I went on Thursday for the 1st two sessions but missed most of Gayle's slogathon due to another commitment. I did see lots of Aussie runs scored though and the argy-bargy between Benn and Haddin. I'd left just before Gayle's hit onto the roof of the Lillee-Marsh stand. I went again yesterday afternoon for the Tea session which was very slow. Am planning to see Gayle's T20 match for WA. screenwest

Firstly, thanks for tagging it up for improvement as part of a wikiproject- hopefully that gets some more editors working on it. and thanks for the link, ive bookmarked it.

in terms of importance - yes, it is very subjective.

Screenwest is the main source of film + television funding in western australia- i personally would rate that as more important than say an individual premier or a landmark (depends what landmark i suppose. def more important than say the belltower). Note that i only took it up to middle importance for australia, and high for wa. Ill ignore the australia wide context for now, but no way its the lowest possible category of importance for WA. you are correct that the screenwest article doesn't currently show notability as well as it could- i created the page like 2 days ago + i tagged it as a stub, i'll get around to working on it when i can (the west australian screen awards and film and television institute articles also need work + i've got a job application to do that im currently trying to avoid) --Brunk500 (talk) 13:20, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

like you can see, i've only bumped up the importance one step from low to mid for WA, and haven touched importance to australia, as a compromise given oour difference of opinion. given that one of the premiers in the high category was only in the job for 3 months i think its a fair call :) --Brunk500 (talk) 14:11, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

re: screenwest only existing for 10 years- before that it was called the West Australian Film Corporation- which i've now noted on the article. like i said, work in progress. Thanks for the advice, I guess I've been a bit careless there. The fact that Australia uses the same symbole then the US for our Dollar is a bit of a pain, especially when dealing with subjects that connect to both countries, like Australian mines owned by US companies! Hard to figure out at times which Dollar they are talking about and painful to have to disambiguate it in an article! Anyway, I will try to improve and be more careful! I've gone through and fixed most of my mistakes, I do the rest bit by bit. If you got time, could you have a quick look at another Western Australian DYK nomination of mine, for Golden Grove Mine? It would, as always, be much appreciated. Its a somewhat interessting and political one:
that the sale of the Golden Grove Mine and other assets, worth US$1.354 billion, from OZ Minerals to China Minmetals was only approved by the Australian Government after the Prominent Hill Mine was excluded from the deal?

Hello, Moondyne. I stumbled across File:Harry Boyle.jpg and noticed it has no source information. It is tagged as being in the public domain with a tag that claims the photographer died over 100 years ago, but there is no way to verify this claim. Youngest

Nice job! I think it is much more readable than the plain-text version I made. What are you not so sure about?

Below are a couple thoughts I might suggest (but I'm not sure they'd work out until I tried)

  1. Put everything into the table, including the title and references, so that it is totally self-contained. I picture it included at the very bottom, just above the categories. (For example check the entry for M. Ward at the bottom of the page) Maybe nested tables?
  2. I would make the initial sort order by date of journey. That also gives a nice progression from solo to solo-nonstop.
  3. Put departure and return dates in the same column, two lines in each cell (lost ability to sort?).

Maybe I can try more later, but I'll recommend that you replace the current template:Youngest circumnavigator with what you have done and we can refine it from there. I corrected one date, otherwise it looks great. Nice job! As to your original concern of it not being official, my opinion is that doesn't change the fact that it is real. These may not be recognized by any official organization, but they are still sailing records. These are real journeys by real people that are newsworthy and noteworthy and thus valid Wikipedia entries. Pop down to the WACA nets?

Unfortunately, SACA's contractors wouldn't let me within 40 metres this year, so no photos of Pak. Pretty ridiculous, given that they don't bother checking for weapons or any of that thing, and the guards are unarmed. And in any case, teh guard was pretty portly and even a guy who runs 100m in 15s like me could dodge them. Hello. I found Fforde, Green and Hasluck and managed to account for almost all of it except maybe 5% and you could just chop some of it if it isn't important. The old 2005/06 are coming to the front of the queue and Canberra has fallen in the pit with Australia and History of the ACT. Hopefully the remainder of Yagan can be dealt with easily; I've been trying to renovate the old FAs with varying success. That is incorrect. All the compromises I made happened before your warning. See the history section. I made 6 large compromises - the final edit which was very similar to what is there now. There was large consensus from knowledgeable sailors. I suspect you didn't even read the edits I made. I took out large sections you disagreed with and asked you specifically if you wanted more taken out. Yet you warn me for edit warring and get a mate to bar. I plainly made major compromises, you simply reverted.
I am now out of here. Shall not participate again when people abuse power like this. Thoroughly disillusioned. Lady Elizabeth work

Hello- I saw that you deleted the flags I had installed for the Lady Elizabeth (1879) article. Although I am new at this and respect your changes, I was wondering if their is a rule stating "excess use of flags" and if not, why are the changes made. WP:MOSFLAG. I have no problem with a flag showing the ensign but fail to see the importance of Port(s) of registry such that they have flags also. AFAIK the ship never sailed under the Norwegian or Isle of Man flags, so why give it such prominence? "Icons should not be added only because they look good, because aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder: one reader's harmless decoration may be another reader's distraction. Icons may be purely decorative in the technical sense that they convey no additional useful information and nothing happens when you click on them; but purely decorative icons should still have a useful purpose in providing navigational or layout cues outside of article prose. Avoid adding icons that provide neither additional useful information relevant to the article subject nor navigational or layout cues that aid the reader. Icons should serve an encyclopaedic purpose other than decoration." Clicking on some random ship articles shows widespread use of flagicons in port of registry, so I'm probably fighting a losing battle. G'day Joe, not sure if I'm the only one using it, but I regularly use(d) the Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Articles list with the "related changes" tool to see what's being edited - saves having a huge watchlist. Hi there. The editors who created the Codewit articles obviously also created this redirect. The title of the redirect page is found in one of the created articles, in the "Career and Activism" section, in the 2nd paragraph. Here is fine, and thanks for asking and opening the discussion. I think a template titled "Australian criminals" is fine as an indexing aid for categories and major topical articles etc, but to plonk it on an article about a living person (per WP:BLP) is a bit unfair, especially when the person has paid his dues and for all appearances has moved on. Ask yourself how you'd feel finding such a banner on a biographical article about yourself. Bond was plenty notable long before issues of criminality arose and the majority of the article correctly reflects that. Refer WP:DONOHARM and perhaps explain to me how the template improves the article. (I'm sounding like I'm a fan or defending him which I'm not, for the record) –Moondyne 13:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I agree that edits should not tar people as criminals for life - which is why I did this at Rodney Adler. But at some point, if one is going to have a template (such as "Australian criminals"), one should probably put it on all the pages to which its content is linked. Otherwise, one ends up with an arbitrary or contentious decision to be made about who should get it and who doesn't. Bond's criminal conviction probably rates as the most high-profile Australian white collar crime conviction of an individual in at least my lifetime, (though I recognise there area a few other contenders!) I understand the issues you raise, but i also don't see harm in the template that would not already caused by documenting the conviction in the text itself (which is the case) - and no-one would suggest that WP:BLP should preclude that. To the extent that the template helps readers to place Bond in a broader context of Australian crime, it does no harm, it benefits the encyclopedia. Would I like it if it were on my page? No, but I'm still inclined to think it is the better policy. Either that or dismantle the template altogether from all pages... hamiltonstone (talk) 22:26, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

The editing was the easy bit. The preceeding 2 weeks was spent prepping several offline lists as well as doing some low-hanging fruit with AWB and manually. I crossrefed with other article categories such as Cat:Test cricketers etc. and used WikiDatabaseScanner to check article sizes and keywords. And I visually scanned hundreds of articles also. I went for that edit because it is the most neutral text. I mentioned also that I had gone for a 3rd opinion on the issue and requested protection.

Meanwhile, you've essentially locked in something that is wholly inconsistent with every other school page on the site. Why? I was going on advice given in my unblock messages where it was suggested that the better way to have gone about the situation was to go to 3O and to ask for protection. The text that AussieLegend advocates is controversial in the dispute, therefore I removed it. That makes it more neutral. How does this detract from Wikipedia in the short term while the dispute is resolved (not that it will ever be resolved anyway)?

Mac Robertson GHS

That's not their logo, so I undid your change at [[9]]. The logo that that edit was relying on belongs to Melbourne High School. Mac Robertson GHS uses two, one is Athena's (?) bust, and the other is a stylised M surrounding GHS. Take a look at their website [[10]].

I tried looking earlier for a clean version of their logo and couldn't find one. I have some documents from the school, so I might try to pull a fair use logo from one or another of them. -Danjel (talk) 15:21, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

I strongly doubt the notability of the two people in the key_people section on Xavier College. See my reply here: Talk:Xavier_College#Key-people_2. I think it should stay commented out until some significance is demonstrated.

You and I both know of examples where vandalism has stuck around for ages before being found and edited out. The same is even more true of uncited or erroneous material.
There's no information, anywhere, on any of these individuals. At the very least they're not citable. If the Xavier website doesn't even mention them, then they're not significant, and not notable.

I was and am unequivocably in the right this time, and I've even, just now, come up with a compromise with a more reasonable editor on the other side that seems acceptable. Wikipedia:WikiProject Education in Australia/Guideline

Hi Moondyne. Australian school articles are some of the most difficult to keep track of. At WP:WPSCH the replacement for AlertBot is now up and running with the school project as one of the prototypes. Over the past eeks the WP:WPSCH pages have been re formatted and tidied up, especially some aspects being split off into sub pages because the main page was getting too long. Do please take a moment to check it out, and you may find that you can avoid some unnecessary duplication. I also think it would be a very good idea to place plenty of links to WP:WPSCH especialy, WP:WPSCH/AG which we've smartened up and made more readable. Do check out also the use of school infoboxes which has been standardised for quite a long time to make it easier for page creators and the regulars at the school project. Also, you might wish to consider placing the generic Australia project template on the talk pages of Australian schools.
My speciality is not Oz schools per se, but don't hesitate to contact me if you feel the available fields on the two Australian boxes do not address today's needs - these are fixes that can easily be made. There is going to be a major campaign to clean up school articles during 2011, if you are not already a member of the Schools project, do consider joining and seeing where you can help. Thanks. User:Danjel and myself have started a cleanup on the Australian school articles which included moving any that weren't there already to {{infobox school}}. That had been proposed numerous times in the past but it seems that no-one had gotten around to doing it. That's now complete and the 2 now-unused AU infoboxes are currently at TfD. We also removed some superfluous infobox data and so most of the 1100 odd articles have had at least a light going over. In the course of doing that I haven't seen any additional fields needed, but think that an effort could be made to identify little used fields or fields of dubious encyclopaedic value, and perhaps look to removing these - WP:DISINFOBOX comes to mind. I'd be very cautious about adding any new fields! The major problem I see is that with the infobox covering so many issues and so easy to use its nearly a disincentive for an editor to add prose. I regret I must decline your offer to join as I'm spreading myself a bit thinly now and am unlikely to maintain more than a passing interest. Good luck! –Moondyne 06:52, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Moondyne,

Let me take you back 2 years, and test your memory. I've just added a proper infobox to W McEwan (for which you did a lot of clean-up/referencing in December 2008! There is some discrepancy between what is there, and what is referenced (to CA). The original article had a full date-of-death, (and place of death as Nice, and I think you added the reference to CA (which confirms the year, but has the location as Victoria). The old "infobox" decided that his first name was William. Have you any sources you looked at, or any ideas of how to tell what information is genuine or what came from an old, non-referenced source? He's one of the one-match-wonders, so hardly the most important, but may as well sort it out while I've noticed! Any ideas? —User:MDCollins (talk) 21:55, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Alas, no recollection whatsoever. I checked books I might have used and nothing there, so can only assume I made the name William up, or it has since been dropped from CA (which is improbable). In 1972 Texasgulf had a JV agreement with HPPL and WPPL to establish the Iron Ore (Rhodes Ridge) Agreement with the WA Government. Page 16 of this Powerpoint doc shows a photo of Lang in front of a sign that says "Texasgulf Australia Rhodes Ridges Project". The same document later says "these areas were then confiscated by the West Australian government, and later given to a competing company". Boohoo. Moondyne, apparently you have poor taste in personal photos. That Ddf photo that someone dug up out of the trash can is not fine. ...but if you insist, I defer to your obviously finer taste. I was actually trying to find a better photo to do justice to this fine young lady, and you seem to think that a mug shot is the best that we can do. Well, I beg to differ, and you should too, if you have any standards at all.

The idea of not having a picture at all was not mine, therefore, I did not offer it in the discussion.
