User:Eileen Loveman Williams - Did you read the autobiography policy? Did you read the conflict of interest policy? Wikipedia is not interested in being a medium for "bringing attention to the books" that you have written, but only in describing the attention that they have already received, and authors are very seldom able to assess neutrally whether what they are writing is neutral or is promotional. Most of the other articles about authors in Wikipedia were written by neutral volunteer editors, not by the authors or their agents or families, and articles that were written by persons with a conflict of interest are often deleted. Aubrey F Hess Submission tag[edit]

Robert you quickly responded to my submission of my article on Aubrey F. As I said in my review, the article appears to have been written to praise its subject rather than to describe him neutrally. I do not have any specific suggestions, but would advise you to rework the article and write it in neutral rather than positive language. (I know that that is not easy, and that many new editors want to present as positive as possible a view of the subject.) thanks for the comment - yes I think he does qualify, under these music notability criteria:

1. he's played with Flight of the Conchords on tours of the USA/Canada (2009 & 2016), UK/Europe (2010 & 2018), Australia & New Zealand (2012). All of these were extensively covered by local press in each country, which often explicitly mentioned him as part of the show. Likewise for the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, which has played in the UK, China, USA, Australia, Japan. He's also been filmed this year in London with the Conchords for a forthcoming live concert special/doco by HBO

User:Hitithard100 - First, it may be important to Orient Electric to have an article about Khanna. That doesn't make it important to Wikipedia. We have rules of notability and neutrality, and notability is based on independent coverage, not on what the company says about its CEO. Second, both another reviewer and I told you that you need to provide independent sources that are not affiliated with the company and that are not press releases. Third, I do not normally follow an article through the approval process, and I do not follow an article through the approval process for a paid editor, and I do not intend to guide you through providing the independent information that you need to provide. User:DTHOMPSONWI - Before trying to submit a draft article to Wikipedia, it is a good idea to have a general understanding of what Wikipedia is and is not and what articles it has. You apparently came in to Wikipedia to try to do the hardest task that can be done in Wikipedia, to create a new article, complete with the references, and you don't understand the rules, which is not your fault, but is not our fault either. You may simply be trying to do something that isn't going to work, just like you can't drive a car at 600 miles per hour or fly a 747 to the moon. I suggest that you first read Your First Article and play The Wikipedia Adventure, and take your time reading the questions of other new editors at the Teahouse. After you know what questions to ask, ask them. It isn't clear to me that there is anything that you can do to change the draft to make it acceptable, but read what I advised. You might consider passing on AFC's for chemistry articles to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry or even to me. A lot of the articles are for homework and the kids would benefit from a chem editor's advice. If there were a way to sort AFCs by subject, I would. User:Smokefoot - Thanks. I can handle the chemistry AFCs myself. My degree in the subject is 49 years old, but is better than nothing and is more chemistry than most people know. I can pass the chemistry on to the project, as I do for some projects. If you want the chemistry AFCs, I can send them to you, but I can handle them myself. User:Smokefoot - Yes. They have added a few elements at the end of the periodic table, but they don't last long enough to have chemistry that can be tested experimentally, and the quantum-theoretical models of electron clouds break down, so that neither experiment nor theory can be used, so there isn't any chemistry. The inconsistency with the thermodynamics always was whether the positive sign meant enthalpy into the system or enthalpy out of the system. I read a few papers by Clausius, and he, Clausius, was inconsistent in his sign conventions, and that hasn't changed. As to the AFCs, the scientific drafts are not the overwhelming ones. I accept the chemistry and biology drafts if they look reasonable and have at least one reliable source. With the physics and mathematics drafts, it is a matter of using scientific common sense to determine whether they are science or some sort of some sort of woo. If a draft has to do with anything that happened more than a hundred years ago and has at least one reliable source, I accept it; it has aged out of conflict of interest into history. The ones that I have a hard time on are the small companies and the musicians. I usually get lazy and leave a note in them that I am leaving them for another reviewer. Hi there. Thanks for your feedback on my Article. This is 'Oita Natalie' I am an alumnus of Fort Street. I am also teaching translation at a university here in Sydney. I was trying to test out posting a translation of that article in Japanese (not Chinese, by the way). I've followed the same procedure but there doesn't seem to be an option to submit it for review. Do you know what the process is for the non-English versions? User:Jameswenlongli - This is the English Wikipedia. The English Wikipedia does not have foreign-language versions of articles. Have you looked at the Chinese Wikipedia? Does it have an article on the Australian Defence Force Academy, in Chinese? If not, I would assume that you can submit your version to the Chinese Wikipedia, although I am not familiar with the Chinese Wikipedia or its policies and guidelines (and cannot read Chinese). You may ask any more questions about translations of articles at the Teahouse, but the English Wikipedia does not have articles in languages other than English (and I assume that the Chinese Wikipedia does not have articles in languages other than Chinese).   • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Hello Robert, This is Before the Bang (talk) 02:04, 30 October 2018 (UTC) writing regarding the page Lin Shu-ling. The page has been tagged regarding neutrality and notability. I feel these issues have now been addressed and ask if you could please check the page again. Regarding notability, I have included over ten different media references referring to Lin Shu-ling as a leading activist in the Taitung Miramar Resort protest. This includes several published articles where Lin is either the sole subject of the article, or a main subject. I have also referenced interviews or observations from two different academic thesis, including Timothy Chen's Imaginative Geographies and State Reliance, 2015, and Glenn Smith 2015: Indigenous activists win legal battles.[reply]

ANI Complaint[edit]

You are mistaken, or misinformed. I filed an ANI complaint against the arbitrary and uncivil behavior of Guy Macon yesterday, so your complaint today appears to be retaliation, or harassment. You might go back to the beginning of this to understand that I did NOT edit any article, but merely attempted to send a message to two other editors on their talk pages seeking comments on a proposal for a new project. Jimbo Wales talk page contains a permanent banner inviting such messages. Regardless what you may think about my proposal, Guy Macon was uncivil when he summarily deleted my message without discussion and proceeded to start insulting me. Since then he has followed me around Wikipedia and has posted derogatory comments at every location where I have left a message. That, I believe, constitutes stalking, or what others may call harassment. So, in effect, you are doing the dirty work for a stalker. I heard him speak at Columbia Business School at an event and read his books. His contribution to management thinking is noteworthy. I see that the only statements of opinions have been via edit summaries, and edit summaries do not count as discussion for purposes of content dispute resolution. My closure of that RFC is a starting point. It isn't much of a starting point for two reasons. The first is its age, and Consensus Can Change. The second is that WikiProjects do not have content authority. (There was an ArbCom case in which the ArbCom rejected a suggestion that WikiProjects have content authority over whether articles should have infoboxes, and that is because WikiProjects are informal and voluntary.) The RFC was on a WikiProject talk page, not on the talk page of the article in question, and not on a Manual of Style talk page, and did not go into the Manual of Style. So there is a very non-binding opinion, and the next step is discussion on the article talk page. If discussion on the article talk page is inconclusive, see the dispute resolution policy. Some dispute resolution steps could be a non-binding Third Opinion, a binding Request for Comments on the article talk page, or a binding RFC on the Manual of Style. User:Ptebwwong - This one puzzled me too. However, take a very careful look at the exact wording of the two references, to This Is It (Scott McCreery song), and This Is It (Scotty McCreery song). What form of his name is being makes the difference. The use of his exact name takes you to the song. The use of the familiar form (to a Northerner, the boy's form) of his name takes you to the album that the song is in, because the redirect was there before you wrote the article on the song. User:Ptebwwong - The primary title is now This Is It (Scott McCreery song), but the redirect makes This Is It (Scotty McCreery song) a working alternate title. I took care of that yesterday. I can see that you would like to swap which title is primary, but that really isn't necessary. If you were to try to change this by moving the article, it wouldn't work because the two titles (one primary, one redirect) are already there. I can do what is known as a round-robin move to swap them. That requires the Page Mover privilege, and I have the Page Mover privilege. Article naming[edit]

Hi, Thanks for reviewing and approving my article for main space. I was wondering why the name was changed. I thought I had draft named it as Standing Committee on Finance (India). If I had not, I am terribly sorry. I have been making these articles along these lines as can be seen from the other articles I have made and was hoping to remain consistent.

Also there must be many countries which have a Standing Committee on Finance, so the country disambiguator would also serve the purpose. Moreover I am not sure if I can change / rename an article or that I am allowed to do so. So I would really appreciate if you rename the article to Standing Committee on Finance (India). There are indeed quotes from the source, but I encapsulatd them with " to show that they were quotes, they were typed, not copied and pasted, at great effort" and the quotes were referenced per wiki requirements.

As I stated, I was quoting a will in which he mentioned the properties that he left to his heirs. I felt that was necessary to substantiate the claim that he was a man of means, as were the Ferrars.

You suggested a brief article on the Farrar family. Such an article can not be brief, as the history of the family is writ large over West Riding Yorkshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, London and other counties like Lincolnshire. And the origin of the family is quite curious and hard to prove (I am the project manager for a DNA surname project, annd the Farrars appear to have a very unique origin, not proveable, but deduced. And the origin of the name is occupational (Ferror), some of this can be referenced, some comes from work done in the 1950's, not published, but shared with family. It is quite interesting as it involves Edward IV, Richard III when Duke of Gloucester and 16 years of age, the War of the Roses, the Arrival of Edward IV, and the impregnation of the daughter of a supporter (Sir John Pilkington or Edmund Pilkington), and a gift of land in West Riding Yorkshire to a poor tenant, an archer in the levy of Sir John Pilkington. All very interesting, but all not sufficiently supported in the manner required by wiki. More of a book, not something that can be done briefly, nor would it fulfill the requirements legitimately demanded by wiki.

the best I can do then is create articles on two notable and significant members of the family, whose roles were, in their own way, instrumental for the establishment of a colony which grew into the United States of America, and the very beginnings of a representative form of government.. the House of Burgesses. As you can see Ido not have the ability to be brief. I have researched this family since 1962, and been nvolved in genetic genealogy since 2009.

Thank you. I disambiguatted them with their titles i.e. John Ferrar, Deputy Treasurer Virginia Company and John Ferrar the elder, Esquire John Ferrar the elder was not a settler. To my knowledge he never visited Virginia. What makes him notable is that he was a man of means, a London Merchant. I should eliminate the Lincolnshire from his who financed his son William Farrar (the settler), and was himself an investor in the Virginia Company. John Ferrar was granted the Coat of Arms mentioned in the article in 1609, he was also the owner of Westwood mentioned in the Visitation of Surrey. Besides his wealth he was notable in his own right as in 1609 he was given a coat of arms by Clarenceaux and subsequently mentioned in the Visitation of Surrey. But I doubt that there are articles on every person who was awarded a coat of Arms. However his wealth and his relationship to Nicholas and John Ferrar of the Virginia company, sufficed to subsidize and probably encourage his son William Farrar the settler, to undertake the adventure which in the words of Charles M. Gayley"these men an d their fellow patriots were already by the charters of 1609-1618, the founders of representative government in Virginia and by the Charter of 1620 of Representative Government in New England as well". In a word, the seed from which sprang the United States of America. Were it not for the two John Ferrars, cousins, there would not be a United States of America. Questions About Draft Articles[edit]

This is a personal questiion and thus, in my opinion, does not belong on the Teahouse. At your suggestion/request I have moved the major discussion to the Teahouse, however there are a few items I wish to clean up from your comments on my draft:John Farrar (Virginia Settler). You said "that it appears to be written in a nineteenth century style". In a previous response I answered thatconcern. I would like to know if that answer was acceptable I would not like to see it again if I resubmit the article. Essentially. because of my age, my background, my education I have a tendency to speak in what "moderns" might call archaic language. In the case of John Ferrar I quoted a source by encapsulating the quote with quotation marks, in addition I added a reference to that quote at the end of the article. I would like to know if this style is adequate and fufills wikipedia requirements? If not then how should I address the issue? In other words is it inappropriate or illegal to make partial quotes from a book or document. If there was something other than that quote that was written in a 19th century style could you point it out? Peeing contest here :) I am 79 years old, have 1 3/4 masters degrees. My style is also affected by my background, 26 years military, raised with a southern "drawl, "edumacted" partly above the Mason Dixon,partly below. Mostly self educated gratis the most excellent public libraries of Philadelphia, PA. First book I checked out at age 8 was the Odyssey, gobbled up all of Dickens, Stevenson, Cooper, Hugo, etc that I could lay my hands on. light reading were Escape Stories of WWII, heaviest were books like Five Chimneys (Auschwitz Birkenau). Robert McClenonYou are correct about the military style being terse, but one thing I have learned since retirement, is that one does not speak, act, or write to or for civilians as you do in the military. So one learns to be more expressive. When I was enlisted and a drill instructor I wrote lesson plans for recruits, that I seriously doubt would pass muster in a civilian setting, but I wrote them to form My last official act, before I retired in 1982Iwrote the plans and procedures, down to prepping and marshalling vehicles, for deployment through the Port of Tacoma Probably much modified , but I believe it was used to move Ft Lewis units to the Gulf in support of the 1st Gulf War.

DRN on Origin of the Romanians[edit]

Hi Robert,

in advance I write here because I don't want to give an ammunition to the tendentious editor to make km lenghty discussions. On your deduction there is one mistake, the case was never been in front of the ANI, only at AN3. You may update or change your argumentation accordingly.

In my opinion - as an editor who has always been near to the events, I have to tell, that this thread opened in the DRN is again just a decoy from the user - despite since months more of us tried to explain and make understand WP rules, guidelines and policies, but he simply does not willing to accept - because he is falsely thinking if a discussion is ongoing, it would legitimate him to make unilateral changes, reverts, deletes without consensus or community support (similary turning upside down the BRD principle). If you'd read the latest - last three - threads in the talk page - you may see more of us did not succeed to make him understand the rules. I am convinced he does it deliberately, since regardless of the nth time of explanation, he invent fallacious arguments in his own considered support (just see the neutrality section and his arguments, but also the "moderator" section).

This is unbearable, as you see an admin already did some steps, but I think if he would again continue his activity that is already disruption, really harsh sanctions has to be put in practise against him, since page protection, warnings, explanations, good faith does not matter, he always deducts that he is the "right one" and all the others are "bad". Boring and since weeks we cannot work properly on the article.

So I think, the next step would be the ANI, or in case and admin acts than this issue may end earlier. Therefore it is useless medcom, considering whaty you said "who edit disruptively, they will have to be sanctioned before dispute resolution can be worked". Also other editors became the conclusion the user is at already disruptive editing (reached 8th revert and mass deletion and altering so far as the page protection expired).

One more thing, as I noticed this during writing you ProgrammingGeek talktome, by mistake closed the RFC Two maps, instead of the discussion at the NPOV noticeboard, I already informed him about his mistake [2] since the majority voted the map an only it was discussed what text should be put under, but it is not the map itself. As we may see by the recent edits, finally everybody accepted the map, only the text was enlarged. If you do not think that mediation will work, then I would say that the next step should not be WP:ANI but Arbitration Enforcement. Arbitration Enforcement usually deals with disruptive editors more quickly and decisively, when Arbitration Enforcement is available, than WP:ANI, which usually results in lengthy heated exchanges and warnings. I was a little surprised, as I had thought it might not be sufficiently notable for a page, and decided to look at its history, to see whether it was a recent creation or a long-lived page. I noted that the primary editor was User:Monterege, which was very close to one of the cited sources on the page. Googling the source, I happened upon [URL https://www.newswire.com/files/6a/82/231a432bcf6b61df3f92b983d10a.pdf] which appears to state that J. T. Monterège was a creation of J. E. Tardy, who is the sole creator of the "Meca Sapiens" concept. This would appear to be a conflict of interest.

I figured I should inform you of this, as I trust an experienced editor such as yourself to handle any issues here in the appropriate manner. I'm long out of practice so my terminology and assessment of the issue may be far off the mark. That is entirely reasonable. This IP address is not particularly (at all?) anonymous, but then again I did some non-anonymous stuff with my old username. User:Logical2u. To clarify - since my 'retirement', Wikipedia is 90% a 'reading' thing for me, not a 'writing' thing. If I spot a typo or vandalism somewhere, I may correct it using whatever device and IP I have at the time (e.g., this current address, though I know I different address in the past). I have very little personal interest in integrating myself into the greater Wikipedia community at this time, nor to return to that username in any functional capacity (I'm not even sure I could, given how old the account is). Sara Ali Khan page[edit]

Hello,

A few sections above you recommended that I would have to wait a few weeks to get the Sara Ali Khan page reinstated, as her second film is coming out in a few weeks and Notability requirements state that an actor needs multiple films (i.e. more than one). But it appears a few admins have already decided that she is notable due to popularity and coverage, and have reinstated her page even though she only has one film. Do you agree with this? Speedy deletion of Tron (Cryptocurrency)[edit]

Hi Robert, I was hoping I could share some insight on why I submitted the draft of Tron (Cryptocurrency). I see that you've requested people coming here for speedy deletions use the button on the page to justify notability and how it's non-promotional, but the page has already been deleted so there's no button for me to do it there.

For notability, the Cryptocurreny (Tron) was once ranked in the top 10 by marketcap, was called out for having plagiarisms in their whitepaper, and for purchasing the P2P program Bittorrent.

After @MER-C: requested the previous Tron (Cryptocurrency) draft for salting, I recognized this to be an article that could exist if created fairly, so I began creating a draft. Unlike both of the previous article deletions, I had no COI, sources that met WP:RS by every standard and did not make a single statement without a strong source to back it up. MER-C gave me feedback here and suggested I talked to @David Gerard: about the new draft, since he was the admin who salted the article. I recommend you read our discussion here. After it was deleted and reverted for sourcing, and after the AfD discussion was created, you speedily deleted the article for Db-g4; but it doesn't violate section G4. Hi Richard

I have got to say I was slightly saddened by your rejection. I was just trying to get the framework correct. My intention was to give an insight into a typical gallery of the late 1960’s. Some of the information is already on the web (http://worldcat.org/identities/nc-zaydler%20gallery%20london%20england/) but the rest was based on an extensive archive I have. Primarily exhibition catalogues and newspaper cuttings. I had intended to create links to existing biographies and create new ones based on this information. There are so many prominent artists who are now deceased, have works in national collections, but are only mentioned fleetingly in Wiki articles. A prime example is Gomer Lewis. I have all this information and it is a shame it will be lost forever. I apologise for the rough nature of my article. As an ex software it should have been better.

I recall that I asked you for an example. I honestly had no idea what you meant, you never responded. One cannot correct something if they have no idea what it is that needs correcting. Then Jytdog jumped in claiming that I was behaving badly for questioning you.

That Sentence The sentence "The honesty and diligence of John Ferrar saved the enterprise" was not copied and was in my voice. I honestly do not see anything wrong with it, but if you say it is Nineteenth Century Style I can eliminate it, and I do understand that it uses superlatives that has no business in WP (I see that now, not then). There is a long quote from the Fortnightly Magazine that Earwig caught as a copyvio. That creates a problem for me. I understand from previous conversations wtih either you or other editors that limited use of quoted material was acceptable, so long as it was identified as such and I did First I mentioned the Source: "The Following is quoted from the Fortnightly Magazine", then I encapsulated the quote in apostrophe's, then I put it in {{ quotes. Then I provided a citation to the quote. Despite that the article is beieng rejected for copyvio. I have brought this to the attention of K.e.coffman I hope that I am not perceived as being argumentative or disrespctful. I am honestly at wits end in trying to understand some policies. I am getting a handle on some things. Please explain and help. Third, some of your articles have contained too much quoting, and that is a matter of judgment. If your contribution was rejected for copyvio, and you do not think that it was copyvio, you can appeal. I never said that it was copyvio, but I did have difficulty in telling what you were quoting and what you were copying. Please do not blame or scold me, and be aware that you are coming across as being very petulant. Fourth, you did complain that one of your contributions was rejected as Contrary to the Purpose of Wikipedia. I cannot find that rejection. Please direct me to where it is. @Robert McClenon: Thanks for the response. The first problem about inappropriate superlatives was recognized and corrected long ago. What I did not understand, until recently when I saw an explanation on the history of Draft:John_Ferrar_(Deputy_Treasurer,_Virginia_Company) Was why my language was considered 19th Century (that comment is still there on the article page and should be removed. I won't do it, out of respect. I don't believe in reverting edits either, I will discuss the edit with the editor, but won't play the revert game. Jytdog did in fact accuse me of behaving badly. I can't find it now, but I am many things but not a liar or fabricator, but it is obvious that you knew it was him, as I never mentioned his name. He was only blocked for 24 hours and bid farewell after the block. I am pretty sure he lurks still. Not the thpe to just pick up the marbles and go away. I am not petulant at being rejected, I am too old for that and my expiration date is six months past. What bothers me is when I ask Why, not only rejection but critique of my language and am met with crickets. Draft:Ash Nom DePlume - a question of suitability for Wikipedia.[edit]

Thank you for your feedback. Maybe I am approaching this incorrectly. This is my first attempt to contribute to Wikipedia,

Concerning your comments which based on the standards appear to be valid objections. I am not sure that I could make the argument that pen name of Ash Nom DePlume this will make the sales or notable figure criteria. With only a few reviews and not appearing on a best sellers listing sales, are not going to qualify. I am unaware of any universities using his works in classes, or being widely quoted, literary awards and such.


I read a hard copy copyright filing copy of the Psionicist Guild and found the concept of a fictional text book interesting and possibly unique, not to mention standing the test of time on a couple of predictions. Later I gained access some other works as the author and I share a common friend, though I can't say I know him. Which reminds me I should post my reviews of the three books I fully read.

Ash does keep developing what as near as I can determine "First in Literature" items, approaches, or plot devices. Since, I cannot find any references of the prophetic historical fiction, or a text book from the future as a historical fiction done before. This was noteworthy but wasn't enough to get me to try this years ago. Then recently I saw that Ash wrote another book with a Literary First about the alcoholic treatment called the Sinclair Method. In regard to both of these items I cannot find any record of them being done before Ash's work. It seems I keep catching a largely unknown author on the way up, or a piece of history as these appear to be literary first.

Based on the Wikipedia sales and notable works criteria as I understand them, I don't think this author has satisfied those criteria, but they are interesting stories, and seem to be on the cutting edge of history for originality.

I do think, the status of two literary first is deserving of being historically notable and thereby deserving of consideration which is what got me thinking that there should be a Wikipedia entry for Ash Nom DePlume. Which why I am trying this as my first submission. I had considered putting an entry for the books, but when I read the rules, it seemed too close to advertising, which is not what Wikipedia is about, and not the point of my postings.

Is there a category for consideration under literary first?

User:Wenhang Wang - First, I do not think that the literary techniques that you speak of are so unusual as to be notable. I think that fictional text books, either in the past or in the future, are not an uncommon device. The techniques of historical fiction, set in the future, have been used many times, such as in the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. Maybe the particular way that these devices have been used is new. Second, it appears that you are acknowledging that the works of Ash Nom de Plume are sufficiently poorly known as to not be notable, but that is only my thought. Third, I would suggest that your draft also needs a copy-edit for grammar and usage. Fourth, I suggest that you ask for the opinions of other editors at the Teahouse.
