Speedily Delete for UsedEverywhere
Hi there, I was wondering why you wanted to delete the page I created? You said that it isn't notable? Why is Craigslist notable? Why is Kijiji notable? The partnership is the first of its kind. It could raise a lot of money for the Nature Conservancy of Canada and spur additional similar partnerships. It does sound like a bad joke
I was listening to NPR and they had a guy from Slate talking about false confessions, which led me to false memories. We can joke about it, but people spent hard time in jail over the ridiculous theory. It would be a good name for a bad band.

Mike Bloomberg
I welcome the disclosure that you are from UniteForMike. I was wondering that myself last night when I saw that a Michael White who lives in Massachusetts was listed on the About page of UniteForMike. I checked for possible bias by looking at your Bloomberg edits and did not see cause for concern. That said, I want you to take a look at an issue on the Bloomberg page. I removed references to Bloomberg being a fiscal conservative. On the talk page I sourced this to the Club for Growth and also the New York Times. The editor ILikeBloomberg reinserted these references. In response, I inserted fact tags on all the references since none of it is sourced. My position is that Bloomberg claims to be a fiscal conservative, but in reality this is not true. I would like if you could look at the evidence for claims that Bloomberg is a fiscal conservative and decide for yourself. ILikeBloomberg is a biased editor and will not consider this on the evidence. Ultimately, I would like claims of being a fiscal conservative qualified by evidence and criticism, or removed altogether.Jmegill (talk) 16:11, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Bloomberg sources
I could be wrong, but the ancestry site looks like a personal website, which are usually not supposed to be used (see WP:Reliable sources). But either way, it lists three of his grandparents as having been born in Russia and the other in the US, so it doesn't support the statement I removed anyway. Encyclopædia Britannica states that Bloomberg's father was a Polish immigrant, but evidently he wasn't and the Wikipedia article states so, so I don't know what Britannica is referencing then? Your statement "when census records list a Jew from Russia, it is almost always actually Poland" may or may not be true, but what does it have to do with Michael Bloomberg? If I suppose it's possible that Bloomberg has Polish Jewish ancestors, but a reliable reference that states exactly that should be used to back it up (see Wikipedia:No original research). Genealogy
I have removed yoru addition about the commonality of royal descent. Unless, and until, you can fully substantiate that, please don't re-add that. It's common to see such genealogies as products of poor scholarship and lazy research, and such lineages get hyped because of a supposed royal connection, but that is all a result of a magnified problem, not an actual circumstance. - It may be a goal, but 'statistical' averagings aren't the same as actual lineages. Second, note that you'd likely have to be a proven relative, per your sources, of a monarch before 1600, and since records for most people don't start till after that era, it becomes impossible to prove. Do some lineages exist? yes. note also that your article makes note of all the pretenders. Those are legion. I can't count the number of shoddily researched trees that tie back to a few royals, then right back to even more spurious things as the bible. I've seen way too many trees go back to adam and eve. Every such tree, when you ask those who actually understand genealogy as a 'science', and not a religious imperative, dismiss such trees out of hand as the work of fabulists. As to motivation to find such connections, that's welcome in the article with citation, but such an overarching statement's inherently hard to support. This article does need cleanup, so I welcome any efforts you make, but we need to make it better, not just bigger. ThuranX (talk) 01:03, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
- Searching for notable kin is certainly worth noting, but I really tire of the hypothetical, and mythical 'royal ancestor' noise. 10,000 Americans with a royal ancestor, by those colonial numbers you gave, are hardly any majority of anything. Any immigrant from Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Belgium and so on, all the northern and western european countries which aren't England, don't have that demonstrable heritage in most cases. They may have some Nobility in their ancestry, but royalty comes far less often, so you'd again be talking about a very narrow view of things, one that we're trying to avoid on many articles, esp. that one, which already has had globalize tags numerous times. I am aware that there are numerous articles about finding your connection to royalty, but many of them aren't good as far as scholarship goes; one in one of the biggest newsstand genealogy magazines, abotu 3 years back, actually advocated fudging spellings and birthdates to approximate dates to find matches, when it's clear that by fudging data, you'd be shoehorning it in. And if you look at any of the major websites, like ancestry, rootsweb, or familysearch, where you can browse trees, the overlap of such 'royalty trees' with 'biblical ancestry trees' is tremendous, and royal trees outside of the biblical are few and far between, and never seem to list all those 'distant relations'. If I had to, I'm sure I could find a number of good research articles from the various scholarship oriented societies refuting the popular view, esp. as relates to the wider American population. I simply think that perpetuating a bad idea that has a wide following based on ego, not fact, is a bad idea. ThuranX (talk) 01:50, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Son of Genealogy
I'm in agreement with you on a lot of the nominations; there are a lot of articles about Princess Bertha of Bosnia and other "royalty", and needless to say, the Presidents of the United States are our version of royalty. Where I stand on it is that the parent (mother or father, or stepmother or stepdad) of an American president is inherently notable, simply because they shaped the values of a person who later became, not just a president, but "the President". As to a great-great-grandfather, the test might be "would this person have been considered notable if Wikipedia had existed in the 19th century"? James Bush might (everyone seems to have 15 minutes of fame on Wikipedia); on the other hand, Obadiah doesn't seem to have been any different than any other grizzled old prospector.
I see that someone got pissed off that you wrote that royal ancestry was common, but I think you're right. I don't know, it's like every other president is a descendant of King Edward III. There was one guy in England, whose name I read once and have never been able to find since, who was rather ordinary, but apparently a common ancestor of a 25 U.S. Presidents; that's one of the few occasions where I can say that a person would be notable because of his descendants.
Anyway, I think it's good that you ask the question about "did this person do anything notable in his or her own lifetime". There's no reason that genealogy freaks can't list all the ancestors in one article, rather than having each great-grandmother get her own separate page. Hi. With regards to your AfD nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Francis Lightfoot Lee II, I wanted to let you know for future reference that AfD is not really the step to take when you wish to merge an article, although merge is not uncommonly an outcome at AfD. The procedure for proposing merges (and following through with them) is set out at Help:Merge. Generally, if you propose a merge by that procedure and it is not contested, you can be bold and implement it within a few days. I have closed the AfD with a recorded decision to merge, but I note that the proper destination article is unsure. Please use Talk:Sully (Fairfax County, Virginia) to settle the issue of which article should receive this material. When the matter is determined, you can go ahead and merge it. If you have any concerns about the steps for doing this (they sound far more complicated than they are, but the first time I did one I was nervous about it!) you can let me know at my talk page or get help at the help desk. - Hi. :) It doesn't get deleted afterwards. The contents of the page are replaced with #REDIRECT [[destination article]] {{R from merge}}. This makes sure it hangs around for GFDL reasons. Hello Michael, listing birth and death places with the dates does not "clutter up the lead", it provides the most basic info for the person. Most encyclopedias in many different languages list these so. I know that the basic rule of Wikipedia favors your point of view, but this is one rule I choose to disregard, I have stated my opinion on the Wiki-guidelines page once... No need to apologize, I'm not offended. But, in my opinion (and I think I have read something similar in the wiki-guidelines), one should not edit an article just to move something from one place to another. Edit if you have something to add, and on such an occasion clean up something you think needs to be cleaned up. Otherwise you will waste a lot of time. That's a well written guideline essay, and I have followed this line in a general way in my New York politician bios. I have included even more distant relationships if the relative has an own article in Wikipedia (bluelinked). As to the re-adding of the subcription-required link, it had occurred to me as an afterthought (after deleting) that the mention of the actual source should be there, only the internet link is rather useless in that case. The Nickerson Family Association (NFA)
In regards for your "Article to be Deleted" tag on the NFA page, go ahead and axe it. I've modified the entry on the "Nickerson" disambiguation page to point directly to the NFA website instead of to an article. I think that should serve both our purposes - a reference remains for those who want to find out more about the organization (my beef) and keeping articles up to snuff concerning Wikipedia inclusion (your beef). As long as curious parties can see that the organization exists, what it entails and can get to the website, I'll be happy. - Well, the AfD result for Nickerson Family Association was keep, and the articles for deletion tag on the article was removed on June 22, so there is no reason to delete the article, and I can accept that maybe the organization has a degree of notability. Devens
I'm a little unsure about this then if that is the case. There is a page for the fort, village, and CDP. I want to keep the fort page separate per some other military things. I have never heard of Devens being called "Fort Devens" in reference to the village, so i'm thinking that we keep it but rename the CDP page as the CDP page is probably the most official thing from the government. - I agree with the spirit of your changes. Though I have heard Devens referred to as Fort Devens, I think it would probably be less confusing if the article about the CDP was named Devens. I would merge Devens, Massachusetts and Fort Devens (CDP), Massachusetts and have the latter redirect to the former. But whatever.--Michael WhiteT·C 21:56, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- I know on the Cape, there is an article for a town, then a CDP article for some of the towns. While this makes no sense, I'm trying to set up the articles so that they resemble that. Looking for Someones help
I am looking for someone who can help me hunt down an item that my mother had in her persesion from my father back in 1943. The item came from the base at Fort Devens and it looks like a wall hanging satin with fringe on it and it has seven building on it that look like they were buildings on the base. In the middle was a saying that said Sweetheart thinking of our days together and the things we say and do. Thinking of how very Happy I have been just loving you.A wish to you darling that will be yoou very best whispering "I Love you truly more than you have guessed!" I have several of these from different Bases in the United States and want to know if any one knew if this was a common thing that the soilders bought for there wifes and girl friends to send home when they were away. Just looking for the history of this item.

Looking for Wikipedia Ambassadors
Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Boston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at schools in Boston and Cambridge, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you live near Boston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.
If you're an experienced and active Wikipedian, you might be interested alternatively in becoming an Online Ambassador. The role of Online Ambassadors is to serve as mentors for students; it doesn't require any in-person outreach. Take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

Wikipedia is not a reliable source
Regarding James I. Roosevelt, you cannot cite a Wikipedia article to show the degree of relationship between James I. and James H, bceause Wikipedia is not considered to be a reliable source. "Cousins" is a familial relationship that covers a lot of ground, but "third cousin" is extremely specific and needs a citation from a reliable source. BMK (talk) 02:42, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

- I wasn't citing Wikipedia, I was providing a link to the Roosevelt family article so you could verify the relationship yourself using the information on that page and the universal definition of degrees of cousins. As far as I know, there doesn't have to be an external source that specifically says that they were third cousins if that fact can be deduced from other reliable sources given that there is only one definition of third cousins. Not every parent-child relationship is specifically cited in that article, but for the ones we are concerned with that make up this third-cousin relationship, they are all contained in at least one of the References under Further Reading. (Particularly "The Roosevelt Genealogy, 1649-1902".) If you are unwilling to take a few minutes to verify the relationship yourself, please assume good faith and at least accept the compromise of "distant cousin" (I think the wording is better anyway) or at least just add a [citation needed] (lack of citation is not a reason to remove not obviously invalid non-libelous information on a non-living person's biography). (It is also reasonable to assume that if, as likely, the "cousin" usage was initially copied verbatim from a secondary source, that that secondary source was using the sense of "cousin" as "any degree of cousin".) --Michael WhiteT·C 02:59, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
