Hi, thanks for your message. The only reason I added references in there was due to an ongoing dispute between editors about whether the page should be a redirect to one of the linked articles, and this was to demonstrate that there is no justification for that stance. If you happen to be interested in this particular situation, please have a look at the history which should link to the discussions. Cheers. Crowsus (talk) 12:47, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

XYZ

Hi, I noted you removed the reference to XYZ London-based brand experience agency, but kept in the one about a production company? I did not add for promotional purposes and I'm not affiliated in any way, I just thought it would be fine to add in more details. Please can you explain? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Experienz3 (talkcontribs) 15:19, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Experienz3, I've moved this discussion to your talk page. Leschnei (talk) 11:48, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Edward Hardy (disambiguation)

Note that the reason the primary topic redirects to Edward W. Hardy is because the same SPA editor unilaterally decided to make this the primary topic. I'm currently discussing this at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation#Primary topic on a dab page, if you wish to make any comment. Thank you. Richard3120 (talk) 00:00, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

@Richard3120: thanks for letting me know. I did think that Edward W. Hardy probably isn't the primary topic, I'm glad you are pursuing it and I'll check out the discussion. Leschnei (talk) 11:22, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

St. John's Academy (disambiguation)

Thanks for the edits to St. John's Academy. Can you explain the "see also" for Hamilton-Oneida Academy. I do not see that article reference a related name. Thank you! --Engineerchange (talk) 13:39, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

@Engineerchange: Hah! I have no idea why I put that there. Thanks for catching it. I've removed it now. Leschnei (talk) 16:37, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

About Goodbye Summer

Hello, I noticed you have removed the concert name from Goodbye Summer. I had added the entry two months prior. I came to know about the concert from this article by Matiur Rahman. Though the concert has no article yet, I want to re-add the entry. Can you please help in this regard? — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 12:13, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

@Meghmollar2017: Disambiguation pages are simply navigation pages, helping readers find information in existing articles. If the reader wants to know about the concert, and you send them to an article that doesn't even mention it, that's going to be pretty frustrating. If you could add the concert to an existing article, it could then be put on the DAB page as a DABMENTION. Leschnei (talk) 13:05, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
I understand. Thank you :) (also thanks for the DABMENTION link) — Meghmollar2017 (UTC) — 15:02, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Ubeidiya disambiguation

Unfortunately, Ubeidiya (disambiguation) did not exist. I have now created it. - Donald Albury 15:08, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Albury: Thanks for catching my mistake! Leschnei (talk) 17:58, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

I am not certain what the final answer should be. The problem is the building does not longer appear to be a clinic in the original sense. I know Wikipedia, does not like ", Catania" suffixes. I just disagree, because in broad category lists, it makes clear location. just my 2 cents. I do not have strong opinions either way. Rococo1700 (talk) 22:57, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

@Rococo1700: I don't feel that strongly either, and I won't change it. I'm just feeling my way through the article-naming thing. Leschnei (talk) 22:59, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Copa Cusenier doubt

Hi, Leschnei, regarding your edit on Copa de Honor Cousenier (disambiguation), I'd like to know why did you revert my edit (a redirect to the original Copa de Honor Cousenier article). I made that redirect so the article is not a disambiguation page at all, but it only has links to each edition of the competition (which are already included not only in the original article but in the Template:Copa de Honor Cousenier.

I think that "Copa de Honor Cousenier (disambiguation)" article is completely useless or at least, redundant. Fma12 (talk) 02:00, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Fma12, I reverted your edit because you deleted the page without any discussion and, since no one is going to type in 'Copa de Honor Cousenier (disambiguation)' if they're looking for one of the articles, it seemed slightly less useless to have a redundant DAB page. Though it's hard to imagine how the reader would find themselves there in the first place.
The best solution is probably to delete the page altogether. However, redirect or DAB page are more likely results of any deletion discussion. I have no real objection to either - if you think it works better as a redirect, I won't revert again. Leschnei (talk) 11:07, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Leschnei: thanks for your quick reply and eagerness to cooperate. I redirected the page without any previous discussion because I didn't think it was necessary for the reasons given above, so the Copa Cusenier editions are easy to find if you type, p.e., "1906 Copa de Honor Cousenier...." and so on.
In fact, my first intention was to nominate the article for deletion but than I chose to redirect the page as a simplier and shorter way. I'll consider the best option to solve this before taking any action. Fma12 (talk) 11:20, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Wolf man, and wolf girl

Hello. I've read the summary you gave for reverting my edit to Wolf man (disambiguation). I have not come to contest this. My question is that, being of similar topics differing only by gender, shouldn't they be cross linked? Did I cross linked the articles in the wrong section? Perhaps a statement following the lede sentence specifying the female equivalent is a wolf girl, with a link to that page, would be more appropriate. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 19:46, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

CJDOS, thanks for your question - if Wolf man (disambiguation) were a regular article, then Wolf girl would be an entirely appropriate addition. Disambiguation pages, on the other hand, are intended only to help readers distinguish between articles with easily mixed up titles, like Wolfman (video game) and The Wolf Man (1924 film). The See also section includes similar terms, such as spelling differences or different forms of a word (you can read MOS:DABSEEALSO if you want a better explanation). I didn't think that someone would type in 'Wolf girl' if they were actually looking for 'Wolf man'. Leschnei (talk) 00:17, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
But, what about my suggestion of including a statement following the lede sentence, like: "The female equivalent is a wolf girl." Applied in that manner, it could be described as encyclopedic—would that not fit better than in § See also? — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 05:04, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
CJDOS, again, from MOS for disambiguation pages: "When appropriate, place easily confused terms or commonly confused alternate spellings in a hatnote instead of a See also section". So it really depends on whether you think that readers will easily confuse 'Wolf man' and 'Wolf girl'. Many editors wouldn't change it and I was probably feeling particularly pedantic when I removed Wolf girl. DAB pages are supposed to be streamlined and to-the-point so that readers can quickly scan to find their particular article, so hatnotes tend to be limited to easily made mistakes like Belmont and Belmonte.
Batman (disambiguation) doesn't include Batwoman (disambiguation), and visa versa. Superman (disambiguation) doesn't include any variations, but Superboy (disambiguation) and Supergirl (disambiguation) have them all, so the "correct" answer is a moving target.
In short, the removal was based on my opinion. If you strongly feel that it would benefit the readers to have it there, put it back and I'll leave it be. Leschnei (talk) 12:40, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Please don't remove information about names from disambiguation pages

You could have just removed the reference from Caetano instead of reverting everything and even removing information from it.

Other disambiguation pages for names without etymological articles also mention their origins, since this information is relevant for people looking up a name. See Marcelo, Agostinho and dozens of other examples in Category:Portuguese_masculine_given_names. --177.32.62.139 (talk) 20:58, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Cleanup tags

Hi, do you know which tags like disambig-cleanup should be used on a soccer player and name page respectively with non-standard arrangements please? 19:50, 28 November 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:38FC:A300:39CC:30EE:F972:7F69 (talk)

As far as I know, there is no cleanup tag that is specific for name pages. For both a soccer player article and a name page, I would suggest looking at Wikipedia:Template index/Cleanup. Maybe something in the section Structure, formatting and sections would work. Leschnei (talk) 23:25, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

RD

If you look at the reference that I provided you would see that Microsoft refers to remote desktop as RD several times 9 by my count and also on this page as well. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/rds-plan-access-from-anywhere I suspected that the link would be removed but the use of RD to refer to remote desktop is valid Unconventional2 (talk · contribs · email) 05:43, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Unconventional2 - DAB pages merely provide navigation to existing Wikipedia articles; all content (including references) should be in the linked articles (WP:DABREF). If RD is a common acronym for Remote Desktop than it should say so in Remote Desktop Protocol, but the only RD-like acronym is RDP. Could your reference be easily slipped into Remote Desktop Protocol as support for the RD? Leschnei (talk) 12:20, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, that seems like the the solution I was looking for! I will make a stab at adding the info to the article. Unconventional2 (talk · contribs · email) 15:52, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for cleaning up Majorana, just wonder if marjoram, the equation and fermion fail WP:PARTIAL wouldn't the prize also (also, it's entry just points to a redirect)?
Cristoforo's fl. date needs a fix too. -- 14:34, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up on the date. I fixed it. As to you other points - yes, Majorana Prize is a WP:PARTIAL but I thought that it was more likely that readers would be looking for it and more likely to be called 'The Majorana'. I hesitated over marjoram but finally decided that, since there are several plants whose names include 'majorana', it would be better to simply lump them under {{in title}}. Obviously these are simply my opinion; I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. Leschnei (talk) 14:43, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Disambig OpenOffice

Hi, thanks for cleaning up the page for OpenOffice. While it is true that a disambig page it not supposed to be a list of software, this situation is specific. In my experience many people still use the name "OpenOffice" for what actually has been "LibreOffice" for like 10 years. So I suggest I would extend Apache OpenOffice (AOO), a derivative of OOo by the Apache Software Foundation, with contribution from IBM Lotus Symphony with , a close cousin of LibreOffice and NeoOffice. What do you think about it? --FDominec (talk) 09:00, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

FDominec@, since OpenOffice is mentioned in Apache OpenOffice, I'd say it's legitimate to add it. Please keep the description as succinct as possible (per MOS:DABENTRY), maybe just
"Apache OpenOffice (AOO), a close cousin of LibreOffice and NeoOffice".
The rest isn't needed for disambiguation. And only Apache OpenOffice should be wikilinked. Some of the other descriptions could probably be trimmed as well, but I don't know enough about software to do it properly. Leschnei (talk) 12:57, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Noviomagus disambiguation.

Hi, I have noticed your edit which commented out a large section of this new summary as "potential DABCONCEPT material". I am unsure why this edit has been made, I think that a disambiguation page is suitable for this subject and would not classify this as a "broad subject" under Wikipedia's definitions. That said, I think this page would benefit from a little info on the pitfalls of using the ancient and modern forms of this word.

Can you tell me why you made this edit? Ay suggestions on how to improve this section would also be welcomed. Thanks, Cymrogogoch (talk) 10:57, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Cymrogogoch Thanks for your question. I commented out the information in the lead because disambiguation pages are supposed to be guides to existing article content - simply a navigation page, as opposed to an information page. There is no existing page (that I know of) on the ancient and modern forms of the word to link to and, though I'm not familiar with this area, I thought that it might be a useful article, so I commented out the information instead of removing it. If you feel strongly that the other information needs to be there than I would suggest (1) simplify and (2) no extra links, as the only links on the page should be to articles that are being disambiguated. Perhaps:
"The place name Noviomagus is a Latinisation of the Celtic elements Nouyos meaning "new" and -magos meaning "field" or "market". It may refer to: "
I think that the detail you added in parentheses after each entry provides enough detail about the various celtic tribes. Leschnei (talk) 19:07, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply Leschnei, it's all very useful information, I agree that the parenthesis on each list item is enough to cover the tribes. However, the modern epithet's discussed on the individual Noviomagus articles are very desperate interpretations and poorly sourced.
I think we can both agree that discussion of the epitaphs would ultimately be better served by a singular Noviomagus article, but for now I have added a sentence to your last edit without external links. Hopefully this will better suit a disambiguation article and give a small insight into the words origins and uses.Cymrogogoch (talk) 15:58, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
Looks good. Leschnei (talk) 23:34, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Younger

  • There are many things on Wikipedia that have no Wikipedia article. We do not delete them, as they may have a Wikipedia page later.

So please do not delete - undo them. Telecine Guy (talk) 01:30, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

@Telecineguy: if Younger was an article, I would agree with you. But disambiguation page guidelines clearly state that external links should not be included since the whole point of DAB pages is to lead readers to existing articles (Wikipedia:Disambiguation#External links). I tried to find an article that mentions a band named Younger, but failed, so I removed it. I'm not sure what you mean by undo rather than delete - can you explain? Leschnei (talk) 11:43, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Per disambiguation page guidelines external link move to talk page. Thank you, Telecine Guy (talk) 15:16, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
@Telecineguy: thanks for letting me know, but it doesn't solve the problem that this band and album are not mentioned in any article. Without an article link, it doesn't belong on the DAB page at all. Leschnei (talk) 23:20, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
  • You can not delete everything on Wikipedia that does not have a page (yet). That would be a lot of text. Disambiguation pages are for things that have the same name.Telecine Guy (talk) 23:28, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
@Telecineguy: I disagree - the whole purpose of DAB pages is to lead readers to existing content (as stated in the very first sentence of MOS:DAB and the MOS:DABNOLINK section of the same page). If the band becomes 'notable' and is added to an article, that would be the appropriate time to add it to the disambiguation page. Again, this intentionally differs from articles where red links are encouraged. Leschnei (talk) 23:50, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Rukia8492 Thanks for letting me know. Editors sometimes put commented-out references on DAB pages if some explanation seems necessary. Leschnei (talk) 22:12, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Just wondering

With this edit you said you "removed an unambiguos entry" from the DAB page (also BTW thank you for fixing the other link). I have not seen that before -- not a typo for "ambigous" I guess bc the entry was indeed a straight-up link... It could be that the link is just not really useful on that page tho... was that it? Not complaining, just wanting to learn, what is the reason for that? Herostratus (talk) 16:44, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

@Herostratus:, oops on the typo - my fingers sometimes get ahead of my brain. Your 'this edit' points back to my user page, but I assume you mean Tommy Gun (disambiguation). My reason for removing Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner is stated in the first sentence of the MOS for DAB pages: "Disambiguation pages ... are designed to help a reader find the right Wikipedia article when different topics could be referred to by the same search term". I didn't think that someone would type 'Tommy Gun' if searching for the song - the song title is not ambiguous. Leschnei (talk) 11:30, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
Ah very well TIL, thanks =) Herostratus (talk) 02:43, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Why reverting my edit?

Why on Earth would you revert my addition to Laptop disambiguation? Is Brooklyn Film Festival entry not noteworthy enough for you? NeonPuffin (talk) 12:28, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Disambiguation pages are supposed to lead readers to information in Wikipedia articles. If a reader goes to Brooklyn Film Festival looking for information on the film, they will be disappointed because there's no section on 2013. I did a search but couldn't find mention of the film in any article. My edit was consistent with MOS for DAB pages. Leschnei (talk) 14:59, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Re: Remete

Yes, they should be (they're fairly typical gazetteer entries per WP:5P1). Indeed, when you would omit the red link, there'd be people who would be creating pipe links where Remete was mentioned to point to Maksimir, which would be like having "Maksimir" pipe links which would not be good. I added the red links to the Maksimir list as well. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 13:49, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

@Joy: thanks for that link. It's been a while since I read Wikipedia:Five pillars! Leschnei (talk) 21:30, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
Heh. Just to clarify, fundamentally my logic is that if we can have an article on a village of existed for a hundred years and appears on relevant maps and indices and then became abandoned, an article on a city district that has the same properties, and still exists, has WP:POTENTIAL. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 07:34, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Advice on how to deal with chaotic editing of disambiguation Umut

Hi Leschnei! I saw that you made some past edits of the disambiguation Umut so maybe you can offer some advice on what one (I) should/could do about the page. There seems to be what I assume is a Turkish/Kurdish political fight with back and forth editing. The language question is beyond my expertise but since my own completely unrelated addition to the disambiguation got removed as well I though I should do something. Is there something more clever I can do than just reverting the unexplained additions and deletions? Grateful for any advice! SakurabaJun (talk) 01:06, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

@SakurabaJun: Usually I would advise starting a conversation on the talk page, but I don't have any confidence that this would accomplish anything, so I split the page into a name page (Umut) and a disambiguation page (Umut (disambiguation)). Leschnei (talk) 12:31, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! That's an option I didn't think about. I agree a talk page would be the place to start in the ideal case, but I too felt it would yield nothing given the previous contributions and absence of edit summaries etc. Still, I guess I should start that way next time and give people the benefit of the doubt. Thanks again for the quick reply! SakurabaJun (talk) 12:42, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
@SakurabaJun: I left a message on the editor's talk page last October, so I was less inclined to give the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes it's easier to just avoid the confrontation. Leschnei (talk) 12:50, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Sugar Mama

Hi! I'm Vides Ut Alta, an Italian wikipedian. Why did you delete my small contribute on the page "Sugar Mama" about the Ensi song? I can't see any reason. Wait for an answer on my discussion page. Thanks :) --Vides Ut Alta (talk) 15:00, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

@Vides Ut Alta: According to the Manual of Style for disambiguation pages, entries should either have an article or be mentioned in an article (MOS:DABMENTION). The reasoning behind this is that disambiguation pages are supposed to lead readers to existing content. If the item isn't even mentioned on the linked page, it doesn't help the reader to send them there. If an article about the album or song is written in the future, it could then be added back to the disambiguation page. Leschnei (talk) 23:23, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
First of all, the page where I put the information wasn't a disambiguation page. Moreover, there are other four information, two of them have an article about them and two others don't, and they have only the link to the artist, in one case, or to the album in the other one. My contribute, as the other two in the section, had the link to the artist page. For these two reasons, I think that my contribute had the same right to stay there as the other two before it. You didn't delete the others, so I think that even mine shouldn't be deleted. If you agree, I would like to put it again in its place. Thank you. --Vides Ut Alta Vides Ut Alta (talk) 13:37, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
Waiting for an answer to re-edit the page. Let me know!--Vides Ut Alta (talk) Vides Ut Alta (talk) 09:20, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
@Vides Ut Alta: First, Sugar Mama is a disamnbiguation page. Second, the term ‘Sugar Mama’ is mentioned in the listed articles Drama (Bitter:Sweet album) and Dua Saleh; it is not mentioned in Ensi (rapper). Leschnei (talk) 11:52, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Marar

Hiya. I'm not a big expert on redirects/DAB pages, but noted you had moved Marar to be the primary topic. An editor keeps blanking/redirecting the Marar page and recreating Marar (tribe), which junks the page history. What's the most elegant solution/outcome here? It's not really my area but seems to be more yours! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:31, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, think I fixed it all by moving Marar to Marar (tribe) and redirecting. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:56, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Alexandermcnabb: This looks like a good solution, unless someone objects to moving Marar (tribe) with no prior discussion. The problem now is that Marar redirects to Marar (disambiguation), which is backwards. Do you have the tools to fix that or should I make a request at WP:Malplaced? Leschnei (talk) 11:48, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
I'd probably be the only person who'd object to that! But it seems like the most elegant/least combative fix. As for the Marar/Marar DAB thing, I have fixed the links in articles which refer to the tribe to now be directly to Marar (tribe), which are the only articles on WP that use that specific name. Beyond that, no, I'm fumbling around in the dark to be honest! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 12:22, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
No problem, I put in a request at WP:malplaced. They'll fix it up. Leschnei (talk) 12:25, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the correction

Hello! thanks for correcting this, I hadn't seen WP:INTDABLINK before, so now I know for next time. Have a good one! DirkJandeGeer щи 15:24, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

@DirkJandeGeer: you're very welcome. Leschnei (talk) 16:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

Removal of iwd (inet wireless daemon)

I see you removed iwd (inet wireless daemon) from the iwd disambiguation page during some cleanups/ordering. Is there a specific reason to remove this, or was this an oversight? HuGo_87 (talk) 14:14, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

@WhyNotHugo: - the removal was intentional. Since disambiguation pages are simply navigation pages leading readers to existing content, each entry should have a link to an existing article about the entry, or at least mentioning the entry. References and external links aren't included because they should be in the articles. I searched for an article that includes 'inet wireless daemon' but didn't find anything. Leschnei (talk) 23:59, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
Indeed, there is no dedicated page for iwd (inet wireless daemon), but I don't think that's enough reason to remove references to it entirely. It's very common for disambiguation pages to include references to definitions that don't have a dedicated page (example which has two: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sway#Other_uses ). The deletion just makes it harder to figure out that there is no dedicated entry. 87.210.125.123 (talk) 11:19, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
@WhyNotHugo: (I'm not sure if the above comment is yours.) It's common for entries that don't have articles, but are mentioned in other articles, to be listed on a DAB page with a 'blue link' to that article included as support. It is not typical for entries to be listed with only an external link (though I'm sure that you could find exceptions - there are lots of DAB pages!). The guidelines are pretty clear on the subject of external links in DAB pages. In general, disambiguation pages aren't the place for new information, they only point to information in existing articles. In the Sway example, none of these entries has an external link. In the 'degrees of freedom' entry, 'Sway is mentioned in Degrees of freedom (mechanics), so it is a WP:DABMENTION. 'Sway AS' should probably be removed because it isn't mentioned in any article, so there's no evidence that it even exists. Leschnei (talk) 12:02, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Disambiguation of Shobhit University

I'm sure disambiguation is important and your work is appreciated, but with all due respect, I think that if you are not sure about a disambiguation, you should not approach it. From the six articles you disambiguated for Shobhit University, you were definitely wrong on four, probably five, and most of the information was readily available in the articles themselves. You could have easily seen that Shobhit University (Gangoh) is not in Meerut and it is not a deemed university. Also, looking at the sources, Anoop Swarup was VC in 2008, before it even existed. --Muhandes (talk) 14:36, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

Muhandes@ You're right - I should have left that one alone. Sorry for the muddle and thanks for fixing it. Leschnei (talk) 22:51, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

The Greatest Story Never Told (disambiguation)

A better fix would be create an article about the film as it is fairly notable. I'm not familiar enough with Wikipedia best practices to do so. 87.67.194.41 (talk) 17:16, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
