Information icon Hello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Alan Goncalves Sousa, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:06, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Tiémoué Bakayoko, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:06, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at Moses Simon, you may be blocked from editing. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:05, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

I’m sorry, I thought it would be ok if I added a source later on, but I forgot to do so. I’ll make sure to add a source every time I edit! Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:07, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

hello. why did you remove my sandbox edit??? 99.127.27.9 (talk) 22:42, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Uhh what? Sorry, I just went on the sandbox thinking it was only visible to me... I’m new to sandbox Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:44, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

The Wikipedia sandbox is a public page available to anyone, and may be overwritten of cleared by anyone at any time. You did nothing wrong. Each named user (such as yourself) also has access to his or her own account's sandbox. Just click the "Sandbox" tab at the top of the page. Meters (talk) 04:01, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Then why did you say why did you remove my sandbox edit if I didn’t touch anything? Paul Vaurie (talk) 04:03, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Look at the signatures. I am not the same user as the IP. And I did not say that you "didn't touch anything". You did undo the IP's sandbox edit. I didn't look at it so I have no idea what the content was. I was simply pointing out that you are allowed to do that. Any content in the sandbox can be overwritten or deleted by anyone at any time. There's even an automated bot that will periodically clear the sandbox. In this case the IP in question has a named account and has used his or her own account's sandbox. For whatever reason they are using Wikipedia's sandbox as an IP now, bu they have no basis to complain about you having removed their content. I'd suggest that they might not have realized that they were on Wikipedia's sandbox rather than their own, but it seems obvious that they should have known given that their material was cleared by bots several times. Whatever. Just ignore the IP's complaint. Meters (talk) 04:17, 16 May 2020 (UTC).

Thanks! Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:53, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Mavididi

Hi there - the issue isn't that there wasn't a source, the issue was that the source did not support your edit. The source says that Mavididi is expected to sign for Montpellier in the future, not that he actually has. We do not predict the future, see WP:CRYSTAL. GiantSnowman 20:42, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Yes I know that, sorry, I just couldn’t find another source to use because I don’t know how to use the same source twice— I can’t access different parts of the article on mobile. Is it allowed to use the same source twice? Because I don’t know. Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:25, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Updating caps and stats

Hello, I'm Robby.is.on. Welcome to Wikipedia! I just wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions were not quite right. When updating statistics within the infobox of a footballer, please make sure you update the timestamp at the same time, so that both readers and fellow editors know when the information was last updated.

You can do this by replacing the existing timestamp within the |club-update= or |pcupdate= parameter for club stats, or the |nationalteam-update= or |ntupdate= parameter for international stats. For articles that use a DMY date format, use five tildes (~~~~~), or for MDY dates, use {{subst:mdytime}}. This will generate the specific time the update was made.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:49, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi. You're right about notability. I can't believe I missed that which would have saved me looking up the clubs he played for and managed to check what league they were in when he was there. Regards. --John B123 (talk) 07:39, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Thank you! Also, I want to point out that by the way, one of the citations includes what clubs he played for in what leagues. Have a good day! Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Stub categories

Hi Paul. Categories such as "Category:European football biography stubs" should not be manually added to articles. Instead, articles are automatically categorised into these categories through stub templates like {{France-footy-defender-stub}}. See WP:TAGSTUB for details. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 08:15, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Daily Mail reference at Jesé

Hi Paul. The Daily Mail reference you added at Jesé needs to be replaced. See WP:DAILYMAIL. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 13:23, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: Hey Robby. Sorry about that, I removed the reference. Now that I go back and think about it, it was not really necessary to have a reference there in the first place. Anyways, have a good day! Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:29, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for fixing that. Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 13:33, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Play-off matches in Belgian, Dutch and other leagues

Hi Paul. Jérémy Doku's previous stats for the 2018–19 season were correct. You were probably unable to verify this as the reference I'd added a while ago was removed by an IP. I've reinstated the correct numbers with the reference.

The difficulty with the Belgian league (as well as the Dutch and a few others) is that it has play-off matches after the regular season which we don't include in the infobox. Soccerway doesn't make that differentiation whereas Worldfootball.net does, which is why I would also recommend the latter for these leagues. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 12:55, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: Sorry about that. Best regards. Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:21, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Let's speak in English, it's easier for you and for me when editing the English Wikipedia. I am actually not an administrator at all, I only have 2.6K edits and I started editing regularly in August. I am no more experienced than you at this. Robby is a bit more experienced, and GiantSnowman is a veteran -- he has hundreds of thousands of edits. Anyways, thanks for communicating in French, that was nice of you, but I rather speak in English here. Thanks! Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:30, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Paul Vaurie: Je pensais que c'était poli de vous parler en français, mais bien sûr, je préfère parler anglais dans une conversation car c'est plus rapide pour moi et je parie que vous parlez mieux l'anglais que le français. Do you know any more tolls other than Wiki Double check for vandal fighting as it’s something i’m trying to help with Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 15:36, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Gameshowandsportsfan2007: I'd say I speak French and English at approximately the same level.
Anyways, back to the subject: I am sadly unable to help you on this topic. You know, I just edit Wikipedia for the fun of it, I'm not really going around like a policeman and fighting IP editing too much. I really haven't ventured too far out of my comfort zone on Wikipedia, there is still a lot I don't know about it. I'm just a passive editor. I don't really know how to help you. Sorry about that. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:43, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Paul Vaurie: i speak French at a lower level than English though i am trying to learn it more. No worries thank you and have a nice day. 15:47, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Gameshowandsportsfan2007: Good to know! Have a nice day! Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:49, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Kays Ruiz-Atil

Can you please explain me what was not correct in my edit you undid ? There is only one stay with U15 in end of 2016, according to the source, more precisely in november according to the facebook source you removed. Neither "january 2017" nor "regularly".—Df (talk) 21:21, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

@Df: Alright, then fix it yourself, but do not make disruptive edits like you did, you made some spelling and grammatical errors in your edit. And Facebook is not a reliable source, that's why I removed it. Now do what you think is best, just try to keep your grammar correct. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:12, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Well, I apologize if I mistreated Shakespeare tongue in any way, though I don't see how (is that U15 that bothers you ?) and I would have expected to be corrected, rather than be reverted. Would it be correct to write "Born in France with Moroccan origins, Ruiz-Atil was selected with Morocco national under-15 football team in November 2016" ?—Df (talk) 02:07, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
@Df: No it wasn't your writing style, you made a slight spacing error (I should have been more specific, sorry.) Just a misunderstanding. Have a good day. Paul Vaurie (talk) 02:33, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

He is French-Moroccan not only French. Atlaslion1912 (talk) 19:52, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

@Atlaslion1912: It does not matter what you think he is, under WP:ETHNICITY he is French. Anything else is incorrect and will be reverted. Please do not start an edit war. By the way, you wrote this comment under the wrong section in my talk page, but whatever. Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:54, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Kays Ruiz-Atil nationality

He is Moroccan-French, not only French. He plays for the Moroccan youth teams, so why do you remove my edit?? Atlaslion1912 (talk) 20:17, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

@Atlaslion1912: Hey, thanks for using your account. Anyways, see WP:ETHNICITY for why he should be considered French and not French-Moroccan in the opening paragraph. Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:13, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

In the whole page, His Moroccan nationality was mentioned, he has both Nationalities. If people go to his page and read “French footballplayer” they think he s just french, but he is Moroccan either. I think the best solution is, like at other pages, we write “French born Moroccan”. We cant deny his Moroccan nationality. Atlaslion1912 (talk) 16:33, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

@Atlaslion1912: Please read the message I put on your talk page about this. GiantSnowman replied on there, and said that the correct nationality is "French". Read my comment on your talk page, please. Thank you and have a good day. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:54, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Mathias Pogba

Hi Paul. Has Mathias Pogba retired? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 08:57, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: Hey Robby, no, he has not as of my knowledge. He just does not play for a professional club anymore, therefore he's not a "professional" footballer, he's just a "footballer". Sorry for the confusion, Paul Vaurie (talk) 12:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
We do not know whether or not he is being paid by the non-professional club or whether he might return to a fully professional club. For now, I think it's right to assume playing football is still his job. Robby.is.on (talk) 13:49, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Oh, it is still his job, but he does not have professional status is what I'm saying. Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:56, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Do we know that? https://www.marca.com/futbol/mas-futbol/2020/08/07/5f2d6a7f46163f3cad8b45f6.html – to me, this reads very much like there's money involved. And if Pogba is earning his living with playing football, that makes him a professional player, does it not? Robby.is.on (talk) 14:09, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: I thought professional meant that he is playing for a club in a professional league. Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:11, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I don't know? ;-) I have been looking for a definition but I haven't found one.
I think it's fair to assume that a player playing for a club in a professional league is a professional player. But I don't think a player playing for a club in a non-professional league is necessarily a non-professional.
Players who earn money for playing but have to have another job on the side to have enough to live are referred to as semi-professionals. So I would reckon that players who earn enough money to not have to do another job are professionals. Robby.is.on (talk) 14:18, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Alright, fair enough. But maybe you should ask this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football? And provide a link to our discussion? Just a suggestion so maybe we can get more information about this and maybe establish "consensus" (I'm not sure that's how you use this word, but I tried.) Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:22, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
I'll probably do that but not now, I'm too lazy. :-D And in my perception there doesn't seem much disagreement across WP:FOOTY, I believe we've been handling it the way I described. Robby.is.on (talk) 15:49, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Hey Robby, have you asked about this and provided a link to our discussion here about this subject on the talk page of WikiProject Football? If you have not, do not worry, I will do so. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:25, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
I haven't. Fire away! :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 08:39, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

International goals articles

The consensus is pretty clear that standalone international goal articles should really be reserved for players who are or at one point were the top goalscorer for their country.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 04:15, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Ok. Paul Vaurie (talk) 04:54, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of international goals scored by Olivier Giroud is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of international goals scored by Olivier Giroud until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 21:40, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Infobox formatting

Please do not use Visual Editor to edit football articles as it messes up the infobox formatting, as you have done at Idrissa Gueye multiple times. GiantSnowman 19:05, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

I don't think we should tell people which editor to use over preferences involving whitespace. The issue of infobox formatting was recently discussed at WP:FOOTY ([1]) and there is no consensus on the use of whitespace in the infobox. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 19:41, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Why does it mess it up anyways? Paul Vaurie (talk) 21:12, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Lucas Bernadou

Hi Paul, saw your recent edits on Lucas Bernadou. Just wanted to point out few things. B team or official reserve team of PSG got shut down in May 2019. Bernadou and Moussa Sissako were the only two players who opted to stay with the club. However they were ineligible for U19 league matches as they were born in 2000. Thus, they could be considered as part of senior team in 2019-20 season as they had pro contracts (just like Saidani, Kapo, Oufella, Fressange etc this season)

In Bernadou's case, he started playing with amateurs in 2020 and Sissako went on loan. It should be noted that Amateur side or C team of PSG existed even before shut down of B team. Amateurs used to play in 6th division and B team used to play in 4th division. When B team got shut down and relegated to 5th division, Amateurs occupied their spot from 2019-20 season onwards. They are two completely different teams, even though Soccerway haven't saw them like that, which makes a small confusion. None of players from amateur side have pro contracts and it can't be seen as reserve team. They are like Ajax, Jong Ajax and Ajax amateurs which are three teams of a club that plays in different divisions of the same league system. So I guess in Bernadou's case, all 3 teams should be mentioned. I havent seen any other PSG player with this scenario in recent times though. Kokoeist (talk) 07:44, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

@Kokoeist: Yep, I know about the reserve team being cancelled and the amateur side getting promoted in 2019. The thing is, I just assumed that the new amateur side took the name of reserve (B) team, since it's PSG second team now. And also, you're telling me that PSG have only 1 player who chose to play for the C team on Wikipedia? Paul Vaurie (talk) 12:57, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
@Paul Vaurie: Hi Paul, as far as I know, no other PSG players with pro contracts have played for club's amateur side in 5th or 6th division. It could've happened in Moussa Sissako's case, but he went on loan instead. Even in this current season, none of those 2001 born players with pro contracts (Fadiga, Kapo, Saidani, Fressange etc) have played for amateur team. So Bernadou can be taken as an exception.
@Kokoeist: Do you mean that any player in the future that plays for the current PSG team in the Championnat National 3 will be considered "Paris Saint-Germain Amateurs" in the infobox and not "Paris Saint-Germain B"? Because personally, I find that since it is now the second-highest team, it should be called "B" for articles where the previous B team is not included. To make the difference on Lucas Bernardou I'm ok with, but say in the future Fressange plays for this team, I wouldn't say we call it "Amateurs". Just my opinion. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:48, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
By the way, Kokoeist, I think we should refer to the PSG Amateurs team as "Paris Saint-Germain C" - I have seen this on this article for example or on the page Bernard Guignedoux. Paul Vaurie (talk) 02:17, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

re: Why did the previous editor remove all this? (edit summary) on Régional 1

I'm not the previous editor, but the previous editor in question did originally add all the material that he deleted. It's also out of date (references 2019–20 season) and given the current doubts over the 2020–21 amateur season actually ever restarting, he probably decided to do as he stated, and start again for 2021–22. I'd suggest self-reverting to restore. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 15:57, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Stade Saint-Germain

Would the old Stade Saint-Germain club be considered notable (i.e. did it play in the Coupe de France?) prior to its merging into PSG? GiantSnowman 16:53, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Well, all French clubs in general play in the Coupe de France, and Stade Saint-Germain did play, they even made it into the Quarterfinals once in 1969. Yes, it was notable. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:58, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
Do you have sources? I'll create a quick stub. GiantSnowman 12:46, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
I just went off the French article for what I said about the Coupe de France. You can create a quick stub if you want... I don't really have any sources to give you but I can maybe help you. The French article does not cite any sources akwardly either but it has a lot of info but I don't think its incorrect because there are some knowledgeable French editors who put their own knowledge there... anyways you can prob make a draft and I can help you but I don't have any sources at the moment. Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:48, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: So... what's the deal? Paul Vaurie (talk) 23:38, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

I made some improvements -- I was wondering, I think it's a good idea we put Stade Saint-Germain in the Paris Saint-Germain F.C. template. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:32, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
By the way, can you create Category:Stade Saint-Germain players? Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:36, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Also by the way about the logo I added, I think that this is just the coat of arms for the town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Transfermarkt had that as the logo so I just added it. I don't know if maybe you can just delete it from Wikipedia since you're an admin. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:43, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Hey Paul, you can create the category yourself, it's not hard or complex. Just use an existing one as a template. :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 16:56, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: Before I suggest deletion to the players that played in cup finals, GS, do you say playing in a cup final with a non-pro team makes a player pass NFOOTY?

US Torcy

Hi Paul. I just created an article for US Torcy, a club known for its youth development. Apparently, it's a partner club of PSG. Maybe you'd like to add to it. :-) Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

PSG B player category

No, no other club has such a category that I can see, see Category:Footballers in France by club - so just include any B players in the main player article. GiantSnowman 16:32, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Ok. I have another message on your talk page, by the way. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:37, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Manager names

For managers who were players we use 'footballer' or, if there are multiple, 'footballer, born XXXX'. If the manager never played (rare) then use 'football manager'. GiantSnowman 16:37, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:38, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

AS Étaples

Yes, there is longstanding convention that playing in the national cup competition confers notability on a club. GiantSnowman 16:57, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: Do you think I can move that to mainspace? Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:00, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Sure. GiantSnowman 17:01, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: Hey, GS. I'm a bit confused by this, because in France, all clubs participate in the Coupe de France. I personally think the clubs have to have at least reached certain tier or made a certain round of the cup. Otherwise it's really vague, I could be making articles on 12th tier teams. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:11, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

They need to play in the CDF proper, not just qualifying rounds. GiantSnowman 18:49, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Alright, so when does the CDF proper start? Seventh round, I assume? (This is what I saw as the earliest round for 2020–21 on the main article.) Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:11, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Could I get a follow-up? Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 02:32, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Your ping only works if you sign at the same time. I don't know - the first round I would think, like in the FA Cup? GiantSnowman 18:31, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
That would be pretty far back... in my opinion it should be 7th round for the CDF. Do you want to discuss this on WP:FOOTY? Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:32, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

A request

Hi, if you create the page for a French football club, could you please add it to List of football clubs in France, or drop me a note on my talk page and I'll add it? I've added AS Étaples. There seems, unfortunately, to be no way to find newly created pages other than searching the contributions of known page creators! Thanks in advance, Gricehead (talk) 20:17, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

No problem! By the way, did you add ESALM? And secondly, if you have time, could you add links to AS Étaples on Coupe de France season articles? Paul Vaurie (talk) 20:44, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Yes I added Linas-Montlhéry, and I've added as many wikilinks for AS Étaples as I can find. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 21:36, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

"If I recall correctly". Unsure what you mean by category? GiantSnowman 12:32, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: I mean, how do I add the "Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves."? Paul Vaurie (talk) 12:45, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
You should list the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Nominations for deletion and page moves and then copy & paste the wording onto the RM - see "When listing a nomination or discussion here, please copy-paste the relevant notice to the discussion" and the wording to copy. Hi, I would suggest you apply for WP:AUTOPAT: this way, your created articles are directly marked as reviewed and won't be included in the New Pages Feed. Nehme1499 01:02, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for recommending this. It means a lot! Happy editing. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:08, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I also suggest you download User:Kephir/gadgets/rater (to make it easier to create the talk page), and User:SD0001/StubSorter (to add stub tags). P.S. if you were to be granted autopatrol benifits, for the players who don't satisfy WP:NFOOTY, please try to make sure that they really satisfy WP:GNG (as I've noticed a few recently deleted pages). Nehme1499 01:23, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok, I will check out these two gadgets. However, don't worry about the non-NFOOTY players; I rarely make such articles anymore, though I did in the past. I only did because I was unaware of the fully professional league years for Ligue 2, and because of an issue with cup finals. But yes, I will make sure in that scenario that they meet GNG. 01:25, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Paul Vaurie, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Go Phightins! 23:47, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Bourges...

Hi Paul, I know you're a big fan of redirects for previous club names, so I thought you'd appreciate this.

This summer, Bourges 18 (previously called Bourges Football and FC Bourges 18 amongst other things), with a quite apt 18 redirects, will merge with Bourges Foot, with just 5 redirects, into a new club imaginatively called... Bourges Foot 18. I guess we'll need to keep both old articles and maintain the old redirects to them, and create a new article for the new club, as both constituents clubs are of equal standing. But Bourges Foot and Bourges 18 would both be valid redirects to the new club name as well. Fun. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 07:19, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Woah, this seems confusing. When should we create the new article? Sometime this summer, you say? Paul Vaurie (talk) 12:10, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
@Gricehead: By the way, where can I find the redirects? Paul Vaurie (talk) 12:11, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Redirects can be shown by going to What links here on the article (under tools on the sidebar), and then hiding links and transclusions. The article should probably be created once the current season ends; there is no defined end date for National 2 at the moment as it's paused with a potential restart in May. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 13:40, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Alright, thank you! Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:59, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Another thing: the reference at Frédéric Jay, his profile at worldfootball.net, doesn't support his stint as manager of UF Mâconnais. Can you add a source that does? Robby.is.on (talk) 17:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

I got that from the French Wikipedia article of fr:UF Mâconnais. But I found a source about him being sacked at Macon. This indicates he did coach them. See this. Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Yes, I found one source saying he was hired in 2015 (this one) and the other one just above of him being sacked in 2017. Paul Vaurie (talk) 17:29, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello there,

i apologise for continuing to give you a "hard time" in this article. I sincerely do not see the problem with writing the club's full names in storyline (compressing in box and intro), but nevermind i'll cease (re)editing that part.

Explaining my last edit (honours): we don't add runner-up stuff in leagues, only cups. You can ask anywhere to see that i'm not lying, i've been here for 15 years. Should you reinstate it again, fair enough, i'll also leave it be ;)

Happy editing, sorry for any inconvenience (and what a love story from Mr. Adams and wife that is!) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 10:33, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

  • Only noticed your message on my other IP (that one is from home, this is in my workplace). Thanks, and again sorry for the inconvenience! --193.137.135.2 (talk) 11:40, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Alright, thank you very much! And by the way, just one thing: the Championnat de France Amateur (1935–1971) actually had a final, meaning that one team was winner and one was runner-up. That's the format of it. It's a bit like the MLS Play-offs. I think we should keep it in the Honours section. Paul Vaurie (talk) 11:54, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Nice teamwork, i only performed a minor adjustment because (maybe you did not notice it) i previously relocated your source to storyline (if you did not know how to do it yet, you can insert the same ref in various parts of the article (as many as you want) inserting a code name (you can also choose any title you want, but it has to stay the same anytime you mention the ref) in the first "ref" column. I think it depends on people's screens/setting etc., but you could try experimenting with {{No wrap}}? GiantSnowman 18:18, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Ok, I will try that. Thank you! Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:19, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: No wrap worked on my end. Can you see it the same way I do? Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:46, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
Yep, that's worked for me. GiantSnowman 20:36, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Eric Martin

I suspect it's there to disambiguate from Éric Martin (footballer, born 1959) or Éric Martin (footballer, born 1973). The Scottish player should probably be moved to Eric Martin (footballer, born 1946) instead? I suggest you start a RM. GiantSnowman 16:01, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Well, there is a difference in diacritic, no? Or does the diacritic not matter? Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:04, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: I will start an RM but I don't really think it's the most important RM because it's just a question of diacritic. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:05, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
It's not - it's a case of should the article about the Scottish player be at one of 3 possible locations? GiantSnowman 16:08, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: For future reference, GS, diacritics should make the difference for page naming, correct? What I mean is that if I have two players called Ramon Messi and Ramón Messi, they can't just be at Ramon Messi and Ramón Messi, but need to be at Ramon Messi (footballer, born 1950) and Ramón Messi (footballer, born 1967), for example? Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:23, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
In a case of two players, you might get away with it - but with Eric Martin there are 3! Remember most English/Americans etc do not use diacritics and cannot type them easily. GiantSnowman 16:25, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
I'll take that as a yes for my example. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:26, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Dener (footballer)

Hey, do you mind disambiguating Dener (footballer) further to Dener (footballer, born 1991)? And redirecting Dener (footballer) to Dener? Both of them are footballers, so current disambiguation is a little confusing.--Ortizesp (talk) 15:21, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Sure, I'll do that. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:18, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Montluçon Football

Hi Paul, If you have time and patience, it would be useful to have a proper article at Montluçon Football. It's been incorrectly redirected to the defunct ÉDS Montluçon since July last year, and I'm struggling to find any time to sort it out. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 07:33, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Sure thing, when I have time I will do this. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:47, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
@Gricehead: On the French Wikipedia, they have just made it that EDS Montlucon's article has become Montlucon Football. Apparently MF is a continuation of EDSM, and they own the history of the club. I would just convert EDS Montlucon to Montlucon Football like they did on there. Paul Vaurie (talk) 09:15, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Giuliano Maiorana

Hi Paul, when I removed his nationality from the lede I left the ref [2] in case it looked like vandalism but from looking at the edit history it was added to support the nationality ("Cambridge-born"), so should I remove it? Cheers. 00:45, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello. We usually don't do XXX-born YYY player. We just remove nationality and explain later in the lede. If I may ask, who are you? Paul Vaurie (talk) 04:07, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

I started a thread about removing his nationality on WT:FOOTY (assumed that's why you edited the page a few days ago, sorry if not). What I meant was since I've removed his nationality should ref [2] on the page be where it is? (after his name and DOB) as it was only added to support him being English (by saying he was born in Cambridge)? Hope that made more sense, cheers. 11:00, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

You could have just moved the reference to the birthplace thing in the infobox. I reworded the lede to include the source. There you go. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:48, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks but unfortunately the Italian ancestry in the lede violates WP:MOSETHNICITY. 12:33, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure about his citizenship. In this interview dated 5 years ago he says "I certainly am Italian and always classed myself as one. I’ve never had a British passport and both my parents are Italian. I was brought up as one." However he's English according to Barry Hugman's Footballers. It's also the next sentence, at the start of the 'career' section. 19:18, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Reword it how you want, I personally have no opinion at this point. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:53, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

D1 and D2 féminine

Shouldn't Division 1 Féminine and Division 2 Féminine be located at Division 1 féminine and Division 2 féminine (as "féminine" is an adjective)? The French wiki also uses lowercase "f" rather than capital "F". Nehme1499 09:15, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

I don't think "Féminine" is part of the official name. It's just what they call it as a common name. I would personally call the league Division 1 (French women's football) or something like that. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:52, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
@Nehme1499: Hey Nehme... I don't really feel like making the Division 2 feminine article. I would like the naming situation fixed beforehand; without having a proper name for the article, I feel put off on making it. Paul Vaurie (talk) 00:40, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi, You recently added warnings to my talk page about creating attack pages:

Can you mention which page this is (I don't remember creating an attack page)? ― Qwerfjkltalk 07:18, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi Qwerfjkl; I nominated Bruno Penandes and Penandes for deletion. They are both names used to diminish Bruno Fernandes and are therefore attack pages. Paul Vaurie (talk) 08:18, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
Per WP:RNEUTRAL, redirects from non-neutal names are permitted if widely known, which I believe is true in this case. ― Qwerfjkltalk 16:41, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Adam Schiff persona non grata in Azerbaijan?

Hi. On 7 December 2020, you made a change to the "See also" section of the Adam Schiff biography, stating that Schiff was on the List of people declared personae non gratae in Azerbaijan. While this may in fact be correct due to Schiff's public statements in support of the Republic of Artsakh (a.k.a. Nagorno-Karabakh), Schiff is not currently on this Wikipedia list page, and in the absence of any reliable source explicitly stating that Schiff is persona non grata in Azerbaijan, we (Wikipedia) cannot say that he is. Accordingly, I have removed this claim from his article. You are, of course, welcome to add Schiff to the list of people declared personae non gratae in Azerbaijan (and add mention of this back to his article) if you can cite a reliable source to back it up. But we can't "put two and two together" and draw this inference ourselves based on Schiff's public statements and Azerbaijan's policy on visits to Artsakh. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 04:11, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Richwales: sorry about that. I wasn't as rigorous about citing sources back then. Back on 7 December 2020, Schiff was in the list (see this version) of the non grata in Azerbaijan. That's why I put it in the article. I can't find any source to back it up, though. Thanks for letting me know about this. Paul Vaurie (talk) 06:24, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
