Moving pages to Draft space

Hello, Mccapra,

Just a reminder, please do not leave a redirect when you move a page from Article or Talk space to Draft space. These redirects need to be deleted as CSD R2 cross-space redirects and, for some reason, they sometimes don't show up in the Speedy Deletion category even after the page has been tagged. It's simpler to just not create a redirect in the first place. Thanks for all of your work! Liz Read! Talk! 20:55, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

ok thanks I think I’ve obviously missed something there so thanks for pointing it out. Mccapra (talk) 20:57, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Oh, it's okay, they are very simple, uncontroversial deletions. The only issue is that sometimes the tagged pages don't show up in appropriate categories and get missed. Thanks for your work moving undersourced articles back to Draft space. Liz Read! Talk! 21:08, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
@Liz: Mccapra isn't a page mover, and only page movers and admins can choose to not leave redirects. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:02, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi thanks both. I’ve started tagging each redirect with Db-r2 now after I send the article to draft space. If I’m not doing the right thing please advise. Mccapra (talk) 04:08, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
There's no need to do that yourself; the script you're using already adds the tag, so you just end up with 2 malformed tags on the page. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:13, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
ok thanks very much I’ll stop then. All the best Mccapra (talk) 04:16, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I did not know that, Jack. Glad it all seemed to work out. Liz Read! Talk! 04:54, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

hello,

the article has been created, after considering the proficiency of the person. The only reach a wikipedia can give is to keep the article posted for the referencer cited.every author would have about one or two media page referencer.and that is available. kindly do the needful and approve the same. Vasudharini (talk) 15:54, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. If you are saying that the article is the product of extensive research and that it already uses every available reference, then I’m afraid that’s not very good news. We require numerous independent sources to support an article, not pieces the subject has authored or references to him in religious publications associated with him. If the sourcing can’t be improved I’m afraid it is likely that the article will be deleted. All the best Mccapra (talk) 16:07, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

A Page That You Draftified

You moved V Aravind Subramanyam to Draft:V Aravind Subramanyam. I agree that it did not belong in article space, and that it was all right in draft space. I have an update and a comment. It seems that the submitter then moved the page from Draft:V Aravind Subramanyam to Sastha Aravind, another name used by the subject. I don't think that a page should be draftified twice, which is move-warring, so I thought it needed to be sent to AFD. So as the WP:BEFORE, I Googled on both titles. Well, I found the article, and both in Wikipedia and on another web site. So I didn't AFD it, because that looks like copyvio. It is one of those technical cases where the submitter is ripping off their own copyright, but that is still copyvio, and is still G12.

The comment is that there seem to be two draftifying scripts in use by reviewers. The one that you have leaves the draft page tagged for AFC review. The one that I have does not tag the draft page for AFC review. I think it is better not to have the draft page tagged for review, because we know that the NPP reviewer decided it was not ready for article space.

Thanks for draftifying it. We will see if it gets speedied now. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:54, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks see my conversation with the creator in the section above. I’ll take it to AfD if no further sources are forthcoming. All the best. Mccapra (talk) 18:04, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/V Aravind Subramanyam until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:12, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Huh? Twinkle does odd research on the genealogy of pages. I will see if it notified the real author. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:17, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Turkish Conquest

Hello , I have notice you have undone the changes . I am trying to understand, why? The references along with the Arabic page clearly identifying the the nationalities of the soldiers and the army. I was wondering why you haven't initiated a discussion with me to point you to the sources before editing the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Allamiro (talkcontribs) 22:39, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi I haven’t undone all of your changes but I did undo your insertion of a paragraph that has no sources at all. If you have sources for this material will you put them in please? Mccapra (talk) 22:47, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

User: Mccapra keeps reverting the pages for all the users who attempt to correct the page Egyptian to Turkish. Sources are already there. Mccapra always asking for sources for every word edited including the title . The Arabic page says Turkish and the English page says Egyptian. In addition to that all sources cited on both pages cite Turkish . Muhamed ali pasha though he lives in egypt was never egyptaian not an Egyptian born , doesn't even speak Arabic , no Egyptian relatives his main army wasn't based on Egyptian, his appointment are from ottomans .. I m not sure what we need to prove here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Allamiro (talkcontribs) 19:43, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

I recently came across a couple of article creations by User talk:PutraOsakaTokyo. They have created several articles related to Malaysian politicians; however none of the added sources has mentioned subjects' name. As far as i can understand, either the user is unaware of citing pages or they provide misleading sources. Please see User talk:PutraOsakaTokyo#Recent page creation. Thank you. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 08:29, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. The last one of these I patrolled I did wonder whether I’d paid enough attention to the sources which looked superficially impressive. I’ve gone back through my patrol log and unpatrolled the ones I can find. I think the patrol logging system is a bit flaky and it doesn’t capture all the reviews. I’m sure there are 4 or 5 more if I can go back and find them. Please unreview any you come across. All the best Mccapra (talk) 08:45, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

History of rugby union matches between Scotland and United States moved to draftspace

I am confused why the History of rugby union matches between Scotland and United States was moved to draftspace because NONE of the other pages have sources, it is formatted the same exact way as the others. I linked the matches I could to the specific event as they occurred.

Hi you may well be right but I’m patrolling new pages, not all pages on related topics. Some older pages have got away with not being sourced, but new pages can’t. We are steadily upping the sourcing requirements all the time. If you can add sources I’ll bring it back into mainspace. All the best Mccapra (talk) 19:43, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

move from draftspace

Hi Mccapra, As Mohammad Al-Hasan Al-Dido moved to draftspace , now I've added more reliable, and independent sources. And I've expanded the article . Please have a look, and move it to be an article . Many thanks . --Imad_J (talk) 08:43, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

OK thanks I'll take a look at the sources later today. Mccapra (talk) 10:56, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi, @Mccapra: Did you have time to check it ? ---Imad_J (talk) 19:33, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
I’m sorry I completely forgot about it. I’ll look in the morning. Mccapra (talk) 19:47, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
@عماد الدين المقدسي: Ok I’ve looked again and here’s what I think. Sources 10-16 simply verify his authorship. They’re fine but they don’t support notability. For a person to be notable we need things said about them by other people, independently. So ideally we want reviews of the books he wrote in major publications for example. It’s common to have to source details of a subject’s early life to interviews, but overall I’m still not seeing a lot of independent people (not associates and colleagues) talking about him. A good thing to find for example would be an official source or newspaper article showing that he is the president of a university. There’s no source for that at all at the moment and that would make the article much stronger. The best sources you have here are Al-Istiqlal and Al Jazeera. I’m not sure about Taganet. Anyway I think don’t spend any more time linking to Islamic religious websites because they won’t help prove notability. Anything else you can find in major news outlets will be helpful. I think it’s not quite there yet. Good luck. Mccapra (talk) 11:24, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
@Mccapra: Thanks you, I've added many notable references from Al Jazeera and others, 3 references that he's the president of a university ^_^ . And I found that he was the Vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars. I hope this is enough.--Imad_J (talk) 17:49, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for working on this. I’ve moved it into mainspace now. All the best Mccapra (talk) 18:00, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Please do not create hoaxes on Wikipedia, as you did at Aloke Singh Promoter. Doing so is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Your concerns with 'Belgian 9th Infantry Division

Hello, @Mccapra:. I think i can address some of your concerns. The article is not based on primary sources, but in fact gives a shortened account of the histories compiled by the website in the references. That site could be seen as a disinterested, objective secondary source (purpose is to give an day-to-day account of each unit's history, without the need to qualify or take sides - after all, the war is over for more than 70 years now).

In this sense, it also does not qualify as original research. As it is a summary of existing historiography, based on records which can be verified. Epicurus BE (talk) 13:48, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your note. I see what you mean. I’ll take those tags off the article but I’m going to add a new one because the article still relies on a single source. If you can find any other sources that will be great. By the way, on talk pages it’s usual to post new messages at the bottom, but don’t worry about that. All the best Mccapra (talk) 16:04, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Mccapra:, thanks i'll take note of that in the future. The sources can indeed be diversified. As i continue with this project, i'll take more time to delve in the academic sources on which that single source is based. Note also that (when applicable) i'll extend this for World War One and Post-WWII. Then there will be more sources. Best! Epicurus BE (talk) 18:14, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Great good luck with it! Mccapra (talk) 18:38, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Howard Handler Article

HI @Mccapra! You provided some feedback on a page I created for Howard Handler (link below), and I submitted for review and have been waiting for a little while. Would you be willing to take a look and see if it is ready to be made an article? Thanks so much!

Draft: Howard Handler

Bippity4414 (talk) 20:10, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi yes I’ve looked at it just now. I see you’ve added more refs to verify details of the bio. Reading it again I see the subject has had a successful career but I’m not sure that he meets our notability requirements. Have you looked at WP:ANYBIO? How do you think Mr Handler meets this standard? Mccapra (talk) 20:22, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi I’ve put it up for speedy deletion. Don’t worry about it. There are Wikipedians who check for double redirects and clean up so somebody will come along and sort it out. All the best. Mccapra (talk) 18:11, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Please move her back to article space asap. Can you next time please simply request references, when a historic woman is clearly notable? Our readers are not well served by a link to a redirect page to draft with a "should be deleted" tag. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:51, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Gerda Arendt: thank you for adding further sources. I’ve tried to move the draft back to mainspace but as the old article title has not been deleted, I can’t do that yet. Once the deletion has taken place I’m happy to move it back. I’m afraid that without the sourcing added today, the subject was not ‘clearly notable’, at least to me. All the best Mccapra (talk) 18:53, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Ok I see someone else has just done it. Mccapra (talk) 19:27, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Fine. I'm not a new pages reviewer, but sometimes think they just count references. If I was one, I'd be inclined to think a subject was notable when she has an article in a different Wikipedia, authority control links, and links within the English Wikipedia. Yes, other referencing systems are different, but I'd just request additional references, especially for a subject from history, without any danger to have something wrong in a BLP. In her case, the "Further reading" pdf referenced substantial parts of the facts, just not inline. The rest was rather easy. I'll get to the last external links and get more details from there, and then send her to DYK. The detour via draft seems a waste of time, and what happens to a reader, clicking on a blue link and finding a redirect to draft, could be annoying. Please no detour next time when LouisAlain is the author ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Gerda thanks for your note. I understand what you are saying. However on your point about how our readers are best served, I think they are best served by article creators putting proper sources into their articles. If you’re asking me to assume that all future articles by a particular editor are notable by default, that’s not going to happen. It did not take long for you to add sources today, and there’s no reason why article creators should expect to avoid giving themselves the trouble of an extra hour or so to put their own sources in by rather than expecting others to do it for them afterwards. I don’t create poorly-sourced new articles in mainspace myself and don’t really understand why some others do. If they do, it’s possible that a reviewer lacking their subject knowledge or the urge to try and piece together the case for notability will just put the work back on them. I appreciate all the work you’ve put into this and I’m glad to see it back in mainspace without undue delay. All the best Mccapra (talk) 19:59, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
You misunderstood me, though. I gave three indicators of notability. What do you think about those? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:09, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Gerda I really don’t want to have an argument with you. I think I acted reasonably in moving the page to draft, and you think I was wasting time. Thanks to your work the article is back in mainspace and I suggest we leave it at that. Mccapra (talk) 20:17, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
I'm disappointed to hear that you don't want to tell me if my view, that an article in a different language, authority control, and links in the English Wikipedia might indicate notability, makes any sense to you. I dealt with too many articles sent to draft and then rescued to appear on the main page, for my taste. Peace. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
I would like to concur with Gerda that if someone is notable enough to have a wikipedia article of long standing in language X, eo ipso they are notable enough for an article in another language. The net effect of raising the transaction cost of starting new articles is that fewer will get made. Tibetologist (talk) 08:53, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for the support, but not exactly my point. LouisAlain keeps producing several translations each day, obvioously rather undisturbed by the drafting. My point is that in Draft space, such incomplete products have less chances to be improved (because not seen by editors) than in article space with simple tags "citation required", preferably at specific facts, not big but unspecific at the top. I just worked against such tags for Mascha Kaléko on her google doodle day. I'd go further, but real life is calling. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:06, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

She's on the Main page now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Re: Chongqing–Wanzhou high-speed railway

Hello, I saw you've changed a page I created to draft. I am not sure what level of referencing you're looking for, when Wikipedia covers many Chinese railways with barely any references. I think everything in the article is sourced already. Also worth adding there is a Chinese article at zh:渝万高速铁路 though I forgot to add the interwiki link when creating it. Could you clarify for me please? Thanks NemesisAT (talk) 14:57, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. I sent the article to draft because it only had two sources, both of which looked to me like announcements based on press releases rather than independent journalism. One of the sources, 3G.163 did not look reliable to me. For an established railway two sources might be sufficient, but for a construction project we need something more solid and reliable than this to be sure that Wikipedia is not being used for the purposes of commercial promotion. With sufficient reliable sources it can come back into mainspace. All the best Mccapra (talk) 19:29, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for your response, I did have a look already but haven't been able to find any more good sources. Could an alternative be merging the page with Chongqing–Wanzhou intercity railway until more information comes available? They both have the same terminii. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 21:20, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

May I ask why you bothered to move this to draft space? It's, well, garbage for lack of a better word. There's no value in draftifying stuff that is patently unencyclopedic, unless I am missing something? Praxidicae (talk) 22:00, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Saves me the bother of hunting for sources to take it to AfD frankly. Mccapra (talk) 22:11, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
I’d rather the article creator ran around searching for sources than you/me/anyone else. Mccapra (talk) 22:12, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
That doesn't seem like the best reason to draftify it. Why not let the CSD get it deleted? Praxidicae (talk) 22:24, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
You’re not wrong. Mccapra (talk) 22:40, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
@Praxidicae: I just looked at this again for some reason and realised what happened. You sent it to CSD and I sent it to draft almost simultaneously. It didn’t have the CSD notice on it when I hit ‘move to draft’ - that must have appeared a second or so after I began draftifying it. If there had been a CSD template on it I would have left it alone. Mccapra (talk) 14:15, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Ismail Sirri Pasha

Hello. You recently added a

to the Ismail Sirri Pasha page I created. I'm working to create entries for cabinet ministers in Egypt, and for most of them there's not much material available in English. Obviously the page is thin--that's why it's in Category:Egyptian_politician_stubs. I always cite primary sources, such as the major bibliographic dictionary of Al-Zirikli. In this case I linked to four different sources. Please avoid reflexive use of refimprove. Unless you have read the primary sources I've linked to, don't claim that the page needs verification. Thanks for your work. Will Hanley (talk) 23:39, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your note. Great project to create articles for cabinet ministers. To establish notability we look for secondary rather than primary sources. Works by the article subject don’t help, so at the moment the article has one ref and one external link. So it does indeed need further sources. Mccapra (talk) 07:03, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Moving pages

Hi there. First, thanks for all you do on WP, especially over at NPP. Why don't you request WP:PAGEMOVER status? That way when you move a page, especially to draft, you can select to not leave a redirect behind. That way you wouldn't have to do all those deletion requests. Just a thought.Onel5969 TT me 22:59, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. I wouldn’t want a tool I can’t competently use and tbh I’m struggling to understand the Page Mover project page. If I’m sure I’m got my head around it, I’ll apply. Thanks for the suggestion. Mccapra (talk) 23:10, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
No worries. From the outside looking in, it looked like you have a grasp, so I thought I'd suggest it.Onel5969 TT me 00:17, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Renk

Hi, I saw you draftified Draft:Renk yesterday. I have since expanded the article and added sources which I believe sufficiently establish notability and make the article mainspace-ready. I'd appreciate if you could take a look and see whether you agree. Thanks. BegbertBiggs (talk) 13:26, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi I agree the draft can be moved back into mainspace. Unfortunately the article title ‘Renk’ is being used for a redirect. I’ve asked to have that deleted and once it’s free I can move your article back. Mccapra (talk) 13:41, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Page mover granted

Hello, Mccapra. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Could you possibly look at Tumurun Private Museum?

Hi Mccapra,
@Mccapra, John B123, Arynaa06, and Seraphimblade: Could you possibly revisit this article? It has been tagged for speedy deletion under the WP:G11 speedy deletion criterion, and I would appreciate your opinions about this.
As an English language Wikipedia administrator who quite often deals with speedy deletion requests and articles translated from other Wikipedias, my first thought was to decline the speedy deletion, as the article isn't "exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopedia article", but I am obviously biased when it comes to quirky art galleries: see The Museum of Everything (museum) and Museum of Old and New Art.
On second thoughts, I have decided to move it into "Draftspace"<to avoid outright speedy deletion of what appears to have - according the Jakarta Post - "about a hundred works of modern and contemporary art"
--Shirt58 (talk) 12:25, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:05, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

@Shirt58: I agree it should not be speedy deleted. It’s not well-written and could do with some more tidying up but I think it’s just amateurish writing rather than intended promotion. Mccapra (talk) 10:14, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
Oh crumbs. So now we now have Tumurun Private Museum in articlespace and Draft:Tumurun Private Museum in draftspace.--Shirt58 (talk) 12:25, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
The draft version is more primitive so I suggest we get the existing draft deleted, then move the current article into draft space for more work. Mccapra (talk) 12:36, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
I've got no objection to the article being improved rather than deleted. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 15:57, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you. About 90% of the time, when an editor airily claims at AfD that s/he's surely going to make the necessary fixes to an article, it's a bunch of hot air. You really did mean it, and to impressive effect. Well done. Ravenswing 20:59, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Please un-review this - it has all sorts of problems, being some sort of version of an earlier article which she has somehow managed to make disappear from the history. Johnbod (talk) 15:15, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

@Johnbod: Hi I don’t mind at all if you want to unreview it yourself - go ahead. Having looked at again it’s not clear to me what the ‘all sorts of problems’ are that can’t be addressed through normal editing. All the best. Mccapra (talk) 19:27, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Human Fountains

Thanks for reviewing my article on the Human Fountains! In my talk page, you mention that the article needs more citations from reliable independent sources. I have included 18 sources in the article describing the group, so it would be really helpful to understand which sources are considered unreliable, and what information, as written, is not properly sourced. Just looking for a little more detail! Thanks again for your help. Looking forward to making this page reliable and conforming to proper wiki guidelines. Danoz73 (talk) 03:23, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi please take a look at WP:RS. Reviewing this article I was concerned with whether the topic was notable, ie. whether there was extensive coverage in reliable independent sources. Most of the sources in the article at the moment are self-published (YouTube, social media, Eventbrite). What the article needs is more reviews and commentary from independent critics. Good luck with your work on it. All the best Mccapra (talk) 05:43, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

DGG ( talk ) 02:54, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

@DGG: I agree, it does. However the article creator appears to have abandoned it. There’s no suggestion this is a hoax or some weird POV agenda, just a not very well-written start about a real historic state. The sourcing provided satisfied me that there is a valid topic, and if the article went to AfD it would be very likely to be kept. It seemed to me therefore that we were in the area of “can be improved by normal editing”, so I passed it. Mccapra (talk) 03:11, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
I recognize the dilemma here. The problem is the only practical way to get it improved would be to send it to AfD, and if I did people would complain that I hadn't tried to source it myself. Our normal processes for improving articles broke down long ago, if they ever worked, but perhaps I'm just feeling pessimistic these days. DGG ( talk ) 06:10, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Talk pages

Hi, Thanks for your adding talk pages to articles like Wesel I. When you do this, if you could have a quick look at the page and add a rating, it helps to alleviate the huge backlogs at WikiProjects like the Elections and Referendums project. It's usually fairly clear what sort of state an article is in, but if you're not sure, you can leave it to one of the project's assessors. Thanks and keep up the good work, Gazamp (talk) 11:36, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. I’ve actually never rated an article ever, and don’t know the criteria, but I’ll take a look at it. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 11:57, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

ChrisMat2020 (talk) 17:34, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@ChrisMat2020: Hi I’ve taken a look at the draft and honestly I’m not sure he is notable. Better sources are needed. Ref 1 isn’t opening for me. Refs 2 and 5 have to come out because you can’t use Wikipedia as a source on Wikipedia. 3 is just a directory, apparently. 9. is trivial detail that doesn’t support notability, so it’s looking a bit thin. Mccapra (talk) 18:11, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Is Samuel Urkato an orphan?

Hello Mccapra, I don't know why you added the an orphan tag to this page since it is not orphan. Please review it. - Yitbe A-21 08:18, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for you message. I’ve checked and yes it is an orphan, which means no other article links to it. One possible thing to do would be go to the article Sodo, add a new section for “Notable people” and list Samuel Urkato there. Another possibility is that his name is on a cabinet list somewhere and that article could be linked to this one. Mccapra (talk) 08:26, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Mccapra! I will do it. - Yitbe A-21 08:30, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Could you review it now, please. - Yitbe A-21 08:49, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi I've removed the orphan tag. Some of your links may not survive long and may be reverted by other editors. The one from Sodo will be fine, but the university ones may not last. Some universities have lists of alumni and you can add people to them, but having a single individual identified as a notable person on the main page of a university article is not usual. Anyway, the next time you create an article you'll know how to avoid the orphan tag. All the best Mccapra (talk) 08:53, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Mccapra,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Incomprehensible tag

Hi there! I am new to Wikipedia so forgive me if this is the wrong platform to engage. I noticed that you assigned an "incomprehensible" tag to my page, attributions for poverty. Can you please provide some constructive feedback so that I can improve the page? Thanks! Ibbrody (talk) 17:59, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@Ibbrody: Hi thanks for your message. One of the purposes of Wikipedia is to try and help people understand difficult and unfamiliar topics so it is important to use the simplest and plainest English possible. The prose in your article us very dense and it reads like a university essay rather than an encyclopaedia article. So for example instead of:
  • ”Attributions for poverty depict individuals' perceptions for the causes of poverty. This understanding builds on attribution theory, which is a social psychological perspective on how people make causal explanations about events in the world.”

I’d suggest:

  • ” Attributions for poverty is concerned with what people believe about the causes of poverty. These beliefs are defined in terms of attribution theory.”

Keep sentences short; use links to other articles to avoid the need to explain specific terms. Imagine you are explaining the topic to an elderly relative and just use the simplest language you can. Good luck!Mccapra (talk) 18:19, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@Mccapra: I understand. I will update the article with simpler language. Thank you for your suggestion and feedback! Ibbrody (talk) 18:23, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Podcasts

Thank you for the kitten on my article, and I do have a teensy question. I'm seeing more and more articles using podcasts as sources. I don't see any specific info in the guidelines, but my gut feel is that podcasts fall into the "promotional" or "self-published" category and so they can be used but will not count as reliable. Does this sound right? TIA thanks in advance! Tennis Anyone?Talk 00:11, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

@10Sne1: hi I’m also not sure we have any specific guidelines on podcasts. I think the same principles apply as to any other type of source. Podcasts are usually interview or discussion, not authoritative statements about a topic, so generally they’d rank like other interviews, as unreliable sources. Mccapra (talk) 22:19, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Monteiro (surname)

I've replaced the references on Monteiro (surname) with a book Dictionary of the Portuguese and English Languages. It was published in 1813, so I'm not sure it's any more reliable. I've left the unreliable sources tag in place since I don't think that I should make that decision. Leschnei (talk) 14:45, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi yes that’s fine and I’ll remove the tag now. It was ancestry.com that I had concerns about as a source. All the best Mccapra (talk) 14:57, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing all the plant articles I created. Starzoner (talk) 18:05, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Mccapra: you added the {{Notability}} tag to Hometown Movement. I removed the tag because I thought the tag was inappropriate. This article is about a political movement. Resources on the article:

Ornek11222talk 07:42, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

@Ornek11222: hi yes those sources verify that there is a Hometown Movement but that’s not the question. Wikipedia does not have articles about every political party because many of them are unimportant - marginal, fringe movements that never contest elections or only collect very small percentages of the vote. The sourcing in the article at the moment shows that the party exists, but does not show that it is important. If you can find sources that discuss the party in depth and are not just statements about its founding, then notability will be demonstrated. Please see WP:ORG. Mccapra (talk) 08:21, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi Mccapra -- I declined this deletion request because broadcast radio/television shows are not eligible for A7 (although web-delivered content is). Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 06:38, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

ok thanks for letting me know. Mccapra (talk) 06:43, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Sallow

Hi, Mccapra, you recently draftified an article I wrote on the color sallow, stating that it did not appear to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. I am not sure I understand... We have articles on hundreds of different colors, and the color "sallow", used to describe the color of skin, has been in use in English for a very long time. I provided references to attest to this fact. If you feel the article's subject is not notable, please nominate it for deletion, but the condition of the article is not a determinant of the subject's notability. Placing it in draft space is asking it to be put to a slow death, which doesn't benefit anyone. I firmly believe the subject is notable as a color, and if you conduct even a brief search of the subject I think you will find that I am correct in this! Please reconsider your decision to put the article in draft space and return it to the mainspace. Thanks! A loose necktie (talk) 09:08, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

@A loose necktie: hi thanks for your message. I agree that the note I left isn't as clear as it could be. The topic 'sallow' is very likely to be notable (although I'm not sure it is actually a colour). The key issue at the moment is the sourcing. As the message I left says "It is not clear whether this topic is notable in Wikipedia terms, but it may be, if adequate sourcing demonstrates it. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources." At the moment the article does not have reliable independent sources, and it is quite unlike the other colour articles we have. Instead of being an encyclopaedic description of the term 'sallow' and its uses, the article provides a medical diagnosis, which we are not supposed to do on Wikipedia, and it is supported by references to makeup advice pages and healthline. Some rewriting is needed to bring it into line with similar colour pages on the encyclopedia, and it needs sources os a similar type to those used in other colour articles. It is currently in draft space so that this work can be done. All the best Mccapra (talk) 15:24, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
Notice

The article Apradhi Kaun? (1957 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable film, nothing found in a WP:BEFORE to help it pass WP:NFILM.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. @Donaldd23: hi for some reason this notification has come to me rather than to the article creator. I just tagged it for notability, I didn’t create it. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 12:17, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

This article is referenced. Why do you mark it as "needs citations"? Robert Kerber (talk) 11:44, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi because there are only two, and more are generally required for a film article. Mccapra (talk) 11:46, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
I disagree here, esp. as the two sources given are by reliable film historians. What is the "required number" then, and where is this stated on WP? Please be more specific if there is data you regard as unreferenced. Thank you.Robert Kerber (talk) 11:50, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
