FcpCascais lists

Hi Christian, I hope you know that I was joking when I told you about past calcio time, and I´ve called you "Rossi" becouse I don´t know if you want to be called by your name in general forums, so as you are italian, and I imagine that a cool guy and a "Champion", just like Valentino Rossi, see? That was my way to say:"Where have you been? I´ve missed you and I could use your help." . Hey, I´m :-( about what you´ve said... It has been very hard for me to gather all the info I need. My league is sh**ty, not like your glorius SerieA. I´m having real trouble to find information... In all this period, with the exeption of the 76 untill 90/91, I didn´t even get the league statistics of the other recent seasons!!! I´m completely dark about the 90´s, and with the exeption of BSK squads(and only from winning seasons, 7 in 17 or 18), I can´t find almost any data about other clubs from the early period!!! It looks that my list is the only one existing in the world about it. I also had to change my introduction many times, so the lists would be right. But if you see, what says there is right with the content of the list. Of course I may be missing some years and many players, and some players didn´t had league matches, but I can´t know untill I don´t find the seasons stats. That´s wy I´ve changed my introduction. When you have time, I´ll apreciate a lot if you can tell me your opinion, and what you dislike. That can´t be "dangerous", I supose... Other, much more important thing: did anything happend to your girlfriend? Is she OK? You left me warring... I was serious about Mexico. I was very young, but I was in 6th flour looking to big (American style) bildings falling to dust! My bilding was only brocken in one side... 1930 FIFA World Cup

I'm gradually (very gradually) trying to get 1930 FIFA World Cup into the kind of shape where it can be nominated at FAC – aiming to get it on the main page when the 2010 World Cup kicks off. I recall you having quite a bit of expertise when it comes to the early World Cups. Indeed, having just looked at your userpage, I see mention of Cris Freddi, whose book has naturally featured heavily in the references due to its comprehensiveness. Could you have a read through and tell me if you see any obvious errors, or glaring omissions? One part I am thinking of binning is mention of the phantom third place playoff, since credible sources rarely mention it and it seems clear to me that it is a fiction. Jimmy Gallagher

FIFA has different birth dates. This this the FIFA profile for the World Cup Gallagher^[1] and for the 1928 Olympic Gallagher.^[2] Add in the different teams and it appears they are two different players. Also, there were five Gallaghers in the American Soccer League during this era. We know the first names of only two of them - Jimmy and John. Ukrainian name in Soviet Union

Negative, officially Ukrainian had no less priority than Russian and was even written on the Soviet money banknotes. For the international communication the Russian language was encouraged. About the records I was born in the western Ukraine, it might have been a different story for the eastern side. However in my birth certificate (in general Ukraine has no much difference from the rest of civilized world and if you think that is how it should, that is probably how it is) my name first was recorded in Ukrainian and then Russian (for the inter-republican use). Ukrainian did have an official use especially on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR (along with Russian). All these talks about exclusiveness of Russian is simply craziness. Russian was recognized as the official language only by the parliament in 1989. However the Verkhovna Rada created a law that same year stating that the Ukrainian language is the official on the territory of Ukraine. So, writing of all these Ukrainian based names in Russian is a simple mark of pure ignorance and/or illiteracy. The reason why all the geographic and scientific names were in Russian is because the Soviet Ministry of Education signed the order to write all of the dissertations and scientific works exclusively in Russian, while the geographic names were adapted, not only due to that, but also to ease the use of maps such as for military purposes. The Ukrainian culture indeed suffered greatly from the intense Russification and that is a proven fact. To this day most of population even though say that their native language Ukrainian prefer to speak in Russian and can be easily persuaded to do so. On the personal note, I remember my great-grandfather on my mother's side who had a difficult time to understand Russian clearly while never having problem to understand Polish and some German. When we were watching TV he was asking to translate for him. It was a huge surprise to me that I could not understand as my school thought me that Russian and Ukrainian are almost the same. On my father's side, I am the third generation of Ukrainian born Russians who came from Omsk (Siberia). In truth I have not seen the Shevchenko's birth certificate, however, I am pretty sure that he also have his Ukrainian name is written there in the first place. Nothing was physically forced per se, but rather everybody were put in front of a fact. So, lawfully everybody had to follow or else.... There was KGB as you know, and the famous Article 58. Compulsory?! Are you kidding? Obviously, you have little idea of the Russian free will. In Soviet Union as in the former Russian Empire you just have to be like everybody else or else you were always questioned by agencies or had the potential on being in such position. The human rights were never utilized until the formation of the Helsinki groups (Kyiv, Moscow, and other cities) which was the whole reason for their formation - because no human rights were actually protected in the Soviet Union. If you were born in Ukraine your name had to be spelled as such. My parents had trouble to preserve our family name as it had danger to become Grigoriv. It is not a big deal, but still. In the Russian Empire the Germans and Jews commonly were changing their names. Such practices were with German Gotlieb that became Bogdan, Perl - Zhemchuzhyna, and many others. Everybody were subjected to become Russians eventually. When the Russian Empire fell that practice was a little eased in favor of the regions of the Soviet Union. However, look at the surname Shevchenko. It does not get any Ukrainian than is. Writing his name as Andrei again is not a big of a deal, but simply when you pronounce it, it sounds more of Russian than Ukrainian. To understand the whole thing one needs to go far into folklore studying which is not a favorite subject out there for most. From that and the history of law development in Ukraine you will see what is the whole Confuoz (Russian: state of confusion). Does that answer your question? Please, let me know. The reason I brought up Voronin is the fact that he is celebrity in Ukraine and a lot younger generation is looking up to him. That was kind of topic. I simply want to relate why the whole issue is being discussed so often and broadly. Is Andriy Shevchenko legally Andriy Shevchenko? Yes, he is, according to his birth certificate and the proper rules of transliterations (Ukrainian-English) which were adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. Of course, one can use the google books and all other crazy stuff like in case with Kiev vs. Kyiv, Vladimir vs. Volodymyr, and many, many more. Because why? Convenience? Is convenience an academical research? A lot of wikipedians simply refer to such source while ignoring the reality. That is the primary reason why other people turn away from the wikipedia. Thank you. And yes. The Soviet Union combined different cultures from Germanic to Turkic and Persian. Therefore the Russian was simply the language for international communication. Officially nor a single other language was discriminated, but behind the scenes the ways of the former Russian Empire remained. All the names, of course, were written in Cyrillic again for the purpose of consistency. And I think the Russians did a great job in that regard. Re Kosovan footballers

Yes, I understand you perfectly, the Kosovan footballers have been playing around the world using many different nationalities, and many have played for several NT mostly of the country where some had emigrated. I had gathered some in one list that I made recently, List of Yugoslavia born footballers who have played for other national teams, and there are found all the Kosovar Albanian (Kosovan) footballers that I know that have been capped by some NT. But, in that list, I am not including the ones that played for NT´s of the former Yugoslav republics...
Just to say, for people that may unpurpously read the comments that "our misunderstandings and different views" have nothing to do with "Kosovan footballers" but some other completely different stuff that I don´t even remember exactly what it was...
Regarding the issue, I have a rather particular view, quite distant from any "nationalistic" POV, and consists in supporting the Kosovo national football team and its league and clubs, and its inclusion in the World and European football associations, completely unrelatedly to the fact that the country is, or not, independent. I propose, for time being, treating Kosovo same way as Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland or Faroe Islands, as not independent states with completely "functional" NT. I really think that would be in the interess of all parties involved.
Regarding the information on Kosovan football and its players, I have been making an attempt to write articles about it and I had found extreme difficulties. I had asked several Kosovan or Albanian wikipedians for help in many ocasions. It is really hard to have information from there. I really don´t know if a complete list of what you ask me even exists... As unbeleavable as may sound, much information I have been getting from translating some Albanian football forums... Perhaps another related topic WP list where I have been collaborating may give a litlle help List of Albanian football players playing abroad.
About Kosovan (meaning only ethnic Albanians) players that had played for the Yugoslavia or former Yugoslavia NT´s that I remember now at this moment are:

• Fadil Vokrri (Yugoslavia)
• Fahrudin Jusufi (Yugoslavia) - born in Kosovo but ethnic Gorani
• Igor Duljaj (Serbia) - ethnic Albanian, born in Serbia proper, not Kosovo.
• Bojan Neziri (Serbia) - half ethnic Albanian, born in Serbia proper, not Kosovo.
• Kujtim Shala (Croatia)
• Ardian Kozniku (Croatia)
• I´m sure there has been some Kosovan players playing for Slovenia and Croatia recently, but I am not sure if they were all born in Kosovo or some. Macedonia may had too, but since they have their own Albanian minority, without checking, is hard to know wich are Macedonian born, or which are from Kosovo (if any...). I´ll post them here for you when I find them, if you want.

1938 FIFA World Cup Indonesian squad

Hi! Yes, i know there are only little information known about the Dutch Indies team, especially because they only played one game at that time. About the squad, shouldn't we just stick with the information on FIFA's website?[4]. I just wrote an article about the team's participation in the World Cup on my blog[5], but it's in Indonesian though. And i'm still looking for more information on the team, for example their participation in the Far Eastern Championship, and a friendly game against the Netherlands after the 1938 WC.
