Different versions of the book

Thanks for the compliments. I'm not sure of your question, Do you have a web page or a Kindle, iPhone, .CHM or PDF file on this?? I've got a website, but it doesn't have any book contents, just some links and info. And there is a Kindle version of the book, although a review of that version (at amazon.com) was pretty negative about the quality of the figures. (And of course the Kindle version isn't free.) Finally, O'Reilly Media, though their digital online books site, Safari, has an online version; again, that's not free. (While there is a pdf version that I used for final proofreading, it has no embedded links, so - arguably - it's not that useful. I've not had any discussions with O'Reilly about making that version available to anyone.) -- John Broughton (♫♫) 19:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interestingly, the German Wikipedia is testing a wiki-to-pdf/document system]; once the English Wikipedia has this (or when the book is moved to Wikibooks - something under discussion, since Wikibooks already has this functionality), then it would be easy to create a pdf book version. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coalition casualties in the war in Afghanistan

I wanted to discuss with you about your support for the deletion of this article. You said it is simply to create an amendment to the numbers of Canadian Casualties. That's wrong, it's not just about the Canadians, it's also about the Americans, about 30 US soldiers have been killed who are listed as being killed in the war but are not listed in that other article because they didn't die within the borders of Afghanistan, I listed them in this one. You said I just simply edit the Canadian Casualties article. What good will that do? People will go to the main article of coalition casualties and think the number there is the main number number, both for Canadians and the US. That other article is diminishing the real number of soldiers killed in the war. You said this is just a copy, it's not, it doesn't contain the names of soldiers killed as that other article. Also I changed a lot of the text and removed a lot and was going to customise the article even further in the comming days so for it not to be a copy of that other article, I just used that other one as a basis for this one. When I'm finished they will be totaly different. You said the original page should be an overview page anyway. Overview of what? Yes it should be an overview, but of all soldiers who died in support of the war and not just those in the country itself. There have been hundreds of US soldiers who died in Laos and Cambodia but are listed as killed in Vietnam (Vietnam war). What do you recomend, I would like to hear your opinion, there NEEDS to be an article that tells the whole number of all Coalition casualties, all US soldiers and all Canadian, as it is now, this new article contains a number that is by 30 bigger than that original one.BobaFett85 (talk) 16:36, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

responded on BobaFett85 talk page. Still support deletion of this article. Jez t e C 12:57, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have started an article on US deaths in the WHOLE war. So far I have listed the names of 115 soldiers, about 515 left to go. I proposed a compromise solution. That we dedicate a whole subsection of the old article to out-of-country deaths that are the result of the war. It's seems that at least one editor who supports the deletion of this new article supports my proposition. When I finish this article on US war dead we will be able to confirm how many died outside of Afghanistan while supporting the war. But by my calculations currently, based on icasualties.org 28 died outside Afghanistan, not including Pakistan and Uzbekistan. However, based on icasualties.org I found that 601 died in Afghanistan and around Afghanistan, and not 595 as the DoD says, that's bad information on their part and should be corrected in the article. Also, I proposed since we will have a list of US, UK, Canadian and Australian war dead in four separate articles we could cut down the article by removing specific incidents of dead of US, UK, Canadian and Australian soldiers killed so for the article not to be so long. We will leave reports of specific incidents of other soldiers killed.BobaFett85 (talk) 17:12, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have finished the article American Forces casualties in the war in Afghanistan and have thus removed American, Australian, Canadian, British and German casualties names and incidents from the article Coalition casualties in Afghanistan since they all now have their separate articles. But editors have started a discussion here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#American Forces casualties in the war in Afghanistan that the article is to much of a memorial. I know you wanted three months ago to start this article because of these problems so I would appreciate any help in the discussion.BobaFett85 (talk) 07:05, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article has been nominated for deletion. Your help would be highly apreciated since the article is needed. We can discuss on a compromise solution with the others how to change the article so it would suit the others. The discussion is here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/American Forces casualties in the war in Afghanistan.BobaFett85 (talk) 10:09, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coalition Combat Operations in Afghanistan 2006 / 2007 / 2008

Hi Jez, thanks for the comment. I originally created the article as a result of NATO expansion in Southern Afghanistan that turned into a fight. Also because the ‘order of battle’ article only reflected the current disposition of coalition forces and not what will become historical. To be honest, I don’t think timeline articles are that useful or interesting. They lack depth and context. I’m cool though with timeline articles being created 2005 onwards. But I would not be keen on the articles I created (which do need improving) being converted into timelines. There are other wars that have articles on campaigns and timelines alongside each other, so no reason why there cannot be both for A'stan. I would prefer that the Timeline of the War in Afghanistan (2001–present) article, in the sections for 2006 onwards, linked through to the articles I created and, if created, timelines for those years. Kind regards.

Cool. I doubt I would have time to create them, but would be more than happy to contribute. Chwyatt (talk) 08:14, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There won't be any newsletters from this project, I'm afraid, at least not on my instigation, as with only 10 or so members it's still easy to follow what is going on. However, I do regularly update the various project pages, so if you ensure they are on your watchlist, you'll be able to keep track of what's happening.--Kudpung (talk) 08:37, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
