it (and also on the "pyramid" league system page) - i dont have regular internet connection to be active at the moment (northern Eritrea sucks by the way).
The only thing I have done differently on the WA season page is to add the table for the Women's League, and when i get some more time I intend to roll out the similar format to the other state articles. I am part of the womens football task force, and want to add some information, but my feeling is that stand-alone articles might not meet notability guidelines in theri own right, but appending a table to a state-based summary should be OK (my view is the Womens first division will at least have the same level of profile/notability as the 3rd or 4th tier of the mens which is generally already displayed). . . again, i sometimes have a life and havent got aroundf to it yet (i think i got NSW finished or almost before i came over to Africa again a few weeks ago).
and to answer a question you posted on my talk page, I'm 51. Matilda Maniac (talk) 18:58, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not question the addition of the women's comp. Just the changes with things like the infobox, the initial position of the state cup info and the amateur leagues. I get that the Sunday League Divisions probably aren't notable, but I reckon that with getting rid of them completely, the premier division of the comp should also go. The page could neatly end with the state league division 2 and its lack of relegation, but the inclusion of just the premier league itself is a bit confusing (with it showing relegation to a division that doesn't exist on the page). Also, I've always just assumed you were late 20s or something. Clearly assumption is the mother of all stuff ups. PS - I reckon Eritrea's internet is probably similar to most of Australia's... Hahaha
- J man708 (talk) 19:10, 29 November 2015 (UTC).[reply]
No it is far worse. . . . power is intermittent in the capital, especially in the afternoons - on the minesite often no internet or wifi, only satellite phone access. Sometimes no power, which means no aircon, which means no bloody sleep. Its crapola. However, I have just come from far northeastern Congo (the big DRC not the little one) where the internet and mobile coverage is not only better than home right now, but probably better than my suburb in Perth will get in 2018 when the NBN gets rolled out. Go figure . Matilda Maniac (talk) 20:11, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
and i'll look next year at realigning the WA articles a bit to conform a bit more to the other equivalent federation pages, if it gives you some peace of mind. However i still want the 2016 FFA Cup qualifying rounds articvle to go back to the format used for 2014 - this years one was a needless head-fuck Matilda Maniac (talk) 20:16, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That friggin NBN... We have a new suburb here being built on an old racecourse, which means that they get the Labour NBN deal, meanwhile everywhere else gets shafted and will get that crappy Liberal one. I used to live on the peninsula that juts out from Port Adelaide. The reception of mobile internet and mobile phone coverage there was at best one bar. It's ridiculous. I've heard that we have the worst internet in the western world. Hearing that the DRC has better internet than us is pretty depressing! As for the FFA Cup qualifying article, you already know that you and I will never agree upon anything on that page. Hahaha - J man708 (talk) 20:46, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Too true !!! but someone has to pay for either the good one or the mediocre one - - - - $30-50 billion doesn't just happen you know.

. . . and sorry i cannot help myself here, but : I was having dinner with Garry Kasparov and there was a check tablecloth. It took him two hours to pass me the salt and pepper.

Always pick the mediocre one. Our government never seems to be known for its good ideas, just the shit ones that end out costing the taxpayer more. My favourite is the train station they rebuilt (admittedly this is state government), which after getting millions in upgrades is now going to be demolished in favour of an overpass that should've always existed from the get go... Also, I would've figured that the salt and pepper would at least move more like bishops or castles and be able to move in straight lines? - J man708 (talk) 21:22, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Western Sydney Wanderers[edit]

Hello,

Unfortunately, Western Sydney Wanderers has a very long name & a paranthesis (a) in front of it ! :)

Complete names of ALL teams in AFC Champions League sections are on "ONE" line in brackets.

Western Sydney Wanderers was on ONE line as W.S. Wanderers and you changed it to Western Sydney Wanderers on TWO lines, then i changed it to W. Sydney Wanderers on ONE line. Subsequently, you have changed it again ... :)

As you know, North, South, East & West could be abbreviated to N, S, E, W, respectively.

It's a matter of style; content remains the same. I just believe that full name of a team should remain intact & not be divided. Therefore, we are sometimes forced to use abbreviations and apply them to the finite space effectively.

MuyXmuy (talk) 07:47, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I changed it because it was indeed wrapping onto a second line, thus the nowrap, incorporating the flag, name and bracketed suffix.
I don't understand how using Western Sydney Wanderers' full name is causing it to wrap, when the West Asia and East Asia tables are alongside one another, causing no issues, but overall utilising more pixels in width?
Also, W. Sydney Wanderers probably isn't the correct way to shorten the name "west". Wstrn is probably a lot better, or subsequently WS Wanderers, which is used as their Twitter handle. - J man708 (talk) 08:03, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bonevacia goal --> Lee Ki-je own goal[edit]

Hi, What are you basing this change on? --SuperJew (talk) 11:25, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@SuperJew: The truth? :P - J man708 (talk) 11:40, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well the truth can be subjective. The Jets' report and Ultimate A-League list it as a goal by Bonevacia, though Phoenix and the FFA list it as an own goal by Lee Ki-je. Also Soccerway and Worldfootball agree with the own-goal call.
I'll message UAL about it, and hope the FFA can release non-contradicting reports.
--SuperJew (talk) 12:35, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
When in doubt, I'd side with the FFA... Which feels weird to say, to be honest. - J man708 (talk) 13:26, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No longer Champions ?[edit]

Confused about your edit to 2015 Football NSW season....

Continuity with the other pages. The state's champion is shown on all the other state federation pages as champions, as they are indeed just that, the state federation champions. It was just easier than going through each season's articles and adding the champions note to every team that won it. I have nothing against that happening, it was just a lot easier to change this one page to match the others than to change the other pages to match this one. - J man708 (talk) 11:48, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • from my perspective, making things consistently wrong is still making things wrong. I will attempt to slowly make the changeS over next few days.
  • HAPPY NEW YEAR Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:06, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
and, hey, did I see you make an edit to remove red links? No, i cannot believe it. Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:06, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Likewise! Of course, I spent it sober and driving, which was shit. Hahaha. Also, you got rid of red links? No way! What red links were they that you killed? I'm hoping you turned them blue and not black! - J man708 (talk) 12:15, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Table colours[edit]

Change a few colours incorrectly in historic league tables - which you've rightly reverted - so when i went on yesterdays blitz adding the (C) tag to champions I deliberately left the colours alone (thinking i was going to repeat yesterdays errors) , but now I realise that was a wrong move too. You'll find some more similar errors on older FFSA/SASF pages I'm sure. These colours do my head in . . . light green in a National article becomes yellow in a State one, I'm sure there was some consensus at Football Task Force about this that I read once, but its a bit inconsistent really. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:56, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's always a losing battle. There will always be pages to write and mistakes to make. It makes me realise how many pages I've created. It's why I also find it fun working on articles like the Greenlandic championships. Nobody ever bothers you if you do the wrong thing, as they are at best low traffic pages. - J man708 (talk) 00:14, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
please remind me one more time why its necessary to copy a table from HERE to HERE and then have to change light green colour D0F0C0 to yellow FFFFAA ? Is there a rule we can have the NPL using the light green, and use yellow just for the lower leagues? Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:15, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't even remember anymore. I saw it somewhere and went with it. As long as it all matches, I don't really give a shit, but there are a lot of season articles with yellow finals series in existance at this point. - J man708 (talk) 02:06, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
but "As long as it all matches" which way ? go light green and remove yellow everywhere, or remove light green from the four NPL season articles and have yellow everywhere? For consistency, I'd go and remove yellow everywhere but just from those articles that directly link to the four NPL season articles (so not going back before 2013). Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:20, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NPL Help[edit]

J-Man, just wanted to say a big thanks for all the work you are doing on the NPL NSW pages - It's an area that I am focusing on editing whenever I get time so your input is invaluable. Just like your page says, this is the second division and as such the articles and information need to reflect that. I feel like this is in some way updating these articles is helping us all get to a bigger and better footballing system in Australia. Cheers HR Shuffnstuff

Oh, no probs! Cheers for the praise! I'm just doing what I can. Ideally, I'd love to have all the states done, but I think aiming for about 2000 onwards is far more likely than going back to the 1920s. :P - J man708 (talk) 02:28, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ARTICLE FORMAT - Talk:2016 FFA Cup preliminary rounds[edit]

Only 2 people in the world seem to care about this !!!! Oh,well. So from the point of view of consensus, let's build the 2016 tables exactly the same way as for 2015.

From a consistency point of view, I am going to make a little project to reformat the 2014 FFA Cup preliminary rounds into the same Round-based format - will look at doing this during next weekend. Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:20, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. The 2014 project may be difficult as some teams qualified from say Round 4 and others Round 7. Also, I probably will be somewhat inactive (compared to how I normally am) on here. I spent a little under a week in hospital, and am still far from 100%. - J man708 (talk) 00:56, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have completed about 50% of 2014 Victoria into my reformatting project for the 2014 article. I figured on starting with Victoria as it was the biggest in terms of numbers. However, I have realised that this exercise is now going to be futile and if it was changed would very likely be reverted (perhaps rightly so) especially because of ACT. I didnt think it through, and its going to be ridiculous trying to put the round peg of 2013 ACT competition into the square (+rhomboid+pentagonal) holes of the 2014 competition.
I will divert my energies into creating pages for the 2015-16 W-League teams (of which there are only 3 out of 8 and the season's nearly over). Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:50, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you are on the mend. Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:50, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I still feel shitty though, but my heartrate is no longer 175, so I guess that's a bonus! - J man708 (talk) 03:00, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hey was wondering your thoughts regarding the addition of statistics for FFA. Cup Prelim rounds? Ie highest win, most goals scored by an individual, most goals etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSelectFew (talkcontribs) 13:14, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Might be hard to find out some of that info for the prelim rounds, such as highest scorer, most cards, etc; so I'd personally go against it, as other than that, the only stats we have is highest score/winning margin. - J man708 (talk) 13:49, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
jUST SEEN THAT YOU HAVE DONE 569 EDITS to 2016 FFA Cup preliminary rounds - and i understand that probably half of these are just this silly task of pretending where teams are on a non-existent National Football Pyramid; but you are posting around the clock, and I think you need to 'get a life' outside of WP !!! Or at least get a SLEEP !!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:12, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Trust me, I know! I'm actually gonna be out tonight and most of tomorrow throughout the day. I wouldn't be half as like this if I could actually go out and kick around a football for more than a few minutes without being completely screwed. Until then, this is pretty much the only way that I can contribute in some way to society, even if it is on something like Wikipedia! Just trying to do something with my days/nights until my next Cardioversion! For the record, they're a little daunting, but you come out of the theater with a free drunk feeling! - J man708 (talk) 03:19, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
you are number 6712 on the all-time list ! . . . hope your health improves ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:52, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oh Christ, that makes me sad! It's funny how I went from playing football and having a few training sessions with the Adelaide Raiders youth team to now geeking it up on here. Hopefully my health ends out a lot better than their prospects this season! Have you ever been much of a footballer? And cheers for the well wishes! I'm definitely feeling significantly better than I was a while back! - J man708 (talk) 03:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Triple J Hottest 100[edit]

Mate, it's over. No need to tell me to wait now. Other IP addresses would have done it anyway. Move on. Ss112 09:07, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ss112: Well then Sean, as someone with almost 10 year experience, how about you lead by example and abide by the rules? We all know IP editors do what they want, but a registered user should know better to jump the gun and make an assumption as to what the number 1 song was before it was announced. - J man708 (talk) 09:16, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't address be my first name if you don't know me. It's also unnecessary to scan my user page for information to use in telling me I should know better. That all comes down to perception. There's nothing left to say here. Ss112 09:27, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But, it's not perception. You were 100% in breach of the rules. I asked you not to assume the number 1 and abide by the rules, which after 10 years of editing, you should know. You're just being defensive, because you got caught out. WP:DBAD
- J man708 (talk) 09:41, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If I was afraid of being caught out, I would not have edited the page. Do you think I was under the impression nobody would see me add the #1 three minutes ahead of time? I knew people would be scanning the edit history, I just didn't think they would care. Guess I was wrong. It really sounds like you're upset you didn't get to update it first. Let it go already. Ss112 09:50, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, rules of what? Wikipedia? On that, the whole Hottest 100 page is unreferenced. People who don't know much about it could assume they're all fake or assumptions. Furthermore, you told me after the fact. Minutes after it was over, not before it was announced. If you're using DBAJ to apply here, I would also say that applies to going onto userpages to glean information and then use it to patronise them. There's telling me what's acceptable then there's personal comments. Ss112 09:53, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Again @Ss112:, you're incorrect. The edit summary was this-
"Updated. No secret what's #1 now, guys." - Ss112, adding assumed information
"Just wait 3 mins!" - J man708, deleting said information
Number 1 song gets played
"See? Unnecessary." - Ss112, readding information
Then, I wrote on your talkpage that there was nothing wrong with abiding by the rules and waiting for it to be announced, which you then deleted and wrote this message. As for personal comments? There's a difference between using your name which you wrote on your userpage and "gleaning" information and patronising. Don't get defensive over criticism. I asked you to abide by the rules and it's clearly an issue you're too stubborn to drop. - J man708 (talk) 10:07, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't read that edit summary before it was announced; I saw it afterwards and even then, I thought the other user whose name starts with J had said that. "See? Unnecessary" was in regards to whoever had deleted it, as I noticed it when I went to edit the page again. I thought I saw an IP actually removed it. Also, I asked you to let it drop, so you're just as stubborn, if anything. Ss112 10:15, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ss112: Then, lead by example and drop it yourself? You still haven't admitted any sort of form of wrongdoing. You decide what's on your talk page and I will on mine. If you want me to drop it, stop responding or admit fault, both of which you are clearly struggling to do. - J man708 (talk) 10:19, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 FFA Cup - WA[edit]

I'll have some more details to post for WA, but probably not for around 3 hours. Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:10, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: Anything interesting? :P - J man708 (talk) 07:12, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
meaning about Byes which wasnt announced in the round 1 draw today. Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:13, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: I was wondering about those. The teams listed that were to play in the first round didn't match the teams actually selected to play in it. Thought that was kinda interesting. - J man708 (talk) 07:17, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Albany and Goldfields teams - only one team from each region entered - so they might have been 'given' a Bye to the next round (rather than they decided that they enter in Round 2). 11 teams of the Premier division of the Consolidated Energy Amateur League entered (and they enter in Round 2). So i'm trying to find out from my contact inside Football West some more details - is it special preference compared to last year where they had to play their first match against the most local team or in their own 'zone', and if so, was it determined pre-draw that they enter into Round 2, or were they 'assigned' a Bye in Round 1 so their first matches are in Round 2. I may or may not get this info quickly, as i am leaving Australia tomorrow for 2-4 weeks in Ghana. Matilda Maniac (talk) 13:27, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Sweet, that actually will help explain the odd draw a lot more. Also, I'm working on an edit that takes out the place-holder team names as they are currently showing that one team is set against another (ie. Wanneroo City vs Western Knights; Swan United vs Balga; etc.) When I first saw the changes, I was just confused, thinking that the draw had already been predetermined between these two clubs. It's why I've been using those placeholders on all positions except for the Queensland NPL teams playing in district zones (I mean, it's unlikely that Far North Queensland will play a club from the Gold Coast). Also, try and avoid ebola, if you can! Hahaha. And those damn Nigerian princes... I still haven't heard anything back from that one who I sent $100,000 to! - J man708 (talk) 13:36, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
but OK to keep Round 4 and Round 5 as they are, since there's no team vs team conflict ?
Maybe better tactic will be for me to create the stand-alone article for 2016 WA State Challenge Cup and put some separate tables in there to indicate which teams enter which round before the draw. Thats what i originally did for the 2014 article. Only a few of the states need a stand-alone article (those which one might call round 8 or 9 like Dockerty Cup, Waratah Cup), and last year i didnt create these until they were necessary mid year when Round 7 was underway. Might do this on the plane tomorrow as I'm on Emirates and they have wifi ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 17:54, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: Oh dude, I've heard great things about Emirates! Much better than Air Koryo! Hahaha. But yeah, I think with the number of clubs in the Docherty and Waratah Cups that it's probably necessary, especially with as you said and eighth and ninth round. Also, I wonder how many entries SA will get this time around? There's 33 NPL/State League teams, minus AU Youth makes 32, which is obviously a perfect number. But then, entry isn't compulsory and also teams from Mount Gambier and the Collegiate League seem to enter. They've got it mapped out that they are expecting more than 32, at least. That's something. I'm just curious as to who will join the State League 2 for 2017. I've heard that Adelaide University will, but I have no idea about any others, just that a few are half interested to jump ship from the rebel Amateur League. - J man708 (talk) 18:16, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Was trying to get to at least one match of FFA Cup preliminary rounds, and all Perth matches for Rd-of-32 onwards. Achieved this in 2014, but last year was in Africa for one or more of the WA rounds and at a dragonboat carnival for another; then drove through Adelaide last June but not quite coinciding with the SA Federation cup final (was in Mt Gambier or Barossa i think, didnt make it to Adelaide until after fulltime) ; this year had the same plan - my local local club (Kingsley, on the oval i walk my dog on) has not entered this time, and I'm probably in Ghana for WA Round 1, and Egypt for WA round 2.

2016 FFA Cup - Tasmania[edit]

Do you have a reference or link to your recent post with last year's Northern Tasmanian champions (Somerset) and Southern Tasmanian champions (University) entering in Round 4 ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 19:43, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: Nope, but it's covered by the "NOTE: The following list is based off of the qualifying method used in the 2015 tournament. Should a member federation change their qualifying method, the positioning of certain matches and seeds may change as a result." note. Also, there are tons of these team entries based on 2015's tournament (ie - SA's, ACT's, TAS's, NT's). This should all be sorted out really soon, anyway. - J man708 (talk) 20:06, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's just your method after adding the disclaimer below so that you can speculate however you like. Should be reverted for now, until it is "sorted out really soon" officially. Just wait until it is announced.
My point is that it should be left blank until the format is known and not speculate, and certainly not add a message box, and then turn it around to say that an edit is aligned with the text in the message box. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:25, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to revert anything - I just dont think its the right thing to do. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:25, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac: You know that I'm following a standard that was set by the Asian Champions League pages before their slots were known, yeah? I'm doing exactly the same thing that has been accepted onto the ACL pages for the last however many years. I definitely wouldn't say it's carte blanche, when I'm just copying the set up I see on similar articles... - J man708 (talk) 08:11, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
and I hate the ACL speculation bandwagon as well- I dont think that is the right approach for wikipedia for whichever tournament it is - something like UEFA champions league and europa league is different, as the 'rules' dont change, or change well in advance, which is quite different to AFC who seem to make up something new every couple of years, and FFA Cup as its still nascent and evolving and controlled in first 7-8 rounds by member federations of varying levels of organisation. I just think instead of guessing and then it will "should should all be sorted out really soon, Id prefer to leave unknown things blank, and then "all be sorted out really soon" . no right or wrong, just different opinions by different editors. Matilda Maniac (talk) 19:11, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
and with reference to Asian Champions League pages : It's a set of Wikipedia pages, it has no additional formal status or significance as a Standard other than that which you ascribe. Please send me a link to a formal Template for this Standard if one exists and i will stand humbly corrected. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:05, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Canberra United Academy[edit]

your link was red on your recent edit in 2016 NPL, and I changed it to link to the Canberra United FC team article instead. There's now some information on the Academy there, but that article might have to be properly overhauled as it was built exclusively for the W-League team. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:34, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Matilda Maniac: Hey dude, that seems better than the red link. Do you reckon I should link the Canberra United Academy template to the article at Canberra United FC until we get around to building the Acamdemy page? Your call, Tildawg.
EDIT - Oh crap, you already did exactly that! Thanks! - J man708 (talk) 01:53, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
added a bit more detail tonight; hopefully someone does some more background checking and research and expands further. I wouldnt think at this stage it warrants its own article. Matilda Maniac (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 FFA Cup - SA[edit]

do you know what are the timeframes for SA in the FFA Cup ? i dont see hardly anything on FFSA website. Someone else posted the Round dates, but i cant even find them (was going to add a reference). . . . have been checking Capital Football website and facebook every few days - nothing new there either. Matilda Maniac (talk) 21:32, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

and are rebel league teams eligible? Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:01, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the original nomination form was posted online, which showed the dates for SA, no idea about the others. As for the rebel clubs, nope. They're not affiliated with the FFSA and by default the FFA. These clubs are the ones from the SA Amateur Soccer League. The clubs in the Collegiate League are allowed, as are ones from the other leagues like the Western Border League, as they are affliated. It's confusing. We could have a good 30 more clubs if the SAASL and FFSA figured their shit out. - J man708 (talk) 22:26, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:51, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Matilda Maniac and TheSelectFew: Made a quick call today. The SA entries list will be on the FFSA website by Wednesday night/Thursday morning. There's still a few clubs expressing interest and the entries close on Wednesday for it. Also, NT has three zones this year, with a Central/Borroloola Sub Zone added in to the northern region, so far they have about 15 teams. Eastern United FC match postponed because . . . . . Referee pulled hamstring during the warmup! LOL Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:50, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
#TheMagicOfTheCup. The thing is that people never remember is that referees can get injured, too. I remember an A-League fixture from last season wherein the ref needed to be substituted! - J man708 (talk) 13:32, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 FFA Cup - ACT[edit]

I don't think the current set up for ACT that you have copied from 2015 is right - there was a 'special case' made for Belconnen United last year, as they were the 2014 Federation Cup winners, who missed out on the 2014 - Round of 32 on appeal and it went to Tuggies instead as the 2013 winner. Seems like that was a one-off, so doesnt mean that Gungahlin United FC would necessarily enter one round later. The previous round might have 8-10 entrants, depending whether the two youth teams are eligible. I think it would be safer for ACT to delete their presence until this is resolved. However, as :

  • 1. You have put so much effort into setting up the tables and tie numbers etc.
  • 2. Hopefully something real announced soon, and
  • 3. I'm in Ghana having long days at work, and little time on Wikipedia,
I do not think it is misleading enough to warrant a revert. Matilda Maniac (talk) 21:48, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Do you reckon it's worth showing the ACT as having 8 clubs in Round 5 and 16 clubs in Round 4? Doing that won't be too much hastle. I could probably do that in a few minutes. I daresay that it's safe to assume that the ACT will get more than 16 teams, anyway. - J man708 (talk) 22:28, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd just leave it until something concrete appears. . . . dont even know whether its 8 teams or 9 or 10 entering in which round - the youth teams may or may not be allowed to enter (they dont have parent A-League clubs so mightnt be excluded as per the other federations). As you know, I dont really like assumptions and speculations. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:51, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
you have a source for 18 teams in ACT ? is there somewhere they've mentioned the format, or wait until the draw ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:59, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Called up Capital Football yesterday and got 18 from them, ditto the date. Obviously it's not enough for the main page's article, but yeah, that date should be right. - J man708 (talk) 20:06, 15 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 FFA Cup - NT, and the ZONEZONE Premier League[edit]

data I got today from FFNT - the 5 southern zone entrants - will be on their website soon [on Monday ?] however that information also puts into question whats happening in Round 3, as it now has Darwin Olympic getting a bye into round 4; so trying to ascertain from their 'competition relations manager' whether Palmerston withdrew so it is a walkover, rather than describe it as if they never entered the competition at all. They've completely pulled out of the ZONEZONE Premier League.

  • So maybe its not 14 teams for NT, but only 13 : effectively 8 ZONEZONE teams entering in Round 4, rather than 8 ZONEZONE teams entering in Round 3 and all of them getting a Bye. Matilda Maniac (talk) 15:39, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Champ! Hopefully we can figure it all out soon and not have teams missing like last time! (That was two Brisbane clubs, btw. Both pulled out pre-season, which caused the same issue) - J man708 (talk) 17:55, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
14 teams confirmed. Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:13, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Metro and Sunday Leagues[edit]

Hey mate was talking with MM re sunday league tiers. Theres a general consensus that these leagues are below the NPL and state leagues with results from the FFA Cup confirming this. Should we add them in accordingly.

They will look better than having (-) surely. TheSelectFew (talk) 00:59, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSelectFew: Yeah man, definitely. I was going to add them in after the season started, as a lot of the lower tier Victorian leagues have teams pull out and teams reprieved from relegation at the last moment, so I was personally going to wait until then if nobody else had done it, otherwise if you feel like going it, go right ahead! - J man708 (talk) 02:04, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My only issue is how will it be formatted and combined with current leagues. TheSelectFew (talk) 23:38, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSelectFew:, what do you mean, chief? - J man708 (talk) 02:43, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well off the top of my head how will we fir it into the Australian soccer pyramid? Would you? TheSelectFew (talk) 13:34, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think it all matters on whether or not the league is statewide (such as the Victorian Leagues), or regional (like any Queensland league under the NPL). I think that's a great place to start! Also, Tildawg and I have been talking about it all on his talk page. Give us your thoughts! - J man708 (talk) 13:38, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should change the pyramid page to get rid of the regional leagues and include tier number on the ffa cup page instead of just a dash. Thats just my thoughts. TheSelectFew (talk) 13:51, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto on the tiers. As for the pyramid, do you mean taking out all the regional league references or to have them just listed as below the state league being "7 Regional Leagues - No Promotion", or something to that extent? - J man708 (talk) 13:56, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trhrilling video[edit]

If you're stuck at home and bored, why not watch all 34 minutes and 40 seconds of THIS. its so riveting, i had to watch it twice. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:44, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My God, this is exceptionally riveting! I love the emptiness of their voices in the room and the reverb. It makes the room seem so vibrant, and full of life! It's like a upper-class restaurant district! (Needs more Gary Fisher) - J man708 (talk) 23:52, 27 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
the crescendo towards the climax for rounds 6 and 7 is the video equivalent of Ravel's Boléro - - - I so hope they do single round draws this year. Matilda Maniac (talk) 05:58, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've always liked In the Hall of the Mountain King, personally! - J man708 (talk) 13:50, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disappearing match reports[edit]

I noticed your edit summary comment about match reports being deleted from the FFA Cup page. Are there any particular examples? Hack (talk) 03:23, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

All four opening fixtures have their squad listings deleted. I had to Google the player's surname and club in order to find out who scored what. Also, we've already had an issue with a player who was listed in regular black text had a page created for them after scoring an FFA Cup goal and subsequently changing teams - Ryan De Vries. - J man708 (talk) 05:07, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So further justification for Jason to turn every possible Noun into a Redlink. Oh, how evil is that regular black text?! User: 'Tildawd (talk) 05:07, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've added links to archived versions of the match reports in the Round of 32 section of 2014 FFA Cup. Hack (talk) 05:58, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I tried accessing the Wayback archives for it last night and it seems as though the line ups just won't load at all. - J man708 (talk) 06:36, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Red links aren't always bad! - J man708 (talk) 13:42, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Seems the link to the Opta match data is broken on some of the older reports that are still showing on the site. Hack (talk) 03:17, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Opta annoys me anyway. Their stats are good, their tweets are shithouse! Why must every tweet end with a one word answer? Annoying. - J man708 (talk) 03:41, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The FFA probably cheaped out and bought a limited licence on the data. Hack (talk) 03:48, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I really wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, if that were the case! - J man708 (talk) 04:04, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fremantle City FC[edit]

i noticed you have put a redirect from the Fremantle City FC article to Fremantle Spirit SC. this is not correct.

Fremantle Spirit was a Portuguese-dominated club, which merged a few years ago and got amalgamated/absorbed into Maddington Eagles. it no longer exists. However, there is a current club called Fremantle City FC which is actually a joint venture between two other exiting clubs in the area : Fremantle United (which if anything has strong Italian links) and East Fremantle Tricolore (which is totally Italian). From a footballing perspective, EFT technically merged 1-2 decades ago with Perth SC (also Italian, not surprisingly), but they kept clubrooms and social things and again reinventing themselves in the amateur leagues. Can you please remove the redirect, so we simply have a red link to Fremantle City FC ? Thanks. Matilda Maniac (talk) 16:40, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, the semi-pro teams of Tricolore, Balcatta and Azzurri came together to form Perth SC. Tricolore and Balcatta later left to go it alone, leaving only Azzurri who have since merged with Perth SC. Hack (talk) 17:06, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The only reason why I placed the redirect there was because I found this, which was what I thought was correct. I can't delete the page, but I can just create a new page, overriding the redirect. Thankfully, Fremantle City played at the top flight of WA for a while, so their page will pass GNG requirements. I'll get on that in the next 48 hours. Would it bother you if the redirect stayed for this interim time until I can fix it? So far, the only links that use that redirect from my knowledge are in my own user pages and haven't been published to Wikipedia proper - J man708 (talk) 18:05, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that link from Socceraust was correct at the time, but its a different Fremantle City team now. In the press a while ago they were calling it Fremantle City United FC. But they remain as separate clubs sometimes for things like FFA Cup. @Hack thanks for the more detailed background - the key thing in 2016 is which team's canteen serves the best pasta and pizza! definitely Perth SC !! Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:02, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As stupid as it sounds, I was trying to create a page for the 1990's team named Fremantle City and not the modern day one (due to my attempts to create pages for each state league's seasons going back as far as I can reasonably source info. I'm going to try and create the fb template for Fremantle City 1981. Is there enough information to warrant an article for the current SL2 club? - J man708 (talk) 22:12, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
seen what youve done with Fremantle City (1981) templates and cancel the re-direct. THANKS !. Also, have seen your 1999 and 2000 compilations, and note that both of these have WA teams getting relegated to Victoria, which needs a minor edit. Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:22, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As I mentioned, if there's enough information around for Freo City's club now, we can just create a new article where the blanked former redirect lies. I'll leave the decision on that one in your hands. More than happy to do what I can to write the article, if you deem it fit enough. As for the WA relegations to Victoria, that shit's completely intentional. Didn't you know that Olympic Kingsway played a few seasons in the Victorian Leagues? Hahaha. Cheers for pointing that out. It's just a copy-pasted job, rather than finding the original template and working from there! - J man708 (talk) 03:27, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FFA Cup information[edit]

Hi J man : I reverted your recent edit at FFA Cup - adding club icons to a table - on the basis that

(edit conflict) All good. For me, it's either all or nothing. Clearly, they aren't going anywhere, so the only other thought was to add them into more places. - J man708 (talk) 13:49, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

congratulations !!!! Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:12, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

6 trips to AFC Champions League for Adelaide United, vs. ZERO for Perth Glory at this stage. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:17, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
though my favourite grand final to date was the one where Archie pwned you. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:18, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, fuck you, too! Just for that, mine was the 2014 FFA Cup! - J man708 (talk) 09:23, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the one where you automatically got homefield advantage - which is a significant advantage - because Glory couldnt host with the timezone difference conflicting with FOXTELS's requirements? Matilda Maniac (talk) 02:43, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's the one! - J man708 (talk) 09:12, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Still smarting that Melbourne victory got homefield advantage in the Final last year, as . . . . oh, yeah, same reason - FOXTEL bureaucracy ! If we made the final this year, and against Sydney FC or Wanderers, what do you think is going to happen ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:08, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
At least you'll get home field advantage against the Nix! Hahaha. Honestly, it's complete crap. As I said last year, it's not that SA is included in the Eastern State's bureaucracy, but it is the lesser of two evils, when you can have the match kick off at a time which will still get 15,000 to the match and whatever market would be watching at home. I think holding it in a predetermined neutral city would be cool, much akin to the UEFA Champions League final. Also, did you ever see the Round of 16 draw of 2014? Watch from about 1:20 onwards. I'm absolutely adamant that this fixture was preconcieved. Firstly Zappa's comment about Sydney FC (directly after Alex Tobin pulled out Sydney United) still being in, then Paul Reid's sly little nod to his right as he'd pulled the ball out and saw the number, before having a shit eating as he shows the camera the ball and Zappa makes his surely scripted comment about the match happening... As much as it's difficult to rig a draw like this, you'd think sticking the Sydney FC ball in the freezer for half an hour beforehand would make it undetectable to all of us, bar Reid? - J man708 (talk) 12:51, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Colours?[edit]

Hi there !! still basking in the glow of winning the Toilet Seat ? I have added a section to 2015 Football Federation Victoria season for the Women's Premier League (and doing the same for 2014 and 2016), but have got into a muddle with what colours to use for some of the permutations. I have tried to use the colour scheme for these season articles (that you have helped to standardize), but there are permutations that aren't covered . . . . . relegated even though made the finals series or were Champions. Can you please fix to a better palette ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 02:03, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I reckon we should have the women's articles available as their own articles, available within their own NPL page and available as an offshoot/link from the male article. Thoughts? - J man708 (talk) 09:11, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
extremely likely they will be shot down immediately as Not Notable. Perhaps fair enough, but they can have a place within the context of an overall Season article for each Federation. As you've seen with the Football West seasons, I have included the uppermost Womens division there, as it is more notable (relatively) than the amateur league premier division which also gets a mention. To my mind, season articles do not imply gender. And they dont have to just be for the league seasons - again, I have added a summary of FFA Cup/Cool Ridge cup to the Football West seasons since 2014. Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:06, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
can you please edit the colours away from the poo brown ones that I used ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 10:06, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I threw that newer version together in a few minutes. Hopefully that works? I know where you're coming from, but sadly the women's game doesn't get the coverage that the men's game does. What I would suggest for the women's articles is to throw a bunch together in your sandbox and set them all live at once. They're far less likely to be shot down if there are a bunch of articles, all interlinking to one another and also containing links to the main women's NPL page. - J man708 (talk) 12:40, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
for me, the time to do that is when the first integrated NPL for women happens - going to keep my powder dry until then (2017? or 2018? not too far away probably); and sneak them in to the member federation articles over time - going to do NSW next. Or maybe ACT and do the overall 2016 season article which still hasnt been done. Difficult now for me as I'm off to Africa again for a few weeks - this time southern Egypt and southern Mali, and with a couple of days off in Paris in between.
pink + yellow works a lot better than 2 shades of poo - Thanks. Matilda Maniac (talk) 15:10, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
please remind me the logic for colouring teams 2/3/4 in yellow in state article vs. light green in NPL article. Does it matter if they are both showing light green ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 14:36, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Finals series are meant to be in yellow (this was confirmed on about page 92 of the Project Football talk page. If anything, the NPL articles as a whole are coloured incorrectly and should be yellow. Prior to my restoration, the 2013 NPL article looked like a pile of crap. This was during the days where I was still a moderately inexperienced editor. Since then, I guess it has become more out of habit than anything else to include the light green that I originally found in the 2013 NPL articles. - J man708 (talk) 17:12, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NSW Regional Leagues[edit]

Hey dude. With all your WA talk, you sparked me to try follow your lead about "regional leagues". I have started created a NSW regional leagues basically following what I presume to be your SA "template". I'm getting near the end, but now I just feel like it is a massive data dump and isn't really useful at all! Can I get you to have a look and give an honest response as to what I/we should do. I almost feel like this sort of this should be uniform nation-wide. Cheers. —Eccy89 (talk) 08:57, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Eccy89: - Yo, Ecco the Dolphin, It seems alright, tbh. I mean, it's always gonna look like a data dump, unless we include a prose before every league (which as easy as it could be for some, could be a nightmare for others). Also, I couldn't find the Wollongong League within that table. But other than that, it's probably a lot easier than any alternatives. Cheers for that. I'll be more active next week. Got a new housemate in atm and we're just organising shit. :P - J man708 (talk) 20:16, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT - Found it! Football South Coast! - J man708 (talk) 20:23, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. Yes,some prose will help this, even if just a one-liner - make it less like a collection of stats. Matilda Maniac (talk) 21:24, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thx @J man708: and @Matilda Maniac: for the advice. I think I'm going to divide the associations into further regions which they generally use for state comps (granted, normally just for juniors), but it should be a little easier to read. Can hopefully get some prose into it that way. will need more research so might be a little way off.
Haha J man, whats the story with the sega game? did you use to play this?? somehow that sparked me into surfing wiki about dinosaurs for a fair few mins! cheers for that —Eccy89 (talk) 12:49, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Eccy89: - Nah man, I was more of a PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn kid (this was after the original Sega Master System of course). The reason why I remembered "Eccy" The Dolphin was actually because it's one of the many games ran at the Games Done Quick speedrunning marathons. I've always liked watching people demolish the games I couldn't beat as a kid in seconds, even though it does remind me how crap I was at them in comparison. Check it out. The next one is at the start of July. - J man708 (talk) 18:38, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@J man708: cheers for that bro, i spent two hours watching people demolish Donkey Kong Country in 40mins and Crash Bandicoot 80 mins. WTF! Amazing! —Eccy89 (talk) 01:54, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Eccy89: - Dude, it's fucking incredible. If you get the chance, check out the Goldeneye two players, one controller run (it's ran by guys named RWhiteGoose and BassBoost). Their run is just... So fast for two people controlling one character... I lose hours just watching it... Oh, and check out GTA:SA runs... It's mental how fast the world record is for that. - J man708 (talk) 08:50, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2018 AFC Champions League listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect 2018 AFC Champions League. Since you had some involvement with the 2018 AFC Champions League redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. -- Tavix (talk) 03:18, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for July 9[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited ESL One Cologne 2014, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cloud9. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

nationalities[edit]

Ok Jman, I got your point, there are inconsistencies on Wikipedia. Anyways the correct way to list is by nationality as it was that season. These pages are season pages, and the info is relevant to that season, not changed by what happens after. If you see more mistakes, please bring them up on my talk page instead of continuing to revert on all those pages. Promise I'll see it and react on my talk page too :) --SuperJew (talk) 07:58, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@SuperJew:I'm not editing to make a point, I'm editing to make the articles in question match other, similar articles! "how convenient of you..." - No shit? Of course I'm not going to point out the FEW Millwall pages that don't adhere to the point, as something like this would happen. There are tons of pages of the sort, wherein players nationalities have retroactively been changed. This does not mean that they can only be changed at the chronological point wherein they started playing for the country in question.
Just a heads up? Try and calm down on the reverts, too. The 3RR exists for a reason. I KNOW I'm not the first person whose gotten annoyed at your need to revert every little thing that you, SuperJew, personally don't see as being correct. People will JUMP at the opportunity to nominate someone as being involved in an edit war at the slightest notion of a disagreement. These people, straight out are annoying fucking bureaucrats, who think of themselves as the uppermost social justice warrior, armed with their trusty keyboard. I've been nominated before by one of them, who had actually reverted my edits more than I had done his. Just a friendly warning. I'm not the type to do this shit, but some people really are that fucking petty.
Also, as much as a message like this one I'm sure has the intention of being nice, but after over 20 reverts, it just comes across as a bit condescending. I think we should take this one to the Project Football talk page and see their thoughts. The Australian page sometimes couldn't organise a root in a brothel... - J man708 (talk) 08:14, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, bring it up :) --SuperJew (talk) 08:17, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

formatting FFA Cup[edit]

why do you keep undoing the new easier formatting on 2016 FFA Cup back to the outdated one? --SuperJew (talk) 12:31, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Because I don't live on the Wikiproject Football page, hitting F5? Jesus dude, chill the fuck out. What difference does it make? I thought it was IP edits done incorrectly. Not everything is malicious... - J man708 (talk) 15:34, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
BOTH formats are supported. Some discussion here . . . New syntax for penalties list and here . . . Accessibility update. Rather than reverting, definitely more helpful to send these links to the other editor(s) to show the differences, which will get more traction with the different format IF it turns out to be easier. I am personally happier with line breaks, there's only opinions that this format is 'outdated'. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:41, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
For someone who consistently reverts some of my edits to the way they think Wikipedia must look, being reverted themselves seems like being a personal affront. But he's slowly getting better. Chill too. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:16, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

List of soccer clubs in Australia[edit]

Hey Dude, Just updating the List of soccer clubs in Australia. Wondering if you wanted to do the South Australia section? Initially it was divided by state and then divisions/leagues. I have kept the separation at state but have grouped all leagues together similar to List of football clubs in England. This will make it easier to manage year to year when teams are relegated/promoted. Hava look, lemme know what you think. —Eccy89 (talk) 04:46, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Eccy89: Sure, but there's a lot of unaffiliated clubs within the rebel league. Do I add those, too? - J man708 (talk) 08:45, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@J man708: Ahh, rebel league?? Gut response would be no. I mean, surely it should be in keeping with pro/rel within the FFA (and filtered down) governing bodies. I obviously don't much about it though and would be happy to defer to your judgement. —Eccy89 (talk) 13:22, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Eccy89: Yeah broski, the SAASL, which is home to teams who don't want to pay the high rates the FFSA ask, or ones generally disenfranchised by the system. I dunno, I'm sure they all have their reasons, but there's a more official lower tier list already active, anyway. These teams are the official lower tier ones. - J man708 (talk) 14:04, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, but not all in one place :-) also, I dont think this page that I am working on should include any of those lower tiers that you are talking about. only go down to state level with pro/rel. anything that does not promote up shouldnt be included. —Eccy89 (talk) 15:17, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Eccy89: Sounds good, chief. Although, truth be told, I'd probably just copy and paste the SA clubs and rearrange them in alphabetical order. :P - J man708 (talk) 16:39, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, whatever you need to get it done, provided it's accurate of course :-P
How's the rehab going? —Eccy89 (talk) 02:41, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Slowly improving! My fitness is so low at the moment, however. But overall, it's looking up! Cheers dude! - J man708 (talk) 09:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NPL/NYL club seasons[edit]

Hey man,

Just wondering if you knew about any rules about creating NPL club season pages. I initially thought about it from continuing Wollongong Wolves seasons from the NSL through their current NPL. I also was thinking about Sydney FC Youth seasons now that they are in the NPL. I cant see anything on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football or Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Australia task force saying that they are not important enough to include. Infact, I even saw this page: List of AFC Wimbledon seasons which has links to club seasons' articles from when they were in county leagues!! I think it should be OK to go ahead, just wondered what you thought. Also, re; youth teams, I have seen some HAL club season articles including the youth results also, however I think they should be separate. —Eccy89 (talk) 04:34, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you can find the time and effort to make those, they'd pass GNG, I'm fairly sure (especially if you kept it to the big clubs and not like Mooroolbark or other obscurer teams). Personally, I've always wanted to keep the Northern Fury articles going, because I honestly feel that they'll be back at some point. As for the Youth results, I'm with you on that one. I'd put them seperate, but it's your call. - J man708 (talk) 09:40, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dude! I made the records for Fury and I have their template linked on my page. The other day I noticed someone has been doing the new seasons articles for them!! Clearly not you then :-) —Eccy89 (talk) 11:22, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! I'm actually surprised to see them already up. That's awesome! Definitely not me! - J man708 (talk) 12:08, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hey buddy, ran into some trouble with this one 2015–16 Sydney FC Youth season (proposed deletion). I've expanded it, so hopefully all sorted. —Eccy89 (talk) 04:31, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks a lot better than the previous versions! I reckon that's one thing lacking with Australian football articles - The lack of season article information. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know where to start to improving them! - J man708 (talk) 10:16, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I dunno- it's been listed here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2016 September 4#2015–16 Sydney FC Youth season

Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I don't think your new article on the French 6th tier is correct.

For a start, some regions do not refer to their top division as Division d'Honneur (for example Auvergne call theirs Regional 1, but aren't the only non-conformists). Secondly, this is by no means one division with 27 leagues. Each league is run by the individual region and can (and often does) have different rules. Your statement is equivalent to stating that all English Step 7 (level 11) leagues [4] are in the same division.

I think this article would be better remaining as a section in French football league system (which could certainly do with some updating!

Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 14:43, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Gricehead:, I just figured that the vast majority of the sixth tier competitions are listed as DHs and created them all under one specific banner. My reasoning behind this is that the FFF website lists their tables all under the same scroll bar (no idea what they're actually called), so I figured that a one-size-fits-all set up worked for them. You can change it if you see fit, I just figured that I'd build onto it as the days go by and I get more spare time. - J man708 (talk) 15:30, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All my spare time is tied up with Coupe de France preliminaries at the moment (I hope to actually finish this season before next season's start!), and I have had a refresh of French Football League system on my to do list since July. I will probably throw some suggestions up on the article talk page if that would help. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 15:45, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Edit to add - there are significant changes coming in 17/18 for leagues CFA2 downwards. Also the re-organisation of FFF into 12 Regions vice 27, with 27 Sectors below them may have implications on the DH and below structure. Gricehead (talk) 15:47, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I'll leave it to your judgment. Change it or redirect it as you see fit! =) - J man708 (talk) 16:26, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Order of clubs on FFA Cup appearances[edit]

Hey, In FFA Cup appearances you re-ordered the clubs. Can you please explain based on what you ordered them? since you didn't leave an edit summary, a comment/note in the page about the order, explanation in the talk-page, and I can't read your mind. Thanks, --SuperJew (talk) 13:03, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@SuperJew: They're now in order of their best performance (tie broken by their second best), in the case of it being a tie after that, I've used alphabetical order. Akin to this - J man708 (talk) 13:51, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT - Although, I'm going to add in the differences between clubs making the Round of 16 and also having more than one appearance and clubs just making it once. - J man708 (talk) 13:53, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
SECONDARY EDIT - Come to think of it, it's a page on appearances and not on how they're performed. Switching it back now. - J man708 (talk) 13:54, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, cool. I was going to add an in-page comment, but I see there already is one. All the best --SuperJew (talk) 13:58, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. I'm editing this one now instead (with the same parameters) - J man708 (talk) 14:00, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
