Disambiguation link notification for January 5[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Andre Dickens, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Axios. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Omar Nuño moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Omar Nuño, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. A tag has been placed on Category:Santa Rosa Bear Cubs men's soccer players indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Ways to improve 2022 Liberty Flames baseball team[edit]

Hello, Rylesbourne,

Thank you for creating 2022 Liberty Flames baseball team.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article is mising prose, which means it fails notability for sports teams. Team season articles should consist mainly of well-sourced prose, not just statistics and lists of players. Wikipedia is not a stats directory. See WP:NSEASONS for guidance. Failing this notabilty guide, this article may be redirected to the main team page.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:58, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve 2022 Flower City Union season[edit]

Hello, Rylesbourne,

Thank you for creating 2022 Flower City Union season.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article needs more references in order to provide significant coverage for this article. See WP:SIGCOV
References that have scores, lists, order of merit and video do not pass as reliable sources for WP:NSPORT. (There have been changes to the notability guide for sports - you may wish to read WP:NSPORT ) To meet notability requirements, several references with significant coverage will suffice. Thank you.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Ways to improve Isaac Espinal[edit]

Hello, Rylesbourne,

Thank you for creating Isaac Espinal.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

What is needed are references from significant coverage about this player, and not their own words; in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. Lists, Team rosters, pages listing matches and results, databases, Instagram, Facebook, none of these are reliable sources. (There have been changes to the notability guide for sports - see WP:NSPORT ) You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally giving more information about this player, that meet these criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that this article is not suitable for inclusion.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Little America[edit]

Please note that disambiguation pages like Little America are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, they have guidelines that are different from articles. From the Wikipedia:Disambiguation dos and don'ts you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry that mentions the title being disambiguated
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references - Wikipedia is not a business directory

Hey Rylesbourne,

I'd suggest you be a bit slower on creating these individual team articles, and make sure there's good sources in them, not just roster lists. Without this information, they are likely to be draftified and/or deleted. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. An article you recently created, 2022–23 FC Viktoria Plzeň season, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. 2022 College Cup[edit]

Who is the final authority on a teams W–L–T record when it comes to the 2022 College Cup?

It looks like NCAA and Syracuse consider it a win/loss (listing Syracuse as 19–2–4, IU is 13–5–6 (also discounting a D-III win against Trine)). While TopDrawer and Indiana consider it a tie (Syracuse is 18–2–5, IU is 14–4–7). Then the USocCoaches show it as a win for Syracuse and tie for IU! Who is right (or is there some nuance I'm missing)? Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:45, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think I solved my confusion. This article says that tied post season games will use a shootout to determine a "winner", which I interpretted as a W for one team and an L for the other. But it appears to only be a W for the shootout winner, and a T for the other team. Apologies for taking up any of your time. Hoof Hearted (talk) 19:05, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Duncan McGuire (soccer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

hasn't played a single professional game yet. Not even signed with a professional club, with fairly minimal coverage pre and post MLS SuperDraft

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jake Mecham moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jake Mecham, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) WP:NFOOTY is no longer a valid SNG, so GNG must be met. It needs several refs from independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those. Please remember that routine sports coverage does not satisfy GNG, and that interviews, being primary sources, do not go to notability either. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Glad to have you here and I'm happy that you're editing. Are you still having trouble understanding policies here? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:38, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf: - Hi Justin, I'm still getting my bearings straight around the website. I've picked up some policies, but every day (even a year and a half later), I'm still discovering policies, and rules, essays, guidelines, etc. Rylesbourne (talk) 20:57, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there's anything I can do for you, let me know. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 21:08, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Thanks! I appreciate that! If anything, sometimes I feel confused as to where to begin with GNG articles and what is considered GNG especially based on what a major WikiProject says. Rylesbourne (talk) 01:32, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I'd recommend starting with a topic that you know about and care about and go from there. For instance, I have a decent feel for what are reliable sources for albums and if I can find two professional reviews or at least one review and it charts in at least one market, I personally consider that notable and justifiable to create as an article. That's just me, but it's generally served me well. Is there a particular topic that interests you? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 01:42, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Thanks! I think for me, my main interests lie in collegiate sports, soocer/association football, and music. Music gets tricky for me, because sometimes it seems like primary sources are necessary, because it establishes legitimacy that a band is signed to a major label or that an album/EP/compilation is released on that said label, but I sometimes feel like it can get ambigious as to what critic websites would be considered reliable or a valuable secondary source. I feel like websites such as Spin, Pitchfork, Paste, DIY, Kerrang, Rolling Stone, etc. suffice, but at other times, I feel like there is in-depth coverage on a website that has professional music critics that may not be a notable website, or it is not necessarily clear if that website is in fact professional. Also, I feel like most music singles/songs are not notable, however, I think most are notable enough search terms to redirect to the album, however, I don't want to get into a habit of just littering the wiki with such redirects.
@Koavf: Building off of this, one example is the new Geese band album, 3D Country. I know genres can be a bit unnecessary and subjective based on one's listening, but I am at a sense of uncertainty if I accurately sourced genres. From looking through reviews of the album, I found that reviews described the album's music at large as a mix of alternative country, jam band music, and blues rock. There were some reviews that described a few songs as psychedelic rock and indie rock, but I did not include them because it felt like they were largely indicative of a specific song or two and not the entire album. While I sourced all three aformentioned genres, I'm unsure if my alt-country citation is an adequate source, because I'm unsure if Acute Pop has the same reverence as, say, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Financial Times. That said, I don't want to gatekeep, but it's difficult to necessary come to a conclusion and say this source is adequate enough or proper enough to say it's a good source.
I'll stick with music for now, but I certainly sometimes get my head twisted up into thinking when something with sports can or cannot be notable, or there is not necessarily a clear consensus. Rylesbourne (talk) 01:48, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your intuition is good: warring about genres is common and just a part of life. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 01:57, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well in that case, I'll probably just avoid genres unless there is a pretty broad consensus. Last thing I want is Wikipedia to turn into the RateMyMusic/Album of the Year flame wars over genres! Lol. Rylesbourne (talk) 02:00, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Inter Miami CF into Draft:Miami Clásico. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 13:49, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

July 2023[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into St. Louis City SC 2. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. redirect to a topic that merely mentions this page

Nomination of 2023 Ojai earthquake for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article 2023 Ojai earthquake is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2023 Ojai earthquake until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.

As a personal note, I just wanted to say I did not personally nominate this page for deletion because of my proposed RfD on it when it was a redirect, which technically converted the redirect into an article, I was notified about this being nominated for AfD instead of you. I wanted to let you know so you had the chance to discuss. I don't personally have a ton of knowledge on WP:NEARTHQUAKE (which is an essay, but one referenced often at that) or things specifically related to earthquakes' notability, so I feel uncomfortable personally participating in the AfD, but I wanted to let you know because I know you created the redirect and you should be able to participate at the AfD. Have a great rest of your day! TartarTorte 13:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Links to other-language wikipedia articles[edit]

hHi Rylesbourne,

Regarding your edits such as [1] and [2]... for the past few years, links among articles in different languages are typically handled by Wikidata, rather than on each page itself. See Help:Interlanguage links for details. While there are times it does not work, it's rare, and should be explained clearly in the edit summary. I easily converted the Providence link to use Wikidata. Please let me know if you have any questions or need help switching to this new method. DMacks (talk) 06:15, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DMacks: thank you! I'll try that going forward. If the Wikidata is locked, what should I do? Rylesbourne (talk) 06:44, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen a locked Wikidata entry, but if you find any, I assume you can ask at Wikidata Project chat. DMacks (talk) 08:25, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Flocc:Rǣcanbyrig þāra Geāndena Rīca American requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
