just a confusion between Commons and english wikipedia templates. The template is valid on commons. I removed it from this image. By the way how does one initiate a transfer of an image to commons? --Jarekt 14:17, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Attenuation Coefficient page

Hi, yes it just didn't make sense to have two separate pages for what are essentially the same quantities. The images look fine, it's differcult to get them to look right as it depends on the individual users resolution etc. Thanks for your contributions Jdrewitt 08:18, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When you make a change to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Republic of China. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit and is especially useful when reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Annotate

Thanks for filling in the proposal. I think you should also see the current discussion here. Lupo has decided to implement it on enwiki when he gets time, in a kinda restricted way. Christ Church, Cambridge, File:Interior from Balcony.jpg

This photo, posted by me, a CCC parishioner, has been used on promotional post cards and on the old CCC website (can be found in Internet Archive http://web.archive.org/web/20000308105401/http://www.cccambridge.org/). I do not know the original photographer, but the image has been used as public domain for years and years. In any case it's been removed from Wiki Commons and there is a new, good one in the CCC article. Cgmusselman (talk) 18:40, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for making some links and uploading the pictures of Treasury photos. I also found another article and made a link there as well. I also digged through NARA online catalog a bit, and I found it very limiting in information, almost completely lacking in fact. I understand that NARA would want Wikipedians to collaborate with it in recording various information, and I guess my list could serve as one such starting point. I don't know how to go about it though. We will see how it goes. By the way, it was fun finding stuff (smile) TheBlueWizard (talk) 03:27, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

I think we should compare your list of people NARA have photographs of to the wikipedia articles and see if any of those guys have articles in need of image. I assume we might be back there again at some point. I am quite interested in finding original images from Warsaw uprising that suppose to reside in NARA at College Park archive (although I might have to wait few years before they are old enough to qualify as commons:Anonymous-EU). I think our little excursion was a good learning experience of how such scanning can be done. As for info in NARA online catalog - I am not surprised. The volume of material is so great that it is hard to imagine how much time it would take to catalog it all. Thanks for your offer, I am not positive what was Thelmadatter referring to but I suspect it was about image upload of images from commons:Category:Perm State Art Gallery, that a new Russian new user, who is in contact with the Gallery was planning. There is not much happening at the moment, and I think I have things covered on the Commons. Authority Control integration

Zdjęcia z dokumentów niemieckich z IIWŚ

Witaj, wciąga mnie coraz bardziej to umieszczanie na Wiki zdjęć sprzed 1945, czy mogę Cię znów coś podpytać? Chodzi mi o dokumenty niemieckie wystawione przez władze okupacyjne GG (jak kenkarty), lub też państwowe instytucje niemieckie jak Ostbahn. Mam dwa pytania: 1) Czy moge je wgrywać na PD-GermanGov, czy może są tutaj jakieś ograniczenia? 2) Czy mogę wykadrować i wgrać tylko fotografie ludzi z tychże dokumentów? Czy zdjęcia ludzi w tych dokumentach stanowią część dokumentu, który mogę wydzielić? Wiem, że będa miały stemple etc. ale w przypadku p. Według mnie kenkarty czy inne dokumenty GG mogą być wgrywane ożywając {{PD-GermanGov}}. Zobacz File:Kennkarte - B. Tuszynski - 1944.jpg, File:Kenkarte W.Gadzinski.jpg czy File:Kienzle Uhren Ausweis from WWII.jpg. An exciting month of wiki events!

Hello there,

I am pleased to say that April will be a very exciting month for Wikipedia in Washington, DC. We have a lot of different events coming up, so you will have a lot to choose from.

First, a reminder that our second annual Women in the Arts Edit-a-Thon will take place on Sunday, March 30 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Coming up in April, we have our first-ever Open Government WikiHack with the Sunlight Foundation on April 5–6! We are working together to use open government data to improve the Wikimedia projects, and we would love your help. All are welcome, regardless of coding or editing experience. We will also be having a happy hour the day before, with refreshments courtesy of the Sunlight Foundation.

On Friday, April 11 we are having our first edit-a-thon ever with the Library of Congress. The Africa Collection Edit-a-Thon will focus on the Library's African and Middle East Reading Room. It'll be early in the morning, but it's especially worth it if you're interested in improving Wikipedia's coverage of African topics.

The following day, we are having our second annual Wiki Loves Capitol Hill training. We will discuss policy issues relevant to Wikimedia and plan for our day of outreach to Congressional staffers that will take place during the following week.

Two edit-a-thons coming up!

Hello there!

I'm pleased to tell you about two upcoming edit-a-thons:

  • This Tuesday, April 29, from 2:30 to 5:30 PM, we have the Freer and Sackler edit-a-thon. (Sorry for the short notice!)
  • On Saturday, May 10 we have the Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon, in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, from 10 AM to 5 PM.

We have more stuff coming up in May and June, so make sure to keep a watch on the DC meetup page. As always, if you have any recommendations or requests, please leave a note on the talk page.

Washington, DC meetups in June

Greetings!

Wikimedia DC has yet another busy month in June. Whether you're a newcomer to Wikipedia or have years of experience, we're happy to see you come. Here's what's coming up:

  • On Wednesday, June 11 from 7 to 9 PM come to the WikiSalon at the Cove co-working space. Hang out with Wikipedia enthusiasts!
  • Saturday, June 14 is the Frederick County History Edit-a-Thon from 11 AM to 4 PM. Help improve local history on Wikipedia.
  • The following Saturday, June 21, is the June Meetup. Dinner and drinks with Wikipedians!
  • Come on Tuesday, June 24 for the Wikipedia in Your Library edit-a-thon at GWU on local and LGBT history.
  • Last but not least, on Sunday, June 29 we have the Phillips Collection Edit-a-Thon in honor of the Made in America exhibit.

Wikipedia is better with friends, so why not come out to an event?

The Great American Wiknic and other events in July

I am pleased to announce our fourth annual picnic, the Great American Wiknic, will take place at Meridian Hill Park in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, July 13 from 1 to 5 PM (rain date: July 20). We will be hanging out by the statue of Dante Alighieri, a statue that was donated to the park in 1921 as a tribute to Italian Americans. Read more about the statue on Wikipedia. If you would like to sign up for the picnic, you can do so here. When signing up, say what you’re going to bring!

July will also feature the second annual Great American Wiknic in Frederick, Maryland. This year’s Frederick picnic will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Baker Park. Sign up here for the Frederick picnic.

What else is going on in July? We have the American Chemical Society Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, July 12, dedicated to notable chemists, and our monthly WikiSalon on Wednesday, July 16.

Wikimedia DC invites revolutionaries, free thinkers, and other sundry editors to a DC WikiSalon

The WikiSalon is a special meetup usually held during the first and third full weeks of every month, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's an informal gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts, who come together to discuss Wikimedia wikis and collaboratively edit. There's no set agenda, and guests are welcome to recommend articles for the group to edit or edit on their own.

If you're coming by Metro, the closest station is Dupont Circle (on the Red Line). If you're driving, a lot of parking opens up downtown after 6:30 PM, so finding a parking space (even a free one) should be easy. Once you've found the building, go to Cove on the second floor. We will be in the conference room.

When: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

I don't deny that he's notable, but as it stands now, the article looks like a resume. Can you rewrite the career and education sections to provide more of a chronology, and concentrate on his notable achievements? I'm sure you're aware of WP:LINKEDIN. Museum hacks and museum edits

Hello there!

Upcoming events:

  • February 6–8: The third annual ArtBytes Hackathon at the Walters Art Museum! This year Wikimedia DC is partnering with the Walters for a hack-a-thon at the intersection of art and technology, and I would like to see Wikimedia well represented.
  • February 11: The monthly WikiSalon, same place as usual. RSVP on Meetup or just show up!
  • February 15: Wiki Loves Small Museums in Ocean City. Mary Mark Ockerbloom, with support from Wikimedia DC, will be leading a workshop at the Small Museum Association Conference on how they can contribute to Wikipedia. Tons of representatives from GLAM institutions will be present, and we are looking for volunteers. If you would like to help out, check out "Information for Volunteers".

I am also pleased to announce events for Wikimedia DC Black History Month with Howard University and NPR. Details on those events soon.

Duplicate parameters in templates

Hi Jarekt, I just saw your comment on task T85352. In the German wikipedia, we were able to empty our category, mainly via this script from User:PerfektesChaos, sometimes with the help of this tool (copy source code to first textbox, hit "calculate"). The text there is in German, but I can translate it if you like. More complex cases like parameter names that are defined based on arguments or parser functions still need manual work, but those are rare. --mfb (talk) 17:21, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

mfb, Thank you, I might use those. We are still In the early stages trying to fix all the templates which are then transcluded (with the problem) to a bunch of files and some of those templates, which are calling other templates (some of which might have parameter names that are defined based on arguments), are terribly hard to figure out. That is why task T85352 will be a tremendous help. Once we are done with all the templates than individual files should be simpler and I will try WikiSyntaxTextMod. --Jarekt (talk) 20:05, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
That feature works nicely, it can handle conflicts down the template chain as well, including parameter names that depend on parameters. It does not help much for existing problems in citations, however. Dzień dobry. Proszę o pomoc w przywróceniu zdjęcia File:Tomasz Sakiewicz.JPG, które moim zdaniem pochopnie usunął Kanadyjczyk. Tu jest źródło https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHh5RFf1cIs i widać, że nagranie zostało wykonane własnoręcznie przez tego użytkownika (można porównać jego głos np. tutaj https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N815iZcpQ8I). Nagranie z Tomaszem Sakiewiczem pochodzi z Poznania i większość przesłanych przez tego użytkownika filmów pochodzi z Poznania i okolic (Gniezno, Konin). Moim zdaniem wszystko jest jak najbardziej OK. Dziękuję.

Sandbox situation.

I appreciate that you are trying to research things, but by transcluding a mainspace page to the userspace, you are causing the categories that are on the userspace page to show up in categories which should only have mainspace pages. Naraht, We were discussing some issues on Wikidata and I needed to demonstrate that infoboxes pulling stuff from Wikidata do not work when used as templates. I think the experiment is over and I will undo it. Thanks for alerting me that it is a problem. --Jarekt (talk) 01:06, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
NP. If you are debugging issues with template and Wikidata, then you definitely know more than 99%+ of the people who have userpages with mainspace cats. @Greg L:, I looked at the bulbs and most do not have any markings other than "USA 1" and "USA 5" on 2 different identical bulbs. One bulb by a different manufactures that fits this flash is "Sylvania P25". Hope that helps. --Jarekt (talk) 01:59, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. GE's No. 5 came first and then Sylvania came out with their equivalent of it, the No. 25. What you have in your photo is either the 5B (GE) or 25B (Sylvania). GE performed all the R&D heavy lifting in the late 30s and early 40s, all from their Nela Park labs, which is one of the last businesses still alive (Kodak died, Popular Photography earlier this year). AWB Module help request

Greetings, there is a discussion on the AWB talk page requesting some help with a new module that can scrape a list of articles and create an offline list of the red links from those articles. I see you are a talented programmer who has done a lot of cool modules in the past. I am a bit preoccupied to start another project as I am working on a lot of Lua modules for comparing Wikidata info with creator and institution templates on Commons and I was not working with AWB modules lately. AWB modules like the one in c:User:JarektBot/AWB_Modules#Scrape_creator_data_off_from_Category:People_by_name can scrape anything that you can write regular expression for into external file. Then I would just format the output in excel into something that has *{{#ifexist:X||[[X]]}}<nowiki></nowiki> for each article (replace X with scraped article name). I am unfamiliar with Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation process. I usually just follow WP:BOLD principle and create new articles as needed. I would give it 24 hours and if there are no comments I would just move Draft:Brad Smith to main namespace. I became an Articles for creation participant, tried to relieve some of the backlog (reviewed 17 so far, declined 12, accepted 5), but only find the backlog growing. So it doesn't seem like Brad Smith will come up soon in the normal course of things, and if you do think it is ready for prime time, I'd be glad to take you up on that kind offer. (I put what I think would be the right categories at the bottom in a nowiki section.) Or if you think the draft is not ready, please say what to fix, and I will make every effort to do so. He's apparently one of those people who quietly, calmly makes the world work, without drama and showmanship. I hoped to convey that in the article. GRuban, Most articles on Wikipedia grow slowly through many edits from many editors. Some editors are motivated by liking the subject and some by not liking the subject and many of them are not very polished writers. This article has uniform and very positive style with phrases like " But he didn't shy away from fighting the US government to protect user privacy, being called Apple Inc.'s staunchest ally ", etc. I think it's main issue is that person in Brad Smith's position has to be liked by some and criticized by others, and this article shows only one side of the story. It is a bit like a product on Amazon with 50 5-star reviews and nobody having anything bad to say. The positive spin combined with mostly-single author makes the article read like autobiography and I think that is what the {{peacock}} and {{COI}} templates warn about. I think there are 2 things that can be done by you (if you want): find things Brad Smith is criticized for (assuming there is criticism in credible publications) and add them to the article, ask around for other editors to help with editing. Otherwise I would leave it alone and let others find and improve it. Thanks for working on it, I often feel like Wikipedia takes some deep dives into articles about most minor actors or Poky-man characters, but often lacks even stub articles for business leaders. --Jarekt (talk) 14:01, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

OK, the tags are gone. Hurrah! But I do want to have the article be the best it can be. Would you consider this a less-peacocky improvement on the sentence you point out?

 Done that is an improvement. The language is a bit more dull, but caries the same information content in less space. I agree that it does not seem like anybody has anything bad to say about him, but I also agree with classicwiki that only-positive-side plus flowery language makes people suspicious about POV and COI. That said that is definitely article we should have and I am happy to assist as a second opinion. Global templates

Hi!

You are one of the people who promoted the idea of a Central Global Repository for Templates, Lua modules, and Gadgets back in 2015.

It was not implemented, but it's still very much needed.

Then why not just cite the text contained in that image in a bibliographic citation template instead of adding a photograph of the text? It is not as if this book is so historic that our readers will benefit more by seeing a photo of the page than being able to read the text of the page, using screen readers for example.
