Removal of IPA[edit]

Please do not remove IPA transcriptions just because they have audio. As designated in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation, IPA is the recommended way of documenting pronunciation, whereas audio demonstrations are only an aid for illustrative purposes. November 2023[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Gulf of Mexico, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. The Manual of Style, at MOS:INFOBOXFLAG, says, Generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes, even when there is a "country", "nationality" or equivalent field: they could be unnecessarily distracting and might give undue prominence to one field among many. Donald Albury 17:45, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reminding me about that Reffyr (talk) 00:11, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can I ask you about how to revert the editing back about flagicon? Because I'm newby in editing Wikipedia and my English is very bad. Thanks Reffyr (talk) 00:43, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

December 2023[edit]

Information icon Hi Reffyr! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Source for Scots (and Irish) terms?[edit]

Hi, you've recently added Scots translations to a number of articles, can I check what source you're using for them? For example, the only Google results I see for "Ryal Reagement o Scotland" or "Scots Fire an Rescue Service" are from other Wikipedia sites. JaggedHamster (talk) 15:54, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I took from Scots Wikipedia for that pages. Is that wrong? Reffyr (talk) 15:57, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately self-referencing to Wikipedia isn't acceptable, see WP:UGC. If those pages have reliable sources cited on them, then referencing those sources would be the way to go. Also, it's worth mentioning the Scots Wikipedia in particular is a mess, see [1], that's from a few years ago but there's still a lot of very poor articles in it that don't reflect actual Scots. JaggedHamster (talk) 16:05, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But I see any other pages that include any language translations and I can't see the sources Reffyr (talk) 16:09, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay. But I can't revert the edits back. Thanks for your explanation Reffyr (talk) 16:11, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can I ask you another time about my questions in editing on Wikipedia? I don't know who to ask. Thank you very much. My English is very bad. I hope you can help me when I need it Reffyr (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest Wikipedia:Teahouse for questions about editing. JaggedHamster (talk) 16:27, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for helping me :') Reffyr (talk) 16:29, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The same WP:VER expectations apply to including Irish language names of topics/subjects in articles. If, for example and as seems to be the case, the only source for your addition to the Guinness Brewery article is Wikipedia and its mirrors/sister projects, then that is insufficient. In addition, and as per WP:IMOS, we only add the Irish version of the name (in the lead) when it is "a well-known, commonly used name for that subject". Otherwise, "If there is no commonly used Irish version, it is not appropriate or encyclopaedic to "invent" such names". Relying, as you seem to be doing, entirely on Irish language Wikipedia (as a source or justification for inclusion) is not sufficient. Unless you have reliable, independent and EXTERNAL sources (which confirm the Irish language name of a topic and establish that it is a "well-known, commonly used name for that subject"), then please stop adding Irish language names/labels to articles. Thanks. Guliolopez (talk) 11:13, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Non-latin script[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you recently added non-latin script (mostly Javanese) to some Indonesian province and dishes. Please note that, except for Yogyakarta province, Javanese and its script is not official language in Indonesia and we also have consensus to not included non-latin script in WP:Indonesia, unless it was official on that provice. Kindly, please do not add non-latin script on those articles. Thank you. Ckfasdf (talk) 04:45, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
