Please, minor help?

Hi Justin, I made a mistake posting this to another editor's page. I was looking for the song "Caravan" co-written by Van Morrison and Robbie Robertson, and performed by both during the "Last Waltz" concert on the disambiguation page for the word "Caravan" but it was not there. Puzzling- here's the note intended for you:

I might have been buzzing through the disambig. page for the Van Morrison/Robbie Robertson song, "Caravan", seen here: Caravan I might have been buzzing through the disambig. page too quickly, or perhaps maybe someone fixed it since. I do think the song should be listed on the disambig. page. Can you take a look at it? If it's just my need for glasses and a need to climb out of this heavy depression since I am still not healed and the operations on my belly were so badly botched, please forgive me. Hopefully I'll have a computer soon. It sure doesn't help that this Win XP computer of Dad's is already unable to show even the Wikipedia logo, much less one, single photo that I uploaded and placed, which was my priority in editing! Maybe next month we can afford to set up the info and hard drive of a new computer I got 6 months ago, which just sits unused. How sad. Thanks for any help you can provide. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:00, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

@Leahtwosaints: It's here: Caravan#Music_and_radio. How are you feeling? Was the operation successful? —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:48, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! Actually, I need to email you about the medical problems --for too many people it would be TMI and distasteful to leave here. The operations were done two years ago almost, and most of 2015 spent learning to hold a spoon, move any part of my body since after going in the hospital I went into a coma for a couple of months during which every muscle in my body atophied so rehab doesn't begin to describe the painful long hours there. I find myself alone with a brand new computer given me for the birthdays and Christmases but don't have the green light from my Dad to have software placed in it. This, his computer is a Win XP and my old one was unplugged for the new one, but now neither is being used, just this one, since Dad still teaches at the University of MD - John Pease, and his office is a ten minute walk from the house, he just mostly uses that one. Suffice it to say, the wounds haven't healed in all this time except for the tracheostomy, that just has a scar. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 14:22, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
@Leahtwosaints: Goodness gracious. How can I help, Leah? —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:35, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi! I see that you're not an admin. What? You're the hardest-working person on Wikipedia (almost 1.5 million edits) and not an admin? We'll have to rectify that! I'm asking your permission to nominate you :-) David Cannon (talk) 13:12, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

@Davidcannon: That's nice of you. I've had a couple of RFAs that did not go well and the main reason was because I was unprepared and they happened on a lark. I'd need to brush up on the fine points of adminship before I did it. I may take you up on the offer later. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 15:16, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough:-) Okay then, I'll give it a month or two and then check up with you again, shall I? Cheers! David Cannon (talk) 15:18, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
@Davidcannon: Sounds good. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 15:20, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Redirect tagging

I notice that you are adding categories to redirects using HotCat when there are templates which better serve the same purpose. I don't know if you choose not to for some reason or if you do, why, but there is a selection of templates located at Template:R template index. The templates are better in my opinion because they not only add categories but provide explanations/descriptions. I just thought it would be worth mentioning. Thanks. Dustin (talk) 03:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

@Dustin V. S.: Thanks. HotCat already disallows adding most redirect categories anyway. A bot can easily convert instances of [[Category:Unprintworthy redirects]] to {{r unprintworthy}}. In fact, someone should make that bot... —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:17, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea, actually. I don't know if there is a specific place for bot requests, but I may take a look... Thanks for the speedy response! Dustin (talk) 03:19, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
@Dustin V. S.: WP:BOTREQUEST. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:21, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Re: ETWHT and non-breaking spaces

I said that it was inaccurate because I (had) thought it was in the MoS that non-breaking spaces primarily be used so browsers do not insert line breaks between things like amounts and "40 reviews". I just thought it was excessive to use it for the names of places, people and things (and even then, somewhat inconsistently). However, since it's most likely a style preference, that's something it's hard to debate. Ss112 06:54, 12 July 2015 (UTC) Ss112 06:54, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

A Request

Hi, I was wondering if you could confirm me because I want access to the extra features on Wikipedia. I just started and I believe that I have enough edits over my first day that will show that I am not a vandal and that I am here in good faith. I already looked at the dorm for making these requests and it said most looking to get expedited from the 4 day wait are denied so I decided to come directly to an administrator. I would really appreciate it if you would confirm me and it would be an honor for you to be the one. Thank You TheEditorOfAllThingsWikipedia (talk) 19:31, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

@Theeditorofallthingswikipedia: We're happy to have you here and I'm sure that you have plenty to add but I'm not an admin. You'll be confirmed shortly and then will have almost all of the same abilities on the site that I do. —Justin (koavf)TCM 12:09, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

List of Led Zeppelin songs written or inspired by others

You removed the images from List of Led Zeppelin songs written or inspired by others, without any explanation in your edit comments. I need to understand why you did this. They were standard Wikimedia images already used in other articles. — Kaz (talk) 18:33, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

@Kazvorpal: WP:NFUR explains our fair use rationales for non-free media. These album covers are non-free media and thus need a strong defense of why they are being included in our articles. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:35, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
I know that, and the use in that article is specifically intended to meet this criterion: "Is the image being used as the primary means of visual identification of the subject or topic? (e.g., a corporate logo or the box art of a DVD)" In order to make the breakdown of the list easily parsed by the user, the visual representation of the CD box art is essential. It's already a struggle enough to present this much information readably, the album breakdown is what facilitates it. — Kaz (talk) 19:44, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
@Kazvorpal: Non-free media can't be added to list articles like this. In the article about Led Zeppelin's fourth album, using the cover identifies the main topic and the design of the art is discussed at length: providing a visual cue has great value educationally. In this list, it's merely decorative. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:47, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Removing Persondata template

May I ask you to leave this to bots? You are spamming watchlists with "funcationality replaced by Wikidata", and contrary to bots, you can't be filtered in watchlists. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 04:13, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

@Materialscientist: Are bots doing this? If so, then sure. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:14, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
I don't know, but the template is used on 1 million pages, and such removals should be centralized. it is easy to ask a bot owner to include this removal into some other task. Otherwise, it can be removed with AWB as part of other fixes, but this should not become a sole AWB task, as it would violate rule of use #4. Materialscientist (talk) 04:20, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
@Materialscientist: Well, I am doing other things in general. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:21, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Sure, but not in this particular case, where you've set an AWB task with a mistyped edit summary that does only removal. Example [5]. Materialscientist (talk) 04:25, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
@Materialscientist: Ha. Thanks for the heads-up on the typo. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:27, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
The point is not about that typo, but about setting an AWB task that makes no visible improvement (except maybe for a minute reduction in the article load time). Materialscientist (talk) 04:29, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
@Materialscientist: I understand that. You don't need to repeat yourself. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:30, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Merci to you!

Hey Man, thanks for your message. I’m living in the United States too and am (or try to be) fluent in English. I was so surprised that Magnapop wasn’t created on the French Wikipedia. It was one of my favorite band when I was younger (in the nineties, I was living in France at the time) and they played live in 1994 on the biggest French public radio station (France Inter) on a show called the “Black Sessions” (a French version of the BBC Radio’s “Peel Sessions” or the KEXP’s “Live on KEXP”). Actually, it’s by visiting your profile on the English Wikipedia that I discovered the article. And I did visit your profile because there was a conversation about you yesterday on the French Wikipedia village pump (we call it “Le Bistro”), related to an article about you in the Belgian newspaper Le Soir. Thanks for the Magnapop article and thanks for your huge contribution to Wikipedia :-) --Deansfa (talk) 15:27, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

@Deansfa: So odd to me. I still get inquiries on a regular basis about that. I have heard that Black Session actually and I have to admit that I'm biased as Ruthie is my cousin but I love Magnapop. They were always more popular in Benelux, so it's surprising that Dutch and French versions of Wikipedia had no info on them--thanks for starting it! For what it's worth, your English looks fine to me and if you ever want any assistance with it, let me know. Was my attempt at French even intelligible? —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Yes your French was intelligible! Some small typo mistakes (por -> pour, de le États -> des États, la article -> l'article) but totally understandable. Congrats about Ruthie being your cousin, the world is small :-) Thanks again for your contributions, I hope I will be able contribute more on the Magnapop article. --Deansfa (talk) 22:09, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi there. I had at one point a picture of the emblem, but someone took it down since I did not have authorization according to them even though I am an SAL Post Commander in Ohio who created the page. Would you be able to get one up on the page? Thank you. - Kiraroshi1976 (talk) 05:39, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

@Kiraroshi1976: That sounds doable. Our guidelines favor free media--that's free as in freedom, not free like no cost. Most of our files should be media that anyone can use for any purpose. Sometimes, we allow files under fair use which have some kind of copyright restrictions but serve an educational purpose. Most logos, emblems, etc. would fall under this criterion. Do you have a digital copy of the emblem that I can see? —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:44, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
